Abstract

The present invention discloses devices and methods of communication. The method comprises that: a terminal device may determine, based on a first prediction, that an entering condition of an event for a handover is to be fulfilled at a first time instance; if a set of predictions for the event later than the first prediction fulfills a first condition, the terminal device may transmit first information of the handover to a network device. In this way, an unnecessary handover information reporting may be avoided, and accuracy of handover information reporting may be improved.

[0050] As shown in FIG. 1, the terminal device 110 and each of the network devices 120 and 130 may communicate with each other via Uu interface. The network device 120 and the network device 130 may communication with each other via Xn interface. The communications in the communication network 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, global system for mobile communications (GSM) , long term evolution (LTE) , LTE-evolution, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , new radio (NR) , wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) , code division multiple access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE radio access network (GERAN) , machine type communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0051] FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram 200 of an AI / ML common framework in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 2, training data, monitoring data and inference data may be obtained through an entity of data collection 210.

[0052] With reference to FIG. 2, the training data may be used for model training by an entity of model training 220. An AI / ML model may be trained or updated through the model training. The trained or updated AI / ML model may be stored by an entity of model storage 230.

[0053] With reference to FIG. 2, the monitoring data may be used for model management by an entity of model management 240. The entity of model management 240 may send performance feedback or retraining request to the entity of model training 220 for model retraining. The entity of model management 240 may send model transfer or delivery request to the entity of model storage 230, and the entity of model storage 230 may transfer or delivery the stored AI model to an entity of model inference 250.

[0054] As shown in FIG. 2, the inference data may be used for model inference by the entity of model inference 250. With the inference data as an input of the AI / ML model, an output data set may be obtained by the model inference. The entity of model inference 250 may provide a monitoring output to the entity of model management 240 and receive an indication of model selection / activation / deactivation / switching / fallback from the entity of model management 240.

[0055] So far, life cycle management (LCM) of an AI / ML model is described with reference to FIG. 2. It is to be understood that although the entities 210 to 250 are shown or described as separate entities in FIG. 2, these entities 210-250 may be implemented in one or more physical entities.

[0056] Traditionally, a handover is a reactive approach, i.e., a terminal device may trigger a measurement report based on real-time signal condition, and a network (NW) may respond to the terminal device for handover based on the measurement report considering latency and signal condition change. With an AI AI / ML model, a radio resource management (RRM) measurement and / or handover event may be predicted to enhance handover performance. In this case, a proactive approach may be introduced. That is, the terminal device may predict when the handover event is fulfilled and report to NW in advance, so that let NW have enough time to make a better decision.

[0057] The AI / ML model inference plays an important role for handover improvement. However, it is still incomplete how to use an AI / ML model inference result, e.g., how to use the AI / ML model inference result to initiate a measurement report, how to avoid unnecessary handover or signaling overhead caused by the AI / ML model inference result, and some other timer consideration.

[0058] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions of AI-based mobility management so as to overcome the above and other potential issues. For illustration, the solutions will be detailed below with reference to FIGs. 3 to 5.

[0059] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF UTILIZATION OF SUBSEQUENT PREDICTIONS

[0060] FIG. 3 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating an example process 300 of communication for AI-based mobility management in accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 300 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the steps and the  order of the steps in FIG. 3 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. For example, the order of the steps may be changed. Some of the steps may be omitted or any other suitable additional steps may be added. It is assumed that an AI model is deployed at the terminal device 110. The network device 120 provides a serving cell for the terminal device 110, and the network device 130 provides a target cell for the terminal device 110.

[0061] As shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 may determine 310, based on a prediction (for convenience, also referred to as a first prediction herein) , that an entering condition of an event for a handover is to be fulfilled at a time instance (for convenience, also referred to as a first time instance herein) . In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may derive one or multiple predictions within one model inference. As a result, a prediction (i.e., the first prediction) may indicate that the entering condition of the event for the handover is to be fulfilled at the first time instance.

[0062] With reference to FIG. 3, upon determination that the entering condition of the event for the handover is to be fulfilled at the first time instance, the terminal device 110 may determine 320 whether a set of predictions for the event later than the first prediction fulfills a condition (for convenience, also referred to as a first condition herein) for handover information transmission. In some embodiments, the set of predictions is within a time period later than the first prediction.

[0063] In some embodiments, the first condition may comprise no prediction in the set of predictions indicates that a second condition is fulfilled. In some embodiments, the second condition may comprise a leaving condition of the event is to be fulfilled at a time instance (for convenience, also referred to as a second time instance herein) . In some embodiments, the second condition may comprise a predicted result of a serving cell is better than a threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a first threshold herein) . In some embodiments, the second condition may comprise a predicted result of a target cell for the handover is lower than a threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a second threshold herein) .

[0064] In other words, if no prediction indicates the second condition is fulfilled in a time period after the entering condition is fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may determine that the first condition is fulfilled.

[0065] In some embodiments, the first condition may comprise predictions in the set of predictions indicate that the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at the first time  instance. In other words, if each prediction in the set of predictions within a time period after the entering condition is fulfilled indicates the entering condition is to be fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may determine that the first condition is fulfilled.

[0066] In some embodiments, the first condition may comprise a last prediction in the set of predictions indicates that the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at the first time instance. In other words, if the last prediction within a time period after the entering condition is fulfilled indicates the entering condition is to be fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may determine that the first condition is fulfilled.

[0067] In some embodiments, the first prediction and the set of predictions may be in a model inference (for convenience, also referred to as a first model inference herein) . FIG. 4A illustrates a schematic diagram 400A of predictions in one model inference in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 4A, signal quality of a serving cell becomes worse first and then becomes better, and signal quality of a neighboring cell becomes better first and then becomes worse.

[0068] As shown in FIG. 4A, by using real measurement results in an observation window 410 as a model input, predicted results in a prediction window 411 may be obtained as a model output. One prediction window corresponds to one model inference. As shown in FIG. 4A, it may be predicted that the entering condition is to be fulfilled at a time instance T1. This prediction may correspond to the first prediction in the prediction window 411. As shown in FIG. 4A, it may also be predicted that the leaving condition of the event is to be fulfilled at a time instance T2. This prediction may correspond to a subsequent prediction in the prediction window 411.

[0069] In some embodiments, the first prediction and the set of predictions may be in different model inferences. In some embodiments, the first prediction is in the first model inference, and the set of predictions is in a set of model inferences later than the first model inference and earlier than a time offset before the first time instance. In some embodiments, the time offset may be optional (e.g., the time offset is equal to zero) .

[0070] FIG. 4B illustrates a schematic diagram 400B of predictions in multiple model inferences in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 4B, the terminal device 110 may perform a model inference based on a model inference periodicity. A model inference (e.g., Inference 1 in a scenario 420 of FIG. 4B or Inference 4 in a scenario 421 of FIG. 4B) predicts that the entering condition is to be  fulfilled at a time instance T3. If there are still multiple available model inferences before the time instance T3, the terminal device 110 may continue to evaluate multiple model inferences for configured number of times or until the last model inference before a time offset to the time instance T3, whichever is earlier. In this example, the configured number of times is 2.

[0071] As shown in FIG. 4B, in the scenario 420, there are 3 available model inferences before a time offset to the time instance T3, and the configured number of times is 2. In this case, the terminal device 110 may continue to evaluate the event in inference 2 and inference 3 after the inference 1.

[0072] In the scenario 421, there are 1 available model inferences before a time offset to the time instance T3, and the configured number of times is 2. In this case, the terminal device 110 may continue to evaluate the event in inference 5 after the inference 4.

[0073] In other words, once the AI / ML model predicts that the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled in the future, multiple model inferences (if available) may be required before a handover information transmission (e.g., measurement report (MR) initiation) .

[0074] With reference to FIG. 3, if the first condition is fulfilled (i.e., the set of predictions fulfills the first condition) , the terminal device 110 may transmit 330 information (for convenience, also referred to as first information herein) of the handover to the network device 120. For example, the terminal device 110 may initiate an MR to carry the information of the handover.

[0075] In some embodiments, the first information may indicate that the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at the first time instance. In some embodiments, the first information may indicate that the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at the first time instance and a leaving condition of the event is to be fulfilled at a second time instance.

[0076] In some embodiments, once the AI / ML model predicts that the entering condition is to be fulfilled in the future, the terminal device 110 may initiate an MR only if the second condition does not occur after the entering condition is fulfilled within one model inference (i.e., within a prediction window) . In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may initiate the MR only if the last prediction within the model inference indicates that the entering condition is to be fulfilled. In this way, unnecessary transmission of handover  information may be avoided even though an entering condition of an event for handover is fulfilled.

[0077] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0078] 1> Based on AI / ML model inference, if the entry condition applicable for this event, i.e. the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfig, will be fulfilled for one or more applicable cells for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfig, while the VarMeasReportList does not include a measurement reporting entry for this measId (afirst cell triggers the event) , or

[0079] 1> Based on AI / ML model inference, if the entry condition applicable for this event, i.e. the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfig, will be fulfilled for one or more applicable cells not included in the cellsTriggeredList for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfig (asubsequent cell triggers the event) :

[0080] 2> based on AI / ML model inference, if there is no subsequent prediction that leaving condition application for this event will be fulfilled after event fulfilled within this prediction, or

[0081] 2> if the subsequent predicted measurement result of serving cell is not better than a threshold, or

[0082] 2> if the subsequent predicted measurement result of neighbor cell is not below than a threshold:

[0083] 3> include a measurement reporting entry within the VarMeasReportList for this measId (if this is a first cell triggers the event) ;

[0084] 3> include the concerned cell (s) in the cellsTriggeredList defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId;

[0085] 3> set the numberOfReportsSent defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId to 0;

[0086] 3> if useT312 is set to true in reportConfig for this event:

[0087] 4> if T310 for the corresponding SpCell is running; and

[0088] 4> if T312 is not running for corresponding SpCell:

[0089] 5> start timer T312 for the corresponding SpCell with the value of T312 configured in the corresponding measObjectNR;

[0090] 3> initiate a measurement reporting procedure.

[0091] In this example procedure, an information element (IE) ‘eventId’ denotes an event identity (ID) , an IE ‘reportConfig’ denotes a measurement report configuration, an IE ‘VarMeasConfig’ denotes a UE variable measurement configuration, an IE ‘timeToTrigger’ denotes a time to trigger, an IE ‘VarMeasReportList’ denotes a list of UE variable measurement report information, an IE ‘measId’ denotes a measurement ID, an IE ‘cellsTriggeredList’ denotes a list of triggered cells, an IE ‘numberOfReportsSent’ denotes number of sent reports, and an IE ‘measObjectNR’ denotes a measurement object.

[0092] In some embodiments, once the AI / ML model predicts that the entering condition is to be fulfilled in the future, the terminal device 110 may initiate MR only if all of the subsequent set of predictions indicate that the entering condition is to be fulfilled in the first time instance. The MR may be initiated after the last model inference. In this way, accuracy of initiating handover information transmission may be improved.

[0093] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0094] 1> Based on AI / ML model inference, if the entry condition applicable for this event, i.e. the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfig, will be fulfilled at T_event_fulfilling (atime point or a duration / window) for one or more applicable cells for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfig, while the VarMeasReportList does not include a measurement reporting entry for this measId (afirst cell triggers the event) , or

[0095] 1> Based on AI / ML model inference, if the entry condition applicable for this event, i.e. the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfig, will be fulfilled at T_event_fulfilling (atime point or a duration / window for one or more applicable cells not included in the cellsTriggeredList for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfig (asubsequent cell triggers the event) :

[0096] 2> based on AI / ML model inference periodicity configuration, if there is available inference before T_event_fulfilling (-offset) :

[0097] 3> continue to perform model inference for N times (if configured) or until the last inference before T_event_fulfilling (-offset) , whichever is earlier.

[0098] 3> if all inferences predict that the corresponding event is still fulfilled:

[0099] 4> include a measurement reporting entry within the VarMeasReportList for this measId (if this is a first cell triggers the event) ;

[0100] 4> include the concerned cell (s) in the cellsTriggeredList defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId;

[0101] 4> set the numberOfReportsSent defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId to 0;

[0102] 4> if useT312 is set to true in reportConfig for this event:

[0103] 5> if T310 for the corresponding SpCell is running; and

[0104] 5> if T312 is not running for corresponding SpCell:

[0105] 6> start timer T312 for the corresponding SpCell with the value of T312 configured in the corresponding measObjectNR;

[0106] 4> initiate a measurement reporting procedure.

[0107] In this example procedure, an IE ‘eventId’ denotes an event ID, an IE ‘reportConfig’ denotes a measurement report configuration, an IE ‘VarMeasConfig’ denotes a UE variable measurement configuration, an IE ‘timeToTrigger’ denotes a time to trigger, an IE ‘VarMeasReportList’ denotes a list of UE variable measurement report information, an IE ‘measId’ denotes a measurement ID, an IE ‘cellsTriggeredList’ denotes a list of triggered cells, an IE ‘numberOfReportsSent’ denotes number of sent reports, and an IE ‘measObjectNR’ denotes a measurement object.

[0108] In some alternative embodiments, once the AI / ML model predicts that the entering condition is to be fulfilled in the future, the terminal device 110 may not perform any further predictions in a set of model inferences later than the first model inference and earlier than a time offset before the first time instance. In this way, no more evaluations  on the event may be performed before handover information transmission. Thus, overhead on model inference may be saved.

[0109] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, if the first information of the handover is transmitted and a timer (for convenience, also referred to as a first timer herein) for a radio resource control (RRC) reestablishment is running, the terminal device 110 may start 340 a further timer (for convenience, also referred to as a second timer herein) for a transmission of cell group failure information. For example, the first timer may be T310 and the second timer may be T312. It is to be understood that any other similar timers may also be feasible. In some embodiments, the cell group failure information may be a master cell group (MCG) failure information. In some embodiments, the cell group failure information may be a secondary cell group (SCG) failure information.

[0110] In some embodiments, once the terminal device 110 initiates a MR in advance based on the AI / ML model prediction, as long as T310 is running, the terminal device 110 may start T312 (if configured) at the moment when the terminal device 110 initiate the MR. In this way, a condition for starting T312 may be improved and robust of a handover procedure may be enhanced.

[0111] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0112] 1> Based on AI / ML model inference, if the entry condition applicable for this event, i.e. the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfig, will be fulfilled for one or more applicable cells for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfig, while the VarMeasReportList does not include a measurement reporting entry for this measId (afirst cell triggers the event) , or

[0113] 1> Based on AI / ML model inference, if the entry condition applicable for this event, i.e. the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfig, will be fulfilled for one or more applicable cells not included in the cellsTriggeredList for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfig (asubsequent cell triggers the event) :

[0114] 2> include a measurement reporting entry within the VarMeasReportList for this measId (if this is a first cell triggers the event) ;

[0115] 2> include the concerned cell (s) in the cellsTriggeredList defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId;

[0116] 2> set the numberOfReportsSent defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId to 0;

[0117] 2> initiate the measurement reporting procedure;

[0118] 1> once / when the AI based MR is initiated:

[0119] 2> if useT312 is set to true in reportConfig for this event:

[0120] 3> if T310 for the corresponding SpCell is running; and

[0121] 3> if T312 is not running for corresponding SpCell:

[0122] 4> start timer T312 for the corresponding SpCell with the value of T312 configured in the corresponding measObjectNR.

[0123] In this example procedure, an IE ‘eventId’ denotes an event ID, an IE ‘reportConfig’ denotes a measurement report configuration, an IE ‘VarMeasConfig’ denotes a UE variable measurement configuration, an IE ‘timeToTrigger’ denotes a time to trigger, an IE ‘VarMeasReportList’ denotes a list of UE variable measurement report information, an IE ‘measId’ denotes a measurement ID, an IE ‘cellsTriggeredList’ denotes a list of triggered cells, an IE ‘numberOfReportsSent’ denotes number of sent reports, and an IE ‘measObjectNR’ denotes a measurement object.

[0124] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, if the entering condition of the event is fulfilled at the first time instance based on a measured result (i.e., a real measurement result) , the terminal device 110 may determine 350 whether to transmit further information (for convenience, also referred to as second information herein) of the handover to the network device 120. In some embodiments, the second information may comprise the measured result (i.e., a real measurement result) .

[0125] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may not transmit the second information of the handover to the network device 120 within a time range with respect to the first time instance. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit the second information of the handover to the network device 120 outside the time range with respect to the first time instance.

[0126] FIG. 4C illustrates a schematic diagram 400C of a handover information transmission in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown  in FIG. 4C, an inference at a timing T4 predicts that an entering condition of an event for handover is to be fulfilled at a timing T6, and thus a MR transmission is initiated at a timing T5. When the entering condition of the event for handover is fulfilled at the timing T6 based on a real measurement, the terminal device 110 may not initiate a further MR transmission within a time range 430, and may initiate the further MR transmission outside of the time range 430. In other words, if the entering condition of the event is fulfilled based on the real measurement at the timing T6, and the terminal device 110 has already initiated MR transmission based on the AI / ML model inference corresponding to the same event before, and the current time point is located in the time range 430, the terminal device 110 may not be required to initiate the MR transmission again.

[0127] As shown in FIG. 3, in some embodiments where the entering condition of the event is fulfilled at the first time instance based on the measured result, if the timer (i.e., the first timer) for RRC reestablishment is running, the terminal device 110 may start 360, at the first time instance, the timer (i.e., the second timer) for the transmission of cell group failure information. With reference to FIG. 4C, even though the MR transmission is not initiated at the timing T6, the terminal device 110 may need to start T312 if T310 is running. If the terminal device 110 needs to initiate the second transmission, the terminal device 110 may also start T312 if T310 is running.

[0128] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, an indication (for convenience, also referred to as a first indication herein) of whether the second information of the handover is allowed to be transmitted upon determination that the entering condition of the event is fulfilled based on a measured result. If the indication indicates the second information of the handover is allowed to be transmitted upon determination that the entering condition of the event is fulfilled based on the measured result, the terminal device 110 may transmit the second information of the handover to the network device 120 when the entering condition of the event is fulfilled at the first time instance based on the measured result. If the first indication is not configured or set, the terminal device 110 may not be required to transmit the second information of the handover to the network device 120.

[0129] In some embodiments, if the entering condition of the event is fulfilled at the first time instance based on a measured result, and a periodical transmission of the first information is unfinished at the first time instance, the terminal device 110 may continue to finish the periodical transmission. For example, in the example of FIG. 4C, the MR  transmission initiated at the timing T5 may be an event-triggered periodical report. If the periodical report of the MR transmission is not finished in the time range 430 in FIG. 4C, the terminal device 110 may continue to finish the periodical transmission in the time range 430.

[0130] In this way, unnecessary MR transmission may be avoided, and signaling overhead may be saved without reduction of handover performance.

[0131] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0132] 1> if the entry condition applicable for this event, i.e. the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfig, is fulfilled for one or more applicable cells for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfig, while the VarMeasReportList does not include a measurement reporting entry for this measId (afirst cell triggers the event) , or 1> if the entry condition applicable for this event, i.e. the event corresponding with the eventId of the corresponding reportConfig within VarMeasConfig, is fulfilled for one or more applicable cells not included in the cellsTriggeredList for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined for this event within the VarMeasConfig (asubsequent cell triggers the event) :

[0133] 2> if the event-triggered periodical MR transmission has not finished yet, or

[0134] 3> continue periodical MR (including real measurement result) as legacy;

[0135] 2> if the MR has already been transmitted before and the current time point is inside of [T_event_fulfilling –offset, T_event_fulfilling + offset] , and

[0136] 3> if the indication_enable_send is not set to true:

[0137] 4> not initiate MR;

[0138] 4> if useT312 is set to true in reportConfig for this event:

[0139] 5> if T310 for the corresponding SpCell is running; and

[0140] 5> if T312 is not running for corresponding SpCell:

[0141] 6> start timer T312 for the corresponding SpCell with  the value of T312 configured in the corresponding measObjectNR;

[0142] 3> else if the indication_enable_send is set to true:

[0143] 4> Initiate MR (including real measurement result) as legacy;

[0144] 2> if the MR has already been transmitted before and the current time point is outside of [T_event_fulfilling –offset, T_event_fulfilling + offset] :

[0145] 3> Initiate MR (including real measurement result) .

[0146] In this example procedure, an IE ‘eventId’ denotes an event ID, an IE ‘reportConfig’ denotes a measurement report configuration, an IE ‘VarMeasConfig’ denotes a UE variable measurement configuration, an IE ‘timeToTrigger’ denotes a time to trigger, an IE ‘VarMeasReportList’ denotes a list of UE variable measurement report information, an IE ‘measId’ denotes a measurement ID, an IE ‘cellsTriggeredList’ denotes a list of triggered cells, an IE ‘numberOfReportsSent’ denotes number of sent reports, an IE ‘measObjectNR’ denotes a measurement object, an IE ‘T_event_fulfilling’ denotes a time point or range at which the entering condition of the event is fulfilled, and an IE ‘indication_enable_send’ denotes the first indication.

[0147] With the process 300, an unnecessary handover information reporting may be avoided, and accuracy of handover information reporting may be improved. It is to be understood that operations described above in connection with FIGs. 3 to 4C may be performed in any suitable combinations.

[0148] As a modification, embodiments of the present disclosure also provide a solution of handover information transmission. In the solution, the terminal device 110 may derive a plurality of predictions for an event of a handover in a model inference, and transmit, to the network device 120, information of the handover indicating the plurality of predictions. In other words, predicted results of the plurality of predictions within one model inference may be reported to NW in one time. For example, the plurality of predictions may comprise a first prediction indicating that an entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at a first time instance and a second prediction indicating that a leaving condition of the event is to be fulfilled at a second time instance. Then the information of the handover may indicate that the entering condition is to be fulfilled at the first time instance and the leaving condition is to be fulfilled at the second time instance. In this way, handover performance may be improved and a network decision may be facilitated.

[0149] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF CANCELLING OF HANDOVER

[0150] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of canceling a handover. The solution will be described in connection with FIG. 5.

[0151] FIG. 5 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating another example process 500 of communication in accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 500 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network devices 120 and 130 as illustrated in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 5 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. For example, the order of the steps may be changed. Some of the steps may be omitted or any other suitable additional steps may be added. It is assumed that one or more models are deployed at the terminal device 110. The terminal device 110 is served by the network device 120, and the network device 130 provides a target cell for the terminal device 110.

[0152] As shown in FIG. 5, the terminal device 110 may transmit 510, to the network device 120, information (for convenience, also referred to as third information herein) of a handover. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may have initiated an MR to carry the third information.

[0153] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may have initiated the MR upon determination that an entering condition of an event of the handover is fulfilled based on a real measurement result. In this case, the third information may indicate that an entering condition of an event of the handover is fulfilled.

[0154] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may have initiated the MR upon determination that the entering condition of the event of the handover is to be fulfilled based on a model inference. In this case, the third information may indicate that an entering condition of an event of the handover is to be fulfilled.

[0155] With reference to FIG. 5, if the third information is transmitted and no handover command is received, the terminal device 110 may determine 520 whether a condition (for convenience, also referred to as a third condition herein) for handover cancellation is fulfilled.

[0156] In some embodiments, the third condition may comprise that a leaving condition of an event for the handover is fulfilled based on a measured result. In some alternative or additional embodiments, the third condition may comprise that an entering condition of the  event for the handover is not fulfilled based on the measured result.

[0157] In some embodiments, the third condition may comprise that the leaving condition of the event is predicted to be fulfilled. In some alternative or additional embodiments, the third condition may comprise that the entering condition of the event for the handover is not predicted to be fulfilled.

[0158] In some embodiments, the third condition may comprise that a predicted result of a serving cell is better than a threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a third threshold herein) . In some embodiments, the third condition may comprise that a measured result (i.e., a real measurement result) of a serving cell is better than the third threshold.

[0159] In some embodiments, the third condition may comprise that a predicted result of a target cell for the handover is lower than or worse than a threshold (for convenience, also referred to as a fourth threshold herein) . In some embodiments, the third condition may comprise that a measured result (i.e., a real measurement result) of the target cell is lower than or worse than the fourth threshold.

[0160] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0161] Upon the transmission of MR based on AI / ML model inference / prediction, the UE shall:

[0162] 1> if the leaving condition applicable for this event is fulfilled (may or may not be based on AI / ML model inference) for one or more of the cells included in the cellsTriggeredList defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId for all measurements after layer 3 filtering taken during timeToTrigger defined within the VarMeasConfig for this event, or

[0163] 1> if the predicted / real measurement result of serving cell is better than a threshold, or

[0164] 1> if the predicted / real measurement result of neighbor cell is lower than a threshold:

[0165] 2> if RRCReconfiguration with sync (handover command) has not been received yet:

[0166] 3> inform lower layer (i.e., MAC / PHY) to immediately send handover cancel indication including the concerned cell and T_event_leaving to network; or

[0167] 3> initiate MR transmission with the concerned cell and predicted T_event_leaving.

[0168] In this example procedure, an IE ‘cellsTriggeredList’ denotes a list of triggered cells, an IE ‘VarMeasReportList’ denotes a list of UE variable measurement report information, an IE ‘timeToTrigger’ denotes a time to trigger, an IE ‘measId’ denotes a measurement ID, an IE ‘VarMeasConfig’ denotes a UE variable measurement configuration, and an IE ‘T_event_fulfilling’ denotes a time point or range at which the entering condition of the event is fulfilled.

[0169] Continuing to refer to FIG. 5, the terminal device 110 may transmit 520, to the network device 120, information (for convenience, also referred to as fourth information herein) indicating a cancel of the handover. In some embodiments, once the terminal device 110 has initiated the MR, if the leaving condition occurs before reception of the handover command, the terminal device 110 may perform some operations related to handover cancellation.

[0170] In some embodiments, the fourth information may comprise an indication of the cancel of the handover. In some embodiments, the fourth information may comprise information of a target cell for the handover. In some embodiments, the fourth information may comprise that the third condition is fulfilled at a time instance (for convenience, also referred to as a third time instance herein) . Alternatively, the fourth information may comprise that the entering condition is not to be fulfilled at the third time instance.

[0171] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit the fourth information via an L1 or L2 signaling, e.g., a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) . In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit the fourth information via a RRC signaling, e.g., by initiating an MR.

[0172] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may accumulate number of transmissions of the fourth information. If the number of transmissions of the fourth information is greater than a number threshold, the terminal device 110 may deactivate the AI / ML model. In this way, a management of the AI / ML model may be enhanced.

[0173] In some embodiments, if the fourth information is transmitted, the terminal device 110 may modify the observation window corresponding to the model input or the prediction window corresponding to the model output. In some embodiments, if the fourth  information is transmitted, the terminal device 110 may transmit, to the network device 120, a request for reconfiguring the observation window or prediction window. In some embodiments, upon reception of the request, the network device 120 may reconfigure the observation window or prediction window for the terminal device 110.

[0174] Continuing to refer to FIG. 5, upon reception of the fourth information indicating the cancel of the handover, the network device 120 may cancel 530 a preparation of the handover.

[0175] For illustration, an example procedure may be described as below.

[0176] A handover cancel procedure is used to enable a source NG-RAN node to cancel an ongoing handover preparation or an already prepared handover.

[0177] If the source NG-RAN node receives a handover cancel indication or MR related to handover cancel from UE, a source gNB initiate a handover cancel procedure, i.e., the source gNB send a HANDOVER CANCEL message to a target NG-RAN node.

[0178] With reference to FIG. 5, the network device 120 may transmit 540, to the network device 130 providing the target cell for the handover, a message for cancelling the handover. In this way, operations at an Xn interface may be enhanced for AI / ML based mobility.

[0179] With the process 500, a wrong handover may be avoided. It is to be understood that operations described above in connection with FIG. 5 may be performed in any suitable combinations.

[0180] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF AI / ML MODEL INFERENCE AFTER REAL MEASUREMENT

[0181] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of a handover information transmission. The solution will be described in connection with FIG. 6.

[0182] FIG. 6 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating another example process 600 of communication in accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 600 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 600 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 6 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. For example, the order of the steps may be changed. Some of the steps may be omitted or any other suitable additional steps may be added. It is assumed that one or more models are deployed at the network device 120.  The terminal device 110 is served by the network device 120.

[0183] As shown in FIG. 6, the terminal device 110 may determine 610 that an entering condition of an event for a handover is fulfilled based on a measured result (i.e., a real measurement result) . In this case, the terminal device 110 may not initiate a handover information transmission (e.g., an MR) immediately.

[0184] As shown in FIG. 6, upon determination that the entering condition is fulfilled based on the measured result, the terminal device 110 may perform 620 a prediction of the event. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform a model inference to predict or evaluate a leaving condition of the event.

[0185] With reference to FIG. 6, if the leaving condition of the event is not predicted to be fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may transmit 630, to the network device 120, information of the handover. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may initiate an MR comprising the information of the handover. For example, the information of the handover may indicate the entering condition is fulfilled based on the measured result.

[0186] Continuing to refer to FIG. 6, if the leaving condition of the event is predicted to be fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may cancel 640 a transmission of the information of the handover.

[0187] With the process 600, signaling overhead for handover information reporting may be saved without reduction of handover performance. It is to be understood that operations described above in connection with FIG. 6 may be performed in any suitable combinations.

[0188] It is also to be understood that operations or processes described above in connection with FIGs. 3 to 6 may be performed separately or in any suitable combination.

[0189] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF METHODS

[0190] Corresponding to the above process, embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods of communication implemented at a terminal device and a network device. These methods will be described below with reference to FIGs. 7 to 10.

[0191] FIG. 7 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 700 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 700 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 700 will be  described with reference to FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 700 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard. The terminal device 110 is served by a first network device (e.g., the network device 120) .

[0192] At block 710, the terminal device 110 may determine, based on a first prediction, that an entering condition of an event for a handover is to be fulfilled at a first time instance.

[0193] At block 720, the terminal device 110 may determine that a set of predictions for the event later than the first prediction fulfills a first condition.

[0194] In some embodiments, the first condition may comprise at least one of the following: predictions in the set of predictions indicate that the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at the first time instance; no prediction in the set of predictions indicates that a second condition is fulfilled; or a last prediction in the set of predictions indicates that the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at the first time instance.

[0195] In some embodiments, the second condition may comprise one of the following: a leaving condition of the event is to be fulfilled at a second time instance; a predicted result of a serving cell is better than a first threshold; or a predicted result of a target cell for the handover is lower than a second threshold.

[0196] At block 730, in accordance with a determination that the set of predictions fulfills the first condition, the terminal device 110 may transmit first information of the handover to the first network device.

[0197] In some embodiments, the first information may indicate one of the following: the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at the first time instance; or the entering condition of the event is to be fulfilled at the first time instance and a leaving condition of the event is to be fulfilled at a second time instance.

[0198] In some embodiments, the first prediction and the set of predictions may be in a first model inference. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform no prediction in a set of model inferences later than the first model inference and earlier than a time offset before the first time instance.

[0199] In some embodiments, the first prediction may be in a first model inference, and the set of predictions may be in a set of model inferences later than the first model inference  and earlier than a time offset before the first time instance.

[0200] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the entering condition of the event is fulfilled at the first time instance based on a measured result, the terminal device 110 may transmit, within a time range with respect to the first time instance, no second information of the handover to the first network device, and may transmit, outside the time range with respect to the first time instance, the second information of the handover to the first network device.

[0201] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that a first timer for a RRC reestablishment is running, the terminal device 110 may start, at the first time instance, a second timer for a transmission of cell group failure information.

[0202] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the first network device, a first indication that second information of the handover is allowed to be transmitted upon determination that the entering condition of the event is fulfilled based on a measured result. In accordance with a determination that the entering condition of the event is fulfilled at the first time instance based on the measured result, the terminal device 110 may transmit the second information of the handover to the first network device. In some embodiments, the second information may comprise the measured result.

[0203] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the entering condition of the event is fulfilled at the first time instance based on a measured result, and a periodical transmission of the first information is unfinished at the first time instance, the terminal device 110 may continue to finish the periodical transmission.

[0204] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the first information of the handover is transmitted and a first timer for a RRC reestablishment is running, the terminal device 110 may start a second timer for a transmission of cell group failure information.

[0205] With the method 700, an unnecessary handover information reporting may be avoided, and accuracy of handover information reporting may be improved.

[0206] FIG. 8 illustrates a flowchart of another example method 800 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 800 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 800 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 800 may include  additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard. The terminal device 110 is served by a first network device (e.g., the network device 120) .

[0207] At block 810, the terminal device 110 may determine that third information of a handover is transmitted and no handover command is received.

[0208] At block 820, the terminal device 110 may determine that a third condition is fulfilled. In some embodiments, the third condition may comprise one of the following: a leaving condition of an event for the handover is fulfilled based on a measured result; the leaving condition of the event is predicted to be fulfilled; a predicted or measured result of a serving cell is better than a third threshold; or a predicted or measured result of a target cell for the handover is lower than a fourth threshold.

[0209] At block 830, in accordance with a determination that the third condition is fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may transmit, to the first network device, fourth information indicating a cancel of the handover.

[0210] In some embodiments, the fourth information may comprise at least one of the following: an indication of the cancel of the handover; information of a target cell for the handover; or the third condition is fulfilled at a third time instance.

[0211] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that number of transmissions of the fourth information is greater than a number threshold, the terminal device 110 may deactivate a model.

[0212] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the fourth information is transmitted, the terminal device 110 may modify an observation window corresponding to a model input or a prediction window corresponding to a model output, or transmit, to the first network device, a request for reconfiguring the observation window or prediction window.

[0213] With the method 800, a handover cancel indication may be introduced and a wrong handover may be avoided.

[0214] FIG. 9 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 900 of communication implemented at a first network device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 900 may be performed at the network device 120 as shown in FIG. 1. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 900 will be  described with reference to FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 900 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard. The terminal device 110 is served by the first network device (e.g., the network device 120) .

[0215] At block 910, the network device 120 may receive, from a terminal device (e.g., the terminal device 110) , fourth information indicating a cancel of a handover.

[0216] In some embodiments, the fourth information may comprise at least one of the following: an indication of the cancel of the handover; information of a target cell for the handover; or the third condition is fulfilled at a third time instance.

[0217] In some embodiments, the first network device may further receive, from the terminal device, a request for reconfiguring the observation window or prediction window.

[0218] At block 920, the network device 120 may cancel a preparation of the handover.

[0219] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may further transmit, to a second network device (e.g., the network device 130) providing a target cell for the handover, a message for cancelling the handover.

[0220] With the method 900, signaling overhead for handover information reporting may be saved without reduction of handover performance.

[0221] FIG. 10 illustrates a flowchart of another example method 1000 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 1000 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 1000 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 1000 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard. The terminal device 110 is served by a first network device (e.g., the network device 120) .

[0222] At block 1010, the terminal device 110 may determine that an entering condition of an event for a handover is fulfilled based on a measured result.

[0223] At block 1020, in accordance with a determination that the entering condition is fulfilled based on the measured result, the terminal device 110 may perform a prediction of the event. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine whether a leaving condition of the event is predicted to be fulfilled. If no leaving condition of the  event is predicted to be fulfilled, the method 1000 may proceed to block 1030. If the leaving condition of the event is predicted to be fulfilled, the method 1000 may proceed to block 1040.

[0224] At block 1030, in accordance with a determination that no leaving condition of the event is predicted to be fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may transmit, to a first network device, information of the handover.

[0225] At block 1040, in accordance with a determination that the leaving condition of the event is predicted to be fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may cancel a transmission of the information of the handover.

[0226] With the method 1000, signaling overhead for handover information reporting may be saved without reduction of handover performance.

[0227] It is to be understood that operations of the methods 700, 800, 900 and 1000 correspond to that described in connection with FIGs. 3 to 6, and thus other details are not repeated here for conciseness.

[0231] The program 1130 is assumed to include program instructions that, when executed by the associated processor 1110, enable the device 1100 to operate in accordance with the embodiments of the present disclosure, as discussed herein with reference to FIGs. 1 to 10. The embodiments herein may be implemented by computer software executable by the processor 1110 of the device 1100, or by hardware, or by a combination of software and hardware. The processor 1110 may be configured to implement various embodiments of the present disclosure. Furthermore, a combination of the processor 1110 and memory 1120 may form processing means 1150 adapted to implement various embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0232] The memory 1120 may be of any type suitable to the local technical network and may be implemented using any suitable data storage technology, such as a non-transitory computer readable storage medium, semiconductor based memory devices, magnetic memory devices and systems, optical memory devices and systems, fixed memory and removable memory, as non-limiting examples. While only one memory 1120 is shown in the device 1100, there may be several physically distinct memory modules in the device 1100. The processor 1110 may be of any type suitable to the local technical network, and may include one or more of general purpose computers, special purpose computers, microprocessors, digital signal processors (DSPs) and processors based on multicore processor architecture, as non-limiting examples. The device 1100 may have multiple processors, such as an application specific integrated circuit chip that is slaved in time to a clock which synchronizes the main processor.

[0233] In some embodiments, a terminal device comprises a circuitry configured to: determine, based on a first prediction, that an entering condition of an event for a handover is to be fulfilled at a first time instance; and in accordance with a determination that a set of predictions for the event later than the first prediction fulfills a first condition, transmit first information of the handover to a first network device.

[0234] In some embodiments, a terminal device comprises a circuitry configured to: determine that third information of a handover is transmitted and no handover command is  received; and in accordance with a determination that a third condition is fulfilled, transmit, to a first network device, fourth information indicating a cancel of the handover.
