Description

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING BEAMS ASSOCIATED WITH ANTENNA ARRAY IN MOBILE COMMUNICATIONSCROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED PATENT APPLICATION (S)

[0001] The present disclosure is part of a non-provisional application claiming the priority benefit of India Application No. 202421055784, filed on 22 July 2024, the content of which herein being incorporated by reference in its entirety.TECHNICAL FIELD

[0002] The present disclosure is generally related to mobile communications and, more particularly, to determining beams associated with antenna array with respect to apparatus in mobile communications.BACKGROUND

[0003] Unless otherwise indicated herein, approaches described in this section are not prior art to the claims listed below and are not admitted as prior art by inclusion in this section.

[0004] In current New Radio (NR) mobile communications, a large antenna array is introduced. In particular, the large antenna array may refer to an arrangement including a plurality of antenna elements configured to form multiple directional beams, thereby enabling enhanced beamforming capability, increased spatial resolution, and improved signal quality for wireless communication systems across various deployment scenarios.

[0005] In various scenarios, different codebooks may be employed for a large antenna array. For example, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 19 Type I Spatial Precoding (SP) codebook may be utilized for large antenna array configurations. In particular, with respect to the Type I Single Panel (SP) codebook, some schemes (e.g., scheme Mode A as defined in 3GPP specification) may be used for rank 5 to rank 8 (while rank ‘x’ may indicate ‘x’ spatial data streams in Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmission) . Specifically, in these schemes, three polarization-common spatial domain (SD) beams may be selected for rank 5 and rank 6, while four polarization-common SD beams may be selected for rank 7 and rank 8.

[0006] However, these schemes may still suffer from inefficient beam selection due to a large search space and a lack of clear structure or constraints, especially for some network cases.

[0007] Accordingly, how to improve beam selection becomes an important issue in the newly developed wireless communication network. Therefore, there is a need to provide proper schemes to improve beam selection.SUMMARY

[0008] The following summary is illustrative only and is not intended to be limiting in any way. That is, the following summary is provided to introduce concepts, highlights, benefits and advantages of the novel and non-obvious techniques described herein. Select implementations are further described below in the detailed description. Thus, the following summary is not intended to identify essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended for use in determining the scope of the claimed subject matter.

[0009] An objective of the present disclosure is to propose solutions or schemes that address the aforementioned issues pertaining to determining beams associated with antenna array with respect to apparatus in mobile communications.

[0011] In one aspect, a method may involve an apparatus transmitting a configuration, indicating a codebook type for PMI selection, to a User Equipment (UE) for determining a main beam and a plurality of additional beams associated with the main beam based on the configuration. The plurality of additional beams may be determined from a plurality of selectable beams while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one dimension. The method may further involve the apparatus receiving PMI information including the main beam and the plurality of additional beams from the UE.

[0012] In one aspect, an apparatus may comprise a transceiver which, during operation, wirelessly communicates with a wireless network. The apparatus may also comprise a processor communicatively coupled to the transceiver. The processor, during operation, may perform operations comprising receiving, via the transceiver, a configuration from a network node. The configuration may indicate a codebook type for PMI selection. The processor may further perform operations comprising determining a main beam and a plurality of additional beams associated with the main beam based on the configuration. The plurality of additional beams may be determined from a plurality of selectable beams while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one dimension. The processor may further perform operations comprising transmitting, via the transceiver, PMI information including the main beam and the plurality of additional beams to the network node.

[0013] It is noteworthy that, although description provided herein may be in the context of certain radio access technologies, networks and network topologies such as Long-Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Advanced, LTE-Advanced Pro, 5th Generation (5G) , New Radio (NR) , Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) , Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) , and 6th Generation (6G) , the proposed concepts, schemes and any variation (s)  / derivative (s) thereof may be implemented in, for and by other types of radio access technologies, networks and network topologies. Thus, the scope of the present disclosure is not limited to the examples described herein.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0026] Detailed embodiments and implementations of the claimed subject matters are disclosed herein. However, it shall be understood that the disclosed embodiments and implementations are merely illustrative of the claimed subject matters which may be embodied in various forms. The present disclosure may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the exemplary embodiments and implementations set forth herein. Rather, these exemplary embodiments and implementations are provided so that description of the present disclosure is thorough and complete and will fully convey the scope of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art. In the description below, details of well-known features and techniques may be omitted to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the presented embodiments and implementations. Overview

[0027] Implementations in accordance with the present disclosure relate to various techniques, methods, schemes and / or solutions pertaining to determining beams associated with antenna array with respect to apparatus in mobile communications. According to the present disclosure, a number of possible solutions may be implemented separately or jointly. That is, although these possible solutions may be described below separately, two or more of these possible solutions may be implemented in one combination or another.

[0028] Regarding the present disclosure, a network node may transmit a configuration to a User Equipment (UE) . The configuration may indicate a codebook type for Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI) selection. After receiving the configuration, the UE may determine a main beam and a plurality of additional beams associated with the main beam. The main beam may be freely determined or determined according to the network environment (e.g., channel state) . Based on the configuration, the plurality of additional beams may be determined from a plurality of selectable beams while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one dimension (e.g., vertical or horizontal) . Then, the UE may report PMI information including the determined beams (e.g., the main beam and the additional beams) to the network node.

[0029] Accordingly, the process of beam determination (i.e., selecting the main beam and the additional beams from the beam map) may be significantly improved in terms of computational efficiency, reduced search complexity, and lower feedback overhead, thereby enhancing the overall performance of beam management.

[0030] FIG. 1 illustrates an example scenario 100 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. Scenario 100 involves a network side and one or more UEs, which may be a part of a wireless communication network (e.g., an LTE network, a 5G / NR network, an IoT network or a 6G network) . Scenario 100 illustrates the current network framework. The UEs may connect to the network side. The network side may comprise one or more than one network nodes. For illustrative purposes, one network node and one UE may be described hereinafter. However, it is not intended to limit the network scenarios of the present disclosure.

[0031] In some scenarios, different codebooks may be employed for an antenna array (e.g., a large antenna array) . For example, in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 19, there is a Type I Single Panel (SP) codebook used for the antenna array, and two schemes are agreed for the Type I SP codebook. In the two schemes, for rank 5 to rank 8 (while rank ‘x’ may indicates ‘x’ spatial data streams in Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmission) , three beams (e.g., three polarization-common spatial domain (SD) beams) are selected for rank 5 and rank 6, while four beams (e.g., four polarization-common SD beams) are selected for rank 7 and rank 8. More specifically, in one (e.g., scheme A) of the two schemes, a main beam is first selected, and remaining beams (i.e., two remaining beams for rank 5 or rank 6 and three remaining beams for rank 7 and rank 8) are selected while the remaining beams are orthogonal to the main beam in at least one of horizontal and vertical dimensions.

[0032] FIG. 2 illustrates an example scenario 200 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, in 3GPP Release 19 Type I SP codebook scheme A (i.e., higher layer parameter “typeI-codebookMode-r19” set to “modeA” ) for rank 5 to rank 8 transmissions, a beam map may be derived (e.g., pre-defined or configured) based on parameters N1, N2, O1 and O2. N1 may represent the number of antennas of an antenna array in horizontal direction. N2 may represent the number of antennas of the antenna array in vertical direction. O1 may represent a Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) oversampling factor associated with N1. O2 may represent a DFT oversampling factor associated with N2.

[0033] More specifically, the size of the beam map may be N2O2 by N1O1. The beam map may include N1N2O1O2 elements, and each element of the beam map may represent a beam (i.e., a DFT beam, which is a beamforming vector generated using DFT) . The beam map may consist of N1N2 beam groups. Each beam group may include O1O2 beams (i.e., DFT beams) . For illustrative purposes, the beam map with N1=4, N2=3, O1=4 and O2=4 may be depicted in FIG. 2. However, it is not intended to limit the beam map of the present disclosure.

[0034] In these embodiments, the UE may receive a configuration (e.g., configuration with a higher layer parameter “typeI-codebookMode-r19” set to “modeA” ) indicating a codebook type for Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI) selection. Then, after receiving signal (s) (e.g., Channel State Information-Reference Signals (CSI-RSs) ) used for channel estimation, the UE may freely select a main beam b1 in a beam map. The UE may determine a plurality of selectable beams associated with the main beam within a beam selection range, while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one of horizontal dimension and vertical dimension. In other words, a beam, (1) being orthogonal to the main beam in horizontal dimension or vertical dimension and (2) within the beam selection range (shown as a dashed-line area in FIG. 2) may be determined as one selectable beam. Then, the UE may select additional beams from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and transmit (report) the main beam and the additional beams to the network node. For illustrative purposes, the beam selection range is depicted in a specific area in FIG. 2. However, it is not intended to limit the implementations of the beam selection range of the present disclosure.

[0035] More specifically, for rank 5 or rank 6, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl,m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select two additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′and vl″, m″) defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and report three selected beams (i.e., the main beam and two additional beams) to the network node. For rank 7 or rank 8, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl, m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select three additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′, vl″, m″ and vl″′, m″′ defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam range and report four selected beams (i.e., the main beam and three additional beams) to the network node. In these embodiments, the beam-to-layer mapping and inter-polarization co-phasing rules follow those defined for rank 5 to rank 8 in the 3GPP Type I SP codebook.

[0036] FIG. 3 illustrates an example scenario 300 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. For example, a beam map is derived (e.g., pre-defined or configured) based on parameters N1=4, N2=3, O1=4 and O2=4. The beam map consists of a plurality of beam groups with the number of N1N2. Each beam group has size O1 by O2 and consists of a plurality of beams with the number of O1O2. The UE receives a configuration indicating the higher layer parameter “typeI-codebookMode-r19” is set to “modeA” , which is associated with a bitmap consisting of the beam groups. Each bit of the bitmap corresponds to one beam group.

[0037] In this example, regarding bit=1 in the bitmap, the corresponding beam group (s) is (are) determined as the beam selection range. Otherwise, when the bit=0 in the bitmap, the corresponding beam group (s) is (are) excluded from the beam selection range. Accordingly, the UE freely selects a main beam b1 in the beam map. The UE determines a plurality of selectable beams associated with the main beam within the beam selection range, while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one of horizontal dimension and vertical dimension. In other words, a beam, (1) being orthogonal to the main beam in horizontal dimension or vertical dimension and (2) within the beam selection range (shown as a dashed-line area in FIG. 3) , is determined as one selectable beam. Then, the UE selects additional beams from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and transmits (reports) the main beam and the additional beams to the network node.

[0038] More specifically, for rank 5 or rank 6, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl, m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select two additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′and vl″, m″) defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and report three selected beams (i.e., the main beam and two additional beams) to the network node. For rank 7 or rank 8, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl, m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select three additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′, vl″, m″ and vl″′, m″′ defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and report four selected beams (i.e., the main beam and three additional beams) to the network node.

[0039] FIG. 4 illustrates an example scenario 400 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. For example, a beam map is derived (e.g., pre-defined or configured) based on parameters N1=2, N2=2, O1=2 and O2=2. The beam map consists of a plurality of beam groups with size N1N2. Each beam group has size O1 by O2 and consists of a plurality of beams with the number of O1O2. The UE receives a configuration indicating the higher layer parameter “typeI-codebookMode-r19” is set to “modeA” , which is associated with a bitmap consisting of the beam groups. Each bit of the bitmap corresponds to one beam of one beam group.

[0040] In this example, regarding bit=1 in the bit map, the corresponding beam (s) is (are) determined as the beam selection range. Otherwise, when the bit=0 in the bitmap, the corresponding beam (s) is (are) excluded from the beam selection range. Accordingly, the UE freely selects a main beam b1 in the beam map. The UE determines a plurality of selectable beams associated with the main beam within the beam selection range, while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one of horizontal dimension and vertical dimension. In other words, a beam, (1) being orthogonal to the main beam in horizontal dimension or vertical dimension and (2) within the beam selection range, is determined as one selectable beam (shown as a dashed-line area in FIG. 4) . Then, the UE selects additional beams from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and transmits (reports) the main beam and the additional beams to the network node.

[0041] More specifically, for rank 5 or rank 6, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl,m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select two additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′and vl″, m″) defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and report three selected beams (i.e., the main beam and two additional beams) to the network node.

[0042] FIG. 5 illustrates an example scenario 500 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. For example, a beam map is derived (e.g., pre-defined or configured) based on parameters N1=4, N2=3, O1=4 and O2=4. Each bit of the bitmap corresponds to one dimension with respect to a beam group including the main beam.

[0043] In this example, the bit map has four bits respectively indicating “above” , “below” “left” and “right” . Regarding bit=1 in the bit map, the corresponding direction (s) with respect to the beam group including the main beam is (are) determined as the beam selection range. Otherwise, when the bit=0 in the bitmap, the corresponding direction (s) with respect to the beam group including the main beam is (are) excluded from the beam selection range. More specifically, regarding bit=1 in the bit map, beam groups (s) to the corresponding direction (s) of the beam group including the main beam is (are) determined as the beam selection range. Otherwise, when the bit=0 in the bitmap, beam groups (s) to the corresponding direction (s) of the beam group including the main beam is (are) excluded from the beam selection range.

[0044] Accordingly, the UE freely selects a main beam b1 in the beam map. 5) , is determined as one selectable beam. Then, the UE selects additional beams from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and transmits (reports) the main beam and the additional beams to the network node. It should be noted that the directions “above” , “below” “left” and “right” as used in this example, refer to relative spatial relationships within the beam map. However, it is not intended to limit the implementations of the present disclosure.

[0045] More specifically, for rank 5 or rank 6, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl,m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select two additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′and vl″′, m″) defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and report three selected beams (i.e., the main beam and two additional beams) to the network node. For rank 7 or rank 8, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl, m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select three additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′, vl″, m′″ and vl″′, m″′ defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and report four selected beams (i.e., the main beam and three additional beams) to the network node.

[0046] FIG. 6 illustrates an example scenario 600 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. For example, a beam map is derived (e.g., pre-defined or configured) based on parameters N1=4, N2=3, O1=4 and O2=4. The beam map consists of a plurality of beam groups with size N1N2. Each beam group has size O1 by O2 and consists of a plurality of beams with the number of O1O2. The UE receives a configuration indicating the higher layer parameter “typeI-codebookMode-r19” is set to “modeA” , which is associated a range information corresponding to the plurality of beam groups. The range information includes at least one of row and column indices of the beam map to indicate the beam selection range via union or intersection.

[0047] In this example, the range information includes row index 2 and column index 4 of the beam map to indicate the beam selection range via intersection. Accordingly, the UE freely selects a main beam b1 in the beam map. The UE determines a plurality of selectable beams associated with the main beam within the beam selection range while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one of horizontal dimension and vertical dimension. In other words, a beam, (1) being orthogonal to the main beam in horizontal dimension or vertical dimension and (2) within the beam selection range (shown as a dashed-line area in FIG. 6) , is determined as one selectable beam. Then, the UE selects additional beams from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and transmits (reports) the main beam and the additional beams to the network node.

[0048] More specifically, for rank 5 or rank 6, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl,m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select two additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′and vl″, m″) defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and report three selected beams (i.e., the main beam and two additional beams) to the network node.

[0049] FIG. 7 illustrates an example scenario 700 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. The UE receives a configuration indicating the higher layer parameter “typeI-codebookMode-r19” is set to “modeA” , which is associated with a beam selection range. The beam selection range of the configuration includes at least one bit to indicate that: (1) the plurality of selectable beams include a first portion of the plurality of beam groups that are aligned with the same row as a beam group including the main beam (which is indicated by a bit=0) , or (2) the plurality of selectable beams include a second portion of the plurality of beam groups that are not in the same row as the beam group including the main beam (which is indicated by the bit=1) .

[0050] In this example, regarding bit=0, the plurality of selectable beams are indicated to include the second portion of the plurality of beam groups that are not in the same row as the beam group including the main beam. 7) , is determined as one selectable beam. Then, the UE selects additional beams from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and transmits (reports) the main beam and the additional beams to the network node.

[0051] More specifically, for rank 5 or rank 6, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl,m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select two additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′and vl″′, m″) defined in 3GPP specification) from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and report three selected beams (i.e., the main beam and two additional beams) to the network node.

[0052] In some embodiments, the UE may receive a configuration (e.g., a higher layer parameter “typeI-codebookMode-r19” of 3GPP specification set to “modeA” ) indicating a codebook type for PMI selection. Then, after receiving signal (s) (e.g., CSI-RSs) used for channel estimation, the UE may freely select a main beam b1 in a beam map. The UE may determine a plurality of selectable beams associated with the main beam based on the configuration while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one of horizontal dimension and vertical dimension. In other words, a beam, (1) being orthogonal to the main beam in horizontal dimension or vertical dimension and (2) within the beam selection range may be determined as one selectable beam. Then, the UE may select additional beams from the plurality of selectable beams within the beam selection range and transmit (report) PMI information including the main beam and the additional beams to the network node.

[0053] In some implementations, the selectable beams may consist of a plurality of beam groups, and the main beam and the plurality of additional beams may be determined from at least one selected beam group of the plurality of beam groups. In particular, the plurality of beam groups may include: (1) a first beam group including beams that are orthogonal to the main beam in the horizontal dimension; and (2) a second beam group including beams that are orthogonal to the main beam in the vertical dimension. The at least one selected beam group may include the first beam group and / or the second beam group.

[0054] In some cases, the at least one selected beam group may be indicated by a bitmap. For example, the bitmap includes a bit. When the bit is “0” , the selected beam group is the first beam group. When the bit is “1” , the selected beam group is the second beam group. In some cases, the PMI information reported from the UE to the network node may include the bit indicating the at least one selected beam group.

[0055] In some implementations, the selected beam group may include the first beam group. In some cases, the first beam group may include a plurality of first beam subgroups. In each first beam subgroup, beams may be orthogonal to the main beam in the horizontal dimension. In addition, log2 (N1) bits and log2 (N2O2) bits may be used to indicate one of the plurality of additional beams where N1 may be the number of antennas of the antenna array in horizontal direction, N2 may be the number of antennas of an antenna array in vertical direction, O2 may be the DFT oversampling factor associated with N2. More specifically, the UE may use log2 (N1) bits to indicate which first beam subgroup is selected, and then use log2 (N2O2) bits to indicate one additional within the selected first beam subgroup.

[0056] In some implementations, the selected beam group may include the second beam group. In some cases, the second beam group may include a plurality of second beam subgroups. In each second beam subgroup, beams may be orthogonal to the main beam in the vertical dimension. In addition, log2 (N2) bits and log2 (N1O1) bits may be used to indicate one of the plurality of additional beams where N2 may be the number of antennas of the antenna array in vertical direction, N1 may be the number of antennas of an antenna array in horizontal direction, O1 may be the DFT oversampling factor associated with N1. More specifically, the UE may use log2 (N2) bits to indicate which second beam subgroup is selected, and then use log2 (N1O1) bits to indicate one additional within the selected second beam subgroup.

[0057] FIG. 8 illustrates an example scenario 800 under schemes in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. For example, a beam map is derived (e.g., pre-defined or configured) based on parameters N1=4, N2=3, O1=4 and O2=4. The beam map consists of a plurality of elements, and each element corresponding to a beam. The UE receives a configuration in which the parameter “typeI-codebookMode-r19” is set to ‘modeA’ .

[0058] In this example, the UE freely selects a main beam b1 in the beam map. The UE determines a plurality of selectable beams associated with the main beam from a plurality of selectable beams based on the configuration while each selectable beam is orthogonal to the main beam in at least one of horizontal dimension and vertical dimension. In other words, a beam being orthogonal to the main beam in horizontal dimension or vertical dimension is determined as one selectable beam.

[0059] Further, the selectable beams consist of a first beam group and a second beam group. The first beam group includes beams that are orthogonal to the main beam in the horizontal dimension. The second beam group includes beams that are orthogonal to the main beam in the vertical dimension. Then, the UE selects the first beam group or the second group and selects the plurality of additional beams from the selected beam group.

[0060] Then, the UE transmits (reports) PMI information including the main beam and the plurality of additional beams to the network node. In particular, the PMI information includes index of the main beam and a bitmap including a bit. The selected beam group is indicated by the bit of the bitmap. In this example, when the bit is ‘0” , it means that the UE selects the first beam group. When the bit is ‘1” , it means that the UE selects the second beam group.

[0061] In addition, in this example, regarding reporting the additional beams, some bits are used for indicating part of the additional beams within the selected beam group. More specifically, in some scenarios, the selected beam group includes the first beam group. The first beam group includes a plurality of first beam subgroups (i.e., a total of N1 columns as shown in FIG. 8) . The UE uses log2 (N1) bits and log2 (N2O2) bits to indicate one additional beam within the first beam subgroups. In some scenarios, the selected beam group includes the second beam group. The second beam group includes a plurality of second beam subgroups (i.e., a total of N2 rows as shown in FIG. 8) . The UE uses log2 (N1) bits and log2 (N2O2) bits to indicate one additional beam within the second beam subgroups.

[0062] More specifically, for rank 5 or rank 6, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl,m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select two additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′and vl″, m″) defined in 3GPP specification) from the selected beam group (i.e., the first beam group or the second beam group) and report three selected beams (i.e., the main beam and two additional beams) to the network node. For rank 7 or rank 8, after selecting the main beam (e.g., beam vl, m defined in 3GPP specification) , the UE may select three additional beams (e.g., beams vl′, m′, vl″, m″ and vl″′, m″′ defined in 3GPP specification) from the selected beam group (i.e., the first beam group or the second beam group) and report four selected beams (i.e., the main beam and three additional beams) to the network node.

[0063] In some implementations, the selectable beams may be configured by a Radio Resource Control (RRC) signal, a Media Access Control Control Element (MAC CE) or a Downlink Control Information (DCI) .

[0064] In some implementations, the UE may transmit an assistance information (e.g., UE Assistance Information, UAI) to the network node for determining the selectable beams.

[0065] Accordingly, specifying a beam selection range may significantly improve the efficiency of beam determination (i.e., the selection of the main beam and additional beams from the beam map) by reducing computational complexity, narrowing the search space, and minimizing feedback overhead. As a result, the beam management process may be optimized in terms of accuracy, responsiveness, and implementation overhead within the system. Additional Notes

[0095] The herein-described subject matter sometimes illustrates different components contained within, or connected with, different other components. It is to be understood that such depicted architectures are merely examples, and that in fact many other architectures can be implemented which achieve the same functionality. In a conceptual sense, any arrangement of components to achieve the same functionality is effectively "associated" such that the desired functionality is achieved. Hence, any two components herein combined to achieve a particular functionality can be seen as "associated with" each other such that the desired functionality is achieved, irrespective of architectures or intermedial components. Likewise, any two components so associated can also be viewed as being "operably connected" , or "operably coupled" , to each other to achieve the desired functionality, and any two components capable of being so associated can also be viewed as being "operably couplable" , to each other to achieve the desired functionality. Specific examples of operably couplable include but are not limited to physically mateable and / or physically interacting components and / or wirelessly interactable and / or wirelessly interacting components and / or logically interacting and / or logically interactable components.

[0096] Further, with respect to the use of substantially any plural and / or singular terms herein, those having skill in the art can translate from the plural to the singular and / or from the singular to the plural as is appropriate to the context and / or application. The various singular / plural permutations may be expressly set forth herein for sake of clarity.

[0097] Moreover, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that, in general, terms used herein, and especially in the appended claims, e.g., bodies of the appended claims, are generally intended as “open” terms, e.g., the term “including” should be interpreted as “including but not limited to, ” the term “having” should be interpreted as “having at least, ” the term “includes” should be interpreted as “includes but is not limited to, ” etc. It will be further understood by those within the art that if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is intended, such an intent will be explicitly recited in the claim, and in the absence of such recitation no such intent is present. For example, as an aid to understanding, the following appended claims may contain usage of the introductory phrases "at least one" and "one or more" to introduce claim recitations. However, the use of such phrases should not be construed to imply that the introduction of a claim recitation by the indefinite articles "a" or "an" limits any particular claim containing such introduced claim recitation to implementations containing only one such recitation, even when the same claim includes the introductory phrases "one or more" or "at least one" and indefinite articles such as "a" or "an, " e.g., “a” and / or “an” should be interpreted to mean “at least one” or “one or more; ” the same holds true for the use of definite articles used to introduce claim recitations. In addition, even if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is explicitly recited, those skilled in the art will recognize that such recitation should be interpreted to mean at least the recited number, e.g., the bare recitation of "two recitations, " without other modifiers, means at least two recitations, or two or more recitations. Furthermore, in those instances where a convention analogous to “at least one of A, B, and C, etc. ” is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand the convention, e.g., “a system having at least one of A, B, and C” would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and / or A, B, and C together, etc. In those instances where a convention analogous to “at least one of A, B, or C, etc. ” is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand the convention, e.g., “a system having at least one of A, B, or C” would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and / or A, B, and C together, etc. It will be further understood by those within the art that virtually any disjunctive word and / or phrase presenting two or more alternative terms, whether in the description, claims, or drawings, should be understood to contemplate the possibilities of including one of the terms, either of the terms, or both terms. For example, the phrase “A or B” will be understood to include the possibilities of “A” or “B” or “A and B. ”
