AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing communication technologies face challenges in efficiently associating and managing larger sets of reference signal (RS) resources, particularly with the introduction of 64 and 128 ports in Release 19, leading to ambiguity and complexity in the TCI/QCL framework, which is not adequately addressed by current standards.

Method used

A mechanism is introduced to identify and associate a set of RS resources using association information within TCI state configurations, employing RS group identifiers, lists of resource IDs, and binary indicators to establish clear relationships, ensuring that multiple RS resources function jointly as a larger entity with common QCL information.

Benefits of technology

This approach simplifies the linkage of RS resources, avoiding ambiguity and enabling efficient operation of larger antenna port configurations, such as up to 64 or 128 ports, by maintaining flexibility in TCI state IDs while ensuring clear associations.

[0045] Release 19 has already adopted the usage of multiple Channel State Information-Reference Signal (CSI-RS) resources to enable the (Multiple Input Multiple Output) MIMO port extension up to 128 ports. The new requirements appearing for larger number of ports in Rel. 19, i.e. 64 and up 128 ports, and there is a need for a proper and simplified linkage and an adequate association for a set of RS resources, so as to support larger antenna ports sets.

[0046] In view of the above, some embodiments of the present disclosure proposed a solution for identifying a set of RS resources. Specifically, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, a terminal device receives a plurality of TCI state configurations associated with a plurality of RS resources. At least one TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations includes association information identifying the plurality of RS resources as a set of RS resources. The terminal device further determines based on the association information, the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources. In this way, it is proposed a mechanism of identification and linkage for a set RS resources having multiple RS resources associated by the association information which establishes a common relationship across these resources into the TCI state configuration (for example, QCL information) , thereby ensuring that those resources may work jointly to create a larger RS set having a larger number of ports (for example, up to 64 ports, or 128 ports) , and avoiding any ambiguity on the linkage of one certain RS resource with a set of RS resources.

[0047] For illustrative purposes, principle and example embodiments of the present disclosure for identifying a set of RS resources or linking of a set of RS resources will be  described below with reference to Figs. 1-9. However, it is to be noted that these embodiments are given to enable the skilled in the art to understand inventive concepts of the present disclosure and implement the solution as proposed herein, and not intended to limit scope of the present application in any way.

[0048] Fig. 1 illustrates an example network environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented. The environment 100, which may be a part of a communication network, includes terminal devices and network devices.

[0049] As illustrated in Fig. 1, the communication network 100 may include a terminal device 120 (hereinafter may also be referred to as user equipment 120 or a UE 210) . The communication network 100 may further include a network device 110. The network device 110 may manage one or more cells. As an example, the network device 110 is configured with a plurality of beams 110-1 to 110-4 which provide coverage for the cell of the network device 110, and each beam may correspond to a RS resource.

[0050] It is to be appreciated that the number of network devices and terminal devices is given only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. The system 100 may include any suitable number of network devices and / or terminal devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. Although not shown, it would be appreciated that one or more terminal devices may be located in the environment 100.

[0051] Communications in the network environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) or beyond, wireless local network communication protocols such as institute for electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) , orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) , time division multiplexing (TDM) , frequency division multiplexing (FDM) , code division multiplexing (CDM) , Bluetooth, ZigBee, and machine type communication (MTC) , enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) , massive machine type communication (mMTC) , ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) , carrier aggregation (CA) , dual connection (DC) , and new radio unlicensed (NR-U) technologies.

[0052] Since the advent of 5G NR and the release 15, the CSI framework considers the usage of CSI-RS resources with up to 32 CSI-RS ports per resource to enable the calculation of Type I / Type II CSI feedback in the UE. As mentioned above, release 19 has already  adopted the usage of multiple CSI-RS resources to enable the MIMO port extension up to 128 ports. That is to say, for Rel. 19, this CSI framework is being extended to support more than 32 CSI-RS ports, i.e., up to 64-port and 128-port CSI-RS resource configurations. However, it was agreed in Rel-19 that supporting CSI for up to 128 ports would not involve defining CSI-RS resources having more than the current 32 ports. As a result, supporting Type I / II CSI feedback for greater than 32 ports involves keeping the current CSI-RS designs, but combining two or more CSI-RS resources to form a combined CSI-RS resource set having a number of ports up to 128.

[0053] Hereinafter, reference will be made to Fig. 2A, which illustrates the extension from 32 CSI-RS port to a higher number of ports by concatenation of K CSI-RS resources in a horizontal or vertical orientation in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. According to the embodiment of Fig. 2A, more antenna ports can be achieved by grouping sets of individual of CSI-RS resources from the MIMO antenna topology point of view. For example, supporting Type I / II CSI feedback for 64 ports would involve aggregating two 32-port CSI-RS resources, whereas supporting 128 ports would involve aggregating four 32-port CSI-RS resources. In other words, K CSI-RS resources each having 32 ports can be used to create a set, with K=2 resources for 64 ports and K=4 resources for 128 ports. As shown in Fig. 2A, a CSI-RS resource may have 32 ports, in which one port of a pair of ports has a polarity 1 with +45 degrees, and the other port of the pair of ports has a polarity 2 with -45 degrees. These sets may be arranged in horizontal or vertical configurations as depicted in Fig. 2A by grouping antenna ports in a subpanel fashion.

[0054] Hereinafter, reference will be made to Fig. 2B, which illustrates the extension from 32 CSI-RS ports to a higher number of ports by CSI-RS precoding to generate K CSI-RS resources in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. That is to say, alternatively, these CSI-RS resources could use the same antennas grouped in a given number of ports (for instance 32 ports) , but with multiple beams as a result of some precoded beamforming scheme (e.g. by having beams with different tilt in vertical dimension) . That is to say, the number of antennas will keep unchanged, and the multiple beams are formed by the precoded beamforming scheme of the antenna ports. This gives as a result that after such antenna port precoding, for each generated beam, it may correspond to a given associated CSI-RS resource, respectively, and the corresponding CSI-RS resource set is formed by aggregating such resources.

[0055] Hereinafter, reference will be made to Fig. 2C, which illustrates the timeline associated to the transmission of K CSI-RS resources in accordance with some embodiments  of the present disclosure. From the CSI-RS resource scheduling timeline point of view, these resources (for example, 4 CSI-RS resources) are transmitted in the same slot or in 2 consecutive time slots as depicted in Fig. 2C. This transmission scheme has been adopted not only for the CSI-RS transmission of periodical / semi-persistent CSI-RS (P / SP-CSI-RS) but also aperiodic CSI-RS (AP CSI-RS) , and also in particular the special AP-CSI-RS burst scheme used for the Time Domain / Doppler Type II extended codebook for 64 / 128ports.

[0056] As mentioned above, with the new requirements appearing for larger number of ports in Rel. 19, i.e. 64 and up to 128 ports, it is required to make certain considerations to extend not only the CSI framework but also the TCI / QCL framework accordingly. However, the TCI / QCL framework up to this moment has not been addressed in the ongoing 3GPP meetings.

[0057] Hereinafter, reference will be made to Fig. 3A, which illustrates a scenario in which a set of multiple target RS need to have a common link with a QCL source RS in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0058] In configurations up to Rel. 18 with 32 ports per CSI-RS resource, the CSI-RS is directly associated to a QCL source (e.g. an SSB beam) with a given TCI state ID to establish the link between a source RS and a target RS given by related channel characteristics (based on a respective QCL type associated) . With regard to source RS, in the field of wireless communications, especially in 5G NR (New Radio) networks, it refers to reference signals used as a benchmark for channel characteristic estimation, and these reference signals usually have known and stable channel characteristics and can be used to derive or estimate the channel characteristics of other reference signals (for example, target RS) . As for the target RS, target RS refers to the reference signals that need to be used by UE for channel estimation or demodulation, and these reference signals are usually associated with source RS through QCL relationships or information included in the TCI state ID. In the 5G NR network, the source RS can be any proper type, such as Synchronization Signal Block (SSB) beam or CSI-RS, and the source RS is associated with the target RS through the TCI state and QCL relationship to optimize communication performance. In a QCL relationship, the channel characteristics between the source RS and the target RS are considered to be similar or can be derived from one to the other. This similarity is based on the physical properties of the channel characteristics, such as Doppler shift, Doppler spread, average delay, delay spread, and spatial receiver parameters. The network side (such as the base station) configures the TCI state to instruct the UE how to use the channel characteristics information of the source RS to estimate or derive the channel characteristics of the target RS.

[0059] Since multiple target RS need to have a common link with a QCL source RS as shown in Fig. 3A, there is a need for a linkage for linking the source RS to a set of multiple CSI-RS resources (for example, the multiple CSI-RS resources can be multiple target RSs, if there is a source RS) . Therefore, there is a need for an implemented mechanism to provide a necessary linkage information to avoid any ambiguity on the association of a source RS and a plurality of target RSs.

[0060] Hereinafter, reference will be made to Fig. 3B, which illustrates a scenario in which a set of multiple source RS in DL need to be linked with one or more target RS from UL in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this scenario, the source RS may be CSI-RS resources, and the target RS may be Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) resources. That is to say, the linkage may be not limited to the DL signals only, UL signals only, but also applicable for the DL and UL signals with similar channel characteristics (and determined by the QCL type) .

[0061] As shown in Fig. 3B, there is a need for a linkage between uplink signals, e.g. a set of SRS resources, and downlink signals illustrated by a set of several CSI-RS resources. The set of several CSI-RS resources (for example, source RS#1, source RS#2, source RS#3, and source RS#4) need to be linked to the target RS#1 or target RS#2. The set of several CSI-RS resources have the MIMO port extension up to 128 ports. Therefore, there is a need for an implemented mechanism to provide a necessary linkage information to avoid any ambiguity on the association of a target RS and a plurality of source RSs.

[0062] Without a proper and simplified linkage and a more adequate TCI / QCL definition or association information for RS sets, the associations may become quite cumbersome or even not possible, as more RS resources are used to support larger antenna ports sets, and there is no way to indicate that such RS resources are grouped to work as a single entity with common QCL information.

[0063] In order to avoid any ambiguity on the association of a source RS and a plurality of target RSs, or the association of a target RS and a plurality of source RSs, there is a need for an implemented mechanism to provide a necessary linkage information. The implemented mechanism may involve the required changes on the TCI / QCL framework, taking into account the new requirements given by the CSI-RS port extension for Type I / Type II codebooks in Rel. 19. The new requirements appearing for larger number of ports in Rel. 19, i.e. 64 and up 128 ports, it is required to make certain considerations to extend not only the CSI framework but also the TCI / QCL framework accordingly, and it is required to associate a source RS and a target RS, and several CSI-RS resources is to be associated as a single RS  group entity to support a larger number of CSI-RS ports.

[0064] Fig. 4 illustrates an example signaling process 400 for linking a set of RS resources in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 400 will be described with reference to Fig. 1. The process 400 may involve the terminal device 120 and the network device 110 as illustrated in Fig. 1, and the terminal device 402 may be the example of the terminal device 120, and the network device 401 may be the example of the network device 110. It would be appreciated that although the process 400 has been described in the communication environment 100 of Fig. 1, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios with similar issues.

[0065] As shown in Fig. 4, the network device 401 determines (405) association information in at least one TCI state configuration among a plurality of TCI state configurations associated with a plurality of RS resources, and the association information identifies the plurality of RS resources as a set of RS resources. Then, the network device 401 transmits (410) to the terminal device 402, the plurality of TCI state configurations 403 including the at least one TCI state configuration including the association information. The terminal device 402 receives (415) the plurality of TCI state configurations including the at least one TCI state configuration including the association information. Then, the terminal device 402 determines (420) based on the association information the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources.

[0066] By the process 400, it is proposed a mechanism of identification and linkage for a set RS resources having multiple RS resources associated by the association information, which establishes a common relationship across these resources into the TCI state configuration (for example, QCL information) , thereby ensuring that those resources may work jointly to create a larger RS set having a larger number of ports (for example, up to 64 ports, or 128 ports) , and avoiding any ambiguity on the linkage of one certain RS resource with a set of RS resources.

[0067] Therefore, there is a proper and simplified association information and identification to indicate that such TCI state configurations and the respective associated RSs belong to a same set of resources, which brings as a result a larger number of ports (up to 64, or 128) acting as a whole transmitting entity either acting as a source or target RS set. There is no need to create TCI state groups as such, but rather establish explicitly the association among these RS resources with already given TCI state IDs. Therefore, the TCI state IDs of the plurality of RS resources may remain unchanged as in the standard, but the TCI state configuration (for example, QCL-info) would count with additional information to establish  such relationships between the plurality of RS resources. Therefore, the TCI state IDs can be flexibly used to indicate a set of associated RS resources but also a single indicated RS resource depending on the network requirements and UE capabilities.

[0068] For each TCI state configuration, it has respective QCL information which provides information about the QCL source and QCL type to establish the necessary relationships with a given RS. The TCI state configuration is depicted in the illustration below.

[0069] As shown above, the QCL source RS may be CSI-RS or SSB, for example, for the scenario as shown in Fig. 3A, the source RS may be SSB, and the for the scenario as shown in Fig. 3B, the source RS may be CSI-RS. The QCL-type may comprise QCL-Type A (Doppler shift, Doppler spread, average delay, delay spread) , QCL-Type B (Doppler shift, Doppler spread) , QCL-Type C (average delay, Doppler shift) , and QCL-Type D (Spatial Rx parameter) .

[0070] Considering the necessity to establish a relationship with more than one RS, in which a set of CSI-RS resources become a large entity acting as a CSI-RS entity with larger number of ports (up to 64 or 128 ports) , additional information (for example, linkage information or association information as mentioned above) is required to determine this relationship.

[0071] Several examples of the association information for establishing such a relationship for groups of RS resources will be described hereinafter. It should be appreciated that although the examples are provided by using CSI-RS as example, the present disclosure is not limited thereto, and these mechanisms of establishing the relationship should be also valid also for other type of RSs.

[0072] In some embodiments, the association information comprises an RS group identifier (ID) of the set of RS resources, the RS group identifier is included in the plurality of TCI  state configurations. That is to say, in order to ensure the plurality of RS resources to work jointly to create a larger RS set, the mechanism of identification may consist of a RS group ID for a group of resources or a set of resources into a resource set, and it should be appreciated that the group of RS resources and the set of RS resource may be used interchangeably in the present disclosure.

[0073] For example, one possible way for linkage of a set of RS resources is to create an identifier for the resource set group inside QCL-info for each of the resources. In this way, it may add a field in the TCI state configuration to indicate a RS group / set in which the RS resources belong to. In the exemplary example illustrated below, the field of “csi-rs extension-group” (underlined below) is added into the information belonging to the respective QCL-info as a RS group identifier. For example, the TCI state configuration of this example for each RS resource may be modified with respect to the QCL-info as follows, in which the underlined content is newly added.

[0074] As shown above, this RS group identifier or indication (for example, csi-rs extension-group NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceGroup-ID) provides a group ID to the plurality of CSI-RSs belonging to the same group, which will have the same group ID. Therefore, multiple TCI states might have this information in common and may establish a QCL relationship to a set of RS resources sharing the same group ID. This establishes not only a relationship with the multiple target RSs but also the relationship among them to create a RS resource entity.

[0075] Therefore, in this example, it may create a special RS group identifier included into to the TCI state configuration (for example, QCL information) of each RS in the group. This RS group identifier must be in the attributes of each TCI / QCL state related information of the group of RSs. RS resources with the same identifier are understood to be part of the same RS resource set entity.

[0076] In these embodiments, the network device 401 may also transmit to the terminal device 402 an indicator of whether the association information is active to identify the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources or the association information is to be ignored. Based on determining that the indicator indicates that the association information is active, the terminal device 402 may determine the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources based on the association information. For example, if the set of TCI state IDs happens to be active simultaneously as an entity, a binary indicator may confirm that the RS resources into the group / set should be considered as a single RS group entity, otherwise the RS extension-group ID indication should be ignored. That is to say, an additional binary indicator may be used to specify if the TCI states ID with a certain RS group identifier should be treated as a RS group entity or as independent resources if triggered, hence the RS group association is ignored.

[0077] In some alternative embodiments, the association information comprises a list of RS resource IDs included in a TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations, in which the TCI state configuration is associated with a reference RS resource among the set of RS resources, and the list of RS resource IDs indicates RS resources among the set of RS resources excluding the reference RS resource.

[0078] In these embodiments, one possible way for linkage of a set of RS resources is to indicate the association through a vector / list of IDs into the QCL-info of a reference RS resource. That is to say, it may be that only the QCL-info of the reference RS resource may have this association information, i.e., a vector or list of some RS resources IDs.

[0079] In this way, it may use the TCI state ID of one certain resource of the RS resources, which may be called as “reference RS resource” . The RS IDs of other RS in the group may be added to the attributes of the “reference RS resource” (e.g., in QCL info) to indicate an association, and may be stored into a vector or a list with such RS IDs. It may choose a RS resource ID of one CSI-RS resource from the K CSI-RS resources (K>1) as the ID of the reference resource, and then link other K-1 CSI-RSs to this reference resource. The way how the CSI-RS reference resource is chosen may be decided autonomously by the NW.

[0080] In this example, it may add some additional information, for example, the set of K- 1 CSI-RS resources linked or associated to the reference resource and indicated by their own RS resource ID respectively, to the set of parameters into QCL-info. In the exemplary example illustrated below, “NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceId” corresponds to the reference resource. In order to achieve this association, it may add an extra field, in which it may have a vector or a list of the K-1 CSI-RS resource IDs (for example, NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_1, NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_2…etc) that are associated to the main RS resource or the reference RS resource. This list in the example may be called as “csi-rs associated set” . For example, the TCI state configuration of this example for only the reference RS resource may be modified with respect to the QCL-info as follows, in which the underlined content is newly added.

[0081] For example, there are four RS resources, i.e., NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_1, NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_2, NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_3, and NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_4. If the resource having NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_4 is chosen as the reference RS resource, the field of csi-rs associated set may comprise NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_1, NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_2, NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_3, which means that the list of RS resource IDs in the field of csi-rs associated set may exclude the ID of the reference RS resource.

[0082] In these embodiments, the network device 401 may also transmit to the terminal device 402 an indicator of whether the association information is active to identify the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources or the association information is to be ignored. Based on determining that the indicator indicates that the association information is active, the terminal device 402 may determine the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources based on the association information. That is to say, an additional binary  indicator may help to determine during any TCI triggering or any other related procedure, whether the TCI state ID associated to the reference RS resource refers to the individual RS (i.e. the reference RS itself) or the whole group of CSI-RS associated to the reference RS. Therefore, in order to avoid ambiguity with the TCI state ID when needed, a binary indicator may be put in place to allow understanding if the given TCI state ID refers to the reference resource ID all alone (i.e. one single CSI-RS resource) , or the TCI state ID is referring to the reference resource ID and also all the other associated K-1 resource IDs to the reference one, (i.e. the full group of K CSI-RS resources) .

[0083] In some alternative embodiments, the association information comprises a plurality of lists of RS resource IDs included in the plurality of TCI state configurations, respectively. Further, for a first RS resource associated with a first TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations, a list of RS resource IDs included in the first TCI state configuration indicates RS resources among the set of RS resources excluding the first RS resource. Accordingly, each TCI state configuration of each RS resource may include this association information. However, the association information for the first TCI state configuration will be different from the association information for the second TCI state configuration, and the association information in one certain TCI state configuration will exclude the ID of one certain RS resource.

[0084] For example, one another possible way for linkage of a set of RS resources is to indicate the association through a vector / list of IDs being included in the QCL-info of all RS resources of the group. These embodiments will be the alternative embodiments of those which indicate the association through a vector / list of IDs into the QCL-info of a reference RS resource. In these embodiments, it will avoid the use of a single reference resource for a given group of RSs, but enable all of the RS resources (and the related TCI state IDs) as identifiers of the group. Therefore, it may indicate in the TCI related attributes of each of the RS resources (e.g. in QCL-info) , the association with any other resource of the RS group by having a list of all resource IDs associated. The difference with the previous alternative of indicating the association through a reference RS resource is that any related TCI state ID linked to the group of RSs may be used for TCI state triggering / activation and not only a single reference resource.

[0085] For example, there are four CSI-RS resources, and the TCI state configuration of this example for the resource having the ID of NZP-CSI-RS-Resource-ID_1 may be modified with respect to the QCL-info as follows, in which the underlined content is newly added.

[0086] It should be appreciated that the TCI state configuration for the resource having the ID #2 will have the IDs #1, #3, and #4, and the TCI state configuration for the resource having the ID #3 will have the IDs #1, #2, and #4, and the TCI state configuration for the resource having the ID #4 will have the IDs #1, #2, and #3. Therefore, all the CSI-RS resources would contain the necessary ID associations to other K-1 resources in the CSI-RS resource group. Thus no “reference resource” would be needed. In that case the QCL-info of each of the TCI states would contain the list of resource IDs of all other K-1 resources, which we may also call as “csi-rs associated set” as already used previously.

[0087] In these embodiments, any of the TCI state IDs in the group would be able to trigger / activate other TCI state IDs of the group or being referred in any related procedure to represent the whole RS group / set (and the associated TCI state IDs) as a full RS resource set entity. In this case, during the TCI activation / triggering, the related TCI state information may use binary indicators to confirm that the TCI state ID or TCI state IDs are indeed being used to identify the RS resource group / set with K resources, or the RS resource group / set should be ignored and each RS resource (and the related TCI state ID) corresponds to individual not linked resources. Therefore, the network device 401 may also transmit to the terminal device 402 an indicator of whether the association information is active to identify the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources or the association information is to be ignored. In this embodiment, the association information will be included in any of the TCI state configurations, and different TCI state configurations will comprise different association information. Based on determining that the indicator indicates that the  association information is active, the terminal device 402 may determine the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources based on the association information.

[0088] In some alternative embodiments, the association information comprises an RS resource ID of a reference RS resource among the set of RS resources, and the RS resource ID of the reference RS resource is included in the plurality of TCI state configurations. That is to say, the association information is included in each TCI state configuration for each RS resource.

[0089] Similar to the embodiment having the identifier for the resource set group, this embodiment will simply use the RS resource ID of a RS reference resource, instead of creating a RS group identifier. Thus, the possible way for linkage of the set of RS resources is to indicate the “reference resource ID” on the related QCL-info of all other RS resources. This would be somehow similar to using a RS group identifier but using the reference resource ID as common information for linkage.

[0090] Therefore, all resources into the set would have into the TCI / QCL related attributes, the resource ID of the RS reference resource. In the example, the field “csi-rs_reference_resource” attribute in QCL-info for all TCI state will be described as follows, in which the underlined content is newly added.

[0091] During the TCI activation / triggering, the related TCI state information may use binary indicators to confirm that the TCI state ID or TCI state IDs are indeed being used to  identify the RS resource group / set with K resources, or the RS resource group / set should be ignored and each RS resource (and the related TCI state ID) corresponds to individual not linked resources. Therefore, the network device 401 may also transmit to the terminal device 402 an indicator of whether the association information is active to identify the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources or the association information is to be ignored. In this embodiment, the association information associated with the RS resource ID of a RS reference resource will be included in any of the TCI state configurations. Based on determining that the indicator indicates that the association information is active, the terminal device 402 may determine the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources based on the association information.

[0092] Therefore, by having the way of identifying a group of RS resources with a same identifier, either using a reference RS resource or any additional group identification / association method, it avoids any ambiguity on the linkage of Source RSs with set of target RSs. The procedure covers into its scope any kind of linkage between DL only signals, UL only signals or DL / UL signals.

[0093] In general, this may be useful, for instance, to use TCI state IDs in UEs that intends to group these resources and use the CSI-RS port extension with multiple resources up 128 ports (e.g. K resources with 32 CSI-RS ports each) . Further, it may be also useful to use the TCI state IDs to provides flexibility if same TCI state IDs are wanted to be used to identify individual RS resources intended to be used separately, e.g. for UE which only supports up to 32 ports or in Multi CRI cases in which multiple PMI measurements are needed.

[0094] Fig. 5 illustrates a process of indicating the TCI / QCL relationship for a set of RS resources with a plurality of TCI state IDs and common QCL information in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0095] At block 510, the network device 401 determines the RS resource that belongs to the same RS set. At block 520, the network device 401 establishes the QCL and the TCI state ID information for each RS resource, that is to map the TCI state IDs to each RS resource. At block 530, the network device 401 defines at least one identifier or association information attribute inside the QCL information to link / associate the different TCI state IDs associated to each RS resource. As mentioned above, the identifier or association information may be an RS group identifier, a list of RS resource IDs except for the IDs of the reference resource, a list of RS resource IDs except for the ID of the resource that the certain TCI state ID represents, or an ID of the reference resource.

[0096] At block 540, the network device 401 transmits to the UE the set of TCI state IDs  including at least one identifier or association information that can be used to identify the set of RS resources with common QCL information. With regard to the common QCL information, almost all other key and important fields in the QCL information, except for the association information and the identifier, should be the same (for example, QCL source ID, QCL type, etc. ) , and the association information field may be specific to the TCI state ID. The QCL information, which establishes QCL source / type, is common, but has special association indication / identifiers which indicate the association across the resources. The network device 401 may also transmit to the UE an indicator to indicate that the linkage is active to form a RS set group. The indicator may be included in the TCI state IDs or transmitted independently.

[0097] Fig. 6 shows a flowchart of an example method 600 implemented at a terminal device (for example, the terminal device 120) in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 600 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 120 with reference to Fig. 1.

[0098] At block 610, the terminal device receives a plurality of TCI state configurations associated with a plurality of reference signal (RS) resources, in which at least one TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations includes association information identifying the plurality of RS resources as a set of RS resources. At block 620, the terminal device determines, based on the association information, the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources.

[0099] In some embodiments, the association information comprises an RS group identifier of the set of RS resources, and the RS group identifier is included in the plurality of TCI state configurations.

[0100] In some embodiments, the association information comprises a list of RS resource IDs included in a TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations, in which the TCI state configuration is associated with a reference RS resource among the set of RS resources, and the list of RS resource IDs indicates RS resources among the set of RS resources excluding the reference RS resource.

[0101] In some embodiments, the association information comprises a plurality of lists of RS resource IDs included in the plurality of TCI state configurations, respectively, and for a first RS resource associated with a first TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations, a list of RS resource IDs included in the first TCI state configuration indicates RS resources among the set of RS resources excluding the first RS resource.

[0102] In some embodiments, the association information comprises an RS resource ID of  a reference RS resource among the set of RS resources, and the RS resource ID of the reference RS resource is included in the plurality of TCI state configurations.

[0103] In some embodiments, the terminal device further determines the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources by: receiving an indicator of whether the association information is active to identify the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources or the association information is to be ignored; and based on determining that the indicator indicates that the association information is active, determining the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources based on the association information.

[0104] In some embodiments, the association information is included in at least one QCL information field in the at least one TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations. In some embodiments, the set of RS resources form an RS resource with a number of ports equal to the sum of the number of ports of all RS resources in the set of RS resources.

[0105] Fig. 7 shows a flowchart of an example method 700 implemented at a network device (for example, the network device 110) in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 700 will be described from the perspective of the network device 110 with reference to Fig. 1.

[0106] At block 710, the network device determines association information in at least one transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state configuration among a plurality of TCI state configurations associated with a set of reference signal (RS) resources, in which the association information identifies the set of RS resources. At block 720, the network device transmits, to a terminal device, the plurality of TCI state configurations including the at least one TCI state configuration including the association information.

[0107] In some embodiments, the association information comprises an RS group identifier of the set of RS resources, and the RS group identifier is included in the plurality of TCI state configurations.

[0108] In some embodiments, the association information comprises a list of RS resource IDs included in a TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations, in which the TCI state configuration is associated with a reference RS resource among the set of RS resources, and the list of RS resource IDs indicates RS resources among the set of RS resources excluding the reference RS resource.

[0109] In some embodiments, the association information comprises a plurality of lists of RS resource IDs included in the plurality of TCI state configurations, respectively, and for a first RS resource associated with a first TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI  state configurations, a list of RS resource IDs included in the first TCI state configuration indicates RS resources among the set of RS resources excluding the first RS resource.

[0110] In some embodiments, the association information comprises an RS resource ID of a reference RS resource among the set of RS resources, and the RS resource ID of the reference RS resource is included in the plurality of TCI state configurations. In some embodiments, the network device further transmits, to the terminal device, an indicator of whether the association information is active to identify the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources or the association information is to be ignored.

[0111] In some embodiments, the association information is included in at least one QCL information field in the at least one TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations. In some embodiments, the set of RS resources form an RS resource with a number of ports equal to the sum of the number of ports of all RS resources in the set of RS resources.

[0112] In some embodiments, an apparatus capable of performing any of operations of the method 600 (for example, the terminal device 120) may include means for performing the respective steps of the method 600. The means may be implemented in any suitable form. For example, the means may be implemented in a circuitry or software module.

[0113] In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for receiving a plurality of TCI state configurations associated with a plurality of reference signal (RS) resources, in which at least one TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations includes association information identifying the plurality of RS resources as a set of RS resources; and means for determining, based on the association information, the plurality of RS resources as the set of RS resources.

[0114] In some embodiments, the association information comprises an RS group identifier of the set of RS resources, and the RS group identifier is included in the plurality of TCI state configurations.

[0115] In some embodiments, the association information comprises a list of RS resource IDs included in a TCI state configuration among the plurality of TCI state configurations, in which the TCI state configuration is associated with a reference RS resource among the set of RS resources, and the list of RS resource IDs indicates RS resources among the set of RS resources excluding the reference RS resource.
