[0046] As used herein, the term "replicas" may refer to multiple instances of the same packet that are transmitted by a UE. The UE may transmit several replicas of the same packet to increase the probability of successful detection by the base station, especially in challenging radio conditions. In each of the instance, UE may transmit multiple repetitions of the same packet.

[0047] The "replica pattern" defines how and when these replicas are transmitted. It may include information on the timing and frequency resources used for each replica. Specifically, the replica pattern specifies the time intervals between the transmission of different replicas.

[0048] Principles and embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Reference is first made to Fig. 1A, which illustrates an example communication system 100 in which embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented. The system 100 includes a network device 110. The network device 110 serves area 130 (also called as cell 130) . The system 100 also includes one or more terminal devices, such as terminal devices 120, and 121. The terminal devices 120, 121 are capable of connecting and communicating in an UL and DL with the network device 110. In communication systems, an UL refers to a link in a direction from a terminal device to a network device, and a DL refers to a link in a direction from the network device to the terminal device.

[0049] It is to be understood that the number of network device and terminal devices is only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. The system 100 may include any suitable number of network device and terminal devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0050] Communications in the communication system 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) and the fifth generation (5G) and on the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future, such as the sixth generation (6G) .

[0051] Contention resolution diversity slotted aloha (CRDSA) is a scheme for uplink capacity enhancement. It can be applied to message 3 (msg3) or message 1 (msg1) of 4-step random access, as well as message A (msgA) of 2-step random access, or any other messages related to contention including direct msg3 transmission without prior msg1 / msg2. Direct msg3 transmission may also be referred to as transmission in preconfigured uplink resources.

[0052] In the CRDSA scheme, the terminal device may transmit at least two messages within the CRDSA transmission window according to a replica pattern. The network device may apply successive interference cancellation to subsequently recover the transmissions from multiple terminal devices. Fig. 1B illustrates an example of CRDSA scheme. As is shown in Fig. 1B, a network device will notice a collision between UE 1 and 2 in the first subframe, and another collision between UE 2 and 3 in the fourth subframe, which means none of the messages decode successfully. However, in the 5th subframe only UE 3 is transmitting. This enables the network device to decode the message and then as a next step recover the transmission from UE 2 in the previous subframe. Finally, the network can recover the transmission of UE 1 in the first subframe by cancelling the message from UE 2  in that subframe. Therefore, at time point t, packet1 / 2 / 3 from UE1 / 2 / 3 can be decoded successfully. For UE1, according to the replica pattern, it has the last opportunity to transmit the replica at the end of the CRDSA window. However, the last replica is not needed as the message is already decoded successfully.

[0053] If the network device can decode the packet successfully before the terminal device finishing all its uplink (UL) transmissions, it is beneficial if the network device can inform the terminal device to early terminate remaining UL transmissions of the terminal device. Since the terminal device can avoid the unnecessary remaining transmissions, power consumption of the terminal device as well as resource of the network device can be saved.

[0054] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution for replica transmission, especially for early termination of uplink transmission in a contention resolution diversity slotted aloha (CRDSA) window. In an aspect of the solution, a terminal device transmits part of multiple replicas of a replica pattern of a message. The terminal device starts or restarts, after the part of the multiple replicas, a first timer for monitoring for a response to the message. The terminal device monitors for the response before expiry of the first timer. This solution allows early UL transmission termination during the CRDSA window.

[0055] Reference is now made to Fig. 2, which shows a process 200 for replica transmission according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to Fig. 1A. The process 200 may involve the terminal device 120 and the network device 110 as illustrated in Fig. 1A.

[0056] At 210, the terminal device 120 transmits part of multiple replicas of a replica pattern of a message to the network device 110. Accordingly, the network device 110 receives the part of the multiple replicas.

[0057] In some embodiments, the message is a Msg1 in a 4-step random access and the response is a Msg2 in the 4-step random access, the message is a Msg3 in a 4-step random access and the response is a Msg4 in the 4-step random access, the message is a Msg3 in a direct Msg3 transmission procedure (i.e. without Msg1 and Msg2) and the response is a Msg4 in the direct Msg3 transmission procedure, or the message is a MsgA in a 2-step random access and the response is a MsgB in the 2-step random access. In some embodiments, the message may be an indication such as a scheduling downlink control information (DCI) on PDCCH.

[0058] In some embodiments, the replica pattern is determined by the terminal device 120 or configured by the network device 110. Based on the replica pattern, the terminal device 120 is aware of the number of the replicas to be transmitted in the CRDSA window, as well as the subframe locations in which the UL transmission would happen. In other words, the occurrence of UL transmissions is known by the terminal device 120.

[0059] At 220, the terminal device 120 starts or restarts, after the part of the multiple replicas, a first timer for monitoring for a response to the message. In some embodiments, the first timer may be named as early termination timer. In some embodiments, the message is a msg3, the first timer may be named as intermediate CR timer. In some embodiments, the message is a msg1, the first timer may be applied to Random Access Response window, in one example the first timer defines the end of the Radom Access Response window. In some embodiments, the message is a MsgA, the first timer may be applied to MsgB window. It would be understood that the first timer may be any timer for response monitoring after the message.

[0060] In some embodiments, the first timer is started or restarted in a first time unit after an end of every N replicas transmission of the multiple replica, and N is an integer greater than or equal to one. In some embodiments, the time unit may be a symbol, a slot or a subframe. In some embodiments, N = 1. In other words, the terminal device 120 can start or restart the first timer after each replica transmission. In this case, the terminal device 120 can receive the indication once the decode is done. In some embodiments, N equals a number larger than 1. In other words, the terminal device 120 can start or restart the first timer after some of the replica transmission. Alternatively, the terminal device 120 can start or restart the first timer every Nth replica. In a case where the time interval between 2 replica transmissions is short and the number of the replica transmissions is large, it is beneficial to reduce the restart number of the first timer so as to save energy.

[0061] In some embodiments, the time unit comprises symbol, slot or subframe.

[0062] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 receives configuration information for the N.

[0063] In some embodiments, the first timer is started or restarted in a first time unit after an end of every N replicas transmission of the multiple replica plus round trip time (RTT) between the terminal device 120 and the network device 110, and N is an integer greater than or equal to one.

[0064] At 230, the terminal device 120 monitors for the response before expiry of the first timer. At 240, the network device 110 determines whether the message is decoded successfully based on the part of the multiple replicas.

[0065] At 250, the network device 110 based on determining that the message is decoded successfully, transmits, to the terminal device 120, a response to the message. Accordingly, the terminal device 120 receives the response.

[0066] The network device 110 may decode the message successfully before the terminal device 120 finishing all its replica transmissions. In such case, the network device 110 may transmit the response to the terminal device 120 during the first timer to early terminate the replica transmission of the terminal device 120. The terminal device 120’s power consumption as well as the network resource can be saved.

[0067] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on determining that the first timer is not running, refrains from monitoring for the response. The terminal device 120’s power consumption can be saved.

[0068] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refrains from transmitting remaining part of the multiple replicas of the replica pattern of the message, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, stops monitoring for the response at the expiry of the first timer and continues to transmit next replica of the multiple replicas.

[0069] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, determines contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refrains from determining the contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as failed. In this case, the message is a Msg3.

[0070] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, determines Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refrains from determining the Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as failed. In this case, the message is a Msg1 or MsgB.

[0071] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on not receiving the response before a time point for starting a second timer, starts the second timer for monitoring for the response. In some embodiments, the message is a Msg3, the second timer may be named as  final CR timer or CR timer.

[0072] In some embodiments, the second timer and the first timer are the same timer. In some embodiments, the configuration for the first timer and the second timer are the same.

[0073] In some embodiments, the second timer and the first timer are the same timer but the timer length can be configured to different value.

[0074] In some embodiments, the time point is one of the following: at an end of a time window for transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern, at the end of the time window plus RTT between the terminal device and a network device, in a first time unit after an end of transmitting a last replica of the multiple replicas within the time window, or in a first time unit after an end of transmitting the last replica plus the RTT.

[0075] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determines contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determines the contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0076] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determines Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determines the Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0077] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 at least one of the following: receive first configuration information for a time window for transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern, receive second configuration information for the first timer, or receive third configuration information for the second timer.

[0078] In some embodiments, the second configuration information comprises N.

[0079] In some embodiments, a dedicated common search space may be defined for PUSCH transmission early termination within the CRDSA window. The network device 110 may consider the configured CRDSA window size, the cell load and the number of replicas within the window to configure the dedicated search space with less or frequent PDCCH occasions. The parameters to define the search space can be indicated to the terminal device 120 via SIB. The network device 110 may send UL DCI including UL hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) -acknowledgement (ACK) feedback or UL grant corresponding to a new transmission for early termination of PUSCH transmissions.

[0080] Fig. 3A illustrates an example of CR timer. As is shown in Fig. 3A, 6 UEs transmit replicas in a CRDSA transmission window of TDMA RA frame with Nslots. The CRDSA transmission window is an example of the time window. Each replica is transmitted in a RA slot. A UE2 transmits replicas in the first and the fourth RA slot. The UE2 start or restart an intermediate CR timer for UE2 after each replica transmission. The intermediate contention resolution (CR) timer is an example of the first timer. A final CR timer is started at the end of the time window if there was no contention resolution earlier. Alternatively, the final CR timer is started after the final transmission of the UE within the CRDSA transmission window. The final CR timer is an example of the second timer. This example allows early UL transmission termination (e.g., early terminate PUSCH replicas) during the window.

[0081] Alternatively, the UE may start / restart the intermediate CR timer after every n-th replicas. This applies to the case where the time interval between 2 replicas is short and the number of the replicas is large.

[0082] Alternatively, for system with large RTT between UE and BS (e.g., NTN system) , UE starts / restarts the intermediate CR timer after each transmission plus UE-BS RTT.

[0083] The intermediate CR timer should be started to control the UE’s PDCCH monitoring. If the intermediate CR timer is not started the UE will not monitor for the early termination indication (e.g. a scheduling DCI on PDCCH) .

[0084] The UE starts the final CR timer at the end of the CRDSA transmission window if there was no contention resolution earlier. The final CR timer may also be started after the final transmission of the UE within the CRDSA transmission window.

[0085] Alternatively, for system with large RTT between UE and BS (e.g., NTN system) , the UE restarts the final CR timer at the end of the CRDSA transmission window plus UE-BS RTT.

[0086] The UE may consider the contention resolved (i.e. a successful outcome) in the intermediate CR timer or the final CR timer, but a CR failure can only occur based on expiry of the final CR timer. This is different from current specification, where contention resolution and failure occur based on a normal CR timer, for example, a legacy CR timer.

[0087] Fig. 3B shows another example of the CR timer. UE starts a CR timer after the first transmission of the UE. The CR timer length is configured large enough to cover all replicas. UE2 starts a CR timer for UE2 after the first transmission of the UE2. UE3 starts a CR timer for UE3 after the first transmission of the UE3. Alternatively, for system with large RTT  between UE and BS (e.g., NTN system) , UE starts the timer after the first transmission plus UE-BS RTT. In one embodiment, the timer length is set as remaining time of the CRDSA transmission window plus the NW configured CR offset timer length. In some embodiments, the timer length may be configured in a way that the timer expiry at an offset relative to the end of the CRDSA window or be based on a duration relative to the time of the first / last transmission of the UE.

[0088] Fig. 3C shows another example of the CR timer. UE starts the CR timer after the end of the CRDSA window. This is simple and energy efficient. Alternatively, for system with large RTT between UE and BS (e.g., NTN system) , UE starts the timer after each transmission plus UE-BS RTT. As is shown in Fig. 3C, CR timer for each UE is started at the end of the CRDSA window.

[0089] It would be understood that although Fig. 3A –Fig. 3C illustrates examples for CR timer, it may apply to any other timer for response monitoring after the message.

[0090] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 is a half-duplex device. That is, when PDCCH subframes are fully or partially overlapped with PUSCH subframes for UL transmissions. In other words, there is a possible UL / DL collision. The terminal device 120 can only perform either downlink monitoring or uplink transmission. To facilitate the terminal device 120 to receive the DCI with an UL grant for PUSCH transmission early termination, the terminal device 120 shall monitor the PDCCH search space considering the potential UL transmissions (PUSCH transmissions of the replicas in the CRDSA) and DL (PDCCH occasion subframes) collisions. The terminal device 120 shall detect and handle the possible UL / DL collisions. To determine the actual UL transmission subframe (s) , the terminal device 120 may consider the Timing Advance (TA) estimated by the terminal device 120 for the corresponding UL transmission (s) . For a PDCCH occasion, the DL PDCCH subframes (including the repetition subframes for the PDCCH occasion) may be fully overlapped with the potential PUSCH transmissions and the possible UL / DL switch subframe / symbols (i.e., full overlap) . Alternatively, the DL PDCCH subframes may be partially overlapped with potential UL transmissions or within a certain time-domain distance of the UL transmissions (i.e. the DL occurs less than a threshold milliseconds / slots after the UL transmission is finished or vice versa) .

[0091] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 and / or the network device 110 determines, based on a prioritization rule, whether to transmit a replica of the multiple  replicas or monitor for the response based on determining a collision between the transmitting of the replica and the monitoring of the response. The collision may be a partial or full overlap in time, or that the Tx and Rx are within a certain time distance of each other.

[0092] In some embodiments, the prioritization rule comprises: prioritizing the monitoring of the response in a time window for transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern. This may enable early termination. In some embodiments, the time window may be a CRDSA window.

[0093] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the prioritization rule comprises: prioritizing transmitting of the replica in a first part of the time window, and prioritizing the monitoring of the response in a second part of the time window.

[0094] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the prioritization rule comprises: prioritizing the transmitting of the replica in the time window.

[0095] In some embodiments, the first part is based on at least one of (i) a number of replicas which have been transmitted by the terminal device or (ii) a time duration within the time window. In some embodiments, these two parameters may be configured by the network device 110. For example, the UE prioritizes to transmit the first 3 replicas after which it will prioritize monitoring for DL PDCCH in any subsequent collisions.

[0096] In some embodiments, the network device 110 transmits, to the terminal device 120, configuration information for configuring the at least one of the number of replicas or the time duration. Accordingly, the terminal device 120 receives the configuration information.

[0097] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 skips, based on prioritizing the transmitting of the replica, at least one PDCCH occasion for the monitoring of the response, and extends at least one of the first timer or the second timer by an extended value.

[0098] In some embodiments, the extended value is configured by the network device 110 or is equal to a time duration of the at least one skipped PDCCH occasion or a time duration of a replica transmission.

[0099] In some embodiments, the network device 110 determines that the terminal device is to prioritize the transmitting of the replica; and transmits, to the terminal device 120, scheduling information associated with a PDCCH occasion for the monitoring of the response which does not collide with the transmitting of the replica.

[0100] Fig. 4 illustrates a flowchart illustrating a process for prioritization. For the purpose  of discussion, Fig. 4 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 120 with reference to Fig. 1A. The process of Fig. 4 will be described with reference to Fig. 1A. The process may involve the terminal device 120 and the network device 110 as illustrated in Fig. 1A.

[0101] At 402, the network device 110 transmits Broadcast System Information to the terminal device 120. The Broadcast System Information includes CRDSA configuration.

[0102] For prioritization option 1, the terminal device 120 prioritizes downlink. At 404, the terminal device 120 transmits CRDSA transmission replica 1 to the network device 110. At 406, the terminal device 120 applies a collision rule to prioritize downlink reception. At 408, the terminal device 120 omits transmission of replica 2 because it collides with downlink monitoring. At 410, the terminal device 120 receives PDCCH DCI with UL grant for early termination. It would be understood that the replica 2 collides with the DCI.

[0103] For prioritization option 2, the terminal device 120 performs flexible prioritization. At 412, the terminal device 120 applies a collision rule to prioritize the first 2 replica transmissions. At 414, the terminal device 120 transmits CRDSA transmission replica 1. At 416, the terminal device 120 transmits CRDSA transmission replica 2. At 418, the terminal device 120 omits monitoring PDCCH because it collides with uplink transmission. It would be understood that the replica 2 collides with the PDCCH. At 420, the terminal device 120 switches to prioritize downlink reception. At 422, the terminal device 120 omits transmission of replica 3 because it collides with downlink monitoring. At 424, the terminal device 120 receives PDCCH DCI with UL grant for early termination. It would be understood that the replica 3 collides with the DCI.

[0104] Fig. 5 illustrates an example of prioritization. For downlink (DL) , there are two PDCCH occasions for UE1. For each of the PDCCH occasion, multiple PDCCH subframe repetition is required (e.g., for PDCCH coverage in NB-IoT) . In the PDCCH occasion#1, the UE1 can monitor DL PDCCH due to there is no potential UL transmissions. However, in PDCCH occasion#2, there is a partial overlap between UL and DL hence the half-duplex UE cannot operate in UL / DL simultaneously.

[0105] In this option, the DL prioritization is illustrated therefore the UE1 shall skip the UL transmission for this replica. Instead, UE1 shall monitor the PDCCH occasion#2 for a possible UL grant for early PUSCH termination.

[0106] In this case, the network device 110 may schedule the UE in PDCCH occasion#2  and terminate the remaining transmission for UE1 at the end of the CRDSA window.

[0107] Alternatively, the network device 110 may also be able to detect and handle the possible UL / DL collisions.

[0108] If the replica pattern is defined by the network device 110 and the network device 110 and the terminal device 120 have the common understanding on the subframes of UL transmissions, the network device 110 may predict the terminal device 120’s actual UL transmission subframes based on the terminal device 120’s Timing Advance (TA) . The TA may be estimated by the network device 110 from the received Msg3. Alternatively, the coarse TA can be reported from the terminal device 120 to the network device 110 when the terminal device 120 is in RRC Connected (i.e., before the terminal device 120 entering RRC idle / inactive and triggering the direct Msg3 transmission in CRDSA window) .

[0109] The network device 110 detects full or partial UL / DL overlap based on the predicted PUSCH transmission pattern and the PDCCH subframes for the PDCCH occasion.

[0110] If the terminal device 120’s behavior is defined as to prioritize PUSCH transmission, the network device 110 shall schedule the terminal device 120 in a PDCCH occasion which is not collided with any potential UL transmissions. This is to avoid the terminal device 120 missing the network scheduled UL DCI (and the early termination PUSCH transmissions) in the skipped PDCCH occasion.

[0111] Alternatively, there is an option for UL prioritization within the CRDSA window. If there is any overlap between subframes of a PDCCH occasion and UL transmission, including partial overlap or full overlap, the terminal device 120 shall prioritize the UL transmission and skip this PDCCH occasion for PDCCH monitoring. i.e., the terminal device 120 shall continue the UL transmissions in the subframes colliding with the subframes of the PDCCH occasion.

[0112] In some embodiments, if the replica pattern is defined by the network device 110 and the network device 110 and the terminal device 120 have the common understanding on the subframes of UL transmissions, the corresponding Contention Resolution timer (to keep the UE in DRX active time period for PDCCH monitoring) may need to be extended since some of the PDCCH monitoring opportunities was skipped by the terminal device 120. The extended value may be configured by the network device 110 or equals to the length of the skipped PDCCH occasion duration.

[0113] Fig. 6 illustrates another example of prioritization. The UL prioritization is  illustrated, therefore the terminal device 120 shall skip the DL PDCCH monitoring for this PDCCH occasion. Instead, the terminal device 120 shall continue the UL transmission. In this case, the network device 110 should avoid scheduling UE in PDCCH occasion#2 as well, since the terminal device 120 will not monitor PDCCH in this occasion.

[0114] Fig. 7 shows a flowchart of an example method 700 implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 700 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 120 with reference to Fig. 1A.

[0115] At block 710, the terminal device 120 transmits part of multiple replicas of a replica pattern of a message. At block 720, the terminal device 120 starts or restarts, after the part of the multiple replicas, a first timer for monitoring for a response to the message. At block 730, the terminal device 120 monitors for the response before expiry of the first timer.

[0116] In some embodiments, the first timer is started or restarted in a first time unit after an end of every N replicas transmission of the multiple replica. N is an integer greater than or equal to one.

[0117] In some embodiments, the time unit comprises symbol, slot or subframe.

[0118] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 receives configuration information for the N.

[0119] In some embodiments, the first timer is started or restarted in a first time unit after an end of every N replicas transmission of the multiple replica plus RTT between the terminal device 120 and the network device 110, wherein N is an integer greater than or equal to one.

[0120] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on determining that the first timer is not running, refrains from monitoring for the response.

[0121] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refrains from transmitting remaining part of the multiple replicas of the replica pattern of the message, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, stops monitoring for the response at the expiry of the first timer and continue to transmit next replica of the multiple replicas.

[0122] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, determines contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refrains  from determining the contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0123] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, determines Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refrains from determining the Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0124] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on not receiving the response before a time point for starting a second timer, starts the second timer for monitoring for the response.

[0125] In some embodiments, the second timer and the first timer are the same timer.

[0126] In some embodiments, the time point is one of the following: at an end of a time window for transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern, at the end of the time window plus RTT between the terminal device and a network device, in a first time unit after an end of transmitting a last replica of the multiple replicas within the time window; or in a first time unit after an end of transmitting the last replica plus the RTT.

[0127] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determines contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determines the contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0128] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determines Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determines the Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0129] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 at least one of the following: receive first configuration information for a time window for transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern, receive second configuration information for the first timer, or receive third configuration information for the second timer. In some embodiments, the second configuration information comprises N.

[0130] In some embodiments, the message is a Msg1 in a 4-step random access and the response is a Msg2 in the 4-step random access, the message is a Msg3 in a 4-step random access and the response is a Msg4 in the 4-step random access, or the message is a MsgA in a 2-step random access and the response is a MsgB in the 2-step random access.

[0131] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 is a half-duplex device, and the terminal device 120 determines, based on a prioritization rule, whether to transmit a replica of the multiple replicas or monitor for the response based on determining a collision between the transmitting of the replica and the monitoring of the response.

[0132] In some embodiments, the prioritization rule comprises at least one of: prioritizing the monitoring of the response in a time window for transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern, prioritizing transmitting of the replica in a first part of the time window, and prioritizing the monitoring of the response in a second part of the time window, or prioritizing the transmitting of the replica in the time window.

[0133] In some embodiments, the first part is based on at least one of (i) a number of replicas which have been transmitted by the terminal device or (ii) a time duration within the time window.

[0134] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 receives configuration information for configuring the at least one of the number of replicas or the time duration.

[0135] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 skips, based on prioritizing the transmitting of the replica, at least one PDCCH occasion for the monitoring of the response, and extends at least one of the first timer or the second timer by an extended value.

[0136] In some embodiments, the extended value is configured by the network device 110 or is equal to a time duration of the at least one skipped PDCCH occasion or a time duration of a replica transmission.

[0137] Fig. 8 shows a flowchart of an example method 800 implemented at a network device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 800 will be described from the perspective of the network device 120 with reference to Fig. 1A.

[0138] At block 810, the network device 110 receives, from the terminal device 120, part of multiple replicas of a replica pattern of a message. At block 820, the network device 110 determines whether the message is decoded successfully based on the part of the multiple replicas. At block 830, the network device 110 based on determining that the message is decoded successfully, transmits, to the terminal device 120, a response to the message.

[0139] In some embodiments, the network device 110 at least one of the following: transmits, to the terminal device 120, first configuration information for a time window for  transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern; transmits, to the terminal device 120, second configuration information for a first timer; or transmits, to the terminal device 120, third configuration information for a second timer.

[0140] In some embodiments, the second configuration information comprises N.

[0141] In some embodiments, the first timer is started or restarted in a first time unit after an end of every N replicas transmission of the multiple replica, wherein N is an integer greater than or equal to one.

[0142] In some embodiments, the time unit comprises symbol, slot or subframe.

[0143] In some embodiments, the first timer is started or restarted in a first time unit after an end of every N replicas transmission of the multiple replica plus RTT between the terminal device and a network device, wherein N is an integer greater than or equal to one.

[0144] In some embodiments, the second timer is started at a time point which is one of the following: at an end of a time window for receiving the multiple replicas of the replica pattern; at the end of the time window plus RTT between the terminal device 120 and the network device 110; after a last replica of the multiple replicas within the time window; or after the last replica plus the RTT.

[0145] In some embodiments, the second timer and the first timer are the same timer.

[0146] In some embodiments, the message is a Msg1 in a 4-step random access and the response is a Msg2 in the 4-step random access; the message is a Msg3 in a 4-step random access and the response is a Msg4 in the 4-step random access, or the message is a MsgA in a 2-step random access and the response is a MsgB in the 2-step random access.

[0147] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 is a half-duplex device, and the network device 110 determines, based on a prioritization rule, whether the terminal device 120 is to transmit a replica of the multiple replicas or monitor for the response in case of a collision between the transmitting of the replica and the monitoring of the response.

[0148] In some embodiments, the prioritization rule comprises at least one of: prioritizing the monitoring of the response in a time window for transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern; prioritizing transmitting of the replica in a first part of the time window, and prioritizing the monitoring of the response in a second part of the time window; or prioritizing the transmitting of the replica in the time window.

[0149] In some embodiments, the first part is based on at least one of (i) a number of replicas  which have been transmitted by the terminal device or (ii) a time duration within the time window.

[0150] In some embodiments, the network device 110 transmits, to the terminal device 120, configuration information for configuring the at least one of the number of replicas or the time duration.

[0151] In some embodiments, the network device 110 determines that the terminal device is to prioritize the transmitting of the replica; and transmits, to the terminal device 120, scheduling information associated with a PDCCH occasion for the monitoring of the response which does not collide with the transmitting of the replica.

[0152] In some embodiments, an apparatus capable of performing any of the method 700 (for example, the terminal device 120) may comprise means for performing the respective steps of the method 700. The means may be implemented in any suitable form. For example, the means may be implemented in a circuitry or software module.

[0153] In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises means for transmitting part of multiple replicas of a replica pattern of a message; means for starting or restarting, after the part of the multiple replicas, a first timer for monitoring for a response to the message; and means for monitoring for the response before expiry of the first timer.

[0154] In some embodiments, the first timer is started or restarted in a first time unit after an end of every N replicas transmission of the multiple replica. N is an integer greater than or equal to one.

[0155] In some embodiments, the time unit comprises symbol, slot or subframe.

[0156] In some embodiments, the first timer is started or restarted in a first time unit after an end of every N replicas transmission of the multiple replica plus RTT between the terminal device 120 and the network device 110, wherein N is an integer greater than or equal to one.

[0157] In some embodiments, the apparatus further comprises means for based on determining that the first timer is not running, refraining from monitoring for the response.

[0158] In some embodiments, the apparatus further comprises means for based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refraining from transmitting remaining part of the multiple replicas of the replica pattern of the message, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, stopping monitoring for the response at the expiry of the first timer and continue to transmit next replica of the multiple replicas.

[0159] In some embodiments, the apparatus further comprises means for based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, determining contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refraining from determining the contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0160] In some embodiments, the apparatus further comprises means for based on receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, determining Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the first timer, refraining from determining the Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0161] In some embodiments, the terminal device 120 based on not receiving the response before a time point for starting a second timer, starts the second timer for monitoring for the response.

[0162] In some embodiments, the second timer and the first timer are the same timer.

[0163] In some embodiments, the time point is one of the following: at an end of a time window for transmitting the multiple replicas of the replica pattern, at the end of the time window plus RTT between the terminal device and a network device, in a first time unit after an end of transmitting a last replica of the multiple replicas within the time window; or in a first time unit after an end of transmitting the last replica plus the RTT.

[0164] In some embodiments, the apparatus further comprises means for based on receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determining contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determining the contention resolution for the terminal device 120 as failed.

[0165] In some embodiments, the apparatus further comprises means for based on receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determining Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as successful, or based on not receiving the response before expiry of the second timer, determining the Random Access Response for the terminal device 120 as failed.
