[0034] The disclosure will now be described more specifically with reference to the following embodiments. It is to be noted that the following descriptions of some embodiments are presented herein for purpose of illustration and description only. It is not intended to be exhaustive or to be limited to the precise form disclosed.
[0035] The slide roll mechanism leverages the flexible characteristics of the flexible display panel to design a linkage mechanism, allowing the flexible display panel to extend from the bottom to a vertical (or other angled) position, achieving storage and concealment of the flexible display panel. The ratio between the retracted size and the expanded size of the slide roll display is called the expansion ratio. The larger the expansion ratio, the greater the hidden space for the flexible display panel, and the better the effect. Existing slide roll mechanisms for flexible display panels have a maximum expansion ratio of 1: 2. These mechanisms often encounter issues such as uneven tension distribution and lack of adequate support during expansion, leading to display quality degradation and structural instability.
[0036] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram illustrating the structure of a related display apparatus. Referring to FIG. 1, the related display apparatus is configured to transition between a first configuration in which the flexible display panel is retracted to a first position and a second configuration in which the flexible display panel is extended to a second position. The display apparatus includes a movable assembly MA, a fixed assembly FA, and a flexible display panel DP mounted in part on the movable assembly and in part on the fixed assembly FA. The display apparatus further includes a tensioning strip TS connected to the flexible display panel DP, forming a closed-loop tensioning system. The tensioning strip TS is attached to (e.g., wrapped around) a fixed shaft FS in the fixed assembly FA and attached to (e.g., wrapped around) a movable shaft MS in the movable assembly MA. The display apparatus further includes a driving motor DM configured to drive the movable assembly MA, e.g., horizontally. When the driving motor DM drives the display apparatus from the first configuration to the second configuration, the movable shaft MS approaches the fixed shaft FS, but cannot surpass it. If the movable shaft MS surpasses the fixed shaft FS, the tensioning strip TS separates from the movable shaft MS, losing its pulley function, and the tensioning force fails.
[0037] The display apparatus according to the present disclosure overcomes the limitations of existing mechanisms by introducing a high expansion ratio (greater than 1: 2, such as 1: 3 or 1: 4) slide roll mechanism. The display apparatus according to the present disclosure uses a slide roll mechanism to achieve a high expansion ratio, ensuring efficient utilization and storage of display apparatus. This mechanism utilizes a multi-tiered tensioning system and a multi-comb support structure to ensure uniform tension distribution and continuous support during expansion and retraction of the display apparatus.
[0038] The display apparatus according to the present disclosure includes multiple tensioning units arranged in series. Each tensioning unit applies a uniform tension force across the flexible display panel during both expansion and retraction. This uniform tension distribution minimizes the occurrence of creases, ensuring a smooth and high-quality display surface. The display apparatus according to the present disclosure further includes a support structure. The support structure features multiple comb-like elements that move synchronously with the flexible display panel. These elements provide continuous and stable support to the flexible display panel, preventing any deflection or sagging. The support structure ensures that the flexible display panel remains flat and free of pressure voids during full expansion.
[0039] The inventors of the present disclosure discover that the slide roll mechanism according to the present disclosure achieve an expansion ratio greater than 1: 2, such as 1: 3 or 1: 4. This allows the flexible display panel to be stored in a more compact form factor when retracted and expanded to a larger size when in use, maximizing the available display area. The mechanism includes a feature that allows the display module to be stopped at any intermediate position between fully retracted and fully expanded states. This functionality provides flexibility in adjusting the display size according to the content being shown, enhancing user experience and adaptability.
[0040] Accordingly, the present disclosure provides, inter alia, a display panel apparatus that substantially obviate one or more of the problems due to limitations and disadvantages of the related art.
