Description

[0001] Pillow body with fragrance insert and ventilation channels

[0002] The invention relates to a pillow comprising a pillow body having ventilation channels, wherein the pillow body has a first and a second pillow part which can be laid on top of each other in a substantially planar fashion.

[0003] It is well known that good sleep is one of the most important factors for good health. It is also generally accepted that the sense of smell influences sleep. For example, aromatherapy with certain scents can promote better sleep, make waking up in the morning easier, and even encourage more positive dreams.

[0004] From WO2016161499A1, a pillow is known that comprises a pillow body with three pillow sections. The two upper pillow sections are impregnated with a fragrance and thus form the scent-emitting elements. This pillow body also has ventilation channels that permeate all pillow sections and therefore the entire pillow body. The ventilation channels are intended to increase sleeping comfort by improving air circulation between the front and back of the pillow.

[0005] US9357851B2 shows a pillow with ventilation channels, the pillow being made of foam, the foam of which contains green tea.

[0006] A previous technology describes a sleeping pillow in which a fragrance insert is placed between two pillow bodies. This stack of pillows can be placed on an outer cover that is open on three sides, which is then closed to make the sleeping pillow ready for use. Such a sleeping pillow is disclosed in international design DM / 221485.

[0007] Such a "sandwich construction," in which the fragrance insert is sandwiched between two pillow layers, has several disadvantages. In particular, the fragrance is difficult to disperse, which is why the side edges of the cover can be designed as breathable mesh. However, this means the fragrance only escapes laterally and reaches the person lying on the pillow indirectly. Furthermore, movement during sleep can cause the inner components of the pillow to shift, potentially shifting the fragrance insert to one side. This is not only uncomfortable for the person sleeping on it but can also impede fragrance release. Another fragrance-releasing pillow is known from US Patent 2009 / 173425. This design uses a flat liner that encloses the fragrance. The liner has an adhesive layer on one side, allowing it to be glued to a pillow body. A cover can then be slid over the pillow body with the liner attached.

[0008] KR 20220145071 A discloses a cushion with a rigid, frame-like element. KR 200241279 Y1 shows a cushion formed by two shells made of synthetic resin. CN 107348770 A discloses a wooden cushion. These cushions have in common that a fragrance can be contained within them. CN 110025178 A discloses a cushion with two foam parts, between which so-called "loofah springs" are embedded as spring elements that release a natural fragrance.

[0009] The object of the invention is to provide a fragrance-dispensing pillow in which the aforementioned problems do not occur.

[0010] This problem is solved by a pillow comprising a pillow body having ventilation channels, wherein the pillow body has a first and a second pillow part which are substantially planar and can be placed on top of each other, wherein the pillow further comprises a fragrance insert, wherein the fragrance insert in the assembled state of the pillow is positioned between the pillow parts such that it is spaced away from all sides (i.e. outer sides) of the pillow and is entirely inside the pillow, and wherein at least one of the ventilation channels connects the fragrance insert to an outer side of the pillow.

[0011] Furthermore, the first and second cushion sections are made of foam, and the two sections lie directly on top of each other in a ring-shaped area around the fragrance insert. Within this ring-shaped area, the two cushions preferably lie flat against each other; that is, there are no steps or similar features. This allows the interface between the flat surfaces to be easily created by a cutting process.

[0012] According to the invention, a pillow body with ventilation channels is used; however, at least some of the ventilation channels are not used as intended for air circulation between the front and back, but rather for a transport path between the fragrance insert and the front and / or back of the pillow body. This results in a particularly efficient fragrance release to the front and back of the pillow, without the need for fragrance release via meshes in the side surfaces of the pillow, as in the aforementioned "sandwich construction".

[0013] Another advantage of the pillow according to the invention is that the perspiration of a person lying on the pillow does not pass unhindered through the ventilation channels of the pillow, for example onto a mattress underneath. The fragrance insert can, for example, contain antibacterial natural products such as lavender or other herbs, so that the perspiration in the pillow comes into contact with the fragrance insert, is filtered and dried there, and then escapes to the outside together with essential oils. This can noticeably contribute to an increased sense of well-being for a person lying on the pillow.

[0014] Regarding the revelations in WO2016161499A1 and US9357851B2, it should be noted that although fragrant pillow bodies with ventilation channels are shown there, the pillow bodies are directly soaked with the fragrance and it was not recognized that the ventilation channels could be "repurposed" to create a transport route from the inside of the pillow to the outside.

[0015] The feature that the two pillow sections lie directly against each other in a ring-shaped area around the fragrance insert ensures that the fragrance insert, and therefore the fragrance itself, is contained within the pillow body and can only escape through the ventilation channels. If, on the other hand, a side opening were provided in the pillow, the fragrance would also escape laterally and thus would not be directed towards the user.

[0016] The solutions mentioned also work if the two pillow parts have flat surfaces that are to be placed next to each other with the fragrance insert in between. In this case, the pillow parts will deform slightly. However, to further increase the pillow's comfort, the first pillow part can be provided with a recess that is spaced on all sides from one edge of the first pillow part. The fragrance insert can be placed in the recess and, when the pillow is assembled, is closed by the second pillow part. The recess is thus specifically designed for the fragrance insert; that is, the fragrance insert preferably has a size that corresponds essentially to the size of the recess. As a result, the pillow according to the invention, when assembled, offers essentially the same comfort as a regular pillow, but with the added benefit of fragrance release.Furthermore, the second pillow section can also have a recess that is spaced on all sides from one edge of the second pillow section. The two recesses are designed to be complementary to each other, so that the two recesses lie directly on top of each other when the pillow is assembled. This allows the recesses to be made with a shallower depth than if only one recess were provided, which further increases sleeping comfort.

[0017] However, the two recesses do not have to be perfectly aligned, for example if one recess is larger than the other or if the recesses are intended to hold different fragrance inserts.

[0018] Particularly preferred are the ventilation channels, which are essentially cylindrical and run parallel to each other, preferably perpendicular to a plane where the cushion parts meet in their assembled state. This ventilation channel enables particularly good distribution of the fragrance.

[0019] In one embodiment of the invention, the ventilation channels run through only one of the cushion parts, which is sufficient to transport the fragrance from the fragrance insert to the front of the cushion. Preferably, however, both cushion parts have ventilation channels, so that the fragrance insert, when assembled, is connected to two opposite outer surfaces of the cushion. This has the advantage that the fragrance can be transported to both the front and the back. Furthermore, the ventilation channels can connect directly to each other in the area where the fragrance insert is not present, thus restoring at least some of the original function of the ventilation channels to achieve air circulation.

[0020] In a preferred embodiment, the first pillow part can be connected to the second pillow part and / or the fragrance insert via a hook-and-loop fastener. In this embodiment, the two pillow parts are connected to each other and / or the first pillow part to the fragrance insert, so that the pillow can also be used without a cover and the fragrance can better reach a person lying on the pillow. Furthermore, in those embodiments of the pillow that do not have a recess, this prevents the fragrance insert from unintentionally slipping within the pillow body.

[0021] However, such a hook-and-loop fastener is not strictly necessary. In an alternative embodiment, a cover can be used that can accommodate the first pillow section, the second pillow section, and the fragrance insert. In this embodiment, the cover ensures sufficient cohesion of the pillow.

[0022] The ventilation channels can have a uniform dimension. However, it is preferred that the ventilation channels comprise first and second ventilation channels, with the cross-section of the first ventilation channels being larger than that of the second ventilation channels. In other words, a greater volume of air can flow through the first ventilation channels than through the second ventilation channels in a given time period. This results in a stronger fragrance in those areas of the pillow that have the first ventilation channels.

[0023] In particular, the first ventilation channels can be located essentially in the center of the front and / or back of the pillow. Alternatively, only the first pillow section or only the second pillow section can have the first ventilation channels. In this case, a person lying on the pillow can choose how much fragrance is released towards them by adjusting the pillow's position.

[0024] Preferably, the fragrance insert is essentially a flat surface, so that the user of the pillow does not perceive it as a foreign object. This also makes it possible to have no cutout or only a shallow cutout in the pillow.

[0025] Preferably, the fragrance insert has at least one fragrance pocket for filling with a fragrance carrier material, wherein the at least one fragrance pocket is preferably formed by an upper textile and a lower textile. Alternatively, the fragrance insert can be defined as preferably having an upper textile and a lower textile that form at least one fragrance pocket. This allows for the formation of a fragrance insert with a maximum surface area, which also enables easy replacement of the fragrance carrier material, particularly if there is at least one opening and preferably also a closable side between the upper and lower textiles.

[0026] Preferably, a fragrance carrier material is present in the fragrance insert, preferably between the upper and lower textile layers. The fragrance carrier material is preferably chamomile, lavender, or Swiss pine.

[0027] To manufacture the pillow, the pillow parts can, for example, be produced separately. However, it is preferred if they are manufactured as a single pillow part in a single manufacturing step, and the pillow body is then divided into two parts. In this case, the invention provides a method for manufacturing a pillow, wherein the pillow comprises a pillow body having ventilation channels, wherein the pillow body has a first and a second pillow part that can be placed on top of each other in a substantially planar fashion, wherein the pillow further comprises a fragrance insert, wherein the fragrance insert, in the assembled state of the pillow, is positioned between the pillow parts such that it is spaced from all sides (outer sides) of the pillow and is completely inside the pillow, and wherein at least one of the ventilation channels connects the fragrance insert to an outer side of the pillow.Preferably, the first and second pillow sections are made of foam and / or the two pillow sections lie directly on top of each other in a ring-shaped area around the fragrance insert. The process comprises the following steps:

[0028] - Providing the pillow body, in which the first pillow part and the second pillow part are formed in one piece;

[0029] Separating the pillow body into the first pillow part and the second pillow part, preferably by means of a cutting process;

[0030] - Inserting the fragrance insert between the first and second pillow sections. This method has the advantage that existing pillow bodies can be used and cut into two parts, so that the arrangement according to the invention can also be used with existing pillows.

[0031] The separation process, similar to a cutting process, typically creates complementary flat surfaces on the cushion parts (into which a recess can be incorporated, for example, by milling). When the fragrance insert is placed between these complementary flat surfaces, the cushion parts lie on top of each other in a ring-shaped area around the fragrance insert, and the fragrance from the insert escapes only through the ventilation channels. Within this ring-shaped area, the separation process usually results in the cushion parts lying perfectly flat against each other, i.e., with perfectly level surfaces.

[0032] In a preferred embodiment, where the cushion is also to have recesses for the fragrance insert, the method may include the step of milling the recess(s) out of the cushion parts. However, the recesses may also be produced differently, particularly if the cushion parts are manufactured separately, in which case the recesses can be formed during the molding of the cushion part. Preferably, the ventilation channels comprise both first and second ventilation channels, with one cross-section of the first ventilation channels being larger than the cross-section of the second ventilation channels. In this case, the method may include the step of widening the first ventilation channels.

[0033] Advantageous and non-restrictive embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the figures.

[0034] Figure 1 shows a part of a cushion according to the invention in a schematic perspective view.

[0035] Figure 2 shows a schematic sectional view of the cushion according to the invention in a first variant.

[0036] Figure 3 shows a schematic top view of the cushion from Figure 2.

[0037] Figure 4 shows a schematic sectional view of the cushion according to the invention in a second variant.

[0038] Figure 5 shows a schematic top view of the cushion from Figure 4.

[0039] Figure 6 shows a fragrance insert in a first variant in a top view.

[0040] Figure 7 shows the fragrance insert of Figure 6 in a sectional view.

[0041] Figure 8 shows a fragrance insert in a second variant in a top view.

[0042] Figure 1 shows a pillow 1, which may comprise a pillow body 2, a fragrance insert 6 (see Figures 2 to 8), and optionally one or more covers for the pillow body 2. The pillow body 2, in turn, comprises a first pillow part 3 and a second pillow part 4. The pillow parts 3 and 4 lie directly adjacent to one another, and one of the pillow parts 3 and 4 forms a front side V and the other a back side R. The front side V and / or back side R can be flat, as shown in Figure 1, curved, as shown in Figure 2, or have another shape, e.g., a wave shape for ergonomic neck support of a person lying on the pillow 1.

[0043] The first cushion section 3 and the second cushion section 4 are not joined together as a single unit, but are separable. In the version shown in Figure 1, the first cushion section 3 is taller than the second cushion section 4. However, this is not mandatory, as cushion sections 3 and 4 can also be the same size and generally symmetrical to each other.

[0044] In practice, the cushion body 2 can be manufactured, in particular, by providing a one-piece cushion body 2 that is cut into two cushion parts 3 and 4. The cut surface is the surface where the cushion parts 3 and 4 were cut and can be rejoined. Alternatively, the cushion parts 3 and 4 can be manufactured separately from each other, so that a cutting process is not necessary.

[0045] The first pillow section 3 and / or the second pillow section 4 are preferably made of foam, e.g., PU foam (polyurethane foam), cold foam, viscoelastic foam, latex foam, or HR foam (high resilience foam). If the first pillow section 3 and the second pillow section 4 were manufactured by cutting a single pillow body 2, they will be made of the same material.

[0046] As further shown, the cushion body 2 has two ventilation channels 5 that extend from the front V to the back R, thus passing through the cushion body 2. The ventilation channels 5 are each straight and parallel to each other. It can be seen that the ventilation channels 5 are arranged in a grid, preferably in a rectangular grid. The ventilation channels 5 each have a diameter that is, for example, between 1 mm and 1 cm.

[0047] Both the first cushion part 3 and the second cushion part 4 can have ventilation channels 5 so that these extend from the front V to the back R when the first cushion part 3 is placed congruently on top of the second cushion part 4. Alternatively, only the first cushion part 3 or the second cushion part 4 can have ventilation channels 5. In this case, the ventilation channels 5 extend from the front V or back R to the other cushion part 3, 4, which does not have ventilation channels 5.

[0048] Figure 2 shows that a fragrance insert 6 is provided in the pillow 1 to release fragrance to the outside. The released fragrance can be particularly sleep-promoting, for example, if a fragrance carrier material such as chamomile, lavender, or Swiss pine is present in the fragrance insert 6. Exemplary designs of the fragrance insert are explained in more detail below in connection with Figures 5 to 7.

[0049] The fragrance insert 6 is essentially planar, meaning it has a significantly greater length and width than height. This is not contradicted by the fact that fragrance carrier material is stored within the fragrance insert 6, although this material has a considerably smaller thickness compared to the insert's length and width. The fragrance insert 6 can, for example, contain antibacterial natural products such as lavender or other herbs as fragrance carrier material. The perspiration of a person lying on the pillow 1 can thus penetrate the pillow 1 through the ventilation channels 5, encounter the fragrance insert 6, be filtered and dried, and then escape to the outside along with essential oils. This can noticeably contribute to the increased well-being of a person lying on the pillow 1.

[0050] As shown in Figure 2, the fragrance insert 6 can be placed between the first pillow part 3 and the second pillow part 4. In other words, when the pillow 1 is assembled, the fragrance insert 6 is located between the first pillow part 3 and the second pillow part 4.

[0051] The pillow 1 may have a hook-and-loop fastener (not shown), whereby the first pillow part 3 can be connected to the second pillow part 4 and / or the fragrance insert 6 via a hook-and-loop fastener. This can prevent the fragrance insert from unintentionally slipping inside the pillow. Furthermore, the hook-and-loop fastener can hold the first pillow part 3, the second pillow part 4, and / or the fragrance insert 6 together, so that the pillow can also be used without a cover and the fragrance can be better released to a person lying on the pillow.

[0052] Figure 3 shows that the fragrance insert 6, viewed in the plane of section between the first and second pillow parts 3, 4, has a smaller length and width than the pillow body 2. That is, viewed from the front V to the back R, the fragrance insert 6 can be placed between the first pillow part 3 and the second pillow part 4 in such a way that the fragrance insert 6 is completely enclosed within both pillow parts 3, 4. In other words, the fragrance insert 6 is spaced from all sides of the pillow 1 and lies entirely inside the pillow 1.

[0053] Since the fragrance insert 6 is essentially flat, and the pillow parts 3, 4 are made of foam, the pillow parts 3, 4 will accommodate the fragrance insert 6 without significantly altering the outer shape or sleeping comfort of the pillow 1. Furthermore, because the fragrance insert 6 is smaller than the pillow parts 3, 4, the two pillow parts 3, 4 will lie directly against each other in a ring-shaped area around the fragrance insert 6. As a result, the pillow parts 3, 4 are in direct contact on the outside of the pillow body 2, and the pillow body 2 appears as if it were an unmodified pillow body 2. A key feature is that the ventilation channels 5 in the pillow 1 of Figure 2 provide a direct pathway for fragrance from the fragrance insert 6 to the front V and the back R. If the ventilation channels 5 are present in only one of the pillow parts 3, 4, the fragrance from the fragrance insert 6 is only transported to either the front V or the back R.

[0054] It is also evident that at least one of the ventilation channels 5 connects the fragrance insert 6 to an outer surface (i.e., front V and / or back R) of the cushion 1. Other ventilation channels 5 may also connect the front V to the back R to improve overall air circulation.

[0055] The ventilation channels 5 in Fig. 3 have essentially the same diameter. However, it is also possible for the ventilation channels to comprise first and second ventilation channels, with one cross-section of the first ventilation channels being larger than the cross-section of the second ventilation channels. This allows more air to flow through the first ventilation channels, which can make the fragrance more noticeable in a section of the first ventilation channels.

[0056] Figure 4 shows that both the first pillow section 3 and the second pillow section 4 can have a recess 7. Alternatively, only one of the pillow sections 3, 4 could have a recess 7. The two recesses 7 are designed to accommodate the fragrance insert 6. In other words, the two recesses together (or the single recess) have a depth that essentially corresponds to the height of the fragrance insert. In this version, the fragrance insert can also be somewhat thicker (but preferably still essentially flat) without noticeably altering the outer shape or sleeping comfort of the pillow 1.

[0057] The recesses 7 are usually milled into the cushion parts 3, 4 or into one of the cushion parts 3, 4. Alternatively, these could be manufactured into the cushion parts 3, 4 during their production.

[0058] Figure 5 shows that the recess 7 is shaped such that an annular area exists around it, allowing the two cushion parts 3 and 4 to rest flush against each other. The shape of the recess(s) 7 is essentially arbitrary and could be rectangular instead of rectangular, for example oval or round, and preferably adapted to the shape of the fragrance insert 6. In the illustrated variants, only one recess 7 is shown; however, two or more separate recesses 7, each capable of holding a fragrance insert 6, could also be present. Furthermore, several fragrance inserts 6 could be placed in one recess 7 (or, as in Figures 2 and 3, several fragrance inserts 6 could be placed side by side).

[0059] Figures 6, 7 and 8 reveal two variants of the fragrance insert 6 that can be used in the present invention. It is understood, however, that further variants of the fragrance insert 6 could also be provided.

[0060] Figure 6 shows a top view of the fragrance insert 6, revealing that it comprises an array of fragrance pockets 40, each of which can be filled with a fragrance carrier material such as chamomile, lavender, or Swiss pine. Typically, the fragrance pockets are filled with a loose material such as shavings, which constitute the fragrance carrier material. To make the filling softer, the fragrance carrier material can also be mixed with another material such as cotton wool, wool, or plastic beads within the respective fragrance pocket 40. Alternatively, a non-woven fabric could be present in the fragrance pocket 40, essentially the size of the interior of the fragrance pocket 40 and containing the fragrance carrier material. All of these fillings can be used independently of the specific design of the fragrance insert 6.

[0061] Figure 7 shows the fragrance insert 6 of Figure 6 in a side view. It can be seen that this fragrance insert 6 consists of an upper textile 41 and a lower textile 42. The upper textile 41 and the lower textile are sewn together on two opposite sides Z and topstitched both lengthwise and widthwise using quilting stitches 43. This creates several fragrance pockets 40, each accessible through external openings. A zipper can be provided on each of these external openings to allow the fragrance pockets 40 to be closed. This enables the fragrance carrier material to be replaceable by the end user in the fragrance pockets 40. However, the fragrance pockets 40 could also be permanently closed.

[0062] Figure 8 shows a variant of the fragrance insert 3 from Figure 6, in which the upper textile 41 and the lower textile 42 are sewn together on all four sides. Furthermore, three quilted seams 43 are provided parallel to the length of the fragrance insert 6. A zipper (ZV) is provided centrally along the length and parallel to the width, through which the fragrance pockets 40 separated by the quilted seams 43 are made accessible. It is understood that the fragrance insert 6 can also have any number of fragrance pockets 40, in particular only one fragrance pocket 40 (formed, for example, by an upper textile 41 and a lower textile 42, which are permanently closed all around on all four sides or on three sides) or two or more fragrance pockets 40, which are formed by means of the aforementioned quilted seams and / or zippers.
