[0058] In some example embodiments, if the terminal device 110 is a terminal device and the network device 120 is a network device, a link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the network device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the terminal device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0059] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication  protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0060] In some example embodiments, the communication environment 100 is an NTN network including one or more satellites. In some example embodiments, an access network device (such as, a gNB) may be deployed at a satellite, also referred to as a regenerative architecture. Alternatively, in some example embodiments, an access network device may be deployed separately from the satellite, such as, deployed on the ground, also referred to as transparent architecture. In the present disclosure, according to the specific application scenario or requirements, either or both of the satellite and the access network device may be considered as the second apparatus 120. A terminal device in the NTN network may be considered as the first apparatus 110. Embodiments of the present discourse is not limited in this regard.

[0061] Enhancements of IoT-NTN may include the objective on support of capacity enhancements for uplink, for example, enhancements to enable multiplexing of multiple UEs (e.g. up to the min of 4 and the maximum allowed by the existing UL and DL signaling) in a single 3.75 kHz or 15 kHz subcarrier via orthogonal cover codes (OCC) for NPUSCH format 1 and Narrowband Physical Random Access Channel (NPRACH) . Meanwhile, multi-tone support for 15 kHz SCS may be considered, necessary signaling (s) may be specified, if needed, and RF requirements may be updated accordingly, if needed.

[0062] The following enhancements may be also studied to reduce the necessary uplink and downlink signaling to complete an Early Data Transmission (EDT) transaction, for example, Msg3 transmission without Msg1 (e.g. Random Access Preamble)  / Msg2 (e.g. Random Access Response (RAR) ) , efficient delivery (reduced overhead) of Msg4 (e.g. RRCEarlyDataComplete) , and so on. Study is made on contention-based Msg3 transmission to complete an EDT-like transaction. The discussion is continued on Diversity Slotted ALOHA (DSA) and Contention Resolution Diversity Slotted Aloha (CRDSA) for Msg3-EDT transmissions without Msg1 / RAR. The DSA approach may be used for transmission of RACH preamble replicas.

[0063] FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram 200 of example transmissions with replicas. As shown in FIG. 2, a frame for a time division multiple access (TDMA) random  access (RA) process is illustrated. In the embodiment of FIG. 2, the frame may include a plurality of RA slots. For each frame, there may be one or more replicas (201, 202, 203, 204, 205) transmitted.

[0064] Specifically, the embodiment of FIG. 2 may involve diversity slotted ALOHA (DSA) and / or contention resolution diversity slotted ALOHA (CRDSA) . In CRDSA, the term "replicas" may refer to multiple instances of the same packet that are transmitted by a UE. The UE may transmit several replicas of the same packet to increase the probability of successful detection by the base station, especially in challenging radio conditions.

[0065] Multiple replicas may help ensure that at least one copy of the packet is received and detected by the base station, even if some are lost due to fading or interference. In the meanwhile, coverage enhancement may be achieved. By repeating the packet, the UE may improve its chances of being heard (i.e. the packet is properly received and decoded by the base station) , which is particularly important for the case where signal strength might be weak.

[0066] The transmission of the replicas may be indicated by resource information on the time and frequency resources used for each replica. Specifically, in one example, the resource information may specify the time intervals between the transmission of different replicas. In another example, the resource information may also define the frequency resources for related replicas, where each replica may be transmitted using different frequency resources to reduce the impact of frequency-selective fading.

[0067] In the example shown in FIG. 2, the replicas 201 and 202 are both labeled “3” , which indicates that a packet labeled “3” is to be transmitted repeatedly by using the replicas 201 and 202. Similarly, the replica 203 is a repetition of a packet labeled “1” and the replicas 204 and 205 are repetitions of a packet labeled “2” .

[0068] The resource information for replicas may indicate how and when the replicas shown in FIG. 2 are transmitted. For example, resource information associated with the replicas 201 and 202 corresponding to the packet labeled “3” indicates that they are to be transmitted in adjacent RA slots, and resource information associated with replicas 204 and 205 corresponding to a different packet labeled “2” indicates that they are to be transmitted in different RA slots from the RA slots associated with the replica 202, but in the same frequency resources as the replica 202.

[0069] Though DSA and CRDSA have been used in satellite communication system, the access control configuration from the network is designed using the satellite communication protocol stack structure, frame structure and signaling mechanism as discussed above. This cannot be fully reused without any change from conventional solutions. How to incorporate the DSA / CRDSA-like techniques into contention-based transmission for NTN IoT small data such as Msg3-early data transmission (EDT) on the shared resources to enhance the UL capacity needs to be studied. Specifically, there is a need to further study how the base station (BTS) controls / configures the UE to use / access the contention-based shared resources for UL transmission (s) , which may be single transmission or multiple transmission replicas with either random resource selection or pre-configured resource selection in a fast and efficient way.

[0070] Example embodiments of the present disclosure consider applying cancellation based contention resolution mechanism as in CRDSA for shared UL resource access to improve the UL capacity in 3GPP technology, focusing on the configuration from the BTS to the UE to control the UE to determine the replica transmission operation for contention-based access using shared UL resource.

[0071] According to some example embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution for control and configuration on contention-based shared (CBS) uplink (UL) resource allocation with multiple UL transmissions. Specifically, the proposed solutions consider applying a cancellation based contention resolution mechanism as in CRDSA for shared UL resource access to improve the UL capacity in 3GPP technology, focusing on the configuration from the BTS to the UE to control the UE to determine the replica transmission operation for contention-based access using shared UL resource.

[0072] In the DSA and CRDSA access method, a terminal device (e.g., a UE) may transmit multiple replicas to reduce the impact of collision in contention-based transmissions and also rely on cancellation based contention resolution to improve the throughput / capacity. Therefore, DSA / CRDSA-like mechanism may be considered as the enhanced random access techniques to improve uplink capacity. However, the details on incorporating DSA / CRDSA-like mechanism into 3GPP NTN technologies are not disclosed.

[0073] Furthermore, there may be a need to study on the mechanism to bar a terminal  device (e.g., a UE) from accessing a cell operating with DL coverage enhancement (e.g. because of extreme synchronization signal block (SSB) periodicity) the existing NTN bar bit can be used.

[0074] To solve the above and other related / potential issues, embodiments of the present disclosure propose a solution. In the solution, resource information for a group of replicas of a data packet and a plurality of repetitions associated with the group of replicas is proposed. The resource information indicates resources for transmissions of the group of replicas and the plurality of repetitions.

[0075] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0076] Reference is made to FIG. 3, illustrates a signaling flow 300 of the contention-based uplink transmission with repetition in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 300 involves a first terminal device 310 and a first network device 320. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 300 will be discussed with reference to FIG 1.

[0077] In some embodiments, the first terminal device 310 may be implemented as the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1. The first network device 320 may be implemented as the network device 120 in FIG. 1. For example, the first terminal device 310 may be implemented as a UE, and the first network device 320 may be implemented as a gNB. Alternatively, the first terminal device 310 may be implemented as a IoT device, and the first network device 320 may be implemented as a reader or gNB.

[0078] In the signaling flow 300, the first terminal device 310 determines (3010) resource information for a group of replicas of a data packet and a plurality of repetitions associated with the group of replicas. The first network device 320 determines (3020) resource information for a group of replicas of a data packet and a plurality of repetitions associated with the group of replicas. In some implementations, the resource information determined by the first terminal device 310 and the first terminal device 310 may be the same.

[0079] Furthermore, the first terminal device 310 transmits (3030) , to the first network device 320, the group of replicas and the plurality of repetitions based on the resource information. Correspondingly, the first network device 320 receives (3040) , from the first terminal device 310, a group of replicas and at least one repetition associated with the  group of replicas based on the resource information.

[0080] Specifically, the resource information may include, but not limited to, time domain information of resources for the group of replicas and the plurality of repetitions, frequency domain information of the resources, and code domain information of the resources. In some implementations, the resource information may include an index of resources for the first terminal device 310.

[0081] In some embodiments, the first terminal device 310 may determine a group of resources for the group of replicas based on configuration information. Moreover, the first terminal device 310 may determine, based on the group of resources and the configuration information, the resource information for the plurality of repetitions. Specifically, each repetition of the plurality of repetitions may include the group of replicas.

[0082] In addition, the first network device 320 may determine a group of resources for the group of replicas based on configuration information. Moreover, the first network device 320 may determine, based on the group of resources and the configuration information, the resource information for the plurality of repetitions. Specifically, each repetition of the plurality of repetitions may include the group of replicas.

[0083] Additionally, the configuration information may indicate a plurality of resources for the first terminal device 310. Additionally, the configuration information may be predetermined by the first network device 320 and transmitted to the first terminal device 310. In some implementations, the configuration information and the plurality of resources may be shared by a plurality of first terminal devices.

[0084] Moreover, the group of replicas in each repetition of the plurality of repetitions may correspond to resources different in at least one of time domain, frequency domain, or code domain. In addition, a replica in a first repetition of the plurality of repetitions and a corresponding replica in a second repetition of the plurality of repetitions may correspond to resources which are different in time domain and the same in frequency domain and code domain.

[0085] Specifically, for different replicas in each repetition, resources in the frequency domain and / or the code domain may be different to reduce the collision between the replicas of the plurality of first terminal devices. The resource information for the plurality of repetitions may be determined as the same in the frequency domain and / or the code domain for enhancement of the uplink transmission.

[0086] Furthermore, the configuration information may indicate groups of resources which are consecutive in time domain. In these cases, each of the groups of resources may be used for the group of replicas in a repetition of the plurality of repetition. For example, the groups of resources in time domain used for the group of replicas in a repetition may be consecutive in UL slots, symbols, or subframes.

[0087] In some implementations, the first terminal device 310 may determine, based on the resource information, a response window. The response window may be used for receiving, from the first network device 320, a response message associated with the group of replicas and the repetitions. Specifically, the response window may be started after all of the replicas and / or the repetitions are transmitted. In some embodiments, the response window may include information about a time duration for the response window for receiving the response message.

[0088] In addition, the first network device 320 may determine, based on the resource information, a response window. Specifically, the response window may be used for transmitting, to the first terminal device 310, a response message associated with the group of replicas and the repetitions. Furthermore, the response window may be started after all of the replicas and / or all repetitions are transmitted.

[0089] Alternatively, the first terminal device 310 may determine, based on configuration information, the resource information for a transmission for each replica of the group of replicas. Specifically, the transmission may include the plurality of repetitions of each replica.

[0090] Additionally, the first network device 320 may determine, based on the configuration information, the resource information for a transmission for each replica of the group of replicas. In these cases, the transmission may include the plurality of repetitions of each replica.

[0091] Moreover, the plurality of repetitions of each replica in the transmission may correspond to resources different in time domain, and the same in frequency domain and code domain. Additionally, replicas in the group of replicas may correspond to resources different in at least one of time domain, frequency domain, or code domain.

[0092] Specifically, for different replicas in the group of replicas, resources in the frequency domain and / or the code domain may be different to reduce the collision between the replicas of the plurality of first terminal devices. The resource information for the  plurality of repetitions of each replica may be determined as the same in the frequency domain and / or the code domain for enhancement of the transmission of the replica.

[0093] In addition, the configuration information may indicate groups of resources which are consecutive in time domain. In these cases, each of the groups of resources may be used for a transmission including the plurality of repetitions of each replica. For example, the groups of resources in time domain used for transmission including the plurality of repetitions of each replica may be consecutive in UL slots, symbols, or subframes.

[0094] In some embodiments, the first terminal device 310 may determine, based on the resource information, a response window. The response window may be used for receiving, from the first network device 320, a response message associated with the group of replicas and the repetitions. Specifically, the response window may be started after all transmissions for the group of replicas and / or the repetitions. Alternatively, the response window may be started immediately after each transmission for a replica in the group of replicas and / or the plurality of repetitions associated to the replica.

[0095] Additionally, the first network device 320 may determine, based on the resource information, a response window. The response window may be used for transmitting, to the first terminal device 310, a response message associated with the group of replicas and the repetitions. Specifically, the response window may be started after all transmissions for the group of replicas and / or repetition. Alternatively, the response window may be started immediately after each transmission for a replica in the group of replicas.

[0096] In this way, the UL transmission of the first terminal device 310 may be enhanced with repetitions. Moreover, the collision of UL transmissions of multiple first terminal devices may be reduced. Thus, the effectiveness and efficiency of the UL transmission is improved.

[0097] In some embodiments, the resources may be predetermined by or transmitted to a gNB. In these cases, configuration information indicating the resources may be transmitted to a UE. The UL transmission of the UE may be performed via Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) or Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) .

[0098] Specifically, the resources may include time domain resources, frequency domain resources, and code domain resources.

[0099] In some implementations, the time domain resources for the UL transmission may be a pattern or consecutive time domain resources in UL slot, symbol, or subframe. Additionally, the selected time domain resources may be represented by a replica number and a repetition number. In some embodiments, configuration information may include a number of time domain resources. Furthermore, the time domain resources may be grouped, such as group A and group B. In these cases, the group of time domain resources may be represented by a group index of the group to reduce signaling overhead.

[0100] Moreover, the frequency domain resources may include spectrum resources , for example, physical resource blocks (PRB) , resource units (RU) , subcarriers. Similarly, the frequency domain resources may be grouped. The code domain resources may include multiple orthogonal code channels (OCC) .

[0101] In addition, the configuration information may include a number of replicas within one period or group and a number of repetitions within one period. Specifically, the number of replicas may indicate a number of replicas for a data packet. The number of repetitions may indicate a number of repetitions for a replica.

[0102] Furthermore, though multiple replicas are introduced, repetitions should also be used considering coverage issue. if multiple replicas and repetition are used, integration between multiple replicas and repetition needs to be considered.

[0103] Additionally, the resources for the UL transmissions may be determined by the UE and / or the gNB.

[0104] Now more detailed embodiments will be further discussed below. FIG. 4 illustrates a diagram 400 of example contention-based uplink transmissions with repetition in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the diagram 400 will be discussed with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3. As shown in FIG. 4, the diagram 400 involves replicas 402, 404, 412, and 414. Specifically, resources shown in FIG. 4 may be selected by the first terminal device 310 and / or the first network device 320 in FIG. 3. For example, the resources for the uplink transmission may be determined by a UE and / or a gNB. Moreover, the UL transmission of the UE may be transmitted via PUSCH or PRACH.

[0105] As illustrated, in one of at least one transmission, time domain resources (also referred as to “occasions” ) may be denoted as O1, O2, O3, and O4. The frequency domain resources may be denoted as frequency #1, frequency #2, …, frequency #k. The code  domain resources are not shown in FIG. 4. For example, the UE may transmit a UL signal via an OCC of multiple OCC resources. Specifically, the configuration information may include information indicating the time domain resources, the frequency domain resources, and the code domain resources.

[0106] In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the UE may determine resource information for the group of replicas of a data packet and the plurality of repetitions associated with the group of replicas. That is, the UE may select a plurality of resources. As illustrated, the resources, using which the replicas 402, 404, 412, 414, and other replicas may be transmitted, may be selected by the UE. Specifically, the replica 402 and the replica 412 may be implementations of replica 204 and replica 205 in FIG. 2, respectively. That is, the replica 402 and the replica 412 may be referred to as two replicas of the same data packet. Similarly, the replicas 404 and 414 may be implementations of replica 201 and replica 202 in FIG. 2, respectively.

[0107] Moreover, the replica 402 and the replica 412 may be referred to as two repetitions of the same replica. The replica 404 and the replica 414 may be referred to as two repetitions of the same replica.

[0108] In some embodiments, the UE may perform the first transmission based on the resource information. Specifically, the UE may perform the transmission of the group of replicas firstly and perform the transmission of repetitions of the group of replicas secondly. For example, the UE may use the resource related to O1 and frequency #2 to transmit the replica 402 and use the resource related to O3 and frequency #1 to transmit the replica 404.

[0109] After the group of replicas are transmitted for the same packet, the second transmission for multiple replicas may be performed. Specifically, the UE may perform the repetition transmissions (e.g., the second transmission) . Furthermore, for each repetition transmission, multiple replica transmissions may be in terms of the selected resources. As illustrated, in the second transmission, the replica 412 may be transmitted with the same frequency as the replica 402. Additionally, the replica 414 may be transmitted with the same frequency as the replica 404.

[0110] In these cases, the UE may select the resources for the group of replicas based on the number of the replicas and the configuration information. For each replica, frequency domain resources or code domain resource may be selected, if configured. The  resources may be selected randomly or in any suitable way.

[0111] Specifically, the frequency domain resources and the code domain resources for each replica may be separately selected. Moreover, the frequency domain resources and the code domain resources for different replicas may be different, which may reduce the collision between UL transmissions of different UEs. Alternatively, the same frequency domain resources and / or code domain resources may be used for selected PUSCH / PRACH occasions or replica occasions.

[0112] If multiple groups for time domain resources and / or frequency domain resources are configured, the UE may select one group. Then, the UE may select time domain resources and / or frequency domain resources in the selected group. In these cases, the UE may perform the selection randomly or based on a condition or rule.

[0113] In addition, since the resources for the UL transmission may be determined by the UE and / or the gNB, the gNB may also select resources for the UL transmission based on the mechanism described above, which is not described here for simplicity.

[0114] Moreover, the UE may determine, based on the resource information, a response window for receiving, from the gNB, a response message associated with the group of replicas and the repetitions. Specifically, the response window may be started after all of the replicas and / or the repetitions are transmitted.

[0115] Furthermore, the response window may be started after all transmissions of the replicas and repetition transmissions. For NTN, besides all transmissions, a round trip time (RTT) of UE to gNB or UE to eNB may be used to determine the start time point of the response window.

[0116] In this way, the transmission of a group of replicas related to a data packets and the repetitions associated to the group of replicas is performed. Furthermore, transmissions of repetitions associated with the replicas is performed after the group of replicas is transmitted. . Moreover, the coverage of the UL signal is improved. Thus, the efficiency of the UL transmission is improved.

[0117] For narrowband-internet of things (NB-IoT) and enhanced machine-type communication (eMTC) , the mechanism described above may be used similarly. Reference is made to FIG. 5, which illustrates a diagram 500 of example contention-based uplink transmissions with repetition in accordance with some embodiments of the present  disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the diagram 500 will be discussed with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3. As shown in FIG. 5, the diagram 500 involves replicas 502, 504, 512, and 514. Specifically, resources shown in FIG. 5 may be selected by the first terminal device 310 and / or the first network device 320 in FIG. 3. For example, the resources for the uplink transmission may be determined by an NB-IoT device and / or a reader. Moreover, the reader may be implemented as a terminal device or a gNB.

[0118] As illustrated, in one of at least one transmission, time domain resources (also referred as to “occasions” ) may be denoted as O1, O2, O3, and O4. The frequency domain resources may be denoted as subcarrier #1, subcarrier #2, …, subcarrier #48. The code domain resources are not shown in FIG. 5. For example, the UE may transmit a UL signal via an OCC of multiple OCC resources. Specifically, the configuration information may include information indicating the time domain resources, the frequency domain resources, and the code domain resources.

[0119] In the embodiment of FIG. 5, the NB-IoT device may select a plurality of resources. As illustrated, the resources, using which the replicas 502, 504, 512, 514 and other replicas may be transmitted, may be selected by the NB-IoT device. Specifically, the replica 502 and the replica 512 may be implementations of replica 204 and replica 205 in FIG. 2, respectively. That is, the replica 502 and the replica 512 may be referred to as two replicas of the same data packet. Similarly, the replicas 504 and 514 may be implementations of replica 201 and replica 202 in FIG. 2, respectively. Moreover, the number of replicas in each transmission is predetermined or predefined as 2.

[0120] Moreover, the replica 502 and the replica 512 may be referred to as two repetitions associated with the same replica. The replica 504 and the replica 514 may be referred to as two repetitions associated with the same replica.

[0121] In some embodiments, the NB-IoT device may use the resource related to O1 and subcarrier #2 to transmit the replica 502 and use the resource related to O3 and subcarrier #1 to transmit the replica 504.

[0122] After the group of replicas are transmitted for the same packet, the second transmission for multiple replicas may be performed. Specifically, the NB-IoT device may perform the repetition transmissions (e.g., the second transmission) . As illustrated, in the second transmission, the replica 512 may be transmitted with the same frequency as the replica 502. Additionally, the replica 514 may be transmitted with the same frequency as  the replica 504.

[0123] Furthermore, the time domain resources used for the group of replicas in a repetition may be consecutive in UL slots, symbols, or subframes. For multiple repetitions that follows, time domain resources are following with the resources for the replicas.

[0124] In addition, since the resources for the replica and repetition may be determined by the NB-IoT device and / or the reader or gNB, the reader or gNB may also select resources based on the mechanism described above, which is not described here for simplicity.

[0125] In this way, the transmission of a group of replicas related to a data packets and the repetitions associated to the group of replicas is performed. Furthermore, transmissions of repetitions associated with the replicas is performed after the group of replicas is transmitted. Thus, the efficiency of the UL transmission of the NB-IoT device is improved. Moreover, the coverage of the UL signal is improved.

[0126] It is to be understood that these embodiments are described only for the purpose of illustration and help those skilled in the art to understand and implement the present disclosure, without suggesting any limitation as to the scope of the disclosure. Embodiments described herein can be implemented in various manners other than the ones described.

[0127] FIG. 6 illustrates a diagram 600 of example contention-based uplink transmissions with repetition in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the diagram 600 will be discussed with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3. As shown in FIG. 6, the diagram 600 involves replicas 602, 604, 612, and 614. Specifically, resources shown in FIG. 6 may be selected by the first terminal device 310 and / or the first network device 320 in FIG. 3. For example, the resources for the uplink transmission may be determined by a UE and / or a gNB. Moreover, the UL transmission of the UE may be transmitted via PUSCH or PRACH.

[0128] As illustrated, in one of at least one transmission, time domain resources may be denoted as R1, R2, R3, and R4. The frequency domain resources may be denoted as frequency #1, frequency #2, …, frequency #k. The code domain resources are not shown in FIG. 6. For example, the UE may transmit a UL signal via an OCC of multiple OCC resources. Specifically, the configuration information may include information indicating the time domain resources, the frequency domain resources, and the code domain  resources. The resources may be further divided into three groups of the first replica, the second replica, and the third replica in time domain. In these cases, the resources in each group may be consecutive time domain resources in UL slot, symbol, or subframe.

[0129] In the embodiment of FIG. 6, the UE may determine resource information for the group of replicas of a data packet and the plurality of repetitions associated with the group of replicas. That is, the UE may select a plurality of resources. As illustrated, the resources, using which the replicas 602, 604, 612, 614, and other replicas may be transmitted, may be selected by the UE. Specifically, the replica 602 and the replica 612 may be implementations of replica 204 and replica 205 in FIG. 2, respectively. That is, the replica 602 and the replica 612 may be referred to as two replicas of the same data packet. Similarly, the replicas 604 and 614 may be implementations of replica 201 and replica 202 in FIG. 2, respectively.

[0130] Moreover, the replica 602 and the replica 612 may be referred to as two repetitions of the same replica. The replica 604 and the replica 614 may be referred to as two repetitions of the same replica.

[0131] In some embodiments, the UE may use resource for one or more replicas related to the first time domain resource (e.g., R1 in the first replica) . The UE may transmit one or more replicas based on the resource information. For example, the UE may use the resource related to R1 in the first replica and frequency #1 to transmit the replica 602. Subsequently, the UE may perform the transmission of repetitions of the one or more replicas. For example, the UE may use the resource related to R2 in the first replica and frequency #1 to transmit the replica 612.

[0132] After the transmission of the repetitions associated with the replica, the UE may perform transmission of a further replica with repetitions. Specifically, the UE may use the resource relate to R1 in the third replica and frequency #2 to transmit the replica 604. Subsequently, the UE may perform the transmission of the repetitions of the further replica. For example, the UE may use the resource related to R2 in the third replica and frequency #2 to transmit the replica 614.

[0133] In these cases, the UE may select the resources for the group of replicas based on the number of the replicas and the configuration information. For each replica, frequency domain resources or code domain resource may be selected, if configured. The resources may be selected randomly or in any suitable way.

[0134] Specifically, the frequency domain resources and the code domain resources for each replica may be separately selected. That is, the frequency domain resources and the code domain resources for different replicas may be different, which may reduce the collision between UL transmissions of different UEs. Alternatively, the same frequency domain resources and / or code domain resources may be used for selected PUSCH / PRACH occasions or replica occasions.

[0135] If multiple groups for time domain resources and / or frequency domain resources are configured, the UE may select one group. Subsequently, the UE may select time domain resources and / or frequency domain resources in the selected group. In these cases, the UE may perform the selection randomly or based on a condition or rule.

[0136] In addition, since the resources for the UL transmission may be determined by the UE and / or the gNB, the gNB may also select resources for the UL transmission based on the mechanism described above, which is not described here for simplicity.

[0137] Moreover, the UE may determine, based on the resource information, a response window for receiving, from the gNB, a response message associated with the group of replicas and the repetitions. Specifically, the response window may be started after all transmissions for the group of replicas and / or the repetitions. Alternatively, the response window may be started immediately after each transmission for a replica in the group of replicas and / or the plurality of repetitions associated to the replica. In some implementations, the start time point of the response window may be determined based on whether the gNB decoded the UL signal successfully. For example, upon receiving the response message, the response window may be stopped and the remaining transmissions are terminated or cancelled.

[0138] In this way, the transmission of a group of replicas related to a data packet and the repetitions associated to the group of replicas is performed. Furthermore, the repetitions associated to a replica in the group of replicas may be transmitted before the transmission of another replica in the group of replicas. Thus, the effectiveness of the UL transmission is improved. Moreover, the coverage of the UL signal is improved.

[0139] For narrowband-internet of things (NB-IoT) and enhanced machine-type communication (eMTC) , the mechanism described above may be used similarly. Reference is made to FIG. 7, which illustrates a diagram 700 of example contention-based uplink transmissions with repetition in accordance with some embodiments of the present  disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the diagram 700 will be discussed with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3. As shown in FIG. 7, the diagram 700 involves replicas 702, 704, 712, and 714. Specifically, resources shown in FIG. 7 may be selected by the first terminal device 310 and / or the first network device 320 in FIG. 3. For example, the resources for the uplink transmission may be determined by an NB-IoT device and / or a reader. Moreover, the reader may be implemented as a terminal device or a gNB.

[0140] As illustrated, in one of at least one transmission, time domain resources (also referred as to “occasions” ) may be denoted as R1, R2, R3, and R4. The frequency domain resources may be denoted as subcarrier #1, subcarrier #2, …, subcarrier #48. The code domain resources are not shown in FIG. 7. For example, the UE may transmit a UL signal via an OCC of multiple OCC resources. Specifically, the configuration information may include information indicating the time domain resources, the frequency domain resources, and the code domain resources.

[0141] In the embodiment of FIG. 7, the NB-IoT device may select a plurality of resources. As illustrated, the resources, using which the replicas 702, 704, 712, 714, and other replicas may be transmitted, may be selected by the NB-IoT device. Specifically, the replica 702 and the replica 712 may be implementations of replica 204 and replica 205 in FIG. 2, respectively. That is, the replica 702 and the replica 712 may be referred to as two replicas of the same data packet. Similarly, the replicas 704 and 714 may be implementations of replica 201 and replica 202 in FIG. 2, respectively. Moreover, the number of replicas in each transmission is predetermined or predefined as 2.

[0142] Moreover, the replica 702 and the replica 712 may be referred to as two repetitions associated with the same replica. The replica 704 and the replica 714 may be referred to as two repetitions associated with the same replica.

[0143] In some embodiments, the NB-IoT device may use resource for one or more replicas related to the first time domain resource (e.g., R1 in the first replica) . The NB-IoT device may transmit the one or more replicas based on the resource information. For example, the NB-IoT device may use the resource related to R1 in the first replica and frequency #1 to transmit the replica 702. Subsequently, the NB-IoT device may perform the transmission of repetitions of the one or more replicas. For example, the NB-IoT device may use the resource related to R2 in the first replica and frequency #1 to transmit the replica 712.

[0144] After the transmission of the repetitions associated with the replica, the NB-IoT device may perform transmission of a further replica with repetitions. Specifically, the NB-IoT device may use the resource relate to R1 in the third replica and frequency #2 to transmit the replica 704. Subsequently, the NB-IoT device may perform the transmission of the repetitions of the further replica. For example, the NB-IoT device may use the resource related to R2 in the third replica and frequency #2 to transmit the replica 714.

[0145] In addition, since the resources for the replica and repetition may be determined by the NB-IoT device and / or the reader or gNB, the reader or gNB may also select resources based on the mechanism described above, which is not described here for simplicity.

[0146] In this way, the transmission of a group of replicas related to a data packets and the repetitions associated to the group of replicas is performed. Furthermore, the repetitions associated to a replica of the group of replicas may be transmitted before the transmission of another replica of the group of replicas. Thus, the effectiveness of the UL transmission of the NB-IoT device is improved. Moreover, the coverage of the UL signal is improved.

[0147] It is to be understood that these embodiments are described only for the purpose of illustration and help those skilled in the art to understand and implement the present disclosure, without suggesting any limitation as to the scope of the disclosure. Embodiments described herein can be implemented in various manners other than the ones described.

[0148] As mentioned above, the UE may select multiple resources in time domain, frequency domain, and code domain. Since multiple UEs may perform UL transmissions to the same gNB simultaneously, it is necessary to study the mechanism for interference cancellation. Reference is made to FIG. 8, which illustrates a signaling flow 800 of resource information transmission in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 800 involves a second terminal device 810 and a second network device 820. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 800 will be discussed with reference to FIG 1.

[0149] In some embodiments, the second terminal device 810 may be implemented as the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1. The second network device 820 may be implemented as the network device 120 in FIG. 1. For example, the second terminal device 810 may be  implemented as a UE, and the second network device 820 may be implemented as a gNB. Alternatively, the first terminal device 810 may be implemented as a IoT device, and the first network device 820 may be implemented as a reader or gNB. Moreover, the UL transmission of the UE may be transmitted via PUSCH or PRACH.

[0150] In the signaling flow 800, the second terminal device 810 transmits (8010) , to the second network device 820, resource information for a group of replicas of a data packet. Correspondingly, the second network device 820 receives (8020) , from the second terminal device 810, resource information for a group of replicas of a data packet. Moreover, the resource information includes, but not limited to, time domain information of a resource for the group of replicas, frequency domain information of a resource for the group of replicas, or code domain information of a resource for the group of replicas.

[0151] In some implementations, multiple second terminal devices may perform UL transmissions to the second network device 820. In these cases, the second terminal devices 820 may transmit multiple pieces of resource information to the second network device 820. Moreover, the second network device 820 may perform interference cancelation on the multiple UL transmission of the multiple second terminal devices based on the multiple pieces of resource information.

[0152] Furthermore, the time domain information may include, but not limited to, a time domain index of a resource for a replica in the group of replicas, or a group index of a group of resources for the group of replicas. Alternatively or in addition, the frequency domain information may include, but not limited to, a frequency domain index of a resource for a replica in the group of replicas, or a group index of a group of resources for the group of replicas. Moreover, the code domain information may include a code domain index of a resource for a replica in the group of replicas.

[0153] In addition, the resource information may be transmitted via a medium access control control element (MAC CE) or uplink control information (UCI) .

[0154] Additionally, a redundancy version (RV) for the group of replicas may be predetermined or predefined. In some embodiments, RV for all replicas in PUSCH transmission may be defined as or set to 0. Alternatively, RV may be a fixed value for the first transmission in the UL transmission. Moreover, if the UL transmission involves repetitions, RVs for all replicas may be set to 0 or a fixed value for the first transmission.

[0155] In this way, the second network device 820 may receive the resource information  of the second terminal device 810 for interference cancelation based on the resource information. Thus, the effectiveness of the UL transmission is improved.

[0156] In some embodiments, an identifier of the UE may be determined based on resource information of the resources related to the replicas. If a UL transmission include multiple resources for multiple replicas, identifiers related to different resources may be different. The mechanism for determining an identifier for a UE related to a UL transmission with replica is to be studied. Reference is made to FIG. 9, which illustrates a signaling flow 900 of determining a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 900 involves a third terminal device 910 and a third network device 920. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 900 will be discussed with reference to FIG 1.

[0157] In some embodiments, the third terminal device 910 may be implemented as the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1. The third network device 920 may be implemented as the network device 120 in FIG. 1. For example, the third terminal device 910 may be implemented as a UE, and the third network device 920 may be implemented as a gNB. Alternatively, the first terminal device 910 may be implemented as a IoT device, and the first network device 920 may be implemented as a reader or gNB. Moreover, the UL transmission of the UE may be transmitted via PUSCH or PRACH.

[0158] In the signaling flow 900, the third terminal device 910 determines (9010) at least one RNTI based on resource information for a group of replicas of a data packet. Additionally, the third network device 920 determines (9020) at least one RNTI based on resource information for a group of replicas of a data packet.

[0159] Furthermore, the third network device 920 transmits (9030) , to the third terminal device 910, a response message associated with the group of replicas based on the at least one RNTI. Correspondingly, the third terminal device 910 receives (9040) , from the third network device 920, a response message associated with the group of replicas based on the at least one RNTI.

[0160] Moreover, the at least one RNTI may include a plurality of RNTIs. Specifically, each of the plurality of RNTIs may be related to each replica in the group of replicas. For example, for each replica, a RNTI may be determined based on the resource information of each resource related to each replica.

[0161] Furthermore, the RNTI may be determined based on the time domain  information, frequency domain information, and / or code domain information of the resource for the replica. In these cases, if the transmission includes multiple replicas, there may be multiple RNTIs. That is, the multiple RNTIs may be used for the third terminal device 910. Correspondingly, the third network device 920 may select one of the multiple RNTIs to transmit the response message. Moreover, the third terminal device 910 may monitor the response message blindly according to the multiple RNTIs including RNTIs related to all the replicas. In some implementations, the third terminal device 910 may try to use all of the RNTIs until the RNTI used by the third network device 920 is matched.

[0162] In these cases, the plurality of RNTIs may be used for physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) scrambling. Specifically, RNTI related to the first replica or the last replica may be used for PDCCH scrambling.

[0163] Alternatively, the at least one RNTI may include a single RNTI. In these cases, the third terminal device 910 may determine the single RNTI based on a plurality of RNTIs. Specifically, each of the plurality of RNTIs may be related to each replica in the group of replicas. In some embodiments, the single RNTI may be determined based on the resource information of multiple resources related to the multiple replicas.

[0164] In these cases, the single RNTI may be determined based on the resource information of resources related to all of the replicas. Specifically, the third terminal device 910 may determine one RNTI based on the time domain information, frequency domain information, and / or code domain information of resources related to the replicas. Moreover, the third terminal device 910 may determine the single RNTI based on the resource information of multiple resources related to multiple replicas. For example, the third terminal device 910 may determine multiple values, each value being related to a resource for a replica of the multiple replicas. Moreover, the third terminal device 910 may add all of the multiple values together to determine the single RNTI. Alternatively, the third terminal device 910 may select one of the multiple values as the single RNTI randomly or based on a condition or rule.

[0165] Additionally, upon failure of transmission of the group of replicas associated to a plurality of resources in time domain, such as response window timer expiration , a transmission counter is incremented by 1. In these cases, the transmissions of multiple replicas may be considered as one transmission. Furthermore, contention-based preamble (e.g., Msg. 3) transmission counter may be only incremented by 1.

[0166] In this way, the third terminal device 910 may use a RNTI for receiving, from the third network device 920, the response message based on the RNTI. Thus, the effectiveness of the UL transmission is improved.

[0167] Reference is made to FIG. 10, which illustrates a signaling flow 1000 of a bar indication in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 1000 involves a fourth terminal device 1010 and a fourth network device 1020. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 1000 will be discussed with reference to FIG 1.

[0168] In some embodiments, the fourth terminal device 1010 may be implemented as the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1. The fourth network device 1020 may be implemented as the network device 120 in FIG. 1. For example, the fourth terminal device 1010 may be implemented as a UE, and the fourth network device 1020 may be implemented as a gNB. Alternatively, the first terminal device 1010 may be implemented as a IoT device, and the first network device 1020 may be implemented as a reader or gNB. Moreover, the UL transmission of the UE may be transmitted via PUSCH or PRACH.

[0169] In the signaling flow 1000, the fourth network device 1020 transmits (10010) , to the fourth terminal device 1010, a bar indication indicating whether the fourth terminal device 1010 is allowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020. Correspondingly, the fourth terminal device 1010 receives (10020) , from the fourth network device 1020, a bar indication indicating that the fourth terminal device 1010 is disallowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020. In addition, the bar indication may be configured by system information block 1 (SIB1) . Furthermore, accessing to a network device (e.g., the fourth network device 1020) may include accessing to a cell of the network device. In these cases, a terminal device (e.g., the fourth terminal device 1010) in the cell may receive the bar indication or other indication indicating whether the terminal device is allowed for accessing the network device.

[0170] Moreover, the bar indication may be implemented as an implicit indication, an explicit indication, a flag or any suitable form. Specifically, if the bar indication is set to bar or considered as bar, the bar indication may indicate that the fourth terminal device 1010 is disallowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020. Furthermore, if the bar indication is set to not bar, the bar indication may indicate that the fourth terminal device 1010 is allowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020.

[0171] Moreover, the fourth terminal device 1010 may be capable of performing downlink coverage enhancement. The performing downlink coverage enhancement may include cell / beam discontinuous transmission (DTX)  / discontinuous reception (DRX) , SSB periodicity extension, and the like. In these cases, a terminal device not capable of performing downlink coverage enhancement may be referred to as a legacy terminal device.

[0172] Furthermore, the bar indication may be used in combination with a further bar indication preconfigured or predefined for the fourth terminal device 1010. Specifically, the further bar indication may be referred as to a legacy bar indication. Moreover, the legacy bar indication may indicate whether a terminal device is allowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020.

[0173] In some embodiments, the legacy bar indication is used for the legacy terminal device, and the bar indication is used for the fourth terminal device 1010. For example, if the bar indication indicates that the fourth terminal device 1010 is disallowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020, the fourth terminal device 1010 may abandon access to the fourth network device 1020. If the bar indication indicates that the fourth terminal device 1010 is allowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020 or the bar indication is absent, the fourth terminal device 1010 may access the fourth network device 1020.

[0174] Alternatively, the legacy bar indication and the bar indication may be simultaneously used for the fourth terminal device 1010. Specifically, if the legacy bar indication for the legacy terminal device is set to bar and the bar indication for the fourth terminal device 1010 is considered as bar, the fourth terminal device 1010 may consider the cell of the fourth network device 1020 related to the bar indication is barred.

[0175] Moreover, if the legacy bar indication for the legacy terminal device is set to bar and the bar indication for the fourth terminal device 1010 is set to not bar, the fourth terminal device 1010 may access the fourth network device 1020.

[0176] An example of the bar indication is shown in Table 1. In the Table. 1, content added in the present disclosure is underlined.

[0177] Table. 1

[0178] Additionally, for store and forward (SF) , the fourth network device 1020 may indicate a SF bar indication and / or a SF indication for a terminal device capable of performing store and forward (also referred as to SF terminal device) .

[0179] Furthermore, the SF bar indication may be implemented as an implicit indication, an explicit indication, a flag or any suitable form. Specifically, if the SF bar indication is set to barred or considered as bar, the bar indication may indicate that the SF terminal device is disallowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020. Furthermore, if the SF bar indication is set to not barred, the bar indication may indicate that the SF terminal device is allowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020.

[0180] In some embodiments, the SF bar indication is introduced. In these cases, the  only the SF bar indication may be used for the SF terminal device. If the SF bar indication is set to barred, the SF terminal device may be disallowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020.

[0181] Alternatively, the SF bar indication may be used in combination with a further SF bar indication preconfigured or predefined for the SF terminal device. Specifically, the further SF bar indication may be referred as to a legacy NTN bar indication. If the legacy NTN bar indication is set to barred and the SF bar indication is set to barred, the SF terminal is disallowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020. If the legacy NTN bar indication is set to barred and the SF bar indication is set to not barred, the SF terminal device is allowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020.

[0182] Additionally, the SF indication may be used as an indication for access. In some implementations, only SF indication is used for access indication. If the SF indication is received, the SF terminal device is allowed to access the fourth network device 1020. If the SF indication is not received, the SF terminal device is disallowed to access the fourth network device 1020. Moreover, the SF indication may indicate a value that may be either true or false. Specifically, if the SF indication indicates that the value is true, the fourth network device 1020 may be considered to allow store and forward. In these cases, the SF terminal device receiving the SF indication may access to the fourth network device 1020. If the SF indication indicates that the value is false or SF indication is absent, the SF terminal device may abandon access to the fourth network device.

[0183] Alternatively, the SF bar indication may be used in combination with a further NTN bar indication preconfigured or predefined for the SF terminal device. Specifically, the further SF bar indication may be referred as to a legacy NTN bar indication. If the legacy NTN bar indication is set to barred and the SF indication is received, the SF terminal device is allowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020. If the legacy NTN bar indication is set to barred and the SF indication is not received, the SF terminal device is not allowed for accessing the fourth network device 1020.

[0184] FIG. 11 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 1100 implemented at a first terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 1100 will be described from the perspective of the first terminal device 310 in FIG. 3.

[0185] At block 1110, the first terminal device 310 determines resource information for  a group of replicas of a data packet and a plurality of repetitions associated with the group of replicas.

[0186] At block 1120, the first terminal device 310 transmits, to a first network device, the group of replicas and the plurality of repetitions based on the resource information.

[0187] In some example embodiments, the first terminal device 310 may determine a group of resources for the group of replicas based on configuration information; and the first terminal device 310 may determine, based on the group of resources and the configuration information, the resource information for the plurality of repetitions, each repetition of the plurality of repetitions comprising the group of replicas.

[0188] In some example embodiments, the group of replicas in each repetition of the plurality of repetitions may correspond to resources different in at least one of time domain, frequency domain, or code domain, and a replica in a first repetition of the plurality of repetitions and a corresponding replica in a second repetition of the plurality of repetitions may correspond to resources which are different in time domain and the same in frequency domain and code domain.

[0189] In some example embodiments, the configuration information may indicate groups of resources which are consecutive in time domain, each of the groups of resources being used for the group of replicas in a repetition of the plurality of repetition.

[0190] In some example embodiments, the first terminal device 310 may determine, based on the resource information, a response window for receiving, from the first network device, a response message associated with the group of replicas and the repetitions, wherein the response window may be started after all of the replicas and / or the repetitions are transmitted.

[0191] In some example embodiments, the first terminal device 310 may determine, based on configuration information, the resource information for a transmission for each replica of the group of replicas, the transmission comprising the plurality of repetitions of each replica.
