Abstract

Techniques described herein include solutions for early channel state information (CSI) reporting for candidate cells in layer 1 / layer 2 triggered mobility (LTM). A user equipment (UE) may receive an LTM candidate configuration indicating one or more reference signal (RS) sets for one or more candidate cells. The UE may receive a triggering command to trigger a CSI report for a first candidate cell of the one or more candidate cells, and perform measurements on a first RS resource set of the one or more RS resource sets, the first RS resource set being associated with a first candidate cell. The UE may transmit the CSI report for the first candidate cell based on the performed measurements. The UE may perform a cell switch procedure, after providing the CSI report, to establish a connection with the candidate cell.

[0019] The following detailed description refers to the accompanying drawings. Like reference numbers in different drawings may identify the same or similar features, elements, operations, etc. Additionally, the present disclosure is not limited to the following description as other implementations may be utilized, and structural or logical changes made, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0020] A user equipment (UE) may report channel state information (CSI) to a network to facilitate link adaptation and improve spectral efficiency. For example, based on a CSI report, the network may adjust communication parameters such as a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) or an aggregation level for a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) . Without the information provided by the CSI report, the  network may default to using more conservative communication parameters to prioritize link reliability at the cost of throughput.

[0021] As the UEs geographical position changes relative to cells within the network, the network may determine to perform a handover procedure to transition the UEs connection from a source cell to a target cell. One type of handover procedure is layer 1 / layer 2 triggered mobility (LTM) based handover, which involves the use of lower layer (e.g., layer 1 (L1) and / or layer 2 (L2) ) measurements and signaling to trigger and perform handover. Compared to radio resource control (RRC) based handover, in LTM most handover procedure steps, such as downlink (DL) synchronization, uplink (UL) synchronization, etc., are performed without breaking connection with the source cell, which minimizes interruption time during the handover. Furthermore, since the handover is performed using lower layer signaling, latency is also reduced compared to RRC based handover. Such reduced latency and interruption time is beneficial in time sensitive applications, such as ultra-reliable low latency communications (URLLC) , extended reality (XR) , and / or remote control use cases.

[0022] In Release-18 LTM, the UE begins reporting CSI for the target cell after the LTM handover procedure has been completed. However, this results in a delay between when the UE first establishes a connection with the target cell and when the UE is able to report CSI for the target cell. For example, after handover to the target cell is complete, the UE may wait for the target cell to provide a CSI reporting configuration before generating CSI report (s) . During this time, the network may be unable to perform effective link adaptation due to the absence of CSI information from the UE. To improve spectral efficiency, the period of time following LTM handover where the network does not have CSI information should be minimized. In some aspects, early CSI reporting is performed during or integrated with the LTM handover procedure, such that the CSI information is available at the target cell before or upon completion of the handover. The present disclosure relates to techniques for configuring and performing early CSI reporting.

[0023] Fig. 1 illustrates an example network 100 including a UE 101 and a plurality of cells 111. As shown, the plurality of cells 111 includes a serving cell 111-1, a first candidate cell 111-2, and a second candidate cell 111-2. In some examples, each cell may be included in a base station, such as an Evolved NodeB (eNB) , a next generation NodeB (gNB) , or the like.

[0024] In the example of Fig. 1, the UE 101 is initially connected to the serving cell 111-1. As shown by steps 1-4, the UE 101 may be configured to perform early CSI reporting along with an LTM handover procedure. The LTM handover procedure may switch the UEs connection from the serving cell 111-1 to a target cell, which may be the first candidate cell 111-2 or the  second candidate cell 111-3. For simplicity, the following description will generally relate to the scenario where the target cell is the first candidate cell 111-2.

[0025] As shown by step 1, in some aspects the serving cell 111-1 transmits an LTM candidate configuration to the UE 101. The LTM candidate configuration configures one or more RS resource sets for LTM measurements. The one or more RS resource sets include, for example, one or more non-zero-power channel state information reference signal (NZP-CSI-RS) resource sets and / or one or more channel station information interference measurement (CSI-IM) resource sets. In some examples, the NZP-CSI-RS resource sets are used for channel measurement, and the CSI-IM resource sets are used for interference measurement. Each RS resource set of the one or more RS resource sets may be associated with a candidate cell (e.g., the first candidate cell 111-2 or the second candidate cell 111-3 in the context of Fig. 1) . For example, a candidate cell may transmit RSs for the associated RS resource set (s) based on the LTM candidate configuration. The serving cell 111-1 may transmit the LTM candidate configuration, for example, using RRC signaling.

[0026] As shown by step 2, in some aspects the serving cell 111-1 transmits a triggering command to the UE 101 to trigger a CSI report for the first candidate cell 111-2. The triggering command may indicate information such as which candidate cell the CSI report is for, and which RS resource (s) to use for CSI measurement. For example, different codepoints of a CSI request field or a CSI triggering field of the triggering command may be used to indicate different CSI reporting configurations for different candidate cells. The different CSI reporting configurations may include different RS resources for CSI measurement, different TCI-states for CSI measurement, etc. The triggering command may be included, for example, in downlink control information (DCI) or a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) .

[0027] As shown by step 3, in some aspects the UE 101 generates an early CSI report for the first candidate cell 111-2 based on one or more RSs and the triggering command. For example the UE 101 receives and measures RSs from the first candidate cell 111-2, which are used to generate the CSI report. As described above with reference to step 2, the triggering command may indicate which candidate cell the CSI report is for, and which RS resource (s) of the candidate cell are to be used to perform the measurements for the CSI report. The UE 101 may generate the CSI report, for example, in response to receiving the triggering command of step 2.

[0028] As shown by step 4, in some aspects the UE 101 performs handover to the first candidate cell 111-2. In some examples, the handover is an LTM based. For example, the serving cell 111-1 transmits a cell-switch command via lower layer signaling (e.g., a MAC CE) , which triggers the UE 101 to switch from the serving cell 111-1 to the first candidate cell 111-2.

[0029] In some aspects, the UE 101 transmits the early CSI report before the handover is completed. For example, the UE 101 transmits the early CSI report to the serving cell 111-1 using dynamic grant (DG) (e.g., scheduled by DCI) or configured grant (CG) (e.g., configured by RRC) UL resources, and the serving cell 111-1 forwards the CSI report to the first candidate cell 111-2.

[0030] In other aspects, the UE 101 transmits the early CSI report upon completion of the handover procedure. For example, the UE 101 may transmit the early CSI report along with an RRCReconfigurationComplete message. The RRCReconfigurationComplete message may be transmitted to the target cell (e.g., serving cell 111-1 in the context of Fig. 1) , and may be transmitted at the end of the handover procedure.

[0031] Figs. 2A-2B illustrates examples of a triggering offset value 230 for indicating candidate cell measurement resources for a CSI report. In some aspects, a serving cell transmits a triggering command 212 to a UE (e.g., UE 101) , and the UE determines a time location of an aperiodic RS measurement resource 222 for a candidate cell based on a triggering offset value 230 indicated by the triggering command 212. The RS measurement resource 222 may be an aperiodic measurement resource, for example, dynamically scheduled by the network, or a periodic measurement resource configured by RRC signaling.

[0032] As shown in Figs. 2A-2B, a set of serving cell resources 210 are time aligned with a set of candidate cell resources 220. In some aspects, the serving cell resources 210 correspond to the serving cell 111-1 and the candidate cell resources 220 correspond to the first candidate cell 111-2 in the context of Fig. 1.

[0033] In the illustrated example, the serving cell transmits a triggering command 212 to the UE including an indication of the triggering offset value. The triggering command 212 may be, for example, the triggering command from step 2 of Fig. 1. The triggering offset value 230 indicates a time offset between the triggering command 212 and the RS measurement resource 222. The RS measurement resource 222 may be an NZP-CSI-RS resource or a CSI-IM resource (e.g., configured by the LTM candidate configuration) . The candidate cell may use the RS measurement resource 222 to transmit an RS to the UE.

[0034] With reference to Fig. 2A, the triggering offset value 230 may be indicated as a number of symbols. For example, a slot may comprise 14 symbols. As shown, in Fig. 2A, the triggering command 212 is transmitted in a first symbol, and the RS resource 222 is offset from the first symbol according to the triggering offset value 230. Although the triggering command 212 is illustrated as spanning one symbol, in some alternative examples, the triggering command  spans multiple symbols. In such examples, the triggering offset value 230 may be relative to a first symbol occupied by the triggering command 212.

[0035] With reference to Fig. 2B, the triggering offset value 230 may be indicated as a number of slots. As shown, in Fig. 2B, the triggering command 212 is transmitted in a first slot, and the RS resource 222 is transmitted in a second slot offset from the first slot according to the triggering offset value 230.

[0036] In some examples, a plurality of triggering offset values are configured for a plurality of corresponding RS resources. For example, a NZP-CSI-RS resource may be configured with a first triggering offset value, and a CSI-IM resource may be configured with a second triggering offset value different than the first triggering offset value. Furthermore, RS resources (either NZP-CSI-RS or CSI-IM) for different candidate cells may be configured with different triggering offset values.

[0037] In some examples, the NZP-CSI-RS resource sets are configured with a cell identity (ID) of the associated candidate cell and / or include quasi co-location (QCL) information for the CSI measurement. Such information may be used by the UE 101 to perform appropriate CSI measurements for the early CSI reporting during LTM. In some examples, the cell ID is a physical cell identity (PCI) included in an LTM-CandidatePCI field. In some examples, the QCL information includes a candidate transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state ID field (e.g., CandidateTCI-StateID field) , pointing to a candidate TCI state of the candidate cell. In other examples, the QCL information includes a reference signal index, such as a synchronization signal block (SSB) index or an NZP-CSI-RS index of the candidate cell. The cell ID and / or QCL information may be included, for example, within an NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSet IE within the LTM candidate configuration.

[0038] In the examples of Figs. 2A-2B, the network may determine or assume that a timing difference between the serving cell and the candidate cell is less than a cyclic prefix (CP) duration, and the slots may be boundary aligned. For example, the serving cell and candidate cell may operate as a time division duplex (TDD) system, or the candidate cell may be an intra-frequency candidate cell. Since the slots are boundary aligned between the serving and candidate cell and the CP duration is sufficient to compensate any timing differences therebetween, the triggering offset can be indicated with sufficient accuracy to perform measurement on the corresponding RS resources.

[0039] Figs. 3A-3B illustrate examples of a triggering offset value 330 for indicating candidate cell measurements resources for a CSI report. In some aspects, a serving cell (e.g., 111-1) transmits an RS resource configuration to a UE (e.g., UE 101) to configure one or more  RS resource sets for one or more candidate cells. For example, the RS resource configuration may be included in the LTM candidate configuration. Subsequently, the serving cell transmits a triggering command 312 to the UE, and the UE determines which RS resource from an RS resource set to use for CSI measurement, based on a triggering offset value 330. The triggering offset value 330 may be configured, for example, as part of a subcarrier spacing configuration.

[0040] As shown in Figs. 3A-3B, a set of serving cell resources 310 are time offset relative to a set of candidate cell resources 320. Accordingly, the slot boundaries for the serving cell resources 310 and the candidate cell resources 320 occur at different points in time. In some aspects, the serving cell resources 310 correspond to the serving cell 111-1 and the candidate cell resources correspond to the first candidate cell 111-2 in the context of Fig. 1.

[0041] In some examples, the serving cell transmits an RS resource configuration to the UE to configure one or more RS resource sets for the candidate cell. In some examples, the RS resource configuration configures the one or more RS resource sets using a periodicity and offset, which may be a periodicity and offset relative to a subcarrier spacing configuration of the candidate cell. These values may be shared for all resources in a resource set (s) of the candidate cell. For example, four RS resources are included in a RS resource set. A periodicity and an offset value are commonly applied for all four RS resources in a same resource set. As shown, the RS resource configuration may configure a first RS resource 322A, a second RS resource 322B, and a third RS resource 322C for the candidate cell. A time location of the first RS resource 322A may be determined based on the configured offset, and a time between the first, second, and third RS resources 322A, 322B, 322C may be determined based on the configured periodicity. The first, second, and third RS resources 322A, 322B, 322C may be for a same type of RS, such as NZP-CSI-RS or CSI-IM. In some examples, the one or more RS resource sets configured by the RS resource configuration include one or more NZP-CSI-RS resource sets and / or one or more CSI-IM resource sets. In some examples, each CSI-IM resource set is associated with an NZP-CSI-RS resource set to form a pair of NZP-CSI-RS and CSI-IM resources for each candidate cell.

[0042] The serving cell transmits a triggering command 312 to trigger a CSI report for the candidate cell. The UE may determine which RS resource to use for CSI measurement based on a symbol in which the triggered command 312 was received and a triggering offset value 330. In some examples, the triggering offset value 330 is indicated as a number of symbols. The triggering offset value 330 may be indicated, for example, in a subcarrier spacing configuration.

[0043] In the example of Fig. 3A, the triggering offset value 330 is relative to a last symbol of the triggering command 312. In some aspects, the UE measures a first RS occurring at least  ‘k’ number of symbols after a last symbol of the triggering command 312, where ‘k’ is equal to the triggering offset value 330. In the illustrated example, the UE measures the second RS resource 322B. The UE may generate the CSI report for the candidate cell based on the measurement of the second RS resource 322B. In some examples, the RS resource 322B corresponds to a NZP-CSI-RS resource, and the UE measures a separate CSI-IM resource based on the NZP-CSI-RS and CSI-IM pairing. Alternatively, the RS resource 322B corresponds to a CSI-IM resource, and the UE measures the corresponding NZP-CSI-RS resource based on the pairing.

[0044] In some examples, the triggering offset value 330 is indicated in a subcarrier spacing configuration (e.g., in a system information block (SIB) or in a dedicated RRC signal) . In some examples, a set of ‘k’ values are indicated in each subcarrier spacing (SCS) configuration or predefined in 3GPP specifications for each SCS configuration, and the UE selects a specific value for ‘k’ for each SCS configuration and reports it in a UE capability report.

[0045] Fig. 3B resembles Fig. 3A, but differs in that the triggering offset value 330 is relative to a last symbol of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback 313 corresponding to the triggering command 312. For example, the UE may transmit the HARQ feedback 313 to indicate whether the triggering command 312 was successfully received (e.g., by indicating ACK or NACK) .

[0046] Fig. 4 illustrates an example configuration of candidate cell measurement resources for a CSI report. In some aspects, a serving cell (e.g., 111-1) transmits a RS resource configuration to a UE (e.g., UE 101) to configure one or more RS resource sets for one or more candidate cells. For example, the RS resource configuration may be included in the LTM candidate configuration. Upon receiving the RS resource configuration, the UE begins to measure the configured RS resources and stores measurement results in memory. Subsequently, the serving cell transmits a triggering command 412 to the UE, and the UE generates the CSI report based on the latest measurement result relative to when the triggering command 412 was received. Compared to Figs. 3A-3B, the CSI report of Fig. 4 may have reduced latency, while Figs. 3A-3B may have reduced signal overhead and power consumption.

[0047] Similar to Figs. 3A-3B, Fig. 4 illustrates a set of serving cell resources 410 that are time offset relative to a set of candidate cell resources 420. In the example of Fig. 4, the UE begins measuring the configured RS resources upon receiving the RS resource configuration from the serving cell. Accordingly, the UE measures the first RS resource 422A and the second RS resource 422B.

[0048] The serving cell may transmit triggering command 412 to the UE. In response to receiving the triggering command 412, the UE generates a CSI report based on the latest available RS measurement result. In the illustrated example, at the time of receiving the triggering command 412, the measurement result of the RS resource 422B is the latest available RS measurement result. Accordingly, the UE generates the CSI report based on the measurement of the RS resource 422B. The RS resource may be an NZP-CSI-RS resource, or a CSI-IM resource.

[0049] Fig. 5 illustrates an example of an LTM candidate configuration including one or more RS resource sets. In some aspects, a serving cell (e.g., 111-1) provides the LTM candidate configuration, and the LTM candidate configuration configures one or more RS resource sets for one or more candidate cells. In some examples, the LTM candidate configuration carries the RS resource configuration, as described with reference to Figs. 3A-3B or Fig. 4 and throughout the present disclosure.

[0050] In some examples, a serving cell (e.g., 111-1) provides an LTM candidate configuration for each candidate cell (e.g., 111-2, 111-3, etc. ) , which is illustrated by first, second, and third LTM-Candidate-r18 IEs 510A, 510B, 510C. For example, the first IE 510A is for the first candidate cell 111-2, the second IE 510B is for the second candidate cell 111-3, and the third IE 510C is for a third candidate cell (e.g., 111-4 –not shown for simplicity) . The IEs 510A, 510B, 510C may contain similar fields, and provide similar configuration for their respective cells. For ease of description, reference will generally be made to the first IE 510A.

[0051] In the illustrated example, the first LTM-Candidate-r18 IE 510A includes a LTM-NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSet (s) field 530 and a LTM-CSI-IM-ResourceSet (s) field 540. The field 530 indicates one or more NZP-CSI-RS resource sets, and the field 540 indicates one or more CSI-IM resource sets. The fields 530, 540 may indicate the resource sets, for example, using an offset and periodicity. The offset and periodicity may be based on a subcarrier spacing of the serving cell, as previously described.

[0052] The first LTM-Candidate-r18 IE 510A further includes a set of fields 520. The set of fields 520 may include one or more of: an LTM-CandidateID field, a LTM-CandidatePCI field, a LTM-SSB-Config field, a LTM-earlyUL-SyncConfig field, or an LTM-TCI-Info field.

[0053] In some aspects, one or more fields of the IE 510A indicate information for CSI reporting as described throughout the present disclosure. For example, the LTM-CandidatePCI field indicates a PCI of the candidate cell for which the LTM candidate configuration is for, as described with reference to Fig. 1.

[0054] Fig. 6 illustrates an example CSI measurement configuration IE 630 for configuring LTM CSI measurement reporting. In some examples, the CSI measurement configuration IE 630 (e.g., CSI-MeasConfig) includes a list of LTM CSI report configuration IEs 640 (e.g., LTM-CSI-ReportConfig-R19 list) . Further, the CSI measurement configuration IE 630 is included in a serving cell configuration IE 620 (e.g., ServingCellConfig) , which is included in an RRC reconfiguration message 610.

[0055] In some aspects, a list of LTM CSI report configuration IEs 640 configures a mapping between codepoints and RS resource sets on different candidate cells. In the illustrated example, a first LTM CSI report configuration 640A maps a codepoint x to a pair of NZP-CSI-RS resource set and CSI-IM resource set on a first candidate cell (e.g., 111-2) . Further, a second LTM CSI report configuration 640B maps a codepoint y to a pair of NZP-CSI-RS resource set and CSI-IM resource set on a second candidate cell (e.g., 111-3) . The pair of NZP-CSI-RS resource set and CSI-IM resource set are configured in an LTM candidate IE that provides configurations for the second candidate cell. The codepoints x, y may be included as part of a “CSI request” field of DCI to indicate which CSI report configuration to use according to the mapping.

[0056] Fig. 7 illustrates an example of signaling between the UE 101, the serving cell 111-1, and the (first) candidate cell 111-2 for early CSI reporting during an LTM handover procedure. In some aspects, the UE 101 transmits the early CSI report for the candidate cell 111-2 to the serving cell 111-1, and the serving cell 111-1 forwards the early CSI report to the candidate cell 111-2 via the Xn interface.

[0057] At act 702, the serving cell 111-1 transmits an LTM candidate configuration to the UE 101. The LTM candidate configuration may configure one or more RS resource sets (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS and / or CSI-IM) for LTM measurements, for one or more candidate cells as previously described. In some examples, the LTM candidate configure further configures an association between codepoints and RS resource sets on different candidate cells, for example, as described with reference to Fig. 6.

[0058] At act 704, the UE 101 transmits an L1-RSRP report to the serving cell 111-1. For example, the UE 101 may perform channel measurement on NZP-CS-RS resource set (s) and interference measurement on CSI-IM resource set (s) , and generate the L1-RSRP report based on the channel and interference measurements.

[0059] At act 706, the UE 101 performs DL pre-synchronization with the candidate cell 111-2. For example, the source serving cell transmits a MAC CE, named Candidate Cell TCI  state activation, to the UE. The UE will add the indicated beam of the LTM candidate cell and start synchronizing to it in the downlink.

[0060] At act 708, the serving cell 111-1 transmits a triggering command to the UE 101 to trigger an aperiodic CSI report for the candidate cell 111-2. In some examples, the triggering command is included in a DCI, and the DCI further includes a CSI request field indicating a codepoint. Different codepoints of the CSI request field may be used to trigger CSI reporting associated with candidate cell (s) and CSI reporting associated with the serving cell. Based on the indicated codepoint and the LTM candidate configuration from act 702, the UE 101 may determine which cell the CSI report is for, and which RS resource sets for the cell to use when generating the CSI report. In the example of Fig. 7, the codepoint mapping indicates that the triggered CSI report is for the candidate cell 111-2.

[0061] At act 710, the candidate cell 111-2 transmits reference signals to the UE 101, which may be measured by the UE 101 to generate the triggered CSI report for the candidate cell 111-2.For example, the reference signals include NZP-CSI-RS and / or CSI-IM.

[0062] At act 712, the UE 101 transmits the CSI report for the candidate cell 111-2, to the serving cell 111-1, and the serving cell 111-1 forwards the CSI report to the candidate cell 111-2. The serving cell 111-1 may forward to the CSI report to the candidate cell 111-2 via the Xn interface, for example, when the serving cell 111-1 and the candidate cell 111-2 operate in an inter centralized unit (CU) scenario.

[0063] In some examples, the UE 101 transmits the CSI report using RRC configured UL resources, for example, type-2 configured grant CG resources. In alternative examples, the UE 101 transmits the CSI report using PUSCH dynamically scheduled by the DCI that includes the CSI request field triggering the report. The CSI report may include one or more report quantities, such as: a CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) , a rank indicator (RI) , a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) , and / or a channel quality indicator (CQI) . In some examples, the CSI report quantities are for a Type-1 codebook

[0064] At act 714, the serving cell 111-1 determines to initiate LTM based handover, for example, based on the L1-RSRP report.

[0065] At act 716, the serving cell 111-1 transmits a cell-switch command to the UE 101 to initiate LTM based handover. For example, the cell-switch command is included in a cell-switch command MAC CE. In some examples, the cell-switch command MAC CE is scheduled by DCI, which may be a different DCI than the triggering command DCI of act 708. Since the UE 101 provides the CSI report before receiving the cell-switch command, the CSI will be available at the candidate cell 111-2 after cell-switch is completed.

[0066] Fig. 8 illustrates an example of signaling between the UE 101, the serving cell 111-1, and the candidate cell 111-2 for early CSI report during an LTM handover procedure. In some aspects, Fig. 8 resembles Fig. 7, but differs in that the UE 101 transmits the CSI report for the candidate cell 111-2 directly to the candidate cell 111-2.

[0067] At act 802, the serving cell 111-1 transmits an LTM candidate configuration to the UE 101 (e.g., similar to act 702) .

[0068] At act 804, the UE 101 transmits an L1-RSRP report to the serving cell 111-1 (e.g., similar to act 704) .

[0069] At act 806, the UE 101 performs DL pre-synchronization with the candidate cell 111-2. For example, the source serving cell transmits a MAC CE, named Candidate Cell TCI state activation, to the UE. The UE will add the indicated beam of the LTM candidate cell and start synchronizing to it in the downlink.

[0070] At act 808, the serving cell 111-1 transmits a triggering command to the UE 101 (e.g., similar to act 708) . In some examples, the triggering command includes a codepoint within a CSI request field to trigger the CSI report, as previously described.

[0071] At act 810, the candidate cell 111-2 transmits reference signals to the UE 101 (e.g., similar to act 710) .

[0072] At act 812, the UE generates CSI for the candidate cell 111-2 based on the measurements at act 810. In some aspects, act 812 differs from Fig. 7 in that, once the triggered CSI report is ready, the UE 101 stores the CSI in memory for transmission at a later time and starts a timer. The timer may represent a time duration in which the CSI remains accurate and / or useful for channel estimation. Upon expiration of the timer, the UE may discard the CSI from memory. In some examples, the timer is configured as part of LTM configuration and shared for all candidate cells.

[0073] At act 814, the serving cell 111-1 determines to initiate LTM based handover for the UE 101 (e.g., to handover to the candidate cell 111-2) . For example, the LTM decision may be based on the L1-RSRP report of act 804.

[0074] At act 816, the serving cell 111-1 transmits a cell-switch command to the UE 101. In some examples, the cell-switch command is included in a cell-switch command MAC CE, as previously described. In some examples, the MAC CE is scheduled by DCI, and the codepoint for the triggered CSI report is included in the DCI that schedules the MAC CE (e.g., instead of a separate triggering command DCI) .

[0075] At act 818, the serving cell the UE 101 transmits the CSI report to the candidate cell 111-2 based on the CSI from act 812.

[0076] In some examples, the cell-switch command from act 816 triggers a random access channel (RACH) procedure, and the UE 101 transmits the CSI report as part of the RACH procedure. For example, the UE 101 transmits the CSI report as part of Msg3 or Msg5 of the RACH procedure. The RACH procedure may be, for example, a contention-based RACH procedure (CBRA) , or a contention-free RACH procedure (CFRA) .

[0077] In some alternative examples, the CSI report is included in an RRC reconfiguration complete message at the end of the LTM handover procedure. For example, a DG physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) resource or a CG PUSCH resource used to transmit the RRC reconfiguration complete message may additionally be used to carry the CSI report. In some examples, the DG or CG PUSCH resource is only used to convey the CSI report if no RACH procedure was triggered.

[0078] In the event that the timer from act 812 expired (and the CSI was discarded) before act 818, then the UE 101 may wait for the next NZP-CSI-RS set transmission from the serving cell 111-2 to re-evaluate the CSI.

[0079] Fig. 9 illustrates an example of different TCI states of the candidate cell 111-2. In the example of Fig. 9, the UE 101 may determine a TCI state of the candidate cell 111-2 to use, for example, when performing LTM based handover from the serving cell 111-1 to the candidate cell 111-2. As shown, the UE 101 may moving towards the candidate cell 111-2 and approaching the cell edge of the serving cell 111-1. In the illustrated example, the different TCI states include an LTM-TCI-State #6 910 and an LTM-TCI-State #8 920.

[0080] In some aspects, the UE 101 determines parameters for the triggered CSI report based on a codepoint value. For example, the codepoint value may be indicated in a CSI request field of DCI that schedules an LTM switch command MAC CE.

[0081] In some examples, the UE 101 determines a mapping 930 between a codepoint value and an aperiodic CSI report based on RRC configuration. The aperiodic CSI report may be configured by one or more parameters, which may include one or more of: a cell ID value for the CSI report, a resource for CSI measurement, or an LTM TCI state. In some examples, the UE 101 determines the mapping based RRC signaling from the serving cell, such as the LTM candidate configuration.

[0082] In some examples, the LTM candidate configuration includes a set of LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IEs, which may correspond to the ‘Resource for CSI Measurement’ column of the mapping 910. Each LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IE may include a pair of <NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSet, CSI-IM-ResourceSet> and be identified by a LTM-CSI-ResourceConfigId.

[0083] In the illustrated example, the codepoint value indicated by the DCI may be ‘1000’ . Accordingly, the UE 101 may determine that the early CSI report is for LTM Candidate Cell #1 (e.g., 111-2) , and that LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig #c1 and a receive (Rx) beam associated with LTM TCI-State #6 are to be used for the CSI measurement.

[0084] Fig. 10 illustrates an example of DCI 1010 and a MAC CE 1020 for triggering a CSI report. In some aspects, a UE (e.g., UE 101) determines an LTM CSI resource configuration for the CSI report based on the DCI, and determines a cell ID for the CSI report based on the MAC CE.The DCI 1010 and the MAC 1020 may be transmitted to the UE, for example, by a serving cell (e.g., 111-1) .

[0085] In the illustrated example, the DCI 1010 includes a CSI request field 1012 and one or more other fields 1014. The one or more other fields 1014 may be used to schedule the MAC CE 1020. In some examples, the MAC 1020 comprises a cell-switch command MAC CE. The MAC CE 1020 includes a cell ID 1040 of the candidate cell.

[0086] In some examples, the CSI request field 1012 is used to select an LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IE from a set of LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IEs configured for the candidate cell. For example, the UE determines the candidate cell based on the cell ID 1040, and determines an LTM-CSI-ResourceConfigID 1030 for an LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IE among a set of LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IEs, based on the CSI request field 1012. The UE may perform CSI reporting based on the determined LTM-CSI-ResourceConfigID 1030 and the cell ID 1040

[0087] Fig. 11 illustrates an alternative example of DCI 1010 and a MAC CE 1020 for triggering a CSI report. In some aspects, Fig. 11 resembles Fig. 10, but differs in that the MAC CE 1020 further includes an LTM TCI-State 1150. In some aspects, the UE selects an LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig if a corresponding NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSet of the LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig is configured with a TCI-state as QCL information, and the TCI-state is associated with the LTM TCI-State 1150. The LTM TCI-State 1150 may be included, for example, in a ‘TCI-State ID’ field of the MAC CE 1020.

[0088] In some examples, K number of LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IEs are associated with an LTM-TCI-State (e.g., a DL beam) . The CSI request field 1012 may have K number of possible codepoint values of the CSI request field 1012, with a one to one mapping between codepoint value and LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IE for the LTM-TCI-State. Accordingly, each codepoint value may correspond to a single LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IE for the LTM-TCI-State (e.g., 1150) indicated by the MAC CE 1020.

[0089] With reference to Figs. 10-11, in some examples, when the CSI request field 1012 contains all zeroes, then the CSI report for the candidate cell is not triggered. In some examples,  the triggered CSI report for the candidate cell is transmitted by the UE to the candidate cell. For example, the UE transmits the CSI report on a PUSCH carrying an RRCReconfigurationComplete message, or Msg3 or Msg5 PUSCH (e.g., during a RACH procedure) .

[0090] Fig. 12 illustrates an example MAC CE 1200. In some aspects, the MAC CE 1200 triggers a CSI report for a candidate cell. In some examples, the MAC CE 1200 is a cell-switch command MAC CE. The MAC CE 1200 includes a first octet 1210, a second octet 1220, a third octet 1230, a fourth octet 1240, a fifth octet 1250, a sixth octet 1260, and a seventh octet 1270.

[0091] The first octet 1210 includes a C bit that indicate the presence of the contention free Random Access Resource fields in the MAC CE, three bits for a target config ID, and four bits for a taming advance (TA) command.

[0092] The second octet 1220 includes eight additional bits for the TA command.

[0093] The third octet 1230 includes a reserved bit, and seven bits for a TCI state ID.

[0094] The fourth octet 1240 includes two reserved bits, and six bits for a UL TCI state ID.

[0095] The fifth octet 1250 includes six bits for a random access preamble index, and two bits for a synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel (SS / PBCH) index.

[0096] The sixth octet 1260 includes four bits for an additional SS / PBCH index, and four bits for a physical random access channel (PRACH) mask index.

[0097] The seventh octet 1270 includes six reserved bits, a S / U bit that indicates which UL carrier to transmit the PRACH when supplementary UL is configured, and two bits for a repetition number.

[0098] In some aspects, one or more of the six reserved bits of the seventh octet 1270 are used for a CSI triggering field. For example, S number of the six reserved bits can be used for the CSI triggering field, where S=log2 (M+1) , where M represents the maximum number of LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IEs associated with a single LTM-TCI-State across a set of configured candidate cells. The set of candidate cells may be configured, for example, by RRC signaling (e.g., by the LTM candidate configuration) .

[0099] In some examples, the UE triggers the CSI report for the candidate cell based on the CSI triggering field. Further, the UE may trigger the CSI report based on the target config ID field of the first octet 1210, and the TCI state ID field of the third octet 1230 or the SS / PBCH index field of the fifth octet. For example, the UE may determine the candidate cell to perform CSI measurement on based on the target config ID field. Further, the UE may use the TCI state ID field or the SS / PBCH index field in combination with the CSI triggering field to determine a  single LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IE from the set of LTM-CSI-ResourceConfig IEs associated with the TCI-State ID for the CSI report.

[0100] In some examples, a CSI triggering field with a value of all zeroes indications that no CSI report is triggered for the candidate cell.

[0101] Fig. 13 illustrates an example of REs 1300 allocated for a PUSCH transmission carrying a CSI report to a candidate cell. In some aspects, a UE (e.g., 101) transmits a CSI report to a candidate cell (e.g., 111-2) .

[0102] As shown in Fig. 13, subcarriers in a resource block are shown on the vertical axis, and symbols in a slot are shown on the horizontal axis. A number of REs are allocated for CSI transmission on PUSCH to the candidate cell, and a number of REs are allocated for demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) transmission.

[0103] In some examples, the UE 101 determines a number of REs for the PUSCH transmission carrying the CSI report based on a beta offset value. For example, a separate early beta offset value may be provided as part of a UE specific configuration, or a cell specific configuration. For the UE specific configuration, the early beta offset value may be provided in the dedicated LTM candidate configuration for a given UE. For the cell specific configuration, the early beta offset value may be provided in a system information block (SIB) of the candidate cell, which may be applied for all UEs that are LTM switched to the candidate cell.

[0104] In some examples, if no RACH procedure is triggered by the LTM cell-switch command, the UE uses the beta offset value that is configured by the serving cell to determine the RE numbers for CSI on the candidate cell. In such examples, the CSI report may be multiplexed in the PUSCH that carries the RRC reconfiguration complete message to the candidate cell at the end of the LTM cell-switch procedure.

[0105] In some examples, a separate beta offset value is hard-encoded in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specification. For example, the separate beta offset value may be a largest value of beta offset within a beta offset value table, and the UE may be configured to use the largest beta offset value in the table for early CSI reporting. For example, the largest beta offset value in the table may be configured as β early-csi offset = 20.

[0106] In some examples, the UE determines the REs for PUSCH transmission Q’CSI-1 based on the following equation:

[0107] Q′ACK: the number of HARQ-ACK symbols. Q′early-CSI: is the number of bits used for early CSI report for candidate cell;

[0108] Q′early-CSI: is the number of symbols used for early CSI report for candidate cell;

[0109] Learly-CSI: the number of CRC bits for early CSI report

[0110] beta offset value configured by RRC for the early CSI report.

[0111] the number of resource elements that can be used for transmission of UCI in OFDM symbol l;

[0112] α: configured byy RRC signaling.

[0113] the total number of OFDM symbols of the symbols of the PUSCH.

[0114] Where β is the beta offset value, which may be determined according to the aforementioned techniques.
