Abstract

Methods, systems, and techniques are disclosed for reporting applicable functionalities associated with machine learning (ML) models, such as from a user equipment (UE) to a network entity. To apply ML (or artificial intelligence (AI) ) for the use cases or sub-use cases, a ML functionality may be defined and activated. An example method by a UE includes transmitting, to a network entity, a plurality of supported functionalities (e.g., in a first message). The plurality of supported functionalities may be associated with one or more ML models or otherwise coordinate communications between the UE and the network entity. The UE transmits, to the network entity, applicable functionality information that maps to a corresponding supported functionality of the plurality of supported functionalities (e.g., in a third message). In some cases, the UE receives a second message from the network entity indicating configuration information for the UE to determine the applicable functionality information.

Description

SUPPORTED FUNCTIONALITIES AND APPLICABLE FUNCTIONALITIES REPORTING IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONFIELD

[0001] This disclosure relates generally to wireless communications and, more particularly, to indicating communication operations involving machine learning models.BACKGROUND

[0002] This background description is provided for the purpose of generally presenting the context of the disclosure. Work of the presently named inventors, to the extent as described in this background section, as well as aspects of the description that may not otherwise qualify as prior art at the time of filing, is neither expressly nor impliedly admitted as prior art against the present disclosure.

[0003] To apply ML (or artificial intelligence (AI) ) in wireless communication, for different use cases or sub-use cases, a ML functionality may be defined and activated. In an aspect, one functionality may be associated with one or multiple AI / ML models. In other aspects, one AI / ML model is shared by different functionalities. For example, multiple functionalities may be associated with the same AI / ML model. Using functionality-based control, the network (NW) may perform at least one of the following operations, including functionality identification, functionality selection, functionality activation, functionality deactivation, functionality switching, fallback to non-AI operation, among others.

[0004] Generally, radio resource control (RRC) signaling or the long term evolution (LTE) positioning protocol (LPP) signaling may be used for defining the message to report the applicable functionality. For detailed reporting scheme, however, such signaling is insufficient for determining and reporting the applicable functionality. It is desirable to have other mechanisms, in addition to the RRC signaling or LPP signaling, for determining and reporting the applicable functionality and improve AI / ML model utilization or activation between the UE and the NW.SUMMARY

[0005] The present disclosure provides methods, systems, and techniques for reporting applicable functionalities associated with machine learning (ML) models, such as from a user  equipment (UE) to a network entity. The present disclosure provides techniques and methods on how to determine and report the applicable functionality information on the UE side. In an example communication method herein, AI / ML in a radio access network (RAN) is used to implement network intelligence and to provide an efficient RAN. The application of AI / ML may be used in air-interface, Xn connectivity, and / or other interfaces corresponding to different use cases. For example, air interfaces implementing AI / ML models include channel state information (CSI) feedback enhancement, beam management, positioning accuracy enhancement, among others. The present disclosure provides example methods for the applicable functionality information reporting from UE to NW, including detailed format / content of the reported applicable functionality information, reporting mechanism for the applicable functionality information reporting, and determining applicable functionality information.

[0044] The present disclosure provides techniques for reporting applicable functionalities associated with machine learning (ML) models, such as from a user equipment (UE) to a network entity. In aspects, example methods are provided for the applicable functionality information reporting from UE to NW. The example methods include detailed format / content of the reported applicable functionality information, reporting mechanism for the applicable functionality information reporting, and determining applicable functionality information. The present disclosure also provides techniques and methods on how to determine and report the applicable functionality information on the UE side.

[0045] To apply ML (or artificial intelligence (AI) ) for the use cases or sub-use cases, a ML functionality may be defined and activated. In an example communication method herein, AI / ML in a radio access network (RAN) is used to implement network intelligence and to provide an efficient RAN. The  application of AI / ML may be used in air-interface, Xn connectivity, and / or other interfaces corresponding to different use cases. For example, air interfaces implementing AI / ML models include channel state information (CSI) feedback enhancement, beam management, positioning accuracy enhancement, layer 1 and / or layer 3 measurement result prediction, among others.

[0046] During operation, the AI / ML model may be deployed on the UE side and / or NW side. When the model is deployed, the related entity often performs the inference correspondingly. For the model whose inference is performed entirely at the UE, the ML model is called a UE-side model. For the model whose inference is performed entirely at the network entity, the ML model is called a network-side model. In some embodiments, both of UE-side and network-side models may be considered as a one-sided model. In some embodiments, a two-sided model may be used (e.g., a paired AI / ML model) over which joint inference is performed across UE and the network entity. For example, the first part of inference is firstly performed by UE, and then the remaining part is performed by the network entity, or vice versa.

[0047] For functionality-based control of UE-side model, UE may provide the supported functionality information to the network. The supported functionalities refer to functionalities that UE supports based on the UE capability. For example, the UE indicates the supported functionality information to the network, e.g., by using UE capability information (via RRC / LPP signaling) . Not all the supported functionalities may be activated on the UE side. Therefore, the UE may report the applicable and / or candidate functionality information to the network and have the network decide which functionality or functionalities to activate. The applicable functionalities refer to functionalities associated with AI / ML models that the UE is ready to apply for inference. The applicable functionalities may be the same as or within the scope of supported functionalities. The candidate functionalities refer to functionalities that include the candidates to be applicable. The difference between candidate functionality and applicable one is that there is no available model for the functionality at UE side. In this application, the descriptions of applicable functionality are provided for illustration. Similar description can be applied to the candidate functionality information, e.g., with or without update (s) . For example, the descriptions for UE to determine / report applicable functionality information can be extended for UE to determine / report applicable functionality information and / or candidate functionality information.

[0048] Aspects of this disclosure for reporting applicable functionalities include a wireless communication method by a UE. The example method includes transmitting, to a network entity, a first message indicating a plurality of supported functionalities (e.g., associated with one or more ML models or otherwise used in communications between the UE and the network entity) ; optionally receiving, from the network entity, a second message indicating configuration information associated with one or more of the plurality of supported functionalities; and transmitting, to the network entity, a third message indicating at least one applicable functionality based on the configuration information, the applicable functionality being associated with an identifier that maps to a corresponding supported functionality of the plurality of supported functionalities.

[0049] Complimentary aspects of the disclosure include an example method of receiving, from a UE, a first message indicating a plurality of supported functionalities (e.g., associated with one or more ML models) ; optionally transmitting, to the UE, a second message indicating configuration information associated with one or more of the plurality of supported functionalities; and receiving, from the UE, a third message indicating at least one applicable functionality based on the configuration information, the applicable functionality being associated with an identifier that maps to a corresponding supported functionality of the plurality of supported functionalities.

[0050] Fig. 1 illustrates a diagram 100 of a wireless communications system associated with multiple cells 190. The wireless communications system includes user equipments (UEs) 102 and base stations / network entities 104. Some base stations may include an aggregated base station architecture and other base stations may include a disaggregated base station architecture. The aggregated base station architecture utilizes a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single radio access network (RAN) node. A disaggregated base station architecture utilizes a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more units (e.g., radio unit (RU) 106, distributed unit (DU) 108, central unit (CU) 110) . For example, a CU 110 is implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs 108 may be co-located with the CU 110, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed throughout one or multiple other RAN nodes. The DUs 108 may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs 106. Any of the RU 106, the DU 108 and the CU 110 may  be implemented as virtual units, such as a virtual radio unit (VRU) , a virtual distributed unit (VDU) , or a virtual central unit (VCU) . The base station / network entity 104 (e.g., an aggregated base station or disaggregated units of the base station, such as the RU 106 or the DU 108) , may be referred to as a transmission reception point (TRP) . The network entity 104 can be a RAN entity or core network (CN) entity in this application. For example, the network entity 104 can be the location management function (LMF) entity (e.g., for positioning use cases) . The descriptions of network entity is just for illustration and does not show any limitation on the implementation. In some cases, the network entity includes a high-level entity including CN and / or RAN entities.

[0051] Operations of the base station (BS) 104 and / or network designs may be based on aggregation characteristics of base station functionality. For example, disaggregated base station architectures are utilized in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open-radio access network (O-RAN) network, or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) , which may also be referred to a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) . Disaggregation may include distributing functionality across the two or more units at various physical locations, as well as distributing functionality for at least one unit virtually, which may enable flexibility in network designs. The various units of the disaggregated base station architecture, or the disaggregated RAN architecture, may be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit. For example, the base stations (BSs) 104d, 104e and / or the RUs 106a, 106b, 106c, 106d may communicate with the UEs 102a, 102b, 102c, 102d, and / or 102s via one or more radio frequency (RF) access links based on a Uu interface. In examples, multiple RUs 106 and / or BSs 104 may simultaneously serve the UEs 102, such as by intra-cell and / or inter-cell access links between the UEs 102 and the RUs 106 / BSs 104.

[0052] The RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110 may include (or may be coupled to) one or more interfaces configured to transmit or receive information / signals via a wired or wireless transmission medium. For example, a wired interface may be configured to transmit or receive the information / signals over a wired transmission medium, such as via the fronthaul link 160 between the RU 106d and the baseband unit (BBU) 112 of the BS 104d associated with the cell 190d. The BBU 112 includes a DU 108 and a CU 110, which may also have a wired interface (e.g., midhaul link 162) configured between the DU 108 and the CU 110 to transmit or receive the information / signals between the DU 108 and the CU 110. In further examples, a wireless  interface, which may include a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver, such as an RF transceiver, configured to transmit and / or receive the information / signals via the wireless transmission medium, such as for information communicated between the RU 106a of the cell 190a and the BS 104e of the cell 190e via cross-cell communication beams 136-138 of the RU 106a and the BS 104e.

[0053] The RUs 106 may be configured to implement lower layer functionality. For example, the RU 106 is controlled by the DU 108 and may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions, or lower layer PHY functionality, such as execution of fast Fourier transform (FFT) , inverse FFT (iFFT) , digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc. The functionality of the RU 106 may be based on the functional split, such as a functional split of lower layers.

[0054] The RUs 106 may transmit or receive over-the-air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 102. For example, the RU 106b of the cell 190b communicates with the UE 102b of the cell 190b via a first set of communication beams 132 of the RU 106b and a second set of communication beams 134b of the UE 102b, which may correspond to inter-cell communication beams or, in some examples, cross-cell communication beams. For instance, the UE 102b of the cell 190b may communicate with the RU 106a of the cell 190a via a third set of communication beams 134a of the UE 102b and a fourth set of communication beams 136 of the RU 106a. DUs 108 may control both real-time and non-real-time features of control plane and user plane communications of the RUs 106.

[0055] Any combination of the RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110, or reference thereto individually, may correspond to a BS 104. Thus, the BS 104 may include at least one of the RU 106, the DU 108, or the CU 110. The BSs 104 provide the UEs 102 with access to a core network (CN) . The BSs 104 may relay communications between the UEs 102 and the core network (not shown) . The BSs 104 may be associated with macrocells for higher-power cellular base stations and / or small cells for lower-power cellular base stations. For example, the cell 190e may correspond to a macrocell, whereas the cells 190a-190d may correspond to small cells. Small cells include femtocells, picocells, microcells, etc. A network that includes at least one macrocell and at least one small cell may be referred to as a “heterogeneous network. ”

[0056] Transmissions from a UE 102 to a BS 104 / RU 106 are referred to as uplink (UL) transmissions, whereas transmissions from the BS 104 / RU 106 to the UE 102 are referred to as downlink (DL) transmissions. Uplink transmissions may also be referred to as reverse link transmissions and downlink transmissions may also be referred to as forward link transmissions. For example, the RU 106d utilizes antennas of the BS 104d of cell 190d to transmit a downlink / forward link communication to the UE 102d or receive an uplink / reverse link communication from the UE 102d based on the Uu interface associated with the access link between the UE 102d and the BS 104d / RU 106d.

[0057] Communication links between the UEs 102 and the BSs 104 / RUs 106 may be based on multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. The communication links may be associated with one or more carriers. The UEs 102 and the BSs 104 / RUs 106 may utilize a spectrum bandwidth of Y MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400, 800, 1600, 2000, etc. MHz) per carrier allocated in a carrier aggregation of up to a total of Yx MHz, where x component carriers (CCs) are used for communication in each of the uplink and downlink directions. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other along a frequency spectrum. In examples, uplink and downlink carriers may be allocated in an asymmetric manner, with more or fewer carriers allocated to either the uplink or the downlink. A primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers may be included in the component carriers. The primary component carrier may be associated with a primary cell (Pcell) and a secondary component carrier may be associated with a secondary cell (Scell) .

[0058] Some UEs 102, such as the UEs 102a and 102s, may perform device-to-device (D2D) communications over sidelink. For example, a sidelink communication / D2D link utilizes a spectrum for a wireless wide area network (WWAN) associated with uplink and downlink communications. Such sidelink / D2D communication may be performed through various wireless communications systems, such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems, Bluetooth systems, Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, New Radio (NR) systems, etc.

[0059] The UEs 102 and the BSs 104 / RUs 106 may each include multiple antennas. The multiple antennas may correspond to antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays that may facilitate beamforming operations. For example, the RU 106b transmits a downlink  beamformed signal based on a first set of communication beams 132 to the UE 102b in one or more transmit directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may receive the downlink beamformed signal based on a second set of communication beams 134b from the RU 106b in one or more receive directions of the UE 102b. In a further example, the UE 102b may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal (e.g., sounding reference signal (SRS) ) to the RU 106b based on the second set of communication beams 134b in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102b. The RU 106b may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102b in one or more receive directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may perform beam training to determine the best receive and transmit directions for the beamformed signals. The transmit and receive directions for the UEs 102 and the BSs 104 / RUs 106 may or may not be the same.

[0060] In further examples, beamformed signals may be communicated between a first base station / RU 106a and a second BS 104e. For instance, the BS 104e of the cell 190e may transmit a beamformed signal to the RU 106a based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the BS 104e. The RU 106a may receive the beamformed signal from the BS 104e of the cell 190e based on the RU communication beams 136 in one or more receive directions of the RU 106a. In further examples, the BS 104e transmits a downlink beamformed signal to the UE 102e based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the BS 104e. The UE 102e receives the downlink beamformed signal from the BS 104e based on UE communication beams 130 in one or more receive directions of the UE 102e. The UE 102e may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal to the BS 104e based on the UE communication beams 130 in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102e, such that the BS 104e may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102e in one or more receive directions of the BS 104e.

[0061] The BS 104 may include and / or be referred to as a network entity. That is, “network entity” may refer to the BS 104 or at least one unit of the BS 104, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, and / or the CU 110. The BS 104 may also include and / or be referred to as a next generation evolved Node B (ng-eNB) , a next generation NB (gNB) , an evolved NB (eNB) , an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS) , an extended service set (ESS) , a TRP, a network node, network equipment, or other related terminology. The BS 104 or an entity at the BS 104 may be implemented as an IAB  node, a relay node, a sidelink node, an aggregated (monolithic) base station, or a disaggregated base station including one or more RUs 106, DUs 108, and / or CUs 110. A set of aggregated or disaggregated base stations may be referred to as a next generation-radio access network (NG-RAN) . In some examples, the UE 102a operates in dual connectivity (DC) with the BS 104e and the base station / RU 106a. In such cases, the BS 104e may be a master node and the base station / RU 106a may be a secondary node.

[0062] Uplink / downlink signaling may also be communicated via a satellite positioning system (SPS) 114. In an example, the SPS 114 associated with the cell 190c may be in communication with one or more UEs 102, such as the UE 102c, and one or more BSs 104 / RUs 106, such as the RU 106c. The SPS 114 may correspond to one or more of a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) , a global position system (GPS) , a non-terrestrial network (NTN) , or other satellite position / location system. The SPS 114 may be associated with LTE signals, NR signals (e.g., based on round trip time (RTT) and / or multi-RTT) , wireless local area network (WLAN) signals, a terrestrial beacon system (TBS) , sensor-based information, NR enhanced cell ID (NR E-CID) techniques, downlink angle-of-departure (DL-AoD) , downlink time difference of arrival (DL-TDOA) , uplink time difference of arrival (UL-TDOA) , uplink angle-of-arrival (UL-AoA) , and / or other systems, signals, or sensors.

[0063] In Fig. 1, any of the UEs 102 may include a functionality reporting component 140 configured to transmit, to the BS 104, a first message indicating a plurality of supported functionalities. Optionally, one functionality can be associated with one or more ML models. The functionality reporting component 140 then receives, from the BS 104, a second message indicating configuration information associated with one or more of the plurality of supported functionalities. The functionality reporting component 140 then transmits, to the BS 104, a third message indicating at least one applicable functionality based on the configuration information, the applicable functionality being associated with an identifier that maps to a corresponding supported functionality of the plurality of supported functionalities.

[0064] The BS 104 includes a functionality activation component 150 configured to perform complementary operations with the functionality reporting component 140. For example, the functionality activation component 150 is configured to receive, from a UE, a first message indicating a plurality of supported functionalities. The functionality activation component 150  transmits, to the UE 102, a second message indicating configuration information associated with one or more of the plurality of supported functionalities. The functionality activation component 150 receives, from the UE 102, a third message indicating at least one applicable functionality based on the configuration information, the applicable functionality being associated with an identifier that maps to a corresponding supported functionality of the plurality of supported functionalities.

[0065] Accordingly, Fig. 1 describes a wireless communication system that may be implemented in connection with aspects of one or more other figures described herein. Further, although the following description may be focused on 5G NR, the concepts described herein may be applicable to other similar areas, such as 5G-Advanced and future versions, LTE, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , and other wireless technologies, such as 6G.

[0066] Fig. 2A illustrates an example functionality 210 including one or more machine learning (ML) models, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the functionality 210 may include one or more machine learning (ML) models 212 (e.g., models 1 through N, N being a natural number no less than 1) . A UE or a network entity may use the ML models 212 in ML based beam prediction (e.g., spatial-domain or temporal-domain predictions) , channel state information (CSI) prediction, or other ML based operations. For functionality-based control, the network entity may perform functionality identification, selection, activation, deactivation, switching, changing to non-AI operations, among others. In the example shown in Fig. 2A, multiple different ML models 212 may be selected or applied based on conditions for the common functionality 210.

[0067] Fig. 2B illustrates example functionalities 220 and 230 sharing one or more common ML models, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the functionalities 220 and 230 shares at least one common ML model n. The functionality i 220 may include multiple models n through x. The functionality j 230 may include multiple models n through y, among which multiple ML models are different from those of the functionality i 220.

[0068] Fig. 2C illustrates example relationships of supported functionalities and applicable functionalities, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, in the example 270, the number of applicable functionalities equals to the number of supported functionalities (in other words, in this example 270, all supported functionalities are applicable) . In another example 280,  a subset of the supported functionalities is applicable, and the number of applicable functionalities is less than the number of supported functionalities. For functionality-based controls, a UE provides the supported functionality information to the network, such as the supported functionalities 210, 220, and 230, and those in the examples 270 and 280.

[0069] The supported functionalities refer to functionalities that UE supports based on UE capability. For example, a UE may indicate the supported functionality information to the network, e.g., by using UE capability information (via RRC / LPP signaling) . Not all the supported functionalities may be activated on the UE side. In some cases, the UE may directly report applicable functionalities to the network. The applicable functionalities refer to functionalities that the UE is ready to apply for inference. As such, the supported functionalities of the examples 270 and 280 include applicable functionalities, which include to-be-activated functionalities, as further described below.

[0070] Fig. 3 illustrates an example diagram 300 of reporting applicable functionality information, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE 102 transmits 301 first reporting information that includes supported functionality information to the network entity 104. In some embodiments, the first reporting information is used to indicate the supported functionality information on the UE side. For example, the first reporting information may include at least one supported functionality at the UE. For example, the supported functionality information may be specific content of at least one supported functionality, or may be the identification information of at least one supported functionality.

[0071] The UE 102 receives 302 network configuration information that includes network-side additional condition and / or inference configuration. In some embodiments, the network configuration information may be used to indicate the network-side configuration. The network-side configuration information may refer to the network-side additional condition information (e.g., current network configuration information) and / or the inference configuration information to enable the inference for at least one functionality. In some cases, the UE-side or network-side additional condition information may respectively refer to the current UE or network configuration. The UE side or network side additional information associated with one model or functionality refers to a requirement of the UE or network configuration.

[0072] The UE 102 determines 303 the applicable functionality information based on the network configuration information. For example, the UE 102 determines 303 the applicable functionality information based on at least one of: UE-side configuration, network-side configuration from operation 302, or model availability information within one functionality. The UE 102 then reports 304 the applicable functionality information to the network 104. The applicable functionality information includes at least one applicable functionality (e.g., among the multiple supported functionalities) .

[0073] Fig. 4A illustrates an example diagram 400 of reporting applicable functionality information in example format or content, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE 102 transmits 401 first reporting information to the network entity 104. The first reporting information may include supported functionality information, such as, for example, functionality identification information, associated UE or network configuration information, accuracy level, among others. The content or the identification information of the supported functionality information may be used to uniquely identify a functionality, at least within the network side. Alternatively, the content or the identification information may be used to uniquely identify a functionality within a public land mobile network (PLMN) , a tracking area code, or a radio access network area code covering more than one cell.

[0074] The first reporting information may further include the UE and / or network configuration information associated with at least one of the supported functionalities, e.g., UE-side additional condition (s) or network-side additional condition (s) associated with one functionality. The UE (or network) configuration information associated with one functionality refers to the condition (s)  / aspect (s) at UE ( / network) side that are assumed for the training and / or inference activation of the model (s) within the functionality or the functionality itself.

[0075] In some cases, the UE may report the supported accuracy level for at least one supported functionality. In one example, for one functionality, multiple accuracy levels may be defined. The UE may report the accuracy level for the supported functionality. For example, for AI / ML based beam prediction, the UE may report that it may support beam prediction accuracy above a certain level.

[0076] In some cases, the supported functionality information may be reported in at least one of the granularities, including use case (e.g., AI / ML based beam prediction) , sub-use case (e.g.,  AI / ML based spatial-domain beam prediction or AI / ML based temporal beam prediction) , AI / ML-enabled feature, AI / ML-enabled FG, band, band combination, frequency or in other granularity. For example, for a first band, band combination or frequency range, the UE may report that it supports AI / ML based CSI prediction related functionality information, and for a second band, band combination or frequency range, the UE may report that it supports AI / ML based beam prediction related functionality information.

[0077] The UE receives 402 network configuration information, which may include the network-side additional condition (e.g., associated ID or network configuration content) , and / or inference configuration (e.g., measurement resources) . For example, the network configuration information may be used to indicate the network-side configuration. The configuration information may include at least one of: network-side additional condition information (or current network configuration information) , or inference configuration information. The network-side configuration information may refer to the network-side additional condition information (e.g., current network configuration information) and / or the inference configuration information to enable the inference for at least one functionality.

[0078] In some embodiments, the network-side additional condition information may indicate the content (s) of current network configuration information implicitly or explicitly. In an implicit manner, the network-side additional information may be in the form of an associated ID. Each associated ID may refer to one set of current network configuration information. In an explicit manner, the network-side additional condition information may include at least one of the following information: the number of the cell antenna, antenna down-tilt, sweeping mode of the beam (s) , or the coverage type of the cell (e.g., macro, micro, small, coverage or traffic cell) , among others.

[0079] The network-side additional condition information (e.g., associated ID) may be provided per bandwidth part, per serving cell, or per serving cell group. The network 104 may provide one or multiple sets of network-side additional condition information e.g., associated IDs, for one or multiple functionalities. The network 104 may provide common set (s) of network-side condition (s) for current serving cell and neighbor cell. Alternatively, the network 104 may provide the network-side additional condition information per candidate cell, e.g., current serving cell and neighbor cell.

[0080] The inference configuration information may be at least one of the following information: the beam measurement resources, x beams-to-y beams prediction for spatial domain prediction, m samples to n samples prediction for temporal domain prediction, among others. In one example, an inference configuration may be a CSI report configuration associated with an associated ID for the indication of the network-side additional condition (s) .

[0081] In some embodiments, the network configuration information may be reported in at least one of the granularities, including use case (e.g., AI / ML based beam prediction) , sub-use case (e.g., AI / ML based spatial-domain beam prediction or AI / ML based temporal beam prediction) , AI / ML-enabled feature, AI / ML-enabled frequency guard (FG) , band, band combination, frequency, cell or in other granularity.

[0082] The UE 102 determines 403 the applicable functionality information based on the UE-side and / or the network-side additional information, inference configuration and model availability. In some embodiments, the UE 102 decides whether a functionality may be applicable based on at least one of: the UE-side additional condition if needed, network-side additional condition if provided, inference configuration if provided, or model availability information, among other conditions. For example, the UE 102 may decide whether the functionality 1 may be applicable based on the consistency between the UE-side additional condition and the one associated with the functionality 1, the consistency between the network-side additional condition and the one associated with the functionality 1, and the availability of at least one model within the functionality 1. For example, the consistency is satisfied when the current condition matches a required condition.

[0083] In some embodiments, the UE 102 may decide or determine applicable functionality information to align the granularities of supported functionality and / or network configuration information.

[0084] The UE 102 transmits 404 applicable functionality information in the form of bit string or short index mapped to the supported functionality information. The content or format of the applicable functionality information may be mapped to the supported functionalities of the first reporting information in the operation 401. In this way, the network 104 may identify the applicable functionality based on the bit string or short index (without requiring further information from the UE 102) .

[0085] In some embodiments, the content / format of the applicable functionality information may be a bit string. The bit string can refer to at least one applicable functionality. The length of the bit string may be pre-defined by the specification, or may be dynamically changed according to the number of the supported functionalities.

[0086] In some embodiments, according to the order of the supported functionalities, the first bit corresponds to first / leftmost supported functionality in the supported functionality information, second bit corresponds to second supported functionality in the supported functionality information, and so on. It is noted that the first bit of the bit string refers to the leftmost bit in this embodiment as the example. As an example, the value 1 / true of the bit indicates the applicability of the corresponding functionality. And / or, while the value 0 / false indicates the non-applicability of the corresponding functionality. As another example, the value 0 / false of the bit indicates the applicability of the corresponding functionality. And / or, while the value 1 / true indicates the non-applicability of the corresponding functionality.

[0087] For example, the UE 102 reports 401 the supported functionality information as shown below (e.g., the length of the functionality identification is 16 bits, or the content to describe the functionality occupies 16 bits) :

[0088] Supported functionality information:

[0089] >functionality information 1, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0090] >functionality information 2, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0091] >functionality information 3, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0092] >functionality information 4, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0093] In an embodiment, the bit string of applicable functionality may include at least 4 bits. In this embodiment, it is assumed that the maximum number of supported functionalities is 4. The length of the bit string for the applicable functionality is 4 bits. The value of 1 in the bit string means applicability. For example, when the bit string is 1010, the network entity can know that the first bit corresponds to functionality 1 and indicates that the functionality 1 may be applicable, the second bit corresponds to functionality 2 and indicates that the functionality 2 is not applicable, and so on.

[0094] Upon receiving the previous applicable functionality information, e.g., the bit string 1010, the network 104 may know that the functionality 1 and the functionality 3 may be applicable for the UE.

[0095] In some embodiments, the applicable functionality information may be reported with the same granularities of supported functionality and / or network configuration information. In one example, the granularity of the bit string of the applicable functionality information may follow the granularity of the supported functionality. For example, the UE reports the supported functionality information and the granularity of the functionality is use-case specific. The example content of the supported functionality information may be shown below:

[0096] Supported functionality information:

[0097] >Use case 1

[0098] >>functionality information 1, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0099] >>functionality information 2, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0100] >Use case 2

[0101] >>functionality information 3, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0102] >>functionality information 4, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0103] The UE may report a bit string of applicable functionality information. The length of the bit string is 6 bits. For example, the bit string is 101000. The applicable functionality information may be reported is:

[0104] Applicable functionality information: 101000

[0105] The first bit corresponds to functionality 1 and indicates that the functionality 1 may be applicable. The second bit corresponds to functionality 2 and indicates that the functionality 2 is not applicable, and so on. For the last two bits (e.g., “00” ) , they may not refer to any functionality and are included by default. For example, the last two bits are the reserved bits for forward compatibility. In some embodiments, each of the six bits in the bit string is defined, while not all bits need be used. For this example, 4 bits convey sufficient information and the final two bits are placeholders (without related functionality) . Upon receiving the applicable  functionality information, e.g., the bit string 101000, the network 104 knows that the functionality 1 for use case 1 and the functionality 3 for use case 2 may be applicable for the UE.

[0106] Alternatively, the UE 102 may report two sets of bit strings of applicable functionality information. Each set of bit string corresponds to one use case. The bit string of applicable functionality information is thus use-case specific and aligned with the granularity of the reporting of supported functionality information. For example, the length of each set of bit string is 3 bits. The last bit may be a placeholder similar to the two placeholder bits previously described. The example applicable functionality information may be reported as shown below: Applicable functionality information:

[0107] >Use case1: 100

[0108] >Use case2: 100

[0109] Upon receiving the applicable functionality information, e.g., the first bit string 100 and the second bit string 100, the network 104 may know that the functionality 1 for use case 1 and the functionality 3 for use case 2 may be applicable for the UE.

[0110] In another example, the content / format of the applicable functionality information may be a short index. The value of the short index may be used to indicate one supported functionality. In some embodiments, the short index can be derived based on the content or the identification information of the supported functionality information, e.g., truncated identification of the functionality identification of supported functionality. In some embodiments, the value of the index corresponds to the order of supported functionality in the supported functionality information. The length of the index can be predefined or configured by the network entity. For example, the UE reports the supported functionality information as shown below:

[0111] Supported functionality information:

[0112] >functionality information 1, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0113] >functionality information 2, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0114] >functionality information 3, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0115] >functionality information 4, e.g., containing 16 bits

[0116] In some embodiments, the short index can be derived as the rightmost 5 bits. In some embodiments, the length of the short index of the applicable functionality is predefined as 3 bits. The UE reports the short index information of the applicable functionality as below:

[0117] Applicable functionality information: {001, 011}

[0118] For the first short index, the value is 1, which may correspond to the first supported functionality (e.g., functionality information 1) in the supported functionality information reported to the network. For the second short index, the value is 3, which may correspond to the third supported functionality (e.g., functionality information 3) in the supported functionality information reported to the network. Upon receiving the applicable functionality information, e.g., short index information {001, 011} , the network 104 may know that the functionality 1 and 3 may be applicable for the UE.

[0119] In some embodiments, the granularity of the bit string may follow the granularity of the supported functionality. For example, when the applicable functionality information is represented by the following bit strings:

[0120] Applicable functionality information:

[0121] >Use case1: 100

[0122] >Use case2: 100

[0123] The bit strings may be replaced by the following short index (es) :

[0124] Applicable functionality information:

[0125] >Use case1: 001

[0126] >Use case2: 001 (referring to the first supported functionality within use case 2)

[0127] In some embodiments, the network entity 104 identifies 405 applicable functionality by performing correlation with the supported functionalities. For example, the network entity 104 correlates the applicable functionality information with the supported functionalities and identifies actual applicable functionality information. In some cases, the correlation may be similar to the mapping of operation 404.

[0128] In some embodiments, the network entity 104 decides 406 whether to activate at least one applicable functionality, and / or which applicable functionality / functionalities may be activated on the UE side. The network entity 104 then transmits 407 the activated applicable functionality information to UE.

[0129] Fig. 4B illustrates an example diagram 450 of reporting candidate functionality information and model availability information, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. The example diagram 450 shares common operations 401, 402, 403, and 404 with the example diagram 400, as described above. The example diagram 450 does not include operations 405, 406, or 407 of the example diagram 400, however, these operations may be included in the example diagram 450 if applicable functionality information is included in operation 404A. Instead, as shown in Fig. 4B, the UE 102 transmits 404A candidate functionality information and / or ML model availability information to the network entity 104. For example, the UE 102 may include or identify candidate functionalities that satisfy the network-side additional conditions and the UE-side additional conditions. The UE 102 may report 404A the candidate functionality information to the network 104. In some embodiments, the UE 102 may transmit a separate information element for the candidate functionality information reporting (e.g., different from the one for applicable functionality information reporting) . Optionally, the content / format of the candidate functionality information may refer to the description of the applicable one. In some embodiments, the UE 102 may transmit ML model available information alongside the applicable functionality information. The ML model available information is used to indicate whether there is at least one model within the associated applicable functionality, or whether there is no available model within the associated applicable functionality. For the applicable functionality with the ML model availability information indicating no available model, it can be considered as candidate functionality.

[0130] The candidate functionalities may correspond to unavailable model (s) . For example, if one functionality satisfies both UE and network-side additional conditions but has no locally available model on the UE side, the UE 102 may report 404A the candidate functionality information to the network 104. In some embodiments, there is at least one model for the candidate functionality on the network side. As such, the UE 102 and the network 104 performs 408 the model transfer / delivery procedure for the candidate functionality (e.g., the network 104  initiates the model transfer / delivery procedure to the UE 102) . The transfer or delivery procedure allows the model (s) to become available for the candidate functionality on the UE side. Correspondingly, the candidate functionality may be considered as the applicable one and may further be reported to the NW for future AI / ML decision.

[0131] The UE 102 may report 404A the candidate functionality information in the form of bit string or short index mapped to the supported functionality information (similar to indicating the applicable functionality in operation 404) . The content or format of the candidate functionality information may be mapped to the supported functionalities of the first reporting information in the operation 401. As such, the network 104 may identify the candidate functionality based on the bit string or short index (without requiring further information from the UE 102) . More detailed description may refer to the description of the applicable one.

[0132] In the example diagrams 400 and 450, the UE 102 reports less information of the applicable / candidate functionalities than a full description of applicable / candidate functionalities. By mapping the information of the applicable / candidate functionalities to the supported ones, the network entity 104 has sufficient information to identify the applicable / candidate functionalities. As such, the signaling overhead is reduced for the applicable / candidate functionality information reporting in comparison to conventional reporting. The signaling techniques herein may also improve the robustness of the reporting (e.g., by limiting room for errors using the bit strings or short indexes) .

[0133] Fig. 5 illustrates an example diagram 500 of reporting applicable functionality information, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. The example diagram 500 differs from the example diagram 400 in that the UE 102 may send two or more reporting messages for the applicable functionality information. For example, the UE 102 uses two different messages for the applicable functionality information reporting. The two different messages may be a first reporting message and a second reporting message. The first reporting message may be the RRC reconfiguration complete message; while the second reporting message may be UAI message.

[0134] The messages may be at least one of: an RRC reconfiguration complete message, an RRC setup complete message, an RRC resume complete message, an RRC reestablishment complete message, a UE assistance information (UAI) message, an LPP signaling related message, or an L1 (e.g., UCI)  / L2 (e.g., MAC CE) related signaling, among others. The two or  more reporting messages enable the network entity 104 to properly decide the applicable functionality on the UE side.

[0135] As shown in Fig. 5, the UE 102 transmits 511 a capability information to the network entity 104. The capability information indicates whether the UE supports applicable functionality information reporting via a first reporting message. The UE capability information may be optional or mandatory on the UE side. When supported on the UE side, the UE 102 transmits 511 the capability information to the network entity 104. In some embodiments, the capability information on the UE side may be pre-defined (e.g., according to technical specifications) . The first capability information is used to indicate whether to support the applicable functionality information reporting via a first reporting message (e.g., as required per technical standard) . Further, this may be a mandatory UE capability without capability reporting to the network. For example, supporting the applicable functionality information reporting via RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may be presumed. In some cases, the standard version (e.g., Release 19) of the UE 102 may indicate to the network entity 104 that the UE supports the applicable functionality information reporting via RRC Reconfiguration Complete message.

[0136] Upon receiving the capability information from the UE 102, the network entity 104 transmits 402 network configuration information to the UE 102 (detailed operations described in relation to Fig. 4A above) . The UE 102 determines 403 the applicable functionality information based on UE-side or network side additional condition, inference configuration, and / or model availability (detailed operations described in relation to Fig. 4A above) .

[0137] The UE 102 transmits 504A a first message to the network entity 104. The first message may include all or part of the applicable functionality information. For example, when the UE determines (e.g., within allowable time using allotted resources) substantially all applicable functionality information before the transmission of the first reporting message, the UE may include the determined applicable functionality information in the first reporting message, e.g., RRC Reconfiguration Complete message. On the other hand, if the UE determines part of the applicable functionality information before the transmission of the first reporting message, the UE may include part of applicable functionality information in the first reporting message, e.g., RRC Reconfiguration Complete message.

[0138] Further, the UE 102 may also include first indication information in the first reporting message. The first indication information may be used to indicate that whether all applicable functionality information is included, or to indicate that only part of applicable functionality information is includes, or to indicate that the determination procedure of the applicable functionality information does not end or is ongoing, or to indicate that the remaining applicable functionality information will be reported in a second reporting message, e.g., UE assistance information (UAI) . In addition, the UE may indicate a first cause information, which may indicate why the determination procedure of all applicable functionality information is not completed, e.g., due to limited UE computation capability.

[0139] In some embodiments, the UE may include no applicable functionality information in the first reporting message. In some embodiments, if the UE may not derive the applicable functionality information before the transmission of the first reporting message, the UE does not include any applicable functionality information in the first reporting message, e.g., RRC Reconfiguration Complete message. And / or, the UE may include second indication information. For example, if the UE performs the determination procedure but does not find any applicable functionality, the second indication information is used to indicate that no applicable functionality is found or no functionality is applicable. And / or, if the UE does not perform the determination procedure, the second indication information is used to indicate that the determination of the applicable functionality is not performed.

[0140] In some embodiments, when the UE 102 does not support the applicable functionality reporting via a first reporting message, the UE 102 does not include any applicable functionality information in the first reporting message. If there is remaining or updated applicable functionality information, the UE performs operation 504B (described below) to provide the remaining or updated applicable functionality information. As shown, the UE 102 transmits 540B a second reporting message to the network entity 104. The second reporting message may include at least one of: applicable functionality information, first indication information, or a cause, as further described below.

[0141] The UE 102 may perform the operation 504B in at least one of the following cases. First, the UE 102 performs the operation 504B when the UE determines part of the applicable functionality information. Second, the UE 102 performs the operation 504B when the UE 102  detects the change of applicable functionality information which is different from the reported one. Third, the UE 102 performs the operation 504B when the UE 102 performs determination after the operation 504A and derives the applicable functionality information. Fourth, the UE 102 performs the operation 504B when the UE 102 does not support the applicable functionality reporting via the first reporting message in the operation 504A.

[0142] In some embodiments, if the UE 102 detects the change of applicable functionality information, which is different from the reported one (e.g., in operation 504A) , the UE 102 may send 504B the second report message based on a detected event. For example, the UE 102 may determine to send the second report message for applicable functionality information update if at least one of the following occurs. First, the UE 102 sends the second report message when the UE detects that a certain functionality may not meet a first performance criteria, e.g., functionality failure. Second, the UE 102 sends the second report message when the UE 102 detects at least one new functionality may meet a second performance criteria. Third, the UE 102 sends the second report message when the UE activates or deactivates a SCell or SCG. Fourth, the UE 102 sends the second report message when the UE completes a handover or cell switching procedure. Fifth, the UE 102 sends the second report message when the UE detects that it is in an overheating state. Sixth, the UE 102 sends the second report message when the UE determines to step in a power saving mode. And the UE 102 sends the second report message when the UE receives the reconfiguration of the network-side additional condition (s) , e.g., associated ID.

[0143] In some embodiments, the UE 102 may send 504B the remaining applicable functionality information or the updated applicable functionality information, e.g., in form of delta information via the second reporting message, e.g., UAI. Further, the UE may include a reporting cause, which is used to indicate the cause to send the second reporting message. The possible cause may be at least one of the following information, including remaining applicable functionality information, trigger reason, and other cause. In addition, the UE may also include an indication to indicate whether all the applicable functionality information is reported, or to indicate whether there is remaining applicable functionality information to be reported.

[0144] In some embodiments, the content or format of the applicable functionality information may be specific content or the identification information of the applicable functionality. In some  embodiments, the content or format of the applicable functionality information may refer to the description in operation 404 of Figs. 4A and 4B. In some embodiments, when at least one of the events described above occurs, the network entity 104 or the UE 102 may determine that none of the supported functionality is applicable before receiving or transmitting the second report message. The UE 102 may include an indictor to indicate to fallback to non-AI state / operation or to indicate no applicable functionality in a second reporting message. In some cases, upon receiving the applicable functionality information, the network entity 104 may perform the actions as described in 405, or in 405 and 406, or in 405, 406 and 407.

[0145] As the UE 102 may report 504A and 504B the applicable functionality information using two or more different messages, the network entity 104 may properly derive the applicable functionality information on the UE side, with enhanced reliability and accuracy. In addition, reporting using two or more messages enables the flexible reporting of the applicable functionality information. Further, this may provide the applicable functionality information quickly and enable the functionality activation early.

[0146] Fig. 6 illustrates an example diagram 600 of sending indication information and determining applicable functionalities, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE 102 transmits 621 indication information to the network entity 104 to indicate whether the network-side additional condition is needed, before the determination of applicable functionality information. The indication information may be used to indicate whether the network-side configuration information is needed, or to indicate the required network-side configuration information. In some embodiments, the indication information explicitly indicates whether the network side additional condition is needed. For example, the UE 102 sends indication information to the network entity 104. Then, the UE sends the applicable functionality information to the network.

[0147] The indication information may be used to indicate whether the network-side additional condition is needed. In some embodiments, if the indication information to indicate that the network-side additional condition is needed, the network entity 104 transmits 402 the network configuration information at least including the network-side additional condition to the UE.The UE 102 determines 403 the applicable functionality information based on the UE and  network-side additional condition, inference configuration (if provided) , and model availability. The UE 102 then transmits 604 applicable functionality information to the network entity 104.

[0148] In some embodiments, the UE 102 determines 603 the applicable functionality information based on the UE-side additional condition and model availability, and transmits 604 the applicable functionality information to the network entity 104, (1) when the indication information to indicate that the network-side additional condition is not needed while the network entity 104 does not provide network-side additional condition, or (2) when the indication information to indicate that the network-side additional condition is needed but the network does not provide the network-side additional condition.

[0149] In some embodiments, the UE 102 decides 603 whether one functionality may be applicable based on at least one of: the UE-side additional condition, or model availability information, among others. In some embodiments, the content or format of the applicable functionality information may be specific content or the identification information of the applicable functionality. In some embodiments, the content or format of the applicable functionality information may refer to those in operation 404 (and other operations regarding applicable functionality information) as described above.

[0150] In some embodiments, upon receiving 604 the applicable functionality information, the network entity 104 may perform operations 405, operations 405 and 406, operations 405, 406 and 407, or operations 404A and 408, of Figs. 4A and 4B.

[0151] Fig. 7 illustrates an example diagram 700 of combined reporting of both supported and applicable functionalities, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE 102 determines 603 the applicable functionality information based on the UE-side additional condition and model availability (e.g., without network-side configuration information or inference configuration) , and transmits 704 both the supported functionality information and an applicable functionality therein in one message. The UE 102 may transmit 704 the supported functionality information with an applicable indication that is used to indicate whether the related supported functionality is applicable. For example, the UE may include the supported functionality information and an applicable indication, which is used to indicate whether the related supported functionality is applicable.

[0152] In some embodiments, the UE transmits 704A and 704B the supported and applicable functionality information via different messages. As shown, the UE 102 transmits 704A a first reporting information including supported functionality information to the network entity 104 and subsequently transmits 704B applicable functionality information to the network entity 104. The supported functionality information and the applicable functionality information of the operations 704A and 704B are similar to those described above, such as those in operations 401 and 404. Upon receiving the applicable functionality information, the network entity 104 may perform operations 405, operations 405 and 406, operations 405, 406 and 407, or operations 404A and 408, of Figs. 4A and 4B.

[0153] Fig. 8 illustrates an example diagram 800 of reporting of required network-side additional information, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE 102 transmits 801 second indication information to indicate the required network-side configuration information to the network entity 104. The second indication information may be used to indicate the required network-side configuration information. The second indication may include the associated ID of the required network-side additional condition and other information. In some embodiments, the network entity 104 determines (not separately shown in the diagram 800) network-side additional condition based on the second indication information.

[0154] Similar to examples diagrams 600 and 700, upon receiving 604 the applicable functionality information, the network entity 104 may perform operations 405, operations 405 and 406, operations 405, 406 and 407, or operations 404A and 408, of Figs. 4A and 4B.

[0155] Fig. 9 illustrates an example diagram 900 of reporting applicable functionality based on whether network configuration information will be sent or not, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE 102 receives 940 an indication indicating whether network configuration information will be sent. The UE 102 determines 941 whether the indication is affirmative (e.g., that the network entity 104 will send the network configuration information) .

[0156] The indication from the network entity 104 regarding whether the UE 102 will receive network configuration information from the network entity 104 enhances the transmission of network configuration information from the network entity 104. For example, if network configuration information will be sent, the indication may be sent via L1, L2, L3 or LPP signaling. In one example, the indication may be sent via system information, or dedicated RRC  message. The network configuration information has been described in relation to operation 402 above.

[0157] If the UE determines 941 that the network configuration will be sent ( “Yes” branch) , the UE 102 transmits 621, to the network entity 104, indication information on whether the network-side additional condition is needed. The UE 102 may further determine 403 the applicable functionality information based on the UE-side or network-side additional information, inference configuration (if needed) , and model availability. The UE 102 may transmit 604 applicable functionality information mapped to the supported functionality information or specific content / identification information.

[0158] If the UE 102 determines 941 that the network configuration will not be sent ( “No” branch) , the UE determines 603 the applicable functionality information based on UE-side additional condition and model availability. The UE 102 may then transmit 604 applicable functionality information mapped to the supported functionality information or specific content / identification information. As such, the UE 102 may indicate whether the network-side additional information is needed for the determination of applicable functionality information. Such indication may enable the network entity 104 to filter the network-side additional information to be provided to the UE. This is beneficial for the signaling overhead from the NW to the UE in the air interface.

[0159] Similar to examples diagrams 600, 700, and 800, upon receiving 604 the applicable functionality information, the network entity 104 may perform operations 405, operations 405 and 406, operations 405, 406 and 407, or operations 404A and 408, of Figs. 4A and 4B.

[0160] Fig. 10 illustrates an example diagram 1000 of reporting applicable / candidate functionalities, in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. As shown, the UE 102 may optionally receive 941 indication from the network entity 104 on whether the network entity 104 will send network configuration information, as discussed in relation to the example diagram 900. Other operations described in the example diagrams 400, 450, 500, 600, 700, 800, and 900 may be included or excluded in the diagram 1000. For example, operations 405, 406, and / or 407 may follow 504B in an embodiment. In another embodiment, 403 may be replaced by 603. In yet another embodiment, 504A and 504B may be replaced by 404 or 604.

[0161] The UE 102 transmits 401 first reporting information including supported functionality information to the network entity 104. The first reporting information may include functionality identification information, associate UE or network configuration information, and / or accuracy level.

[0162] The UE 102 optionally transmits 511 a capability information to indicate whether to support applicable / candidate functionality information reporting via a first reporting message. The UE 102 optionally transmits 831 second indication information to indicate the required network-side configuration information.

[0163] The UE 102 optionally receives 402, network configuration information from the network entity 104. The network configuration information may include at least one of the follows: network-side additional condition, associated identifier, network configuration content, and / or inference configuration (e.g., measurement resources) .

[0164] The UE 102 determines 403 the applicable / candidate functionalities based on NW-side additional conditions (if provided) , UE-side additional conditions (internally known by UE) and model availability in device. The applicable functionalities refer to the functionalities that the UE has at least one model and is ready to apply for inference. The candidate functionalities refer to the functionalities which are the candidates to be applicable. The difference between candidate functionality and applicable one is that there is no available model for the functionality at UE side.

[0165] The UE 102 transmits 504A a first reporting message to the network entity 104. The first reporting message may include the applicable / candidate functionality information, the first indication information to indicate whether all applicable / candidate functionality information has been included, and / or a cause. The UE 102 transmits 504B a second reporting message to the network entity 104. The second reporting message may include different or updated content compared to the first reporting message, in similar format. Details of the first and the second reporting messages as discussed in relation to Fig. 5 above.

[0166] In some embodiments, there are candidate functionalities on the UE side, which satisfy the network-side additional conditions (if provided) and UE-side additional conditions but without locally available model. For candidate functionalities, the reporting of the model  availability information is beneficial, e.g., for the model training purpose, or for the mode transfer / delivery. For example, if one candidate functionality satisfies both UE and network-side additional conditions but has no locally available model at UE side, the UE 102 may report the candidate functionality information to the network entity 104 and indicate the model unavailability information. There may be available model (s) for this candidate functionality on the network side. The model transfer / delivery may be triggered to the UE. With these operations, the model (s) becomes available for the candidate functionality at UE side. Correspondingly, the candidate functionality may be considered as the applicable one and further reported to the network for future AI / ML decision. In some embodiments, the UE 102 reports to the network entity 102 the candidate functionality information which satisfies the NW- (if provided) and UE-side additional conditions but have no locally available model. The model availability information may report for the applicable / candidate functionalities.

[0167] Fig. 11 illustrates a flowchart of a method 1100 of wireless communication at a UE. With reference to Figs. 1, 3-10, and 13, the method may be performed by the UE 102, the UE apparatus 1302, etc., which may include the memory 1326' , 1306' , 1316, and which may correspond to the entire UE 102 or the entire UE apparatus 1302, or a component (e.g., the CSI configuration component 120) of the UE 102 or the UE apparatus 1302, such as the wireless baseband processor 1326 and / or the application processor 1306.

[0168] As shown in Fig. 11, the method 1100 starts where the UE optionally receives 1141, from a network entity, an indication indicating whether the network entity will send the network configuration information (similar to operation 941 of Fig. 9) .

[0212] The functionality activation component 150a-150c may be one or more hardware components specifically configured to carry out the stated processes / algorithm, implemented by one or more processors 1406, 1426, 1446 configured to perform the stated processes / algorithm, stored within a computer-readable medium for implementation by the one or more processors 1406, 1426, 1446, or a combination thereof.

[0213] The specific order or hierarchy of blocks in the processes and flowcharts disclosed herein are an illustration of example approaches. Hence, the specific order or hierarchy of blocks in the processes and flowcharts may be rearranged. Some blocks may also be combined or deleted. Dashed lines may indicate example / optional elements of the diagrams. The accompanying method claims present elements of the various blocks in an example order, and are not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented in the claims, processes, and flowcharts.

[0214] The detailed description set forth herein describes various configurations in connection with the drawings and does not represent the only configurations in which the concepts described herein may be practiced. The detailed description includes specific details for the purpose of providing a thorough explanation of various concepts. However, these concepts may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid obscuring such concepts.

[0215] Aspects of wireless communication systems, such as telecommunication systems, are presented with reference to various apparatuses and methods. These apparatuses and methods are described in the following detailed description and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, components, circuits, processes, call flows, systems, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as “elements” ) . These elements may be implemented using electronic hardware, computer software, or combinations thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0216] An element, or any portion of an element, or any combination of elements may be implemented as a “processing system” that includes one or more processors. Examples of processors include microprocessors, microcontrollers, graphics processing units (GPUs) , central processing units, application processors, digital signal processors (DSPs) , reduced instruction set  computing (RISC) processors, systems-on-chip (SoC) , baseband processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) , programmable logic devices (PLDs) , state machines, gated logic, discrete hardware circuits, and other similar hardware configured to perform the various functionality described throughout this disclosure. One or more processors in the processing system may execute software, which may be referred to as software, firmware, middleware, microcode, hardware description language, or otherwise. Software may be construed broadly to mean instructions, instruction sets, code, code segments, program code, programs, subprograms, software components, applications, software applications, software packages, routines, subroutines, objects, executables, threads of execution, procedures, functions, or any combination thereof.

[0218] Aspects, implementations, and / or use cases described herein may be implemented across many differing platform types, devices, systems, shapes, sizes, and packaging arrangements. For example, the aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may come about via integrated chip implementations and other non-module-component based devices, such as end-user devices, vehicles, communication devices, computing devices, industrial equipment, retail / purchasing devices, medical devices, artificial intelligence (AI) -enabled devices, machine learning (ML) -enabled devices, etc. The aspects, implementations, and / or use cases may range from chip-level or modular components to non-modular or non-chip-level implementations, and further to aggregate, distributed, or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices or systems incorporating one or more techniques described herein.

[0219] Devices incorporating the aspects and features described herein may also include additional components and features for the implementation and practice of the claimed and described aspects and features. For example, transmission and reception of wireless signals necessarily includes a number of components for analog and digital purposes, such as hardware components, antennas, RF-chains, power amplifiers, modulators, buffers, processor (s) , interleavers, adders / summers, etc. Techniques described herein may be practiced in a wide variety of devices, chip-level components, systems, distributed arrangements, aggregated or disaggregated components, end-user devices, etc., of varying configurations.

[0220] The description herein is provided to enable a person skilled in the art to practice the various aspects described herein. Various modifications to these aspects will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the generic principles defined herein may be applied to other aspects. Thus, the claims are not limited to the aspects described herein, but are to be interpreted in view of the full scope of the present disclosure consistent with the language of the claims.

[0221] Reference to an element in the singular does not mean “one and only one” unless specifically stated, but rather “one or more. ” Terms such as “if, ” “when, ” and “while” do not imply an immediate temporal relationship or reaction. That is, these phrases, e.g., “when, ” do not imply an immediate action in response to or during the occurrence of an action, but simply imply that if a condition is met then an action will occur, but without requiring a specific or immediate time constraint for the action to occur. The terms “may, ” “might, ” and “may, ” as used in this disclosure, often carry certain connotations. For example, “may” refers to a permissible feature that may or may not occur, “might” refers to a feature that probably occurs, and “may” refers to a capability (e.g., capable of) . The phrase “For example” often carries a similar connotation to “may” and, therefore, “may” is sometimes excluded from sentences that include “for example” or other similar phrases.

[0222] Unless specifically stated otherwise, the term “some” refers to one or more. Combinations such as “at least one of A, B, or C” or “one or more of A, B, or C” include any combination of A, B, and / or C, such as A and B, A and C, B and C, or A and B and C, and may include multiples of A, multiples of B, and / or multiples of C, or may include A only, B only, or C only. Sets may be interpreted as a set of elements where the elements number one or more.

[0223] Unless otherwise specifically indicated, ordinal terms such as “first” and “second” do not necessarily imply an order in time, sequence, numerical value, etc., but are used to distinguish between different instances of a term or phrase that follows each ordinal term. Reference numbers, as used in the specification and figures, are sometimes cross-referenced among drawings to denote same or similar features. A feature that is exactly the same in multiple drawings may be labeled with the same reference number in the multiple drawings. A feature that is similar among the multiple drawings, but not exactly the same, may be labeled with reference numbers that have different leading numbers, but have one or more of the same trailing numbers (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc., may refer to similar features in the drawings) . Sometimes an “X” is used to universally denote multiple variations of a feature. For instance, “X06” may universally refer to all reference numbers that end in “06” (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc. ) .

[0224] It is noted that throughout this disclosure, an expression of “X / Y” may include meaning of “X or Y” . It is noted that throughout this disclosure, an expression of “X / Y” may include meaning of “X and Y” . It is noted that throughout this disclosure, an expression of “X / Y” may include meaning of “X and / or Y” . It is noted that throughout this disclosure, an expression of “ (A) B” or “B (A) ” may include concept of “only B” . It is noted that throughout this disclosure, an expression of “ (A) B” or “B (A) ” may include concept of “A+B” or “B+A” .

[0225] It is noted that some or all of the foregoing or the following embodiments may be jointly combined or formed to be a new or another one embodiment.

[0226] It is noted that the foregoing or the following embodiments may be used to solve at least (but not limited to) the issue (s) or scenario (s) mentioned in this disclosure.
