Description

METHOD FOR TERMINAL APPARATUS, COMPUTER PROGRAM, NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER READABLE STORING MEDIUM, AND METHOD FOR BASE STATION APPARATUSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] Embodiments of this application relate to the communications field, and more specifically, to a method for wireless communications, a terminal apparatus, a computer program, a non-transitory computer readable storing medium, and a method for a base station apparatus.BACKGROUND

[0002] A carrier aggregation (CA) technique is used also in a 5th generation (5th generation, 5G) mobile communication system for a higher-rate transmission. CA uses two or more component carriers (CCs) . Some CCs may be contiguous or non-contiguous, and received signal powers at user equipment (UE) for the component carriers may be significantly different in a case where one CC is transmitted from a base station (BS) apparatus located near the UE while another CC is transmitted from another BS apparatus located far from the UE. In such a case, one or both of the CCs may not be successfully received by a common receiver chain to process both CCs partly because an automatic gain control (AGC) function equipped with the receiver component of the UE may not be optimum for both signals at the same time, and the UE may need two or more receiving chains in order to handle two or more component carriers with different powers.SUMMARY

[0045] In addition, to clearly describe the technical solutions in embodiments of this application, terms such as "first" and "second" are used in embodiments of this application to distinguish between the same items or similar items that have basically the same functions or purposes. A person skilled in the art may understand that the terms such as "first" and "second" do not limit a quantity or an execution sequence, and the terms such as "first" and "second" do not indicate a definite difference. In addition, in embodiments of this application, the word such as "example" or "for example" is used to represent giving an example, an illustration, or a description. Any embodiment or technical solution described as "example" or "for example" in embodiments of this application should not be explained as being more preferred or having more advantages than another embodiment or design solution. Specifically, use of the word such as "example" or "for example" is intended to present a related concept in a specific manner for ease of understanding.

[0046] In addition, the network architecture and the service scenario described in embodiments of this application are intended to describe the technical solutions in embodiments of this application more clearly, and do not constitute a limitation on the technical solutions provided in embodiments of this application. A person of ordinary skill in the art may know that: With the evolution of the network architecture and the emergence of new service scenarios, the technical solutions provided in embodiments of this application are also applicable to similar technical problems.

[0047] For ease of understanding of embodiments of this application, an application scenario of embodiments of this application is first described in detail with reference to Figure 1.

[0048] Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of a system applicable to a method according to an embodiment of this application. The system may be a wireless communications system, and includes a first terminal apparatus 10, a first base station apparatus 30-1, and a second base station apparatus 30-2. The first base station apparatus 30-1 configures a first cell C1, and the second base station apparatus 30-2 configures a second cell C2. The second cell C2 may be configured by the first base station apparatus 30-1, and the first cell C1 may be configured by the second base station apparatus 30-2.

[0049] The system is configured with a carrier aggregation (CC) with a first component carrier (CC) CC1 and a second CC, i.e., CC2. The first and the second CCs correspond to the first cell and the second cell, respectively. In this embodiment, CC1 and CC2 are contiguous, non-contiguous in a frequency domain. The powers may be represented as power spectrum densities (PSDs) . The powers for CC1 and CC2 may be almost the same, or may be significantly different according to path losses between the first terminal apparatus 10 and the base station apparatuses 30-1 and 30-2.

[0050] Figure 2 is a schematic diagram of a structure of a first terminal apparatus 10 according to an embodiment of this application. The first terminal apparatus comprises a transceiver unit 11, a processing unit 12, and a memory unit 13. The transceiver unit 11 comprises a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is configured to transmit signals processed by the processing unit 12 or stored in the memory unit 13. The receiver is configured to receive signals transmitted from other devices such as the base station apparatus 30.

[0051] The processing unit 12 is configured to process information and data obtained from the outside. The processing unit 12 is configured to read instructions from the memory unit 13 and execute them. The processing unit 12 may execute instructions stored inside the processing unit 12.

[0052] Figure 3 is a schematic diagram of a structure of a base station apparatus 30 according to an embodiment of this application. The base station apparatus 30 comprises a transceiver unit 31, a processing unit 32, and a memory unit 33. The physical functions of the transceiver unit 31, the processing unit 32, and the memory unit 33 corresponds to those of the transceiver unit 11, the processing unit 12, and the memory unit 13 of the first terminal apparatus, respectively.

[0053] Figure 4 is a schematic diagram of a structure of a receiving chain of the first terminal apparatus 10. The receiving chain corresponds to the receiver included in the transceiver 11 of the first terminal apparatus 10. The receiver comprises a series of  components each performing its own functions, which may be referred to the receiving chain. The receiving chain can be referred to as an Rx chain.

[0054] The Rx chain comprises an antenna switch 111, a band-pass filter (BPF) 112, a TDD UL / DL switch 113, an external low noise amplifier (LNA) 114, and a radio-frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) 115, an automatic gain controller (AGC) 116, an analogue-to-digital (A / D) converter 117, and a baseband unit 118. The RFIC 115 comprises an internal LNA 115-1, a mixer 115-2, a local oscillator (LO) 15-3, and a low-pass filter (LPF) 115-4. Although the terminal apparatus 10 comprises the TDD UL / DL switch 113, the configuration of the terminal apparatus 10 is exemplary, and the present disclosure is also applicable to an FDD duplex mode.

[0055] The antenna switch 111 switches one or more of the antennas included in an antenna array. The BPF filtrates a specific frequency range of input signal. The TDD UL / DL switch 113 switches the UL and DL path of the signals according to a TDD UL / DL pattern determined by the network. The eLNA 114 and the iLNA 115-1 amplifies the input signal so that the subsequent components can handle the input signal. The LO 115-2 performs a mixing function. The eLNA 114 is comprised outside the RFIC 115, while the iLNA is comprised inside the RFIC 115.

[0056] The LO 115-3 is an electronic oscillator used with the mixer 115-2 to change the frequency of a signal. This frequency conversion process, also called heterodyning, produces the sum and difference frequencies from the frequency of the local oscillator and frequency of the input signal. The LPF 115-4 filtrates only a specific, lower-frequency range of the input signal to remove a higher-frequency component. The AGC 116 dynamically or semi-statically controls the gain of the eLNA 114 and / or the iLNA so that the input signals are appropriately amplified according to the input signal amplitude. For example, the AGC 116 controls the gain of the eLNA 114 and / or the iLNA 115 to be high for securing a high-sensitivity by lowering the thermal noise of the amplifiers if the input signal amplitude is low. The AGC 116 controls the gain of the eLNA 114 and / or the iLNA 115 to be low for securing a linear operation.

[0057] The A / D 117 literally performs an A / D conversion, and the baseband unit 118 performs a baseband processing.

[0058] In Figure 4, the Rx chain handles at least two CCs, i.e., CC1 and CC2 at the same time. The baseband unit 118 may perform a baseband processing of both CC1 and CC2 as a set or individually perform a baseband processing of CC1 and CC2 to separate the signals for CC1 and CC2. This type of configuration may be referred to as “type 1” , but the explanation provided above is exemplary and other implementations may also be employed. The first terminal apparatus 10 may comprise two or more Rx chains.

[0059] Figure 5 is a schematic diagram of a structure of receiving chains of the first terminal apparatus 10 according to an embodiment of this application. In Figure 5, the transceiver 11 comprises at least two Rx chains each handling signals on one CC, i.e., the Rx chain on the left handles signals on CC1 and the Rx chain on the right handles signals on CC2. This type of configuration may be referred to as “type 2” . The first terminal apparatus 10 may comprise two or more Rx chains.

[0060] Figure 6 is a schematic diagram of a structure of a receiving chain of the first terminal apparatus 10 according to an embodiment of this application. In Figure 6, the transceiver 11 comprises at least two Rx chains each handling signals on one CC, i.e., the Rx chain on the left handles signals on CC1 and the Rx chain on the right handles signals on CC2. In Figure 6, the transceiver 11 of the first terminal apparatus shares the antenna switch 111, the BPF 112, the TDD UL / DL switch 113, and the eLNA 114 among the processing of signals on CC1 and CC2. However, after the stages subsequent to the eLNA 114, dedicated components are used for each of the signals on CC1 and CC2 as shown in Figure 6. This type of configuration may be referred to as “type 3” . The first terminal apparatus 10 may comprise two or more Rx chains.

[0061] Configurations of Rx chains described in Figures 4 to 6 are exemplary, and other implementations can be also employed.

[0062] Figure 7 is a schematic diagram illustrating an IHR according to an embodiment of this application.

[0063] In the system depicted in Figure 1, two CCs, i.e., CC1 and CC2 may have significantly different power levels. In this case, there is an imbalance between a first power for CC1 and a second power for CC2. The power imbalance can be represented as 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) , where PCC1 and PCC2 are linear values and represent powers for the first and second powers, respectively. In the process of deriving the IHR, an absolute value of the power imbalance 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) is taken. A telecom standard organization (SDO) , e.g., 3GPP, may specify a value of power imbalance requirement that secures the receiver performance for a receiver of terminal apparatuses under the specified power imbalance.

[0064] However, for example, due to fluctuations in manufacturing process, the vendor’s manufacturing capabilities, or the vendor’s technical advancements, an actual IHR that a terminal apparatus can ensure the receiver performance may be larger than that of the standard specification as shown on comparison between the left and the right of Figure 7. The actual reference to derive power IHR is a maximum allowable imbalance (MAI) . In this case, a larger headroom based on not the specified value, but rather the terminal apparatus’a ctual ability, i.e., MAI, can be reported for enabling a base station apparatus to acknowledge the room for the terminal apparatus to handle signals with higher power imbalance between CC1 and CC2.

[0065] Figure 8 is a schematic flowchart of a method according to an embodiment of this application.

[0066] At step 1, the transceiver 11 of the first terminal apparatus 10 transmits, to the base station apparatus 30, capability information indicating whether or not the first terminal apparatus 10 supports a power IHR reporting. The capability information may indicate possible CA configurations with which part (s) of the CA can perform fragmented carriers CA and / or representative MAI values for networks that want to handle the UEs in a more static manner, i.e., without IHR or with less frequent reporting occasions. The terminal apparatus 10 may transmit the capability information through a radio resource control (RRC) signaling. Additionally or alternatively, the terminal apparatus 10 may transmit the capability information through a medium access control (MAC) signaling.

[0067] At step 2, the transceiver 31 of the base station apparatus may configure the terminal apparatus 10 with an IHR reporting triggering condition through a radio resource control (RRC) signaling. The configuring may be performed through a MAC CE signaling. The IHR condition may be, for example, a periodicity of the reporting, a case when the actual IHR specific to the terminal apparatus 10 exceeds, or is lower than, one value of one or more threshold values. The one or more threshold values may be pre-determined or pre-configured with the first terminal apparatus 10, or may be configured through explicit or implicit signaling from the base station apparatus 30 to the first terminal apparatus 10 for configuring a reporting condition or criteria. For example, the base station 30 may instruct the first terminal apparatus 10 to report the IHR if the obtained IHR exceeds the threshold.

[0068] At step 3, the transceiver 11 of the terminal apparatus may receive, from the base station apparatus 30, and in response to the capability information indicating that the first terminal apparatus 10 supports the power IHR reporting, configuration information of an imbalance reporting condition on-demand through a radio resource control (RRC) signaling. The configuring may be performed through a MAC CE signaling. The power IHR imbalance reporting condition may be, for example, a periodicity of the reporting, a case when the actual IHR specific to the terminal apparatus 10 exceeds, or is lower than, one value of one or more threshold values. The one or more threshold values may be pre-determined or pre-configured with the first terminal apparatus 10, or may be configured through explicit or implicit signaling from the base station apparatus 30.

[0069] The imbalance reporting condition may be, for example, an expiry of a timer for the reporting, and the timer may be started upon performing the measurements of the actual power imbalance between the signals on CC1 and CC2.

[0070] At step 4, the processing unit 12 performs, based on the configuration information and using the transceiver 11, a first measurement of a first actual power imbalance between a first power of a first downlink signal on a first component carrier (CC) , i.e., CC1, and a second power of a second downlink signal on a second CC, i.e., CC2, and calculates a first difference by subtracting an absolute value of the first actual power imbalance from a first maximum allowable imbalance (MAI) to generate power IHR information indicating the first difference and / or the first actual power imbalance. The maximum allowable imbalance is determined by a terminal apparatus with consideration of all the information available of all necessary factors that the terminal apparatus selects at a time of the decision-making. For instance, the MAI can be different depending on which receiver types, e.g., for non-fragmented carriers operation or fragmented carriers operation, are used for the measurement. The transceiver 11 reports the power IHR information to the base station apparatus 30. Here, the first CC and the second CC are non-contiguous as shown in Figure 1 or contiguous. Alternatively or additionally, the transceiver 11 may report a sign of positive (+) or negative (-) of the actual power imbalance or the actual power imbalance value depending on whether the actual power imbalance is greater than 0. Each of CC1 and CC2 can be referred to as “wanted carrier” .

[0071] At step 5, the base station apparatus 30 may instruct the terminal apparatus 10 to take necessary measures such as lowering a modulation order (MO) of downlink signals; changing the use of type 1 operation to type 2 or 3 operation; configuring a non-fragmented carrier CA; or disabling a CA operation. The instruction may be performed through the RRC signaling, signaling through a MAC-CE, or dynamic signaling that uses downlink control information (DCI) carried on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) . In this case, the processing unit 31 of the base station apparatus 30 may generate instruction information  indicating that a modulation order (MO) of the first downlink signal on the first component carrier (CC1) and / or the second power of the second downlink signal on a second CC (CC2) is lowered for a first receiver chain of the transceiver unit 11 if the power IHR information indicates that the first difference is smaller than or equal to one value of one or more threshold values, where the one or more threshold values for the base station apparatus 30 may be pre-determined or configured by the base station apparatus. Alternatively, if the power IHR information indicates that the first actual power imbalance is smaller than 0, or smaller than another value of the one or more threshold values, the base station apparatus 30 may instruct the terminal apparatus 10 to lower the MO.

[0072] For example, if the imbalance between the received power on CC1 and the received power on CC2 is large, the AGC may set the gain of LNAs to be small so that CC1 with higher power than CC2 is not distorted, resulting in an increased noise for the signal on CC2 and a degraded sensitivity.

[0073] For example, the processing unit 32 of the base station apparatus 30 may generate instruction information indicating that, if the power IHR information indicates that the first difference and / or the first actual power imbalance meets a criterion determined based on one value of one or more threshold values, where the one or more threshold values for the base station apparatus 30 are pre-determined or configured by the base station apparatus 30, a first receiver chain of the first terminal apparatus 10 is used for performing a first receiving processing of the first downlink signal on the first CC and a second receiving processing of the second downlink signal on the second CC. Here, the first receiver chain is included in the transceiver unit 11 of the terminal apparatus 10. A second receiver chain of the first terminal apparatus may be used for performing a receiving processing on the first CC of the first downlink signal or a downlink signal different from the first downlink signal, and performing a receiving processing on the second CC of the second downlink signal or a downlink signal different from the second downlink signal if the first terminal apparatus comprises two receiving chains.

[0074] The exemplary criterion here may be a case where the IHR information indicates that the first difference is greater than one value of one or more threshold values. Alternatively or additionally, the criterion may be a case where the power IHR information indicates that the first actual power imbalance is larger than 0, or larger than a value different from the one of the one or more threshold values.

[0075] In this case, when the transceiver unit 11 of the first terminal apparatus 10 receives the instruction information, the processing unit 12 may control the transceiver unit 11 to enable the first Rx chain for receiving the first downlink signal on the CC1 and the second downlink signal on the CC2 and / or the second Rx chain for receiving the first downlink signal on the CC1 and the second downlink signal on the CC2. Here, the second receiver chain is also included in the transceiver unit 11 of the terminal apparatus 10.

[0076] Alternatively, the processing unit 32 of the base station apparatus 30 may generate instruction information indicating that, if the power IHR information indicates that the first difference and / or the first actual power imbalance does not meet a criterion determined based on one value of one or more threshold values, where the one or more threshold values for the base station apparatus 30 are pre-determined or configured by the base station apparatus 30, a first receiver chain of the first terminal apparatus is used for performing the first receiving processing on the first CC and a second receiver chain of the first terminal apparatus is used for performing the second receiving processing of the second downlink signal on the second CC. Here, the second receiver chain is also included in the transceiver unit 11 of the terminal apparatus 10.

[0077] In this case, when the transceiver unit 11 of the first terminal apparatus 10 receives the instruction information, the processing unit 12 may control the transceiver unit 11 to enable both of the first receiver chain for receiving the first downlink signal on the CC1 and the second the second downlink signal on the CC2.

[0078] A second receiver chain of the first terminal apparatus may be used for performing a receiving processing on the first CC of the first downlink signal or a downlink signal different from the first downlink signal, and performing a receiving processing on the second CC of the second downlink signal or a downlink signal different from the second downlink signal, if the first terminal apparatus comprises two receiving chains.

[0079] In addition, three or more receiver chains can be also employed. For example, if the first terminal apparatus 10 comprises four receiver chains, i.e., Rx1, Rx2, Rx3, and Rx4, the base station 30 may configure the first terminal apparatus 10 to receive both CC1 and CC2 by using Rx1 to Rx4 depending on the power IHR information reported by the first terminal apparatus 10.

[0080] Alternatively, the base station 30 may configure the first terminal apparatus 10 to receive CC1 by one or two of the four Rxs and to receive CC2 by the remaining two / three or two of the four Rxs, depending on the power IHR information reported by the first terminal apparatus 10.

[0081] As step 6, the terminal apparatus 10 and the base station apparatus 30 may repeat processes of steps 3 to 5 until the situation is improved. For example, if the power IHR information indicates that a calculated result obtained by subtracting an absolute value of the actual power imbalance between the powers on CC1 and CC2 from a maximum allowable imbalance is smaller than or equal to one of the one or more threshold values, and / or if the actual power imbalance between the powers on CC1 and CC2 takes a negative value and is smaller than or equal to another value of the one threshold values to configure the terminal apparatus 10 with fragmented carriers CA, the base station apparatus 30 may use a lower modulation order (MO) for the downlink signal on CC1.

[0082] At step 7, the base station apparatus 30 may configure the terminal apparatus 10 with CA with fragmented carriers CA.

[0083] At step 8, the transceiver 11 may perform another measurement as described in step 4, and report the IHR (s) based on the configured side conditions in the second signaling from the base station apparatus, for example, and the IHR (s) to configure the terminal apparatus 10 with fragmented carriers CA may become smaller than configured threshold, etc.

[0084] At step 9, the base station, i.e., Network, may re-configure non-fragmented carriers CA, instead of the fragmented carriers CA with considering the IHR at step 8.

[0085] Figure 9 is a schematic diagram of a system applicable to a method according to another embodiment of this application. In this embodiment, CC1 and CC2 are carriers for the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and a third frequency block, which may be a third carrier for a second terminal apparatus 10-2 is also included in the wireless communications system, or the third carrier does not belong to any of the terminal apparatuses 10-1 and 10-2. The third frequency block behaves as an interference to the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and therefore, may be referred to as a first interference carrier (IF1) .

[0086] In this embodiment, the first terminal apparatus 10-1 performs the power imbalance measurements also taking IF1 into consideration to obtain 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) , 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) , and 10 log (PCC2 / PIF1) by using the processing unit 12 and the transceiver unit 11, where PIF1 refers to the power for the first interference carrier. Thus, at steps 4 and 8, the first terminal apparatus 10-1 performs the power imbalance measurements and reports the result to the base station apparatus by including at least one of a first power IHR using an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) , a second power IHR using an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) , and a third power IHR using an absolute value of 10 log (PCC2 / PIF1) together with the corresponding MAIs in the power IHR information.

[0087] For example, at step 4 or 8, the processing unit 12 and the transceiver unit 11 may perform a second measurement of a second actual power imbalance between the first received power of the first CC and a third received power of a third downlink signal on a third frequency block, i.e., IF1, and / or performing a third measurement of a third actual power imbalance between the second received power of the second CC and the third received power. The processing unit 11 may calculate a second difference by subtracting an absolute value of the second actual power imbalance from a second maximum allowable imbalance, and / or calculate a third difference by subtracting an absolute value of the third actual power imbalance from a third maximum allowable imbalance.

[0088] The processing unit 11 may include the second difference and / or the third difference and / or the second actual power imbalance and / or the third actual power imbalance in the power IHR information, and the transceiver unit 11 may transmit the power IHR information to the base station apparatus 30. Alternatively or additionally, the processing unit 11 may include, in the power IHR information, a sign of positive (+) or negative (-) of the actual power imbalance depending on whether the actual power imbalance is greater than 0, or the actual power imbalance value.

[0089] At step 10, the base station apparatus 30 may re-configure the fragmented carrier, CA with non-fragmented carriers.

[0090] Figure 10 shows exemplary tables for configuring implementations of carrier aggregation according to another embodiment of this application. Specifically, the tables shown in Figure 10 describe the criteria for performing measures at steps 5, 7, and 9 in Figure 8 when IF1 exists in the wireless communications system.

[0091] Figure 10 includes three tables for selecting CA modes. The table on the top shows the criteria for the base station apparatus 30 to select a non-carrier aggregation (non-CA) operation for the first terminal apparatus 10-1. In this embodiment, IHRFrag indicates a power IHR for fragmented carriers CA. As shown in “case 1” in Figure 10, the power IHRFrag information  indicates that all of the first, the second, and the third power IHRFrags are negative, i.e., smaller than 0, wherein, for example, the first power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) and a corresponding MAI is -30 dB, the second power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) and a corresponding MAI is -10 dB, and the third power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC2 / PIF1) and a corresponding MAI is -5 dB, the base station apparatus 30 may not configure the terminal apparatus with fragmented carriers CA. In addition, not all the power IHRNon-Frag is positive. The MAI is a value for a specific UE type to utilize fragmented carriers CA or non-fragmented carriers CA. Thus, the base station apparatus 30 may not configure the terminal apparatus with non-fragmented carriers CA as well. The base station apparatus 30, however, may instruct the terminal apparatus to use CC2 as single carrier operation if CC (s) other than CC2 is being used in the band, to keep using CC2 as single carrier operation if CC2 is being used, or to disable non-fragmented or fragmented carriers CA with CC1 and CC2 being configured for the band, because the third power IHRNon-Frag and / or IHRFrag is greater than the corresponding second power IHRNon-Frag and / or IHRFrag. In this embodiment, IHRNon-Frag indicates a power IHR for non-fragmented carriers CA. The IHRNon-Frag is based on a MAI specific UE type to utilize non-Fragmented carriers CA. Or the base station apparatus 30 may pursue to maintain the being configured CA operation including CC1 and CC2 by using another CC, e.g., a third component carrier (CC3) , or configure the terminal apparatus with non-fragmented CA operation with CC1 and CC3 or CC2 and CC3, if IHRNon-Frags associated with CC3 having a sufficient power IHR is available. Here the value “0” is just an example, and can be selected from one or more threshold values as already discussed.

[0092] The transceiver unit 31 of the base station apparatus 30 may transmit the instruction information to the terminal apparatus 10-1.

[0093] The table in the middle shows the criteria for the base station apparatus 30 to select a carrier aggregation as a normal non-contiguous CA for the first terminal apparatus 10-1. As shown in “case 2” in Figure 10, if the power IHRFrag information indicates that one of the first, the second, and the third power IHRFrags is positive, i.e., greater than 0, wherein, for example, the first power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) and the corresponding MAI is 5 dB, the second power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) and the corresponding MAI is -10 dB, and the third power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC2 / PIF1) and the corresponding MAI is -5 dB, the base station apparatus 30 may use CC1 and CC2 as a normal non-contiguous CA instead of utilizing fragmented carriers CA.

[0094] In this case, the processing unit 31 of the base station apparatus 30 may generate instruction information indicating that, if the power IHR information indicates that at least one of the first difference (i.e., IHR) , the second difference (i.e., IHR) , or the third difference (i.e., IHR) meets a criterion determined based on one value of one or more threshold values, a first receiver chain of the first terminal apparatus is used for performing a first receiving processing of the first downlink signal on the first CC and a second receiving processing of the second downlink signal on the second CC. Here, the one or more threshold values may be pre-determined or configured by the base station apparatus 30.

[0095] If all of the first, second, and third power IHRNon-Frags are positive, i.e., greater than 0, wherein, for example, the first power IHRNon-Frag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) and the corresponding MAI is 10 dB, the second power IHRNon-Frag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) and the corresponding MAI is 6 dB, and the third power IHRNon-Frag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC2 / PIF1) and the corresponding MAI is 3 dB, the base station apparatus 30 may use CC1 and CC2 as non-fragmented carriers CA instead of utilizing fragmented carriers CA.

[0096] The table on the bottom shows the criteria for the base station apparatus 30 to select a carrier aggregation as a CA with fragmented carriers for the first terminal apparatus 10-1. As shown in “case 3” in Figure 10, if the power IHRFrag information indicates that all of the first, the second, and the third power IHRs is positive, i.e., greater than 0, wherein, for example, the first power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) and the corresponding MAI is 10 dB, the second power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) and the corresponding MAI is 8 dB, and the third power IHRFrag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC2 / PIF1) and the corresponding MAI is 5 dB, the base station apparatus 30 may use CC1 and CC2 as fragmented carriers CA.

[0097] Alternatively, since all of the first, second, and third power IHRNon-Frags are positive, i.e., greater than 0, wherein, for example, the first power IHRNon-Frag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) and the corresponding MAI is 30 dB, the second power IHRNon-Frag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) and the corresponding MAI is 15 dB, and the third power  IHRNon-Frag based on an absolute value of 10 log (PCC2 / PIF1) and the corresponding MAI is 10 dB, the base station apparatus 30 may use CC1 and CC2 as non-fragmented carriers CA.

[0098] Additionally or alternatively in the system illustrated in Figure 9, the processing unit 31 of the base station apparatus 30 may generate instruction information indicating that, if the power IHR information indicates that none of the first difference, the second difference, or the third difference meets a criterion determined based on one value of one or more threshold values, a first receiver chain of the first terminal apparatus is used for performing the first receiving processing on the first CC and a second receiver chain of the first terminal apparatus is used for performing the second receiving processing of the second downlink signal on the second CC. Here, the one or more threshold values for the base station apparatus 30 may be pre-determined or configured by the base station apparatus 30.

[0099] Additionally or alternatively, in the system illustrated in Figure 9, the processing unit 12 may perform a measurement of a maximum receive time difference (MRTD) between the first downlink signal on CC1 and the second downlink signal on CC1 by using a receiver chain (s) of the first terminal apparatus 10-1. The processing unit 12 may include a MRTD imbalance headroom that is “maximum allowable MRTD minus an absolute value of the measured MRTD” in the power IHR information or in the MRTD specific IHR information. Maximum allowable MRTD is determined by terminal apparatus with consideration of all the information available of all necessary factors that the terminal apparatus selects at a time of the decision-making. The processing unit 12 may further include a calculated result of the maximum allowable MRTD minus the measured MRTD in the IHR information, or in the MRTD specific IHR information. The processing unit 12 may further include a sign of positive (+) or negative (-) depending on whether the calculated result of the maximum allowable MRTD minus the measured MRTD is greater than 0 or not. The transceiver 11 may transmit the power IHR information and / or the MRTD specific IHR information.

[0100] Figure 11 is a schematic block diagram of a system applicable to a method according to another embodiment of this application.

[0101] In this embodiment, for example, CC1 and CC2 are carriers for the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and a third and a fourth carriers for a second terminal apparatus 10-2 and a third terminal apparatus 10-3, respectively, are also included in the wireless communications system. The third and the fourth carriers may be referred to as third and fourth frequency blocks. Here, the third and the fourth frequency blocks may not belong to any of the terminal apparatuses 10-1 to 10-3. The third and the fourth frequency blocks behave as an interference to the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and therefore, may be referred to as a first interference carrier (IF1) and a second interference carrier (IF2) .

[0102] In this embodiment, the first terminal apparatus 10-1 performs the power imbalance measurements also taking IF1 and IF2 into consideration to obtain 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) , 10 log (PCC1 /  (PIF1+ PIF2) ) , and 10 log (PCC2 /  (PIF1+ PIF2) ) and the respective power IHR further by using the corresponding MAIs, by using the processing unit 12 and the transceiver unit 11, where PIF1 and PIF2 refer to the received power for the first and the second interferences, respectively. The point here is that a sum of powers for the first and the second interferences is considered.

[0103] Thus, at steps 4 and 8, the first terminal apparatus 10-1 performs the power imbalance measurements and reports the result to the base station apparatus by including at least one of a first power IHR obtained by subtracting an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) from MAI, a fourth power IHR obtained by subtracting an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 /  (PIF1+ PIF2) ) from MAI, or a fifth power IHR obtained by subtracting an absolute value of 10 log (PCC2 /  (PIF1+ PIF2) ) from MAI in the power IHR information. The processing unit 12 may further include at least one of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) , 10 log (PCC1 /  (PIF1+ PIF2) ) , or 10 log (PCC2 /  (PIF1+ PIF2) ) in the IHR information. The processing unit 12 may further include a sign of positive (+) or negative (-) depending on whether 10 log(PCC1 / PCC2) , 10 log (PCC1 /  (PIF1+ PIF2) ) , or 10 log (PCC2 /  (PIF1+ PIF2) ) is greater than 0 or not. Then, the transceiver 11 may transmit the power IHR information to the base station apparatus 30.

[0104] Figure 12 is a schematic block diagram of a system applicable to a method according to another embodiment of this application.

[0105] In this embodiment, for example, CC1 through CC3 are carriers for the first terminal apparatus 10-1. In this case, there is an imbalance between a first power for CC1 and a second power for CC2, denoted as 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) ; an imbalance between the second power for CC2 and a third power for CC3, denoted as 10 log (PCC2 / PCC3) ; and an imbalance between the third power for CC3 and the first power for CC1, denoted as 10 log (PCC3 / PCC1) , where PCC1 to PCC3 are linear values.

[0106] In this case, the processing unit 12 and the transceiver unit 11 may perform the measurements to obtain a first difference by subtracting an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) from a first MAI, where the first MAI may be specific to the combination of the CC1 and CC2. Additionally or alternatively, the processing unit 12 and the transceiver unit 11 may perform the measurements to obtain a second difference by subtracting an absolute value of 10 log (PCC2 / PCC3) from a second MAI, where the second MAI may be specific to the combination of the CC2 and CC3. Additionally or alternatively, the processing unit 12 and the transceiver unit 11 may perform the measurements to obtain a third difference by subtracting an absolute value of 10 log (PCC3 / PCC1) from a third MAI, where the third MAI may be specific to the combination of the CC3 and CC1. Here, the “difference” corresponds to a power IHR.

[0107] Then, the processing unit 12 may include at least one of the first, the second, or the third differences in the power IHR information. Alternatively or additionally, the processing unit 12 may include at least one of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) , 10 log (PCC2 / PCC3) , or 10 log (PCC3 / PCC1) in the power IHR information. The processing unit 12 may further include a sign of positive (+) or negative (-) depending on whether 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) , 10 log (PCC2 / PCC3) , or 10 log (PCC3 / PCC1) is greater than 0 or not. The transceiver unit 11 may transmit the power IHR information to the base station apparatus 30.

[0108] In response, the base station apparatus 30 may perform at least one of steps 5 to 7 and 9 shown in Figure 8.

[0109] Figure 13 is a schematic block diagram of a system applicable to a method according to another embodiment of this application.

[0110] In this embodiment, for example, CC1 through CC3 are carriers for the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and a third and a fourth carriers for a second terminal apparatus 10-2 and a third terminal apparatus 10-3, respectively, are also included in the wireless communications system. Here, the third and the fourth carriers may not belong to any of the terminal apparatuses 10-1 to 10-3 and may be referred to as a third frequency block and a fourth frequency block. The third and the fourth frequency blocks behave as an interference to the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and therefore, may be referred to as a first interference carrier (IF1) and a second interference carrier (IF2) .

[0111] Figure 14 shows exemplary tables for configuring implementations of carrier aggregation according to an embodiment of this application. Cases 1 to 9 cover combinations for calculating the actual power imbalance in the system illustrated in Figure 12. The point here is that if at least an expected power IHR among multiple power IHRs is large on the receiver chain of the terminal apparatus 10-1. The base station apparatus 30 may configure CA with fragmented carriers of CC1 and CC3 in the case of Example 1 in Figure 14. In this case, the processing unit 11 of the terminal apparatus 10 may generate power IHR information indicating differences obtained by subtracting absolute values of the measured power imbalances between (i) a first selection from a first CC or a first IF among CC1 to CC3, IF1, and IF2 and (ii) a second CC or a second IF of CC1 to CC3, IF1, and IF2 excluding the first selection, from maximum allowable imbalances for each of the pairs, respectively, by following the above-discussed procedures. The MAIs may be specific to the pairs among the CCs and IFs. Alternatively or additionally, the processing unit 11 may include the actual power imbalances between (i) a first selection from a first CC or a first IF among CC1 to CC3, IF1, and IF2 and (ii) a second CC or a second IF of CC1 to CC3, IF1, and IF2 excluding the first selection, in the power IHR information, and the transceiver 11 may transmit the power IHR information to the base station apparatus 30 at either step 4 or 8. Then, the base station apparatus 30 may perform operations at any one of steps 5 and 9 as already discussed.

[0112] Figure 15 is a schematic block diagram of a system applicable to a method according to another embodiment of this application.

[0113] In this embodiment, CC1 through CC3 are carriers for the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and a third and a fourth carriers for a second terminal apparatus 10-2 and a third terminal apparatus 10-3, respectively, are also included in the wireless communications system. The third and the fourth carriers may not belong to any of the terminal apparatuses 10-1 to 10-3 and may be referred to as a third frequency block and a fourth frequency block. The third and the fourth frequency blocks behave as an interference to the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and therefore, may be referred to as a first interference carrier (IF1) and a second interference carrier (IF2) . The difference over the example of Figures 12 and 13 is the powers for CC1 to CC3, IF1, and IF2.

[0114] Figure 16 shows exemplary tables for configuring implementations of carrier aggregation according to an embodiment of this application. Cases 1 to 9 cover combinations for calculating the actual power imbalance in the system illustrated in Figure 14. The point here is that if imbalances between the powers are small, and more than one expected power IHR among multiple power IHRs is large on the receiver chain of the terminal apparatus 10-1., the base station apparatus 30 may configure CA with  fragmented carriers of CC1, CC2, and CC3 in the case of Example 2 of Figure 16. In this case, the processing unit 11 of the terminal apparatus 10 may generate power IHR information indicating a difference obtained by subtracting an absolute value of the measured power ratio, for example, 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) from the corresponding MAI. Alternatively or additionally, the processing unit 11 may include the value of 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) in the power IHR information. Alternatively or additionally, the processing unit 12 may further include a sign of positive (+) or negative (-) depending on whether 10 log (PCC1 / PCC2) is greater than 0 or not. The processing unit 12 may perform one or more power IHR calculations for other frequency pairs among CC1 to CC3, IF1, and IF2, and include the one or more power IHR in the power IHR, and transceiver 11 may transmit the power IHR information to the base station apparatus 30 at either step 4 or 8 in Figure 8, and the base station apparatus 30 may perform operations at either step 5 or 9 in Figure 8 as already discussed.

[0115] Figure 17 is a schematic block diagram of a system applicable to a method according to another embodiment of this application.

[0116] In this embodiment, CC1 and CC2 are carriers for the first terminal apparatus 10-1. A third and a fourth carriers may be for a second terminal apparatus 10-2, and a fifth carrier may be for a third terminal apparatus 10-3. The third through the fifth carriers may not belong to any of the terminal apparatuses 10-1 to 10-3 and may be referred to as a third, a fourth, and a fifth frequency block. The third through the fifth frequency blocks behave as an interference to the first terminal apparatus 10-1, and therefore, may be referred to as a first interference (IF1) , a second interference (IF2) , and a third interference (IF3) , respectively. One difference over the previous embodiments is that the interferences, i.e., IF1 and IF3, are not between CC1 and CC2.

[0117] As discussed in the previous embodiments, the processing unit 12 and the transceiver unit 11 performs measurements of powers for CC1 and CC2, and IF1 through IF2. Then, the processing unit 12 may calculate a power IHR, for example, for a pair of CC1 and IF1, by subtracting an absolute value of 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) from a corresponding MAI, and include the calculated power IHR in the power IHR information.

[0118] Additionally or alternatively, the processing unit 12, may include the value of 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) in the power IHR information. Alternatively or additionally, the processing unit 12 may further include a sign of positive (+) or negative (-) depending on whether 10 log (PCC1 / PIF1) is greater than 0 or not. In a similar manner for the pair of CC1 and IF1, the processing unit 12 may perform one or more power IHR calculations for other frequency pairs among CC1, CC2, and IF1 to IF3, and include the one or more power IHR in the power IHR. The transceiver unit 11 may transmit the power IHR information to the base station apparatus 30 at either step 4 or 8 in Figure 8, and the base station apparatus 30 may perform operations at either step 5 or 9 in Figure 8 as already discussed.

[0119] In a possible design, the apparatus 1000 may be the first network device in the foregoing method embodiments, or may be a chip configured to implement a function of the first network device in the foregoing method embodiments.

[0120] It should be understood that, the apparatus 1000 may correspond to the first network device in the method 300 according to embodiments of this application, and the apparatus 1000 may include units configured to perform the method performed by the first network device in the method 300 in Figure 2. In addition, the units in the apparatus 1000 and the foregoing other operations and / or functions are separately used to implement corresponding procedures of the method 300 in Figure 3. It should be understood that a specific process in which the units perform the foregoing corresponding steps is described in detail in the foregoing method embodiments. For brevity, details are not described herein again.

[0121] For example, the processing unit 1020 included in the apparatus 1000 may correspond to the generation module shown in (a) in Figure 2. Optionally, the processing unit 1020 may further correspond to the calculation module and the quantization module shown in (a) in Figure 2. Alternatively, the processing unit 1020 included in the apparatus 1000 may correspond to the generation module shown in (b) in Figure 2. Optionally, the processing unit 1020 may further correspond to the calculation module, the quantization module, the reconstruction module, and the beamforming module shown in (b) in Figure 2.

[0122] In another possible design, the apparatus 1000 may be the second network device in the foregoing method embodiments, or may be a chip configured to implement a function of the second network device in the foregoing method embodiments.

[0123] It should be understood that, the apparatus 1000 may correspond to the second network device in the method 300 according to embodiments of this application, and the apparatus 1000 may include units configured to perform the method performed by the second network device in the method 300 in Figure 3.

[0124] For example, the processing unit 1020 included in the apparatus 1000 may correspond to the reconstruction module and the beamforming module shown in (a) in Figure 2.

[0125] It should be further understood that, the transceiver unit 1010 in the apparatus 1000 may correspond to a transceiver 2020 in an apparatus 2000 shown in Figure 6, and the processing unit 1020 in the apparatus 1000 may correspond to a processor 2010 in the apparatus 2000 shown in Figure 6.

[0126] It should be further understood that, when the apparatus 1000 is a chip, the chip includes a transceiver unit and a processing unit. The transceiver unit may be an input / output circuit or a communication interface. The processing unit may be a processor, a microprocessor, or an integrated circuit that is integrated on the chip.

[0127] The transceiver unit 1010 is configured to implement a signal receiving and sending operation of the apparatus 1000, and the processing unit 1020 is configured to implement a signal processing operation of the apparatus 1000.

[0128] Optionally, the apparatus 1000 further includes a storage unit 1030, and the storage unit 1030 is configured to store instructions.

[0129] Hardware configurations for the first terminal apparatus 10 and the base station apparatus 30 are explained referring to Figures 2 and 3.

[0130] Figure 2 is a schematic block diagram of the first terminal apparatus 10, and Figure 3 is a schematic block diagram of the base station apparatus 10 according to an embodiment of this application. The processing unit 12 is coupled to the memory unit 13, and the processing unit 12 is coupled to the memory unit 33. The processing unit 12 is configured to execute instructions stored in the memory unit 13 to perform the method described in Figures 8, 10, 13, and 15. The processing unit 32 is configured to execute instructions stored in the memory unit 33 to perform the method described in Figures 8, 10, 13, and 15.

[0131] It should be understood that the processing unit 12 and the memory unit 13 may be integrated into one processing apparatus, and the processing unit 32 and the memory unit 33 may be integrated into one processing apparatus. The processing unit 12 is configured to execute program code stored in the memory unit 13 to implement the foregoing functions, and the processing unit 32 is configured to execute program code stored in the memory unit 33 to implement the foregoing functions.

[0132] During specific implementation, the memory unit 13 may also be integrated into the processing unit 12, or may be independent of the processing unit 12. Similarly, the memory unit 33 may also be integrated into the processing unit 32, or may be independent of the processing unit 32.

[0133] It should be further understood that the transceiver unit 11 may further include an antenna. There may be one or more antennas. The transceiver unit 11 may alternatively be a communication interface or an interface circuit. The transceiver unit 31 may alternatively be a communication interface or an interface circuit.

[0134] When the first terminal apparatus 10 is a chip, the chip includes a transceiver unit and a processing unit. The transceiver unit may be an input / output circuit or a communication interface. The processing unit may be a processor, a microprocessor, or an integrated circuit that is integrated on the chip. When the base station 30 is a chip, the chip includes a transceiver unit and a processing unit. The transceiver unit may be an input / output circuit or a communication interface. The processing unit may be a processor, a microprocessor, or an integrated circuit that is integrated on the chip.

[0135] An embodiment of this application further provides a processing apparatus, including a processor and an interface. The processor may be configured to perform the method in the foregoing method embodiments.

[0136] It should be understood that the processing apparatus may be a chip. For example, the processing apparatus may be a field programmable gate array (field programmable gate array, FPGA) , an application-specific integrated chip (application-specific integrated circuit, ASIC) , a system on chip (system on chip, SoC) , a central processing unit (central processing unit, CPU) , a network processor (network processor, NP) , a digital signal processing circuit (digital signal processor, DSP) , a micro controller unit (micro controller unit, MCU) , a programmable controller (programmable logic device, PLD) , or another integrated chip.

[0137] In an implementation process, the steps in the foregoing method may be completed by using a hardware integrated logic circuit in the processor or by using instructions in a form of software. The steps in the method disclosed with reference to embodiments of this application may be directly performed by a hardware processor, or may be performed by using a combination of hardware in the processor and a software module. The software module may be located in a mature storage medium in the art,  such as a random access memory, a flash memory, a read-only memory, a programmable read-only memory, an electrically erasable programmable memory, or a register. The storage medium is located in the memory, and the processor reads information in the memory and completes the steps in the foregoing method in combination with the hardware in the processor. To avoid repetition, details are not described here.
