AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing implementations of layer 1 (L1) and layer 2 (L2) triggered mobility (LTM) are incomplete, lacking clear methods for selecting reference signals for conditional LTM, supporting L3 event-based conditional LTM, achieving early synchronization, and handling L2 operations such as self-organizing network (SON)/minimization of drive tests (MDT) for LTM.

Method used

A terminal device determines a reference signal (RS) associated with an activated transmission configuration indication (TCI) state and a valid uplink grant resource for LTM cell switch, while a network device receives measurement reports and transmits assistance information for LTM candidate cells, facilitating early synchronization and enhancing L2 handling through PDCP data recovery and SON/MDT.

Benefits of technology

Enables effective RS selection for conditional LTM, supports L3 event-based conditional LTM, and enhances L2 handling and SON/MDT operations, thereby improving the LTM procedure efficiency and reliability.

Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to devices and methods of communication. In one aspect, a terminal device may determine, from a first set of RSs fulfilling one or more conditions associated with a LTM candidate configuration, a first RS associated with an activated TCI state. Based on the first RS, the terminal device may determine a valid configured uplink grant resource for a LTM cell switch procedure. In this way, a selection of a RS for conditional LTM may be carried out.

Description

DEVICES AND METHODS OF COMMUNICATIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication, and in particular, to devices and methods of communication for layer 1 (L1) or layer 2 (L2) triggered mobility (LTM) .BACKGROUND

[0002] LTM is a mobility procedure in which a network device receives a L1 measurement report from a terminal device, and changes the terminal device’s serving cell by a cell switch command signaled via a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) . The LTM procedure may be used to reduce mobility latency. To further reduce mobility latency, it is proposed recently to support conditional LTM. For conditional LTM, a cell switch is not triggered by the MAC CE, but by a condition fulfilled at the terminal device side. In this way, mobility latency may be further reduced. However, implementations of LTM are still incomplete and need to be further developed.SUMMARY

[0051] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication network 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1, the communication network 100 may include a terminal device 110 and network devices 120 and 130. The network device 120 may provide one or more cells (cells 122-1, 122-2, 123-1, and 123-2 as shown) to serve one or more terminal devices. The network device 130 may also provide one or more cells (not shown) to serve one or more terminal devices.

[0052] As shown in FIG. 1, the network device 120 may comprise a CU 121 and DUs 122 and 123. The CU 121 may communicate with the DUs 122 and 123. It is to be understood that the two DUs 122 and 123 are shown only for illustration, and more or less DUs may also be provided for implementation of embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0053] As shown in FIG. 1, the DU 122 provides the cells 122-1 and 122-2 and the DU 123 provides the cells 123-1 and 123-2. It is to be understood that this is merely an example, and any of the DUs 122 and 123 may provide more or less cells. The terminal device 110 may communicate with any of these cells. In this example, the terminal device 110 is located in the cell 123-1 and served by the network device 120.

[0054] Although not shown, the network device 130 may comprise a CU and one or more DUs as described in connection with the network device 120. Alternatively, the network device 130 may not be implemented in a CU-DU architecture, and may be implemented in an integrated architecture as shown.

[0055] The CU 121 may communicate with the network device 130. In some embodiments where the network device 130 comprises a CU and one or more DUs, the CU 121 may communicate with the CU of the network device 130.

[0056] As shown in FIG. 1, the communication network 100 may further include a core network (CN) 135. The terminal device 110 may communicate with the CN 135 via the network device 120 and / or the network device 130. In this example, the terminal device 110 may communicate with the CU 121 via the DU 123 and the CU 121 may further communicate with the CN 135.

[0057] It is to be understood that the number of devices or cells or CUs or DUs in FIG. 1 is given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication network 100 may include any suitable number of network devices and / or terminal devices and / or cells and / or CUs and / or DUs adapted for  implementing implementations of the present disclosure.

[0058] The communications in the communication network 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, global system for mobile communications (GSM) , long term evolution (LTE) , LTE-evolution, LTE-advanced (LTE-A) , new radio (NR) , wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) , code division multiple access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE radio access network (GERAN) , machine type communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0059] Communication in a direction from the terminal device 110 towards the network device 120 is referred to as UL communication, while communication in a reverse direction from the network device 120 towards the terminal device 110 is referred to as DL communication. The terminal device 110 may move amongst the cells of the network devices 120 and 130 and possibly other network devices. In UL communication, the terminal device 110 may transmit UL data and control information to the network device 120 or 130 via a UL channel. In DL communication, the network device 120 or 130 may transmit DL data and control information to the terminal device 110 via a DL channel.

[0060] With reference to FIG. 1, a CU (e.g., the CU 121) may be responsible for accomplishing functionalities of RRC, service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) and packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) entities, and a DU (e.g., the DU 122 or 123 may be responsible for accomplishing functionalities of the RLC entity, the MAC entity and the PHY entity. In some embodiments, a CU and a DU may be implemented in separate devices. In some embodiments, a CU and a DU may be implemented in the same device. In some embodiments, different DUs may be implemented in separate devices. In some embodiments, different CUs are implemented in separate devices.

[0061] In the context of the present disclosure, a CU (also referred to as a gNB-CU herein) is a logic node hosting RRC, SDAP and PDCP protocols of a gNB or RRC and PDCP protocols of an en-gNB that controls operation of one or more DUs (also referred to as gNB-DUs herein) . The gNB-CU terminates a F1 interface connected with the gNB-DU.  A DU is a logical node hosting RLC, MAC and PHY layers of the gNB or en-gNB, and its operation is partly controlled by gNB-CU. One gNB-DU supports one or multiple cells. One cell is supported by only one gNB-DU. The gNB-DU terminates a F1 interface connected with the gNB-CU.

[0062] Continuing to refer to FIG. 1, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may be located within the coverage of the cell 123-1, and the terminal device 110 may communicate with the DU 123 of the network device 120 based on a network configuration. In this case, the cell 123-1 may be referred to as a serving cell of the terminal device 110. Other cells such as the cells 122-1, 122-2 and 123-2 may be referred to as candidate cells of the terminal device 110.

[0063] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may establish a dual connection (i.e., simultaneous connection) with the network device 120 and the network device 130. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may serve as a master node (MN) . In these embodiments, the terminal device 110 may communicate with the network device 120 via a set of serving cells. The set of serving cells form a MCG, and a primary cell in the MCG is called as PCell. In some scenarios, the PCell may be changed from the cell 123-1 to the cell 131 when an execution condition of the cell 131 for PCell change is fulfilled. This is called as a conditional handover (CHO) .

[0064] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may serve as a secondary node (SN) . In these embodiments, the set of serving cells provided by the network device 120 form an SCG, and a primary cell in the SCG is called as PSCell. In some scenarios, the PSCell may be changed from the cell 123-1 to the cell 131. This is called as a PSCell change.

[0065] In some scenarios, the network device 120 may receive L1 measurement reports from the terminal device 110. Based on the L1 measurement reports, the network device 120 may change a serving cell or add a serving cell of the terminal device 110 through a MAC CE. This procedure is called as LTM. The network device 120 may prepare one or multiple candidate cells and provides candidate cell configurations to the terminal device 110 through an RRC message. Then an LTM cell switch is triggered by selecting one of the candidate cell configurations as a target configuration for the LTM by the network device 120.

[0066] In some scenarios, the terminal device 110 may perform an evaluation for a set of  candidate cells allowing LTM by L1 measurements or L3 measurements based execution condition (s) on the set of candidate cells. If the execution condition (s) of a cell switch to a candidate cell is fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may change a serving cell (e.g., PCell or PSCell) of the terminal device 110 to the candidate cell, or add the candidate cell as the serving cell. This procedure is called as conditional LTM herein.

[0067] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide solutions of communication for LTM so as to enhance a LTM procedure. More details will be described with reference to FIGs. 2 to 6 below.

[0068] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF CONDITIONAL LTM

[0069] In legacy LTM, information of a TCI state is signaled to a terminal device by a LTM cell switch command MAC CE, and a terminal device selects a RS associated with the TCI state. For conditional LTM, there is no LTM cell switch command MAC CE. Currently, it is unclear how to select a RS for conditional LTM. Further, it is unclear how to support L3 event based conditional LTM.

[0070] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of RS selection for conditional LTM. The solution will be described in connection with FIG. 2 below.

[0071] FIG. 2 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating an example process 200 of communication according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 200 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. In this example, the network device 120 provides a serving cell for the terminal device 110 and also provides one or more candidate cells for the terminal device 110. The serving cell may be SpCell, PCell or PSCell of the terminal device 110.

[0072] As shown in FIG. 2, at step 210, the network device 120 may transmit a LTM configuration to the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the LTM configuration may comprise a set of LTM candidate configurations for a set of LTM candidate cells. Each LTM candidate configuration in the set of LTM candidate configurations may be associated with one LTM candidate cell.

[0073] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may also transmit a configuration of one or more conditions (may be also referred to as execution conditions or triggering conditions) to the terminal device 110. When the one or more conditions are fulfilled, a  LTM cell switch procedure may be initiated. In some embodiments, the LTM configuration may comprise the configuration of the one or more conditions. In some embodiments, one LTM candidate configuration of the set of LTM candidate configurations may comprise the configuration of the one or more conditions associated with the LTM candidate configuration. In some embodiments, the LTM configuration may comprise mapping information between a set of conditions and the LTM candidate configurations. In other words, one or more conditions may be associated with one LTM candidate configuration.

[0074] In some embodiments, the one or more conditions may be one or more L1 measurement based events, e.g., event LTM3 or LTM5. In some embodiments, the one or more conditions may be one or more L3 measurement based events, e.g., CondEvent A3 or CondEvent A5.

[0075] In some embodiments, in case the one or more conditions are L1 measurement based event, the one or more conditions associated with a LTM candidate configuration may comprise a L1 measurement result of a RS of an associated LTM candidate cell is amount of offset better than the L1 measurement result of a RS of a serving cell. In some embodiments, in case the one or more conditions are L1 measurement based event, the one or more conditions associated with a LTM candidate configuration may comprise a L1 measurement result of a RS of the serving cell is worse than a threshold, and a L1 measurement result of a RS of a candidate cell is better than another threshold. It is to be noted that the one or more conditions associated with the LTM candidate configuration may comprise any combinations of the above conditions. It is to be noted that L1 measurement result means that the measurement result is provided / generated by the physical layer (L1) .

[0076] In some embodiments, in case the one or more conditions are L3 measurement based event, the one or more conditions associated with a LTM candidate configuration may comprise a L3 measurement result of an associated LTM candidate cell is amount of offset better than a L3 measurement result of a serving cell (CondEvent A3) . In some embodiments, in case the one or more conditions are L3 measurement based event, the one or more conditions associated with a LTM candidate configuration may comprise a L3 measurement result of the serving cell is worse than a threshold, and a L3 measurement result of a LTM candidate cell is better than another threshold. It is to be noted that the one or more conditions associated with the LTM candidate configuration may comprise any combinations of the above conditions. It is to be noted that L3 measurement result means  that the measurement result is provided / generated by the RRC layer (L3) .

[0077] In some embodiments, the LTM configuration may comprise a configured set of RSs for the LTM candidate cell associated with the LTM candidate configuration.

[0078] At step 220, upon a configured one or more conditions associated with one LTM candidate configuration are fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may determine that a LTM cell switch procedure is initiated. In some embodiments, the one ore more conditions are the L1 measurement based events or the L3 measurement events. In some embodiments, the one or more conditions are L3 measurement based events, a RRC layer of the terminal device 110 may determine the one or more conditions are fulfilled, and initiate the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the RRC layer may transmit or indicate information of the LTM cell switch procedure to lower layers of the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the lower layers may comprise at least one of a physical layer or a MAC layer.

[0079] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may comprise an indication indicating that the LTM cell switch procedure is initiated.

[0080] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may comprise information of one or more RSs for the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the information of the one or more RSs may be an index of each RS in the one or more RSs. In some embodiments, upon initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure, the terminal device 110 may determine the one or more RSs from the configured set of RSs of the LTM candidate configuration or candidate cell. In some embodiments, the one or more RSs may have the highest (e.g., top N, where N is an integer number) measurement result, e.g., reference signal received power (RSRP) , reference signal received quality (RSRQ) , or signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) , among the configured set of RSs of LTM candidate configurations or candidate cells. The one or more RSs may correspond to a first set of RSs or a first RS or a second RS as described later.

[0081] In some embodiments, the information of the LTM cell switch procedure may comprise information of a TCI state. In some embodiments, the information of the TCI state may comprise an index of the TCI state. In some embodiments, the TCI state may be associated with a RS of LTM candidate configurations or candidate cells which has the highest measurement result, e.g., RSRP, RSRQ, or SINR. The RS may correspond to a first RS or a second RS as described later.

[0082] In some embodiments, upon reception of the information of the LTM cell switch procedure from the RRC layer, the lower layers may determine whether a RACH-less LTM cell switch procedure can be performed, and select or determine the RS, a valid configured uplink grant resource and an activated TCI state for the LTM cell switch procedure based on the information of the LTM cell switch procedure provided by the RRC layer.

[0083] At step 230, upon initiation of the LTM cell switch procedure, the terminal device 110 may determine, from a set of RSs (for convenience, also referred to as a first set of RSs herein) , a RS (for convenience, also referred to as a first RS herein) associated with an activated TCI state. In some embodiments, the first set of RSs fulfills one or more conditions associated with one LTM candidate configuration. In some embodiments, the one or more conditions may be the L1 measurement based event associated with the LTM candidate configuration. In some embodiments, the one or more conditions may be that the measurement result of the set of RSs have the highest value (top N, where N is an integer number) among the configured set of RSs.

[0084] In some embodiments, as shown in step 231, the terminal device 110 may determine, from the configured set of RSs, the first set of RSs fulfilling the one or more conditions, and select the first RS from the first set of RSs. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform measurements for the configured set of RSs, and evaluate the one or more conditions for the configured set of RSs based on the measurements. If a RS in the configured set of RSs fulfills the one or more conditions, the terminal device 110 may include the RS in the first set of RSs. As such, the first set of RSs may be determined based on measurements and evaluation for the configured set of RSs.

[0085] In some embodiments, if a RS in the first set of RSs is associated with the activated TCI state, the terminal device 110 may determine the RS as the first RS. For example, if the first set of RSs includes multiple RSs (RS#1, RS#2, RS#3) , and if one (RS#1) of multiple RSs is associated with one activated TCI state (TCI state #1) , the terminal device 110 may select the RS (RS#1) .

[0086] In some embodiments, if multiple RSs in the first set of RSs are associated with activated TCI states, the terminal device 110 may select one of the multiple RSs as the first RS. For example, if the first set of RSs includes multiple RSs (RS#1, RS#2, RS#3) , and if RS#2 and RS#3 are associated with activated TCI states, the terminal device 110 may select one of RS#2 and RS#3. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may select the one  of the multiple RSs by selecting a RS with a highest measurement result (e.g., RSRP) , RSRQSINR) among the multiple RSs. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may select the one of the multiple RSs randomly.

[0087] In some embodiments, as shown in step 232, the terminal device 110 may determine a set of RSs (for convenience, also referred to as a second set of RSs herein) associated with activated TCI states of LTM candidate cells. Then the terminal device 110 may determine the first set of RSs fulling the one or more conditions from the second set of RSs and determine the first RS from the first set of RSs.

[0088] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may evaluate the one or more conditions for the second set of RSs. That is, condition evaluation may be performed only for one or more RSs associated with the activated TCI states of the LTM candidate cells in the configured set of RSs.

[0089] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform a measurement for the second set of RSs, and evaluate the one or more conditions for the second set of RSs based on the measurement. In other words, the measurement may be performed only for one or more RSs associated with the activated TCI states of the LTM candidate cells in the configured set of RSs for condition evaluation.

[0090] For illustration, an example procedure for measurement and condition evaluation may be described as below.

[0091] Source cell sends a conditional LTM configuration via RRCReconfiguration to UE, which includes a set of LTM candidate configurations associated with a set of LTM candidate cells, and the corresponding execution conditions. Upon reception of the conditional LTM configuration, the UE performs condition evaluation for a set of reference signals associated with the activated TCI states of the LTM candidate cells, or performs measurement for a set of reference signals associated with the activated TCI states of the LTM candidate cells for condition evaluation.

[0092] In some embodiments, if a RS in the second set of RSs fulfills the one or more conditions, the terminal device 110 may include the RS in the first set of RSs. As such, the first set of RSs may be determined based on measurements and evaluation for the second set of RSs. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may select, as the first RS, a RS with a highest measurement result in the first set of RSs. It is to be noted that  any other suitable ways may also be feasible.

[0093] With reference to FIG. 2, at step 240, based on the first RS (i.e., a selected RS) , the terminal device 110 may determine a valid configured uplink grant resource for the LTM cell switch procedure. For example, if the configured uplink grant resource is associated with the first RS, the terminal device 110 may determine that the configuration grant resource as valid. The terminal device 110 may perform a first physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission based on the valid configured grant resource. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may indicate a TCI state associated with the first RS (i.e., the selected RS) to a lower layer (e.g., physical layer) , and activate the TCI state associated with the first RS (i.e., the selected RS) .

[0094] In some embodiments, if no RSs in the first set of RSs or the configured set of RSs are associated with activated TCI states, the terminal device 110 may determine a second RS, and determine the valid configured uplink grant resource for the LTM cell switch procedure based on the second RS. For example, if the configured uplink grant resource is associated with the second RS, the terminal device 110 may determine that the configuration grant resource as valid. The terminal device 110 may perform a first PUSCH transmission based on the valid configured grant resource. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may indicate a TCI state associated with the second RS (i.e., the selected RS) to a lower layer (e.g., physical layer) , and activate the TCI state associated with the second RS (i.e., the selected RS) .

[0095] In some embodiments, if no RSs in the configured set of RSs are associated with activated TCI states, the terminal device 110 may determine the second RS by selecting a RS with a highest measurement result (e.g., RSRP, RSRQ, or SINR) in the configured set of RSs. Alternatively, the terminal device 110 may select the second RS from the configured set of RSs randomly.

[0096] In some embodiments, if no RSs in the first set of RSs are associated with activated TCI states, the terminal device 110 may determine the second RS by selecting a RS with a highest measurement result (e.g., RSRP, RSRQ, or SINR) in the first set of RSs. Alternatively, the terminal device 110 may select the second RS from the first set of RSs randomly.

[0097] With the process 200, a RS selection for conditional LTM may be carried out and L3 event based conditional LTM may be achieved. It is to be understood that operations  or steps described in connection with FIG. 2 may be performed separately or in any suitable combinations.

[0098] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF EARLY SYNCHRONIZATION

[0099] Due to decoupling of L1 measurement with LTM, early synchronization and LTM cell switch execution based on L3 measurement needs to be studied.

[0100] Thus, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of early synchronization so as to overcome the above and other potential issues. The solution will be described below in connection with FIG. 3.

[0101] FIG. 3 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating another example process 300 of communication according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 300 may involve the terminal device 110 and the CU 121 and the DU 123 of the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. In this example, the network device 120 provides a serving cell (e.g., the cell 123-1) for the terminal device 110 and also provides one or more candidate cells for the terminal device 110. The serving cell may be SpCell, PCell or PSCell of the terminal device 110.

[0102] As shown in FIG. 3, at step 310, the CU 121 may receive, from the terminal device 110, a measurement report associated with a set of LTM candidate cells. In some embodiments, the measurement report may comprise one or more L3 measurement results of one or more LTM candidate cells in the set of LTM candidate cells.

[0103] At step 320, the CU 121 may transmit, to the DU 123, assistance information for a LTM candidate cell in the set of LTM candidate cells. In some embodiments, the assistance information may comprise information of an uplink carrier for the LTM candidate cell. The information of the uplink carrier may be an indicator indicating a normal uplink (NUL) or supplementary uplink (SUL) .

[0104] In some embodiments, the assistance information may comprise an indication indicating that the assistance information is for an early uplink synchronization or an early downlink synchronization or a LTM cell switch.

[0105] In some embodiments, the assistance information may comprise a list (for convenience, also referred to as a first list herein) of RS indexes for a TCI state activation.

[0106] In some embodiments, the assistance information may comprise a list (for  convenience, also referred to as a second list herein) of RS indexes for a TCI state deactivation.

[0107] In some embodiments, the assistance information may comprise one or more RS indexes for the early uplink synchronization.

[0108] It is to be noted that the assistance information may comprise any combinations of the above information.

[0109] As shown in step 330, upon reception of the assistance information, the DU 123 may, if supported, take the assistance information into account for triggering LTM cell switch execution or early downlink / uplink synchronization.

[0110] With the process 300, L3 measurement based early synchronization and LTM cell switch execution may be carried out. It is to be understood that operations or steps described in connection with FIG. 3 may be performed separately or in any suitable combinations.

[0111] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF L2 HANDLING FOR LTM

[0112] For LTM cell switch execution, it is unclear how to handle the case that a L2 reset procedure is not performed and one RLC bearer associated with one acknowledged mode (AM) DRB is released during a LTM cell switch procedure.

[0113] Thus, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of L2 handling for LTM so as to overcome the above and other potential issues. The solution will be described in connection with FIG. 4 below.

[0114] FIG. 4 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating another example process 400 of communication according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 400 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 400 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. In this example, the network device 120 provides a serving cell for the terminal device 110 and also provides one or more candidate cells for the terminal device 110. The serving cell may be SpCell, PCell or PSCell of the terminal device 110.

[0115] As shown in FIG. 4, at step 410, the network device 120 may transmit a LTM configuration to the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the LTM configuration may comprise a set of LTM candidate configurations for a set of LTM candidate cells. Each LTM candidate configuration in the set of LTM candidate configurations may be  associated with one LTM candidate cell.

[0116] In some embodiments, the LTM configuration may comprise a configuration of one or more conditions. In some embodiments, the one or more conditions may be associated with one LTM candidate configuration.

[0117] At step 420, the terminal device 110 may determine that a LTM cell switch procedure is initiated. In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that a LTM cell switch command MAC CE is received from the network device 120, the terminal device 110 may determine that a LTM cell switch procedure is initiated. In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the one or more conditions associated with one LTM candidate configuration are fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may determine that a LTM cell switch procedure is initiated.

[0118] At step 430, if a RLC bearer associated with one DRB is released, the terminal device 110 may trigger a PDCP entity of the DRB to perform PDCP data recovery. In some embodiments, the DRB may be an AM DRB. In other words, if the terminal device 110 determines that the RLC bearer associated with one DRB is released in the applied LTM candidate configuration associated with the LTM cell switch procedure, and the DRB is an AM DRB, the terminal device 110 may trigger the PDCP entity of the DRB to perform PDCP date recovery.

[0119] In some embodiments, if a set of conditions is fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the RLC bearer associated with the DRB is released. In other words, the terminal device 110 may perform the step 430 if the set of conditions is fulfilled.

[0120] In some embodiments, the set of conditions may comprise that a security key for the LTM cell switch procedure is not updated.

[0121] In some embodiments, the set of conditions may comprise that a value of a first identity associated with a serving cell is the same as a value of a second identity associated with a LTM candidate configuration for the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the first identity and the second identity are used for determining whether update of the security key is to be performed during the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, if the value of the first identity is different from the value of the second identity, the update of the security key is to be performed by the terminal device 110.

[0122] In some embodiments, the set of conditions may comprise that a value of a third identity associated with the serving cell is the same as a value of a fourth identity associated  with the LTM candidate configuration for the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the third identity and the fourth identity are used for determining whether L2 reset is to be performed for the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, if the value of the third identity is different from the value of the fourth identity, the L2 reset is to be performed by the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the L2 reset may include triggering the PDCP entity to perform PDCP recovery for all the DRBs, and re-establishing the corresponding RLC entity for all RLC bearers of all the DRBs.

[0123] It is to be understood that the set of conditions may comprise any combinations of the above conditions.

[0124] With the process 400, L2 handling for LTM may be enhanced. It is to be understood that operations or steps described in connection with FIG. 4 may be performed separately or in any suitable combinations.

[0125] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF SON / MDT FOR LTM

[0126] Embodiments of the present disclosure also provide solutions of SON / MDT for LTM. The solutions will be described in connection with FIGs. 5 and 6 below.

[0127] FIG. 5 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating another example process 500 of communication according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 500 may involve the CU 121 and the DU 123 of the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. In this example, the network device 120 provides a serving cell (e.g., the cell 123-1) for the terminal device 110 and also provides one or more candidate cells for the terminal device 110. The serving cell may be SpCell, PCell or PSCell of the terminal device 110.

[0128] As shown in FIG. 5, at step 510, the CU 121 may determine that a LTM cell switch procedure for the terminal device 120 is initiated.

[0129] At step 520, if the LTM cell switch procedure is successfully completed, the CU 121 may transmit, to the DU 123, a message comprising a SHR associated with the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the message may further comprise a C-RNTI of the terminal device 120 allocated by the DU 123 (i.e., source DU) . In some embodiments, the message may be an access and mobility indication message or any other suitable F1AP messages.

[0130] With the process 500, SON / MDT for LTM may be enhanced at NW. It is to be  understood that operations or steps described in connection with FIG. 5 may be performed separately or in any suitable combinations.

[0131] FIG. 6 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating another example process 600 of communication according to embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 600 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 600 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. In this example, the network device 120 provides a serving cell for the terminal device 110 and also provides one or more candidate cells for the terminal device 110. The serving cell may be SpCell, PCell or PSCell of the terminal device 110.

[0132] As shown in FIG. 6, at step 610, the terminal device 110 may determine that a LTM cell switch procedure is initiated. In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that a LTM cell switch command MAC CE is received from the network device 120, the terminal device 110 may determine that a LTM cell switch procedure is initiated. In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that one or more conditions associated with one LTM candidate configuration are fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may determine that a LTM cell switch procedure is initiated.

[0133] At step 620, the terminal device 110 may transmit, to the network device 120, a SHR or a RLF report for the LTM cell switch procedure. In some embodiments, the SHR or the RLF report may comprise a source C-RNTI of the terminal device 110 of the LTM cell switch procedure.

[0134] In some embodiments where the LTM cell switch procedure is failed, the terminal device 110 may include the source C-RNTI of the terminal device 110 in the RLF report. In some embodiments where the LTM cell switch procedure is successfully completed, the terminal device 110 may include the source C-RNTI of the terminal device 110 in the SHR.

[0135] With the process 600, SON / MDT for LTM may be enhanced at a terminal device. It is to be understood that operations or steps described in connection with FIG. 6 may be performed separately or in any suitable combinations.

[0136] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF METHODS

[0137] Accordingly, embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods of communication implemented at a terminal device and at a CU of a network device. These methods will be described below with reference to FIGs. 7 to 11.

[0138] FIG. 7 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 700 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 700 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 700 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 700 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0139] At block 710, the terminal device 110 may determine, from a first set of RSs fulfilling one or more conditions associated with a LTM candidate configuration, a first RS associated with an activated TCI state.

[0140] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may evaluate the one or more conditions for a second set of RSs associated with activated TCI states of LTM candidate cells, and determine the first set of RSs fulling the one or more conditions from the second set of RSs.

[0141] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform a measurement for the second set of RSs, and evaluate the one or more conditions for the second set of RSs based on the measurement.

[0142] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine the first RS by selecting, as the first RS, a RS with a highest measurement result in the first set of RSs.

[0143] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine the first RS by at least one of the following: in accordance with a determination that a RS in the first set of RSs is associated with the activated TCI state, determining the RS as the first RS; or in accordance with a determination that multiple RSs in the first set of RSs are associated with activated TCI states, selecting one of the multiple RSs as the first RS.

[0144] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that no RSs in the first set of RSs are associated with activated TCI states, the terminal device 110 may select one of the first set of RSs as a second RS, and determine, based on the second RS, the valid configured uplink grant resource for the LTM cell switch procedure.
