[0001] The present disclosure relates to wireless communications, and more specifically to multiple transmission reception point (TRP) transmission.BACKGROUND

[0002] A wireless communications system may include one or multiple network communication devices, such as base stations (BSs) , which may be otherwise known as an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. Each network communication devices, such as a base station may support wireless communications for one or multiple user communication devices, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) , or other suitable terminology. The wireless communications system may support wireless communications with one or multiple user communication devices by utilizing resources of the wireless communication system (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) . Additionally, the wireless communications system may support wireless communications across various radio access technologies including third generation (3G) radio access technology, fourth generation (4G) radio access technology, fifth generation (5G) radio access technology, among other suitable radio access technologies beyond 5G (e.g., sixth generation (6G) ) .

[0003] In 5G NR, coverage and energy saving are important topics, where many features are introduced after the initial release and deployment. However, there are some restrictions for later design so that the compatibility of later introduced features are not well designed. In 6G system, both coverage and energy saving are considered with high priority in the first release. For 6GR, multiple-TRP is one kind of typical deploy scenarios. There are still some issues associated with the multiple TRP transmission to be addressed.SUMMARY

[0061] As used herein, the term “network device” generally refers to a node in a communication network via which a user equipment can access the communication network and receive services therefrom. The network device may refer to a base station (BS) or an access point (AP) , for example, a node B (NodeB or NB) , a radio access network (RAN) node, an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , a NR NB (also referred to as a gNB) , a Remote Radio Unit (RRU) , a radio header (RH) , an infrastructure device for a V2X (vehicle-to-everything) communication, a transmission and reception point (TRP) , a reception point (RP) , a remote radio head (RRH) , a relay, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, a low power node such as a femto a base station (BS) , a pico BS, and so forth, depending on the applied terminology and technology. The network device may further refer to a network function (NF) in the core network, for example, a SMF, an AMF, a PCF, a UPF or devices with same function in future network architectures, and so forth.

[0062] As used herein, the term “UE” generally refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communications. By way of example rather than a limitation, a user equipment may also be referred to as a communication device, a terminal device, an end user device, a subscriber station (SS) , an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) , a portable subscriber station, a mobile station (MS) , or an access terminal (AT) . The user equipment may include, but is not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, a voice over IP (VoIP) phone, a wireless local loop phone, a tablet, a wearable user equipment, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , a portable computer, a desktop computer, an image capture user equipment such as a digital camera, a gaming user equipment, a music storage and playback appliance, a vehicle-mounted wireless user equipment, a wireless endpoint, a mobile station, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , a USB dongle, a smart device, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of Things (loT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device (for example, a remote surgery device) , an industrial device (for example, a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms: “user equipment, ” “communication device, ” “terminal, ” “user equipment” and “UE, ” may be used interchangeably.

[0063] With the development of communication, the 6GR synchronization signal (SS) may be designed with scalability to operate on the supported deployments and spectrum, including multi-beam operation. For 6GR, multiple-TRP is one kind of typical deployment scenario. Thus, the 6GR SS should be designed to operate effectively in multiple-TRP scenario.

[0064] It has been agreed that high-level aspects which impact on the 6GR synchronization signal structure include, but not limited to: deduced number of synchronization raster, support of low-tier 6G device, support of minimum spectrum allocation, detection performance, ensuring of orthogonalization against the NR primary synchronization signal (PSS)  / SSS design, extended coverage, low complexity / power SS, decoupling for different radio resource control (RRC) states, multi-stage SS structure in 6GR initial access (e.g., always-on + on-demand) , scalability to operate on the supported deployments and spectrum, including multi-beam operation, and compatibility with any duplex modes.

[0065] Cluster-based cell-common signalling is considered to be used for energy saving. Based on the cluster-based frame structure, the transmission schemes for system information block 1 (SIB1) , system information block (SIB) , and paging in multiple TRPs scenario may be designed.

[0066] It has been agreed to study and evaluate NW energy savings and the impact on UE performance and user experience with respect to 20ms and longer periodicities of synchronization signal (s) at least for initial access with the following consideration, but not limited to: the BS assumptions with cell-common signaling (e.g., synchronization signal (s) , broadcast PDCCH, SIB-1, SIB, paging, physical random access channel, PRACH) and UE-specific signaling (for low, light, medium loads) ; and UE impact.

[0067] The cell-common signaling may comprise clustered provisioning of different cell-common signaling and on-demand provisioning of different cell-common signaling. UE-specific signaling may comprise clustered provisioning with cell-common signaling, and un-clustered provisioning with cell-common signaling.

[0068] The UE impact may comprises cell search complexity and latency, including frequency search latency, UE power consumption, synchronization signal detection, coverage and tracking performance, radio resource management (RRM) , mobility, beam management, other properties are not precluded, improvements to address identified impact, e.g., additional synchronization signal needs, adaptation of synchronization signal transmission periodicity, sparser synch raster.

[0069] It has been agreed to study and evaluate on-demand and / or periodic SIB-1 transmission with respect to NW energy savings potential and UE power consumption impact, SIB-1 acquisition delay, NW and UE complexity, coverage, applicable deployment scenarios, e.g., standalone cell / carrier and multiple TRPs / cells / carriers.

[0070] From a deployment view, both single TRP and multiple TRPs are important scenarios. Thus, initial access can be designed for both single TRP and multiple TRP scenarios, where the additional TRP may be used to improve coverage, transmission efficiency, and latency.

[0071] In view of the above discussions, some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for the multiple TRP transmission. In one aspect of the solution of the present disclosure, a UE determines resources associated with one or more TRPs among multiple TRPs for at least one of common PDCCH or common PDSCH based on a resource configuration of the multiple TRPs and indication information associated with the one or more TRPs for a transmission. Then the UE performs decoding of the at least one of the common PDCCH or common PDSCH based on the resources associated with the one or more TRPs. The common PDCCH or PDSCH refers to PDCCH or PDSCH, which carries the cell-common signaling explained above.

[0072] In this way, the resources associated with multiple TRPs may be determined, and the coverage and spectrum efficiency are improved. Therefore, the reliability of the communications is improved. Principles and implementations of embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 1-10.

[0082] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160.

[0083] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0084] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0085] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0086] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0087] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0088] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0089] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0090] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0091] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0092] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0093] FIG. 2 illustrates an example signaling chart illustrating an example process that supports the multiple TRP transmission in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 200 may involve the UE 201 and the base station 202. It would be appreciated that although the process 200 is applied in the communication environment 100 of FIG. 1, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios with similar issues.

[0094] In process 200, the base station 202 determines 210 resources associated with multiple TRPs for at least one of the common PDCCH or common PDSCH.

[0095] In a 5G system, during initial access, only a single TRP or transparent single frequency network (SFN) is used, as shown in FIG. 3A. For later PDCCH / PDSCH transmission, the candidate transmission schemes with multiple TRP may include dynamic TRP selection, SFN transmission, FDM, and TDM based repetition. Further, the FDM and TDM based repetition may include non-coherent joint transmission (NCJT) and coherent joint transmission (CJT) .

[0096] In the example embodiments of process 200, the multiple transmission schemes are used for initial access and later PDCCH / PDSCH transmission, where transmission schemes based on single and multiple TRPs are supported. The candidate transmission schemes as shown in FIG. 3B are introduced. The TRP selection based transmission, TDM based repetition, FDM based repetition, and SDM based repetition may be used for the transmission schemes with multiple TRPs.

[0097] Regarding the TRP selection based transmission, one TRP is used for one transmission, and the TRP may be flexibly selected for transmission. The UE 201 is required to know the resource associated with the selected TRP for receiving the PDCCH / PDSCH.

[0098] Regarding the TDM / FDM based repetition, the same coded bits are transmitted by multiple TRPs on multiple FDM or TDM based resources.

[0099] Regarding the SDM based repetition, it may be a non-transparent SFN transmission scheme, where the same coded bits are transmitted by multiple TRPs on the same time-frequency resources. Alternatively, it may be the NCJT scheme, where half of the coded bits are transmitted by the CCE from one TRP and half of the coded bits are transmitted by the CCE from another TRP, where the CCE from multiple TRPs are on the same time-frequency resources.

[0100] In a 5G system, TDM-ed SSBs are transmitted with multiple beams. Based on SSB measurement, the UE may find the suitable beam based on L1-RSRP measurement. For multiple-TRP scenario, different SSBs may be transmitted from different TRPs. To obtain beam information for additional TRP, a new SSB may be transmitted from additional TRP, where the SSB from one TRP can consist of one SSB subset. For the selected beam for each TRP, it is associated with the SSB from each TRP and implicitly determined by the SSB measurement.

[0101] In some embodiments, the base station 202 may further transmit, to the UE 201, multiple SSB subsets associated with the multiple TRPs based on one of FDM, TDM, or SDM.

[0102] Correspondingly, the UE 201 may receive multiple SSB subsets from the multiple TRPs. Then the UE 201 determines a beam or resources associated with a TRP among the multiple TRPs for the at least one of the common PDCCH or common PDSCH.

[0103] In other words, based on measurements on multiple SSB subsets, the UE 201 may determine the suitable beam for each TRP, which can be used for later common PDCCH / PDSCH transmission.

[0104] Four kinds of schemes may be used for SSB transmission from multiple TRPs, where time-frequency location for SSBs associated with different subsets may be predefined, and only one scheme may be used for transmission.

[0105] In the first scheme, the UE 201 may receive the multiple SSB subsets based on TDM, and the multiple SSB subsets may be consecutive in the slot level or frame level. In an example, as shown in scheme 4-1 of FIG. 4, the TDM-ed scheme is used for SSB subsets associated with multiple TRPs. For one SSB subset, it can be transmitted based on specification, such as the SSB pattern defined in the 5G system. The TDM-ed SSB from TRP1 and the TDM-ed SSB from TRP2 may be consecutive in the slot level or frame level.

[0106] In the second scheme, the UE 201 may receive the multiple SSB subsets based on FDM, and the multiple SSB subsets may be consecutive in the RB level. In an example, as shown in scheme 4-2 of FIG. 4, the FDM-ed scheme is used for SSB subsets associated with multiple TRPs. For one SSB subset, it can be transmitted based on specification, such as the SSB pattern defined in the 5G system. The FDM-ed SSB from TRP1 and the FDM-ed SSB from TRP2 may be consecutive in the physical resource block (PRB) level.

[0107] In the third scheme, the UE 201 may receive the multiple SSB subsets based on TDM, and the multiple SSB subsets may be determined by equally splitting one predefined SSB set.

[0108] In an example, as shown in scheme 4-3 of FIG. 4, the TDM-ed scheme is used for SSB subsets associated with multiple TRPs. For two SSB subsets, it can be transmitted based on one SSB pattern, such as the SSB pattern defined in the 5G system. For the first SSB subset associated with the first TRP, e.g., TDM-ed SSB from TRP1, they can be transmitted on SSB within the first half index (i.e., [0 M / 2-1] with M as the maximum SSB number for each frequency band) . For the second SSB subset associated with the second TRP, e.g., TDM-ed SSB from TRP2, they can be transmitted on SSB within the second half index, i.e., [M / 2, M-1] with M as the maximum SSB number for each frequency band.

[0109] In the fourth scheme, the UE 201 may receive the multiple SSB subsets based on the SDM. In an example, as shown in scheme 4-4 of FIG. 4, the SDM-ed scheme is used for SSB subsets associated with multiple TRPs. For one SSB subset, e.g., SDM-ed SSB from TRP1, it can be transmitted based on specification, such as the SSB pattern defined in the 5G system. For another SSB subset, e.g., SDM-ed SSB from TRP1, it is transmitted the same time-frequency resource as that used for the first SSB subset. UE determines the SSB from two subsets based on PBCH detection.

[0110] Alternatively or additionally, if the UE 201 receives the multiple SSB subsets based on the TDM, the UE 201 may determine that the transmission from multiple TRPs is based on TDM. If the UE 201 receives the multiple SSB subsets based on the FDM, the UE 201 may determine that the transmission from multiple TRPs is based on FDM.

[0111] In other words, when TDM or FDM based schemes are used, common PDCCH / PDSCH may be transmitted with TDM based or FDM based repetition in case of multiple TRP transmission. In this way, it can reduce signalling indication of TDM / FDM based repetition transmission scheme for the common PDCCH / PDSCH.

[0112] It is to be understood that the transmission scheme is further determined based on the detected PBCH, but not just receiving SSB. In other words, the transmission scheme is based on detected PBCH from one or multiple TRPs, where PBCH includes subset indexes. If the UE 201 detects one PBCH, it assumes the later common channel will transmit on the resource from this TRP. If the UE 201 detects two PBCH with different SSB subsets, it assumes the latter commonly transmitted on the resources from two TRPs.

[0113] Alternatively or additionally, the UE 201 may receive the multiple SSB subsets based on transmission information for the multiple SSB subsets. The transmission information indicates that the multiple SSB subsets are transmitted based on one of TDM, FDM, or SDM.

[0114] Additionally, the transmission information may be predefined or received from the base station 202.

[0115] On the other side of the communication, the base station 202 may transmit the transmission information to the UE 201.

[0116] In addition, a number of the multiple TRPs for the at least one of the common PDCCH or common PDSCH may be equal to the number of received SSB subsets carrying different indexes.

[0117] In some embodiments, indexes of the multiple SSB subsets may be carried by PBCH payload, SSS indexes, or PBCH DMRS sequence indexes.

[0118] For some scenarios with poor coverage, the UE 201 may detect PBCH from one SSB subset. To determine the time-frequency resource for SSB associated with another SSB subset, the UE 201 may determine which subset is located by the detected SSB. The information for the subset index can be carried by the SSS index or DMRS sequence index for PBCH or PBCH payload. With this information, the UE 201 may know the time-frequency resource for another SSB subset and then select the suitable beam for another TRP based on L1-RSRP measurement from another SSB subset.

[0119] Continue to refer to FIG. 2, the UE 201 determines 215 resources associated with one or more TRPs among multiple TRPs for at least one of the common PDCCH or common PDSCH based on a resource configuration of the multiple TRPs and indication information associated with the one or more TRPs for a transmission.

[0120] In some embodiments, the base station 202 may transmit, to the UE 201, a resource configuration of the multiple TRPs and indication information associated with the one or more TRPs for the transmission.

[0121] The indication information on single / multiple TRP transmission may be provided to the UE 201 for receiving and effectively combining. It is to be understood that the indication information may be indicated to the UE 201 explicitly, or it may also be indicated implicitly. In principle, the explicit scheme may be used for indicating which TRP(s) for transmission.

[0122] For explicit schemes, one or multiple bits may be used. In some embodiments, the indication information may comprise an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or the transmission with more than one TRP.

[0123] As shown in Table 1, one bit indication is used to indicate single / multiple TRP transmission. Table 1 One One-bit indication for single / multiple TRP transmission

[0124] In some alternative embodiments, the indication information may comprise an indication indicating one of the following: the transmission with a single TRP, the transmission with a first TRP, the transmission with a second TRP, or the transmission with both the first TRP and the second TRP.

[0125] As shown in Table 2, two bits indication is used for indicating single / multiple TRP transmission. Table 2 Two bits indication for single / multiple TRP transmission

[0126] Moreover, additional information bits may be used to further indicate the actual transmission schemes for common PDCCH / PDSCH to provide more transmission flexibility. In some embodiments, the indication information may further comprise an indication that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on TDM or FDM, or an indication that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on TDM or FDM, or SDM.

[0127] As shown in Table 3, one bit indication is used to indicate transmission schemes from multiple TRPs. Table 3 One One-bit indication for transmission schemes from multiple TRPs

[0128] As shown in Table 4, two bits indication is used to indicate transmission schemes from multiple TRPs. Table 4 Two Two-bit indication for transmission schemes from multiple TRPs

[0129] As another implementation scheme, Table 2 and Table 3 or Table 2 and Table 4 may be merged into one table for indication based on the supported transmission schemes down-selected by the final 6G specification.

[0130] In addition, the indication information may be carried by PBCH payload, an SSS sequence index, or a PBCH DMRS sequence index.

[0131] In the first example, 1 or 2 bits of indication information may be carried by the PBCH payload. In the second example, 1 or 2 bits of indication information may be carried by the SSS sequence index with 2 / 4 kinds of hypotheses, where each state is associated with one kind of PBCH DMRS sequence index.

[0132] In the third example, 1 or 2 bits of indication information may be carried by the PBCH DMRS sequence index with 2 / 4 kinds of hypotheses, where each state is associated with one kind of PBCH DMRS sequence index.

[0133] For implicit schemes, the TRP number and transmission schemes for multiple TRPs may be implicitly determined by the resource configuration, e.g., the configuration of CORESET 0 and search space set 0.

[0134] To support PDCCH / PDSCH transmission from multiple TRPs, the resources associated with TRPs to be specified. For the 5G system, one CORESET and one search space set are configured in the MIB for initial access. For the 6G system, a more flexible configuration may be used for supporting multiple TRP transmission for SIB1 and / or other common channels. Three kinds of configuration schemes may be used for CORESET 0 and search space set 0.

[0135] In some embodiments, the resource configuration for the common PDCCH may indicate a joint CORESET and a joint search space set for the multiple TRPs, a CORESET and a search space set for a first TRP among the multiple TRPs, or at least one of multiple CORESETs or multiple search space sets for the multiple TRPs.

[0136] In the first example, one joint CORESET 0 and joint search space set 0 are configured. As one example, the legacy Table 13-1, …, Table 13-10 in TS 38.213 defined for CORESET 0 may be reused for joint CORESET 0. The legacy Table 13-11, …, Table 13-15 in TS 38.213 defined for search space set 0 can be reused for joint search space set 0.

[0137] The resource configuration may be used together with the signalling for transmission schemes, i.e., the indication information, for determining transmission resource (s) for the UE detecting common PDCCH.

[0138] For single TRP based transmission or SDM based transmission, the time-frequency resource for the joint CORESET may be used for common PDCCH transmission, and all the monitoring occasions from the joint search space set 0 may be used for detecting common PDCCH.

[0139] If the resource configuration indicates the joint CORESET and the joint search space set for the multiple TRPs, in order to determine the resources associated with the multiple TRPs, the base station 202 may split the total RBs of the joint CORESET equally into consecutive multiple parts, and the indication information may comprise an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the FDM.

[0140] In other words, for FDM-based repetition scheme or the TRP selection-based transmission, the total RB number from the joint CORESET 0 may be split for each TRP. Thus, the first half of RBs may be occupied by the first CORESET associated with the first TRP, and the second half of RBs may be occupied by the second CORESET associated with the second TRP. For example, for CORESET with 48 RBs, 24 RBs can be used for the first / second CORESET. For CORESET with 96 RBs, 48 RBs may be used for the first / second CORESET.

[0141] As shown in FIG. 5, TRP1 transmits four distinct beams 11, 12, 13, and 14, each respectively associated with SSB1, 1, SSB1, 2, SSB1, 3, and SSB1, 4. Similarly, TRP2 transmits beam 21, 22, 23, and 24, respectively associated with SSB2, 1, SSB2, 2, SSB2, 3, and SSB2, 4. The TRP1 and TRP2 CORESETs are frequency-division multiplexed within the same slot to enable two FDM-based repetitions. The UE 201 may monitor the PDCCH from two CORESETs on occasions associated with a selected beam based on SSB detection. A soft combination can be made for PDCCH repetition on two monitoring occasions associated with beam 12 and beam 23.

[0142] In addition, the base station 202 may split monitoring occasions from the joint search space set into multiple subsets, and the indication information may comprise an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the TDM.

[0143] In other words, for TDM-based repetition scheme or TRP selection-based transmission, the monitoring occasions from the search space set 0 may be split for the transmission occasion of each TRP, which can be equally split. For example, the first half of monitoring occasions corresponding to all beams in a round are occupied by the first monitoring occasions subset, and the second half of monitoring occasions corresponding to all beams in a round are occupied by the second monitoring occasions subset.

[0144] As shown in FIG. 6, a total of 8 SSB beams are transmitted from 2TRPs, and M / O is configured as ‘1’ and ‘0’ , respectively. The slots 0 / 1 / 2 / 3 are used for monitoring the common PDCCH from the first TRP, and slots 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 are used for monitoring the common PDCCH from the second TRP. It is to be noted that if 8 SSBs per TRP is supported, the maximum 16 beams are to be supported, where more slots (e.g. 16 slots in case of M=1) and even frames (e.g., 2 / 3 frames) may be used for SIB1 detection.

[0145] On the other side of the communication, if the resource configuration indicate the joint CORESET and the joint search space set for the multiple TRPs, in order to determine the resources associated with the one or more TRPs for the common PDCCH, the UE 201 may determine resources associated with the multiple TRPs by splitting total RBs of the joint CORESET equally into consecutive multiple parts based on determining that the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the FDM.

[0146] In addition, the UE 201 may determine resources associated with the multiple TRPs by splitting monitoring occasions from the joint search space set into multiple subsets based on determining that the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the TDM.

[0147] In the second example, the CORESET 0 and search space set 0 associated with one TRP is indicated by MIB. The CORESET 0A and search space set 0A associated with another TRP can be determined by the predefined offset value.

[0148] For single TRP based transmission or SDM based transmission, the time-frequency resource determined by the indicated CORESET 0 (e.g., by MIB) may be used for common PDCCH transmission, and the monitoring occasions determined by the indicated search set 0 (e.g., by MIB) can be used for common PDCCH detection.

[0149] In some embodiments, if the resource configuration indicates the CORESET and the search space set for the first TRP, in order to determine the resources associated with the multiple TRPs, the base station 202 may determine the frequency resource of a second TRP among the multiple TRPs by determining an offset relative to an end RB of the CORESET for the first TRP, and the indication information may comprise an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the FDM. Additionally, the offset relative to the end RB of the CORESET may be predefined or carried by a MIB.

[0150] In other words, for FDM-based repetition scheme or the TRP selection-based transmission, the frequency resource for the first TRP may be determined by the indicated CORESET 0. The frequency resource for the second TRP may be determined by the additional specified RB offset between two CORESETs. The additional specified offset value may be defined relative to the end RB of the first CORESET.

[0151] In an example, the offset may be “1” , where the consecutive two RB sets can be used for two CORESETs. In another example, the offset may be {1+offset RBs} with offset RBs indicated by MIB for the first CORESET.

[0152] In addition, the base station 202 may determine the time resource of a second TRP among the multiple TRPs by determining an offset relative to an end slot or an end frame of the search space set of the first TRP, and the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the TDM. Additionally, the offset relative to the end slot or the end frame of the search space set may be predefined or carried by a MIB.

[0153] In other words, for the TDM-based repetition scheme or TRP selection-based transmission, the monitoring occasions for the first TRP may be determined by the indicated search space set 0. The monitoring occasions for the second TRP can be determined by the specified offset value on the slot level or frame level. For the specified offset value, it can be “1” slot, where the consecutive slot can be used for two search space sets associated with two TRPs.

[0154] In an example, 0 / 2 / 3 / 4 monitoring slots are used for the first TRP, and 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 monitoring slots are used for the second TRP. In another example, the offset may be “1” frame, and the same slot index, but consecutive frame indices are used as monitoring slots for two TRPs. In another example, frames 0, 16, 32, …, are used for monitoring SIB1 for the first search space set. Then frames 1, 17, 33, …, are used for monitoring SIB1 for the second search space set.

[0155] On the other side of the communication, if the resource configuration indicates the CORESET and the search space set for the first TRP, based on determining that the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the FDM, the UE 201 may determine the frequency resource of a second TRP among the multiple TRPs based on an offset relative to an end RB of the CORESET for the first TRP.

[0156] In addition, based on determining that the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the TDM, the UE 201 may determine the time resource of a second TRP among the multiple TRPs based on an offset relative to an end slot or an end frame of the search space set of the first TRP.

[0157] In the third example, at least one of multiple CORESETs or multiple search space sets for the multiple TRPs may be indicated.

[0158] In some embodiments, the at least one of the multiple CORESETs or the multiple search space sets may comprise one CORESET and one search space set for the transmission with the single TRP, two same CORESETs and two same search space sets for the transmission with the single TRP and the transmission based on the SDM, two CORESETs and one common search space set for the transmission with the single TRP and the transmission based on the FDM, two different CORESETs and two same search space sets for the transmission with the single TRP and the transmission based on the FDM, one CORESET and two search space sets for the transmission with the single TRP and the transmission based on the TDM, or two same CORESETs and two different search space sets for the transmission with the single TRP and the transmission based on the TDM.

[0159] In addition, the indication information may be implicitly indicated by the resource configuration. For instance, two CORESETs and two search space sets are indicated by the MIB. Based on the MIB indication, the transmission schemes may be implicitly determined, where the indication information may be associated with the number of CORESET and the search space set.

[0160] Table 5 illustrates the association between the transmission scheme and the resource configuration. Table 5 Association relation between the transmission scheme and the resource configuration

[0161] For a single TRP based transmission, one CORESET and one search space set are indicated by MIB.

[0162] Alternatively or additionally, if the resource configuration indicates the at least one of the multiple CORESETs or the multiple search space sets, and the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the FDM, in order to determine the resources associated with multiple TRPs, the base station 202 may determine a second CORESET of a second TRP among the multiple TRPs by determining an offset of a first CORESET for the first TRP and a number of RBs of the first CORESET.

[0163] In other words, for the FDM-based repetition scheme or TRP selection-based transmission, two or more CORESETs may be indicated, with one CORESET for one TRP, where specific offset value can be used for the second CORESET. For example, the offset value may be determined by the sum of the offset value derived by the offset RB value for the second CORESET, plus the number of RBs for the first CORESET. In addition, the common search space set 0 may be indicated for two TRPs. In this way, it can provide the best flexibility for frequency domain resource allocation, but increasing payload size (additional 4 bits are used for another CORESET 0A) .

[0164] If some restriction is made for the multiplexing pattern, the number of RBs, the number of symbols, the RB offset, and the additional bits may be further reduced. For example, when all the mentioned items are assumed to be the same as two CORESETs, the 4 bits for indicating the resources of CORESET 0A may be saved, and 1 bit is still used to indicate the RB offset values between two CORESETs, e.g., 0 or the number of RBs indicated for CORESET 0. Thus, a total of 5 bits may be used for indicating resources of two CORESETs.

[0165] In addition, if the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with the multiple TRPs is based on the TDM, offsets of search space sets, durations of monitoring windows, and first symbol indexes of the multiple TRPs may be different.

[0166] For instance, for the TDM-based repetition scheme or TRP selection-based transmission, the common CORESET 0 is indicated for two TRPs. Two search space sets (i.e., search space set 0 / 0A) may be used to determine monitoring occasions for two TRPs, respectively. For example, legacy CORESET 0 defined by legacy Table 13-1, …, Table 13-10 in TS 38.213 may be used as a common CORESET for two TRPs. Search space set 0 and 0A, defined by legacy Table 13-11, …, Table 13-15 in TS 38.213 may be used as search space sets for two TRPs.

[0167] To avoid collision between monitoring occasions from two TRPs, different values of offsets of search space sets (O) , durations of monitoring windows (M) , first symbol index may be configured.

[0168] Alternatively, if the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with the multiple TRPs is based on the TDM, offsets of search space sets, durations of monitoring windows, and first symbol indexes of the multiple TRPs are the same, and frame indexes of the multiple TRPs may be different.

[0169] For instance, the same difference of O, M, and first symbol index are assumed for different search space sets, but the frame index associated with TRP may be different. In an example, the frame index 0 / 1 may be used for the first TRP, but frame index 2 / 3 may be used for the second TRP.

[0170] Correspondingly, if the indication information comprises an indication indicating the transmission with a single TRP or an indication indicating that the transmission with multiple TRPs is based on the FDM, the UE 201 may determine a second CORESET of a second TRP among the multiple TRPs based on an offset of a first CORESET for the first TRP and a number of RBs of the first CORESET.

[0171] For common PDSCH transmission in case of multiple TRPs, TRP selection-based transmission, TDM based repetition transmission, and FDM based repetition transmission may be used to guarantee PDSCH coverage and improve transmission efficiency.

[0172] In some embodiments, an indication comprised in the indication information for the common PDSCH may be the same as an indication comprised in the indication information for the common PDCCH.

[0173] In other words, on account of similar requirements on coverage, spectrum efficiency, and latency, the same transmission scheme may be used for common PDCCH and PDSCH.

[0174] The common PDSCH for common SIB, paging may be scheduled by common PDCCH, where the same DCI bits are carried on account of repetition transmission. In principle, the time-frequency resource can be determined by frequency domain resource assignment and time domain resource assignment, where the time domain resource is determined based on detected PDCCH and DCI values for time domain resource assignment. For TRP selection-based transmission, the indicated transmission resource is used by the selected TRP.

[0175] For TDM based repetition transmission, the indicated transmission resource for two TRPs is still TDM-ed since the detected PDCCH is TDM-ed. However, for FDM based repetition transmission, there is an overlap for the indicated transmission resource for two TRPs when the detected PDCCHs are FDM-ed (i.e., in the same slot) . To solve this issue, three schemes may be used.

[0176] In the first scheme, if a transmission for the common PDSCH is based on FDM, the base station 202 may determine the resources associated with the multiple TRPs by splitting the schedule RBs equally into consecutive multiple parts for the multiple TRP.

[0177] For example, the schedule RBs may be split into two equal parts, where the first half of the indicated RBs are used for PDSCH transmitted from the first TRP and the second half of the indicated RBs are used for PDSCH transmitted from the second TRP.

[0178] In the second scheme, if a transmission for the common PDSCH is based on FDM, the base station 202 may determine the resources associated with the multiple TRPs by determining the frequency resource of a second TRP by consecutively extending a number of RBs from the schedule RBs for the first TRP, and the number of RBs is the same as the number of the schedule RBs for the first TRP.

[0179] For example, the indicated frequency resource is used for the first TRP, and the consecutively extended RBs (related to the RBs indicated by DCI) with the same number as DCI indication are used for the second TRP.

[0180] In the third scheme, if a transmission for the common PDSCH is based on FDM, the base station 202 may determine the resources associated with the multiple TRPs by determining the frequency resource of a TRP among the multiple TRPs based on the lowest RB of a CORESET associated with the TRP.

[0181] For example, the indicated RB is determined based on the corresponding CORESET. In detail, RB numbering starts from the lowest RB of the corresponding CORESET. In this way, different frequency resources may be used for different TRPs on account of different starting RBs.

[0182] On the other side of the communication, in some embodiments, if a transmission for the common PDSCH is based on FDM, in order to determine the resources associated with the one or more TRPs for the common PDSCH, the UE 201 may determine the resources associated with the one or more TRPs for the common PDSCH by determining resources associated with the multiple TRPs by splitting the schedule RBs equally into consecutive multiple parts for the multiple TRPs.

[0183] In some alternative embodiments, the UE 201 may determine the resources associated with the one or more TRPs for the common PDSCH by determining the frequency resource of a second TRP by consecutively extending a number of RBs from the schedule RBs for the first TRP, wherein the number of RBs is the same as the number of the schedule RBs for the first TRP.

[0184] In some alternative embodiments, the UE 201 may determine the resources associated with the one or more TRPs for the common PDSCH by determining the frequency resource of a TRP among the multiple TRPs based on the lowest RB of a CORESET associated with the TRP.

[0185] Continue to refer to FIG. 2, the base station 202 performs 220 a transmission 225 of the at least one of the common PDCCH or common PDSCH on resources associated with one or more TRPs among the multiple TRPs.

[0186] On the other side of the communication, the UE 201 performs 230 decoding of the at least one of the common PDCCH or common PDSCH based on the resources associated with the one or more TRPs.

[0187] With the process 200, multiple transmission schemes, including single TRP and multiple TRP schemes, may be supported for common channels, including PDCCH / PDSCH for SIB1, other SIB, and paging during initial access. Different transmission schemes can be switched based on the indication of the base station, based on the requirement of coverage, system load, and so on.

[0188] With the assistance of multiple TRPs, the coverage of the common channel is improved since it can improve detection performance, especially for scenarios with blockage. The access latency to some extent is reduced since a smaller repetition number (e.g., for SIB1) can be used for reliable reception. It further achieves higher system spectrum efficiency since smaller overhead can be used for the common channel, such as a smaller aggregation level for common PDCCH, high code rate for common PDSCH.

[0189] FIG. 7 illustrates an example of a device 700 that supports multiple TRP transmission in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The device 700 may be an example of a network entity 102 or a UE 104 as described herein. The device 700 may support wireless communication with one or more network entities 102, UEs 104, or any combination thereof. The device 700 may include components for bi-directional communications including components for transmitting and receiving communications, such as a processor 702, a memory 704, a transceiver 706, and, optionally, an I / O controller 708. These components may be in electronic communication or otherwise coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces (e.g., buses) .
