Abstract
Provided are: an automatic cutting device capable of improving the accuracy of detecting contact of a material to be cut with a stopper; and a method for manufacturing a rolled material. Specifically, this automatic cutting device (1) comprises: a conveyance device (2) that conveys a material to be cut in the conveyance direction on a conveyance path; a saw gauge stopper device (3) that is positioned so as to be capable of moving along the conveyance direction; a cutting device (4) that cuts the material to be cut; and a control device (5). The saw gauge stopper device (3) has a stopper (33) with which the distal end of the material to be cut being conveyed on the conveyance path comes into contact, and a vibrometer (31). The vibrometer (31) measures vibration generated in a direction parallel to the conveyance direction. The control device (5), on the basis of the vibration measured by the vibrometer (31), detects that the distal end of the material to be cut has come into contact with the stopper (33). When contact is detected, the control device (5) performs control for starting the cutting of the material to be cut by the cutting device (4).
