Description

1 / 20 “Turmeric and Creatine Compositions, Method for Preparing Them, as well as the Use of Said Compositions as a Food Supplement” Field of Invention

[0001] The present invention relates to a bioactive composition for dietary supplementation of creatine and turmeric in the recommended daily supplementation amounts and, optionally, additional bioactive ingredients.

[0002] The aforementioned composition is further prepared to maximize the stability and bioavailability of creatine and turmeric in solid and semi-solid presentation forms.

[0003] The present invention also relates to a substantially waterless process for manufacturing said composition and to its use as a food supplement for improving physical performance, as well as for recovery and maintenance of muscle health. Fundamentals of the Invention

[0004] The growing interest in health and physical performance has driven the adoption of dietary practices aimed at optimizing the performance of individuals who engage in physical exercise. One of these nutritional strategies is the use of dietary supplements to complement nutritional needs, facilitating adequate calorie intake and promoting the ideal balance of macronutrients and micronutrients essential for the body. However, despite the wide variety of supplements available on the market, many still fail to offer formulations that are properly balanced and contain ingredients capable of providing physiological benefits.

[0005] Creatine, for example, is widely recognized for its role in muscle energy metabolism and has been used to improve strength, increase muscle mass, and accelerate post-exercise recovery. Studies show that Petition 870240110444, dated 12 / 26 / 2024, page 11 / 36 2 / 20 Creatine supplementation can reduce fatigue, aid in the recovery of muscle injuries, and promote a cellular environment conducive to protein synthesis, facilitating muscle repair and growth after exercise. However, creatine faces challenges of instability in aqueous environments and at high temperatures, where it can degrade into creatinine, an inactive form that is not absorbed by the body, compromising its effectiveness in liquid or reconstitution formulations.

[0006] Another ingredient of growing interest for supplementation is turmeric, traditionally used as a dye, but which has been receiving attention due to its bioactive components, such as curcumin. Curcumin has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and is associated with several health benefits. However, the use of turmeric as a dietary supplement faces significant limitations, mainly related to its low bioavailability and solubility, which prevents its active constituents from being adequately absorbed by the body.

[0007] When combined, creatine and turmeric can offer a synergistic set of benefits for health and physical performance. Creatine, with its ability to improve muscle strength and accelerate recovery, complements the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of curcumin, present in turmeric. Together, these substances can not only enhance muscle growth and recovery, but also reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, promoting a healthier environment for athletic performance and post-exercise recovery. In addition, turmeric may help mitigate some of the stability challenges of creatine, improving the overall effectiveness of supplementation.

[0008] Several compositions have attempted to combine bioactive ingredients to improve physical performance and muscle recovery, such as patent documents US 2011 / 064720, WO 2020 / 225608 and WO 2017 / 059101. However, these Petition 870240110444, dated 12 / 26 / 2024, page 12 / 36 3 / 20 formulations often treat creatine as a secondary or optional component, without exploring its full potential, and do not offer solutions for effectively combining creatine and turmeric in a stable and bioactive way, so as to provide all the benefits of the combination of active ingredients.

[0009] US patent 2011 / 064720 discloses three compositions that combine turmeric and resveratrol, in powder form for reconstitution into liquid or capsules, aimed at improving muscle recovery and physical performance. Furthermore, the document reveals the process for preparing said compositions for use as dietary supplements. Although creatine is mentioned, it is used in concentrations lower than the recommended daily dose for supplementation, being treated as an optional secondary component in the formulations, and does not assume a central role in the proposed efficacy for muscle recovery.

[0010] Document WO 2020 / 225608 refers to the use of a dietary supplement composed of turmeric combined with sulforaphane, intended to enhance physical performance during exercise. The document does not present any composition containing creatine as a component.

[0011] Document WO 2017 / 059101 discloses single-dose compositions and a food supplement intended to improve physical performance. The compositions in said document comprise proteins and carbohydrates in a weight ratio of approximately 0.5:1.

[0012] None of the prior art compositions provide dietary supplementation of creatine and turmeric in recommended daily supplementation amounts. Thus, it is evident that the technical problems of solubility, stability, and degradation of these bioactive compounds during the processing of a composition are technical obstacles that require innovative solutions.

[0013] It is against this backdrop that the invention in question arises, which provides a bioactive composition that combines creatine and turmeric in a matrix. Petition 870240110444, dated 12 / 26 / 2024, page 13 / 36 4 / 20 stable and effective, maximizing the bioavailability, absorption and efficacy of the two bioactive compounds, providing improvements in physical performance and muscle recovery. In addition, the composition of the present invention comprises at least one adjuvant selected from the group comprising acidifier, bulking agent, anti-caking agent, thickener, emulsifier, humectant, antioxidant, flavoring, sweetener, flavor enhancer, stabilizer and consistency or shape alterer.

[0015] Furthermore, one of the objectives of the invention is to provide a process for preparing the composition for food supplementation, in which said process occurs substantially without the addition of water.
