DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0025] The following description is merely exemplary in nature and is not intended to limit the disclosure, its application, or uses. It should be understood that throughout the drawings, corresponding reference numerals indicate like or corresponding parts and features.
[0026] Fig. 1 shows a vehicle 10 according to a non-limiting example. The vehicle 10 includes a vehicle body 12 supported by a plurality of wheels 16. One or more of the plurality of wheels 16 are steerable. The vehicle body 12 partially defines a vehicle interior 20 having a driver seat 23 and a passenger seat 24 disposed behind an instrument panel 26. The instrument panel 26 may include an infotainment system display 120 and an instrument panel display 130. An infotainment system display 120 is part of an infotainment system that may provide both audio and / or visual entertainment and information in audio and / or visual form about the vehicle and / or the road. As a non-limiting example, the infotainment system display 120 may represent the visual component of the infotainment system, include one or more light sources, and may be, for example, a liquid crystal display. An instrument panel display 130 is part of an instrument panel system and may provide visual and / or audible information about the vehicle and / or the road. The instrument panel display 130 may represent the visual component of the instrument panel system, include one or more light sources, and may be, for example, a liquid crystal display. In one non-limiting example, the infotainment system display 120 and the instrument panel display 130 may be combined into a single display. The vehicle body 12 also partially defines an engine compartment 14 in which a prime mover is housed. The prime mover may be, for example, an internal combustion engine, a motor, or both an internal combustion engine and a motor in a hybrid configuration. The vehicle body 12 also includes front and rear doors 18, 19.Above the front door 18 on the driver's side there is a driver's side window 110.
[0027] Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 schematically illustrate a vehicle interior 20 of a vehicle 10 according to a non-limiting example. An example of the relative positions of a driver 101, a passenger 102, an infotainment system display 120, and an instrument panel display 130 within the vehicle interior 20 is schematically illustrated. The infotainment system display 120 may be arranged longitudinally in front of and laterally between the driver 101 and the passenger 102. The instrument panel display 130 may be located directly in front of the driver 101. The driver-side window 110 is located above the driver-side front door 18 on a laterally outer side of the driver 101. In addition, the vehicle interior 20 includes a driver reference position P1 defined at a position where the eyes of the driver 101 can be located, and a passenger reference position P2 defined at a position where the eyes of the passenger 102 can be located.According to one or more embodiments, the driver's reference position P1 can be defined as the eye position of an average-sized driver 101 in the driver's seat 23, and the passenger's reference position P2 can be defined as the eye position of an average-sized passenger 102 in the passenger's seat 24. According to one or more embodiments, the driving reference position P1 is located directly above the driver's seat 23, and the passenger's reference position P2 is located directly above the passenger's seat 24.
[0028] As in Fig. 3, the infotainment system display 120 includes a left edge 123 and a right edge 124, and the instrument panel display 130 includes a left edge 133 and a right edge 134.
[0029] An infotainment system display 120 and an instrument panel display 130 typically have a wide viewing angle, allowing the driver 101 and the passenger 102 to view them from different angles. However, in some vehicles, the wide viewing angles of the infotainment system display 120 and the instrument panel display 130 may cause light from them to strike the driver-side window 110 and be reflected from there onto the driver 101.
[0030] As a non-limiting example, as in Fig. 3, a light beam 125 emitted from the vicinity of a left edge 123 of the infotainment system display 120 is incident on the driver-side window 110 and forms an angle Φi s with respect to a lateral direction of the vehicle 10. The light beam 125 may be reflected from the driver-side window 110 as a reflected light beam 125' and form an angle Φ' iswith respect to the lateral direction of the vehicle 10. According to one or more embodiments, the infotainment system display 120 and the driver-side window 110 are substantially perpendicular, so that the angles Φ is , Φ' is are substantially equal. According to one or more embodiments, the infotainment system display 120 and the driver-side window 110 are not perpendicular to each other, so that the angles Φ is , Φ' is are different. The reflected light beam 125' may then impinge on the driver's reference position P1, so that the driver 101 may perceive glare in the driver-side window 110. While the non-limiting example in Fig. 3 shows that the light beam 125 is emitted from the vicinity of the left edge 123 of the infotainment system display 120 and dazzles the driver 101, the light emitted from various parts of the infotainment system display 120 or from its entirety can also be reflected by the driver's side window 110 and dazzle the driver 101.
[0031] As in Fig. 3, for example, a light beam 135 emitted, in a non-limiting example, from near a left edge 133 of the instrument panel display 130 and incident on the driver-side window 110 will form an angle Φ ip with respect to a lateral direction of the vehicle 10. The light beam 135 is reflected from the driver-side window 110 as a reflected light beam 135', which forms an angle Φ' ipwith respect to the lateral direction of the vehicle 10. According to one or more embodiments, the instrument panel display 130 and the driver-side window 110 are substantially perpendicular, so that the angles Φ ip , Φ' ip are substantially equal. According to one or more embodiments, the instrument panel display 130 and the driver-side window 110 are not perpendicular to each other, so that the angles Φ ip , Φ' ip are different. The reflected light beam 135' can then impinge on the driver's reference position P1, so that the driver 101 can perceive glare in the driver-side window 110. While the non-limiting example in Fig. 3 shows that the light beam 135 is emitted from near the left edge 133 of the instrument panel display 130 and dazzles the driver 101, the light from various parts of the instrument panel display 130 or an entirety thereof may also be reflected from the driver-side window 110 and dazzle the driver 101.
[0032] Fig. Figure 4 shows a schematic representation of a vehicle interior 20 according to a non-limiting example. The vehicle interior 20 is similar to that shown in Fig. 3, however, includes a window anti-glare system in the form of a first microlouver 220 formed on the infotainment system display 120, a first polarized lens 240 formed on the first microlouver 220, a second microlouver 230 formed on the instrument panel display 130, a second polarized lens 250 formed on the second microlouver 230, and an anti-reflective coating 210 formed on an inner surface of the driver-side window 110. While Fig. While Figure 4 illustrates the window anti-glare system utilizing the anti-reflective coating 210, the first microlouver 220, the second microlouver 230, the first polarized plate 240, and the second polarized plate 250 in combination, the present disclosure is not limited thereto. For example, the window anti-glare system may include only one of the following components: the anti-reflective coating 210, the first microlouver 220, the second microlouver 230, the first polarized plate 240, and the second polarized plate 250, or any combination thereof.
[0033] The anti-reflective coating 210 is a structure that smooths the boundary between the air in the vehicle interior 20 and the glass forming the driver-side window 110. This smoothing of the boundary can reduce reflection from the driver-side window 110. Applying the anti-reflective coating 210 to the driver-side window 110 can reduce the reflection of light from the infotainment system display 120 and / or the instrument panel display 130, thereby reducing glare to the driver 101. The anti-reflective coating 210 is an example of an anti-reflective structure.
[0034] The first polarized plate 240 and the second polarized plate 250 may be formed from a polarizing film that limits the type of wave that can pass through it to a specific polarization. According to one or more embodiments, the first polarized plate 240 and the second polarized plate 250 are formed from a polarizing film that only allows horizontally polarized light to pass through while restricting vertically polarized light. Horizontally polarized light may be P-polarized when reflected from the window 110, and vertically polarized light may be S-polarized when reflected from the window 110. In air-to-glass reflection, P-polarized light results in low reflection (e.g., 0.2 or less) at an angle of incidence below 80 degrees and very low reflection (e.g., 0.05 or less) at an angle of incidence below 70 degrees.Furthermore, P-polarized light has significantly lower reflection than S-polarized light when the angle of incidence is between approximately 20 degrees and 80 degrees. The light emitted by the infotainment system display 120 and the instrument panel display 130 and polarized by the first polarized pane 240 and the second polarized pane 250 results in a significant reduction in reflection at the driver-side window 110, which in turn reduces glare to the driver 101. Furthermore, a combination of the first polarized pane 240 and / or the second polarized pane 250 with the anti-reflective coating 210 on the driver-side window 110 can result in a further reduction in glare. The first polarized pane 240 and the second polarized pane 250 are examples of polarizing structures.
[0035] In one non-limiting example, instead of a first polarized lens 240 and / or a second polarized lens 250, the infotainment system display 120 and / or the instrument panel display 130 may be a liquid crystal display with built-in horizontal polarization. That is, the liquid crystal displays of the infotainment system display 120 and / or the instrument panel display 130 may be structured to emit only horizontally polarized light, which would result in a reduction in glare from the driver-side window 110.
[0036] The first microlouver 220 and the second microlouver 230 may each be composed of a film or sheet with shading grid lines that block light transmission at a specific range of viewing angles to reduce the viewing angle therefrom. The viewing angle and orientation of the light emitted by the first microlouver 220 and the second microlouver 230 can be controlled by the spacing and orientation of the shading grid lines. The first microlouver 220 and the second microlouver 230 may be applied or stacked on the infotainment system display 120 and the instrument panel display 130.As a non-limiting example, the first microlouver 220 and the second microlouver 230 may be formed from a microlouver layer containing a plurality of shading grid lines in the form of a multitude of small apertures that block outer portions of the light in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10, thereby reducing the angular range of the light passing therethrough. A plastic or resin layer may be applied to one or both sides of the microlouver layer with an adhesive layer therebetween. Additionally, a protective layer may be formed as the outermost layer. The first microlouver 220 and the second microlouver 230 are examples of microlouver structures.
[0037] While Fig. While FIG. 4 shows a first microlouver 220 disposed directly on the infotainment system display 120, a first polarized plate 240 disposed directly on the first microlouver 220, a second microlouver 230 disposed directly on the instrument panel display 130, and a second polarized plate 250 disposed directly on the second microlouver 230, the present disclosure is not limited thereto. For example, the first polarized plate 240 may be disposed directly on the infotainment system display 120 and the first microlouver 220 directly on the first polarized plate 240, and / or the second polarized plate 250 may be disposed directly on the instrument panel display 130 and the second microlouver 230 directly on the second polarized plate 250.As another example, only the first microlouver 220 or only the first polarized lens 240 may be disposed on the infotainment system display 120 and / or only the second microlouver 230 or only the second polarized lens 250 may be disposed on the instrument panel display 130.
[0038] It should be noted that regardless of the order in which the first microlouver 220 and the first polarized lens 240 are arranged on the infotainment system display 120, both the first microlouver 220 and the first polarized lens 240 are considered to be arranged on the infotainment system display 120. Regardless of the order in which the second microlouver 230 and the second polarized lens 250 are arranged on the instrument panel display 130, both the second microlouver 230 and the second polarized lens 250 are considered to be arranged on the instrument panel display 130.
[0039] Fig. 5 shows a schematic representation of a vehicle interior 20 according to a non-limiting example. Fig. 5 shows a non-limiting example of a first microlouver 220 on the infotainment system display 120 and a second microlouver 230 on the instrument panel display 130.
[0040] The infotainment system display 120 and the instrument panel display 130 may be structured to emit light in wide angle ranges in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10. The wide-angle light from the infotainment system display 120 is incident on the first microlouvre 220, which reduces the viewing angle range in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10 to a reduced angular range θ is to emit light 222 with a reduced angle. The reduced angle range θ isof the first microlouvre disc 220 can be defined as the angle formed between the outermost light rays 223 o1 , 223 o2 in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10 and a central axis 221 at a central position between the outermost light rays 223 o1 , 223 o2 has.
[0041] The wide-angle light from the instrument panel display 130 falls on the second microlouvre 230, which reduces the viewing angle range in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10 to a reduced angular range θ ip to emit light with a reduced angle of 232. The reduced angle range θ ip of the second microlouvre disc 230 can be defined as the angle formed between the outermost light rays 233 o1 , 233 o2in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10 and a central axis 231 at a central position between the outermost light rays 233 o1 , 233 o2 has.
[0042] According to one or more embodiments, the first micro-louvre disk 220 and the second micro-louvre disk 230 may be constructed such that the reduced angular ranges θ is , θ ip are substantially equal. According to one or more embodiments, the first micro-louvre disk 220 and the second micro-louvre disk 230 may be constructed such that the reduced angular ranges θ is , θ ip are different. For example, if the infotainment system display 120 is intended for both the driver 101 and the passenger 102, while the instrument panel display 130 is intended only for the driver 101, the reduced angular range θ is be larger than the reduced angular range θip .
[0043] According to one or more embodiments, the first micro-louvre disk 220 and the second micro-louvre disk 230 may be structured to have reduced angular ranges θ is , θ ip so that part of the angle-reduced light 232 is incident on the driver's reference position P1 and parts of the angle-reduced light 222 are incident on both the driver's reference position P1 and the passenger's reference position P2.
[0044] According to one or more embodiments, the first micro-louvre disk 220 and the second micro-louvre disk 230 may be structured to have regions with reduced angle θ is , θ ipsuch that substantially all of the reduced angle light 222, 232 is not incident on the driver-side window 110 or is reflected from the driver-side window 110 so that it is not incident on the driver's reference position P1.
[0045] According to one or more embodiments, the first micro-louvre disk 220 and the second micro-louvre disk 230 may be structured to have regions with reduced angle θ is , θ ip so that a part of the reduced angle light 222, 232 is not incident on the driver's side window 110 or is reflected from the driver's side window 110 so that it is not incident on the driver's reference position P1.
[0046] According to one or more embodiments, the first micro-louvre disk 220 and the second micro-louvre disk 230 may be structured to have regions with reduced angle θ is , θ ipsuch that substantially all of the angle-reduced light 222, 232 does not impinge on the driver-side window 110 and is reflected from the driver-side window 110 so that it does not impinge on the driver's reference position P1, or impinges on the driver-side window 110 at angles of incidence with low reflection.
[0047] Fig. 5 shows that the first microlouvre disk 220 and the second microlouvre disk 230 are uniformly shaped such that the central axes 221, 231 of the angle-reduced light 222, 232 are aligned with a vehicle longitudinal axis. However, according to one or more embodiments, the first microlouvre disk 220 and / or the second microlouvre disk 230 can be irregularly shaped such that at least parts of the first microlouvre disk 220 and / or the second microlouvre disk 230 emit light 222, 232 at a reduced angle, the central axes 221, 231 of which are at an angle to the longitudinal axis. The irregularity of the first microlouvre disk 220 and / or the second microlouvre disk 230 can be achieved by varying the reduced angle ranges θ is , θ ipacross the first micro-louvre disk 220 and / or the second micro-louvre disk 230 in addition to the variation of the central axes 221, 231. Such variations may be continuous across the first micro-louvre disk 220 and / or the second micro-louvre disk 230. According to one or more embodiments, the reduced angular ranges θ is , θ ip correspond to the viewing angles of the first microlouvre disc 220 and / or the second microlouvre disc 230.
[0048] Fig. 6 shows a non-limiting example of a second microlouvre 230 having a non-uniform structure and arranged on the instrument panel display 130. A portion of the second microlouvre 230, which is longitudinally aligned with the driver's reference position P1, emits light 232. c with reduced angle, which has a reduced angle θ ipc between the outermost rays of light 233co1 , 233 co2 in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10 and forms a central axis 231 c in a central position between the outermost light rays 233 co1 , 233 co2 which is aligned with the longitudinal direction of the vehicle 10.
[0049] A portion of the second microlouvre 230 near the left edge 133 of the instrument panel display 130 emits light 232 l with reduced angle, which has a reduced angle θ ipl between the outermost rays of light 233 lo1 , 233 lo2 in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10 and forms a central axis 231 l in a central position between the outermost light rays 233 lo1 , 233 lo2 which has an angle W ipl , with the longitudinal direction of the vehicle 10. As a non-limiting example, the central axis 231 lintersect with the driver's reference position P1. According to one or more embodiments, the central axis 23141 may not intersect with the driver's reference position P1.
[0050] As a non-limiting example, the outermost light beam 233 lo1 in a direction having a lateral component toward the driver's reference position P1. According to one or more embodiments, the outermost light beam 233 lo1 in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle or in a direction with a lateral component in a direction away from the driver's reference position P1.
[0051] A portion of the second microlouvre 230 near the right edge 134 of the instrument panel display 130 emits light 232 r with reduced angle, which has a reduced angle θ ipr between the outermost rays of light 233 ro1 , 233 ro2in the lateral direction of the vehicle 10 and forms a central axis 231 r in a central position between the outermost light rays 233 ro1 , 233 ro2 which has an angle ψ ipr with the longitudinal direction of the vehicle 10. As a non-limiting example, the central axis 231 r intersect with the driver's reference position P1. According to one or more embodiments, the central axis 231 r do not overlap with the driver's reference position P1.
[0052] As a non-limiting example, the outermost light beam 233 ro1 in a direction having a lateral component toward the driver's reference position P1. According to one or more embodiments, the outermost light beam 233 ro1in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle or in a direction with a lateral component in a direction away from the driver's reference position P1.
[0053] Since it may be sufficient for the instrument panel display 130 to be seen only by the driver 101, the driver 101's view is maintained by angling the center axes of the angle-reduced light from the outer parts toward the driver's reference position P1, while suppressing or preventing the angle-reduced light from being reflected back to the driver 101 from the driver-side window 110. This can suppress or prevent glare from the instrument panel display 130.
[0054] While Fig.5-6 show a window anti-glare system having only a first microlouver 220 and a second microlouver 230, the window anti-glare system may also include a first polarized lens 240 formed on the first microlouver 220, a second polarized lens 250 formed on the second microlouver 230, and / or an anti-reflective coating 210 formed on an interior surface of the driver-side window 110.
[0055] Furthermore, a combination of the first microlouver 220 and the first polarized lens 240 and / or a combination of the second microlouver 230 and the second polarized lens 250 can lead to unique, unexpected advantages. While the first microlouver 220 and / or the second microlouver 230 can be used to reduce the angular range of light emitted by the infotainment system display 120 and / or the instrument panel display 130 to reduce glare from the driver-side window, as discussed above, excessive angle reduction can also result in a loss of the desired viewing angles for the infotainment system display 120 and / or the instrument panel display 130 for the driver 101 and / or the passenger 102.As a non-limiting example, using the first polarized sheet 240 and / or the second polarized sheet 250 to transmit only horizontally polarized light, a first microlouver sheet 220 and / or a second microlouver sheet 230 with a smaller reduction in viewing angle may be achieved.
