[0001] An electrolysis system has already been proposed, comprising at least one electrolysis cell unit for the electrolysis of at least one reactant and at least one fluid transport unit, which is connected to the electrolysis cell unit for the removal of at least one product of the electrolysis. Disclosure of the invention
[0002] The invention relates to an electrolysis system with at least one electrolysis cell unit for the electrolysis of at least one reactant and with at least one fluid transport unit, which is connected to the electrolysis cell unit for the removal of at least one product of the electrolysis.
[0003] It is proposed that the at least one fluid transport unit be arranged at least substantially entirely downstream of the at least one electrolysis cell unit. The electrolysis cell unit preferably comprises at least one electrolysis cell, for example, a solid oxide electrolysis cell, a molten carbonate electrolysis cell, a polymer electrolyte electrolysis cell, or the like. Preferably, the electrolysis cell unit comprises a plurality of electrolysis cells, which are preferably electrically connected, in particular in series, for common operation. The electrolysis cells can be arranged in a single stack or in a group of several stacks. The electrolysis cell unit preferably comprises at least one reactant distributor and / or a product collector for a fluidically parallel connection of the electrolysis cells to a reactant supply of the electrolysis system or to a product discharge of the electrolysis system.
[0004] The at least one, and in particular each, electrolysis cell of the electrolysis cell unit preferably comprises at least one first electrode, at least one further electrode, and at least one electrolyte, which are arranged between the electrodes. The at least one electrolysis cell unit is preferably designed to convert the at least one reactant into the at least one product, which is provided at the first electrode, and into at least one further product, which is provided at the further electrode, by means of electrolysis. The at least one fluid transport unit is preferably connected to the at least one first electrode via a fluid transport system. The electrolysis system preferably comprises at least one further fluid transport unit, which is connected to the at least one further electrode via a fluid transport system. The further fluid transport unit preferably comprises at least one reactant supply branch, which is fluidically connected to a reactant inlet of the further electrode for supplying the electrolysis cell unit with the at least one reactant. The further fluid transport unit preferably comprises a product discharge branch, which is fluidically connected to a product outlet of the at least one further electrode for the discharge of the further product.
[0005] The term "essentially completely downstream" preferably means that, in at least one operating configuration of the electrolysis system intended for carrying out the electrolysis, the at least one fluid transport unit is arranged such that a total mass flow through the fluid transport unit corresponds to a diffusion rate of at least 90%, preferably at least 95%, and particularly preferably at least 99% of the at least one product through the at least one electrolyte. The at least one fluid transport unit preferably comprises a product discharge branch connected to a product outlet of the at least one first electrode for the discharge of the at least one product, and particularly preferably does not include a branch connected upstream of the at least one first electrode.Particularly preferably, in the operating configuration of the electrolysis system intended for carrying out electrolysis, the at least one electrolyte forms the only fluid inlet to the at least one first electrode and, in particular, to the at least one fluid transport unit. The electrolysis cell unit and / or the at least one further fluid transport unit may include additional fluid inlets to the first electrode and / or the at least one fluid transport unit, which are intended for use in other operating configurations of the electrolysis system, for example, as maintenance access, inert gas inlet, or the like, and which are closed off in the operating configuration of the electrolysis system intended for carrying out electrolysis.
[0006] The term "intended" should be understood to mean specifically programmed, designed, and / or equipped. The fact that an object is intended for a specific function should be understood to mean, in particular, that the object fulfills and / or executes this specific function in at least one application and / or operating state.
[0007] The design according to the invention makes it possible to provide an advantageously simple, efficient and component-free electrolysis system.
[0008] It is further proposed that the at least one electrolysis cell unit forms a fluid transport unit for transporting the at least one product through the fluid transport unit. The fluid transport unit preferably comprises at least one product line for guiding the at least one product from the electrolysis cell unit to a product system outlet of the electrolysis system. The product system outlet can be configured to discharge the product into the environment or to transfer the product to an external supply line, a filling station, or the like. The electrolysis cell unit is preferably, and in particular only, designed to generate an overpressure relative to the fluid transport unit, especially relative to the product system outlet, by means of electrolysis carried out at a predetermined operating temperature of the electrolysis cell unit, so that the at least one product flows from the electrolysis cell unit through the product line of the fluid transport unit. The design according to the invention eliminates the need for an additional fan to transport the product by means of an airflow. Furthermore, the at least one product can be supplied at the product system outlet with an advantageously high degree of purity.
[0009] Furthermore, it is proposed that the electrolysis system comprises at least one additional fluid transport unit, in particular the one already mentioned, for the discharge of at least one additional product of the electrolysis, in particular the one already mentioned, and at least one heat exchanger which thermally couples the at least one fluid transport unit and the at least one additional fluid transport unit. [0011] Furthermore, it is proposed that the at least one fluid transport unit includes at least one turbine for generating electricity. The at least one turbine is preferably arranged within the product line. The turbine is preferably arranged downstream of the heat exchanger in the product line. The maximum pressure that can be built up is preferably at least 1 bar, more preferably at least 2 bar above the pressure at the product system outlet and / or atmospheric pressure. The maximum pressure that can be built up is preferably less than 45 bar, more preferably less than 31 bar above the pressure at the product system outlet and / or atmospheric pressure. The further fluid transport unit preferably comprises at least one pressurization unit, for example a pump, a compressor, or the like, for pressurizing the reactant at the at least one further electrode with sufficient pressure to reach the maximum pressure at the at least one first electrode during electrolysis. Depending on the design of the electrolysis cell unit, the electrolysis system includes a pressure chamber in which at least the electrolysis cell unit, in particular a hotbox of the electrolysis system, is arranged to maintain a pressure difference between the electrode of the electrolysis cell unit and an interior of the pressure chamber below a limit value, in particular constant. The control electronics unit comprises, for example, a processor unit and a memory unit, as well as an operating program stored in the memory unit. The design according to the invention allows a difference in the fluid parameters of the fluid transport units, in particular a difference in the fluid parameters within the electrolysis cell unit, to be advantageously kept constant, and in particular advantageously small.
[0015] Furthermore, it is proposed that at least one, and in particular each, sensor element and at least one, and in particular each, actuator element of the control unit be arranged downstream of the electrolysis cell unit. Preferably, the sensor element and / or the actuator element is arranged in the product discharge branch of the further fluid transport unit.
