[0001] The present invention relates to an interior part for a vehicle. Furthermore, the present invention is directed to a method for manufacturing a surface body as a decorative top layer of such an interior part. Beyond that the present invention relates to a vehicle comprising such an interior part.

[0002] Ambient lighting is a key feature of modern vehicles by which the appearance of a passenger compartment can be set individually. Communication between vehicle and passenger is becoming more and more important, especially with the advancement of autonomous driving. Lighting in the passenger compartment is taking over specific tasks, like the visual indication of functions and warnings in the vehicle. Ambient lighting is increasingly becoming functional light. Lighting in the passenger compartment is becoming an important part of the design leading to an increase of the passenger comfort.

[0003] The light emitting devices can be arranged in manifold locations of interior parts of modern vehicles that are visible from the passenger compartment. Examples of such interior parts are instrument panels, door panels, center consoles, headliner and vehicle seats. The respective layout of illuminated interior parts comprises a surface body that is visible from the passenger compartment. The surface body transmits light but diffuses or scatters the light so that objects cannot be seen through it from a certain distance. To this end the surface body has a transmittance to light of at least 1% and is considered as translucent. The surface body comprises a first surface and a second surface. The second surface is visible from the passenger compartment. The first surface is laminated on a soft or a solid carrier body. Moreover, a light emitting device that emits light is arranged such that the light emitted by the light emitting device impinges on the first surface. Seen from the passenger compartment the light emitting device is arranged behind the surface body.

[0004] The way to create certain light patterns by employing layers of different transmittances to light is also referred to as "masking". These layers are applied to the first surface.

[0005] Thus these layers having a transmittance of 100% or almost 100% and transmitting light without scattering, so that objects can be seen through it, are considered as transparent to light whereas layers impervious to the passage of light are opaque and thus have a transmittance of 0% or almost 0%. This is of particular importance in light colored surfaces (e.g. white, beige), where several layers may be required.

[0008] It is one task of the present invention to present an interior part of a vehicle having a surface body with a homogeneous appearance, whether the light emitting device is turned on or off, and that allows for an easy provision of different light patterns. Beyond that it is one objective of the present invention to present a method by which such interior parts may be manufactured in a fast, flexible and cost-efficient way. Furthermore, an embodiment of the present invention has the objective to provide a vehicle comprising such an interior part.

[0009] According to one embodiment of the present invention an interior part for a vehicle comprises at least one carrier body having a transmittance for light of at least 1%, a surface body forming a first surface and a second surface, having a transmittance for light of at least 1% and being laminated to the carrier body, at least one light emitting device emitting light and arranged such that the light emitted by the light emitting device impinges on the first surface, a masking section comprising a first layer applied to the first surface and having a first transmittance for light, the masking section partially covering the first surface by forming gaps, and at least one filling layer applied to the first surface at least partially filling at least some of the gaps and having a filling layer transmittance for light.

[0011] According to the invention the second surface is facing the interior of the vehicle, and the gaps that are not filled by the filling layer being arranged such that the gaps are invisible from the interior of the vehicle. Some of the interior parts of the vehicle are only partially visible from the passenger compartment. Examples may be the area of fastening sections by which the interior parts are fastened to a vehicle structure and where the interior parts may be covered by a vehicle trim part. The gaps arranged in the sections of the surface body that are not visible from the passenger compartment are not filled with the filling layer. The interior part 10 comprises a surface body 12 forming a first surface 14 and a second surface 16. The surface body 12 is laminated to a carrier body 19. Moreover, the interior part 10 comprises a light emitting device 18 that emits light. The light emitting device 18 may be embodied as a light guide that is interacting with a light emitting device such as an LED or a light bulb (not shown). It is also possible to apply further layers comprising their own first, second and filling layers 21, 46, 36. Highly individual light patterns can thus be generated. Laser printing may also be employed. Figures 15A to 15C are principle sketches showing a second method to apply different layers on the first surface 14 of the surface body 12. The application device 52 comprises a first layer application device 56, in this case a cylinder or a screen with a scraper by which the first layer 42 may be applied to the first surface 14 of the surface body 12 (Figure 15A). Moreover, the application device 52 comprises a second layer application device 57, also a cylinder by which the second layer 46 may be applied to the first surface 14 of the surface body 12 (Figure 15B). Between the application of the first layer 42 and the second layer 40 a drying and / or curing step is performed.

Claims

1. Interior part (26) for a vehicle (11), comprising - at least one carrier body (19) having a transmittance for light (HC) of at least 1%, - a surface body (12) forming a first surface (14) and a second surface (16), having a transmittance for light (HS) of at least 1% and being laminated to the carrier body (19), - at least one light emitting device (18) emitting light and arranged such that the light emitted by the light emitting device (18) impinges on the first surface (14), - a masking section (37) comprising a first layer (42) applied to the first surface (14) and having a masking section transmittance for light (HM), the masking section (37) partially covers the first surface (14) by forming gaps (22), and - at least one filling layer (36) applied to the first surface (14) at least partially filling at least some of the gaps (22) and having a filling layer transmittance for light (HF), - the second surface (16) facing the interior of the vehicle (11), characterized in that - the gaps 22) arranged in the sections of the surface body 19), that are not visible from the passenger compartment (2) when the interior part (10) is mounted, are not filled with the filling layer (36).

2. Interior part (26) according to claim 1, characterized in that a first masking section (371) is applied to the first surface (14) and second masking section 372) is applied to the filling layer (36).

3. Interior part (26) according to claim 1, characterized in that the masking section (37) comprises a second layer (46) that is applied - to the first surface (14), - to the first surface (14) between the surface body (12) and the first layer (42), - to the first layer (42), or - to the filling layer (36), the second layer (46) having a second transmittance for light (H2).

4. Interior part (26) according to claim 3, characterized in that a primary second layer (48) is applied to the first surface (14) and a secondary second layer (50) is applied to the filling layer (36).

Interior part (26) according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that - the surface body (12) is of a given color, - the first layer (42) is formed by a first sublayer (38) and a second sublayer (40) being arranged on top of each other, - the first sublayer (38) is applied to the first surface (14) and having a color adjusted to the color of the surface body (12).

6. Interior part (26) according to claim 5, characterized in that the first sublayer (38) is flush with a primary first filling layer (3611) and the second sublayer (40) is flush with a primary second filling layer (3612).

7. Interior part (26) according to one of the claims 5 or 6, characterized in that the first layer (42) further comprises a third sublayer (41), the third sublayer (41) having reflective properties.

8. Interior part (26) according to claim 7, characterized in that the third sublayer (41) is flush with a primary third filling layer (363).

9. Interior part (26) according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the filling layer (36) extends beyond the gaps (22) and embeds the first layer (42) and / or the second layer (46).

10. Method for manufacturing a surface body (12) of an interior part of one of the preceding claims, the interior part being for a vehicle (11), comprising the steps of: - providing a surface body (12), and ∘ printing the first layer (42) and the filling layer (36) on the first surface (14) by means of a printer (54) in the same step, or ∘ printing the first layer (42), the second layer (46) and the filling layer (36) on the first surface (14), by means of a printer (54) in the same step, or - providing a surface body (12), and ∘ applying the first layer (42) by means of a first layer application device (56), ∘ drying and / or curing the first layer (42), and ∘ applying the filling layer (36) by means of a filling layer application device (58).

11. Method according to claim 10, characterized in that after the step of applying the filling layer (36) by means of a filling layer application device the following steps are executed: - drying and / or curing the filling layer (36), and - applying the second layer (46) on the first surface (14), on the first layer (42) or on the filling layer (36) by means of a second layer application device (57).

12. Method according to one of the claims 10 or 11, characterized in that the surface body (12) is bonded to a carrier body (19) after at least the first layer (42) and the filling layer (36) are applied to the surface body (12).

13. Vehicle (11), comprising an interior part according to one of the claims 1 to 9 or manufactured by a method according to one of the claims 10 to 12.
