A multi-compartment tray (10) is provided, having at least two compartments (12, 14) that are connected at the time of sale and subsequently can be divided into separate, uncoupled compartments by a user. The compartments are joined by a three-dimensional wave-shaped perforation region (24). Each perforation wave (26) includes a ridge (30) and a channel (28), and perforation tabs (32, 34) are formed on at least some of the ridges and channels, forming the point of interconnection between the compartments. In use, a user can apply leverage to the displaced planes, resulting in the compartments bending / splitting relative to one another and fracturing the perforation, thereby separating the compartments.
