Title: Method and system for preparing a packaging bag for receipt of a product therein Abstract Method of preparing a packaging bag for receipt of a product therein, comprising: tearing a perforation of a first layer of a web of packaging material by forcing a medial portion of the first layer away from a second layer of the web in an opening direction substantially normal to a plane in which the web extends at a position just distal from the perforation while retaining together the first layer and the second layer at a position just proximal from the perforation; and holding the forced away medial portion of the first layer apart from the second layer to hold the packaging bag open at its top end for receipt of a product, wherein at least an initial part of the forcing away is performed using suction applied to the medial portion of the first layer in the opening direction.
