Abstract
The present invention provides a method for utilizing pure essential oils from citronella to formulate mosquito repellent spray. Citronella contains citronellal, citronellol, and geraniol, that provide its aroma and mosquito-repellent ability. The method involved washing the citronella grass to remove impurities. Air dying extracting the raw materials at room temperature to remove moisture. The leaves are then subjected to leaching processes in which they are soaked in 500 mL of hexane overnight to ensure efficient and pure essential oil extraction. Recover the hexane through distillation using a Soxhlet apparatus, leaving behind the pure essential oil to achieve a natural, eco-friendly, cost-effective and sustainable mosquito-repellent spray.
