The invention comprises an air distribution unit for an air lift pump comprising a housing comprising a top surface, a bottom surface and a continuous side surface extending between the top surface and the bottom surface, which housing defines an enclosed volume, and in which the housing is provided with one or more air supply openings and a multitude of enclosed passages through the housing, each surrounded by a passage surface extending between the top surface and the bottom surface of the housing, where each passage extends between a passage opening in the top surface and a passage opening in the bottom surface, and where each passage surface is perforated by a multitude of passage surface perforations.
