[0062] In the following description, for the purpose of illustration, many specific details are set forth to provide a thorough understanding of various exemplary embodiments or embodiments of the present invention. As used herein, "embodiment" and "embodiment" are interchangeable words as non-limiting examples of one or more devices or methods using the inventive concept disclosed herein. However, it is apparent that various exemplary embodiments can be practiced without these specific details or by one or more equivalent arrangements. In other examples, known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form to avoid unnecessary confusion of various exemplary embodiments. In addition, various exemplary embodiments may be different, but need not be exclusive. For example, without departing from the inventive concept, the specific shape, configuration and characteristics of the exemplary embodiment may be used or implemented in another exemplary embodiment.
[0063] Unless otherwise specified, the exemplary embodiments shown should be understood as providing exemplary features of different details that can implement some ways of the present invention in practice. Therefore, unless otherwise specified, the features, components, modules, layers, films, panels, regions and / or aspects of various embodiments (hereinafter individually or collectively referred to as "elements") can be combined, separated, interchanged and / or rearranged in other ways without departing from the present invention.
[0064] The use of cross hatching and / or shadows in the accompanying drawings is generally provided to make the boundaries between adjacent elements clear. Thus, unless otherwise stated, the presence or absence of cross hatching or shadows will not convey or indicate any preference or requirement for a specific material, material properties, size, ratio, commonality between the shown elements and / or any other characteristics, attributes, properties, etc. of the elements. In addition, in the accompanying drawings, the size and relative size of the elements may be exaggerated for the purpose of clarity and / or description. When the exemplary embodiments can be implemented in different ways, the specific process sequence may be performed differently from the described sequence. For example, two processes described in succession may be performed substantially simultaneously or in an order opposite to the described order. In addition, similar reference numerals represent similar elements.
[0065] When an element (e.g., layer) is referred to as being "on", "connected to" or "coupled to" another element or layer, the element (e.g., layer) may be directly on, directly connected to or directly coupled to another element or layer, or there may be an intervening element or layer. However, when an element or layer is referred to as being "directly" "on", "directly connected to" or "directly coupled to" another element or layer, there is no intervening element or layer. For this reason, the term "connected" may indicate a physical connection, electrical and / or fluid connection with or without an intervening element. In addition, the D1 axis, the D2 axis, and the D3 axis are not limited to the three axes of a rectangular coordinate system (such as the x-axis, the y-axis, and the z-axis), and may be interpreted as having a broader meaning. For example, the D1 axis, the D2 axis, and the D3 axis may be perpendicular to each other, or may represent different directions that are not perpendicular to each other. For the purpose of this disclosure, "at least one of X, Y, and Z" and "at least one selected from the group consisting of X, Y, and Z" may be interpreted as only X, only Y, only Z, or any combination of two or more of X, Y, and Z, such as XYZ, XYY, YZ, and ZZ. As used herein, the term "and / or" includes any and all combinations of one or more of the associated listed items.
[0066] Although the terms "first", "second", etc. may be used herein to describe various types of elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are used to distinguish one element from another element. Therefore, without departing from the teachings of the present disclosure, the first element discussed below may be referred to as the second element.

Spatially relative terms are intended to encompass different orientations of the device in use, operation, and / or manufacture in addition to the orientations depicted in the figures. For example, if the device in the figures is turned over, elements described as being "below" or "beneath" other elements or features would subsequently be oriented to be "above" the other elements or features. Thus, the exemplary term "below" may encompass both the above and below orientations. Furthermore, the device may be otherwise oriented (e.g., rotated 90 degrees or at other orientations), and thus, the spatially relative descriptors used herein should be interpreted accordingly.
[0068] The terms used herein are for the purpose of describing specific embodiments and are not intended to be limiting. Unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" as used herein are intended to also include the plural forms. In addition, when the words "comprise", "comprising", "include" and / or "including" are used in this specification, the existence of the stated features, wholes, steps, operations, elements, parts and / or groups thereof is indicated, but the existence or addition of one or more other features, wholes, steps, operations, elements, parts and / or groups thereof is not excluded. It is also noted that, as used herein, the words "substantially", "about" and other similar words are used as approximate words rather than as words of degree, and thus, are used to allow for the inherent deviations of the measured values, calculated values and / or provided values that will be recognized by those of ordinary skill in the art.
[0069] Various exemplary embodiments are described herein with reference to cross-sectional views and / or exploded views that are schematic illustrations of idealized exemplary embodiments and / or intermediate structures. [0070] According to the convention in the art, some exemplary embodiments are described and shown in the drawings with functional blocks, units and / or modules. It will be understood by those skilled in the art that these blocks, units and / or modules are physically implemented by electronic (or optical) circuits (such as logic circuits, discrete components, microprocessors, hard-wired circuits, memory elements, wiring connectors, etc. that can be formed using semiconductor-based manufacturing techniques or other manufacturing techniques). In the case where blocks, units and / or modules are implemented by microprocessors or other similar hardware, they can be programmed and controlled using software (e.g., microcode) to perform the various functions discussed herein, and can be optionally driven by firmware and / or software. It is also expected that each block, unit and / or module can be implemented by dedicated hardware, or can be implemented as a combination of dedicated hardware and processors (e.g., one or more programmed microprocessors and associated circuits) that perform some functions to perform other functions. Moreover, without departing from the scope of the inventive concept, each block, unit and / or module of some exemplary embodiments can be physically separated into two or more interactive and discrete blocks, units and / or modules. [0071] Unless otherwise defined, all terms (including technical and scientific terms) used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by those of ordinary skill in the art to which the present disclosure belongs. Terms, such as those defined in commonly used dictionaries, should be interpreted as having a meaning consistent with their meaning in the context of the relevant technology and should not be interpreted in an idealized or overly formal sense unless explicitly defined as such herein.
[0072] Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0073] Figure 1 is a schematic block diagram of a display device according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0074] Reference Figure 1 , the display device 1000 may include a display panel 100 , a signal controller 210 , a data driver 220 , a gate driver 230 , a light source driver 240 , and a light source unit 300 .
[0075] The display device 1000 can be used in small and medium-sized electronic devices such as personal computers, notebook computers, personal digital assistants, car navigation units, game consoles, portable electronic devices, tablet computers, and cameras, as well as large electronic devices such as televisions, monitors, or outdoor advertising boards. Moreover, these are provided only as examples, and the display device 1000 can also be used in other electronic devices without departing from the concept of the present invention.
[0076] The display panel 100 may be a non-emissive display panel. For example, the display panel 100 may be a liquid crystal display panel. The display panel 100 may receive light L1 and L2 from the light source unit 300 and may display an image by controlling the transmittance of the light L1 and L2.
[0077] The display panel 100 may include data lines DL1 to DLm, gate lines GL1 to GLn, and pixels PX. The data lines DL1 to DLm may extend in a first direction DR1 and may be arranged in a second direction DR2 crossing the first direction DR1. The gate lines GL1 to GLn may extend in a second direction DR2 and may be arranged in the first direction DR1. The data lines DL1 to DLm and the gate lines GL1 to GLn may define a pixel region, and the pixels PX configured to display an image may be included in the pixel region.
[0078] The signal controller 210 may include a timing controller. The signal controller 210 receives image data RGB and a control signal CS provided from the outside. The control signal CS may include a vertical synchronization signal, a horizontal synchronization signal, a main clock signal, and a data enable signal.
[0079] The signal controller 210 generates converted image data R′G′B′ by converting the image data RGB to match the operation of the display panel 100 , and outputs the converted image data R′G′B′ to the data driver 220 .
[0080] The signal controller 210 provides a first control signal CS1 to the data driver 220, a second control signal CS2 to the gate driver 230, and a third control signal CS3 to the light source driver 240. The first control signal CS1 is a signal for controlling the data driver 220, the second control signal CS2 is a signal for controlling the gate driver 230, and the third control signal CS3 is a signal for controlling the light source driver 240.
[0081] The data driver 220 may provide data signals to the data lines DL1 to DLm in response to the first control signal CS1. The data driver 220 may be implemented as an independent integrated circuit chip so that it may be electrically connected to one side of the display panel 100, or may be integrated into a predetermined area of the display panel 100. In the case where the data driver 220 is provided as an independent integrated circuit chip, the integrated circuit chip may be provided as a single chip or may be provided as a plurality of chips.
[0082] The gate driver 230 may provide a gate signal to the gate lines GL1 to GLn in response to the second control signal CS2. The gate driver 230 may be integrated into a predetermined area of the display panel 100. The gate driver 230 may be implemented as a circuit using an amorphous silicon gate driver (ASG), a silicon oxide gate driver (OSG), an oxide semiconductor, a crystalline semiconductor, or a polycrystalline semiconductor, wherein the amorphous silicon gate driver (ASG) uses an amorphous silicon thin film transistor (a-SiTFT) and the silicon oxide gate driver (OSG) uses a silicon oxide thin film transistor. Moreover, the gate driver 230 may be implemented as an independent integrated circuit chip so that it can be electrically connected to one side of the display panel 100.
[0083] The light source driver 240 may control the light emission of the light source included in the light source unit 300 in response to the third control signal CS3. For example, the light source driver 240 may be configured for time-division driving of the light source unit 300. Therefore, in another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the light source driver 240 may be omitted when the light source unit 300 does not require time-division driving. In this case, the signal controller 210 may not generate the third control signal CS3.
[0084] The light source unit 300 may provide light L1 and L2 to the display panel 100. In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the light L1 and L2 may include first light L1 and second light L2. The first light L1 and the second light L2 may have different peak wavelengths. For the purpose of this specification, the wavelength with the maximum light intensity is defined as the peak wavelength.
[0085] For example, in the case where the light source unit 300 is driven in a time-division manner, the light source unit 300 may provide the first light L1 and / or the second light L2 to the display panel 100 in response to a signal provided from the light source driver 240. For example, the light source unit 300 may provide only the first light L1 to the display panel 100, may provide only the second light L2 to the display panel 100, or may provide both the first light L1 and the second light L2 to the display panel 100.
[0086] Figure 2 A light source unit according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention is shown, and Figure 3φ is an intensity spectrum of light emitted from the first light source and the second light source according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0087] Reference Figure 2 and Figure 3 , the light source unit 300 includes a first light source 301 and a second light source 302. The first light source 301 and the second light source 302 may be light emitting diodes (LEDs) or other light emitting devices. The first light source 301 emits a first light L1, and the second light source 302 emits a second light L2.
[0088] exist Figure 3 , the first spectrum LG1 shows the intensity spectrum of the first light L1, and the second spectrum LG2 shows the intensity spectrum of the second light L2. The first peak wavelength PLG1 of the first light L1 and the second peak wavelength PLG2 of the second light L2 may be different from each other. For example, the first peak wavelength PLG1 may be greater than the second peak wavelength PLG2.
[0089] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first peak wavelength PLG1 and the second peak wavelength PLG2 may have a value of about 365 nm or more to about 500 nm or less. For example, the first peak wavelength PLG1 and the second peak wavelength PLG2 may be within the wavelength range of blue light. Therefore, the first light L1 may represent the first blue light, and the second light L2 may represent the second blue light.
[0090] The first peak wavelength PLG1 may be selected according to the display panel 100 (see Figure 1 ) is determined by product specifications (e.g., size, resolution, color coordinates, etc.) of the light source unit 300. For example, the first peak wavelength PLG1 may have a value of about 450 nm or more to about 500 nm or less. As a specific example, in the case where a product using the light source unit 300 needs to meet BT 2020 (ITU-R recommended standard), the first peak wavelength PLG1 may have a value of about 450 nm or more to about 467 nm or less, and may be, for example, about 467 nm. In addition, in the case where the light source unit 300 is used for small and medium-sized display panels 100 (see Figure 1 ), the first peak wavelength PLG1 may have a value of about 465 nm or more to about 475 nm or less. However, this is only an example, and the value of the first peak wavelength PLG1 is not limited thereto.
[0091] The second peak wavelength PLG2 may have a value smaller than the first peak wavelength PLG1. For example, the second peak wavelength PLG2 may have a value of about 365 nm or more to less than the first peak wavelength PLG1. For example, the second peak wavelength PLG2 may be about 400 nm.
[0092] One of the pixel areas of the display panel 100 may display the first light L1. For example, the pixel area may display a blue image by transmitting blue light. Here, displaying light may also refer to displaying an image by adjusting the amount of transmission of the provided light.
[0093] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first light L1 is determined according to applicable product specifications. Therefore, the color purity of the pixel area can be set to a desired value by adjusting the wavelength of the first light. Therefore, the color purity of the pixel area can be increased, and thus, the display device 1000 (see Figure 1 ) can be improved.
[0094] Furthermore, the display device 1000 (see Figure 1 ) may include a luminescent material. The luminescent material may absorb light having a predetermined wavelength and may convert the wavelength of the absorbed light. For example, the luminescent material may absorb at least one of the first light L1 and the second light L2, and may emit a first color light and a second color light converted from the wavelength of the absorbed light.
[0095] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the second light L2 has a shorter wavelength than the first light L1. The light absorption rate of the luminescent material for the shorter wavelength may be higher than the light absorption rate of the luminescent material for the longer wavelength. Therefore, the light absorption rate of the luminescent material may be increased by the second light L2. Therefore, the light conversion efficiency of the luminescent material may be improved. Therefore, the luminous efficiency of the pixel area displaying the first color light and the pixel area displaying the second color light may be improved.
[0096] Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view showing a display device according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0097] Reference Figure 4 , a display panel 100 , a light source unit 300 , and a wavelength conversion member 400 of a display device 1000 are shown.
[0098] The display panel 100 may include a first substrate PL1, a second substrate PL2, a liquid crystal layer LCL, a first polarizing layer POL1, and a second polarizing layer POL2.
[0099] The first substrate PL1 may include a first base substrate SUB1, a circuit layer CL, an insulating layer IL, and a pixel electrode PE.
[0100] The first base substrate SUB1 may include an insulating material. For example, the first base substrate SUB1 may be a silicon substrate, a plastic substrate, an insulating film, a stacked structure, a glass substrate, or a quartz substrate. The stacked structure may include a plurality of insulating layers. The first base substrate SUB1 may be optically transparent. Accordingly, light generated from the light source unit 300 may easily reach the liquid crystal layer LCL through the first base substrate SUB1.
[0101] The circuit layer CL is disposed on the first base substrate SUB1. The circuit layer CL may include a plurality of insulating layers, a plurality of conductive layers, and a semiconductor layer. For example, the circuit layer CL may include an organic layer / inorganic layer and a transistor.
[0102] An insulating layer IL configured to cover the circuit layer CL may be disposed on the circuit layer CL, and a pixel electrode PE may be disposed on the insulating layer IL. The pixel electrode PE may include a first pixel electrode PE1, a second pixel electrode PE2, and a third pixel electrode PE3.
[0103] The display panel 100 may include a first pixel area PEA1, a second pixel area PEA2, and a third pixel area PEA3. Herein, the first pixel area PEA1 may be defined as a region including a region overlapping with the first pixel electrode PE1, the second pixel area PEA2 may be defined as a region including a region overlapping with the second pixel electrode PE2, and the third pixel area PEA3 may be defined as a region including a region overlapping with the third pixel electrode PE3.
[0104] The second substrate PL2 may include a second base substrate SUB2 and a common electrode CE.
[0105] The second base substrate SUB2 may be an optically transparent insulating substrate. The second base substrate SUB2 may include the same material as the first base substrate SUB1. Therefore, a description thereof will be omitted to avoid redundancy.
[0106] The common electrode CE may be disposed between the second base substrate SUB2 and the liquid crystal layer LCL. The common electrode CE may form an electric field with the pixel electrode PE.
[0107] The liquid crystal layer LCL may be disposed between the first substrate PL1 and the second substrate PL2. The liquid crystal layer LCL may include liquid crystal molecules LCM having dielectric anisotropy. The arrangement of the liquid crystal molecules LCM may vary according to an electric field formed between the common electrode CE and the pixel electrode PE.
[0108] The first polarization layer POL1 may be disposed on the top surface or the bottom surface of the first base substrate SUB1. Figure 4 In the embodiment, although it is shown that the first polarizing layer POL1 is arranged between the first base substrate SUB1 and the light source unit 300, the exemplary embodiment of the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, the first polarizing layer POL1 may be arranged between the first base substrate SUB1 and the liquid crystal layer LCL. That is, the first polarizing layer POL1 may be an in-line polarizer.
[0109] The second polarizing layer POL2 may be disposed on the top surface of the second base substrate SUB2. However, this is only an example, and the second polarizing layer POL2 may be disposed between the second base substrate SUB2 and the liquid crystal layer LCL. That is, the second base substrate SUB2 may be an in-line type polarizer.
[0110] The first polarization layer POL1 and the second polarization layer POL2 may be an absorptive polarizer that transmits light oscillating in one direction and absorbs light oscillating in another direction orthogonal to the one direction, or may be a reflective polarizer that transmits light oscillating in one direction and reflects light oscillating in another direction substantially perpendicular to the one direction. The first polarization layer POL1 and the second polarization layer POL2 may be a coated polarization layer or a polarization layer formed by deposition. Moreover, the first polarization layer POL1 and the second polarization layer POL2 may be a polarization member provided in the form of a film.
[0111] The wavelength conversion member 400 may be disposed on the display panel 100. Light passing through the display panel 100 may be incident on the wavelength conversion member 400. The wavelength conversion member 400 may absorb the incident light and may convert the wavelength of the absorbed light.
[0112] The wavelength conversion member 400 may include a third base substrate SUB3, a light shielding part BM, a first wavelength conversion part CCF1, a second wavelength conversion part CCF2, a light transmitting part CCF3, a first color filter layer CF1, a second color filter layer CF2, a cover layer CPL, and a planarization layer PL.
[0113] The third base substrate SUB3 may be an optically transparent insulating substrate. The third base substrate SUB3 may include the same material as the first base substrate SUB1. Therefore, a description thereof will be omitted to avoid redundancy.
[0114] The light shielding part BM may be arranged on one surface of the third base substrate SUB3. The light shielding part BM may include an organic light shielding material containing a black pigment or dye. However, this is only an example, and in another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the light shielding part BM may include an inorganic light shielding material, or in another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the wavelength conversion member 400 may not include the light shielding part BM.
[0115] The first color filter layer CF1 may be disposed on one surface of the third base substrate SUB3 that plane overlaps with the first pixel area PEA1, and the second color filter layer CF2 may be disposed on one surface of the third base substrate SUB3 that plane overlaps with the second pixel area PEA2. The expression "plane overlap" may refer to overlap in a thickness direction of the display panel 100. The thickness direction may be a direction perpendicular to the display surface.
[0116] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first color filter layer CF1 may be a red color filter layer, and the second color filter layer CF2 may be a green color filter layer. However, this is only an example, and in other exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the first color filter layer CF1 and the second color filter layer CF2 may be a yellow color filter layer or other color filter layers. Moreover, in another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the wavelength conversion member 400 may not include the first color filter layer CF1 and the second color filter layer CF2.
[0117] The first wavelength conversion part CCF1 may be arranged under the first color filter layer CF1, and the second wavelength conversion part CCF2 may be arranged under the second color filter layer CF2. The first wavelength conversion part CCF1 may overlap with the first pixel area PEA1 in a plane, and the second wavelength conversion part CCF2 may overlap with the second pixel area PEA2 in a plane. The light-transmitting part CCF3 may be arranged in a region overlapping with the third pixel area PEA3 in a plane.
[0118] The first wavelength conversion part CCF1 may include a base resin BR and a first luminescent material EP1, and the second wavelength conversion part CCF2 may include a base resin BR and a second luminescent material EP2. The light-transmitting part CCF3 may not include a luminescent material. The light-transmitting part CCF3 may transmit light provided from the light source unit 300 without any conversion. The light-transmitting part CCF3 may include a base resin BBR and scattering particles SP.
[0119] The base resin BR and BBR may be polymer resins. For example, the base resin BR and BBR may be acrylic resins, urethane resins, silicone resins, or epoxy resins. The base resin BR and BBR may be transparent resins. The first luminescent material EP1 may be dispersed in the base resin BR of the first wavelength conversion part CCF1, and the second luminescent material EP2 may be dispersed in the base resin BR of the second wavelength conversion part CCF2. In another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a blue dye may also be dispersed in the base resin BBR.
[0120] The first light emitting material EP1 may emit a first color light, for example, red light, by absorbing at least one of the first light L1 and the second light L2. The second light emitting material EP2 may emit a second color light, for example, green light, by absorbing at least one of the first light L1 and the second light L2. The first pixel area PEA1 may display the first color light through the first wavelength conversion part CCF1, and the second pixel area PEA2 may display the second color light through the second wavelength conversion part CCF2. The third pixel area PEA3 may display a third color light. For example, the first color light may be red light, and the second color light may be green light. The third color light may be light provided from the light source unit 300, and may be blue light.
[0121] The first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2 may include a material that absorbs light and converts its wavelength to emit light having the converted wavelength. For example, the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2 may be quantum dots.
[0122] The quantum dots may be selected from Group II-VI compounds, Group III-V compounds, Group IV-VI compounds, Group IV elements, Group IV compounds, and combinations thereof.
[0123] The II-VI compound may be selected from the group consisting of CdSe, CdTe, ZnS, ZnSe, ZnTe, ZnO, HgS, HgSe, HgTe, MgSe, MgS and mixtures thereof, CdSeS, CdSeTe, CdSTe, ZnSeS, ZnSeTe, ZnSTe, HgSeS, HgSeTe, HgSTe, CdZnS, CdZnSe, CdZnTe, CdHgS, CdHg A group consisting of a ternary compound selected from the group consisting of Se, CdHgTe, HgZnS, HgZnSe, HgZnTe, MgZnSe, MgZnS and a mixture thereof, and a group consisting of a quaternary compound selected from the group consisting of HgZnTeS, CdZnSeS, CdZnSeTe, CdZnSTe, CdHgSeS, CdHgSeTe, CdHgSTe, HgZnSeS, HgZnSeTe, HgZnSTe and a mixture thereof.
[0124] The III-V compounds can be selected from a binary compound selected from the group consisting of GaN, GaP, GaAs, GaSb, AlN, AlP, AlAs, AlSb, InN, InP, InAs, InSb and a mixture thereof, a ternary compound selected from the group consisting of GaNP, GaNAs, GaNSb, GaPAs, GaPSb, AlNP, AlNAs, AlNSb, AlPAs, AlPSb, InNP, InNAs, InNSb, InPAs, InPSb and a mixture thereof, and a quaternary compound selected from the group consisting of GaAlNP, GaAlNAs, GaAlNSb, GaAlPAs, GaAlPSb, GaInNP, GaInNAs, GaInNSb, GaInPAs, GaInPSb, InAlNP, InAlNAs, InAlNSb, InAlPAs, InAlPSb and a mixture thereof.
[0125] The IV-VI group compounds can be selected from the group consisting of binary compounds selected from the group consisting of SnS, SnSe, SnTe, PbS, PbSe, PbTe and mixtures thereof, ternary compounds selected from the group consisting of SnSeS, SnSeTe, SnSTe, PbSeS, PbSeTe, PbSTe, SnPbS, SnPbSe, SnPbTe and mixtures thereof, and quaternary compounds selected from the group consisting of SnPbSSe, SnPbSeTe, SnPbSTe and mixtures thereof.
[0126] The group IV element may be selected from the group consisting of silicon (Si), germanium (Ge) and mixtures thereof, and the group IV compound may be a binary compound selected from the group consisting of SiC, SiGe and mixtures thereof. In this case, the binary compound, ternary compound or quaternary compound may exist in the particles at a uniform concentration, or may exist in the same particle while being divided into a state in which the concentration distribution is partially different.
[0127] The quantum dot may have a core-shell structure including a core and a shell surrounding the core. Also, the quantum dot may have a core-shell structure in which one quantum dot surrounds another quantum dot. The interface between the core and the shell may have a concentration gradient in which the concentration of the element present in the shell gradually decreases toward the center.
[0128] The quantum dot may be a particle having a nanometer-scale size. The quantum dot may have a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of an emission wavelength spectrum of about 45 nm or less, specifically about 40 nm or less, more specifically about 30 nm or less, and color purity or color reproducibility may be improved within this range. Moreover, the light emitted by the quantum dot is emitted in all directions (360 degrees), and thus the light viewing angle may be improved.
[0129] In addition, the quantum dots may be in the form of spherical, pyramidal, multi-arm or cubic nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanowires, nanofibers or nanosheet particles. However, this is only an example, and the exemplary embodiments of the present invention are not limited thereto.
[0130] The color of light emitted by quantum dots may change according to the particle size of the luminescent material. Therefore, the particle size of the first luminescent material EP1 and the particle size of the second luminescent material EP2 may be different from each other. For example, the particle size of the first luminescent material EP1 may be larger than the particle size of the second luminescent material EP2. In this case, the first luminescent material EP1 may emit light having a longer wavelength than the second luminescent material EP2.
[0131] The first color filter layer CF1 may absorb light that has not been converted by the first light emitting material EP1 from the light that has passed through the first wavelength conversion part CCF1, and the second color filter layer CF2 may absorb light that has not been converted by the second light emitting material EP2 from the light that has passed through the second wavelength conversion part CCF2. Moreover, the first color filter layer CF1 and the second color filter layer CF2 may also be used to prevent external light from being incident on the first wavelength conversion part CCF1 and the second wavelength conversion part CCF2.
[0132] In the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2, since the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2 absorb light and then emit light in all directions (360 degrees), the viewing angle of light emitted from the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 can be improved. Therefore, scattering particles SP may be provided to make the forward brightness and lateral brightness of the light emitted from the third pixel area PEA3 uniform. However, in another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the scattering particles SP may be omitted.
[0133] The cover layer CPL may cover the first wavelength conversion part CCF1, the second wavelength conversion part CCF2 and the light transmitting part CCF3. The cover layer CPL may have a single layer or multilayer structure configured to include an inorganic layer, or may have a multilayer structure configured to include an inorganic layer and an organic layer. The inorganic layer may include silicon nitride or silicon oxide.
[0134] The planarization layer PL may be disposed under the capping layer CPL. The planarization layer PL may include an organic material.
[0135] In another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the second base substrate SUB2 may be omitted. In this case, the second polarizing layer POL2 may be provided to the planarizing layer PL. For example, the second polarizing layer POL2 may be provided to the planarizing layer PL by a patterning method (e.g., a nanoimprint method). Moreover, the common electrode CE may be arranged under the second polarizing layer POL2.
[0136] Figure 5 shows the absorption spectra of the first luminescent material EP1 and the second luminescent material EP2, and Figure 6 is a graph showing the photoluminescence intensity of the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2 according to the wavelength of light. Figure 5 and Figure 6 In this study, the light absorbance and photoluminescence intensity of cadmium (Cd)-based quantum dots were measured according to wavelength.
[0137] Figure 5 The first spectrum AG-R shows that the first luminescent material EP1 (see Figure 4 )'s absorption spectrum, and Figure 5 The second spectrum AG-G shows that the second luminescent material EP2 (see Figure 4 )’s absorption spectrum. Figure 6 A first graph IG-R shows the photoluminescence intensity of the first luminescent material EP1 according to the wavelength of light emitted from the light source, and Figure 6 The second graph IG-G shows the photoluminescence intensity of the second luminescent material EP2 according to the wavelength of light emitted from the light source.
[0138] Reference Figure 5 The first spectrum AG-R and the second spectrum AG-G of the first luminescent material EP1 and the second luminescent material EP2 have a trend in a specific wavelength range in which light with a shorter wavelength (e.g., 380 nm) generally has a higher light absorption rate. For example, the light absorption rate for a wavelength of 400 nm may be higher than the light absorption rate for a wavelength of 450 nm. Light with a higher light absorption rate generally has an improved light conversion efficiency. Therefore, the light conversion efficiency in a short wavelength range may be higher than the light conversion efficiency in a long wavelength range.
[0139] Figure 6 The first graph IG-R and the second graph IG-G are graphs based on the photoluminescence intensity from the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2 when light having a wavelength of about 405 nm is incident on the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2. For example, when light having a wavelength of about 405 nm is incident on the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2, the photoluminescence intensity from each of the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2 is represented as 100%, and the photoluminescence intensity when light having another wavelength is incident is represented as a relative value. The first graph IG-R and the second graph IG-G show a tendency that the longer the wavelength, the lower the photoluminescence intensity may be. This tendency is similar to the absorptivity of light.
[0140] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first light L1 (see Figure 2 ) can be determined according to applicable product specifications. For example, the peak wavelength of the first light L1 can be determined by considering the color coordinates of the pixel PX. Figure 2 ) can be determined by considering the light absorption rate and photoluminescence intensity of the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2. For example, the peak wavelength of the second light L2 may be smaller than the peak wavelength of the first light L1. Therefore, the display device 1000 (see Figure 1 ) may have a first light source 301 (see Figure 2 ) and a second light source 302 (see Figure 2 ) of the light source unit 300 (see Figure 2 ) while improving both color reproducibility and luminous efficiency.
[0141] Figure 7 is a schematic diagram for describing a driving method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0142] Reference Figure 7 , showing a display panel 100 (see Figure 4 ) and wavelength conversion member 400 (see Figure 4 As some configurations of the display panel 100, the first liquid crystal portion LCL1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2, and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 are shown, and as some configurations of the wavelength converting member 400, the first wavelength converting portion CCF1, the second wavelength converting portion CCF2, and the light transmitting portion CCF3 are shown.
[0143] Liquid crystal layer LCL (see Figure 4 ) may include a first liquid crystal portion LCL1, a second liquid crystal portion LCL2, and a third liquid crystal portion LCL3. The first liquid crystal portion LCL1 is included in the first pixel area PEA1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 is included in the second pixel area PEA2, and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 is included in the third pixel area PEA3.
[0144] The first liquid crystal portion LCL1 , the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 , and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 may adjust the transmittance of the first light L1 and the second light L2 provided from the light source unit 300 .
[0145] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first light source 301 and the second light source 302 may emit light simultaneously. Therefore, the first liquid crystal portion LCL1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2, and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 may adjust the transmittance of the first light L1 and the second light L2.
[0146] In the case of displaying a white image, the first, second and third liquid crystal parts LCL1, LCL2 and LCL3 may transmit the first and second lights L1 and L2. Therefore, all of the first, second and third pixel areas PEA1, PEA2 and PEA3 may display light.
[0147] The first wavelength conversion portion CCF1 may absorb the first light L1 and the second light L2, and may convert the first light L1 and the second light L2 into the first color light CL1. The peak wavelength of the first color light CL1 may have a value within the wavelength range of red light. For example, the peak wavelength of the first color light CL1 may have a value of about 620 nm or more to about 780 nm or less.
[0148] The second wavelength conversion portion CCF2 may absorb the first light L1 and the second light L2, and may convert the first light L1 and the second light L2 into the second color light CL2. The peak wavelength of the second color light CL2 may have a value within the wavelength range of green light. For example, the peak wavelength of the second color light CL2 may have a value of about 501 nm or more to about 580 nm or less.
[0149] The light-transmitting portion CCF3 may emit third color light CL3 by transmitting the first light L1 and the second light L2. The third color light CL3 includes the first light L1 and the second light L2, and may be blue light.
[0150] The first pixel area PEA1 may display the first color light CL1, the second pixel area PEA2 may display the second color light CL2, and the third pixel area PEA3 may display the third color light CL3.
[0151] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, since both the first light source 301 and the second light source 302 emit light, the Figure 1 A light source driver 240 is provided.
[0152] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the intensity of the first light L1 and the intensity of the second light L2 may be equal to each other. However, the exemplary embodiment of the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, in another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the intensity of the first light L1 may be greater than the intensity of the second light L2. In this case, the intensity of the first light L1 included in the third color light CL3 is greater than the intensity of the second light L2. That is, since the intensity of the first light L1 determined by considering the color coordinates is greater than the intensity of the second light L2, the reduction in the color purity of the third color light CL3 can be mitigated.
[0153] Figure 8 is a schematic diagram for describing a time-division driving method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0154] Reference Figure 8 , the display panel 100 (see Figure 1 ) can display an image on a frame-by-frame basis. One frame FR may include a first subframe SFR1 and a second subframe SFR2 as separate time divisions of the frame FR.
[0155] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the light source driver 240 (see Figure 1 ) can be obtained from the signal controller 210 (see Figure 1 ) receives the third control signal CS3 (see Figure 1 ), and may alternately turn on the first light source 301 and the second light source 302 in response to the third control signal CS3. The first light source 301 may emit light during the first subframe SFR1, and the second light source 302 may emit light during the second subframe SFR2.
[0156] The third liquid crystal portion LCL3 may be synchronized with the first light source 301 to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules, and the first liquid crystal portion LCL1 and the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 may be synchronized with the second light source 302 to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules. For example, when the first light source 301 is turned on, the first liquid crystal portion LCL1 and the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 may block the light provided from the light source unit 300. Therefore, during the first subframe SFR1, the display panel 100 (see Figure 1 ) may display an image only through the third pixel area PEA3. Furthermore, since display of light is blocked in the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2, an image may not be displayed through the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2. In addition, when the second light source 302 is turned on, the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 may block light provided from the light source unit 300. Therefore, during the second subframe SFR2, the display panel 100 may display an image only through the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2. Furthermore, since display of light is blocked in the third pixel area PEA3, an image may not be displayed through the third pixel area PEA3. Accordingly, an image of one frame FR may be provided, wherein, in the image of the one frame, an image displayed during the first subframe SFR1 is combined with an image displayed during the second subframe SFR2.
[0157] In the case of displaying a white image, all of the first pixel area PEA1, the second pixel area PEA2, and the third pixel area PEA3 may display light. During the first subframe SFR1, the third pixel area PEA3 displays the third color light CL3. Since the first liquid crystal portion LCL1 and the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 block the light provided from the light source unit 300 during the first subframe SFR1, the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may not display the first color light CL1 and the second color light CL2. During the second subframe SFR2, the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may display the first color light CL1 and the second color light CL2. Since the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 blocks the light provided from the light source unit 300 during the second subframe SFR2, the third pixel area PEA3 may not display the third color light CL3.
[0158] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the third pixel area PEA3 may display light by adjusting the transmission amount of the first light L1 during the first subframe SFR1. Moreover, the third pixel area PEA3 may block the display of the third color light CL3 during the second subframe SFR2. Therefore, the display of the second light L2 through the third pixel area PEA3 may be prevented. That is, the third color light CL3 may include the first light L1. Therefore, the color purity of the third color light CL3 may be increased, and thus, the color reproducibility may be improved.
[0159] Moreover, during the second subframe SFR2, the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may display light by adjusting the transmittance of the second light L2. When the second light L2 passes through the first liquid crystal portion LCL1 and the second liquid crystal portion LCL2, the second light L2 is incident on the first wavelength conversion portion CCF1 and the second wavelength conversion portion CCF2. The first wavelength conversion portion CCF1 may emit the first color light CL1 by absorbing the second light L2, and the second wavelength conversion portion CCF2 may emit the second color light CL2 by absorbing the second light L2. Since the second light L2 has a shorter wavelength than the first light L1, the light absorption rate and light conversion efficiency of the luminescent material in the first wavelength conversion portion CCF1 and the second wavelength conversion portion CCF2 may be improved. Therefore, the luminous efficiency of the light displayed in the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may be improved.
[0160] Fig. 9 is a schematic diagram for describing a time-division driving method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 9 In Figure 8 The different points are described in detail.
[0161] Reference Fig. 9 , the first liquid crystal portion LCL1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2, and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 may be synchronized with the first light source 301 to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules, and the first liquid crystal portion LCL1 and the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 may be synchronized with the second light source 302 to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules.
[0162] In the first subframe SFR1 in which the first light source 301 is turned on, the first pixel area PEA1, the second pixel area PEA2, and the third pixel area PEA3 may display light by adjusting the transmittance of the first light L1. That is, in both the first subframe SFR1 and the second subframe SFR2, the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may display light. Therefore, the luminous efficiency of the light displayed in the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may be improved.
[0163] Fig. 10ATransmission spectra of a first color filter and a second color filter according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention are shown. Fig. 10B is a schematic diagram for describing a time-division driving method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 10A and Fig. 10B In Figure 8 The different points are described in detail.
[0164] Reference Fig. 10A , the first spectrum CFR is the first color filter layer CF1 (see Figure 4 ) and the second spectrum CFG is the transmission spectrum of the second color filter layer CF2 (see Figure 4 )’s transmission spectrum.
[0165] The third spectrum L1-1, the fourth spectrum L2-1, the fifth spectrum CL1-1, and the sixth spectrum CL2-1 indicated by dotted lines each show the spectrum of each light for convenience of explanation. The third spectrum L1-1 is the spectrum of the first light L1, the fourth spectrum L2-1 is the spectrum of the second light L2, the fifth spectrum CL1-1 is the spectrum of the first color light CL1, and the sixth spectrum CL2-1 is the spectrum of the second color light CL2. The first color light CL1 and the second color light CL2 have longer wavelengths than the first light L1 and the second light L2, and the first color light CL1 has a longer wavelength than the second color light CL2.
[0166] The first color filter layer CF1 transmits most of the first color light CL1, and the second color filter layer CF2 transmits most of the second color light CL2. According to the second spectrum CFG, the graph shows that the second color filter layer CF2 can transmit not only the second color light CL2, but also a portion of the first light L1. Therefore, at least a portion of the first light L1 that is not converted by the second wavelength converter CCF2 can pass through the second color filter layer CF2.
[0167] Reference Fig. 10B , the first liquid crystal portion LCL1 and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 may be synchronized with the first light source 301 to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules, and the first liquid crystal portion LCL1 and the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 may be synchronized with the second light source 302 to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules.
[0168] In the first subframe SFR1 in which the first light source 301 is turned on, the first pixel area PEA1 and the third pixel area PEA3 may display light by adjusting the transmittance of the first light L1. That is, the first pixel area PEA1 may display light in both the first subframe SFR1 and the second subframe SFR2, the second pixel area PEA2 may display light in the second subframe SFR2, and the third pixel area PEA3 may display light in the first subframe SFR1.
[0169] That is, when the first light source 301 emits the first light L1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 may block the first light L1 provided from the first light source 301. Therefore, during the first subframe SFR1, the first light L1 is not provided to the second color filter layer CF2. Therefore, a phenomenon in which the first light L1 is transmitted through the second color filter layer CF2 may be prevented. Therefore, the color purity of the second color light CL2 displayed in the second pixel area PEA2 in one frame may be increased, and thus, color reproducibility may be improved.
[0170] Fig.11 is a schematic diagram for describing a time-division driving method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0171] Reference Fig.11 , the display panel 100 (see Figure 1 ) may display an image on a frame-by-frame basis. One frame FR may include a first subframe SFR1, a second subframe SFR2, and a third subframe SFR3 as separate time divisions of the frame FR.
[0172] The first light source 301 may emit light during the first subframe SFR1 , and the second light source 302 may emit light during the second subframe SFR2 and the third subframe SFR3 .
[0173] The image displayed during the first subframe SFR1 is an image provided by the third pixel area PEA3, the image displayed during the second subframe SFR2 is an image provided by the first pixel area PEA1, and the image displayed during the third subframe SFR3 is an image provided by the second pixel area PEA2. A user may recognize a combination of images provided during the first subframe SFR1, the second subframe SFR2, and the third subframe SFR3.
[0174] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, since the timing of displaying light in each pixel area is separated, the color purity of the light displayed in each pixel area can be improved, and therefore, the color reproducibility can be improved. Moreover, since the light source unit 300 is time-division driven according to each pixel area, power consumption can be reduced.
[0175] Fig.12 is a schematic diagram for describing a time-division driving method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig.12 In Figure 8 The different points are described in detail.
[0176] The first light source 301 may emit light in both the first subframe SFR1 and the second subframe SFR2 , and the second light source 302 may emit light during the second subframe SFR2 .
[0177] During the first subframe SFR1, the first liquid crystal portion LCL1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2, and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 of the first pixel area PEA1, the second pixel area PEA2, and the third pixel area PEA3 display light by adjusting the transmission amount of the first light L1. During the second subframe SFR2, the first liquid crystal portion LCL1 and the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 display light by adjusting the transmission amount of the first light L1 and the second light L2. During the second subframe SFR2, the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 blocks the first light L1 and the second light L2. That is, the third color light CL3 is not displayed in the third pixel area PEA3 during the second subframe SFR2.
[0178] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, since both the first light L1 and the second light L2 are provided during the second subframe SFR2, the luminous efficiency of the light emitted from the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 can be improved. Also, since the second light L2 is not provided during the first subframe SFR1 in which the light is displayed in the third pixel area PEA3, the color purity of the third color light CL3 can be improved. Therefore, a display device 1000a having both improved luminous efficiency and color purity can be provided.
[0179] Fig.13 is a cross-sectional view showing a display device according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Fig.13 The same reference numerals are given to Figure 4 The same elements as those described in and their description will be omitted to avoid redundancy.
[0180] Reference Fig.13 , shows a display panel 100a, a light source unit 300, and a wavelength conversion member 400a of a display device 1000a.
[0181] The display panel 100 a may include a first substrate PL1 a , a second substrate PL2 , a liquid crystal layer LCL disposed between the first substrate PL1 a and the second substrate PL2 , a first polarizing layer POL1 , and a second polarizing layer POL2 .
[0182] The first substrate PL1a may include a first base substrate SUB1, a circuit layer CL, a pixel electrode PE, an insulating layer IL, and a color filter layer CF. The color filter layer CF may include a first color filter layer CF1 arranged in the first pixel area PEA1, a second color filter layer CF2 arranged in the second pixel area PEA2, and a third color filter layer CF3 arranged in the third pixel area PEA3. In another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first color filter layer CF1, the second color filter layer CF2, and the third color filter layer CF3 may be included in the second substrate PL2. In this case, the first color filter layer CF1, the second color filter layer CF2, and the third color filter layer CF3 may be arranged between the second base substrate SUB2 and the common electrode CE.
[0183] The wavelength conversion member 400a may be arranged below the display panel 100a. The wavelength conversion member 400a may include a first luminescent material EP1 and a second luminescent material EP2. The first luminescent material EP1 and the second luminescent material EP2 may be materials that absorb light having a predetermined wavelength and convert the wavelength of the absorbed light. For example, the first luminescent material EP1 and the second luminescent material EP2 may be quantum dots.
[0184] The light source unit 300 may provide at least one of the first light L1 and the second light L2 to the wavelength conversion member 400a. The first light emitting material EP1 may emit the first color light by absorbing at least one of the first light L1 and the second light L2. The second light emitting material EP2 may emit the second color light by absorbing at least one of the first light L1 and the second light L2. Moreover, the light not absorbed by the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2 may pass through the wavelength conversion member 400a.
[0185] The first light L1 may be blue light having a first peak wavelength, and the second light L2 may be blue light having a second peak wavelength. The first peak wavelength may be longer than the second peak wavelength. The first color light may be red light, and the second color light may be green light.
[0186] The first color filter layer CF1 may transmit the first color light, the second color filter layer CF2 may transmit the second color light, and the third color filter layer CF3 may transmit the blue light (eg, the first light L1 or the second light L2).
[0187] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first light L1 may be determined according to applicable product specifications. For example, the peak wavelength of the first light L1 may be determined by considering color coordinates, and therefore, the third pixel area PEA3 may display the first light L1. Therefore, the color purity of the light displayed in the third pixel area PEA3 may be improved. Moreover, the peak wavelength of the second light L2 may be determined to be a value smaller than the peak wavelength of the first light L1. Therefore, the light absorption rate and light conversion efficiency of the first light-emitting material EP1 and the second light-emitting material EP2 may be improved. Therefore, the luminous efficiency of the light displayed in the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may be improved. Therefore, a display device 1000 having both improved luminous efficiency and color purity may be provided (see Figure 1 ).
[0188] Fig.14 is a schematic diagram for describing a driving method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0189] Reference Fig.13 and Fig.14 , showing a display panel 100a (see Fig.13 According to an exemplary embodiment, the display panel 100a may include a first liquid crystal portion LCL1, a second liquid crystal portion LCL2, a third liquid crystal portion LCL3, a first color filter layer CF1, a second color filter layer CF2, and a third color filter layer CF3.
[0190] The first liquid crystal portion LCL1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2, and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 can adjust the transmission amount of incident light (e.g., the first light L1, the second light L2, the first color light CL1, and the second color light CL2). The first color filter layer CF1, the second color filter layer CF2, and the third color filter layer CF3 can transmit light having a predetermined wavelength among the incident light.
[0191] Fig.14 It is exemplarily shown that the light passing through the first color filter layer CF1, the second color filter layer CF2 and the third color filter layer CF3 is incident on the first liquid crystal portion LCL1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3, respectively. However, in another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a structure may be provided in which the light passing through the first liquid crystal portion LCL1, the second liquid crystal portion LCL2 and the third liquid crystal portion LCL3 is incident on the first color filter layer CF1, the second color filter layer CF2 and the third color filter layer CF3, respectively.
[0192] In an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the first light source 301 and the second light source 302 may emit light at the same time. Therefore, the first light L1 and the second light L2 may be incident on the wavelength conversion member 400a at the same time. Since both the first light source 301 and the second light source 302 emit light, the wavelength conversion member 400a may be omitted. Figure 1A light source driver 240 is provided.
[0193] The peak wavelengths of the first light L1 and the second light L2 may have values of about 365 nm or more to about 500 nm or less, the first peak wavelength of the first light L1 may be in the range of about 450 nm or more to about 500 nm or less, and the second peak wavelength of the second light L2 may be in the range of about 365 nm or more to less than the first peak wavelength.
[0194] A portion of the first light L1 and the second light L2 may be converted into the first color light CL1 by the first luminescent material EP1 of the wavelength conversion member 400a, and another portion of the first light L1 and the second light L2 may be converted into the second color light CL2 by the second luminescent material EP2 of the wavelength conversion member 400a. Furthermore, another portion of the first light L1 and the second light L2 may be transmitted through the wavelength conversion member 400a.
[0195] Therefore, the wavelength conversion member 400a can provide the first light L1, the second light L2, the first color light CL1 and the second color light CL2 to the display panel 100a. The first color filter layer CF1 can transmit the first color light CL1 and can absorb the first light L1, the second light L2 and the second color light CL2. The second color filter layer CF2 can transmit the second color light CL2 and can absorb the first light L1, the second light L2 and the first color light CL1. The third color filter layer CF3 can transmit the first light L1 and the second light L2 and can absorb the first color light CL1 and the second color light CL2.
[0196] Fig.15 is a schematic diagram for describing a time-division driving method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0197] refer to Fig.13 and Fig.15 , the display panel 100a (see Fig.13 ) may display an image on a frame-by-frame basis. One frame FR may include a first subframe SFR1 and a second subframe SFR2 as separate time divisions of the frame FR. The first light source 301 may emit light during the first subframe SFR1, and the second light source 302 may emit light during the second subframe SFR2.
[0198] The wavelength conversion member 400a may provide the display panel 100a with first light L1, first color light CL1, and second color light CL2 during the first subframe SFR1 and with second light L2, first color light CL1, and second color light CL2 during the second subframe SFR2.
[0199] The third liquid crystal portion LCL3 may be synchronized with the first light source 301 to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules, and the first and second liquid crystal portions LCL1 and LCL2 may be synchronized with the second light source 302 to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules.
[0200] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the third pixel area PEA3 may display light by adjusting the transmittance of the first light L1 during the first subframe SFR1. Also, the third pixel area PEA3 may block the display of the second light L2 during the second subframe SFR2. That is, the third color light CL3 may include the first light L1. Therefore, the color purity of the third color light CL3 may be increased, and thus, the color reproducibility may be improved.
[0201] Moreover, during the second subframe SFR2, the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may display light by adjusting the transmission amount of the first color light CL1 and the second color light CL2, respectively. The first color light CL1 and the second color light CL2 in the second subframe SFR2 are lights converted from the second light L2. Since the second light L2 has a shorter wavelength than the first light L1, the light absorption rate of the first light emitting material EP1 and the second light emitting material EP2 is high, and therefore, the light conversion efficiency may be improved. Therefore, the optical efficiency of the light displayed in the first pixel area PEA1 and the second pixel area PEA2 may be improved. As an example, by using Fig.15 A time-division drive method as shown in Fig.13 However, previously Fig. 9 , Fig. 10B , Fig.11 and Fig.12 The time-division drive method described in can also be applied to Fig.13 Display device 1000a.
