AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In wireless communication systems, the UE frequently monitors ULCI timing, resulting in an increase in power consumption and affects the UE's ability to send traffic to the base station.

Method used

The UE may selectively monitor the ULCI timing or skip unnecessary ULCI timing based on the scheduling information received from the base station and the time interval of the ULCI timing. The base station may also send ULCI timing at a time corresponding to the selective monitoring of the UE to improve system performance.

Benefits of technology

By selectively monitoring ULCI timing, the UE can reduce power consumption and improve the ability to send traffic to the base station, which can also reduce misalignment transmission and reception of ULCI timing.

Abstract

Provided are aspects that allow a UE to selectively monitor an uplink cancellation indication (ULCI) opportunity and allow the UE to determine, based on the ULCI, whether a canceled uplink transmission is carried on a non-supplementary uplink (NUL) carrier or a supplementary uplink (SUL) carrier. In the case where the UE does not have an uplink transmission that can be punctured by higher priority data, the UE may determine not to monitor the ULCI opportunity. When the uplink transmission is dynamically scheduled, the UE may determine to monitor the ULCI opportunity when the UE receives an uplink grant a certain number of symbols earlier than the ULCI opportunity. The base station may configure a block in the downlink control information to indicate that the UE should apply the ULCI to the SUL and / or NUL. The base station may configure the UE to perform different actions after receiving the ULCI depending on whether the portion of the uplink transmission to be canceled is on the SUL or NUL.

[0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application SN 62 / 845,136, filed on May 8, 2019, entitled “METHODS AND APPARATUS TO SELECTIVELY MONITOR UPLINK PREEMPTIVE INDICATION FOR SUPPLEMENTARY UPLINK AND NON-SUPPLEMENTARY UPLINK CARRIERS,” and U.S. Patent Application No. 16 / 869,490, filed on May 7, 2020, entitled “METHODS AND APPARATUS TO SELECTIVELY MONITOR UPLINKPREEMPTIVE INDICATION FOR SUPPLEMENTARY UPLINK AND NON-SUPPLEMENTARY UPLINK CARRIERS,” both of which are expressly incorporated herein by reference in their entirety. background Technical Field

[0004] The present disclosure relates generally to communication systems, and more particularly to wireless scheduling between a base station and a user equipment (UE).

[0005] introduction

[0006] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various telecommunication services such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcast. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources. Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, and time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems.

[0007] These multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide common protocols that enable different wireless devices to communicate at city, country, region, and even global levels. An example telecommunication standard is 5G New Radio (NR). 5G NR is a part of the continuous mobile broadband evolution promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to meet new requirements associated with latency, reliability, security, scalability (e.g., with the Internet of Things (IoT)) and other requirements. 5GNR includes services associated with enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communication (mMTC), and ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC). Some aspects of 5G NR can be based on 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) standards. There is a need for further improvements to 5G NR technology. These improvements may also be applicable to other multiple access technologies and telecommunication standards that employ these technologies.

[0008] Overview

[0009] A brief summary of one or more aspects is given below to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an exhaustive overview of all conceived aspects, and is neither intended to identify the key or critical elements of all aspects nor to define the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to a more detailed description that will be presented later.

[0010] After a base station schedules resources for use by a UE in, for example, the transmission or reception of enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) data, the base station may be aware of a more urgent, higher priority transmission from another UE (e.g., a latency-sensitive device) requiring ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC). In such a situation, the base station may reclaim resources previously scheduled to a first, lower priority UE for use by a second, higher priority UE. Specifically, if the previously scheduled resources are for downlink transmissions, the base station may send a downlink cancellation indication (DLCI) (or downlink preemption indication) to the first UE in a DLCI opportunity to cancel at least a portion of the downlink transmission to the UE. Similarly, if the previously scheduled resources are for uplink transmissions, the base station may send an uplink cancellation indication (ULCI) (or uplink preemption indication) to the first UE in a ULCI opportunity to cancel at least a portion of the uplink transmission from the UE. The base station may then allocate those reclaimed resources to higher priority, latency-sensitive UEs.

[0011] However, although the UE may monitor DLCI opportunities less frequently because the base station itself prefers URLLC data and cancels parts of the eMBB transmission, the ULCI opportunities may occur more frequently to inform the UE when to cancel parts of its uplink transmission. For example, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunities multiple times per time slot compared to the DLCI opportunities. This frequent monitoring of the ULCI opportunities may impose a greater power consumption burden on the UE and affect the UE's ability to send its own traffic to the base station. The various aspects proposed herein allow the UE to selectively monitor the ULCI opportunities or determine whether to skip monitoring unnecessary ULCI opportunities in order to reduce the power consumption burden of the UE. Similarly, the various aspects proposed herein allow the base station to send ULCI opportunities at times corresponding to the UE's selective monitoring to improve system performance and minimize misaligned transmission and reception of ULCI opportunities.

[0012] The present disclosure provides a solution for power consumption requirements while improving communication between a base station and a UE by providing selective monitoring of ULCI opportunities by a UE and corresponding transmission of ULCI opportunities by a base station. Various aspects may include various rules that may depend on whether a previously scheduled uplink transmission is semi-statically scheduled (e.g., configured via RRC) or dynamically scheduled (e.g., in downlink control information (DCI)). In a first aspect, regardless of whether the uplink transmission is semi-statically or dynamically scheduled, in the case where the UE does not have a previously scheduled uplink transmission that can be punctured by URLLC data or other higher priority data, the UE may determine not to monitor the ULCI opportunity. On the contrary, in the case where the base station previously scheduled an uplink transmission for the UE that may be punctured or canceled by ULCI, the UE may determine to monitor the ULCI opportunity. In a second aspect, when the uplink transmission is dynamically scheduled by an uplink grant, the UE may require some processing time to receive and decode the uplink grant. Therefore, in the case where the UE receives the uplink grant at least a certain number of symbols earlier than the ULCI opportunity associated with the uplink transmission, the UE may determine to monitor the ULCI opportunity.

[0013] In addition, the UE may be configured with two uplink carriers in the same uplink serving cell, namely a supplementary uplink (SUL) carrier and a non-supplementary uplink (NUL) carrier, and the base station may semi-statically or dynamically schedule uplink transmissions on the NUL or SUL. Various aspects presented herein enable the UE to determine whether the UE should apply ULCI to cancel uplink transmissions on the NUL or SUL. For example, the ULCI may indicate whether the uplink transmission to be canceled is carried on the NUL or SUL.

[0014] Various aspects of the present disclosure allow a UE to determine whether an uplink transmission to be canceled is carried on NUL or SUL based on a ULCI received from a base station. The base station may configure a separate block in the DCI to indicate whether the UE should apply the ULCI to SUL or NUL or both. The base station may save signaling overhead by configuring only one block in the DCI to indicate that the UE should apply the ULCI to SUL and NUL, although it is possible that only one of the SUL and NUL includes uplink transmissions. The base station may configure the UE to perform different actions after receiving the ULCI depending on whether the portion of the uplink transmission to be canceled is on SUL or NUL (e.g., stopping the uplink transmission without resuming subsequent uplink transmissions, stopping the uplink transmission and resuming subsequent uplink transmissions, and reducing uplink transmission power).

[0015] In one aspect of the present disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a UE. The apparatus receives scheduling information for uplink transmission from a base station, and determines whether to monitor at least one uplink cancellation indication (ULCI) opportunity based on the scheduling information and based on a time interval between the scheduling information and at least one ULCI opportunity from the base station.

[0016] In another aspect of the present disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a UE. The apparatus receives scheduling information for uplink transmission from a base station, and receives a configuration of at least one block for monitoring uplink cancellation indication (ULCI) opportunities from the base station based on the scheduling information, wherein the ULCI includes a plurality of blocks, and wherein the configuration indicates at least one of a first block corresponding to a SUL carrier in a cell or a second block corresponding to a NUL carrier in the cell.

[0017] In another aspect of the present disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a base station. The apparatus schedules a UE for uplink transmission; determines whether the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity based on the time interval between the scheduling and the ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission; and transmits a ULCI at the ULCI opportunity if the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity, the ULCI canceling at least a portion of the uplink transmission.

[0018] In an additional aspect of the present disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a base station. The apparatus configures a UE to monitor at least one block of a ULCI, wherein the configuration indicates at least one of a first block corresponding to a SUL carrier in a cell or a second block corresponding to a NUL carrier in the cell; and schedules the UE for uplink transmission.

[0051] Figure 1 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a wireless communication system and access network 100. The wireless communication system (also referred to as a wireless wide area network (WWAN)) includes a base station 102, a UE 104, an evolved packet core (EPC) 160, and another core network 190 (e.g., a 5G core (5GC)). The base station 102 may include a macro cell (a high-power cellular base station) and / or a small cell (a low-power cellular base station). A macro cell includes a base station. A small cell includes a femto cell, a pico cell, and a micro cell.

[0052] The base station 102 configured for 4G LTE (collectively referred to as the Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN)) can interface with the EPC 160 via a first backhaul link 132 (e.g., an S1 interface). The base station 102 configured for 5G NR (collectively referred to as the Next Generation RAN (NG-RAN)) can interface with the core network 190 via a second backhaul link 184. Among other functions, the base station 102 can also perform one or more of the following functions: delivery of user data, radio channel encryption and decryption, integrity protection, header compression, mobility control functions (e.g., handover, dual connectivity), inter-cell interference coordination, connection establishment and release, load balancing, distribution of non-access stratum (NAS) messages, NAS node selection, synchronization, radio access network (RAN) sharing, multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS), subscriber and equipment tracking, RAN information management (RIM), paging, positioning, and delivery of alert messages. The base stations 102 may communicate with each other directly or indirectly (eg, through the EPC 160 or the core network 190) over a third backhaul link 134 (eg, an X2 interface). The first backhaul link 132, the second backhaul link 184, and the third backhaul link 134 may be wired or wireless.

[0053] Base stations 102 may communicate wirelessly with UE 104. Each base station 102 may provide communication coverage for a corresponding geographic coverage area 110. There may be overlapping geographic coverage areas 110. For example, a small cell 102' may have a coverage area 110' that overlaps with the coverage area 110 of one or more macro base stations 102. A network including both small cells and macro cells may be referred to as a heterogeneous network. A heterogeneous network may also include a home evolved B node (eNB) (HeNB), which may provide services to a restricted group referred to as a closed subscriber group (CSG). A communication link 120 between a base station 102 and a UE 104 may include an uplink (UL) (also referred to as a reverse link) transmission from the UE 104 to the base station 102 and / or a downlink (DL) (also referred to as a forward link) transmission from the base station 102 to the UE 104. The communication link 120 may use multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming and / or transmit diversity. These communication links may be through one or more carriers. The base station 102 / UE 104 may use spectrum of up to Y MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400 MHz, etc.) bandwidth for each carrier allocated in the carrier aggregation for a total of up to Yx MHz (x component carriers) for transmission in each direction. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other. The allocation of carriers may be asymmetric with respect to DL and UL (e.g., more or fewer carriers may be allocated to DL compared to UL). The component carriers may include a primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers. The primary component carrier may be referred to as a primary cell (PCell) and the secondary component carrier may be referred to as a secondary cell (SCell).

[0054] Some UEs 104 may communicate with each other using a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 158. The D2D communication link 158 may use DL / UL WWAN spectrum. The D2D communication link 158 may use one or more sidelink channels, such as a physical sidelink broadcast channel (PSBCH), a physical sidelink discovery channel (PSDCH), a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH), and a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH). The D2D communication may be through a variety of wireless D2D communication systems, such as, for example, WiMedia, Bluetooth, ZigBee, Wi-Fi based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 standard, LTE, or NR.

[0055] The wireless communication system may further include a Wi-Fi access point (AP) 150 communicating with a Wi-Fi station (STA) 152 in the 5 GHz unlicensed spectrum via a communication link 154. When communicating in the unlicensed spectrum, the STA 152 / AP 150 may perform a clear channel assessment (CCA) prior to communication to determine whether the channel is available.

[0056] The small cell 102' may operate in a licensed and / or unlicensed spectrum. When operating in an unlicensed spectrum, the small cell 102' may employ NR and use the same 5 GHz unlicensed spectrum as used by the Wi-Fi AP 150. The small cell 102' employing NR in the unlicensed spectrum may boost the coverage of the access network and / or increase the capacity of the access network.

[0057] Whether a small cell 102' or a large cell (e.g., a macro base station), the base station 102 may include and / or be referred to as an eNB, a gB node (gNB), or another type of base station. Some base stations (such as gNB180) may operate in traditional sub-6 GHz spectrum, millimeter wave (mmW) frequencies, and / or near mmW frequencies to communicate with UE 104. When gNB 180 operates in mmW or near mmW frequencies, gNB 180 may be referred to as a mmW base station. Extremely high frequency (EHF) is part of the RF in the electromagnetic spectrum. EHF has a range of 30 GHz to 300 GHz and a wavelength between 1 mm and 10 mm. The radio waves in this band may be referred to as millimeter waves. Near mmW can be extended down to 3 GHz frequencies with a wavelength of 100 mm. The super high frequency (SHF) band extends between 3 GHz and 30 GHz, which is also referred to as centimeter waves. Communications using mmW / near mmW radio frequency (RF) bands (e.g., 3 GHz–300 GHz) have extremely high path loss and short range. The mmW base station 180 may utilize beamforming 182 with the UE 104 to compensate for the extremely high path loss and short range. The base station 180 and the UE 104 may each include multiple antennas, such as antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays to facilitate beamforming.

[0058] Base station 180 may transmit beamformed signals to UE 104 in one or more transmit directions 182'. UE 104 may receive beamformed signals from base station 180 in one or more receive directions 182". UE 104 may also transmit beamformed signals to base station 180 in one or more transmit directions. Base station 180 may receive beamformed signals from UE 104 in one or more receive directions. Base station 180 / UE 104 may perform beam training to determine the best receive direction and transmit direction for each of base station 180 / UE 104. The transmit direction and receive direction of base station 180 may be the same or may be different. The transmit direction and receive direction of UE 104 may be the same or may be different.

[0059] The EPC 160 may include a mobility management entity (MME) 162, other MMEs 164, a serving gateway 166, a multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) gateway 168, a broadcast multicast service center (BM-SC) 170, and a packet data network (PDN) gateway 172. The MME 162 may be in communication with a home subscriber server (HSS) 174. The MME 162 is a control node that handles signaling between the UE 104 and the EPC 160. In general, the MME 162 provides bearer and connection management. All user Internet Protocol (IP) packets are delivered through the serving gateway 166, which itself is connected to the PDN gateway 172. The PDN gateway 172 provides UE IP address allocation and other functions. The PDN gateway 172 and the BM-SC 170 are connected to IP services 176. The IP services 176 may include the Internet, an intranet, an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), a PS streaming service, and / or other IP services. The BM-SC 170 may provide functionality for MBMS user service provisioning and delivery. The BM-SC 170 may serve as an entry point for content provider MBMS transmissions, may be used to authorize and initiate MBMS bearer services within a public land mobile network (PLMN), and may be used to schedule MBMS transmissions. The MBMS gateway 168 may be used to distribute MBMS traffic to base stations 102 belonging to a multicast broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN) area that broadcasts a specific service, and may be responsible for session management (start / stop) and for collecting eMBMS-related charging information.

[0060] The core network 190 may include an access and mobility management function (AMF) 192, other AMFs 193, a session management function (SMF) 194, and a user plane function (UPF) 195. The AMF 192 may be in communication with a unified data management (UDM) 196. The AMF 192 is a control node that handles signaling between the UE 104 and the core network 190. In general, the AMF 192 provides QoS flow and session management. All user Internet Protocol (IP) packets are delivered through the UPF 195. The UPF 195 provides UE IP address allocation and other functions. The UPF 195 is connected to an IP service 197. The IP service 197 may include the Internet, an intranet, an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), a packet switching (PS) streaming (PSS) service, and / or other IP services.

[0061] A base station may include and / or be referred to as a gNB, a Node B, an eNB, an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS), an extended service set (ESS), a transmission reception point (TRP), or some other suitable term. The base station 102 provides an access point to the EPC 160 or the core network 190 for the UE 104. Examples of UE 104 include a cellular phone, a smart phone, a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) phone, a laptop, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a satellite radio, a global positioning system, a multimedia device, a video device, a digital audio player (e.g., an MP3 player), a camera, a game console, a tablet device, a smart device, a wearable device, a vehicle, an electric meter, a gas pump, a large or small kitchen appliance, a health care device, an implant, a sensor / actuator, a display, or any other similar functional device. Some UEs 104 may be referred to as IoT devices (e.g., parking meters, gas pumps, ovens, vehicles, heart monitors, etc.). UE 104 may also be referred to as a station, a mobile station, a subscriber station, a mobile unit, a subscriber unit, a wireless unit, a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a wireless communication device, a remote device, a mobile subscriber station, an access terminal, a mobile terminal, a wireless terminal, a remote terminal, a handset, a user agent, a mobile client, a client, or some other suitable terminology.

[0062] Reference again Figure 1In certain aspects, the UE 104 may include a ULCI monitoring determination component 198 configured to: receive scheduling information for uplink transmissions from a base station; and determine whether to monitor at least one ULCI opportunity based on the scheduling information and based on a time interval between the scheduling information and the ULCI opportunity from the base station. The ULCI monitoring determination component 198 may also be configured to: receive scheduling information for uplink transmissions from a base station, determine whether to monitor at least one ULCI opportunity from the base station based on the scheduling information, wherein the ULCI includes a plurality of blocks, and receive a configuration for monitoring at least one block of the ULCI, wherein the configuration indicates at least one of a first block corresponding to a SUL carrier in a cell or a second block corresponding to a NUL carrier in the cell.

The 5G / NR frame structure can be frequency division duplex (FDD), where for a particular set of subcarriers (carrier system bandwidth), subframes within that subcarrier set are dedicated to either DL or UL; or can be time division duplex (TDD), where for a particular set of subcarriers (carrier system bandwidth), subframes within that subcarrier set are dedicated to both DL and UL. Figure 2A , 2C In the example provided, the 5G / NR frame structure is assumed to be TDD, where subframe 4 is configured with slot format 28 (mostly DL) and subframe 3 is configured with slot format 34 (mostly UL), where D is DL, U is UL, and F is for flexible use between DL / UL. Although subframes 3 and 4 are shown as having slot formats 34 and 28, respectively, any particular subframe may be configured with any of the various available slot formats 0-61. Slot formats 0 and 1 are full DL and full UL, respectively. Other slot formats 2-61 include a mixture of DL, UL, and flexible symbols. The UE is configured with a slot format (dynamically configured by DL control information (DCI) or semi-statically / statically configured by radio resource control (RRC) signaling) through the received slot format indicator (SFI). Note that the following description also applies to the 5G / NR frame structure for TDD.

[0066] Other wireless communication technologies may have different frame structures and / or different channels. A frame (10ms) may be divided into 10 equally sized subframes (1ms). Each subframe may include one or more time slots. A subframe may also include mini-slots, which may include 7, 4, or 2 symbols. Each time slot may include 7 or 14 symbols, depending on the time slot configuration. For time slot configuration 0, each time slot may include 14 symbols, and for time slot configuration 1, each time slot may include 7 symbols. The symbols on the DL may be cyclic prefix (CP) OFDM (CP-OFDM) symbols. The symbols on the UL may be CP-OFDM symbols (for high throughput scenarios) or discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) symbols (also known as single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) symbols) (for power-limited scenarios; limited to single stream transmission). The number of time slots within a subframe is based on the time slot configuration and parameter design. For slot configuration 0, different parameter designs μ0 to 4 allow 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 slots per subframe, respectively. For slot configuration 1, different parameter designs 0 to 2 allow 2, 4, and 8 slots per subframe, respectively. Accordingly, for slot configuration 0 and parameter design μ, there are 14 symbols per slot and 2 per subframe. μ time slots. The subcarrier spacing and symbol length / duration vary depending on parameter design. The subcarrier spacing can be equal to 2 μ*15kHz, where μ is parameter design 0 to 4. Thus, parameter design μ=0 has a subcarrier spacing of 15kHz, while parameter design μ=4 has a subcarrier spacing of 240kHz. The symbol length / duration is inversely related to the subcarrier spacing. Figures 2A-2D An example of slot configuration 0 with 14 symbols per slot and parameter design μ=2 and 4 slots per subframe is provided. The slot duration is 0.25 ms, the subcarrier spacing is 60 kHz, and the symbol duration is approximately 16.67 μs. Within a frame set, there may be one or more different bandwidth parts (BWPs) that are frequency division multiplexed (see 2B). Each BWP may have a specific parameter design.

[0067] A resource grid may be used to represent the frame structure. Each slot includes a resource block (RB) (also called a physical RB (PRB)) extending over 12 consecutive subcarriers. The resource grid is divided into a number of resource elements (REs). The number of bits carried by each RE depends on the modulation scheme.

[0068] like Figure 2A As explained in the illustration, some REs carry reference (pilot) signals (RS) for UEs. RSs may include demodulation RSs (DM-RSs) for channel estimation at the UE (indicated as R for a particular configuration). x , where 100x is the port number, but other DM-RS configurations are possible) and a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS). RS may also include a beam measurement RS (BRS), a beam refinement RS (BRRS), and a phase tracking RS (PT-RS).

[0069] Figure 2BAn example of various DL channels within a subframe of a frame is illustrated. The physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) carries DCI within one or more control channel elements (CCEs), each CCE including 9 RE groups (REGs), each REG including 4 consecutive REs in an OFDM symbol. The PDCCH within a BWP may be referred to as a control resource set (CORESET). Additional BWPs may be located at higher and / or lower frequencies across the channel bandwidth. The primary synchronization signal (PSS) may be within symbol 2 of a particular subframe of a frame. The PSS is used by the UE 104 to determine subframe / symbol timing and physical layer identity. The secondary synchronization signal (SSS) may be within symbol 4 of a particular subframe of a frame. The SSS is used by the UE to determine the physical layer cell identity group number and radio frame timing. Based on the physical layer identity and the physical layer cell identity group number, the UE may determine the physical cell identifier (PCI). Based on the PCI, the UE may determine the location of the aforementioned DM-RS. The physical broadcast channel (PBCH) carrying the master information block (MIB) can be logically grouped with the PSS and SSS to form a synchronization signal (SS) / PBCH block (also referred to as an SS block (SSB)). The MIB provides the number of RBs in the system bandwidth, and the system frame number (SFN). The physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) carries user data, broadcast system information not transmitted over the PBCH (such as the system information block (SIB)), and paging messages.

[0070] As in Figure 2C As explained in , some REs carry DM-RSs for channel estimation at the base station (indicated as R for one specific configuration, but other DM-RS configurations are possible). The UE may transmit DM-RSs for the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) and DM-RSs for the physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). The PUSCH DM-RS may be transmitted in the first or first two symbols of the PUSCH. The PUCCH DM-RS may be transmitted in different configurations depending on whether a short PUCCH or a long PUCCH is transmitted and on the specific PUCCH format used. The UE may transmit a sounding reference signal (SRS). The SRS may be transmitted in the last symbol of the subframe. The SRS may have a comb structure, and the UE may transmit the SRS on one of the comb teeth. The SRS may be used by the base station for channel quality estimation to enable frequency-dependent scheduling on the UL.

[0071] Figure 2DExamples of various UL channels within a subframe of an illustration frame. The PUCCH may be located at a location as indicated in one configuration. The PUCCH carries uplink control information (UCI), such as scheduling requests, channel quality indicator (CQI), precoding matrix indicator (PMI), rank indicator (RI), and hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) ACK / NACK feedback. The PUSCH carries data and may additionally be used to carry a buffer status report (BSR), a power headroom report (PHR), and / or UCI.

[0072] Figure 3 3 is a block diagram of a base station 310 in communication with a UE 350 in an access network. In the DL, IP packets from the EPC 160 may be provided to a controller / processor 375. The controller / processor 375 implements layer 3 and layer 2 functionality. Layer 3 includes a radio resource control (RRC) layer, and layer 2 includes a service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) layer, a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer, a radio link control (RLC) layer, and a media access control (MAC) layer. The controller / processor 375 provides RRC layer functionality associated with broadcasting of system information (e.g., MIB, SIB), RRC connection control (e.g., RRC connection paging, RRC connection establishment, RRC connection modification, and RRC connection release), inter-radio access technology (RAT) mobility, and measurement configuration of UE measurement reports; PDCP layer functionality associated with header compression / decompression, security (ciphering, cipher decryption, integrity protection, integrity verification), and handover support functions; RLC layer functionality associated with delivery of upper layer packet data units (PDUs), error correction through ARQ, concatenation, segmentation and reassembly of RLC service data units (SDUs), re-segmentation of RLC data PDUs, and reordering of RLC data PDUs; and MAC layer functionality associated with mapping between logical channels and transport channels, multiplexing of MAC SDUs onto transport blocks (TBs), demultiplexing of MAC SDUs from TBs, scheduling information reporting, error correction through HARQ, priority handling, and logical channel prioritization.

[0073] The transmit (TX) processor 316 and the receive (RX) processor 370 implement layer 1 functionality associated with various signal processing functions. Layer 1, including the physical (PHY) layer, may include error detection on the transport channel, forward error correction (FEC) encoding / decoding of the transport channel, interleaving, rate matching, mapping to the physical channel, modulation / demodulation of the physical channel, and MIMO antenna processing. The TX processor 316 handles the mapping to the signal constellation based on various modulation schemes (e.g., binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), M-phase shift keying (M-PSK), M-quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM)). The coded and modulated symbols may then be split into parallel streams. Each stream may then be mapped to an OFDM subcarrier, multiplexed with a reference signal (e.g., pilot) in the time and / or frequency domain, and then combined together using an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) to produce a physical channel carrying a time domain OFDM symbol stream. The OFDM stream is spatially precoded to produce multiple spatial streams. Channel estimates from a channel estimator 374 may be used to determine coding and modulation schemes and for spatial processing. The channel estimates may be derived from a reference signal and / or channel condition feedback transmitted by the UE 350. Each spatial stream may then be provided to a different antenna 320 via a separate transmitter 318TX. Each transmitter 318TX may modulate an RF carrier with a corresponding spatial stream for transmission.

[0074] At the UE 350, each receiver 354RX receives a signal through its corresponding antenna 352. Each receiver 354RX recovers the information modulated onto the RF carrier and provides the information to a receive (RX) processor 356. The TX processor 368 and the RX processor 356 implement layer 1 functionality associated with various signal processing functions. The RX processor 356 can perform spatial processing on the information to recover any spatial stream destined for the UE 350. If there are multiple spatial streams destined for the UE 350, they can be combined into a single OFDM symbol stream by the RX processor 356. The RX processor 356 then transforms the OFDM symbol stream from the time domain to the frequency domain using a fast Fourier transform (FFT). The frequency domain signal includes a separate OFDM symbol stream for each subcarrier of the OFDM signal. The symbols on each subcarrier, as well as the reference signal, are recovered and demodulated by determining the signal constellation point most likely transmitted by the base station 310. These soft decisions can be based on the channel estimates calculated by the channel estimator 358. These soft decisions are then decoded and deinterleaved to recover the data and control signals originally transmitted on the physical channel by the base station 310. These data and control signals are then provided to the controller / processor 359 which implements layer 3 and layer 2 functionality.

[0075] The controller / processor 359 may be associated with a memory 360 that stores program codes and data. The memory 360 may be referred to as a computer readable medium. In the UL, the controller / processor 359 provides demultiplexing between transport channels and logical channels, packet reassembly, cipher interpretation, header decompression, and control signal processing to recover IP packets from the EPC 160. The controller / processor 359 is also responsible for error detection using ACK and / or NACK protocols to support HARQ operations.

[0076] Similar to the functionality described in conjunction with DL transmissions performed by the base station 310, the controller / processor 359 provides RRC layer functionality associated with system information (e.g., MIB, SIB) acquisition, RRC connection, and measurement reporting; PDCP layer functionality associated with header compression / decompression, and security (encryption, decryption, integrity protection, integrity verification); RLC layer functionality associated with delivery of upper layer PDUs, error correction through ARQ, concatenation, segmentation, and reassembly of RLC SDUs, resegmentation of RLC data PDUs, and reordering of RLC data PDUs; and MAC layer functionality associated with mapping between logical channels and transport channels, multiplexing MAC SDUs onto TBs, demultiplexing MAC SDUs from TBs, scheduling information reporting, error correction through HARQ, priority handling, and logical channel prioritization.

[0077] Channel estimates derived by a channel estimator 358 from a reference signal or feedback transmitted by the base station 310 may be used by a TX processor 368 to select the appropriate coding and modulation schemes, and to facilitate spatial processing. The spatial streams generated by the TX processor 368 may be provided to different antennas 352 via separate transmitters 354TX. Each transmitter 354TX may modulate an RF carrier with a corresponding spatial stream for transmission.

[0078] UL transmissions are processed at the base station 310 in a manner similar to that described in conjunction with the receiver functionality at the UE 350. Each receiver 318RX receives a signal through its respective antenna 320. Each receiver 318RX recovers information modulated onto an RF carrier and provides the information to a RX processor 370.

[0079] The controller / processor 375 may be associated with a memory 376 that stores program codes and data. The memory 376 may be referred to as a computer readable medium. In the UL, the controller / processor 375 provides demultiplexing between transport channels and logical channels, packet reassembly, cipher decoding, header decompression, control signal processing to recover IP packets from the UE 350. The IP packets from the controller / processor 375 may be provided to the EPC 160. The controller / processor 375 is also responsible for error detection using ACK and / or NACK protocols to support HARQ operations.

[0080] At least one of the TX processor 368, the RX processor 356, and the controller / processor 359 may be configured to combine Figure 1 198 to perform various aspects, for example, determine whether to monitor at least one ULIC opportunity from the base station based on the uplink scheduling information.

[0081] At least one of the TX processor 316, the RX processor 370, and the controller / processor 375 may be configured to combine Figure 1 199 to perform various aspects, for example, determining when to transmit the ULCI based on whether the UE will monitor a particular ULCI opportunity.

[0082] After the base station schedules resources for use by a UE in, for example, the transmission or reception of eMBB data, the base station may become aware of a more urgent, higher priority transmission from another UE. For example, the other transmission may be from a latency-sensitive device requiring URLLC. In such cases, the base station may reclaim resources previously scheduled to a first, lower priority UE for use by a second, higher priority UE. Specifically, if the previously scheduled resources are for downlink transmissions, the base station may send a DLCI (or downlink preemption indication) to the first UE in a DLCI opportunity to cancel at least a portion of the downlink transmission to the UE. Similarly, if the previously scheduled resources are for uplink transmissions, the base station may send a ULCI (or uplink preemption indication) to the first UE in a ULCI opportunity to cancel at least a portion of the uplink transmission from the UE. The base station may then allocate those reclaimed resources to higher priority, latency-sensitive UEs.

[0083] For example, Figure 4The explanation illustrates an example of a diagram 400 of allocation of resources for uplink transmission 402 for a UE based on an uplink grant 404 received from a base station. If the base station later learns that a latency-sensitive UE requires at least a portion 406 of the resources allocated for uplink transmission 402 to be used for URLLC data or other higher priority data, the base station may transmit a ULCI 408 to the UE in a ULCI opportunity 410, indicating that a portion 406 previously granted for uplink transmission will be punctured for use by the latency-sensitive UE. As a result, the UE cancels its uplink transmission during portion 406 for use by the other UE.

[0084] The UE may monitor DLCI opportunities less frequently because the base station itself may prefer URLLC data to cancel portions of the eMBB transmission. However, the UE may monitor ULCI opportunities more frequently to know when to cancel portions of its eMBB transmission in favor of URLLC data. For example, the UE may monitor ULCI opportunities more often per time slot than DLCI opportunities. For example, Figure 5 An example frame structure 500 including multiple symbols 502 (in this configuration, there are 14 symbols in a single time slot) is illustrated in which multiple UE ULCI opportunities 504 may occur in a time slot. Each ULCI opportunity may include a ULCI for canceling at least a portion of one or more previously scheduled uplink transmissions. Frequent monitoring of ULCI opportunities may impose a large power consumption burden on the UE and affect the ability of the UE to send its own traffic to the base station. Various aspects presented herein enable the UE to selectively monitor ULCI opportunities or determine whether to skip monitoring unnecessary ULCI opportunities in order to reduce the power consumption burden of the UE. Various aspects presented herein also enable the base station to send ULCI opportunities at times corresponding to the selective monitoring of the UE to improve system performance and minimize misaligned transmission and reception of ULCI opportunities.

[0085] Various aspects of the present application provide rules for selective monitoring of ULCI opportunities by a UE and corresponding transmissions of the ULCI opportunities by a base station. The rules may depend on whether a previously scheduled uplink transmission was semi-statically scheduled (e.g., configured via RRC) or dynamically scheduled (e.g., in downlink control information (DCI)). In a first aspect, regardless of whether the uplink transmission is semi-statically or dynamically scheduled, the UE may not monitor the ULCI opportunity if the UE does not have a previously scheduled uplink transmission that may be punctured by URLLC data or other higher priority data. Instead, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunity only if the base station previously scheduled an uplink transmission for the UE that may be punctured or canceled by the ULCI. The following references Figure 6 and 7Details of this aspect are described in . When an uplink transmission is dynamically scheduled by an uplink grant, the UE may require some processing time to receive and decode the uplink grant. Therefore, the UE may not monitor the ULCI opportunity if the UE does not receive the uplink grant at least a certain number of symbols earlier than the ULCI opportunity associated with the uplink transmission. Figure 8 and 9 Details of this aspect are described.

[0086] In addition, the UE may be configured with two uplink carriers in the same uplink serving cell, namely a SUL carrier and a NUL carrier, and the base station may semi-statically or dynamically schedule uplink transmissions on either NUL or SUL. Fig.10 An example serving cell 1000 is illustrated in which a base station 1002 may communicate with a UE 1004 via a NUL carrier 1006 and a SUL carrier 1008. The NUL carrier 1006 and the SUL carrier 1008 may be located at different frequencies, e.g., the NUL carrier 1006 may be located at a higher frequency than the SUL carrier 1008. The NUL carrier 1006 and the SUL carrier 1008 may have different ranges, e.g., Fig.10 Base station 1002 may send an uplink grant to UE 1004 on either the NUL or the SUL; the UE may not be able to transmit uplink communications on both the NUL and the SUL.

[0087] When a base station sends a ULCI to a UE to cancel a previously scheduled uplink transmission, various aspects presented herein enable the UE to determine whether to apply the ULCI to cancel an uplink transmission on the NUL or SUL. Various aspects may enable the ULCI to indicate whether the uplink transmission to be canceled is carried on the NUL or SUL.

[0088] The various aspects proposed herein enable the UE to determine whether the uplink transmission to be cancelled is carried on the NUL or SUL based on the ULCI received from the base station. Figure 6-9 In addition or as an alternative to the selective monitoring of the ULCI described above, the base station may configure a separate block in the DCI to indicate whether the UE should apply the ULCI to the SUL or the NUL or both. The base station may save signaling overhead by configuring only one block in the DCI to indicate that the UE should apply the ULCI to both the SUL and the NUL, even though it is possible that only one of the SUL and the NUL includes an uplink transmission. Fig.11 and 12The details of these aspects are described in detail in the following. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may configure the UE to perform different behaviors (e.g., stopping uplink transmission without resuming subsequent uplink transmission, stopping uplink transmission and resuming subsequent uplink transmission, and reducing uplink transmission power) depending on whether the part of the uplink transmission to be canceled is on SUL or NUL after receiving the ULCI. Fig.13 Describe example details in this regard.

[0089] Now refer to the first aspect and Figure 6 and 7 , each ULCI in the ULCI opportunity may be associated with a certain time domain resource set (i.e., window). The base station may notify the UE about which time domain resource set or which uplink resource window corresponds to each ULCI opportunity. For example, the base station may indicate the time domain resource set used for each ULCI opportunity in RRC signaling. As an example, the base station may configure multiple time domain resource sets for ULCI through RRC, and may dynamically indicate to the UE which time domain resource set of these time domain resource sets the ULCI should be applied to. In this case, the UE should assume that the time domain resources to which the ULCI is applied are the union of all time domain resources configured by RRC to which the ULCI may be applied.

[0090] There may be different types of ULCI indications. One example of a ULCI indication may include a bitmap type indication. Another type of ULCI indication may include a dynamic start and length type indication. In a bitmap type ULCI indication, each bit in the bitmap may correspond to a subset of uplink time domain resources (e.g., a symbol) to which the ULCI applies. Therefore, the base station may configure a time domain resource set for each ULCI opportunity, and may dynamically signal via a bitmap whether each resource subset is to be punctured.

[0091] However, in the ULCI indication of the dynamic start and length type, the signaling may be similar to the signaling of the time domain resources used for dynamic PUSCH / PDSCH signaling in NR. Thus, the base station may signal the starting symbol of the time domain resources to be punctured by the ULCI and the length of the time domain resources to be punctured by the ULCI. Therefore, the UE may determine the union of all time domain resources that may be covered by the ULCI when determining whether it is to monitor the ULCI opportunity. For example, assuming that a given ULCI may signal one of two possible cancellation modes: the first mode cancels transmissions on the 3rd to 5th symbols of the time slot, and the second mode cancels transmissions on the 6th to 8th symbols of the time slot. In this case, the total time domain resources that may be covered by the ULCI are the 3rd to 8th symbols of the time slot. Therefore, if the eMBB UE has any uplink transmission with at least one symbol in the 3rd to 8th symbols of the time slot, the UE may determine to monitor the ULCI opportunity.

[0092] In another example, the base station may configure two or more time domain durations through RRC: for example, a one-time slot duration and a two-time slot duration to indicate multiple time domain resources. The base station may then dynamically indicate whether a particular ULCI applies to one time slot or two time slots when it issues ULCI signaling (e.g., using 1 bit signaled in the ULCI plus an existing field). In this case, before receiving the ULCI, the UE may not know whether the ULCI will be valid for one time slot or two time slots. Therefore, the UE may prepare for the potential situation where the ULCI covers two time slots.

[0093] For example, Figure 6 A transmission diagram 600 is illustrated in which a UE may receive multiple ULCI opportunities 602, 604, 606, 608, 610, 612 from a base station, wherein each ULCI opportunity corresponds to a respective window 614, 616, 618, etc. in a combined resource set 620 for use by uplink transmissions 622, 624. Thus, ULCI opportunity 602 may be associated with a time domain resource set within window 614, ULCI opportunity 604 may be associated with a time domain resource set within window 616, and so on. Each window may span, for example, multiple symbols in the combined resource set 620.

[0094] According to this aspect, if the base station previously scheduled an uplink transmission with at least one symbol falling within the corresponding window, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunity. If the UE is not scheduled to perform an uplink transmission during the window associated with the ULCI opportunity, the UE may determine to skip monitoring the ULCI opportunity. For example, Figure 6 It is illustrated that the base station has previously scheduled uplink transmissions 622, 624 that use time domain resource sets within windows 614 and 618, respectively, but not within window 616. Therefore, since both uplink transmissions 622 and 624 include at least one symbol only within windows 614 and 618, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunities associated with those windows (i.e., ULCI opportunities 602 and 610), and the UE may skip monitoring the ULCI opportunities associated with the remaining windows (e.g., ULCI opportunities 604, 606, 608, and 612). By skipping monitoring these ULCI opportunities, the UE may reduce power consumption. In an example, Figure 6All uplink transmissions in may be configured PUSCH transmissions, e.g., based on configured grants that trigger an uplink transmission sequence or semi-persistently scheduled uplink transmissions. The UE may be configured with PUSCH transmissions with configured grants that have a large periodicity, e.g., 1 PUSCH transmission in every 10 slots. The UE may monitor only the ULCI opportunities before each configured PUSCH opportunity and may skip other ULCI opportunities between PUSCH opportunities.

[0095] Similarly, the base station may refrain from transmitting a ULCI to a given UE for a window of at least one symbol in which the base station did not previously schedule the UE for uplink transmission. Figure 6 6, the base station does not schedule the UE to perform uplink transmission in window 616. Therefore, the base station can refrain from transmitting the ULCI for a given UE in ULCI opportunity 604. Similarly, the base station can refrain from sending the ULCI for the UE in other ULCI opportunities (e.g., ULCI opportunities 606, 608, and 612) that the UE will skip monitoring, thereby preventing waste of resources for sending unnecessary ULCI opportunities, improving system performance, and preventing transmission / reception misalignment of ULCI opportunities.

[0096] On the other hand, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunity when the previously scheduled uplink transmission is allowed to be punctured or canceled by the ULCI. There are different types of uplink transmissions. For example, the uplink transmission may include any one of PUSCH, PUCCH, SRS, PRACH, etc. In some cases, not all uplink transmissions may be punctured or canceled by the ULCI. For example, PRACH transmissions may be restricted from being affected by the ULCI. Thus, if the UE has a scheduled PRACH transmission, the UE may determine not to monitor the ULCI because the transmission cannot be punctured or canceled even if the ULCI is received. In one example, the PUSCH transmission may be able to be canceled or punctured by the ULCI, while other types of uplink transmissions may not be punctured or canceled by the ULCI. In some cases, if the scheduled uplink transmission itself is URLLC data or other high priority data, the data cannot be canceled by the ULCI and therefore the UE may skip monitoring the ULCI opportunity for the uplink transmission. The base station may indicate to the UE (eg, in downlink control information (DCI), RRC signaling, and / or MAC control elements) whether the scheduled uplink transmission is allowed to be cancelled by the ULCI. Figure 6In an example, uplink transmission 622 may be eMBB data transmitted by the UE that may be responsive to ULCI being cancelled, and uplink transmission 624 may be URLLC data or other higher priority data transmitted by the UE that cannot be responsive to ULCI being cancelled. In such a case, the UE may monitor ULCI opportunity 602, but may skip monitoring ULCI opportunity 610.

[0097] In other aspects, the scheduled uplink transmission may be on the same serving cell as the ULCI timing with which it is associated, or on a different serving cell than the ULCI timing with which it is associated. When the base station schedules an uplink transmission for a UE, the base station may indicate in a field of the DCI which cell will be used for the uplink transmission. For example, referring to Figure 6 , the base station may schedule in the same cell in which the ULCI opportunity 602 is transmitted / received and the UE may transmit uplink transmission 622 in the cell, while the base station may schedule in a cell different from the cell in which the ULCI opportunity 610 is transmitted / received and the UE may transmit uplink transmission 624 in the cell. Thus, after selectively monitoring the ULCI opportunities 602 and 610, the UE may cancel at least a portion of the uplink transmissions 622, 624 in their corresponding cells.

[0098] In certain aspects of the first aspect, multiple ULCI opportunities may be associated with the same symbol of a previously scheduled uplink transmission, and the UE may monitor the multiple ULCI opportunities. In other words, different resource (e.g., window) sets may overlap. For example, Figure 7 An example of a transmission diagram 700 is illustrated in which a UE may receive multiple ULCI opportunities 702, 704, 706, 708, 710, 712 from a base station, each ULCI opportunity corresponding to a respective window 714, 716, 718, etc. in a combined resource set 720 for use by uplink transmissions 722, 724. Thus, ULCI opportunity 702 may be associated with a time domain resource set within window 714, ULCI opportunity 704 may be associated with a time domain resource set within window 716, and so on. However, unlike Figure 6 , where windows 714, 716, 718 may overlap in time. For example, each window may span a time longer than the time the associated ULCI opportunities 702, 704, and 706 are separated, resulting in windows 714, 716 overlapping at portion 726 and windows 716, 718 overlapping at portion 728.

[0099] In such a case, if the base station previously scheduled an uplink transmission with at least one symbol within the overlapping portion, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunities associated with the windows of the two overlapping portions. Figure 7It is illustrated that the base station has previously scheduled uplink transmission 722 using a time domain resource set in overlapping portion 726 and uplink transmission 724 using a time domain resource set in overlapping portion 728 and window 718. Therefore, since uplink transmission 722 includes at least one symbol within windows 714 and 716, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunities associated with those windows (i.e., ULCI opportunities 702 and 704). Similarly, since uplink transmission 724 includes at least one symbol within windows 716 and 718, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunities associated with those windows (i.e., ULCI opportunities 704 and 706). The UE may skip monitoring the ULCI opportunities associated with the remaining windows (e.g., ULCI opportunities 708, 710, and 712).

[0100] In other aspects, multiple ULCI opportunities may be associated with different portions of the same scheduled uplink transmission, and the UE may monitor the multiple ULCI opportunities. Figure 7 , different parts 730, 732 of uplink transmission 724 include at least one symbol within windows 716 and 718, respectively, and thus the UE may monitor at least one ULCI opportunity for part 730 and at least one other ULCI opportunity for part 732. In the case where at least one part is in the overlapping part, the UE may monitor a different number of ULCI opportunities for each part. For example, since part 730 is in the overlapping part 728, the UE may monitor two ULCI opportunities (i.e., ULCI opportunities 704 and 706) for part 730 of uplink transmission 724 and may monitor only one ULCI opportunity (i.e., ULCI opportunity 706) for part 732 of uplink transmission 724. As another example, if the first part 730 is cancelled by the ULCI in ULCI opportunity 704, the UE may also cancel the remaining part 732. In this case, since part 732 of the uplink transmission has been cancelled, the UE may determine not to monitor ULCI opportunity 706. Thus, the power consumption burden imposed on the UE by frequent monitoring of ULCI may be further reduced. For example, if some symbols 730 of the uplink transmission are cancelled in the overlap 728 between the uplink resource 716 and the uplink resource 718, and if the UE is configured to perform the stop uplink transmission 724 without recovery, all subsequent transmissions after the cancelled symbols will also be cancelled. For example, if the first part 730 is cancelled, the UE may also cancel the second part 732. In this example, the UE may determine not to monitor the ULCI opportunity 718 because all symbols in the uplink transmission 724 that fall in the window 718 have been cancelled.

[0101] For example, the two ULCI opportunities may correspond to overlapping uplink time domain resources, and UL transmission cannot be performed in the resources covered by the second ULCI opportunity. Figure 7 In the embodiment of the present invention, for example, the ULCI in ULCI opportunity 702 and the ULCI in ULCI opportunity 704 cover overlapping uplink transmission resources, for example, at the overlap 726 of resource 714 and resource 716. The UL transmission 722 may be performed entirely within the overlapping portion 726. In this case, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunity 702. If the ULCI in the ULCI opportunity 702 indicates to the UE that the uplink transmission 722 is to be canceled, the UE may determine not to monitor the ULCI opportunity 704 because the uplink transmission has been canceled. However, if the ULCI in the ULCI opportunity 702 does not cancel the uplink transmission 722, the UE may determine to monitor the ULCI opportunity 704 because the base station may use the ULCI opportunity 704 to cancel the uplink transmission 722. The UE may make such a determination if a future ULCI opportunity does not resume a transmission that has been canceled by a previous ULCI and / or if the ULCI does not cancel a future (unscheduled) transmission. Thus, if a UE receives a ULCI indicating that a symbol for uplink transmission is to be cancelled, the UE does not expect an uplink transmission scheduled later on that symbol.

[0102] In another example, the UL transmission 722 may have at least one symbol in the window 716 that does not overlap with the window 714 (eg, outside the overlap region 726 ).

[0103] Now refer to the second aspect and Figure 8 and 9As described above, when an uplink transmission is dynamically scheduled by a base station (e.g., in an uplink grant), the UE may require time to receive and decode the uplink grant. For example, the UE may require a specific number of symbols x to decode the uplink grant after receiving the uplink grant, where x=1 or another number. Accordingly, if the ULCI is received before the uplink grant is decoded, the UE may not be able to monitor the ULCI opportunity associated with the window for the uplink transmission scheduled by the uplink grant. Although the UE can buffer all signals received on the ULCI opportunity, decode the dynamic scheduling information (e.g., uplink grant), and then decode the ULCI if the UE detects that the scheduled uplink transmission overlaps with the time domain resources indicated by the ULCI opportunity, such buffering may increase the complexity of the UE implementation and require additional memory to buffer the signals. Therefore, in order to maintain simplicity of operation without additional memory usage, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunity associated with the time domain window of the uplink transmission if the UE receives an uplink grant scheduling the uplink transmission at least a certain number of symbols earlier than the ULCI opportunity. For example, if the uplink grant arrives at least x symbols earlier than the start symbol of the control resource set (OCRESET) of the ULCI opportunity, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunity; otherwise, the UE may skip monitoring the ULCI opportunity.

[0104] For example, Figure 8 An example transmission diagram 800 is illustrated in which a UE receives an uplink grant 802 that dynamically schedules an uplink transmission 804 (e.g., PUSCH, PUCCH, SRS, etc.). A ULCI opportunity 806 may be associated with, for example, a certain set of time domain resources or window 808 in which the uplink transmission 804 is dynamically scheduled. Figure 8 As shown, uplink grant 802 is received by the UE less than a certain number of symbols x 810 before the starting symbol of ULCI opportunity 806. As a result, the UE may skip monitoring ULCI opportunity 806 and continue to transmit data in uplink transmission 804, thereby reducing the power consumption burden imposed on the UE by frequent monitoring of ULCI opportunities. When the UE determines whether to monitor ULCI opportunity 806 (a determination made before the first symbol of 806), the UE may not have decoded uplink grant 802. In this example, the UE may determine that no uplink transmission is scheduled and thus the UE may skip monitoring ULCI opportunity 806. In contrast, when the UE determines whether to monitor ULCI opportunity 812, the UE may have already decoded uplink grant 802. Thus, if ULCI 812 corresponds to at least one symbol in uplink resource 804, the UE may determine to monitor ULCI opportunity 812.

[0105] Similarly, if the base station determines that the UE will not monitor the ULCI opportunity, for example, if the base station does not transmit an uplink grant for dynamically scheduled uplink transmission at least a certain number of symbols earlier than the ULCI opportunity associated with the time domain window of the uplink transmission, the base station may refrain from transmitting the ULCI in the ULCI opportunity. The base station may first determine whether the base station is to cancel a portion of the uplink transmission in the previously granted resources. Thus, the UE may determine whether the base station is to cancel a portion of the uplink transmission 804 to reserve resources for URLLC transmission. When the base station is to puncture a portion of the uplink transmission, the base station may determine to transmit during the ULCI opportunity. If no uplink resources need to be canceled, the base station may refrain from transmitting the ULCI. For example, if Figure 8 As shown, the base station may transmit an uplink grant 802 such that the UE receives the uplink grant 802 less than a certain number of symbols x 810 before the start symbol of the ULCI opportunity 806. In this case, the base station may determine that the UE will skip monitoring the ULCI opportunity 806, and may therefore refrain from transmitting the ULCI for uplink transmission 804 in the ULCI opportunity 806. Instead, the base station may transmit the ULCI for uplink transmission 804 in the next ULCI opportunity 812 that the UE may monitor, thereby preventing waste of resources caused by sending unnecessary ULCI opportunities, improving system performance, and preventing misalignment of transmission / reception of ULCI opportunities.

[0106] If the UE receives an uplink grant scheduling an uplink transmission at least a certain number of symbols earlier than the ULCI opportunity, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunity associated with the uplink transmission even if a subsequent uplink grant is received within a certain number of symbols before the ULCI opportunity. Fig. 9 An example transmission diagram 900 is illustrated in which a UE receives a first uplink grant 902 that dynamically schedules a first uplink transmission 904 (e.g., PUSCH, PUCCH, SRS, etc.) and a second uplink grant 906 that dynamically schedules a second uplink transmission (not shown). The ULCI opportunity 908 may also be associated with a certain set of time domain resources or window 910 in which the first uplink transmission 904 is dynamically scheduled. Figure 8Unlike the example of , here the first uplink grant 902 has been received at least a certain number (x) of symbols 912 before the start symbol of the ULCI opportunity 908 associated with the first uplink transmission 904, although the second uplink grant 906 is timed less than x symbols before the ULCI opportunity 908. Therefore, the UE determines to monitor the ULCI opportunity 908, thereby reducing the power consumption burden imposed on the UE by frequent monitoring of the ULCI opportunity while preventing misalignment of transmission / reception of the ULCI opportunity caused by skipping the ULCI opportunity based on the timing error of different grants.

[0107] Now refer to the third aspect and Fig.11 and 12 , since the UE may be scheduled for uplink transmissions on the NUL or SUL carrier of the serving cell. Thus, it may be beneficial to enable the UE to determine whether the ULCI cancels transmissions carried on the NUL and / or SUL. Various aspects of the present disclosure allow a base station to configure the UE to monitor separate blocks or fields in the ULCI, where each block corresponds to a SUL carrier and / or a NUL carrier carrying uplink transmissions to be punctured in a given cell. The ULCI may include multiple blocks. The UE may be configured with the length of the ULCI in the DCI and may be configured to monitor blocks corresponding to the SUL carrier, blocks corresponding to the NUL carrier, or blocks corresponding to both the SUL and NUL carriers. The UE may apply the ULCI on the corresponding carrier (e.g., SUL or NUL) indicated in each configured block (e.g., according to reference hereinafter). Fig.13 The various actions described herein cancel at least a portion of an uplink transmission).

[0108] In certain aspects, the base station configures the same block for both the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier, in which case the UE may apply the ULCI on both the SUL and NUL carriers of a given cell. In an example, the UE may autonomously apply the ULCI on the corresponding carrier (e.g., SUL or NUL) based on the location of the uplink transmission indicated in the configured block (e.g., based on whether the uplink is scheduled on SUL or NUL). In certain aspects where the uplink transmission is a PUSCH transmission, the UE may be configured with a single block corresponding to both the NUL and SUL carriers because the UE cannot perform simultaneous PUSCH transmissions on the NUL and SUL carriers. This aspect may save base station signaling overhead compared to the third aspect because the base station may use one block instead of two separate blocks to configure the UE to apply the ULCI to the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier.

[0109] Alternatively, the base station may configure the UE to monitor a block or field in the DCI including the ULCI, where the block corresponds to the SUL carrier or NUL carrier on which the uplink transmission to be punctured is carried in a given cell. The UE may be configured in the RRC with the length of the ULCI and the block corresponding to the SUL carrier or the block corresponding to the NUL carrier. For example, as combined with Fig.11 As described in the example of , the UE may receive a configuration (e.g., in an UplinkCancellation or another configuration parameter) indicating a location corresponding to a particular cell. Fig.11 As illustrated, there may be positions for more than one cell. Thus, the configuration may indicate, for example, in a parameter such as ci-ConfigurationPerServingCell or another name, the corresponding position for each of these cells and the corresponding position in the DCI. As an example, the configuration may indicate several fields in the DCI, such as the length of the DCI for each serving cell for the SUL carrier, for example, if the serving cell is configured with a SUL carrier (e.g., by positionInDCI-forSUL or another name).

[0110] In other aspects, the UE may apply the ULCI to both the NUL carrier and the SUL carrier, even though the configured blocks may correspond to only the NUL carrier or the SUL carrier.

[0111] Alternatively, the base station may send an RRC parameter to the UE indicating whether the UE is to apply the ULCI only to the SUL carrier or the NUL carrier. For example, the ULCI may include group common signaling transmitted to a group of UEs. A given block of UCLI may be configured for multiple UEs and may be used to perforate uplink transmissions from the multiple UEs on the same cell using a single ULCI signal. However, some of the multiple UEs may not be configured with both NUL and SUL carriers. For example, one UE may be configured with both NUL and SUL carriers in a cell, but a second UE may be configured with only the NUL carrier in the cell. Both UEs may monitor the same block in the ULCI. The base station may configure the first UE to monitor the ULCI for the NUL carrier but not for the SUL carrier.

[0112] For example, Fig.11An example frame structure 1100 of a DCI including a ULCI 1102 is illustrated. The ULCI includes a plurality of blocks 1104 that may be configured for a particular cell. Each block 1104 may correspond to at least one bit associated with a time domain resource granularity (e.g., a number of symbols), where a '0' may indicate not to cancel an uplink transmission and a '1' may indicate to direct an uplink transmission (e.g., apply ULCI) or vice versa. Blocks 1104 may be configured to indicate which carrier (SUL or NUL) and the portion of the uplink transmission on which the resources / symbols are to be punctured or cancelled. In the example of Fig.11 In one example shown, the base station may configure the UE to have at least one block of ULCI. Fig.11 In the embodiment of the present invention, the UE may be configured to receive the ULCI in block 2 1106 and block 6 1108 of the ULCI 1102 structure, where block 2 1106 may be configured to correspond to the NUL and block 6 1108 may be configured to correspond to the SUL (or vice versa). Fig.11 Only a single example is illustrated; the UE may be configured to receive the ULCI in any block that may be configured (e.g., to 0 or 1) in the ULCI 1102, and any of these blocks may be configured to correspond to the NUL carrier or the SUL carrier of a given cell. For example, the UE may apply the ULCI to the NUL carrier or the SUL carrier based on which block in blocks 1106, 1108 receives the ULCI instruction to cancel the transmission. In another example, the UE may apply the ULCI received in a single block to both the NUL carrier and the SUL carrier.

[0113] Thus, when the UE receives an instruction to cancel uplink transmission in blocks 1106 and / or 1108, the UE may apply the ULCI to cancel at least a portion of the uplink transmission on the carrier (SUL and / or NUL) and the resources indicated in these blocks. If the UE is configured to receive a ULCI for the NUL carrier in block 1106 and a ULCI for the SUL carrier in block 1108, the UE will cancel the transmission on the NUL carrier when the ULCI instruction is received in block 1106. When the ULCI instruction is received in block 1108, the UE will cancel the transmission on the SUL carrier.

[0114] Fig.12 An example transmission diagram 1200 is illustrated in which a UE receives a ULCI 1202 associated with a window 1204 (corresponding to Fig.11 Assuming that block 2 1106 is configured to correspond to NUL and block 6 1108 is configured to correspond to SUL as described above, depending on whether the instruction to cancel is received in block 1106 or 1108, the UE may proceed to cancel at least a portion of the first uplink transmission 1206 at the carrier (i.e., NUL) and Fig.11 The time domain resources indicated in block 1106 of , and at least a portion of a second uplink transmission 1208 at the carrier (ie, SUL) and Fig.11 Thus, based on the configuration of each block in DCI 1102 / ULCI 1202, the UE can easily determine the carrier (NUL or SUL) and resource of the uplink transmission to be canceled when receiving the ULCI.

[0115] If a single block (eg, 1106) is configured to apply to both NUL and SUL carriers, then Fig.12 The UE in 1106 may cancel transmissions 1206 and 1208 upon receiving the ULCI instruction in 1106. Likewise, the UE may be configured with a single block for both NUL and SUL carriers. The UE may autonomously apply the ULCI to the NUL / SUL carrier based on the location of any scheduled uplink transmission on the NUL / SUL carrier.

[0116] After receiving the ULCI in the selectively monitored ULCI opportunity, the UE may perform one or more actions or behaviors on the NUL or SUL carrier of the cellular cell while canceling a portion of the previously scheduled uplink transmission in the window associated with the detected ULCI. For example, the UE may decide to stop transmitting a portion of the uplink transmission indicated by the ULCI without resuming subsequent uplink transmissions (i.e., "stop transmission without recovery"), the UE may decide to stop a portion of the uplink transmission indicated by the ULCI while resuming further uplink transmissions (i.e., "stop transmission with recovery"). Alternatively, the UE may decide to reduce the transmission power for a portion of the uplink transmission indicated by the ULCI instead of stopping the transmission of the portion. The UE may alternatively or additionally perform other actions on the SUL or NUL carrier.

[0117] In various aspects, the UE may report to the base station that it is capable of performing any one or more of the actions identified above for SUL or NUL carriers, and the base station may configure the UE to perform one or more of these actions for NUL and / or SUL carriers. Fig.13 An example transmission diagram 1300 is illustrated, which includes a first uplink transmission 1302 carried on a NUL carrier 1304 and a second uplink transmission 1306 carried on a SUL carrier 1308. In this example, the base station has configured the UE to perform a "stop transmission with recovery" action when the ULCI is applied to the NUL carrier 1304, but the UE is configured to perform a "stop transmission without recovery" action when the ULCI is applied to the SUL carrier 1308. Thus, Fig.13The UE is illustrated canceling a portion 1310 of its uplink transmission 1302 on the NUL 1304 in response to the ULCI while resuming its uplink transmission starting at a portion 1312 on the NUL carrier 1304. Fig.13 It is illustrated that the UE cancels a portion 1314 of the uplink transmission 1306 on the SUL carrier 1308 in response to the ULCI, while canceling its subsequent uplink transmission starting at portion 1316. The above illustration is merely an example; the UE may be configured to perform any action on the NUL or SUL carrier (e.g., stop without recovery on the NUL carrier but stop with recovery on the SUL carrier, stop without recovery on the NUL carrier but perform a transmission power reduction on the SUL, etc.). Thus, the UE may be configured to perform different actions on its uplink transmission on the NUL carrier than on the SUL carrier in response to receiving the ULCI.

[0118] Fig.14 An example call flow diagram 1400 between a UE 1402 and a base station 1404 is illustrated. Fig.14 In one example, base station 1404 schedules an uplink transmission (e.g., eMBB data) for UE 1402 and sends scheduling information 1406 to notify the UE of the uplink transmission. UE 1402 then determines whether to monitor a ULCI opportunity for the uplink transmission (1408), and similarly base station 1404 may determine whether UE 1402 will monitor the ULCI opportunity (1410). For example, the UE may determine to monitor the ULCI opportunity if the base station has previously scheduled an uplink transmission for the UE that may be punctured or cancelled by the ULCI and has at least one symbol that falls within a corresponding window of the ULCI opportunity, as described above with reference to Figure 6 and 7 As described in the first aspect.

[0119] At this time, the base station 1404 has previously scheduled (e.g., scheduling information 1406 for eMBB data) uplink transmissions of the UE 1402 that can be cancelled by the ULCI and have at least one symbol falling within the corresponding window. Figure 6 , ULCI opportunity 1412 may correspond to ULCI opportunity 602, and Fig.14 The uplink transmission of may correspond to an uplink transmission 622 of at least one symbol included within the window 614 associated with the ULCI opportunity 602. Figure 7 , ULCI opportunity 1412 may correspond to ULCI opportunity 702 or 704, and Fig.14The uplink transmission of 1402 may correspond to an uplink transmission 722 of at least one symbol included within windows 714 and 716 associated with ULCI opportunities 702 and 704. Thus, UE 1402 may determine to monitor ULCI opportunity 1412, and base station 1404 may determine that the UE may monitor ULCI opportunity 1412. As a result, the UE may monitor the ULCI opportunity (1414), base station 1404 may transmit ULCI 1416 in ULCI opportunity 1412, and UE 1402 may receive ULCI 1416. Based on the received ULCI 1416, UE 1402 may cancel its scheduled uplink transmission (1418), as indicated by canceled uplink transmission 1420. As described above with reference to Figure 6 As described, the uplink transmission 1420 may be on the same serving cell as the associated ULCI opportunity 1412 or on a different serving cell than the associated ULCI opportunity 1412 .

[0120] Thereafter, UE 1402 determines whether to monitor another ULCI opportunity (1422). Similarly, base station 1404 determines whether the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity (1424). At this point, base station 1404 has not yet scheduled subsequent uplink transmissions, and UE 1402 has not yet received scheduling information for such uplink transmissions. For example, referring to Figure 6 , the next ULCI opportunity 1426 may correspond to the ULCI opportunity 606 associated with the window 616, in which there are no symbols for the scheduled uplink transmission of the UE 1402. Similarly, with reference to Figure 7 , the next ULCI opportunity 1426 may correspond to ULCI opportunity 708, in which there are no symbols for scheduled uplink transmissions for UE 1402. As a result, UE 1402 may skip monitoring this ULCI opportunity (1428), and the base station may likewise refrain from transmitting ULCI in ULCI opportunity 1426 (1430). Figure 7 As described, the window associated with the ULCI opportunity 1426 may overlap with other windows associated with other ULCI opportunities, or different portions of the uplink transmission may include at least one symbol within different windows associated with ULCI opportunities (including the ULCI opportunity 1426).

[0121] Next, the base station 1404 sends scheduling information 1432 to the UE 1402 for a new uplink transmission that is restricted from being punctured based on the ULCI. For example, the uplink transmission may be URLLC data or other higher priority data that cannot be canceled by the ULCI. Thereafter, the UE 1402 determines whether to monitor the next ULCI opportunity (1434), and the base station 1404 may similarly determine whether the UE will monitor the next ULCI opportunity (1436). In this case, the UE may determine (e.g., based on the scheduling information 1432) that the uplink transmission cannot be punctured or canceled by the ULCI. For example, the uplink transmission may correspond to Figure 6 1438, and the next ULCI opportunity 1438 may correspond to the ULCI opportunity 610 in which at least one symbol of the uplink transmission 624 may fall. As a result, UE 1402 may skip monitoring the next ULCI opportunity (1440), and the base station may likewise refrain from transmitting ULCI in ULCI opportunity 1438 (1442). UE 1402 may then transmit its uplink transmission 1444 to base station 1404.

[0122] Fig.15 Another example call flow diagram 1500 between a UE 1502 and a base station 1504 is illustrated. Fig.15 In one example, base station 1504 may dynamically schedule an uplink transmission (e.g., eMBB data) of UE 1502 and send scheduling information 1506 to notify the UE of the uplink transmission. UE 1502 then determines whether to monitor a ULCI opportunity for the uplink transmission (1508), and similarly base station 1504 may determine whether UE 1502 will monitor a ULCI opportunity (1510). For example, UE 1502 may determine to monitor a ULCI opportunity if the UE receives a dynamically scheduled uplink grant at least a certain number of symbols earlier than a ULCI opportunity associated with the uplink transmission, as described above with reference to Figure 8 and 9 As described in the second aspect.

[0123] At this time, the base station 1504 has dynamically scheduled (e.g., scheduling information 1506 for eMBB data) uplink transmissions of the UE 1502 that can be cancelled by the ULCI and have at least one symbol falling within the corresponding window (similar to Fig.14 ). In addition, the dynamically scheduled uplink grant 1506 is received by the UE 1502 at least a threshold number of symbols 1512 earlier than the starting symbol of the CORESET of the ULCI opportunity 1514, such as Fig.15As illustrated. Thus, UE 1502 determines to monitor ULCI opportunity 1514, and base station 1504 may determine that the UE will monitor ULCI opportunity 1514. As a result, the UE monitors the ULCI opportunity (1516), base station 1504 transmits ULCI 1518 in ULCI opportunity 1514, and UE 1502 receives ULCI 1518. Based on the received ULCI 1518, UE 1502 may cancel its scheduled uplink transmission (1520), as indicated by canceled uplink transmission 1522.

[0124] The base station 1504 then sends scheduling information 1524 for the new uplink transmission to the UE 1502. Thereafter, the UE 1502 determines whether to monitor the next ULCI opportunity (1526), and the base station 1504 may similarly determine whether the UE will monitor the next ULCI opportunity (1528). In this case, the UE may determine that the dynamically scheduled uplink grant 1524 will be received by the UE 1502 less than the threshold number of symbols 1512 earlier than the starting symbol of the CORESET of the ULCI opportunity 1530, such as Fig.15 For example, uplink grant 1524 may correspond to Figure 8 802 in ULCI opportunity 1530, which is received by the UE in less than a threshold number of symbols (e.g., x symbols 810). As a result, UE 1502 may skip monitoring the next ULCI opportunity (1532), and the base station may similarly refrain from transmitting ULCI in ULCI opportunity 1530 (1534). Instead, base station 1504 may transmit ULCI 1536 for uplink transmission in the next ULCI opportunity 1538 that the UE may monitor, as shown in FIG. Fig.15 Explained.

[0125] Fig.16 Another example call flow diagram 1600 between a UE 1602 and a base station 1604 is illustrated. Fig.16 In one example, base station 1604 dynamically schedules uplink transmissions (e.g., eMBB data) of UE 1602 and sends scheduling information 1606 to notify the UE of the uplink transmissions. In this case, uplink grant 1606 may schedule the UE's uplink transmissions on the NUL or SUL carrier of the cell. UE 1602 then determines whether to monitor the ULCI opportunity for the uplink transmission (1608), and similarly base station 1604 may determine whether UE 1602 will monitor the next ULCI opportunity 1610, as described above with reference to Fig.14 and 15 The base station may configure the UE to monitor at least one block of ULCI (1612), wherein each block corresponds to a SUL carrier or a NUL carrier, as described in reference Fig.11 For example, the base station 1604 may include at least one block (eg, Fig.11 Block 2 1106 and block 6 1108 in DCI 1102 of the UE 1604 are configured to correspond to the carrier on which the uplink transmission is scheduled (e.g., NUL or SUL carrier). Thereafter, the base station 1604 transmits a ULCI 1614 including the configured blocks in a ULCI opportunity 1610, and the UE 1602 receives the ULCI 1614 including the configured blocks.

[0126] Based on the received ULCI 1614, the UE 1602 applies the ULCI 1614 to the SUL carrier (1616) and / or the NUL carrier (1618) to cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmissions on the carriers and resources indicated in the configured block. For example, the scheduled uplink transmissions may correspond to Fig.12 The UE may then cancel its scheduled uplink transmission 1620 and / or NUL uplink transmission 1622 on the NUL carrier or the second uplink transmission 1208 on the SUL carrier, and the UE may then cancel its scheduled uplink transmission on the carrier to which it applies. Thus, the UE may cancel its SUL uplink transmission 1620 and / or NUL uplink transmission 1622.

[0127] In another example, the base station 1604 may dynamically schedule another uplink transmission (e.g., eMBB data) for the UE 1602 and send scheduling information 1624 to notify the UE of the uplink transmission. In this case, the uplink grant 1624 may also schedule the UE's uplink transmission on the NUL or SUL carrier of the cell. The UE 1602 then determines whether to monitor the ULCI opportunity for the uplink transmission (1626), and similarly the base station 1604 may determine whether the UE 1602 will monitor the next ULCI opportunity 1628, as described above with reference to FIG. Fig.14 and 15 The base station may configure only one block (1630) in the ULCI for the UE to monitor, where the block corresponds to both the SUL and NUL carriers, as described in reference Fig.11 For example, the base station 1604 may configure a block (eg, Fig.11 The base station 1604 may transmit a ULCI 1632 including the configured block in the ULCI opportunity 1628, and the UE 1602 may receive the ULCI 1632 including the configured block.

[0128] Based on the received ULCI 1632, the UE 1602 may apply the ULCI 1632 to the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier (1634) to cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmissions on the carriers and resources indicated in the configured block. For example, the scheduled uplink transmissions may correspond to Fig.12 The UE then cancels its scheduled uplink transmission on the carrier to which it applies. Thus, the UE may cancel its SUL uplink transmission or NUL uplink transmission 1636.

[0129] Fig.17 Another example call flow diagram 1700 between a UE 1702 and a base station 1704 is illustrated. Fig.17 In one example, base station 1704 schedules an uplink transmission (e.g., eMBB data) for UE 1702 and sends scheduling information 1706 to notify the UE of the uplink transmission. Uplink grant 1706 may schedule the UE's uplink transmission on a NUL carrier or a SUL carrier of the cell. UE 1702 then determines whether to monitor a ULCI opportunity for the uplink transmission (1708), and similarly base station 1704 may determine whether UE 1702 will monitor the next ULCI opportunity 1710, as described above with reference to Fig.14 and 15 The base station may configure one or two blocks of ULCI (1712) for the UE to monitor, where each block corresponds to a SUL or NUL carrier, such as in combination with Fig.16 Thereafter, the base station 1704 may transmit a ULCI 1714 including the configured block in the ULCI opportunity 1710, and the UE 1702 may receive the ULCI 1714 including the configured block.

[0130] Based on the received ULCI 1714, the UE 1702 may cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmission on the SUL or NUL carrier based on one or more actions or behaviors, as described above with reference to Fig.13As described. Base station 1704 may configure the UE to perform one or more of these behaviors on the SUL and / or NUL carriers (1716), and may send these configurations to UE 1702. For example, base station 1704 may send SUL behavior configuration 1718 and NUL behavior configuration 1720 to UE 1702 to indicate that the UE may perform one or more of the following actions when canceling its uplink transmission on SUL or NUL, respectively: stop transmission without recovery, stop transmission with recovery, or reduce transmission power. SUL behavior configuration 1718 and / or NUL behavior configuration 1720 may be included in uplink grant 1706, ULCI 1714, or a separate message, such as Fig.17 The behavior configured for the SUL carrier may be different from the behavior configured for the NUL carrier.

[0131] The UE 1702 may then cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmissions according to the received configuration 1722. For example, the SUL behavior configuration 1718 may configure the UE to stop its SUL uplink transmissions 1724 without recovery, while the NUL behavior configuration 1720 may configure the UE to reduce its transmission power 1726 instead of stopping its NUL uplink transmissions. The base station 1704 may configure the UE 1702 to perform any of the actions described above on the NUL or SUL carrier when canceling at least a portion of its uplink transmissions.

[0132] Fig.18 1800 is a flow chart of a wireless communication method. The method may be performed by a UE (e.g., UE 104, 350, 1402, 1502, 1602, 1702; apparatus 2002 / 2002'; processing system 2114, which may include memory 360 and may be the entire UE 350 or a component of the UE 350 (such as TX processor 368, RX processor 356 and / or controller processor 359)). Optional aspects are illustrated with dashed lines. The method allows the UE to selectively monitor ULCI opportunities and corresponding transmissions of ULCI opportunities by base stations (e.g., base stations 102 / 180, 310, 1404, 1504, 1604, 1704) and determine whether the uplink transmission to be canceled is carried on the NUL carrier or SUL carrier of the cellular cell based on the ULCI.

[0133] At 1802, the UE receives scheduling information for uplink transmission from a base station. The uplink transmission may include PUCCH, PUSCH, SRS, etc. For example, 1802 may be performed by the receiving component 2004. For example, referring to Fig.14, base station 1404 schedules uplink transmission (e.g., eMBB data) of UE 1402 and sends scheduling information 1406 to notify the UE of the uplink transmission. The UE receives the scheduling information from the base station. Similar operations are performed in Fig.15 , 16 and 17.

[0134] At 1804, the UE determines whether to monitor at least one ULCI opportunity from the base station based on the scheduling information. For example, 1804 can be performed by the determination component 2006. For example, referring to Fig.14 , UE 1402 determines whether to monitor the ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission (1408). For example, the UE may determine to monitor the ULCI opportunity if the base station has previously scheduled an uplink transmission for the UE that may be punctured or cancelled by the ULCI and has at least one symbol falling within the corresponding window of the ULCI opportunity, as described above with reference to Figure 6 and 7 As described in the first aspect. Similarly, Fig.15 , UE 1502 determines whether to monitor the ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission (1508). For example, UE 1502 may determine to monitor the ULCI opportunity if the UE receives a dynamically scheduled uplink grant at least a certain number of symbols earlier than the ULCI opportunity associated with the uplink transmission, as described above with reference to Figure 8 and 9 As described in the second aspect.

[0135] In one aspect, the UE may determine to skip monitoring at least one ULCI opportunity when the UE is not scheduled for a corresponding uplink transmission. The UE may determine to skip monitoring the ULCI opportunity when the UE is not scheduled for uplink transmission in any symbol of a corresponding time domain resource set associated with the ULCI opportunity. For example, referring to Fig.14 , when UE 1402 determines whether to monitor another ULCI opportunity (1422), base station 1404 has not yet scheduled a subsequent uplink transmission and UE 1402 has not received scheduling information for such uplink transmission. As a result, UE 1402 will skip monitoring the ULCI opportunity (1428), for example at 1806.

[0136] On the other hand, when the scheduling information schedules the UE to perform uplink transmission, the UE may determine to monitor at least one ULCI opportunity. Each ULCI opportunity may be associated with a corresponding time domain resource set for the uplink transmission, and the UE determines to monitor the ULCI opportunity when the UE is scheduled for uplink transmission in at least one symbol of the corresponding time domain resource set associated with the ULCI opportunity. The UE may determine the corresponding time domain resource set associated with the ULCI opportunity as the union of multiple configured time domain resources associated with the ULCI opportunity. For example, referring to Fig.14 , when UE 1402 determines whether to monitor ULCI opportunities for uplink transmission (1408), base station 1404 has previously scheduled (e.g., scheduling information 1406 for eMBB data) uplink transmissions of UE 1402 that may be cancelled by ULCI and have at least one symbol falling within the corresponding window. Therefore, UE 1402 will determine to monitor ULCI opportunities 1412. As a result, UE will monitor ULCI opportunities (1414) and UE 1402 will receive ULCI 1416.

[0137] The UE may also determine to skip monitoring the ULCI opportunity when the UE is scheduled for uplink transmission and the uplink transmission is restricted from being punctured based on the ULCI. Fig.14 , when UE 1402 determines whether to monitor the next ULCI opportunity (1434), base station 1404 previously sends scheduling information 1432 for new uplink transmission to UE 1402, and the new uplink transmission is restricted from being punctured based on ULCI. In this case, the UE can determine (e.g., based on scheduling information 1432) that the uplink transmission cannot be punctured or canceled by ULCI. As a result, UE 1402 will skip monitoring the next ULCI opportunity (1440).

[0138] In some aspects, the uplink transmission may be scheduled on the same cell as the ULCI occasion. In other aspects, the uplink transmission may be scheduled on a different cell than the ULCI occasion. For example, referring to Fig.14 , after the UE monitors the ULCI opportunity (1414) and receives the ULCI 1416, the UE 1402 will cancel its scheduled uplink transmission (1418), as indicated by the canceled uplink transmission 1420. As mentioned above Figure 6 As described, the uplink transmission 1420 may be on the same serving cell as the associated ULCI opportunity 1412 or on a different serving cell than the associated ULCI opportunity 1412 .

[0139] In additional aspects, corresponding time-domain resource sets may overlap in time. Fig.14 , when UE 1402 determines whether to monitor another ULCI opportunity (1422), UE 1402 will skip monitoring ULCI opportunity 1426 (1428). Figure 7 As depicted, the window associated with ULCI opportunity 1426 may overlap with other windows associated with other ULCI opportunities (eg, forming overlapping portions 726 and 728 ).

[0140] If the uplink transmission is cancelled in the ULCI in the first ULCI opportunity associated with the corresponding time domain resource set overlapping in time, the UE determines not to monitor the second ULCI opportunity associated with the time domain resource set overlapping in time, for example, as combined with Figure 7 as described.

[0141] In other aspects, more than one ULCI opportunity may be associated with different portions of the same uplink transmission. Fig.14 , when UE 1402 determines whether to monitor another ULCI opportunity (1422), UE 1402 will skip monitoring ULCI opportunity 1426 (1428). Figure 7 As described, different portions of the uplink transmission (e.g., uplink transmission portions 730 and 732) may include at least one symbol within different windows associated with ULCI opportunities, including ULCI opportunity 1426. If a first portion of the uplink transmission is canceled by a first ULCI in a first ULCI opportunity and the UE cancels a second portion of the uplink transmission corresponding to a second ULCI opportunity, the UE determines not to monitor the second ULCI opportunity.

[0142] In another aspect, for example, when the uplink transmission for the UE is dynamically scheduled, the UE may further determine whether to monitor at least one ULCI opportunity based on the time interval between the scheduling information and the ULCI opportunity. When the scheduling information is received a threshold number of symbols before the at least one ULCI opportunity, the UE may determine to monitor the at least one ULCI opportunity. For example, the threshold number of symbols may be 1. For example, referring to Fig.15 , when UE 1502 determines whether to monitor ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission (1508), base station 1504 has dynamically scheduled uplink transmission of UE 1502, and the grant of the uplink transmission is received by UE 1502 at least a threshold number of symbols 1512 (e.g., x symbols, where x=1 or another number) earlier than the starting symbol of the CORESET of ULCI opportunity 1514. Therefore, UE 1502 will determine to monitor ULCI opportunity 1514.

[0143] Finally, at 1808, the UE can monitor at least one ULCI opportunity based on the determination at 1804. For example, 1808 can be performed by monitoring component 2008. Therefore, UE 1402 may monitor ULCI opportunities (1414). Similarly, referring to Fig.15 , when UE 1502 determines whether to monitor ULCI opportunities for uplink transmission (1508), base station 1504 has dynamically scheduled uplink transmission for UE 1502, and the grant of the uplink transmission is received by UE 1502 at least a threshold number of symbols 1512 earlier than the starting symbol of the CORESET of the ULCI opportunity 1514. As a result, the UE can monitor the ULCI opportunity (1516).

[0144] Fig.19 1900 is a flow chart of a wireless communication method. The method allows the UE to determine whether the uplink transmission to be canceled is carried on the NUL carrier or SUL carrier of the cellular cell based on the ULCI, and selectively monitors the ULCI opportunity and the corresponding transmission of the ULCI opportunity by the base station (e.g., base station 102 / 180, 310, 1404, 1504, 1604, 1704).

[0145] At 1908, the UE receives scheduling information for uplink transmission from the base station. The uplink transmission may include PUCCH, PUSCH, SRS, etc. For example, 1908 may be performed by the receiving component 2004. 1908 may correspond to the above description. Fig.18 of 1802.

[0146] At 1910, the UE determines whether to monitor at least one ULCI opportunity from the base station based on the scheduling information. For example, 1910 may be performed by the determining component 2006. 1904 may correspond to the above description. Fig.18 of 1804.

[0147] At 1914, the UE may monitor at least one ULCI opportunity based on the determination at 1910. For example, 1914 may be performed by monitoring component 2008. Alternatively, at 1912, the UE may determine to skip monitoring the at least one ULCI opportunity when the UE has not been scheduled for a corresponding uplink transmission. 1912 and 1914 may correspond to 1806 and 1808 described above, respectively.

[0148] At 1902, the UE may receive a configuration for monitoring at least one block of a ULCI based on scheduling information, the ULCI comprising a plurality of blocks, wherein the configuration indicates at least one of a first block corresponding to a SUL carrier in a cell or a second block corresponding to a NUL carrier in the cell. For example, the receiving configuration at 1902 may be performed by the configuration component 2012. For example, referring to Fig.16 , the base station configures separate blocks of ULCI (1612) for the UE to monitor, where each block corresponds to a SUL or NUL carrier, as described above with reference to Fig.11 As described in the third aspect. For example, the base station 1604 may transfer one or two blocks (eg, Fig.11 Block 2 1106 and block 6 1108 of DCI 1102 are configured to correspond to the carrier on which the uplink transmission is scheduled (e.g., NUL or SUL carrier). Thereafter, base station 1604 transmits ULCI 1614 including the configured blocks in ULCI opportunity 1610, and UE 1602 receives ULCI 1614 including the configured blocks.

[0149] In one aspect, the first block corresponding to the SUL carrier may be separate from the second block corresponding to the NUL carrier. In this aspect, the UE may apply the received ULCI to the SUL carrier to cancel the uplink transmission scheduled at the SUL carrier when the received ULCI includes the indication in the first block at 1916. Alternatively or additionally, at 1918, the UE may apply the received ULCI to the NUL carrier to cancel the uplink transmission scheduled at the NUL carrier when the received ULCI includes the indication in the second block. For example, 1916 and 1918 may be performed by the applying component 2014. For example, referring to Fig.16 After UE 1602 receives ULCI 1614 including the configured block, UE 1602 applies ULCI 1614 to the SUL carrier (1616) and / or NUL carrier (1618) to cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmission on the carrier and resources indicated in the configured block. For example, the scheduled uplink transmission may correspond to Fig.12The UE may then cancel its scheduled uplink transmission 1620 and / or NUL uplink transmission 1622 on the NUL carrier or the second uplink transmission 1208 on the SUL carrier, and the UE may then cancel its scheduled uplink transmission on the carrier to which it applies. Thus, the UE may cancel its SUL uplink transmission 1620 and / or NUL uplink transmission 1622.

[0150] In another aspect, the first block corresponding to the SUL carrier may be the same as the second block corresponding to the NUL carrier, for example, the UE may be configured to monitor a single block at 1902. In this aspect, the UE may apply the received ULCI to the SUL carrier at 1916 and apply the received ULCI to the NUL carrier at 1918 to cancel uplink transmissions scheduled at the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier. For example, 1916, 1918 may be performed by the application component 2014. For example, referring to Fig.16 , after the UE 1602 receives the ULCI 1614 including the configured block, the UE 1602 applies the ULCI 1614 to the SUL carrier (1616) and the NUL carrier (1618) to cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmissions on the carriers and resources indicated in the configured block. In certain aspects, the base station may configure the same block for both the SUL carrier or the NUL carrier, in which case the UE may apply the ULCI on both the SUL and NUL carriers. Thus, the UE may cancel its SUL uplink transmission 1620 and NUL uplink transmission 1622.

[0151] The UE may receive, at 1902, a configuration for monitoring a block of a ULCI for a cell, the ULCI comprising a plurality of blocks, wherein the block is associated with a SUL carrier in the cell or a NUL carrier in the cell. The configuration may indicate whether the ULCI is associated with a SUL carrier or a NUL carrier. For example, 1902 may be performed by a configuration component 2012. For example, referring to Fig.16 , the base station may configure only one block of ULCI (1630) for the UE to monitor, where the block corresponds to the SUL or NUL carrier, as described above with reference to Fig.11 As described in the fourth aspect. For example, the base station 1604 may include a block (eg, Fig.11 Block 2 1106 or block 6 1108 of the DCI 1102 of the UE 1604 is configured to correspond to the carrier on which the uplink transmission is scheduled (e.g., the NUL or SUL carrier). Thereafter, the base station 1604 transmits a ULCI 1632 including the configured block in the ULCI opportunity 1628, and the UE 1602 receives the ULCI 1632 including the configured block.

[0152] At 1916 and 1918, the UE may apply the received ULCI to the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier, wherein the UE punctures or cancels uplink transmissions scheduled at the resources indicated in the ULCI. For example, 1916 and 1918 may be performed by the application component 2014. For example, referring to Fig.16 After the UE receives the ULCI 1632 including the configured block, the UE 1602 applies the ULCI 1632 to the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier (1634) to cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmission on the carrier and resources indicated in the configured block. For example, the scheduled uplink transmission may correspond to Fig.12 The UE then cancels its scheduled uplink transmission on the carrier to which it applies. Thus, the UE may cancel its SUL uplink transmission or NUL uplink transmission 1636.

[0153] At 1920, the UE may cancel at least a portion of the uplink transmission based on the received ULCI. For example, 1920 may be performed by the cancellation component 2016. For example, referring to Figure 7 After the UE 1702 receives the ULCI 1714 including the configured blocks to be monitored by the UE based on the determination (1708) of the ULCI opportunity to be monitored, the UE 1702 may cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmission on the SUL or NUL carrier based on one or more actions or behaviors, as described above with reference to Fig.13 as described.

[0154] At 1904, the UE may receive a first configuration for the SUL carrier to perform at least one of: stopping uplink transmission without recovery, stopping uplink transmission with recovery, or reducing transmission power in response to the received ULCI. Similarly, at 1906, the UE may receive a second configuration for the NUL carrier to perform at least one of: stopping uplink transmission without recovery, stopping uplink transmission with recovery, or reducing transmission power in response to the received ULCI. The first configuration for the SUL may be different from the second configuration for the NUL carrier. For example, the receiving configurations at 1904 and 1906 may be performed by the configuration component 2012. For example, with reference to Fig.17 , UE 1702 may receive SUL behavior configuration 1718 and NUL behavior configuration 1720 to indicate that the UE may perform one or more of the following actions when canceling its uplink transmission on SUL or NUL, respectively: stop transmission without recovery, stop transmission with recovery, or reduce transmission power. UE 1702 may then cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmission according to the received configuration (1722).

[0155] Fig. 20 2 is a conceptual data flow diagram 2000 illustrating data flow between different means / components in an example device 2002. The device may be a UE (e.g., UE 104, 350, 1402, 1502, 1602, 1702). The device includes a receiving component 2004 that receives scheduling information for uplink transmission from a base station 2050 (e.g., base station 102 / 180, 310, 1404, 1504, 1604, 1704), such as described in conjunction with 1802 and 1908. The device includes a determining component 2006 that determines whether to monitor at least one ULCI opportunity from the base station based on the scheduling information, such as described in conjunction with 1804 and 1910. The device may include a monitoring component 2008 that monitors the at least one ULCI opportunity based on determining that the at least one ULCI opportunity is valid, such as described in conjunction with 1808 and 1914. The apparatus includes a transmission component 2010 that transmits an uplink communication to a base station. The apparatus may include a configuration component 2012 that receives, via a receiving component 2004, a configuration for monitoring at least one block of ULCI, wherein the configuration indicates at least one of a first block corresponding to a SUL carrier in a cell or a second block corresponding to a NUL carrier in the cell, e.g., as described in conjunction with 1902. The apparatus may include an application component 2014 that applies the received ULCI to the SUL carrier to cancel an uplink transmission scheduled at the SUL carrier when the ULCI received (via the receiving component 2004) includes an indication in the first block, e.g., as described in conjunction with 1916. The application component 2014 also applies the received ULCI to the NUL carrier to cancel an uplink transmission scheduled at the NUL carrier when the ULCI received (via the receiving component 2004) includes an indication in the second block, e.g., as described in conjunction with 1918. Applying component 2014 further applies the received ULCI (via receiving component 2004 ) to the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier to cancel uplink transmissions scheduled at the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier, e.g., as described in conjunction with 1916 and 1918 .

[0156] The configuring component 2012 further receives (via the receiving component 2004) a configuration for a block for monitoring ULCI for a cell, wherein the block is associated with a SUL carrier in the cell or a NUL carrier in the cell, e.g., as described in conjunction with 1902. The applying component 2014 further applies the received ULCI to the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier, wherein the UE punctures or cancels uplink transmissions scheduled at resources indicated in the ULCI, e.g., as described in conjunction with 1916, 1918. The apparatus 2002 may further include a cancelling component 2016 that cancels at least a portion of the uplink transmission based on the received ULCI, e.g., as described in conjunction with 1920. The configuring component 2012 further receives (via the receiving component 2004) a first configuration for the SUL carrier to perform at least one of: stopping uplink transmissions without recovery, stopping uplink transmissions with recovery, or reducing transmission power in response to the received ULCI, e.g., as described in conjunction with 1904. Configuration component 2012 further receives (via receiving component 2004) a second configuration for the NUL carrier to perform at least one of the following in response to the received ULCI: stop uplink transmission without recovery, stop uplink transmission with recovery, or reduce transmission power, wherein the first configuration for the SUL carrier is different from the second configuration for the NUL carrier, for example as described in conjunction with 1906.

[0157] The apparatus may include executing Fig.18 and 19 The additional components of each box of the algorithm in the preceding flowchart. Thus, Fig.18 and 19 Each block in the aforementioned flow chart may be performed by a component and the device may include one or more of these components. These components may be one or more hardware components specifically configured to perform the process / algorithm, implemented by a processor configured to perform the process / algorithm, stored in a computer-readable medium for implementation by a processor, or some combination thereof.

[0158] Fig.2121 is a diagram 2100 illustrating an example of a hardware implementation of a device 2002' employing a processing system 2114. The processing system 2114 may be implemented with a bus architecture generally represented by a bus 2124. Depending on the specific application of the processing system 2114 and the overall design constraints, the bus 2124 may include any number of interconnecting buses and bridges. The bus 2124 links various circuits together, including one or more processors and / or hardware components (represented by the processor 2104, components 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and computer readable medium / memory 2106). The bus 2124 may also link various other circuits, such as timing sources, peripherals, voltage regulators, and power management circuits, which are well known in the art and therefore will not be described further.

[0159] The processing system 2114 may be coupled to the transceiver 2110. The transceiver 2110 is coupled to one or more antennas 2120. The transceiver 2110 provides a means for communicating with various other devices via a transmission medium. The transceiver 2110 receives signals from one or more antennas 2120, extracts information from the received signals, and provides the extracted information to the processing system 2114 (specifically, the receiving component 2004). In addition, the transceiver 2110 receives information from the processing system 2114 (specifically, the transmission component 2010) and generates a signal to be applied to the one or more antennas 2120 based on the received information. The processing system 2114 includes a processor 2104 coupled to a computer-readable medium / memory 2106. The processor 2104 is responsible for general processing, including the execution of software stored on the computer-readable medium / memory 2106. [0160] In one configuration, an apparatus 2002 / 2002' for wireless communication includes means for receiving scheduling information for uplink transmission from a base station; and means for determining whether to monitor at least one uplink cancel indication (ULCI) opportunity from the base station based on the scheduling information and based on a time interval between the scheduling information and an ULCI opportunity.

[0164] In one configuration, the apparatus 2002 / 2002' may further include means for applying the received ULCI to the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier to cancel uplink transmissions scheduled at the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier.

[0165] In one configuration, the apparatus 2002 / 2002' may further include means for receiving a configuration for monitoring a block of ULCI for a cell, wherein the block is associated with a supplementary uplink (SUL) carrier in the cell or a non-supplementary uplink (NUL) carrier in the cell.

[0166] In one configuration, the apparatus 2002 / 2002' may further include means for applying the received ULCI to the SUL carrier and the NUL carrier, wherein the UE punctures or cancels uplink transmissions scheduled at resources indicated in the ULCI.

[0167] In one configuration, the apparatus 2002 / 2002' may further include means for canceling at least a portion of the uplink transmission based on the received ULCI.

[0168] In one configuration, the apparatus 2002 / 2002' may further include means for receiving a first configuration for a supplemental uplink (SUL) carrier to at least one of stop uplink transmission without recovery, stop uplink transmission with recovery, or reduce transmission power in response to a received ULCI.

[0169] In one configuration, the apparatus 2002 / 2002' may further include means for receiving a second configuration for a non-supplemental uplink (NUL) carrier to perform at least one of: stopping uplink transmission without recovery, stopping uplink transmission with recovery, or reducing transmission power in response to a received ULCI, wherein the first configuration for the SUL is different from the second configuration for the NUL.

[0170] The aforementioned means may be one or more of the aforementioned components of the device 2002 and / or the processing system 2114 of the device 2002' configured to perform the functions recited by the aforementioned means. As described above, the processing system 2114 may include the TX processor 368, the RX processor 356, and the controller / processor 359. Thus, in one configuration, the aforementioned means may be the TX processor 368, the RX processor 356, and the controller / processor 359 configured to perform the functions recited by the aforementioned means.

[0171] Fig. 22 2200 is a flow chart of a wireless communication method. The method may be performed by a base station (e.g., base station 102 / 180, 310, 1404, 1504, 1604, 1704); equipment 2402 / 2402'; processing system 2514, which may include memory 376 and may be the entire base station 310 or a component of the base station 310 (such as TX processor 316, RX processor 370 and / or controller / processor 375). Optional aspects are illustrated with dashed lines. The method allows the base station to transmit ULCI based on the selective monitoring of ULCI opportunities by the UE (e.g., UE 104, 350, 1402, 1502, 1602, 1702) and configure in the ULCI whether the uplink to be cancelled is carried on the NUL or SUL.

[0172] At 2202, the base station schedules the UE to perform uplink transmission. For example, 2202 can be performed by the scheduling component 2406.

[0173] At 2204, the base station determines whether the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission. For example, 2204 can be performed by the determination component 2408. For example, referring to Fig.14 , the base station 1404 may determine whether the UE 1402 is to monitor the ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission (1410). Similarly, Fig.15 , base station 1504 may determine whether UE 1502 is to monitor the ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission (1510).

[0174] In one aspect, the ULCI opportunity is associated with a corresponding set of time domain resources for the uplink transmission being cancelled. Figure 6 , the UE may receive multiple ULCI opportunities 602, 604, 606, 608, 610, 612 from the base station, where each ULCI opportunity corresponds to a respective window 614, 616, 618, etc. in the combined resource set 620 for uplink transmission 622, 624. Thus, the ULCI opportunity 602 may be associated with a time domain resource set within the window 614, the ULCI opportunity 604 may be associated with a time domain resource set within the window 616, and so on. Each window may span, for example, multiple symbols in the combined resource set 620.

[0175] In another aspect, the base station determines whether the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity based on the time interval between the scheduled and ULCI opportunities for uplink transmission. For example, the base station may determine that the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity if the grant for scheduling uplink transmission is transmitted at least a threshold number of symbols before the ULCI opportunity. The threshold number of symbols may be 1 or another number. For example, referring to Fig.15, when the base station 1504 determines whether the UE 1502 will monitor the ULCI opportunity (1510), the base station 1504 transmits a dynamically scheduled uplink grant 1506 to the UE 1502 at least a threshold number of symbols 1512 (e.g., x symbols, where x=1 or another number) earlier than the starting symbol of the CORESET of the ULCI opportunity 1514. Therefore, the base station 1504 will determine that the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity 1514. As a result, the base station 1504 will transmit the ULCI 1518 in the ULCI opportunity 1514.

[0176] At 2206, in the event that the UE is to monitor the ULCI opportunity, the base station transmits a ULCI at the ULCI opportunity, the ULCI canceling at least a portion of the uplink transmission. For example, 2206 can be performed by the ULCI component 2410 and the transmission component 2412. For example, referring to Fig.14 , when the base station 1404 determines whether the UE 1402 will monitor the ULCI opportunity (1410), the base station 1404 has previously scheduled (e.g., scheduling information 1406 for eMBB data) an uplink transmission of the UE 1402 that may be cancelled by the ULCI and has at least one symbol falling within the corresponding window. Therefore, the base station 1404 will determine that the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity 1412. As a result, the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity (1414), the base station 1404 will transmit the ULCI 1416 in the ULCI opportunity 1412, and the UE 1402 will receive the ULCI 1416. Based on the received ULCI 1416, the UE 1402 will cancel its scheduled uplink transmission (1418), as indicated by the cancelled uplink transmission 1420.

[0177] In one aspect, the base station refrains from transmitting the ULCI in the ULCI opportunity when the base station determines that the UE will not monitor the ULCI opportunity. Fig.14 , when the base station 1404 determines whether the UE will monitor the subsequent ULCI opportunity (1424), the base station 1404 has not yet scheduled the subsequent uplink transmission. As a result, the UE 1402 will skip monitoring this ULCI opportunity (1428), and the base station will refrain from transmitting ULCI in the ULCI opportunity 1426 (1430). Similarly, referring to Fig.15 , when the base station 1504 determines whether the UE will monitor the next ULCI opportunity (1528), the base station may determine that the dynamically scheduled uplink grant 1524 will be received by the UE 1502 less than the threshold number of symbols 1512 earlier than the starting symbol of the CORESET of the ULCI opportunity 1530. As a result, the UE 1502 will skip monitoring the next ULCI opportunity (1532), and the base station will refrain from transmitting the ULCI in the ULCI opportunity 1530 (1534).

[0178] As illustrated at 2208, the base station may refrain from transmitting a ULCI to the UE in a particular ULCI opportunity if the base station determines at 2204 that the UE will not monitor the ULCI opportunity.

[0179] Finally, at 2210, the base station transmits the ULCI in the next ULCI opportunity if the ULCI opportunity is less than the threshold number of symbols after the grant. For example, 2210 can be performed by the ULCI component 2410 and the transmission component 2412. For example, referring to Fig.15 , when the base station 1504 determines whether the UE will monitor the next ULCI opportunity (1528), the base station may determine that the dynamically scheduled uplink grant 1524 will be received by the UE 1502 less than the threshold number of symbols 1512 earlier than the starting symbol of the CORESET of the ULCI opportunity 1530. As a result, the UE 1502 will skip monitoring the next ULCI opportunity (1532), and the base station will refrain from transmitting the ULCI in the ULCI opportunity 1530 (1534). Instead, the base station 1504 may transmit the ULCI 1536 for uplink transmission in the next ULCI opportunity 1538 that the UE may monitor.

[0180] Fig.23 2300 is a flow chart of a wireless communication method. The method allows the base station to configure in the ULCI whether the uplink transmission to be canceled is carried on the NUL or SUL and transmit the ULCI based on the selective monitoring of the ULCI opportunity by the UE (e.g., UE 104, 350, 1402, 1502, 1602, 1702).

[0181] At 2308, the base station schedules the UE for uplink transmission. For example, 2202 can be performed by the scheduling component 2406. 2208 can correspond to Fig. 22 of 2202, as described above.

[0182] At 2310, the base station determines whether the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission. For example, 2310 can be performed by the determination component 2408. 2310 can correspond to the above Fig. 22 of 2204.

[0183] At 2312, if the UE will monitor the ULCI opportunity, the base station transmits ULCI at the ULCI opportunity, which cancels at least a portion of the uplink transmission. For example, 2312 can be performed by ULCI component 2410 and transmission component 2412. Otherwise, as illustrated at 2314, the base station can refrain from transmitting ULCI to the UE in the ULCI opportunity if the base station determines at 2310 that the UE will not monitor the particular ULCI opportunity. 2312 and 2314 can correspond to the above-described Fig. 22 2206 and 2208.

[0184] At 2302, the base station configures the UE to monitor at least one block of ULCI. For example, 2302 can be performed by configuration component 2414. The configuration can indicate at least one of a first block corresponding to a SUL carrier in a cell or a second block corresponding to a NUL carrier in the cell. In some aspects, the first block corresponding to the SUL carrier is separate from the second block corresponding to the NUL carrier. In other aspects, the first block corresponding to the SUL carrier is the same as the second block corresponding to the NUL carrier. For example, reference Fig.16 , the base station may configure separate blocks of ULCI (1612) for the UE to monitor, where each block corresponds to a SUL or a NUL, as described above with reference to Fig.11 As described in the third aspect. For example, the base station 1604 may transfer one or two blocks (eg, Fig.11 Block 2 1106 and block 6 1108 of DCI 1102 of the embodiment are configured to correspond to the carrier (e.g., NUL or SUL) on which the uplink transmission is scheduled. In some aspects, the base station may configure the same block (e.g., Fig.11 Block 2 1106) in is configured for both SUL or NUL.

[0185] In yet another aspect, the base station may cancel a portion of the uplink transmission in only one of a first block corresponding to a supplementary uplink (SUL) carrier in the cell or a second block corresponding to a non-supplementary uplink (NUL) carrier in the cell. Fig.16 , the base station 1604 transmits a ULCI 1614 including the configured block in the ULCI opportunity 1610. Based on the received ULCI 1614, the UE 1602 applies the ULCI 1614 to the SUL carrier (1616) and the NUL carrier (1618) to cancel at least a portion of its scheduled uplink transmission on the carrier and resources indicated in the configured block. Thus, the base station can cancel the SUL uplink transmission 1620 or the NUL uplink transmission 1622.

[0186] At 2304, the base station may configure the UE to have a first configuration for the SUL carrier to perform at least one of the following in response to the received ULCI: stop uplink transmission without recovery, stop uplink transmission with recovery, or reduce transmission power. Similarly, at 2306, the base station may configure the UE to have a second configuration for the NUL carrier to perform at least one of the following in response to the received ULCI: stop uplink transmission without recovery, stop uplink transmission with recovery, or reduce transmission power, wherein the first configuration for the SUL is different from the second configuration for the NUL. For example, 2304 and 2306 can be performed by the configuration component 2414. For example, with reference to Fig.17 , the base station 1704 may send a SUL behavior configuration 1718 and a NUL behavior configuration 1720 to the UE 1702 to indicate that the UE may perform one or more of the following actions when canceling its uplink transmission on the SUL or NUL, respectively: stop transmission without recovery, stop transmission with recovery, or reduce transmission power. The SUL behavior configuration 1718 and / or the NUL behavior configuration 1720 may be included in the uplink grant 1706, the ULCI 1714, or a separate message, such as Fig.17 Explained.

The apparatus includes a determining component 2408 that determines whether the UE will monitor a ULCI opportunity for uplink transmission, for example, as described in conjunction with 2204 and 2310. The apparatus includes a ULCI component 2410 that transmits a ULCI at a ULCI opportunity via a transmission component 2412 of the apparatus 2402, if the UE is to monitor the ULCI opportunity, the ULCI canceling at least a portion of the uplink transmission, e.g., as described in conjunction with 2206 and 2312. The ULCI component 2410 may also transmit the ULCI in a next ULCI opportunity via the transmission component 2412 if the ULCI opportunity is less than a threshold number of symbols after a grant that schedules uplink transmission, e.g., as described in conjunction with 2210. The apparatus may include a configuration component 2414 that configures the UE to monitor at least one block of the ULCI, e.g., as described in conjunction with 2302. The configuration component 2414 may also configure the UE to have a first configuration for the SUL carrier to perform at least one of: stopping uplink transmission without recovery, stopping uplink transmission with recovery, or reducing transmission power in response to the received ULCI, e.g., as described in conjunction with 2304. Additionally, configuration component 2414 can configure the UE to have a second configuration for the NUL carrier to perform at least one of: stop uplink transmission without recovery, stop uplink transmission with recovery, or reduce transmission power in response to the received ULCI, wherein the first configuration for the SUL is different from the second configuration for the NUL, e.g., as described in conjunction with 2306. Transmission component 2412 can transmit scheduling information from scheduling component 2406, the ULCI from ULCI component 2410, and the configuration from configuration component 2414 to the UE.
