Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION(S)

[0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 949,959, filed on December 18, 2019, entitled “Techniques for signaling uplink transmission configuration indicator states,” and U.S. Patent Application No. 17 / 081,602, filed on October 27, 2020, entitled “TECHNIQUES FOR SIGNALING UPLINK TRANSMISSION CONFIGURATION INDICATOR STATES,” both of which are expressly incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.

[0003] background

[0004] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to communication systems, and more particularly to techniques for signaling uplink transmission configuration indicator (TCI) status.

[0005] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various telecommunication services such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcast. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources. Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, and time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems.

[0006] These multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide common protocols that enable different wireless devices to communicate at city, country, region, and even global levels. An example telecommunication standard is the fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) technology. 5G NR technology is part of the continuous mobile broadband evolution promulgated by the third generation partnership project (3GPP) to meet new requirements associated with latency, reliability, security, scalability (e.g., with the Internet of Things (IoT)) and other requirements. 5G NR technology includes services associated with enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communication (mMTC), and ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC). Some aspects of 5G NR technology may be based on the fourth generation (4G) long term evolution (LTE) standard.

[0007] During beam management, different schemes including a spatial division multiplexing (SDM) scheme, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) scheme, or a time division multiplexing (TDM) scheme may be used across multiple transmission reception points. These schemes may allow for a more unified TCI framework for downlink (DL) beam indication and uplink (UL) beam indication. Although wireless networks provide signaling for configuring DL transmissions according to different schemes, these wireless networks do not provide signaling for configuring UL transmissions based on each scheme. Accordingly, there is a need for further improvements in 5G NR technology.

[0025] Detailed Description

[0026] The detailed description set forth below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings is intended as a description of various configurations and is not intended to represent the only configurations in which the concepts described herein may be practiced. This detailed description includes specific details to provide a thorough understanding of the various concepts. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that these concepts may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well-known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid diluting such concepts.

[0027] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various apparatus and methods. These apparatus and methods will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, components, circuits, processes, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as "elements"). These elements may be implemented using electronic hardware, computer software, or any combination thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and the design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0028] As an example, an element, or any part of an element, or any combination of elements may be implemented as a "processing system" including one or more processors. Examples of processors include: microprocessors, microcontrollers, graphics processing units (GPUs), central processing units (CPUs), application processors, digital signal processors (DSPs), reduced instruction set computing (RISC) processors, systems on chip (SoCs), baseband processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), programmable logic devices (PLDs), state machines, gating logic, discrete hardware circuits, and other suitable hardware configured to perform various functionalities described throughout this disclosure. One or more processors in a processing system may execute software. Software should be broadly interpreted as meaning instructions, instruction sets, codes, code segments, program codes, programs, subroutines, software components, applications, software applications, software packages, routines, subroutines, objects, executables, threads of execution, procedures, functions, etc., whether it is described in software, firmware, middleware, microcode, hardware description languages, or other terms.

[0029] Accordingly, in one or more example embodiments, the functions described may be implemented in hardware, software, or any combination thereof. If implemented in software, these functions may be stored or encoded on a computer-readable medium as one or more instructions or codes. Computer-readable media include computer storage media. Storage media may be any available medium that can be accessed by a computer. As an example and not limitation, such computer-readable media may include random access memory (RAM), read-only memory (ROM), electrically erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM), optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage, other magnetic storage devices, a combination of computer-readable media of the above types, or any other medium that may be used to store computer-executable code in the form of instructions or data structures that can be accessed by a computer.

[0030] Enhancements to multi-beam operations, such as frequency range 2 (FR2) and frequency range 1 (FR1), may include identifying and specifying features for facilitating more efficient (e.g., lower latency and overhead) downlink (DL) / uplink (UL) beam management to support higher intra-cell mobility and layer 1 (L1) / layer 2 (L2) centric inter-cell mobility and / or a larger number of configured transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states. These features may include: shared beams for DL and UL transmissions, particularly data and control transmission / reception for intra-band carrier aggregation (CA); a unified TCI framework for DL / UL beam indication; and enhancements to signaling mechanisms for the above features to improve latency and efficiency, such as more dynamic use of control signaling (as opposed to radio resource control (RRC) signals).

[0031] These enhancements may also include identifying and specifying features for facilitating UL beam selection for user equipment (UE) equipped with multiple panels, including: UL beam indication based on a unified TCI framework; enabling simultaneous transmission across multiple panels (STxMP); and / or enabling panel selection. These enhancements may also include studying UE-initiated or L1 event-driven beam management for reducing latency and the probability of beam failure events.

[0032] Additionally, enhancements to support for multiple transmit reception point (mTRP) deployments (which may target both FR1 and FR2) may include identifying and specifying features for using mTRP and / or multi-panels to improve stability and robustness (where reliability features are used as a benchmark) for channels other than the physical DL shared channel (PDSCH), such as the physical DL control channel (PDCCH), the physical UL shared channel (PUSCH), and the physical UL control channel (PUCCH). These enhancements may also include identifying and specifying features for enabling multi-TRP operation between cellular cells. These enhancements may also include evaluating and, if necessary, specifying enhancements for simultaneous multi-TRP transmissions with multi-panel reception.

[0033] For UL transmission, spatial division multiplexing (SDM) / frequency division multiplexing (FDM) / time division multiplexing (TRM) schemes across mTRPs can also be extended. By using these schemes for UL transmission, a more unified TCI framework for DL beam indication and UL beam indication can be achieved. Alternatively, the introduction of a UL-TCI framework and support for UL-TCI-based signaling similar to DL beam indication can be considered to support multi-panel enhancements for UL. In the context of DL, these schemes are supported as follows: Scheme 1 - SDM; Scheme 2a - FDM and one control word (CW); Scheme 2b - FDM and two CWs in the same transport block (TB); Scheme 3 - TDM within a time slot; and Scheme 4 - TDM in different time slots. These schemes can be extended for UL.

[0034] According to various aspects of the present disclosure, multiple UL TCI states may be used to indicate UL transmissions. In an example, the multiple TCI states may be based on one or more SDM schemes, FDM schemes, or TDM schemes across the indicated UL TCI states.

[0035] In another aspect, multiple UL TCI states may be mapped to a single UL TCI code point of a DL configuration indicator (DCI) that is scheduling UL transmissions. The multiple UL TCI states may be indicated by signaling, such as one or more of a DCI signal, a media access control control element (MAC-CE) signal, or a radio resource control (RRC) signal. In some examples, the multiple UL TCI states are mapped to UL mTRP transmissions based on a single DCI.

[0036] In one aspect, multiple UL TCI states may be mapped to one composite mTRP UL TCI state in the DCI that is scheduling the UL transmission. Indications of these multiple UL TCI states may be signaled via, for example, a DCI signal, a MAC-CE signal, or an RRC signal. In one example, the UL transmission may include one or more sounding reference signals (SRS), PUCCH signals, PUSCH signals, or PRACH signals.

[0037] In the case of SDM, the UL signals indicated by the UL TCI states may be transmitted simultaneously in overlapping frequency resources. In the case of FDM, the UL signals indicated by the UL TCI states may be transmitted simultaneously in non-overlapping frequency resources. In the case of TDM, the signals indicated by the UL TCI states may be transmitted in different time resources (slot-based or sub-slot-based TDM).

[0038] On the other hand, at least one UL TCI code point may be mapped to multiple UL TCI states. For example, multiple UL TCI states may be mapped to a single DCI based on the UL mTRP operation mode. However, when the UE receives an indication of multiple UL TCI states, the UE may not be able to use some UL TCI states, for example, because the UL TCI state is not configured (for example, in the case where the relationship or UL TCI is not indicated for certain resources or when the scheduled UL transmission is within the time domain scheduling threshold). Accordingly, a default UL beam for SRS, PUCCH, PUSCH, or PRACH may be used based on a previously used TCI code point. In one example, the UL beam may depend on the lowest index or the highest index of a previously used UL TCI code point or on a most recently successfully used TCI code point.

[0039] Turning now to the drawings, various examples of techniques for signaling UL TCI status are depicted. It is to be understood that various aspects of the drawings may not be drawn to scale and are instead drawn for illustrative purposes.

[0040] refer to Figure 1 , a diagram illustrating an example of a wireless communication system and access network 100 is provided. The wireless communication system (also known as a wireless wide area network (WWAN)) includes a base station 102, a UE 104, an evolved packet core (EPC) 160, and a 5G core (5GC) 190.

[0041] The base station 102 may include a modem 140 having a TCI signaling component 142 configured to signal a plurality of TCI states and codepoints indicating the plurality of TCI states to the UE 104. For example, the TCI signaling component 142 may determine one or more capabilities of the UE 104, determine one or more UL TCI states for use by the UE 104 based on the one or more capabilities, and transmit signaling of the one or more UL TCI states to the UE 104.

[0042] In another example, the TCI signaling component 142 may transmit signaling to the UE 104 indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to one or more first UL TCI states, receive an UL transmission of one or more second UL TCI states based on a default UL TCI code point from the UE 104 in response to transmitting the signaling, determine based on the received UL transmission that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first code point are not configured for UL transmission, and store an indication that the one or more first UL TCI states are not configured by the UE 104 for UL transmission.

[0043] The UE 104 may include a modem 144 having a UL configuration component 146 configured to receive signaling from the base station 102 and transmit an UL transmission based on the signaling. For example, the UL configuration component 146 may receive signaling from the base station 102 indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to one or more first UL TCI states, determine that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first UL TCI code point are not configured for UL transmission, determine one or more second UL TCI states configured as default UL TCI code points for UL transmission in response to the one or more first UL TCI states not being configured, and transmit an UL transmission based on the one or more second UL TCI states to the base station.

[0044] In another example, the UL configuration component 146 may receive signaling from the base station 102 indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to one or more first UL TCI states, determine that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first UL TCI code point are not configured for UL transmission, determine one or more second UL TCI states configured as default UL TCI code points for UL transmission in response to the one or more first UL TCI states not being configured, and transmit a UL transmission based on the one or more second UL TCI states to the base station.

[0045] In one aspect, base stations 102 may include macro cells (high power cellular base stations) and / or small cells (low power cellular base stations). Macro cells include base stations. Small cells include femto cells, pico cells, and micro cells.

[0046] The base station 102 configured for 4G LTE (collectively referred to as the Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN)) can interface with the EPC 160 via a backhaul link 132 (e.g., an S1 interface). The base station 102 configured for 5G NR (collectively referred to as the Next Generation RAN (NG-RAN)) can interface with the 5GC 190 via a backhaul link 184. Among other functions, the base station 102 can also perform one or more of the following functions: delivery of user data, radio channel encryption and decryption, integrity protection, header compression, mobility control functions (e.g., handover, dual connectivity), inter-cell interference coordination, connection establishment and release, load balancing, distribution of non-access stratum (NAS) messages, NAS node selection, synchronization, radio access network (RAN) sharing, multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS), subscriber and equipment tracking, RAN information management (RIM), paging, positioning, and delivery of alert messages. Base stations 102 may communicate with each other directly or indirectly (e.g., through EPC 160 or 5GC 190) over backhaul links 134 (e.g., X2 interfaces). Each of backhaul links 132, 134, and 184 may be wired or wireless.

[0047] Base stations 102 may communicate wirelessly with UE 104. Each base station 102 may provide communication coverage for a respective geographic coverage area 110. There may be overlapping geographic coverage areas 110. For example, a small cell 102' may have a coverage area 110' that overlaps with the coverage area 110 of one or more macro base stations 102. A network including small cells and macro cells may be referred to as a heterogeneous network. A heterogeneous network may also include a home evolved B node (eNB) (HeNB), which may provide services to a restricted group referred to as a closed subscriber group (CSG). A communication link 120 between a base station 102 and a UE 104 may include a UL (also referred to as a reverse link) transmission from the UE 104 to the base station 102 and / or a DL (also referred to as a forward link) transmission from the base station 102 to the UE 104. The communication link 120 may use multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. These communication links may be through one or more carriers. The base station 102 / UE 104 may use spectrum of up to Y MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400 MHz, etc.) bandwidth for each carrier allocated in a carrier aggregation for a total of up to Yx MHz (x component carriers) for transmission in each direction. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other. The allocation of carriers may be asymmetric with respect to DL and UL (e.g., more or fewer carriers may be allocated to DL compared to UL). The component carriers may include a primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers. The primary component carrier may be referred to as a primary cell (PCell) and the secondary component carrier may be referred to as a secondary cell (SCell).

[0048] Some UEs 104 may communicate with each other using a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 158. The D2D communication link 158 may use DL / UL WWAN spectrum. The D2D communication link 158 may use one or more sidelink channels, such as a physical sidelink broadcast channel (PSBCH), a physical sidelink discovery channel (PSDCH), a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH), and a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH). The D2D communication may be through a variety of wireless D2D communication systems, such as, for example, FlashLinQ, WiMedia, Bluetooth, ZigBee, Wi-Fi based on the IEEE 802.11 standard, LTE, or NR.

[0049] The wireless communication system may further include a Wi-Fi access point (AP) 150 communicating with a Wi-Fi station (STA) 152 in the 5 GHz unlicensed spectrum via a communication link 154. When communicating in the unlicensed spectrum, the STA 152 / AP 150 may perform a clear channel assessment (CCA) to determine whether the channel is available prior to communication.

[0050] The small cell 102' may operate in a licensed and / or unlicensed spectrum. When operating in an unlicensed spectrum, the small cell 102' may employ NR and use the same 5 GHz unlicensed spectrum as used by the Wi-Fi AP 150. The small cell 102' employing NR in the unlicensed spectrum may boost the coverage of the access network and / or increase the capacity of the access network.

[0051] Whether a small cell 102' or a large cell (e.g., a macro base station), the base station 102 may include an eNB, a gB node (gNB), or other types of base stations. Some base stations (such as gNB 180) may operate in traditional sub-6 GHz spectrum, millimeter wave (mmW) frequencies, and / or near mmW frequencies to communicate with UE 104. When gNB 180 operates in mmW or near mmW frequencies, gNB 180 may be referred to as a mmW base station. Extremely high frequency (EHF) is part of the RF in the electromagnetic spectrum. EHF has a range of 30 GHz to 300 GHz and a wavelength between 1 mm and 10 mm. The radio waves in this band may be referred to as millimeter waves. Near mmW can be extended down to 3 GHz frequencies with a wavelength of 100 mm. The super high frequency (SHF) band extends between 3 GHz and 30 GHz, which is also referred to as centimeter waves. Communications using mmW / near mmW radio frequency bands have extremely high path loss and short range. The mmW base station 180 may utilize beamforming 182 with the UE 104 to compensate for the extremely high path loss and short range.

[0052] The EPC 160 may include a mobility management entity (MME) 162, other MMEs 164, a serving gateway 166, a multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) gateway 168, a broadcast multicast service center (BM-SC) 170, and a packet data network (PDN) gateway 172. The MME 162 may be in communication with a home subscriber server (HSS) 174. The MME 162 is a control node that handles signaling between the UE 104 and the EPC 160. In general, the MME 162 provides bearer and connection management. All user Internet Protocol (IP) packets are delivered through the serving gateway 166, which itself is connected to the PDN gateway 172. The PDN gateway 172 provides UE IP address allocation and other functions. The PDN gateway 172 and the BM-SC 170 are connected to IP services 176. The IP services 176 may include the Internet, an intranet, an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), a PS streaming service, and / or other IP services. The BM-SC 170 may provide functionality for MBMS user service provisioning and delivery. The BM-SC 170 may serve as an entry point for content provider MBMS transmissions, may be used to authorize and initiate MBMS bearer services within a public land mobile network (PLMN), and may be used to schedule MBMS transmissions. The MBMS gateway 168 may be used to distribute MBMS traffic to base stations 102 belonging to a multicast broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN) area that broadcasts a specific service, and may be responsible for session management (start / stop) and for collecting eMBMS-related charging information.

[0053] 5GC 190 may include access and mobility management function (AMF) 192, other AMF 193, session management function (SMF) 194, and user plane function (UPF) 195. AMF 192 may be in communication with unified data management (UDM) 196. AMF 192 is a control node that handles signaling between UE 104 and 5GC 190. In general, AMF 192 provides QoS flow and session management. All user Internet Protocol (IP) packets are delivered through UPF 195. UPF 195 provides UE IP address allocation and other functions. UPF 195 is connected to IP service 197. IP service 197 may include the Internet, intranet, IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), PS streaming service, and / or other IP services.

[0054] Base station 102 may also be referred to as gNB, B node, evolved B node (eNB), access point, base transceiver station, radio base station, radio transceiver, transceiver function, basic service set (BSS), extended service set (ESS), transmission reception point (TRP), or some other suitable term. Base station 102 provides an access point to EPC 160 or 5GC 190 for UE 104. Examples of UE 104 include cellular phones, smart phones, session initiation protocol (SIP) phones, laptops, personal digital assistants (PDAs), satellite radios, global positioning systems, multimedia devices, video devices, digital audio players (e.g., MP3 players), cameras, game consoles, tablet devices, smart devices, wearable devices, vehicles, electric meters, gas pumps, large or small kitchen appliances, health care devices, implants, sensors / actuators, displays, or any other similar functional devices. Some UEs 104 may be referred to as IoT devices (e.g., parking meters, gas pumps, ovens, vehicles, heart monitors, etc.). UE 104 may also be referred to as a station, a mobile station, a subscriber station, a mobile unit, a subscriber unit, a wireless unit, a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a wireless communication device, a remote device, a mobile subscriber station, an access terminal, a mobile terminal, a wireless terminal, a remote terminal, a handset, a user agent, a mobile client, a client, or some other suitable terminology.

[0055] refer to Figure 2 and Figure 3 , discloses example methods 200 and 300 of wireless communication. The methods 200 and 300 may be performed by Figure 1 UE 104 together with any components of UE 104 (see, e.g. Figure 4 ) is performed. For example, the methods 200 and 300 may be performed by one or more of the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more additional components / subcomponents of the UE 104.

[0056] Steering Figure 2At 202, the method 200 may optionally include transmitting an indication of one or more capabilities of the UE to a base station. For example, one or more of the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may be configured to transmit an indication of one or more capabilities of the UE 104 to the base station 102. Thus, the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may define means for transmitting an indication of one or more capabilities of the UE 104 to the base station 102. In an example, the one or more capabilities of the UE 104 may include, for example, an ability of the UE 104 to support multiple transmissions from multiple panels of the base station 102, or an ability of the UE 104 to support switching times between panels of the base station 102 for activating transmissions.

[0057] At 204, the method 200 may include receiving signaling indicating one or more UL TCI states from a base station. For example, one or more of the processor 412, transceiver 402, modem 144, UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of UE 104 may be configured to receive signaling indicating one or more UL TCI states from base station 102. Thus, the processor 412, transceiver 402, modem 144, UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of UE 104 may define a device for receiving signaling indicating one or more UL TCI states from base station 102. In one example, the signaling indicating one or more UL TCI states is indicated via a mapping of one or more UL TCI states to a single UL TCI code point. In one example, the signaling may be received via one or more of a DCI signal, a MAC-CE signal, or an RRC signal. In one example, the signaling may indicate the one or more UL TCI states via a mapping of one or more UL TCI states to a single composite mTRP UL TCI state.

[0058] In an example, one or more UL TCI states may be based on one or more of an SDM scheme, an FDM scheme, or a TDM scheme. When one or more UL TCI states are based on an SDM scheme, UL transmissions may be transmitted simultaneously in overlapping frequency resources. When one or more UL TCI states are based on an FDM scheme, UL transmissions may be transmitted simultaneously in non-overlapping frequency resources. When one or more UL TCI states are based on a TDM scheme, UL transmissions may be transmitted in different time resources.

[0059] At 206, the method 200 may include receiving signaling from the base station indicating a code point for scheduling one or more UL transmissions. For example, the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may be configured to receive signaling from the base station 102 indicating a code point for scheduling one or more UL transmissions. Thus, the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may define a means for receiving signaling from the base station 102 indicating a code point for scheduling one or more UL transmissions. In one example, the code point is a code, a string, or one or more bits of a DCI signal. In one example, the UL transmission is one or more of an SRS, a PUCCH, a PUSCH, or a PRACH.

[0060] At 208, the method 200 may include configuring one or more UL TCI states to be used by the UE for UL transmission based on the signaling indicating the one or more UL TCI states. For example, one or more of the processor 412, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may be configured to configure one or more UL TCI states to be used by the UE 104 for UL transmission based on the signaling indicating the one or more UL TCI states. Thus, the processor 412, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may define means for configuring one or more UL TCI states to be used by the UE 104 for UL transmission based on the signaling indicating the one or more UL TCI states. In an example, determining one or more UL TCI states may be further based on the signaling indicating a codepoint. In one example, one or more UL TCI states may be configured based on configuring one or more spatial relationship parameters of one or more beams and using ports or signals that satisfy quasi co-location (QCL) properties as indicated by the TCI state for UL transmission in scheduled time / frequency resources.

[0061] At 210, the method 200 may include transmitting, to the base station, a UL transmission based on the one or more UL TCI states. For example, one or more of the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may be configured to transmit, to the base station 102, a UL transmission based on the one or more UL TCI states. Thus, the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may define means for transmitting, to the base station 102, a UL transmission based on the one or more UL TCI states.

[0062] Steering Figure 3 At 302, the method 300 may include receiving signaling from a base station indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to one or more first UL TCI states. For example, one or more of the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may be configured to receive signaling from the base station 102 indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to one or more first UL TCI states. Thus, the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may define means for receiving signaling from the base station 102 indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to one or more first UL TCI states.

[0063] At 304, the method 300 may include determining that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first UL TCI code point are not configured for UL transmission. For example, one or more of the processor 412, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may be configured to determine that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first UL TCI code point are not configured for UL transmission. Thus, the processor 412, the transceiver, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may define means for determining that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first UL TCI code point are not configured for UL transmission.

[0064] At 306, the method 300 may include determining one or more second UL TCI states configured as default UL TCI code points for UL transmissions in response to the one or more first UL TCI states not being configured. For example, one or more of the processor 412, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may be configured to determine one or more second UL TCI states configured as default UL TCI code points for UL transmissions in response to the one or more first UL TCI states not being configured. Thus, the processor 412, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may define a means for determining one or more second UL TCI states configured as default UL TCI code points for UL transmissions in response to the one or more first UL TCI states not being configured.

[0065] At 308, the method 300 may include transmitting to the base station an UL transmission based on the one or more second UL TCI states. For example, one or more of the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may be configured to transmit to the base station 102 an UL transmission based on the one or more second UL TCI states. Thus, the processor 412, the transceiver 402, the modem 144, the UL configuration component 146, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the UE 104 may define means for transmitting to the base station 102 an UL transmission based on the one or more second UL TCI states.

[0073] In addition, for example, one or more filters 496 can be used by the RF front end 488 to filter the received signal to obtain an input RF signal. Similarly, in one aspect, for example, a corresponding filter 496 can be used to filter the output from the corresponding PA 498 to produce an output signal for transmission. [0076] refer to Figure 5 and Figure 6 , discloses example methods 500 and 600 of wireless communication. The methods 500 and 600 may be performed by Figure 1 The base station 102 together with any components of the base station 102 (see, e.g. Figure 7 ) is performed. For example, the methods 500 and 600 may be performed by one or more of the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more additional components / subcomponents of the base station 102.

[0077] Steering Figure 5 At 502, the method 500 may optionally include receiving an indication of one or more capabilities of the UE from the UE. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to receive an indication of one or more capabilities of the UE 104 from the UE 104. Thus, the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define means for receiving an indication of one or more capabilities of the UE 104 from the UE 104. In an example, the one or more capabilities of the UE 104 may include, for example, the ability of the UE 104 to support multiple transmissions from multiple panels of the base station 102, or the ability of the UE 104 to support switching times between panels of the base station 102 for activating transmissions.

[0078] At 504, method 500 may include determining one or more capabilities of the UE. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to determine one or more capabilities of the UE 104. Thus, the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define means for determining one or more capabilities of the UE 104. In an example, the one or more capabilities of the UE 104 may be determined based on a capability indication received from the UE 104. In another example, the one or more capabilities of the UE 104 may be determined based on stored data indicating the capabilities.

[0079] At 506, the method 500 may also determine one or more UL TCI states for use by the UE based on the one or more capabilities. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to determine one or more UL TCI states for use by the UE 104 based on the one or more capabilities. Thus, the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define a means for determining one or more UL TCI states for use by the UE 104 based on the one or more capabilities. In an example, the one or more UL TCI states may be based on one or more of an SDM scheme, an FDM scheme, or a TDM scheme. In an example, the base station 102 may determine one or more UL TCI states for the UE 104 based on the capability of the UE 104 to allow mapping of multiple UL TCI states to the same code point. These capabilities may include, for example, UE 104 supporting simultaneous transmission from multiple panels (e.g., at the UE 104 side) (e.g., as in SDM), UE 104 supporting switching timing between different beams for continuous UL transmission (e.g., as in TDM), or UE 104 supporting multiple beams (e.g., TCI states) being transmitted simultaneously from the same panel but different resource blocks (RBs) (e.g., as in FDM).

[0080] At 508, the method 500 may also include transmitting signaling of the one or more UL TCI states to the UE. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to transmit signaling of the one or more UL TCI states to the UE 104. Thus, the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define means for transmitting signaling of the one or more UL TCI states to the UE 104. In an example, the signaling of the one or more UL TCI states is transmitted via one or more of a DCI signal, a MAC-CE signal, or an RRC signal.

[0081] At 510, the method 500 may optionally include mapping the one or more UL TCI states to a code point of a signal that schedules one or more UL transmissions. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to map the one or more UL TCI states to a code point of a signal that schedules one or more UL transmissions. Thus, the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define a device for mapping the one or more UL TCI states to a code point of a signal that schedules one or more UL transmissions. In an example, the code point may be a code, a string, or one or more bits of a DCI signal.

[0082] At 512, method 500 may include transmitting signaling indicating the codepoint to the UE. For example, one or more of processor 712, transceiver 702, modem 140, TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of base station 102 may be configured to transmit signaling indicating the codepoint to UE 104. Thus, processor 712, transceiver 702, modem 140, TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of base station 102 may define means for transmitting signaling indicating the codepoint to UE 104.

[0083] At 514, the method 500 may optionally include receiving an UL transmission from the UE in response to the signaling, wherein the UL transmission is based on the one or more UL TCI states. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to receive an UL transmission from the UE 104 in response to the signaling, wherein the UL transmission is based on the one or more UL TCI states. Thus, the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define means for receiving an UL transmission from the UE 104 in response to the signaling, wherein the UL transmission is based on the one or more UL TCI states.

[0084] Steering Figure 6 At 602, the method 600 may include transmitting to the UE signaling indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to one or more first UL TCI states. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to transmit to the UE 104 signaling indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to one or more first UL TCI states. Thus, the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define means for transmitting to the UE 104 signaling indicating a first UL TCI code point mapped to the one or more first UL TCI states. In an example, the one or more UL TCI states may be based on one or more of an SDM scheme, an FDM scheme, or a TDM scheme. In an example, a code point is a code, a string, or one or more bits of a DCI signal.

[0085] At 604, the method 600 may include receiving, from the UE in response to transmitting the signaling, an UL transmission of one or more second UL TCI states based on the default UL TCI code point. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to receive, from the UE 104 in response to transmitting the signaling, an UL transmission of one or more second UL TCI states based on the default UL TCI code point. Thus, the processor 712, the transceiver 702, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define means for receiving, from the UE 104 in response to transmitting the signaling, an UL transmission of one or more second UL TCI states based on the default UL TCI code point.

[0086] At 606, the method 600 may also include determining that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first code point are not configured for UL transmission based on the received UL transmission. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to determine that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first code point are not configured for UL transmission based on the received UL transmission. Thus, the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define a means for determining that the one or more first UL TCI states of the first code point are not configured for UL transmission based on the received UL transmission. In an example, based on the one or more first UL TCI states not being ready in time for UL transmission, the first UL TCI state may not have been configured for UL transmission. In an example, based on the one or more first UL TCI states being received by the UE 104 within a time domain scheduling threshold, the first UL TCI state may not have been configured for UL transmission.

[0087] At 608, the method 600 may further include storing an indication that the one or more first UL TCI states are not configured by the UE for UL transmission. For example, one or more of the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may be configured to store an indication that the one or more first UL TCI states are not configured by the UE 104 for UL transmission. Thus, the processor 712, the modem 140, the TCI signaling component 142, and / or one or more components / subcomponents of the base station 102 may define means for storing an indication that the one or more first UL TCI states are not configured by the UE 104 for UL transmission.

[0088] Reference Figure 7 , an example of an implementation of the base station 102 may include various components, some of which have been described above, but also include components such as one or more processors 712 and memory 716 in communication via one or more buses 744 and a transceiver 702, which can operate in conjunction with the modem 140 and TCI signaling component 142 to implement one or more of the functions of methods 500 and 600 described herein.

[0089] The transceiver 702, receiver 706, transmitter 708, one or more processors 712, memory 716, applications 775, bus 744, RF front end 788, LNA 790, switch 792, filter 796, PA 798, and one or more antennas 765 may be the same or similar to corresponding components of the UE 104 as described above, but are configured or otherwise programmed for base station operation rather than UE operation.
