Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the Chinese patent application entitled “Fully Convertible High-Heeled-Flat Shoes” and application number 201810778400.3 filed on July 16, 2018. Technical Field

[0002] The present invention relates generally to an innovative convertible high heel shoe design that allows conversion from high heels to flat shoes and vice versa, and more particularly to a shoe including a removable support bar (stelo), a removable high heel attachment, and a corresponding attachment system integrated in the base sole. Background Art

[0003] According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, nearly half of American women regularly wear high heels, even though 71% of women believe that shoes hurt their feet. Currently, the only solutions for women to the pain associated with stiletto heels are to endure it, take off their shoes and go barefoot, or carry an extra pair of shoes to swap in. None of these methods allow for optimal convenience or comfort.

[0004] There have been many previous attempts to create convertible shoes as a solution to these problems. Previous designs include: heels that are interchangeable in nature (changing a heel of one height for a heel of a lower height) using both clip-on systems and click-on systems, heels that fold into the sole of the shoe to form a wedge, heels that slide into the sole on a sliding track system, screw-in heels, heels with heels in place for adjusting the width of the heel, and other heels of a similar nature.

[0005] There is a need in the field of high heels to maximize comfort and practicality. This is achieved in the present invention of a convertible shoe - a convertible shoe that is both a high heel and a sandal. In this way, throughout the duration of wearing a pair of shoes, the wearer can change their shoes to meet their changing needs. Summary of the invention

[0006] The present disclosure describes a shoe that includes three parts: a removable support strip, a removable high heel attachment, and a corresponding attachment system integrated into a base sole. [0039] The following description should not be taken in a limiting sense but is made merely for the purpose of describing the general principles of exemplary embodiments. Reference should be made to the claims to determine the scope of the invention.

[0040] Reference throughout this specification to "one embodiment," "an embodiment," or similar language means that a particular feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with the embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the present invention. Thus, appearances of the phrases "in one embodiment," "in an embodiment," and similar language throughout this specification may, but do not necessarily, all refer to the same embodiment.

[0041] This article discusses novel convertible heel-flat shoes and the necessary elements for forming such products. In the following description, for the purpose of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the present invention can be practiced without these specific details.

[0042] The present disclosure uses the term "support bar" to refer to a removable rigid sole support or shank, including a shank, shankpiece, or shank spring, which serves as a bridge between the heel and the forefoot of the shoe. Support bars can be built into the midsole to provide reinforcement to form the arch of the heel. The contour and design of the shank depends on the type of shoe and the height of the heel. Its purpose is to maintain the shape or style of the shoe by preventing the shoe from collapsing or deforming and providing flexibility to the design.

[0043] The support strip can serve the same purpose as a conventional shank. However, the support strip can be removed from the shoe, allowing the user to modify the shape, design and function of the shoe, particularly with respect to adjustment of the heel height. The present disclosure describes the use of the support strip for high-heeled shoes, but the support strip can also be used for work boots, flat shoes, men's dress shoes, cycling shoes, bowling shoes, orthopedic shoes, welted shoes, or any other unlisted shoe having a heel piece.

[0044] As used herein, the term "heel base" refers to the upper surface of the removable heel attachment found at the end of the high heel shoe attachment opposite the "top piece," which is the industry term for the bottom of a solid high heel that contacts the ground when walking. Thus, the heel base is the end of the removable heel attachment that is located directly below the "counter" of a standard high heel shoe when fully assembled.

[0045] Figure 1 An example of an isometric view of a high-heeled shoe base 100 according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The high-heeled shoe base 100 may be a reference Figure 2-9 as well as Figure 13-15 Examples of corresponding elements described, or including references Figure 2-9 as well as Figure 13-15 Aspects of corresponding elements described. High heel shoe base 100 may include sole element 105 , toe cap base 110 , attachment platform 115 , support bar 120 , heel attachment 125 , concave portion 130 , and convex portion 135 .

[0046] As shown, the flexible sole element 105, the solid toe cap base 110, the removable heel attachment platform 115, the removable support strip 120 and the removable heel attachment 125 are used to form the structure of the high-heeled shoe. In operation, the flexible sole element 105 is coupled to the solid toe cap base 110 and the removable heel attachment platform 115 to form the base sole. The removable support strip 120 is inserted to provide the structural support required in the elevated high-heel configuration, and the removable heel attachment 125 is attached to form the complete high-heel configuration.

[0047] A convertible high-heeled shoe is shown that includes three novel components: a removable support strip 120, a removable heel attachment 125, and a corresponding attachment system integrated into the base. The removable support strip 120 is a rigid insert of any material that has a bend in the shape of a standard high-heeled shoe sole in a raised heel position (generally "S" shaped or curved when viewed from the side to provide a concave portion 130 and optionally a convex portion 135, the concave portion 130 is near where the removable support strip 120 joins the solid toe cap base 110, and the convex portion 135 is near where the removable support strip 120 joins the removable heel attachment platform 115). The removable heel attachment 125 can be a high heel of any height, design, width, and material, and includes a threaded post located at the heel base.

[0048] According to an embodiment of the present high-heeled shoe construction, the removable support strip 120 is attached by connecting the toe cap interlocking tabs into the toe cap interlocking grooves. The removable sole support locking key will be connected to a corresponding receiving mechanism located on the solid heel portion of the removable sole support locking key hole. When the heel interlocking mechanism is fully assembled, the interlocking mechanism will form an opening defined by a threaded track formed by the threaded key arch portion and the threaded key hole portion.

[0049] The removable heel attachment 125 is threadably coupled to the removable heel support attachment by threading a threaded post located on the removable heel attachment 125 into the threaded track of the opening formed by the threaded key arch portion and the threaded key hole portion. In its final form, the removable heel attachment 125 is attached at the opening and at least partially covers and secures the removable sole support locking key hole, thereby preventing accidental removal of the removable heel attachment platform 115.

[0050] In the operation of the flat shoe configuration, the removable heel attachment 125 and the removable support strip 120 can be removed, thereby allowing the flexible base sole to be used independently. In practice, the user will usually start with the shoe configured as a high-heeled shoe, wherein the removable heel attachment platform 115 and the removable heel attachment 125 are fixed in place. When the user wishes to convert the shoe into a flat shoe, the removable heel attachment 125 is rotated to disengage the threaded track from the threaded column of the removable heel attachment 125. This disengagement causes the removable heel attachment 125 to separate from the shoe and release the removable sole support locking key from the removable sole support locking key hole. Then, the removable heel attachment platform 115 is rotated away from the flexible base sole, and the toe cover interlocking tab slides toward the rear of the shoe to disengage the toe cover interlocking tab from the toe cover interlocking groove.

[0051] With the removable support strip 120 removed, the support strip 120 no longer supports the shank of the shoe in a high heel configuration, and the flexible base sole allows the removable heel attachment platform 115 to fall to the ground and serve as the heel of the shoe. The removable support strip 120 and removable heel attachment 125 can then be stored away, with the shoe taking on the form of a flat shoe. The process is performed in reverse to convert the shoe from a flat shoe to a high heel shoe.

[0052] Optional add-ons to this product include, but are not limited to: a high heel wedge attachment of any height, width and material; a removable sole support attachment formed in conjunction with a connection mechanism different from that described above; a removable heel attachment 125 formed in conjunction with a connection mechanism different from that described above.

[0053] Thus, in view of the above description, it will be appreciated that the optimal dimensional relationships of the components of the present invention (including variations in size, material, shape, form, function, and operation / assembly and use) are considered obvious and evident to those skilled in the art, and that all equivalent relationships shown in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

[0092] Figure 7 An example of a top view of a high heel shoe base 700 according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. Features are shown in an assembled state to show how they fit together structurally in one embodiment to form a complete threaded heel connection mechanism. In operation, the features are combined as described to form a complete threaded track required to insert a threaded post of a removable heel attachment by using the thread key hole portion 735 and the thread key arch portion 715 together to implement a complete threaded heel connection mechanism.

[0093] The high heel shoe base 700 may be a reference Figure 1-6 , Figure 8 , Fig. 9 and Figure 13-15 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-6 , Figure 8 , Fig. 9 and Figure 13-15 Aspects of corresponding elements described. High heel shoe base 700 may include attachment platform 705, sole support locking keyhole 710, key arch portion 715, support bar 720, toe cap interlocking tab 725, sole support locking key 730, and keyhole portion 735.

[0094] In this embodiment, the interlocking mechanism includes a locking mechanism at a removable sole support locking key 730 of a removable support strip 720 that is connected to a "keyhole" cavity in a removable sole support locking key hole 710, wherein threads extend along a threaded keyhole portion 735. The threaded keyhole portion 735 interlocks with threads in a threaded column when combined with the remainder of the threaded track at a threaded key arch portion 715 that is adjacent to the removable sole support locking key hole 710. The removable sole support locking key 730 is constrained by the removable sole support locking key hole 710 to move relative to the removable sole support locking key 730 in the direction of a second direction vector that is not parallel to the one-way vector. When the removable sole support locking key 730 and the removable sole support locking key hole 710 are interlocked and the threaded tracks are aligned, the threaded post is threaded into the resulting threaded opening and tightened into place.

[0095] This arrangement simultaneously secures the removable sole support locking key 730 to the removable sole support locking key hole 710 and secures the removable heel attachment to the convertible high heel shoe. In other embodiments, a different connection mechanism is located in the position of the removable sole support locking key 730, the removable sole support locking key hole 710 is replaced with a protrusion or cavity, and the threaded track formed by the threaded key hole portion 735 and the threaded key arch portion 715 for interacting with the threaded post is replaced with a single independently operated threaded track, multiple threaded tracks of different executions, or a completely different insertion mechanism.

[0096] As shown, the removable heel attachment platform 705 also includes a portion of a removable sole support locking keyhole 710 for a removable sole support attachment, wherein a corresponding heel locking mechanism is located at the removable sole support insert. Other possible embodiments of the mechanism may include other configurations of threaded tracks, and other locking systems other than threads, including but not limited to sliding tracks, slots, forks, click and push systems. With respect to other embodiments of the mechanism, the protrusions and insertion points of the mechanism may be implemented in any foreseeable shape.

The base sole 1000 may be a reference Fig.11 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Fig.11 Base sole 1000 may include sole element 1005 , toe cap base 1010 , attachment platform 1015 , sole support locking keyhole 1020 , and key arch portion 1025 .

[0115] When all are assembled as shown in the figures, the flexible sole element 1005, solid toe cap base 1010, removable heel attachment platform 1015, removable sole support locking key hole 1020 and threaded key arch portion 1025 combine to form the flexible base sole 1000. In operation of this embodiment of a flat shoe execution, the base sole 1000 functions independently as a sole by itself.

[0116] The flexible base sole 1000 shown includes three elements, the first of which is a flexible sole that extends the length of a flexible sole element 1005. The flexible sole element 1005 approximates the shape and flexibility of a standard flat sole and can include any material, but will be flexible in nature. The flexible sole element 1005 is attached to two solid pieces that, in combination, make up the flexible base sole 1000. The first of these solid pieces is attached to the toe box portion of a solid toe box base 1010. The solid toe box base 1010 approximates the shape and flexibility of a standard sole element 1005 located at the outsole portion of the toe box portion of the shoe. The solid toe box base 1010 can be made of any suitable material and is solid in its execution.

[0117] The second solid piece, which will form the solid toe cap base 1010 in its entirety, will be attached to the heel portion of the shoe at the removable heel attachment platform 1015. It will be similar in shape to a standard flat heel and in one embodiment will include a concave center portion in the shape of an arch that follows the shape of the outer edge of the heel.

[0118] Sole element 1005 may be reference Figure 1-5 , Fig.11 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 , Fig.15 and Figure 22-24 Examples of corresponding elements described, or including references Figure 1-5 , Fig.11 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 , Fig.15 and Figure 22-24 The toe cap base 1010 may be a reference to the corresponding elements described in Figure 1-6 , Fig. 9 , Fig.11 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 and Fig.14 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-6 , Fig. 9 , Fig.11 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 and Fig.14 The attachment platform 1015 may be a reference to the corresponding elements described in Figure 1-7 , Fig. 9 , Fig.11 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 , Fig.15 , Fig.17 and Figure 22-24 Examples of corresponding elements described, or including reference Figure 1-7 , Fig. 9, Fig.11 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 , Fig.15 , Fig.17 and Figure 22-24 Aspects of corresponding elements are described.

[0119] The sole support locking key hole 1020 can be a reference Figure 4-7 and Fig. 9 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 4-7 and Fig. 9 The key arch portion 1025 may be a reference to the corresponding elements of the Figure 4-7 and Fig. 9 Examples of corresponding elements described, or including reference Figure 4-7 and Fig. 9 Aspects of corresponding elements are described.

[0120] Fig.11 An example of an isometric top view of a base sole 1100 according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The base sole 1100 may be a reference Fig.10 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Fig.10 Aspects of corresponding elements described. Base sole 1100 may include sole element 1105 , toe cap base 1110 , and attachment platform 1115 .

[0121] When all assembled together as shown, the flexible sole element 1105, solid toe cap base 1110, and removable heel attachment platform 1115 combine to form the flexible base sole 1100. In operation of this embodiment of a flats execution, the flexible base sole 1100 itself serves as a sole when the shoe is configured as a flats.

[0122] Sole element 1105 may be a reference Figure 1-5 , Fig.10 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 , Fig.15 and Figure 22-24 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-5 , Fig.10 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 , Fig.15 and Figure 22-24 The toe cap base 1110 may be a reference to the corresponding elements described in Figure 1-6 , Fig. 9 , Fig.10 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 and Fig.14 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-6 , Fig. 9 , Fig.10 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 and Fig.14 The attachment platform 1115 may be a reference to the corresponding elements described in Figure 1-7 , Fig. 9 , Fig.10 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 , Fig.15 , Fig.17 and Figure 22-24 Examples of corresponding elements described, or including reference Figure 1-7 , Fig. 9 , Fig.10 , Fig.12 , Fig.13 , Fig.15 , Fig.17 and Figure 22-24 Aspects of corresponding elements are described.

[0123] Fig.12 An example of an isometric isolated view of a base of a high-heeled shoe 1200 according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. High-heeled shoe 1200 may include a footbed 1205, an attachment platform 1210, a heel cap 1215, a sole element 1220, a support bar 1225, a forefoot pin 1230, a toe cap base 1235, a heel lock 1240, a heel attachment 1245, a heel bar 1250, and a heel tip 1255.

[0124] In some examples, the heel attachment 1245 can be used as a fastener to attach the removable support strip 1225. The attachment platform 1210 (also referred to as a receiving part or "disc") can be co-molded with the sole element 1220. The support strip 1225 and the heel attachment 1245 can be attached together to be installed and removed as a single unit. They can also be pulled apart and separated. For example, the heel attachment 1245 and the support strip 1225 can be removed using a quarter turn in a clockwise direction and pivoting around the forefoot pin 1230. The angle of the support strip 1225 around the forefoot pin 1230 can range from 15 degrees to 90 degrees. In some examples, a 35-degree pivot can be used to disengage from the forefoot pin 1230.

[0125] The support bar 1225 can be a removable handle, handle component or handle spring that is inserted into a slot between the forefoot pin 1230 in the midsole and outsole and is secured in place when in the arch position. The hook on the toe sleeve end of the handle is bent around the forefoot pin 1230 to secure it in place.

[0126] The heel end of the support bar 1225 may have a snap-on plug on which the removable heel lock 1240 is located. The support bar 1225 is part width and part length of the shoe, extending from the forefoot portion of the sole to the center of the heel. The shape of the support bar 1225 may be similar to a shoe shank in that it follows the arch of the shoe with a heel. The purpose of the support bar 1225 is to form the arch in the shoe and maintain the structure of the shoe when the removable heel attachment 1245 is fixed in place.

[0127] The shank is built into the midsole and extends the length of the shoe from heel to forefoot, corresponding to the medial and lateral arches. One or more shanks may be attached to any of the following areas of the shoe: the toe box; the sole including the platform, forefoot, or midsole; the bridge or waist; the bottom padding; or the heel including the heel base, breast, and seat.

[0128] The types of attachment mechanisms for the support bar 1225 include, but are not limited to, double interlocking mechanisms, twist mechanisms, sliding tracks, wedge-type inserts with receivers or protrusions, slots, forks, snap and push systems, or threads. The support bar 1225 can be made of wood, steel, carbon fiber, plastic, nylon, fiberglass, Kevlar, or any other material in any combination and proportion.

[0129] In some cases, support bar 1225 may be the primary determinant of overall shoe stiffness. Thus, support bar 1225 may be designed to be sufficiently stiff and wide to add the stability required for a shoe with a heel, but to leave enough material in sole element 1220 to provide sufficient stiffness and stability for a flat shoe. The stiffness of support bar 1225 may be maximized by using a curved profile and a central rib (running along the length or a majority of the length of the support bar, perpendicular to the arch of the curved profile), and may be supported with additional ribs (e.g., parallel to the central rib).

[0130] Potential shapes for support strip 1225 include, but are not limited to, strips or bands of plated material that can have ridges or curved features for added strength. Support strip 1225 can have perforations for eyelet attachment, spikes for pressure attachment, or any other design that enables attachment to a shoe. In any variation and combination, support strip 1225 design can be the full width of a shoe, a partial width of a shoe, a full length of a shoe, or a partial length of a shoe. In some examples, the profile of support strip 1225 is determined by the heel height.

[0131] Many features based on friction can be used to achieve attachment of the heel and avoid unintentional twisting and potential removal. The interference between the support bar 1225, the heel lock 1240 and the attachment platform 1210 causes friction between these components and prevents rotation. Similarly, the interference between the sole element 1220 and the heel attachment 1245 compresses the sole element 1220 and causes more significant friction.

[0132] A molded pin extending on support bar 1225 into heel lock 1240 may provide some additional stability, but the primary function of this feature is to combine heel attachment 1245 with support bar 1225 so that heel attachment 1245 and support bar 1225 can be removed as a single component. In some cases, the shoe does not rely on this pin to provide structural stability. Instead, the stability and rigidity of the joint between support bar 1225 and heel attachment 1245 can be achieved by the contact between the top of heel lock 1240 and the underside surface of support bar 1225. The two parts can be sandwiched together by attachment platform 1210. The overall diameter of the feature in this "sandwich" can be an important factor in determining the stability of high-heeled shoe 1200.

[0133] In some cases, plastics tend to relax this pressure over time. Therefore, extended nubs may be provided on support bar 1225 to temporarily interfere with and "bump" corresponding features on heel attachment 1245 (not shown).

[0155] Fig.16An example of a side view of a support bar 1600 according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The support bar 1600 may be a reference Figure 1-9 , Figure 12-14 and Figure 22-24 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-9 , Figure 12-14 and Figure 22-24 Aspects of corresponding elements are described.

[0156] The support bar 1600 may include a rigid handle, a toe interlock and a heel interlock, wherein the toe interlock is configured to removably interlock with the support bar 1600 receiver and the heel interlock is configured to removably interlock with the interlocking portion, and wherein the support bar 1600 is configured to be juxtaposed with the flexible sole element to provide rigid support for the flexible sole element.

[0157] In some examples, the toe interlocking device includes a notch 1602 that is configured to interlock with a forefoot pin at a receiving member of the support bar 1600. In some examples, the support bar 1600 is sandwiched between the removable heel and the interlocking portion at the end of the support bar opposite the notch 1602. [0158] Fig.17 An example of an attachment platform 1700 is shown in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. Attachment platform 1700 may be an example of a heel platform that includes interlocking portions.

[0159] In some examples, the interlocking portion includes a disc coupled to the heel platform. Attachment platform 1700 may be a reference Figure 1-7 , Figure 9-13 , Fig.15 and Figure 22-24 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-7 , Figure 9-13 , Fig.15 and Figure 22-24 Aspects of corresponding elements are described.

[0160] According to this example, the attachment platform includes the female half of the quarter-turn cam lock fastener. The cylindrical opening in the attachment platform includes a pair of notches (larger in diameter than the cylindrical opening) that allow for a pair of "ears" on the post of the male half of the quarter-turn cam lock fastener.

[0161] In operation, once the post is inserted into the post opening and the ear is aligned with the notch, the heel is rotated a quarter turn, causing the ear to be out of alignment so that the post can no longer be removed from the post opening. At the same time, the cam surface on the bottom surface of the ear causes the heel to be pulled tightly toward the attachment platform, thereby increasing the stability of the heel relative to the attachment platform and increasing the force required to overcome friction to rotate the heel to a position where it can be removed (i.e., a position where the ear is aligned with the notch and the post can be removed from the post opening). When the heel is pulled tightly toward the attachment platform, the support bar is also fixed between the heel and the attachment platform.

[0174] Fig.23 An example of a high-heeled shoe heel connection mechanism according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The example shown includes sole element 2300, attachment platform 2305, support bar 2310, and heel attachment 2315.

[0175] This example shows an example heel connection mechanism that can provide a larger heel / midsole connection area. This embodiment does not rely on sole element 2300 for connection, and therefore can be easy to clean, strong and durable. In another similar embodiment (not shown), the heel lock has a narrow tab, more like a T-shape and less like a wing. The heel lock extends upward from the heel and passes through support strip 2310. This embodiment can rely on compression of the sole element to maintain stability and strength.

[0176] The sole element 2300 may be a reference Figure 1-5 , Figure 10-13 , Fig.15 , Fig. 22 and Fig.24Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-5 , Figure 10-13 , Fig.15 , Fig. 22 and Fig.24 The attachment platform 2305 may be a reference to the corresponding elements described in Figure 1-7 , Figure 9-13 , Fig.15 , Fig.17 , Fig. 22 and Fig.24 Examples of corresponding elements described, or including references Figure 1-7 , Figure 9-13 , Fig.15 , Fig.17 , Fig. 22 and Fig.24 Aspects of corresponding elements are described.

[0178] Fig.24 An example of a high-heeled shoe heel connection mechanism according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The example shown includes sole element 2400, attachment platform 2405, support bar 2410, and heel attachment 2415.

[0179] This example shows an example of a simplified heel connection mechanism, where the heel attachment 2415 platform 2405 and the support bar 2410 can be removed or installed as a single unit. This embodiment allows the heel wear to be hidden within the design and can eliminate the need for a heel cap. The fasteners on the support bar 2410 can be held together using a cam lock type action. They are installed using a push and removed using a pull. In some examples, the fasteners on the support bar 2410 cannot be released until the inner column on the heel attachment 2415 is pulled out.

[0180] The sole element 2400 may be a reference Figure 1-5 , Figure 10-13 , Fig.15 , Fig. 22 and Fig.23 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-5 , Figure 10-13 , Fig.15 , Fig. 22 and Fig.23 The attachment platform 2405 may be a reference to the corresponding elements described in Figure 1-7 , Figure 9-13 , Fig.15 , Fig.17 , Fig. 22 and Fig.23 Examples of corresponding elements described, or including references Figure 1-7 , Figure 9-13 , Fig.15 , Fig.17 , Fig. 22 and Fig.23 Aspects of corresponding elements are described.

[0181] Support bar 2410 may be a reference Figure 1-9 , Figure 12-14 , Fig.16 , Fig. 22 and Fig.23 Examples of corresponding elements described or included with reference Figure 1-9 , Figure 12-14 , Fig.16 , Fig. 22 and Fig.23 The heel attachment 2415 may be a reference to the corresponding elements described in Figure 1-5 , Fig. 9 , Fig.12 , Fig.14 , Fig.18 , Fig.19 , Fig. 22 and Fig.23 Examples of corresponding elements described, or including references Figure 1-5 , Fig. 9 , Fig.12 , Fig.14 , Fig.18 , Fig.19 , Fig. 22 and Fig.23 Aspects of corresponding elements are described.

[0182] The column of the support bar 2410 as described above comprises a cylindrical core with a compressible, expandable distal end. When the support bar is inserted into the attachment mechanism, the compressible, expandable distal end frictionally engages with the attachment mechanism 2405. Additional travel allows the distal end to expand back to its relaxed state. When Fig.24 The cylindrical portion of the heel lock of an embodiment prevents compression of the compressible, expandable distal end when inserted into the support bar through the cylindrical core, thereby mechanically locking the heel lock and support bar assembly into the larger diameter area within the connection mechanism, thereby locking the support bar to the attachment mechanism.
