[0002] This patent application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 962,019, filed by KHOSHNEVISAN et al. on January 16, 2020, entitled “SPACEDIVISION MULTIPLEXING MAPPING OF TRANSMISSION CONFIGURATION INDICATOR STATESTO A CONTROL CHANNEL,” and U.S. Patent Application No. 17 / 119,162, filed by KHOSHNEVISAN et al. on December 11, 2020, entitled “SPACEDIVISION MULTIPLEXING MAPPING OF TRANSMISSION CONFIGURATION INDICATOR STATESTO A CONTROL CHANNEL,” each of which is assigned to the assignee of this application. Technical Field

[0003] The following relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly to spatial division multiplexing (SDM) mapping of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states to control channels.

[0004] background

[0005] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, etc. These systems may be able to support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems (such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, advanced LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems), and fifth generation (5G) systems, which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems. These systems may use various technologies, such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform extended orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations or one or more network access nodes, each base station or network access node simultaneously supporting the communication of multiple communication devices, which may be referred to as user equipment (UE) in addition.

[0006] In some wireless communication systems, a device may attempt to decode (e.g., blindly decode) a control channel (e.g., a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)). The device may attempt to decode a control channel in a control resource set (CORESET) and may perform channel estimation based on decoding the control channel to identify channel characteristics associated with the control channel. In some cases, the device may attempt to decode the control channel and perform channel estimation on the control channel based on a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state associated with the control channel. For example, a control channel may be associated with a TCI state that may provide quasi-co-location information associated with one or more reference signals. The device may use the quasi-co-location information associated with the one or more reference signals to decode the control channel and perform channel estimation on the control channel. However, in some cases, the quasi-co-location information provided by a single TCI may be insufficient (e.g., when the control channel is associated with poor channel quality).

[0007] Overview

[0008] The described technology relates to improved methods, systems, devices and apparatuses that support spatial division multiplexing (SDM) mapping of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states to control channels. In general, the described technology provides enhanced diversity and reliability and enables a more robust communication system. To achieve such improvements, a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) can be configured to support multiple TCI states. For example, two TCI states can be configured for a control resource set (CORESET) associated with a PDCCH.

[0009] A CORESET may include one or more resource elements (REs) that may be used to transmit decoded bits of a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) and downlink control information (DCI). In some cases, SDM may be used to enable multiple TCI states of a CORESET. In this way, multiple (e.g., two) DMRS ports may be enabled for a PDCCH. Each DMRS port may be associated with a different layer. For example, a first layer and a DMRS port may be associated with a first TCI state and a second layer and a DMRS port may be associated with a second TCI state. These DMRS ports may be orthogonal or non-orthogonal. In the case of orthogonal DMRS ports, REs may be assigned so that a first RE set of a resource element group (REG) is assigned to a first DMRS port and a second RE set orthogonal to the first set is assigned to a second port. Additionally or alternatively, multiple DMRS ports may be code division multiplexed (CDM) within a RE so that multiple DMRS ports may be associated with the same RE. In the case of non-orthogonal DMRS ports, the same RE may be used for multiple TCI states, where a scrambling sequence may be applied to the DMRS associated with the TCI state.

[0070] Detailed Description

[0071] As the demand for communication resources increases (due to the increase in the number of wireless devices communicating on the available spectrum), it is desirable to increase the throughput efficiently and reliably. In some cases, the overall reliability of a wireless communication system may depend on the reliability of several different communication channels. For example, a wireless device (such as a user equipment (UE)) may receive downlink data transmissions from a base station on a downlink data channel (e.g., a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH)) and receive downlink control transmissions from a base station on a downlink control channel (e.g., a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)), and the overall system reliability may depend on the reliability of these two channels. In some cases, the reliability of a channel may be associated with channel diversity. Accordingly, increasing channel diversity may increase the reliability of a channel. In some cases, channel diversity may be associated with the number of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states associated with a channel. For example, a downlink data channel may be configured for multi-TCI state operation so that different resources associated with a downlink data channel (e.g., spatial layers, resource blocks (RBs), orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, or OFDM time slots) may be associated with different TCI states. In some cases, downlink control information (DCI) may include a TCI field indicating the number of TCI states associated with the PDSCH. Accordingly, the PDSCH may be characterized by enhanced diversity and reliability.

[0072] However, in some deployments, a downlink control channel (e.g., resources associated with the downlink control channel) may be limited to a single TCI state without a mechanism for assigning multiple TCI states to the downlink control channel. As such, the downlink control channel may be associated with lower transmission diversity and may be less reliable than the PDSCH, which may limit the achievable efficiency and reliability of the overall wireless communication system.

[0073] Various implementations of the present disclosure generally involve associating (eg, defining or assigning) multiple TCI states to a downlink control channel based on a spatial division multiplexing (SDM) mapping.

[0074] In some wireless communication systems, a base station may use a control resource set (CORESET) to transmit control information to a UE via a PDCCH. A CORESET may include one or more resource element groups (REGs), which may include one or more resource elements (REs). A base station may use a physical layer to transmit a PDCCH associated with a CORESET. In some cases, different spatial layers may be associated with different antenna ports. Thus, a PDCCH may be associated with one antenna port and one TCI state. In some cases, a base station may transmit a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) in one or more REs of a REG, where the base station may transmit each PDCCH DMRS with the same antenna port associated with one TCI state.

[0075] In some cases, the UE may receive each DMRS in the PDCCH using the same TCI state. In the case of using one TCI state per PDCCH, the reliability of the network may depend on the reliability of each channel. In order to enhance diversity and reliability and achieve a more robust communication system, the PDCCH may be configured to support more than one TCI state. In some cases, two TCI states may be assigned to the CORESET.

[0076] In some cases, SDM can be used to enable more than one TCI state for each CORESET. In this way, multiple (e.g., two) DMRS ports can be enabled for PDCCH. Each DMRS port can be associated with different layers. For example, the first layer and the DMRS port can be associated with the first TCI state and the second layer and the DMRS port can be associated with the second TCI state. These DMRS ports can be orthogonal or non-orthogonal. In the case of orthogonal DMRS ports, REs can be assigned so that the first RE set of REG is assigned to the first DMRS port and the second RE set orthogonal to the first set is assigned to the second port. Additionally or alternatively, multiple DMRS ports can be code-division multiplexed (CDM) within REs so that multiple DMRS ports can be associated with the same RE. In the case of non-orthogonal DMRS ports, the same RE can be used for multiple TCI states, wherein a scrambling sequence can be applied to the DMRS associated with the TCI state.

[0077] Specific implementations of the subject matter described in the present disclosure may be implemented to achieve one or more of the following potential advantages. In some implementations, the described techniques may be used to improve the diversity and reliability of a downlink control channel. For example, configuring (e.g., defining or assigning) multiple TCI states for a CORESET associated with a downlink control channel may provide the UE with additional quasi-co-location information, such as additional knowledge about quasi-co-location (QCL) reference signals. This may enable the UE to improve channel estimation for the downlink control channel and enhance the UE's ability to accurately manage different receive beams for receiving the downlink control channel. In this way, the UE may be more likely to successfully receive and decode the downlink control channel, which may result in increased reliability of the downlink control channel and improved overall system efficiency. In addition, by increasing the reliability of the downlink control channel, the UE may perform fewer reception attempts on the downlink control channel. By reducing the number of reception attempts, the UE may additionally experience increased power savings associated with fewer monitoring opportunities and decoding operations.

[0078] Various aspects of the present disclosure are initially described in the context of a wireless communication system. Various aspects of CORESET and process flow are subsequently described. Various aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described by and with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow charts related to SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels.

[0079] Figure 1 An example of a wireless communication system 100 that supports SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more base stations 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, an advanced LTE (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, or a new radio (NR) network. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support enhanced broadband communications, ultra-reliable (e.g., mission-critical) communications, low latency communications, communications with low-cost and low-complexity devices, or any combination thereof.

[0080] The base stations 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communication system 100, and may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. The base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may communicate wirelessly via one or more communication links 125. Each base station 105 may provide a coverage area 110 over which the UEs 115 and the base stations 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which the base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may support communication of signals according to one or more radio access technologies.

[0081] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary or mobile, or stationary and mobile at different times. The UEs 115 may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. Figure 1 Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. 1. The UEs 115 described herein may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, base stations 105, or network equipment (e.g., core network nodes, relay devices, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes, or other network equipment), such as Figure 1 as shown in .

[0082] Each base station 105 may communicate with the core network 130, or communicate with each other, or both. For example, the base station 105 may interface with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul links 120 (e.g., via S1, N2, N3, or other interfaces). The base stations 105 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., directly between the base stations 105), or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130), or directly and indirectly on the backhaul link 120 (e.g., via X2, Xn, or other interfaces). In some examples, the backhaul link 120 may be or include one or more wireless links.

[0083] One or more of the base stations 105 described herein may include or may be referred to by a person of ordinary skill in the art as a base transceiver station, a radio base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a B node, an evolved B node (eNB), a next generation B node or a gigabit B node (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a home B node, a home evolved B node, or other suitable terminology.

[0084] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology, where a "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, a client, or the like. UE 115 may also include or be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as: a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a multimedia / entertainment device (e.g., a radio, an MP3 player, or a video device), a camera, a gaming device, a navigation / positioning device (e.g., a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) device based on, for example, a Global Positioning System (GPS), Beidou, GLONASS, or Galileo, or a ground-based device), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, a personal computer, a netbook, a smartbook, a personal computer, a smart device, a wearable device (e.g., a smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, virtual reality goggles, a smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., a smart ring, a smart bracelet)), a drone, a robot / robotic device, a vehicle, a vehicle-mounted device, a meter (e.g., a parking meter, an electricity meter, a gas meter, a water meter), a monitor, a gas pump, an appliance (e.g., a kitchen appliance, a washing machine, a dryer), a location tag, a medical / health care device, an implant, a sensor / actuator, a display, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via a wireless or wired medium. In some examples, UE 115 may include or be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as electrical appliances or vehicles, meters, etc.

[0085] The UE 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, which may sometimes act as relays, as well as base stations 105 and network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, relay base stations, etc. Figure 1 as shown in .

[0086] The UE 115 and the base station 105 may communicate wirelessly with each other via one or more communication links 125 on one or more carriers. The term "carrier" may refer to a set of radio frequency spectrum resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting the communication link 125. For example, a carrier for the communication link 125 may include a portion of a radio frequency spectrum band (e.g., a bandwidth portion (BWP)) that operates according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating carrier operations, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 may support communication with the UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. The UE 115 may be configured to have multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers according to a carrier aggregation configuration. Carrier aggregation may be used in conjunction with both frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers.

[0087] The signal waveform transmitted on the carrier may include multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques, such as OFDM or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system using MCM technology, an RE may include a codeword period (e.g., the duration of a modulation codeword) and a subcarrier, where the codeword period and the subcarrier spacing are inversely related. The number of bits carried by each RE may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the decoding rate of the modulation scheme, or both). Thus, the more REs received by the UE 115 and the higher the order of the modulation scheme, the higher the data rate of the UE 115 can be. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of radio frequency spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial layers can further improve the data rate or data integrity of communications with the UE 115.

[0088] The time interval of the base station 105 or the UE 115 can be expressed as a multiple of a basic time unit, and the basic time unit can be, for example, a sampling period T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds, where Δf max It can represent the maximum supported subcarrier spacing, and N f The maximum supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size may be indicated. Time intervals of communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).

[0089] Each frame may include a plurality of consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, a frame may be divided into subframes (e.g., in the time domain), and each subframe may be further divided into a number of time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include a number of code element periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix added before each code element period). In some wireless communication systems 100, a time slot may be further divided into a plurality of mini-time slots containing one or more code elements. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each code element period may contain one or more (e.g., N f The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating band.

[0090] A subframe, slot, mini-slot, or symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in bursts of shortened TTIs (sTTIs)).

[0091] Physical channels may be multiplexed on a carrier according to various techniques. Physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed on a downlink carrier, for example, using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., CORESET) for a physical control channel may be defined by a number of symbol periods and may extend across a system bandwidth or a subset of a system bandwidth of a carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESET) may be configured for a set of UEs 115. For example, one or more of the UEs 115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates arranged in a cascaded manner at one or more aggregation levels. The aggregation level of a control channel candidate may refer to the number of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information for a control information format having a given payload size. The search space sets may include a common search space set configured for transmitting control information to multiple UEs 115 and a UE-specific search space set for transmitting control information to a specific UE 115 .

[0092] In some examples, base stations 105 may be mobile and thus provide communication coverage for mobile geographic coverage areas 110. In some examples, different geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same base station 105. In other examples, overlapping geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different base stations 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of base stations 105 provide coverage for various geographic coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.

[0093] The wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low latency communication or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) or mission-critical communication. UE 115 may be designed to support ultra-reliable, low latency or critical functions (e.g., mission-critical functions). Ultra-reliable communication may include private communication or group communication, and may be supported by one or more mission-critical services (such as mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT), mission-critical video (MCVideo), or mission-critical data (MCData). Support for mission-critical functions may include prioritization of services, and mission-critical services may be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low latency, critical mission, and ultra-reliable low latency may be used interchangeably herein.

[0094] In some examples, UE 115 may also be able to communicate directly with other UE 115 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., using a peer-to-peer (P2P) or D2D protocol). One or more UEs 115 utilizing D2D communication may be within a geographic coverage area 110 of a base station 105. Other UEs 115 in such a group may be outside the geographic coverage area 110 of the base station 105, or may not be able to receive transmissions from the base station 105 for other reasons. In some examples, each group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may utilize a one-to-many (1:M) system, wherein each UE 115 transmits to each other UE 115 in the group. In some examples, the base station 105 facilitates the scheduling of resources for D2D communication. In other cases, D2D communication is performed between each UE 115 without involving the base station 105.

[0095] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), and the EPC or 5GC may include at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility, and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets or interconnecting to an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management of UE 115 served by a base station 105 associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be delivered via a user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to a network operator IP service 150. Operator IP services 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), or packet-switched streaming services.

[0096] Some network devices (such as base stations 105) may include subcomponents, such as access network entities 140, which may be examples of access node controllers (ANCs). Each access network entity 140 may communicate with each UE 115 through one or more other access network transport entities 145, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission / reception points (TRPs). Each access network transport entity 145 may include one or more antenna panels. In some configurations, the various functions of each access network entity 140 or base station 105 may be distributed across various network devices (e.g., radio heads and ANCs) or merged into a single network device (e.g., base station 105).

[0097] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands, typically in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). In general, the 300 MHz to 3 GHz region is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelengths range from about 1 decimeter to 1 meter long. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features, but these waves may penetrate various structures sufficiently for macro cells to provide service to UEs 115 located indoors. Transmissions using UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than transmissions using smaller frequencies and longer waves in the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.

[0098] The wireless communication system 100 may utilize both licensed and unlicensed radio frequency spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may employ licensed assisted access (LAA), LTE unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology in an unlicensed band (such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band). When operating in an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, devices (such as base stations 105 and UEs 115) may employ carrier sensing for conflict detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations in an unlicensed band may be based on a carrier aggregation configuration (e.g., LAA) in coordination with component carriers operating in a licensed band. Operations in an unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, among others.

[0099] The base station 105 or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which can be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the base station 105 or UE 115 may be located in one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels that can support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly (such as an antenna tower). In some examples, the antennas or antenna arrays associated with the base station 105 may be located at different geographical locations. The base station 105 may have an antenna array having antenna ports of several rows and columns that the base station 105 can use to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may have one or more antenna arrays that can support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support radio frequency beamforming for signals transmitted via the antenna ports.

[0100] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a base station 105, a UE 115) to shape or steer an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals communicated via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating at a particular orientation relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals communicated via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each antenna element may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular orientation (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device, or relative to some other orientation).

[0101] The wireless communication system 100 may be a packet-based network that operates according to a layered protocol stack. In the user plane, the communication of the bearer or packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer may be IP-based. The radio link control (RLC) layer may perform packet segmentation and reassembly to communicate on a logical channel. The media access control (MAC) layer may perform priority handling and multiplex logical channels into transport channels. The MAC layer may also use error detection techniques, error correction techniques, or both to support retransmission of the MAC layer to improve link efficiency. In the control plane, the radio resource control (RRC) protocol layer may provide the establishment, configuration, and maintenance of an RRC connection that supports radio bearers of user plane data between UE 115 and base station 105 or core network 130. At the physical layer, transport channels may be mapped to physical channels.

[0102] In order to enhance DMRS reliability and increase network robustness, the CORESET may be configured to support more than one TCI state for a multi-TCI state PDCCH. In some cases, the UE 115 may receive a configuration message indicating that the CORESET for the PDCCH may be associated with multiple TCI states. The UE 115 may identify the association between the resources of the CORESET and the multiple TCI states based on the SDM mapping. In some cases, the SDM mapping may indicate the association between the first DMRS port and the first TCI state and the association between the second DMRS port and the second TCI state. The first and second DMRS ports may be orthogonal or non-orthogonal. In the case of orthogonal DMRS ports, the REs of the CORESET may be assigned so that a first RE set is assigned to a first DMRS port and a second RE set orthogonal to the first set is assigned to a second port. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may perform CDM on multiple DMRS associated with different DMRS ports, and transmit the CDMed DMRS in the REs so that multiple DMRS ports may be used during the same RE. In the case of non-orthogonal DMRS ports, the same RE may be used for multiple TCI states, where a scrambling sequence may be applied to the DMRS associated with the TCI state. As described herein, SDM techniques implementing multi-TCI state PDCCH may enhance DMRS diversity and improve reliability.

[0103] Figure 2 An example of a wireless communication system 200 that supports SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels according to various aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 200 may include a base station 105-a and a UE 115-a, which may be as described with reference to Figure 1An example of a base station 105 and a UE 115 is described. The base station 105-a may serve a geographic coverage area 110-a. In some cases, the base station 105-a may implement an SDM scheme to enable a multi-TCI state PDCCH. For example, the base station 105-a may determine an SDM mapping to support transmission of a PDCCH DMRS on different DMRS ports and TCI states to improve DMRS reliability. Additionally or alternatively, other wireless devices (such as UE 115-a) may implement an SDM scheme to enable a multi-TCI PDCCH.

[0104] In some wireless communication systems, the base station 105 may transmit DCI to the UE 115 via a PDCCH, such as through a downlink communication link 205. Resources (such as REs) may be allocated for the PDCCH. The allocated REs may be part of a CORESET 210, wherein the CORESET 210 may include a complete resource set for one or more PDCCH candidates. The CORESET 210 may include one or more REGs, which may include one or more REs, wherein each RE is one OFDM symbol 215 in the time domain by one subcarrier 220 in the frequency domain. Each REG of the CORESET 210 includes twelve REs in one OFDM symbol in a single RB. In some cases, the base station 105-a may use three of the twelve REs in the REG to transmit DMRS. The base station 105-a may use the remaining nine REs to transmit decoded bits of the DCI. For example, the CORESET 210 may include one or more control REs 225, and one or more DMRS REs 230. Control REs 225 may be allocated for coded DCI bits and DMRS REs 230 may be allocated for DMRS, which may be used for channel estimation purposes by UE 115. In some cases, DMRS REs may be allocated to certain REs, such as REs 1, 5, and 9. In such cases, the DMRS density per antenna port may be equal to 1 / 4 (e.g., three DMRS REs out of twelve total REs).

[0105] In some cases, UE 115 (e.g., UE 115-a) may receive scheduling parameters for PDSCH in the DCI of PDCCH. The scheduling parameters may include a TCI field, which may indicate one or more TCI states for PDSCH. Different TCI states distinguished by different values of the TCI field may correspond to QCL relationships transmitted with different reference signals. For example, each TCI state may be associated with one of the previously received reference signals. The TCI state may provide a spatial QCL reference that UE 115 can use to set a receive beam. By configuring the TCI state at UE 115, base station 105 may dynamically select a beam for downlink transmission to UE 115, and UE 115 may select a corresponding receive beam to receive the downlink transmission. For downlink transmissions (such as PDSCH), base station 105-a may transmit an indication of the TCI state to UE 115-a, and UE 115-a may select a corresponding receive beam to receive the downlink transmission based on the indicated TCI state. The TCI state may be configured via higher layer signaling.

[0106] Multi-TCI state PDSCH can enhance diversity and reliability compared to single TCI state PDSCH. In some implementations, different spatial layers, RBs, or OFDM symbols or time slots from PDSCH can have different TCI states, which can enhance signaling diversity. In some cases, PDCCH can be configured to support a single TCI state. In such cases, the overall reliability of the network may depend on the reliability of both the downlink control channel and the downlink data channel. In order to increase network robustness and improve reliability, CORESET can be configured to support multi-TCI state PDCCH.

[0107] In some implementations, SDM technology may be applied to support multi-TCI state PDCCH. For example, the SDM scheme may include different TCI states within a single CORESET, wherein these TCI states may overlap in time, frequency, or both. In some cases, multiple (e.g., two) DMRS ports may be enabled for PDCCH. Each DMRS port may be associated with different layers. For example, the first layer and the first DMRS port may be associated with the first TCI state and the second layer and the second DMRS port may be associated with the second TCI state. DMRS ports may be orthogonal or non-orthogonal to each other. In the case of orthogonal DMRS ports, REs may be assigned so that the first RE set of REG is assigned to the first DMRS port and the second RE set orthogonal to the first set is assigned to the second port. Additionally or alternatively, multiple DMRS ports may be CDMed within one or more REs so that multiple DMRS ports (and thus, multiple TCI states) may be associated with the same one or more REs. In the case of non-orthogonal DMRS ports, the same RE may be used for multiple TCI states, where a scrambling sequence may be applied to the DMRS associated with the TCI state. Multiple ports may also be configured for control REs, where control information may be transmitted over the multiple ports and layers. In some cases, the same control information or different control information may be transmitted simultaneously over different ports.

[0108] Figure 3A and 3B The example CORESETs 300 and 301 supporting SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels according to various aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated respectively. The CORESETs 300 and 301 may be implemented by a base station or a UE, and they may be referenced to Figure 1 and 2 An example of a base station 105 and a UE 115 is described. In some cases, CORESET 300 and CORESET 301 may be configured to support multi-TCI state PDCCH. For example, SDM techniques may be applied to CORESET 300 and 301 to support transmission of PDCCH DMRS on different DMRS ports and TCI states to enhance the diversity of PDCCH by allowing multiple beams or TCI states in one CORESET while also allowing separate channel estimation for two DMRS ports corresponding to two TCI states.

[0109] In order to support multi-TCI state PDCCH, an SDM scheme may be implemented so that multiple orthogonal DMRS ports may be configured for PDCCH, each of which may support a TCI state. In some cases, multiple layers may also be configured, each of which corresponds to a DMRS port. For example, PDCCH may be configured with two DMRS antenna ports and two layers. The first layer may be associated with the first DMRS port and the second layer may be associated with the second DMRS port. Each DMRS port and layer may indicate a separate TCI state. For example, the first layer and DMRS port may be associated with the first TCI state and the second layer and DMRS port may be associated with the second TCI state.

[0110] Figure 3A A CORESET supporting multiple DMRS ports is illustrated, where different DMRS ports are assigned to different REs of REG 305. For example, a first set of REs is assigned to a first DMRS port and a second set of REs orthogonal to the first set of REs is assigned to a second DMRS port. In some cases, the DMRS ports configured for DMRS transmission may be considered to be FDM. Any number of REs in any combination or order may be configured for DMRS port 0, DMRS port 1, or control information, or any combination thereof.

[0111] As reference Figure 2 As described, each REG 305 in each OFDM symbol may include a DMRS RE. In some cases, the REG may be configured so that the DMRS RE density per DMRS port is 1 / 4. For example, a REG may include twelve REs, and three of these REs (e.g., RE 1, 5, and 9) may be assigned for DMRS and the remaining nine REs may be assigned for DCI decoded bits. The number of decoded bits that the base station 105 can transmit for DCI may be calculated by multiplying the number of control REs (e.g., non-DMRS REs) by the number of access layers, the number of REGs in CCE, QPSK, and the number of physical layers. For example, for nine control REs (e.g., when the DMRS density is 1 / 4), 1 access layer, 6 REGs in CCE, 2QPSK, and 1 physical layer, the number of decoded bits in the PDCCH is 108 (e.g., 9*1*6*2*1=108). In this way, when the number of access layers increases, the number of decoded bits also increases. For example, maintaining all other variables from the previous example, 2 access layers will provide 216 decoded bits, 4 access layers will provide 432 decoded bits, 8 access layers will provide 864 decoded bits, and 16 access layers will provide 1728 decoded bits. Increasing the number of physical layers will also increase the number of decoded bits.

[0112] In the case of supporting multiple TCI state PDCCHs using multiple physical layers and ports by assigning different REs to different DMRS ports, the DMRS overhead increases and the number of decoded bits increases because the number of layers per RE increases. For example, each RE in REG 305 may be assigned two layers. Each control RE 310 may utilize two layers, where the DMRS RE may utilize the layer corresponding to the assigned DMRS port and TCI state. For example, Figure 3A , REG 305 may include twelve REs (e.g., REs 0 to 11). REs 1, 5, and 9 may be assigned to DMRS port 0 315 (which may correspond to TCI state 1) and may be transmitted across the first layer. REGs 2, 6, and 10 may be assigned to DMRS port 1 320 (which may correspond to TCI state 2) and may be transmitted across the second layer. REs 0, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 11 may be control REs 310 that may be used for coded bits of DCI. Control REs 310 may be assigned and utilize two layers from TCI state 1 and TCI state 2. In such examples, the density of 1 / 4 DMRS per port does not change, but the DMRS overhead does change because a total of six REs of REG 305 may be used instead of three REs. As the number of layers per control RE 310 increases, the number of coded bits increases, even if the number of control REs 310 is reduced from a single TCI state PDCCH configuration. For example, in the case of one layer and one DMRS (such as in a single TCI state PDCCH), 104 decoded bits are possible. Alternatively, in the case of two layers and two DMRS ports using six REs of REG 305, the number of decoded bits may be equal to 144 (e.g., 6*1*6*2*2=144).

[0113] Figure 3B A CORESET supporting multiple DMRS ports is illustrated, where different DMRS ports are assigned to the same RE of REG 305. For example, by using orthogonal codes, a set of REs can be used simultaneously by two different DMRS ports. Figure 3BREG 305-a and REG 305-b are depicted. REG 305-a and REG 305-b may be the same REG 305, but are depicted separately for clarity. Within the same RE of REG 305, two DMRS ports may be configured. For example, REs 0, 1, 6, and 7 may be configured for DMRS using DMRS port 0 and the first layer corresponding to TCI state 1 (as depicted by REG 305-a) and using DMRS port 1 320 and the second layer corresponding to TCI state 2 (as depicted by REG 305-b). Since REs 0, 1, 6, and 7 are configured for DMRS, the per-port DMRS density of REG 305 may be increased from 1 / 4 to 1 / 3. Any number of REs in any combination or order may be configured for DMRS port 0, DMRS port 1, or control information, or any combination thereof.

[0114] In order to make the DMRS ports orthogonal, a frequency domain orthogonal cover code (FD-OCC) may be applied to the two ports so that the two DMRS ports may be CDM. CDM is a multiple access technology in which signals may be transmitted simultaneously but may be separated by unique orthogonal codes. For example, the CDM codes applied to REG 305-a may all be positive, so that positive signs are applied to REs 0, 1, 6, and 7 of DMRS port 0 315. The CDM codes applied to REG 305-b may alternate between positive and negative signs for DMRS REs, so that positive signs may be applied to REs 0 and 6 of DMRS port 1 320 and negative signs may be applied to REs 1 and 7 of DMRS port 1 320. Compared to the reference Figure 3A As described for dividing DMRS ports among REs, by performing CDM on multiple DMRS ports within the same RE, DMRS overhead can be reduced because fewer REs are used for DMRS.

[0115] The base station or UE may be configured to determine the following: Figure 3A The SDM techniques described in 3B (e.g., DMRS ports are assigned to different REs) or 3B (e.g., DMRS ports are assigned to the same RE). For example, the SDM configuration may be included in an RRC message as part of the CORESET configuration information. In some cases, the number of DMRS ports may be configurable and may be indicated in the RRC as part of the CORESET configuration information.

[0116] Figure 4An example of a CORESET 400 supporting SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The CORESET 400 may include an RB 405 including a plurality of subcarriers 415 in the frequency domain and may include a plurality of OFDM symbols 410 in the time domain. The CORESET 400 may be implemented by a base station or a UE, which may be a reference Figure 1 and 2 Examples of base stations 105 and UEs 115 described. In some cases, CORESET 400 may be configured to support multi-TCI state PDCCH. For example, SDM technology may be applied to CORESET 400 to support transmission of PDCCH DMRS on different DMRS ports and TCI states to improve DMRS reliability.

[0117] In some cases, a CORESET may include more than one symbol 410 and include multiple RBs (one of which RB 405 is illustrated), where an RB may be referred to as a REG and may include twelve REs or subcarriers 415. For example, a CORESET 400 includes three symbols 410. In some cases, each REG of the CORESET 400 (e.g., one symbol by one RB) may include a DMRS. In this case, a larger DMRS overhead of the CORESET 400 may result. In some cases, a portion of the REGs in the CORESET 400 include a DMRS, and some of the REGs may not include a DMRS. For example, a REG in the first symbol of the CORESET 400 may include a DMRS, while a REG in a subsequent symbol may not include a DMRS, such as Figure 4 In such a case, more resources may be used to transmit the coded bits in the control RE 420.

[0118] In some implementations, the DMRS density may be increased from 1 / 4 DMRS density in the first symbol because subsequent symbols may not contain DMRS. In some cases, each RE in the first symbol may be allocated for DMRS transmission. In this way, the number of decoded bits that can be transmitted in the first symbol may be reduced. In some cases, the DMRS density of the first symbol may remain at 1 / 4, while the previous symbol may not contain DMRS transmission. The DMRS density in the first symbol or the previous symbol may vary depending on the duration of CORESET 400. In some cases, the larger the duration (e.g., the more symbols in CORESET 400), the denser the DMRS REs in the first symbol may be. For example, the DMRS density of a 1-symbol CORESET 400 may be smaller than that of a 3-symbol CORESET 400 because the decoded bits of the DCI still need to be transmitted in a 1-symbol CORESET 400.

[0119] In some implementations, since DMRS is not transmitted in each symbol, it may be necessary to correct the phase of the symbol. In order to correct the phase of the previous symbol (e.g., the second and third symbols), one or more REs of the previous symbol may be configured to include a phase tracking reference signal (PTRS). Compared to DMRS, PTRS can utilize fewer frequency domain resources. In this way, PTRS can use less overhead than DMRS. In some cases, one port can be configured for PTRS for PDCCH. In some cases, two or more ports can be configured for PTRS for PDCCH. The configuration for PTRS, such as the number of ports, configured REs, or RE patterns, can be identified in the CORESET configuration of RRC.

[0120] In the case of dual PTRS ports, the first port may be associated with a first DMRS port corresponding to a first TCI state, and the second PTRS port may be associated with a second DMRS port corresponding to a second TCI state. For example, CORESET 400 may include 3 symbols. The first symbol may include more than one DMRS RE, such as four REs configured for DMRS port 0 425, and four REs configured for DMRS port 1 430, wherein the per-port DMRS density of each port is 1 / 3. The per-port DMRS density may be higher or lower than 1 / 3. In some cases, the per-port DMRS density may be the same or different between different RBs 405. The second symbol may have two REs configured for PTRS transmission (such as through PTRS port 0 435 and PTRS port 1 440), wherein PTRS port 0 435 may be associated with DMRS port 0 425 and PTRS port 1 440 may be associated with DMRS port 1 440. The third symbol may have two REs configured for PTRS transmission (such as through PTRS port 0 425 and PTRS port 1 440).

[0121] In some implementations, the PTRS density in the time domain (such as the number of PTRS REs in the second and third symbols, or the number of PTRS REs in only the second symbol or only the third symbol) may be configurable. For example, the CORESET configuration of the RRC message may indicate that the second and third symbols contain four PTRS REs and that two PTRS REs are configured in the second symbol and two PTRS REs are configured in the third symbol (e.g., Figure 4), wherein the second symbol includes 2 REs configured for PTRS transmission and the third symbol includes 2 REs configured for PTRS transmission. In some implementations, the PTRS density in the frequency domain may be configurable (e.g., in the CORESET configuration of the RRC message), or may be a function of the number of RBs of the CORESET, or a combination thereof. For example, the number of PTRS REs in the frequency domain may be defined such that there are x PTRS REs for every K RBs (e.g., K=1, 2, 4). Additionally or alternatively, the number of PTRS REs may be defined based on REs (e.g., there are x PTRS REs for every K REs).

[0122] Figure 5 An example of a CORESET 500 supporting SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The CORESET 500 may include multiple REs in the frequency domain and may include multiple OFDM symbols in the time domain. The CORESET 500 may be implemented by a base station or a UE, which may be a reference Figure 1 and 2 Examples of base stations 105 and UEs 115 described. In some cases, CORESET 500 may be configured to support multi-TCI state PDCCH. For example, SDM technology may be applied to CORESET 500 to support transmission of PDCCH DMRS on different DMRS ports and TCI states to improve DMRS reliability.

[0123] In order to support multi-TCI state PDCCH, an SDM scheme may be implemented so that multiple non-orthogonal DMRS ports may be configured for PDCCH, wherein each DMRS port may support a TCI state. Each DMRS port may be associated with a different TCI state. For example, a first DMRS port may be associated with a first TCI state and a second DMRS port may be associated with a second TCI state.

[0124] In some cases, the same RE may be used for PDCCH DMRS across two TCI states. For example, REG 505 may include twelve REs, such as control RE 510 and REs configured for DMRS transmission through DMRS ports 0 and 1 515. In order to distinguish DMRS across multiple ports and TCI states, a scrambling sequence may be applied to the DMRS based on the port or layer used to transmit the DMRS. In some cases, there may be gaps across multiple antenna panels that the UE may use to receive PDCCH, where two panels may correspond to each TCI state in multiple TCI states.

[0125] In some implementations, the DCI in the CORESET may include a scrambling ID for the PDCCH DMRS (e.g., pdcch-DMRS-ScramblingID). The scrambling ID may be used for PDCCH scrambling initialization. In some cases, the same value used for scrambling initialization may be used for the decoded bits of the DCI. In some cases, the scrambling ID may not be configured, and the UE may instead use the physical cell identifier (PCI) of the serving cell from the scrambling initialization. In some cases, the same scrambling ID indicated in the CORESET may be associated with TCI state 1 so that the DMRS transmitted on port 0 associated with TCI state 1 may be scrambled according to the existing scrambling ID. In some cases, a new scrambling ID (e.g., a new pdcch-DMRS-ScramblingID) may be configured for TCI state 2 so that the DMRS transmitted on port 1 associated with TCI state 2 may be scrambled according to the new scrambling ID. The scrambling ID may also be used to scramble the coded bits of the DCI transmitted in the control RE 510. The coded bits of the DCI may be scrambled based on the layers across which they are transmitted, where the layers across which they are transmitted may be associated with a TCI state.

[0126] Figure 6 An example of a process flow 600 for supporting SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The process flow 600 may illustrate an example PDCCH configuration procedure based on an SDM scheme. For example, a base station 105-b may indicate a multi-TCI state PDCCH configuration to a UE 115-b. The base station 105-b and the UE 115-b may be referenced Figures 1 to 5 Examples of corresponding wireless devices described. In some cases, instead of base station 105-b implementing PDCCH configuration, a different type of wireless device (e.g., UE 115) can configure a multi-TCI state PDCCH. The following alternative examples can be implemented, in which some of the steps are performed in a different order than described or not performed at all. In some cases, each step may include additional features not mentioned below, or further steps may be added.

[0127] At 605, the base station 105-b may identify, based on the SDM map, an association between resources of a CORESET for a downlink control channel and a plurality of TCI states for the CORESET.

[0128] At 610, the base station 150-b may transmit a configuration message to the UE 115-b indicating that a CORESET for a downlink control channel is associated with a plurality of TCI states.

[0129] At 615, UE 115-b may identify associations between resources of the CORESET and the plurality of TCI states based on the SDM mapping. In some cases, identifying the SDM mapping includes a first association between a first DMRS port and a first TCI state in the plurality of TCI states, and a second association between a second DMRS port and a second TCI state in the plurality of TCI states. In some cases, the first DMRS port and the second DMRS port are orthogonal. In some cases, the first DMRS port and the second DMRS port are non-orthogonal.

[0130] In some cases, UE 115-b may identify that a first one or more REs of a REG in the CORESET are associated with a first DMRS port, identify that a second one or more REs of the REG in the CORESET are associated with a second DMRS port, and identify that the first DMRS port is associated with a first TCI state in the plurality of TCI states and the second DMRS port is associated with a second TCI state in the plurality of TCI states. In some cases, the first one or more REs of the REG are different from the second one or more REs of the REG, as described with reference to Figure 3A As described.

[0131] In some cases, UE 115-b may identify that one or more REs of a REG in the CORESET are associated with a first DMRS port, identify that the one or more REs of the REG in the CORESET are also associated with a second DMRS port, wherein the first DMRS port and the second DMRS port are orthogonal via code division multiplexing, and identify that the first DMRS port is associated with a first TCI state in the multiple TCI states and the second DMRS port is associated with a second TCI state in the multiple TCI states. In some implementations, the same RE of a REG may be assigned to different DMRS ports. In some implementations, different REs of a REG may be assigned to different DMRS ports. In some cases, the DMRS ports assigned to the same RE may be orthogonal or non-orthogonal. In the case of orthogonal DMRS ports within the same RE, the DMRS ports may be CDM. In the case of non-orthogonal DMRS ports within the same RE, the DMRS ports may be scrambled via a scrambling ID.

[0132] At 620, UE 115-b may decode the downlink control channel based on the SDM map.

[0133] Figure 7A block diagram 700 of a device 705 supporting SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The device 705 may be an example of aspects of a UE 115 as described herein. The device 705 may include a receiver 710, a communication manager 715, and a transmitter 720. The device 705 may also include a processor. Each of these components may be in communication with each other (e.g., via one or more buses).

[0134] The receiver 710 may receive information such as packets, user data, or control information associated with various information channels (e.g., control channels, data channels, and information related to SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels, etc.). The information may be passed to other components of the device 705. The receiver 710 may be a reference Fig.10 Examples of aspects of the described transceiver 1020. The receiver 710 may utilize a single antenna or a collection of antennas.

[0135] The communication manager 715 may receive a configuration message indicating that a CORESET for a downlink control channel is associated with a TCI state set; identify an association between resources of the CORESET and the TCI state set based at least in part on an SDM map; and decode the downlink control channel based at least in part on the SDM map. The communication manager 715 may be an example of aspects of the communication manager 1010 described herein.

[0136] The communication manager 715 or its subcomponents may be implemented in hardware, software (e.g., executed by a processor), or any combination thereof. If implemented in code executed by a processor, the functions of the communication manager 715 or its subcomponents may be performed by a general purpose processor, a digital signal processor (DSP), an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof designed to perform the functions described in the present disclosure.

[0137] The communication manager 715 or its subcomponents may be physically located at various locations, including being distributed such that portions of functionality are implemented by one or more physical components at different physical locations. [0139] The communication manager 715 as described herein may be implemented to achieve one or more potential advantages. One implementation may allow the device 705 to more reliably receive a downlink control channel. For example, multiple TCI states may be configured for a CORESET associated with a downlink control channel, which may provide the device 705 with additional quasi-co-location information, such as additional knowledge about reference signals that are QCL. This may enable the device 705 to improve channel estimation for the downlink control channel and enhance the ability of the device 705 to accurately manage different receive beams for receiving the downlink control channel.

[0140] Based at least in part on implementing the multi-TCI state configuration techniques described herein, a processor of UE 115 (e.g., controlling receiver 710, transmitter 720, or as described in reference to Fig.10 The described transceiver 1020) can increase the reliability and efficiency of downlink control channel communications.

[0141] Figure 8 A block diagram 800 of a device 805 supporting SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The device 805 may be an example of aspects of the device 705 or UE 115 as described herein. The device 805 may include a receiver 810, a communication manager 815, and a transmitter 835. The communication manager 815 may be an example of aspects of the communication manager 1010 as described herein.

[0144] The configuration message receiver 820 may receive a configuration message indicating that a CORESET for a downlink control channel is associated with a TCI state set. The SDM mapping module 825 may identify an association between resources of the CORESET and the TCI state set based at least in part on the SDM mapping. The DCI decoder 830 may decode the downlink control channel based at least in part on the SDM mapping.

[0145] The transmitter 835 can transmit signals generated by other components of the device 805. In some examples, the transmitter 835 can be co-located with the receiver 810 in a transceiver module. For example, the transmitter 835 can be a reference Fig.10 Examples of aspects of the described transceiver 1020. The transmitter 835 may utilize a single antenna or a collection of antennas.

In some examples, the configuration message receiver 910 may receive an indication of the number of DMRS ports configured for the CORESET.

[0148] The SDM mapping module 915 may identify an association between a resource of the CORESET and the TCI state set based at least in part on the SDM mapping. In some examples, the SDM mapping module 915 may identify that the one or more REs of the REG in the CORESET are also associated with a second DMRS port, wherein the first DMRS port and the second DMRS port are orthogonal via code division multiplexing. In some examples, the SDM mapping module 915 may identify that each element group in each symbol of the CORESET includes one or more REs associated with the first DMRS port and one or more REs associated with the second DMRS port.

[0151] In some examples, the SDM mapping module 915 may identify that the additional REGs in the CORESET also include REs commonly associated with both the first DMRS port and the second DMRS port. In some examples, the SDM mapping module 915 may identify that each REG in the first symbol of the CORESET includes one or more REs associated with the first DMRS port and one or more REs associated with the second DMRS port.

[0152] In some examples, the SDM mapping module 915 may identify that the additional REGs in the additional symbols of the CORESET do not include REs assigned for DMRS. In some examples, the SDM mapping module 915 may identify that the one or more REs of the REG in the CORESET are also associated with a second DMRS port, wherein the first DMRS port and the second DMRS port are non-orthogonal but use different scrambling sequences.

[0153] In some cases, the first DMRS port and the second DMRS port are orthogonal. In some cases, the first DMRS port and the second DMRS port are non-orthogonal. In some cases, the first one or more REs of the REG are different from the second one or more REs of the REG. In some cases, the density of the one or more REs assigned for DMRS in the REG in the first codeword is based at least in part on the number of codewords in the CORESET. In some cases, the at least one PTRS includes a first PTRS associated with the first DMRS port and a second PTRS associated with the second DMRS port. In some cases, the different scrambling sequences are based at least in part on a first DMRS scrambling identifier associated with a first TCI state and a second DMRS scrambling identifier associated with a second TCI state.

[0154] The DCI decoder 920 may decode the downlink control channel based at least in part on the SDM mapping. The PTRS module 925 may identify that at least one of the additional symbols of the CORESET includes at least one PTRS. In some examples, the PTRS module 925 may receive an indication of whether the at least one PTRS is for one port or two ports.

[0155] In some examples, the PTRS module 925 may receive an indication of a time domain density of the at least one PTRS within an additional symbol of the CORESET. In some examples, the PTRS module 925 may receive an indication of a frequency domain density of the at least one PTRS within an additional REG of an additional symbol of the CORESET.

[0156] The DCI module 930 may receive coded bits of a downlink control channel across a first layer and a second layer, wherein the first layer is associated with a first TCI state and the second layer is associated with a second TCI state. In some examples, the DCI module 930 may decode the coded bits of the DCI based at least in part on a scrambling sequence applied to the coded bits of the DCI, wherein the scrambling sequence is based at least in part on the layers across which the coded bits are received.

[0157] Fig.10A diagram of a system 1000 including a device 1005 supporting SDM mapping of TCI states to control channels according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The device 1005 may be an example of a device 705, a device 805, or a UE 115 as described herein or include components of the above devices. These components may be in electronic communication via one or more buses (e.g., a bus 1045).

[0158] The communication manager 1010 may receive a configuration message indicating that a CORESET for downlink control information is associated with a TCI state set; identify an association between resources of the CORESET and the TCI state set based at least in part on an SDM mapping; and decode the downlink control channel based at least in part on the SDM mapping.

In some cases, I / O controller 1015 can represent a physical connection or port to an external peripheral device. In some cases, I / O controller 1015 can utilize an operating system, such as Or another known operating system. In other cases, I / O controller 1015 may represent or interact with a modem, keyboard, mouse, touch screen, or similar device. In some cases, I / O controller 1015 may be implemented as part of a processor. [0160] The transceiver 1020 may communicate bidirectionally via one or more antennas, wired or wireless links, as described above. For example, the transceiver 1020 may represent a wireless transceiver and may communicate bidirectionally with another wireless transceiver. The transceiver 1020 may also include a modem to modulate packets and provide the modulated packets to an antenna for transmission, and demodulate packets received from an antenna.

[0161] In some cases, a wireless device may include a single antenna 1025. However, in some cases, the device may have more than one antenna 1025, which may be capable of transmitting or receiving multiple wireless transmissions concurrently.
