Abstract

Methods, systems, and apparatus for wireless communications are described that support communications between a base station and a user equipment (UE) via multiple transmit receive points (TRPs). The base station may configure the UE to report a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) for various transmission modes, including one or more transmission modes for multiple TRPs. The UE may determine and report to the base station a first PMI for each single TRP transmission mode, and the base station may use the first PMI to determine a precoding matrix for each TRP. The UE may determine and report to the base station a partial PMI for one or more multi-TRP transmission modes. The base station may determine a precoding matrix for each multi-TRP transmission mode using the corresponding partial PMI, and may communicate with the UE using the determined precoding matrix.

Description

Technical Field

[0001] The following relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly to channel state information (CSI) feedback for multiple transmit receive points (TRPs).

[0002] background

[0003] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, etc. These systems may be able to support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems (such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, advanced LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems), and fifth generation (5G) systems, which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems. These systems may use various technologies, such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform extended orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations or one or more network access nodes, each base station or network access node simultaneously supporting the communication of multiple communication devices, which may be referred to as user equipment (UE) in addition.

[0004] In some cases, a base station may communicate with a UE via multiple transmit receive points (TRPs). The base station may request certain feedback (e.g., channel state information (CSI) feedback, such as a precoding matrix indicator (PMI)) from the UE for each TRP and combination of TRPs. In some cases, this feedback may result in increased overhead and associated system latency.

[0005] Overview

[0006] The described techniques relate to improved methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses that support channel state information (CSI) feedback for multiple transmit reception points (TRPs). In general, the described techniques provide communication between a base station and a user equipment (UE) via multiple TRPs in an uplink and / or downlink. The communication between the base station and the UE may include one or more multi-TRP transmission modes, and the base station may configure the UE to report CSI, which includes precoding matrix information for various transmission modes (e.g., including one or more multi-TRP transmission modes), such as a precoding matrix indicator (PMI). For example, the base station may configure the UE to report PMI for individual TRPs in multiple TRPs (e.g., for a first TRP, a second TRP) and for one or more combinations of different TRPs in multiple TRPs (e.g., for a combination of a first and a second TRP).

[0007] The UE may independently determine and report to the base station a first (e.g., complete, full) PMI for each single TRP transmission mode using one or more approaches (e.g., including or excluding frequency compression). For example, the UE may determine or identify one or more matrices for each TRP independently of any other TRP, and may transmit the one or more matrices to the base station. The base station may determine a precoding matrix for each individual TRP using the corresponding matrix or information included in the corresponding matrix. The UE may additionally determine and report to the base station a second (e.g., partial, incomplete, reduced, replaced) PMI for one or more transmission modes including a combination of TRPs (e.g., a multi-TRP transmission mode).

[0008] In a first example, the second PMI may indicate a set of columns of each precoding matrix associated with each corresponding TRP (e.g., in a multi-TRP transmission mode) of a TRP combination. In a second example, the second PMI may include a matrix associated with each corresponding TRP (e.g., in a multi-TRP transmission mode) of a TRP combination. The base station may use the corresponding second PMI, or information included in the corresponding second PMI (possibly in combination with the corresponding precoding matrix (or associated first PMI) associated with a given transmission multi-TRP transmission mode for an individual TRP included in the multiple TRPs) to determine the precoding matrix for each transmission mode including the multiple TRPs. In the first example, the base station may determine the precoding matrix by performing block diagonalization on the indicated set of columns. In the second example, the base station may determine the precoding matrix by performing block diagonalization on the product of one or more matrices (e.g., or columns thereof) included in the first PMI of the corresponding TRP and the corresponding matrix included in the second PMI. The base station may use the precoding matrix determined using the second PMI for communication with the UE.

The method may include: receiving, at a UE, a request for precoding matrix information related to a transmission mode set associated with a TRP set for a base station; transmitting, from the UE to the base station, a respective precoding matrix information report for each transmission mode in a first subset of the transmission mode set; and transmitting, from the UE to the base station, a respective partial precoding matrix information report for each transmission mode in a second subset of the transmission mode set.

[0071] Detailed Description

[0072] A base station may include, be coupled to, or otherwise communicate via two or more (e.g., multiple) transmit receive points (TRPs). For example, a base station may communicate with a user equipment (UE) in an uplink and / or downlink via two or more TRPs and using one or more multi-TRP transmission modes (a mode in which communication occurs via at least two of the two or more TRPs). In some cases, the base station may configure the UE to report channel state information (CSI) including precoding matrix indicator information (which may alternatively be referred to as precoding matrix information or, for simplicity, as PMI) for various transmission modes (e.g., including one or more multi-TRP transmission modes). For example, the base station may configure the UE to report PMI for a first TRP, for a second TRP, and for a combination of the first and second TRPs, where communication according to the multi-TRP transmission mode occurs via both the first and second TRPs.

[0073] In some cases, the PMI reported for the multi-TRP transmission mode may increase transmission overhead, for example, due to the number of CSI bits required to transmit the PMI for multiple transmission assumptions associated with the multi-TRP transmission mode. The increased overhead may increase waiting time, reduce available energy at the UE, etc. A modified CSI reporting scheme for multi-TRP communication may reduce the number of bits used to transmit the PMI and corresponding CSI feedback. For example, the UE may use a PMI reporting scheme that reduces the amount of reported information for the multi-TRP transmission mode, thereby outperforming and surpassing the amount of information reported for the single TRP transmission mode for each TRP associated with the multi-TRP transmission mode. The PMI reporting scheme may include a scheme for reporting CSI feedback from the UE to the base station, and may be applied to the PMI with or without frequency compression.

[0074] The UE may independently determine and report to the base station the first (complete, full) PMI for each single TRP transmission mode using one or more methods (e.g., including or excluding frequency compression). For example, the UE may determine or identify one or more PMI-related matrices for each TRP independently of any other TRP, and may transmit the one or more matrices to the base station. The base station may determine the precoding matrix for each TRP using the corresponding matrix or information included in the corresponding matrix.

[0075] The UE may additionally determine and report to the base station a second (e.g., partial, incomplete, reduced, replaced) PMI for one or more transmission modes (e.g., a multi-TRP transmission mode) including a combination of TRPs. In some cases, the second PMI and the first PMI may be included in the same CSI report message, and in some cases, the second PMI and the first PMI may be included in different CSI report messages. The second PMI may include less information than the first PMI, so that the first PMI may be referred to as a complete PMI and the second PMI may be referred to as a partial PMI.

[0076] In a first example, the second PMI may indicate a set of columns of each precoding matrix associated with each corresponding TRP of the TRP combination (e.g., an individual TRP in a multi-TRP transmission mode). For example, the second PMI may indicate a first set of columns of a first precoding matrix associated with a first TRP (e.g., using a column number or using a column index), and may indicate a second set of columns of a second precoding matrix associated with a second TRP.

[0077] In a second example, the second PMI may include a matrix associated with each corresponding TRP of the TRP combination (e.g., in a multi-TRP transmission mode). For example, the second PMI may include a first matrix associated with the first TRP, and may include a second matrix associated with the second TRP, wherein the base station may use the matrix included in the second PMI for the relevant TRP and one or more matrices included in the first PMI to determine the precoding matrix for the TRP combination. In some cases, the second PMI may include the first and second matrices, and may further indicate a set of columns in one or more matrices of the first PMI, wherein the base station may use the matrix included in the second PMI and the indicated set of columns to determine the precoding matrix using the second PMI. Here, where the PMI is discussed as including or indicating a matrix or aspects thereof (e.g., columns), it should be understood that the PMI may indicate values associated with matrix elements (e.g., quantization results), which in some cases may be associated with one or more codebook indices of a precoding codebook.

[0078] The base station may use the corresponding second PMI, or information included in the corresponding second PMI, to determine a precoding matrix for each transmission mode including multiple TRPs (e.g., each transmission mode including a combination of TRPs). In a first example, the base station may determine the precoding matrix by performing block diagonalization on the indicated set of columns. In a second example, the base station may determine the precoding matrix by performing block diagonalization on the product of one or more matrices (e.g., or columns thereof) included in the first PMI of the corresponding TRP and the corresponding matrix included in the second PMI. The base station may use the precoding matrix determined using the second PMI for communication with the UE, for example, to implement beamformed communication, to reduce interference between TRPs associated with the base station, or to increase data throughput, etc.

[0079] Aspects of the present disclosure are initially described in the context of wireless communication systems. Aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described by and with reference to process flows, apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flowcharts related to channel state information feedback for multiple transmit-receive points.

[0080] Figure 1 An example of a wireless communication system 100 supporting CSI feedback for multiple TRPs according to various aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more base stations 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, an advanced LTE (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, or a new radio (NR) network. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support enhanced broadband communications, ultra-reliable (e.g., mission-critical) communications, low latency communications, communications with low-cost and low-complexity devices, or any combination thereof.

[0081] The base stations 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communication system 100, and may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. The base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may communicate wirelessly via one or more communication links 125. Each base station 105 may provide a coverage area 110 over which the UEs 115 and the base stations 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which the base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may support communication of signals according to one or more radio access technologies.

[0082] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary or mobile, or stationary and mobile at different times. The UEs 115 may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. Figure 1Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. 1. The UEs 115 described herein may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, base stations 105, or network equipment (e.g., core network nodes, relay devices, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes, or other network equipment), such as Figure 1 as shown in .

[0083] Each base station 105 may communicate with the core network 130, or communicate with each other, or both. For example, the base station 105 may interface with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul links 120 (e.g., via S1, N2, N3, or other interfaces). The base stations 105 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., directly between the base stations 105), or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130), or directly and indirectly on the backhaul link 120 (e.g., via X2, Xn, or other interfaces). In some examples, the backhaul link 120 may be or include one or more wireless links.

[0084] One or more of the base stations 105 described herein may include or may be referred to by a person of ordinary skill in the art as a base transceiver station, a radio base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a B node, an evolved B node (eNB), a next generation B node or a gigabit B node (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a home B node, a home evolved B node, or other suitable terminology.

[0085] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable term, where a "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, etc. UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as electrical appliances or vehicles, meters, etc.

[0086] The UE 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, which may sometimes act as relays, as well as base stations 105 and network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, relay base stations, etc. Figure 1 as shown in .

[0087] The UE 115 and the base station 105 may communicate wirelessly with each other via one or more communication links 125 on one or more carriers. The term "carrier" may refer to a set of radio frequency spectrum resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting the communication link 125. For example, a carrier for the communication link 125 may include a portion of a radio frequency spectrum band (e.g., a bandwidth portion (BWP)) that operates according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating carrier operations, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 may support communication with the UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. The UE 115 may be configured to have multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers according to a carrier aggregation configuration. Carrier aggregation may be used in conjunction with both frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers.

[0088] The signal waveform transmitted on the carrier may include multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system using MCM technology, a resource element may include a code element period (e.g., the duration of a modulation code element) and a subcarrier, where the code element period and the subcarrier spacing are inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both). Thus, the more resource elements received by UE 115 and the higher the order of the modulation scheme, the higher the data rate of UE 115 can be. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of radio frequency spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial layers may further improve the data rate or data integrity of communication with UE 115.

[0089] The time interval of the base station 105 or the UE 115 can be expressed as a multiple of a basic time unit, and the basic time unit can be, for example, a sampling period T s =1 / (Δf max ·Nf) seconds, where Δf max Nf may represent the maximum supported subcarrier spacing, and Nf may represent the maximum supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size. Time intervals of communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).

[0090] Each frame may include a plurality of consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, a frame may be divided into subframes (e.g., in the time domain), and each subframe may be further divided into a number of time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include a number of code element periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix added before each code element period). In some wireless communication systems 100, the time slot may be further divided into a plurality of mini-time slots containing one or more code elements. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each code element period may include one or more (e.g., Nf) sampling periods. The duration of the code element period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating frequency band.

[0091] A subframe, slot, mini-slot, or symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in bursts of shortened TTIs (sTTIs)).

[0092] Physical channels may be multiplexed on a carrier according to various techniques. Physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed on a downlink carrier, for example, using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) for a physical control channel may be defined by a number of symbol periods and may extend across a system bandwidth or a subset of a system bandwidth of a carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of UEs 115. For example, one or more of the UEs 115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. An aggregation level for a control channel candidate may refer to the number of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information for a control information format having a given payload size. The search space sets may include a common search space set configured for transmitting control information to multiple UEs 115 and a UE-specific search space set for transmitting control information to a specific UE 115 .

[0093] In some examples, base stations 105 may be mobile and thus provide communication coverage for mobile geographic coverage areas 110. In some examples, different geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same base station 105. In other examples, overlapping geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different base stations 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of base stations 105 provide coverage for various geographic coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.

[0094] The wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low latency communication or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) or mission-critical communication. UE 115 may be designed to support ultra-reliable, low latency or critical functions (e.g., mission-critical functions). Ultra-reliable communication may include private communication or group communication, and may be supported by one or more mission-critical services (such as mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT), mission-critical video (MCVideo), or mission-critical data (MCData). Support for mission-critical functions may include prioritization of services, and mission-critical services may be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low latency, critical mission, and ultra-reliable low latency may be used interchangeably herein.

[0095] In some examples, UE 115 may also be able to communicate directly with other UE 115 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., using a peer-to-peer (P2P) or D2D protocol). One or more UEs 115 utilizing D2D communication may be within a geographic coverage area 110 of a base station 105. Other UEs 115 in such a group may be outside the geographic coverage area 110 of the base station 105, or may not be able to receive transmissions from the base station 105 for other reasons. In some examples, each group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may utilize a one-to-many (1:M) system, wherein each UE 115 transmits to each other UE 115 in the group. In some examples, the base station 105 facilitates the scheduling of resources for D2D communication. In other cases, D2D communication is performed between each UE 115 without involving the base station 105.

[0096] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), and the EPC or 5GC may include at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility, and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets or interconnecting to an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management of UE 115 served by a base station 105 associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be delivered via a user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to a network operator IP service 150. Operator IP services 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), or packet-switched streaming services.

[0097] Some network devices (such as base stations 105) may include subcomponents, such as access network entities 140, which may be examples of access node controllers (ANCs). Each access network entity 140 may communicate with each UE 115 through one or more other access network transport entities 145, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission / reception points (TRPs). Each access network transport entity 145 may include one or more antenna panels. In some configurations, the various functions of each access network entity 140 or base station 105 may be distributed across various network devices (e.g., radio heads and ANCs) or merged into a single network device (e.g., base station 105).

[0098] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands, typically in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). In general, the 300 MHz to 3 GHz region is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelengths range from about 1 decimeter to 1 meter long. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features, but these waves may penetrate various structures sufficiently for macro cells to provide service to UEs 115 located indoors. Transmissions using UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than transmissions using smaller frequencies and longer waves in the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.

[0099] The wireless communication system 100 may utilize both licensed and unlicensed radio frequency spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may employ licensed assisted access (LAA), LTE unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology in an unlicensed band (such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band). When operating in an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, devices (such as base stations 105 and UEs 115) may employ carrier sensing for conflict detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations in an unlicensed band may be based on a carrier aggregation configuration (e.g., LAA) in coordination with component carriers operating in a licensed band. Operations in an unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, among others.

[0100] The base station 105 or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which can be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the base station 105 or UE 115 may be located in one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels that can support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly (such as an antenna tower). In some examples, the antennas or antenna arrays associated with the base station 105 may be located at different geographical locations. The base station 105 may have an antenna array having antenna ports of several rows and columns that the base station 105 can use to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may have one or more antenna arrays that can support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support radio frequency beamforming for signals transmitted via the antenna ports.

[0101] The base station 105 or UE 115 can use MIMO communication to utilize multipath signal propagation and improve spectral efficiency by transmitting or receiving multiple signals via different spatial layers. Such technology may be referred to as spatial multiplexing. For example, the transmitting device may transmit multiple signals via different antennas or different antenna combinations. Similarly, the receiving device may receive multiple signals via different antennas or different antenna combinations. Each of the multiple signals may be referred to as a separate spatial stream and may carry bits associated with the same data stream (e.g., the same codeword) or different data streams (e.g., different codewords). Different spatial layers may be associated with different antenna ports for channel measurement and reporting. MIMO technology includes single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are transmitted to the same receiving device; and multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are transmitted to multiple devices.

[0102] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a base station 105, a UE 115) to shape or steer an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals communicated via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating at a particular orientation relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals communicated via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each antenna element may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular orientation (e.g., relative to, in lieu of, or relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device, or relative to some other orientation).

[0103] The base station 105 or the UE 115 may use beam sweeping techniques as part of a beamforming operation. For example, the base station 105 may use multiple antennas or antenna arrays (e.g., antenna panels) to perform beamforming operations for directional communication with the UE 115. Some signals (e.g., synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) may be transmitted multiple times by the base station 105 in different directions. For example, the base station 105 may transmit signals according to different sets of beamforming weights associated with different transmission directions. Transmissions in different beam directions may be used (e.g., by a transmitting device (such as the base station 105) or a receiving device (such as the UE 115)) to identify a beam direction used by the base station 105 for later transmission or reception.

[0104] Some signals, such as data signals associated with a particular recipient device, may be transmitted by base station 105 in a single beam direction, e.g., a direction associated with a recipient device, such as UE 115. In some examples, a beam direction associated with transmissions along a single beam direction may be determined based on signals transmitted in one or more beam directions. For example, UE 115 may receive one or more signals transmitted by base station 105 in different directions and may report to base station 105 an indication of the signal received by UE 115 with the highest signal quality or other acceptable signal quality.

[0105] In some examples, transmission by a device (e.g., by a base station 105 or a UE 115) may be performed using multiple beam directions, and the device may use a combination of digital precoding or radio frequency beamforming to generate a combined beam for transmission (e.g., from a base station 105 to a UE 115). The UE 115 may report feedback indicating precoding weights for one or more beam directions, and the feedback may correspond to a configured number of beams across a system bandwidth or one or more subbands. The base station 105 may transmit a reference signal (e.g., a cell-specific reference signal (CRS), a CSI reference signal (CSI-RS)) that may be precoded or uncoded. The UE 115 may provide feedback for beam selection, which may be a PMI or codebook-based feedback (e.g., a multi-panel type codebook, a linear combination type codebook, a port selection type codebook). Although these techniques are described with reference to signals transmitted by base station 105 in one or more directions, UE 115 may use similar techniques to transmit signals multiple times in different directions (e.g., to identify a beam direction for subsequent transmission or reception by UE 115) or to transmit signals in a single direction (e.g., to transmit data to a receiving device).

[0106] A receiving device (e.g., UE 115) may try multiple reception configurations (e.g., directional listening) when receiving various signals (such as synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) from a base station 105. For example, the receiving device may try multiple reception directions by receiving via different antenna subarrays, processing received signals according to different antenna subarrays, receiving according to different receive beamforming weight sets (e.g., different directional listening weight sets) applied to signals received at multiple antenna elements of an antenna array, or processing received signals according to different receive beamforming weight sets applied to signals received at multiple antenna elements of an antenna array, any of which may be referred to as "listening" according to different reception configurations or reception directions. In some examples, the receiving device may use a single reception configuration to receive along a single beam direction (e.g., when receiving a data signal). The single reception configuration may be aligned on a beam direction determined based on listening according to different reception configuration directions (e.g., a beam direction determined to have the highest signal strength, the highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), or other acceptable signal quality based on listening according to multiple beam directions).

[0107] The base station 105 and the UE may communicate via multiple TRPs, where the communication may include one or more multi-TRP transmission modes. The base station 105 may configure the UE to report CSI including a PMI for each transmission mode including one or more multi-TRP transmission modes. For example, the base station may configure the UE to report a PMI for a first TRP, for a second TRP, and for a combination of the first and second TRPs. The UE may independently determine and report to the base station a first PMI for each single TRP transmission mode using one or more methods. For example, the UE may determine or identify one or more matrices for each TRP independently of any other TRP, and may transmit the one or more matrices to the base station. The base station may determine a precoding matrix for each individual TRP using the corresponding matrix or information included in the corresponding matrix.

[0108] The UE may additionally determine and report to the base station a second PMI for one or more transmission modes (e.g., a multi-TRP transmission mode) including a combination of TRPs. In a first example, the second PMI may indicate a set of columns of each precoding matrix associated with each corresponding TRP (e.g., in a multi-TRP transmission mode) of the TRP combination. In a second example, the second PMI may include a matrix associated with each corresponding TRP (e.g., in a multi-TRP transmission mode) of the TRP combination. The base station may use the corresponding second PMI (possibly in combination with the first PMI or precoding matrix associated with the individual TRP of the TRP combination) to determine the precoding matrix for each transmission mode including multiple TRPs.

[0109] Figure 2 An example of a wireless communication system 200 that supports CSI feedback for multiple TRPs according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the wireless communication system 200 can include a base station 105-a and a UE 115-a, which can be as described with reference to Figure 1An example of a base station 105 and a UE 115 described. The base station 105-a may include, be coupled to, or otherwise communicate via two or more TRPs 205. For example, the base station 105-a may communicate with the UE 115-a in the uplink and / or downlink via TRP 205-a and via TRP 205-b (e.g., using one or more multi-TRP transmission modes). Although two TRPs 205 (e.g., TRPs 205-a and 205-b) are illustrated and described with reference to the methods described herein, it should be understood that the base station 105-a and the UE 115-a may communicate via two or more TRPs, and any methods or procedures applied to TRP 205-a and TRP 205-b may be extended to any number of TRPs 205 (e.g., N TRPs 205).

[0110] The base station 105-a may transmit from the TRPs 205-a and 205-b to the UE 115-a on a downlink communication link 210 (e.g., a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) link). The base station 105-a may also receive transmissions from the UE 115-a via the TRPs 205-a and 205-b on an uplink communication link 215 (e.g., a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) or a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) link). The TRP 205-a or TRP 205-b may be associated with one downlink communication link 210, multiple downlink communication links 210, one uplink communication link 215, multiple uplink communication links 215, or any combination thereof.

[0111] The downlink communication link 210 provided by TRPs 205-a and 205-b can increase downlink diversity gain, downlink system capacity (e.g., increase downlink data rate), and / or downlink cell coverage. Similarly, the uplink communication link 215 provided by TRPs 205-a and 205-b can increase uplink diversity gain, uplink system capacity (e.g., increase uplink data rate), and / or uplink cell coverage.

[0112] In some cases, as an example, the base station 105-a may configure the UE 115-a to report CSI feedback 220 via the uplink communication link 215 (e.g., via the PUCCH). The CSI feedback 220 may include information (e.g., including PMI) for various transmission modes (e.g., for assumptions of different combinations of TRPs 205). For example, the base station 105-a may configure the UE 115-a to report CSI feedback 220 for TRP 205-a, for TRP 205-b, and for a combination of TRPs 205-a and 205-b. The CSI feedback 220 for various transmission modes may support selecting one or more TRPs 205 for communication with the UE 115-a (e.g., selecting a transmission mode). The CSI feedback 220 may additionally support determining one or more precoding parameters for communication with the UE 115-a. UE 115-a may transmit CSI feedback 220 to one or both of TRPs 205-a and 205-b.

[0113] In some cases, the increased amount of PMI reported for multiple TRP hypotheses via CSI feedback 220 may increase transmission overhead (e.g., for one or more uplink channels, such as one or more PUCCHs) due to the number of CSI bits required to transmit the PMI for multiple hypotheses. The increased overhead may increase latency, reduce available energy at UE 115-a, etc. The modified CSI reporting scheme for multiple TRP communication may reduce or at least mitigate any increase in the number of bits used to transmit the PMI and corresponding CSI feedback 220.

[0114] For example, the base station 105-a may configure the UE 115-a, or the UE 115-a may have been previously configured (e.g., according to a communication standard), to use a CSI reporting scheme that reduces the amount of information associated with the PMI for a multi-TRP transmission mode. Thus, the number of bits used to transmit the associated CSI feedback 220 may be reduced, which may reduce overhead, reduce latency, and increase the energy available to the UE 115-a. The CSI reporting scheme may include two methods or steps for reporting CSI feedback 220 from the UE 115-a to the base station 105-a, and may be applied to the PMI with or without frequency compression.

[0115] In a first step, UE 115-a may independently determine and report to base station 105-a a first (complete, full) PMI for each individual TRP 205 (e.g., for TRP 205-a and TRP 205-b). UE 115-a may determine the first PMI (e.g., configured by base station 105-a or specified by a communication standard) using one or more methods, such as referring to Figure 3A and 4AFor example, UE 115-a may determine matrix W1 and matrix W2 for PMI reporting associated with a configured wideband, or may determine a single matrix W1 and multiple matrices W2 (e.g., one matrix for each subband in a configured set of subbands). Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-a may determine matrix W1, matrix W2, and matrix W1 for PMI reporting associated with a configured wideband. and The matrices W1, W2, and for further details.

[0116] The UE 115-a may determine the appropriate matrix for each TRP 205 (e.g., for TRP 205-a or TRP 205-b) independently of any other TRP 205, and may transmit these matrices to the base station 105-a (e.g., via CSI feedback 220). The base station 105-a may use the corresponding matrix or information included in the corresponding matrix to determine a precoding matrix (which may be referred to alternatively as a precoder in some cases) for each individual TRP 205 (e.g., for each transmission mode associated with only one TRP in the TRP 205). The base station 105-a may use this precoding matrix for communication with the UE 115-a, for example, to enable beamforming communication, reduce interference between TRPs 205 associated with the base station 105-a, or increase data throughput (e.g., via MIMO operation), etc.

[0117] In a second step, UE 115-a may determine and report to base station 105-a a second (e.g., partial, incomplete, reduced, replaced) PMI for one or more transmission modes including a combination of TRP 205 (e.g., for a transmission mode including a combination of TRPs 205-a and 205-b). In some cases, the second PMI and the first PMI may be included in the same CSI report message, and in some cases, the second PMI and the first PMI may be included in different CSI report messages. The second PMI may include less information than the first PMI, such that the first PMI may be referred to as a complete PMI and the second PMI may be referred to as a partial PMI.

[0118] For example, the second PMI may reuse information from the first PMI (e.g., indicate or otherwise account for some subset of that information), or may discard (e.g., exclude) information associated with the first PMI, or may otherwise include less information than the first PMI (e.g., for a smaller number of bits reported via communication link 215). In one example of reusing information, each TRP 205 may transmit or receive along a selected (e.g., highest quality) beam associated with UE 115-a, such that a PMI report for any mode including a given TRP 205 may include a beam index for the selected beam for that TRP 205, regardless of whether the TRP is used as part of a single-TRP transmission mode or a multi-TRP transmission mode. In an example of discarding information, some transmission beams from two TRPs 205 may have similar directions (e.g., from the perspective of UE 115-a) and may cause interference, such that some or all of these beams may be modified in a multi-TRP transmission mode.

[0119] In a first example of a second PMI, the second PMI may indicate a set of columns for each precoding matrix associated with each respective TRP 205 of a combination of TRPs 205. For example, the second PMI may indicate (e.g., using a number or using a column index) a first set of columns of a first precoding matrix associated with TRP 205-a, and may indicate a second set of columns of a second precoding matrix associated with TRP 205-b.

[0120] In a second example, the second PMI may include a matrix associated with each respective TRP 205 of the combination of TRPs 205. For example, the second PMI may include the first matrix associated with TRP 205-a and may include a second matrix associated with TRP 205-b In some cases, the second PMI may include these matrices and may further indicate a set of columns in the matrices of the first PMI, wherein the base station 105 - a may use the indicated set of columns to determine a precoding matrix using the second PMI.

[0121] The base station 105-a may use the corresponding second PMI, or information included in the corresponding second PMI, to determine a precoding matrix for each transmission mode including multiple TRPs 205 (e.g., including a combination of TRPs 205). In a first example, the base station 105-a may determine the precoding matrix by performing block diagonalization on an indicated set of columns. In a second example, the base station 105-a may determine the precoding matrix by performing block diagonalization on the product of one or more matrices included in the first PMI of the corresponding TRP and the corresponding matrix included in the second PMI. In some cases, the base station 105-a may determine the precoding matrix by performing block diagonalization on the product of indicated columns of one or more matrices included in the first PMI of the corresponding TRP and the corresponding matrix included in the second PMI. Refer to Figure 3B and 4B Techniques for determining a precoding matrix for a multi-TRP transmission mode are further described.

[0122] The base station 105-a may use the precoding matrix determined using the second PMI for communications with the UE 115-a, for example, to enable beamforming communications, reduce interference between TRPs 205 associated with the base station 105-a, or increase data throughput (e.g., via MIMO operations), etc.

[0123] Figure 3A and 3B An example of respective processes 301 and 302 supporting CSI feedback for multiple TRPs according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, processes 301 and 302 can implement aspects of wireless communication systems 100 or 200. For example, processes 301 and 302 can include information (e.g., PMI) determined by UE 115 and transmitted to base station 105 (e.g., via CSI), where UE 115 and base station 105 can be reference Figure 1 and 2 An example of a UE 115 and a base station 105 is described. The base station 105 and the UE 115 can communicate via multiple TRPs (e.g., two or more TRPs) using one or more multi-TRP transmission modes. Processes 301 and 302 may include a method performed by the base station 105 to determine a corresponding precoding matrix 305 for each transmission mode associated with the base station 105 and the UE 115, wherein the precoding matrix 305 may be based on a codebook that does not include frequency compression.

[0124] The base station 105 and the UE 115 may communicate in the downlink and / or uplink via the first TRP and the second TRP. Therefore, assumptions about different transmission modes for multi-TRP communication between the base station 105 and the UE 115 may include a transmission mode for each individual (e.g., single) TRP and a transmission mode for the combination of the first TRP and the second TRP. Although two TRPs are described with reference to the methods herein, it should be understood that the base station 105 and the UE 115 may communicate via two or more TRPs, and any methods or procedures applied to the first TRP and the second TRP may be extended to any number of TRPs (e.g., N TRPs).

[0125] The base station 105 may configure the UE 115 to report a PMI for each of one or more multi-TRP transmission modes. For example, the UE 115 may individually report a PMI (e.g., a first, complete, full PMI) for each of the first and second TRPs (e.g., for an associated single-TRP transmission mode), and may also report a PMI (e.g., a second, partial, incomplete, reduced, alternate PMI) for a combination of the first and second TRPs (e.g., for both TRPs together). Process 301 may be associated with a method for reporting PMI and for determining a precoding matrix 305 for an individual TRP, and process 302 may be associated with a method for reporting PMI and for determining a precoding matrix 305 for a combination of TRPs.

[0126] Referring to process 301, UE 115 may report (e.g., via CSI to base station 105) a first PMI including matrix 310 and matrix 315 for each individual TRP. For example, UE 115 may report matrices 310-a and 315-a for a first TRP, and may report matrices 310-b and 315-b for a second TRP. Matrix 310 (e.g., matrix W1) may represent a spatial base matrix that includes polarization groups of beams that each correspond to a number of columns in matrix 310 (e.g., L beams in a group correspond to L columns). In some cases, the spatial base matrix may be used for compression in the spatial domain. In some cases, matrix 310 may include two polarization groups of beams (e.g., 2L beams) and a corresponding number of columns (e.g., 2L columns). Matrix 310 may include a number of rows (e.g., P rows) corresponding to the number of horizontal antenna elements (e.g., N1 elements), multiplied by the number of vertical antenna elements (e.g., N2 elements), multiplied by the number of polarizations (e.g., two polarizations). Matrix 315 (e.g., matrix W2) may represent information about different transmission layers configured by base station 105 (e.g., the number of configured layers, N2). 层), and in some cases may be referred to as a coefficient matrix for a corresponding TRP or single TRP transmission mode. Each column of matrix 315 may represent a transmission layer (e.g., as for MIMO transmission), and each matrix element may represent a coefficient for the contribution of a beam within the corresponding layer. Thus, matrix 315 may have a number of columns corresponding to the number of layers (e.g., N 层 The dimensions of the 2L-th column are 2L columns and the number of rows corresponds to the number of beams (e.g., 2L rows).

[0127] In some cases, base station 105 may configure UE 115 to report a first PMI for wideband precoding matrix 305. As such, matrices 310 and 315 may both correspond to a wideband of the system bandwidth, and UE 115 may report one matrix 310 and one matrix 315 for each individual TRP. In some cases, base station 105 may configure UE 115 to report a first PMI for one or more subband precoding matrices 305. As such, matrix 310 may correspond to a wideband, and matrix 315 may correspond to a subband of the system bandwidth, and UE 115 may report one matrix 310 and multiple matrices 315 for each individual TRP (e.g., one matrix 315 for each subband configured or indicated by base station 105).

[0128] The base station 105 may use the matrices 310 and 315 (e.g., the first PMI) reported by the UE 115 to determine the corresponding precoding matrix 305 (e.g., precoder) for each individual TRP. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 305-a for the first TRP by multiplying the matrix 310-a and the matrix 315-a, and may determine the precoding matrix 305-b for the second TRP by multiplying the matrix 310-b and the matrix 315-b. In some examples, the precoding matrix 305-a may be determined using equation (1):

[0129]

[0130] Where W (1) represents the precoding matrix 305-a (e.g., the precoding matrix 305 corresponding to the first TRP), W1 (1) represents a matrix 310-a (e.g., corresponding to the broadband of the first TRP), and Represents the matrix 315-a (e.g., corresponding to the broadband of the first TRP). In some examples, the precoding matrix 305-b can be determined using equation (2):

[0131]

[0132] Where W (2) represents the precoding matrix 305-b (e.g., the precoding matrix 305 corresponding to the second TRP), W1(2) represents a matrix 310-b (e.g., corresponding to the broadband of the second TRP), and Representing matrix 315-b (e.g., corresponding to the broadband of the second TRP).

[0133] When the first PMI is associated with one or more subband precoding matrices 305, the base station 105 may determine a precoding matrix 305 for each subband of the TRP. For example, if the first TRP is associated with four subbands, the base station 105 may determine four precoding matrices 305 for the first TRP, one matrix corresponding to each of the four subbands. The subband precoding matrix 305 may be determined by multiplying the wideband matrix 310 and the subband matrix 315 associated with the corresponding subband of the precoding matrix 305. In some examples, the subband precoding matrix 305 for the first TRP may be determined using equation (3):

[0134]

[0135] Where n represents the index of the subband and 1≤n≤N 子带 , N 子带 represents the total number of subbands, W (1,n) represents the precoding matrix 305 corresponding to the nth subband of the first TRP, W1 (1) A matrix 310-a representing (e.g., corresponding to the broadband of the first TRP) Denotes the matrix 315 corresponding to the nth subband of the first TRP. In some examples, the subband precoding matrix 305 for the second TRP may be determined using equation (4):

[0136]

[0137] Where n represents the index of the subband and 1≤n≤N 子带 , N 子带 represents the total number of subbands, W (2,n) represents the precoding matrix 305 corresponding to the nth subband of the second TRP, W1 (1) A matrix 310-b representing (e.g., corresponding to the broadband of the second TRP) Represents the matrix 315 corresponding to the nth subband of the second TRP.

[0138] Matrix 310 or matrix 315 or both may include or correspond to values corresponding to respective sets of one or more codebook indices. For example, matrix 310 or 315 may include values corresponding to respective sets of one or more codebook indices defined by a wireless communication standard, wherein in some cases, the one or more codebook indices may be stored in UE 115, base station 105, or both.

[0139] Referring to process 302, UE 115 may report a second PMI (e.g., a partial, incomplete, reduced, replacement PMI) that may include information of a matrix 320 to be determined for each TRP (e.g., each TRP in a combination of TRPs) for a multi-TRP transmission mode. For example, UE 115 may report information associated with a matrix 320-a corresponding to a first TRP and information associated with a matrix 320-b corresponding to a second TRP.

[0140] In a first example, the second PMI reported by the UE 115 may indicate a set of columns (e.g., a set of precoding codes) for each precoding matrix 305 corresponding to a single TRP for a transmission mode. For example, the UE 115 may indicate a first set of columns for the precoding matrix 305-a and a second set of columns for the precoding matrix 305-b to the base station 105. The UE 115 may determine that the first set of columns and the second set of columns may be combined to form a precoding matrix 305-c corresponding to the transmission mode (e.g., a combination of the first TRP and the second TRP). In some cases, for example, when one or two TRPs are associated with PMIs for multiple subbands, multiple precoding matrices 305 may correspond to a combination of the first TRP and the second TRP. Accordingly, the UE 115 may indicate a set of columns for each precoding matrix in the multiple precoding matrices 305.

[0141] In some cases, UE 115 may determine that the first set of columns, or the second set of columns, or both include a number of columns that are contiguous starting from an initial column in the corresponding matrix 305-a or 305-b. Accordingly, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include a first number (e.g., value) of a first set of contiguous columns of matrix 305-a (e.g., r1 columns), a second number of a second set of contiguous columns of matrix 305-b (e.g., r2 columns), or both. Base station 105 may construct matrix 320-a using the first number of columns (e.g., r1 columns) and matrix 305-a, and may construct matrix 320-b using the second number of columns (e.g., r2 columns) and matrix 305-b.

[0142] The base station 105 may use the constructed matrices 320-a and 320-b to determine a precoding matrix 305-c (e.g., corresponding to the transmission mode for both the first and second TRPs). The base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 305-c by performing block diagonalization (e.g., using a BD operator) on the matrix 320-a and the matrix 320-b. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 305-c using equation (5):

[0143] W (1+2) =BD[W (1) (:,1:r1)W (2)(:,1:r2)], (5)

[0144] Where W (1+2) represents a precoding matrix 305-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W (1) (:, 1:r1) represents the matrix 320-a (formed using the first set of columns of the matrix 305-a, for example), r1 represents the first column number of the matrix 305-a, W (2) (:, 1:r2) represents the matrix 320-b (eg, formed using the second set of columns of the matrix 305-b), and r2 represents the second column number of the matrix 305-b.

[0145] If one or both TRPs are associated with PMIs for multiple subbands, the UE 115 may report a second PMI for each subband. The base station 105 may determine multiple subband precoding matrices 305 associated with a combination of the first TRP and the second TRP. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrices 305 for the multiple subbands using equation (6):

[0146] W (1+2,n) =BD[W (1,n) (:,1:r1)W (2,n) (:,1:r2)], (6)

[0147] Where n represents the index of the subband and 1≤n≤N 子带 , N 子带 represents the total number of subbands, W (1+2,n) represents the precoding matrix 305-c for the n-th subband (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W (1,n) (:, 1:r1) represents the matrix 320-a for the nth subband (e.g., formed using the first set of columns of the matrix 305 corresponding to the nth subband for the first TRP), r1 represents the first column number of the nth matrix 305 for the first TRP, W (2,n) (:, 1:r2) represents the matrix 320-b for the nth subband (e.g., formed using the second set of columns of the matrix 305 corresponding to the nth subband for the second TRP), and r2 represents the second column number of the nth matrix 305 for the second TRP.

[0148] In some cases, UE 115 may determine that the first set of columns, the second set of columns, or both include non-contiguous columns in the corresponding matrix 305-a or 305-b. Accordingly, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include an index indicating the first set of columns of matrix 305-a, an index indicating the second set of columns of matrix 305-b, or both. Base station 105 may construct matrix 320-a using the index indicating the first set of columns and matrix 305-a, and may construct matrix 320-b using the index indicating the second set of columns and matrix 305-b.

[0149] The base station 105 may use the constructed matrices 320-a and 320-b to determine a precoding matrix 305-c (e.g., corresponding to the transmission mode for both the first and second TRPs). The base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 305-c by performing block diagonalization (e.g., using a BD operator) on the matrix 320-a and the matrix 320-b. For example, the base station 105 may use equation (7) to determine the precoding matrix 305-c:

[0150] W (1+2) =BD[W (1) (:,X)W (2) (:.Y)], (7)

[0151] Where W (1+2) represents a precoding matrix 305-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W (1) (:, X) represents the matrix 320-a (formed using the first set of columns of the matrix 305-a, for example), X represents the index of the first set of columns of the matrix 305-a, and W (4) (:, Y) represents the matrix 320-b (eg, formed using the second set of columns of the matrix 305-b), and Y represents the index of the second set of columns of the matrix 305-b.

[0152] If one or both TRPs are associated with PMIs for multiple subbands, the UE 115 may report a second PMI for each subband. The base station 105 may determine multiple subband precoding matrices 305 associated with a combination of the first TRP and the second TRP. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrices 305 for the multiple subbands using equation (8):

[0153] W (1+2n) =BD[W (1,n) (:X)W (2,n) (:,Y)], (8)

[0154] Where n represents the index of the subband and 1≤n≤N 子带 , N 子带represents the total number of subbands, W (1+2,n) represents the precoding matrix 305-c for the n-th subband (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W (1,n) (:, X) represents the matrix 320-a for the nth subband (e.g., formed using the first set of columns of the matrix 305 corresponding to the nth subband for the first TRP), X represents the index of the first set of columns of the nth matrix 305 for the first TRP, and W (2,n) (:, Y) represents the matrix 320-b for the nth subband (e.g., formed using the second set of columns of the matrix 305 corresponding to the nth subband for the second TRP), and Y represents the index of the second set of columns of the nth matrix 305 for the second TRP.

[0155] In some examples, UE 115 may indicate (e.g., via a second PMI) which columns are not in the first set of columns, which columns are not in the second set of columns, or both. For example, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include a first number of columns (e.g., values) that do not correspond to a first contiguous set of columns of matrix 305-a, a second number of columns that do not correspond to a second contiguous set of columns of matrix 305-b, or both. The columns that do not correspond to the first set of columns or the second set of columns may be columns starting from the last column of the corresponding matrix 305-a or 305-b, or may be columns starting from the initial column of the corresponding matrix 305-a or 305-b. In another example, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include an index indicating a column that does not correspond to the first set of columns of matrix 305-a, an index indicating a column that does not correspond to the second set of columns of matrix 305-b, or both. The base station 105 may construct the matrix 320-a using indices or numbers indicating columns not corresponding to the first set of columns and the matrix 305-a, and may construct the matrix 320-b using indices indicating columns not corresponding to the second set of columns and the matrix 305-b.

[0156] In a second example, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include a first matrix and a second matrix that can be used to calculate matrices 320-a and 320-b, respectively, and in some cases may be referred to as replacement coefficient matrices (i.e., replacement W2 matrices) for an associated single TRP. In some cases, UE 115 may report a first matrix (e.g., a first replacement coefficient matrix, i.e., a first replacement W2) for a first TRP, which when multiplied by matrix 310-a results in matrix 320-a, and may report a second matrix (e.g., a second replacement coefficient matrix, i.e., a second replacement W2) for a second TRP, which when multiplied by matrix 310-b results in matrix 320-b.

[0157] The base station 105 may construct matrices 320-a and 320-b, and may use the matrices 320-a and 320-b to determine a precoding matrix 305-c (e.g., corresponding to the transmission mode for both the first and second TRPs). The base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 305-c by performing block diagonalization (e.g., using a BD operator) on the matrices 320-a and 320-b. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 305-c using equation (9):

[0158]

[0159] Where W (1+2) represents a precoding matrix 305-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W1 (1) represents a matrix 310-a (eg, a broadband matrix), represents a first matrix that can be used to determine matrix 320-a (eg, by comparing it with W1 (1) multiplication), represents a matrix 310-b (e.g., a broadband matrix), and represents a second matrix that can be used to determine matrix 320-b (e.g., by comparing multiply).

[0160] If one or both TRPs are associated with PMIs for multiple subbands, the UE 115 may report a second PMI for each subband. The base station 105 may determine multiple subband precoding matrices 305 associated with a combination of the first TRP and the second TRP. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrices 305 for the multiple subbands using equation (10):

[0161]

[0162] Where n represents the index of the subband and 1≤n≤N 子带 , N 子带 represents the total number of subbands, W (1+2,n) represents the precoding matrix 305-c for the n-th subband (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W1 (1) represents a matrix 310-a (eg, a broadband matrix), represents a matrix that can be used to determine the matrix 320-a for the nth subband (eg, by comparing it with W1 (1) multiplication), represents a matrix 310-b (e.g., a broadband matrix), and represents a matrix that can be used to determine the matrix 320-b for the nth subband (e.g., by comparing multiply).

[0163] In some cases, UE 115 may report a first matrix for a first TRP, which when multiplied by some columns of matrix 310-a results in matrix 320-a, and may report a second matrix for a second TRP, which when multiplied by some columns of matrix 410-b results in matrix 320-b. Base station 105 may construct matrices 320-a and 320-b, and may use matrices 320-a and 320-b to determine a precoding matrix 305-c (e.g., corresponding to a transmission mode for both the first and second TRPs). Base station 105 may determine precoding matrix 305-c by performing block diagonalization (e.g., using a BD operator) on matrix 320-a and matrix 320-b. For example, base station 105 may determine precoding matrix 305-c using equation (11):

[0164]

[0165] Where W (1+2) represents a precoding matrix 305-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W1 (1) (:, X) represents a selected column of the matrix 310-a (e.g., a broadband matrix), X represents an index of a column of the matrix 310-a that can be used to determine the matrix 320-a, represents a first matrix that can be used to determine matrix 320-a (eg, by comparing it with W1 (1) (:, X) multiplication), represents a selected column of matrix 310 - b (eg, a broadband matrix), Y represents an index of a column of matrix 310 - b that may be used to determine matrix 320 - b, and represents a second matrix that can be used to determine matrix 320-b (e.g., by comparing multiply).

[0166] If one or both TRPs are associated with PMIs for multiple subbands, the UE 115 may report a second PMI for each subband. The base station 105 may determine multiple subband precoding matrices 305 associated with a combination of the first TRP and the second TRP. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrices 305 for the multiple subbands using equation (12):

[0167]

[0168] Where W (1+2) represents the nth precoding matrix 305-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W1(1) (:, X) represents a selected column of the matrix 310-a (e.g., a broadband matrix), X represents an index of a column of the matrix 310-a that can be used to determine the matrix 320-a, represents a matrix that can be used to determine the matrix 320-a for the nth subband (eg, by comparing it with W1 (1) (:, X) multiplication), represents a selected column of matrix 310 - b (eg, a broadband matrix), Y represents an index of a column of matrix 310 - b that may be used to determine matrix 320 - b, and represents a matrix that can be used to determine the matrix 320-b for the nth subband (e.g., by comparing multiply).

[0169] The matrix 320 may include or correspond to values corresponding to respective sets of one or more codebook indices. For example, the matrix 320 may include values corresponding to one or more sets of one or more codebook indices defined by a wireless communication standard, wherein in some cases, the one or more codebook indices may be stored at the UE 115, the base station 105, or both.

[0170] Figure 4A and 4B Examples of respective processes 401 and 402 supporting CSI feedback for multiple TRPs according to aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated. In some examples, processes 401 and 402 can implement aspects of wireless communication systems 100 or 200. For example, processes 401 and 402 can include information (e.g., PMI) determined by UE 115 and transmitted to base station 105 (e.g., via CSI), where UE 115 and base station 105 can be reference Figure 1 -3 describes an example of a UE 115 and a base station 105. The base station 105 and the UE 115 may communicate via multiple TRPs (e.g., two or more TRPs) using one or more multi-TRP transmission modes. Processes 401 and 402 may include a method performed by the base station 105 to determine a corresponding precoding matrix 405 for each transmission mode in the one or more multi-TRP transmission modes, wherein the precoding matrix 405 may be based on a codebook that does not include frequency compression.

[0171] For example, the base station and UE 115 may communicate in the downlink and / or uplink via a first TRP and a second TRP. Therefore, assumptions about different transmission modes for multi-TRP communication between the base station 105 and the UE 115 may include a transmission mode for each individual (e.g., single) TRP and a transmission mode for a combination of the first TRP and the second TRP. Although two TRPs are described with reference to the methods herein, it should be understood that the base station 105 and the UE 115 may communicate via two or more TRPs, and any methods or procedures applied to the first TRP and the second TRP may be extended to any number of TRPs (e.g., N TRPs).

[0172] The base station 105 may configure the UE 115 to report a PMI for each of one or more multi-TRP transmission modes. Process 401 may be associated with a method for reporting PMI and for determining a precoding matrix 405 for an individual TRP, and process 402 may be associated with a method for reporting PMI and for determining a precoding matrix 405 for a combination of TRPs.

[0173] Referring to process 401, UE 115 may report (e.g., to base station 105 via CSI) a first PMI including matrix 410, matrix 415, and matrix 420 for each individual TRP. For example, UE 115 may report matrices 410-a, 415-a, and 420a for a first TRP, and may report matrices 410-b, 415-b, and 420-b for a second TRP. Matrix 410 (e.g., matrix W1) may represent a spatial base matrix including polarization groups of beams, where each polarization group corresponds to a number of columns in matrix 410 (e.g., L beams in one polarization group correspond to L columns). In some cases, the spatial base matrix may be used for compression in the spatial domain. In some cases, matrix 410 may include two polarization groups of beams (e.g., 2L beams) and a corresponding number of columns (e.g., 2L columns). Matrix 410 may include a number of rows (eg, P rows) corresponding to the number of horizontal antenna elements (eg, N1 elements), times the number of vertical antenna elements (eg, N2 elements), times the number of polarizations (eg, two polarizations).

[0174] Matrix 415 (e.g., matrix ) may represent information about linear combination coefficients for a communication beam set, and in some cases may be referred to as a coefficient matrix for a corresponding TRP or a single TRP transmission mode. Matrix 415 may include all linear combination coefficients for a beam, including amplitude coefficients and phase coefficients. Each element of matrix 415 may represent a tap coefficient for a beam. Matrix 415 may have dimensions corresponding to the number of columns (e.g., M columns) of the frequency domain basis and the number of rows (e.g., 2L rows) corresponding to the number of beams. Matrix 420 (e.g., matrix ) may include basis vectors for performing compression in the frequency domain and may be referred to as a frequency domain compression matrix or a frequency domain basis matrix. For example, each row of matrix 420 may represent a basis vector, where the basis vector is derived from a number of columns of the DFT matrix. Matrix 420 may have dimensions of the number of columns (e.g., N3 columns) and the number of rows (e.g., M rows). Each matrix 410, 415, and 420 may correspond to or cover multiple frequency subbands and correspond to a transmission layer. Therefore, one of each matrix 410, 415, and 420 may be used to determine a precoding matrix 405 for each individual TRP.

[0175] Matrix 410 or matrix 420 or any combination thereof may include or correspond to values corresponding to respective sets of one or more codebook indices. For example, matrix 410 or 420 may include values corresponding to respective sets of one or more codebook indices defined by a wireless communication standard, wherein in some cases, the one or more codebook indices may be stored at UE 115, base station 105, or both.

[0176] The base station 105 may use the matrices 410, 415, and 420 reported by the UE 115 (e.g., using the first PMI) to determine a corresponding precoding matrix 405 (e.g., a precoder) for each individual TRP. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 405-a for the first TRP by multiplying the matrix 410-a, the matrix 415-a, and the matrix 420-a, and may determine the precoding matrix 405-b for the second TRP by multiplying the matrix 410-b, the matrix 415-b, and the matrix 420-b. In some examples, the precoding matrix 405-a may be determined using equation (13):

[0177]

[0178] Where W (1) represents a precoding matrix 405-a (e.g., a precoding matrix corresponding to a first TRP), Denote matrix 410-a, represents matrix 415-a, and Denotes matrix 420-a. In some examples, the precoding matrix 405-b may be determined using equation (14):

[0179]

[0180] Where W (2) represents a precoding matrix 405-b (e.g., a precoding matrix corresponding to a second TRP), Denote matrix 410-b, represents matrix 415-b, and Represents matrix 420-b.

[0181] Referring to process 402, UE 115 may report a second PMI (e.g., a partial, incomplete, reduced, or replaced PMI) that may include information of a matrix 425 to be determined for each TRP (e.g., each TRP in a combination of TRPs) for a multi-TRP transmission mode. For example, UE 115 may report information associated with a matrix 425-a corresponding to a first TRP and information associated with a matrix 425-b corresponding to a second TRP.

[0182] In a first example, the second PMI reported by the UE 115 may indicate a set of columns (e.g., a set of precoding codes) of each precoding matrix 405 associated with a single TRP of the multi-TRP transmission mode. For example, the UE 115 may indicate a first set of columns of the precoding matrix 405-a and a second set of columns of the precoding matrix 405-b to the base station 105. The UE 115 may determine that the first set of columns and the second set of columns may be combined to form a precoding matrix 405-c corresponding to a transmission mode including the first TRP and the second TRP.

[0183] In some cases, UE 115 may determine that the first set of columns, or the second set of columns, or both include a number of contiguous columns starting from an initial column in the corresponding matrix 405-a or 405-b. Accordingly, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include a first number (e.g., value) of a first set of contiguous columns of matrix 405-a (e.g., r1 columns), a second number of a second set of contiguous columns of matrix 405-b (e.g., r2 columns), or both. Base station 105 may construct matrix 425-a using the first number of columns (e.g., r1 columns) and matrix 405-a, and may construct matrix 425-b using the second number of columns (e.g., r2 columns) and matrix 405-b.

[0184] The base station 105 may use the constructed matrices 425-a and 425-b to determine a precoding matrix 405-c (e.g., corresponding to the transmission mode for both the first and second TRPs). The base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 405-c by performing block diagonalization (e.g., using a BD operator) on the matrix 425-a and the matrix 425-b. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 405-c using equation (15):

[0185] W (1+2) =BD[W (1) (:,1:r1)W (2) (:,1:r2)], (15)

[0186] Where W (1+2) represents a precoding matrix 405-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both a first TRP and a second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W (1) (:, 1:r1) represents the matrix 425-a (formed using the first set of columns of the matrix 405-a, for example), r1 represents the first column number of the matrix 405-a, W (2) (:, 1:r2) represents the matrix 425-b (eg, formed using the second set of columns of the matrix 405-b), and r2 represents the second column number of the matrix 405-b.

[0187] In some cases, UE 115 may determine that the first set of columns, or the second set of columns, or both include non-contiguous columns in the corresponding matrix 405-a or 405-b. Accordingly, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include an index indicating the first set of columns of matrix 405-a, an index indicating the second set of columns of matrix 405-b, or both. Base station 105 may construct matrix 420-a using the index indicating the first set of columns and matrix 405-a, and may construct matrix 420-b using the index indicating the second set of columns and matrix 405-b.

[0188] The base station 105 may use the constructed matrices 425-a and 425-b to determine a precoding matrix 405-c (e.g., corresponding to the transmission mode for both the first and second TRPs). The base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 405-c by performing block diagonalization (e.g., using a BD operator) on the matrix 425-a and the matrix 425-b. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 405-c using equation (16):

[0189] W (1+2) =BD[W (1) (:,X)W (2) (:,Y)], (16)

[0190] Where W(1+2) represents a precoding matrix 405-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both a first TRP and a second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W (1) (:, X) represents the matrix 425-a (formed using the first set of columns of the matrix 405-a, for example), X represents the index of the first set of columns of the matrix 405-a, and W (2) (:, Y) represents matrix 425-b (eg, formed using the second set of columns of matrix 405-b), and Y represents the index of the second set of columns of matrix 405-b.

[0191] In some examples, UE 115 may indicate (e.g., via a second PMI) which columns are not in the first set of columns, which columns are not in the second set of columns, or both. For example, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include a first number of columns (e.g., values) that do not correspond to a first contiguous set of columns of matrix 405-a, a second number of columns that do not correspond to a second contiguous set of columns of matrix 405-b, or both. The columns that do not correspond to the first set of columns or the second set of columns may be columns starting from the last column of the corresponding matrix 405-a or 405-b, or may be columns starting from the initial column of the corresponding matrix 405-a or 405-b. In another example, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include an index indicating a column that does not correspond to the first set of columns of matrix 405-a, an index indicating a column that does not correspond to the second set of columns of matrix 405-b, or both. The base station 105 may construct the matrix 425-a using indices or numbers indicating columns not corresponding to the first set of columns and the matrix 405-a, and may construct the matrix 425-b using indices indicating columns not corresponding to the second set of columns and the matrix 405-b.

[0192] In a second example, the second PMI reported by UE 115 may include a matrix of replacement coefficients (i.e., replacement coefficients) that may be used to calculate matrices 425-a and 425-b, respectively, and may be referred to in some cases as a matrix for associating a single TRP. In some cases, UE 115 may report a first matrix (e.g., a first replacement coefficient matrix, i.e., a second replacement coefficient matrix) for a first TRP. ), when the first matrix is multiplied by matrix 410-a and matrix 420-a, matrix 425-a is obtained, and a second matrix for the second TRP (e.g., a second replacement coefficient matrix, i.e., a second replacement coefficient matrix) can be reported. ), when the second matrix is multiplied by matrix 410-a and matrix 420-a, matrix 425-b is obtained.

[0193] The base station 105 may construct matrices 425-a and 425-b, and may use matrices 425-a and 425-b to determine a precoding matrix 405-c (e.g., corresponding to the transmission mode for both the first and second TRPs). The base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 405-c by performing block diagonalization (e.g., using a BD operator) on the matrices 425-a and 425-b. For example, the base station 105 may determine the precoding matrix 405-c using equation (17):

[0194]

[0195] Where W (1+2) represents a precoding matrix 405-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W1 (1) Denote matrix 410-a, represents a first matrix that can be used to determine matrix 425-a (e.g., by comparing it with W1 (1) and multiplication), Denotes matrix 420-a, Denote matrix 410-b, represents a second matrix that can be used to determine matrix 425-b (e.g., by comparing and multiply), and Represents matrix 420-b.

[0196] In some cases, UE 115 may report a first matrix for a first TRP, which is matrix 425-a when the first matrix is multiplied by some columns of matrix 410-a and the Hermitian conjugate of matrix 420-a, and may report a second matrix for a second TRP, which is matrix 425-b when the second matrix is multiplied by some columns of matrix 410-b and the Hermitian conjugate of matrix 420-b. Base station 105 may construct matrices 425-a and 425-b, and may use matrices 425-a and 425-b to determine a precoding matrix 405-c (e.g., corresponding to the transmission mode for both the first and second TRPs). Base station 105 may determine precoding matrix 405-c by performing block diagonalization (e.g., using a BD operator) on matrix 425-a and matrix 425-b. For example, base station 105 may use equation (18) to determine precoding matrix 405-c:

[0197]

[0198] Where W (1+2)represents a precoding matrix 405-c (eg, corresponding to a transmission mode including both the first TRP and the second TRP), BD represents a block diagonalization operation, and W1 (1) (:, W) represents the selected column of matrix 410-a, W represents the index of the column of matrix 410-a that can be used to determine matrix 425-a, represents a first matrix that can be used to determine matrix 425-a (e.g., by comparing it with W1 (1) (:, W) and multiplication), represents the selected column of the Hermitian conjugate of matrix 420-a, X represents the index of the column of matrix 420-a that can be used to determine matrix 425-a, represents a selected column of matrix 410 - b , Y represents an index of a column of matrix 410 - b that can be used to determine matrix 425 - b , represents a second matrix that can be used to determine matrix 425-b (e.g., by comparing and multiplication), represents the selected column of the Hermitian conjugate of matrix 420 - b , and Z represents the index of the column of matrix 420 - b that can be used to determine matrix 425 - b .

[0199] The matrix 425 may include or correspond to values corresponding to respective sets of one or more codebook indices. For example, the matrix 425 may include values corresponding to one or more sets of one or more codebook indices defined by a wireless communication standard, where in some cases, the one or more codebook indices may be stored at the UE 115, the base station 105, or both.

[0200] In some cases, if UE 115 reports PMI for multiple spatial layers, precoding matrices 405-a, 405-b, and 405-c may be determined and reported on a per-layer basis (e.g., one of each precoding matrix 405-a, 405-b, and 405-c may be determined and reported for each spatial layer).

[0201] Figure 5 An example of a process flow 500 for supporting CSI feedback for multiple TRPs in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the process flow 500 can be implemented or implemented by aspects of the wireless communication system 100 or 200. In some examples, the process flow 500 can also be implemented or implemented by aspects of the processes 301, 302, 401, or 402, or any combination thereof. The process flow can be implemented by the UE 115-b and the base station 105-b, which can be referenced Figure 1-4 describes an example of a UE 115 and a base station 105. The base station 105-b and the UE 115-b may communicate via multiple TRPs (e.g., two or more TRPs) using one or more multi-TRP transmission modes. Although two TRPs are described with reference to the methods herein, it should be understood that the base station 105 and the UE 115 may communicate via two or more TRPs, and any methods or procedures applied to the first TRP and the second TRP may be extended to any number of TRPs (e.g., N TRPs).

[0202] UE 115-b may implement aspects of process flow 500 to determine and report the PMI for a multi-TRP transmission mode, as described with reference to Figure 2 Similarly, base station 105-b may implement aspects of process flow 500 to configure UE 115-b to report PMI, receive PMI, and use PMI to determine one or more precoding matrices for one or more scheduling requests, as described with reference to Figure 2 -4 as described.

[0203] In the following description of process flow 500, operations between UE 115-b and base station 105-b may be communicated in an order different from that shown, or operations performed by UE 115-b and base station 105-b may be performed in a different order or at a different time. Certain operations may also be excluded from process flow 500, or other operations may be added to process flow 500. Although UE 115-b and base station 105-b are shown performing the operations of process flow 500, some aspects of some operations may also be performed by one or more other wireless devices.

[0204] At 505, the base station 105-b may transmit a configuration for PMI reporting to the UE 115-b. For example, the base station 105-b may configure the UE 115-b to report PMI for multiple TRPs used for communication between the base station 105-b and the UE 115-b. The PMI configuration may be or include a request for a PMI associated with multiple transmission modes for the multiple TRPs for the base station 105-b.

[0205] At 510, UE 115-b may determine a first PMI, where the first PMI may include a respective PMI report (e.g., a complete, full PMI report) for each transmission mode in a first subset of the plurality of transmission modes. The first subset of transmission modes may include transmission modes that each correspond to a single TRP in the plurality of TRPs. Determining the first PMI may include performing a reference to Figure 3AOr one or more methods described in 4A. For example, in the first method, determining the first PMI may include determining a corresponding spatial basis matrix for each transmission mode in the first subset. Determining the first PMI may also include determining a corresponding coefficient matrix for each transmission mode in the first subset, wherein each element of the corresponding coefficient matrix includes a coefficient for a corresponding beam in a corresponding transmission layer.

[0206] In the second method, determining the first PMI may include determining a corresponding spatial base matrix for each or any other number of transmission modes in the first subset. Determining the first PMI according to the second method may also include determining a corresponding coefficient matrix for each transmission mode in the first subset, wherein the elements of the coefficient matrix include linear combination coefficients for the beam set. Determining the first PMI according to the second method may also include determining a corresponding frequency domain base matrix for each transmission mode in the first subset.

[0207] At 515, UE 115-b may determine a second PMI, where the second PMI may include a respective partial PMI report (e.g., an incomplete, reduced, or replaced PMI report) for each or any other number of transmission modes in a second subset of the plurality of transmission modes. The second subset of transmission modes may include transmission modes that each correspond to at least two (e.g., a plurality) of the plurality of TRPs. Determining the second PMI may include performing a reference to Figure 3B or one or more methods described in 4B. For example, determining the second PMI according to the first method may include determining, for the transmission mode in the second subset, a first set of columns and a second set of columns (e.g., the number of columns or the index of the columns) in the corresponding first precoding matrix and the second precoding matrix. The first precoding matrix and the second precoding matrix may correspond to the first transmission mode and the second transmission mode in the first subset, respectively.

[0208] In a second method for determining a second PMI, determining the second PMI may include determining, for a transmission mode in the second subset, a first replacement coefficient matrix and a second replacement coefficient matrix corresponding to the corresponding first and second transmission modes in the first subset. In some cases, determining the second PMI may further include determining, for the transmission mode of the second subset, a first and second set of columns corresponding to the first and second transmission modes in a corresponding spatial base matrix. In some cases, determining the second PMI may further include determining, for the transmission mode of the second subset, a third and fourth set of columns corresponding to the first and second transmission modes in a corresponding frequency base matrix. Determining the second PMI may support determining the first and second precoding matrices based on the product of the spatial base matrix and the corresponding replacement coefficient matrix, or based on the product of the spatial base matrix, the corresponding replacement coefficient matrix and the frequency base matrix.

[0209] At 520, the UE 115-b may transmit a first PMI to the base station 105-b, the first PMI including a respective PMI report for each transmission mode in a first subset of the plurality of transmission modes.

[0210] At 525, UE 115-b may transmit a second PMI to base station 105-b, the second PMI including a respective partial PMI report for each transmission mode in a second subset of the plurality of transmission modes. In some cases, the first PMI and the second PMI may be transmitted within a single message (e.g., a CSI feedback message or report), i.e., although 520 and 525 are illustrated separately for clarity, in some cases they may be included in a single transmission or message. In some cases, the first PMI may be transmitted via a first message, and the second PMI may be transmitted via a second message (e.g., via a different CSI feedback message).

[0211] At 530, the base station 105-b may determine a precoding matrix for a transmission mode in the second subset based on the first PMI (e.g., a PMI report for the first and second transmission modes in the first subset) and the second PMI (e.g., a PMI report for the transmission mode in the second subset). In some cases, the base station 105-b may determine the precoding matrix using a block diagonalization of the first and second sets of columns within the corresponding first precoding matrix and the second precoding matrix. In some cases, the base station 105-b may determine the precoding matrix using a block diagonalization of the following: the product of the corresponding spatial base matrix (e.g., or its columns) and the first replacement matrix, and the product of the corresponding spatial base matrix (e.g., or its columns) and the second replacement matrix. In some cases, the base station 105-b may determine the precoding matrix using block diagonalization of the following: the product of the corresponding spatial basis matrix (e.g., or its columns), the first replacement matrix and the corresponding frequency domain basis matrix (e.g., or its columns), and the product of the corresponding spatial basis matrix (e.g., or its columns), the second replacement matrix and the corresponding frequency domain basis matrix (e.g., or its columns).

[0212] At 535, the base station 105-b and the UE 115-b may communicate based on the precoding matrix for the transmission mode in the second subset.

[0213] Figure 6 A block diagram 600 of a device 605 supporting CSI feedback for multiple TRPs according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The device 605 may be an example of aspects of a UE 115 as described herein. The device 605 may include a receiver 610, a communication manager 615, and a transmitter 620. The device 605 may also include a processor. Each of these components may be in communication with each other (e.g., via one or more buses).

[0214] The receiver 610 may receive information such as packets, user data, or control information associated with various information channels (e.g., control channels, data channels, and information related to CSI feedback for multiple TRPs, etc.). The information may be passed to other components of the device 605. The receiver 610 may be a reference Fig. 9 Examples of aspects of the described transceiver 920. The receiver 610 may utilize a single antenna or a collection of antennas.

[0215] The communication manager 615 may receive at the UE a request for precoding matrix information related to a transmission mode set associated with a TRP set for a base station; transmit from the UE to the base station a respective precoding matrix information report for each transmission mode in a first subset of the transmission mode set; and transmit from the UE to the base station a respective partial precoding matrix information report for each transmission mode in a second subset of the transmission mode set. The communication manager 615 may be an example of aspects of the communication manager 910 described herein.

[0216] The communication manager 615 or its subcomponents may be implemented in hardware, in code (e.g., software or firmware) executed by a processor, or any combination thereof. If implemented in code executed by a processor, the functions of the communication manager 615 or its subcomponents may be performed by a general purpose processor, a digital signal processor (DSP), an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device designed to perform the functions described in the present disclosure, discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof.

[0217] The communication manager 615 or its subcomponents may be physically located at various locations, including being distributed such that portions of functionality are implemented by one or more physical components at different physical locations. In some examples, according to various aspects of the present disclosure, the communication manager 615 or its subcomponents may be separate and distinct components. In some examples, according to various aspects of the present disclosure, the communication manager 615 or its subcomponents may be combined with one or more other hardware components, including but not limited to input / output (I / O) components, a transceiver, a network server, another computing device, one or more other components described in the present disclosure, or a combination thereof.

[0218] The transmitter 620 can transmit signals generated by other components of the device 605. In some examples, the transmitter 620 can be co-located with the receiver 610 in a transceiver module. For example, the transmitter 620 can be a reference Fig. 9 Examples of aspects of the described transceiver 920. The transmitter 620 may utilize a single antenna or a collection of antennas.

[0219] Actions performed by the communication manager 615, etc., as described herein, may be implemented to achieve one or more potential advantages. For example, the communication manager 615 may reduce communication overhead, reduce communication latency, and increase available energy at a wireless device (e.g., UE 115) by implementing a partial PMI reporting scheme. Compared to other systems and techniques that, for example, transmit a full PMI for a multi-TRP transmission mode (which may increase overhead and energy consumption), partial PMI reporting may reduce overhead, reduce resources used for PMI reporting or processing, or reduce energy consumption (or any combination thereof). Accordingly, the communication manager 615 may save energy and increase battery life at a wireless device (e.g., UE 115) by strategically reducing the amount of PMI reported or received by the wireless device (e.g., UE 115).

[0220] Figure 7 A block diagram 700 of a device 705 supporting CSI feedback for multiple TRPs according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. The device 705 may be an example of aspects of the device 605 or UE 115 as described herein. The device 705 may include a receiver 710, a communication manager 715, and a transmitter 730. The device 705 may also include a processor. Each of these components may be in communication with each other (e.g., via one or more buses).

[0221] The receiver 710 may receive information such as packets, user data, or control information associated with various information channels (e.g., control channels, data channels, and information related to CSI feedback for multiple TRPs, etc.). The information may be passed to other components of the device 705. The receiver 710 may be a reference Fig. 9 Examples of aspects of the described transceiver 920. The receiver 710 may utilize a single antenna or a collection of antennas.

[0222] Communications manager 715 may be an example of aspects of communications manager 615 as described herein. [0225] The transmitter 730 may transmit signals generated by other components of the device 705. In some examples, the transmitter 730 may be co-located with the receiver 710 in a transceiver module. For example, the transmitter 730 may be a reference Fig. 9 Examples of aspects of the described transceiver 920. The transmitter 730 may utilize a single antenna or a collection of antennas.

[0226] A processor of the wireless device (eg, controlling the Fig. 9 The receiver 710, transmitter 730, or transceiver 920 described herein can improve communication reliability and accuracy by reducing communication overhead and latency and increasing available energy. Compared to other systems and techniques, such as transmitting a full PMI for a multi-TRP transmission mode (which can increase processing or signaling overhead and energy consumption), the reduced overhead can reduce resource usage and energy consumption (e.g., by referring to Figure 8 Implementation of the system components described herein). Further, the processor of the UE 115 may identify one or more aspects of the PMI reporting scheme to perform the processes described herein. The processor of the wireless device may use the PMI reporting scheme to perform one or more operations that may result in lower overhead usage and energy consumption, as well as save energy and increase battery life at the wireless device (e.g., by determining and transmitting a partial PMI), etc.
