Technical Field
[0003] The following relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly to discontinuous reception mechanisms for sidelink communications. Background Art
[0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messages, broadcasts, etc. These systems can support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems, such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, advanced LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems, and fifth generation (5G) systems, which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems. These systems may employ techniques such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform spread spectrum orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations or one or more network access nodes, each base station or node simultaneously supporting communication with multiple communication devices, which may also be referred to as user equipment (UE).
[0005] A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations or one or more network access nodes, each base station or node simultaneously supporting communication for multiple communication devices, which may also be referred to as user equipment (UE). Some wireless communication systems, such as 4G and 5G systems, may support sidelink communications between multiple communication devices. Examples of sidelink communications may include, but are not limited to, device-to-device (D2D) communications, vehicle-based communications, which may also be referred to as vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication systems, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication systems, cellular V2X (C-V2X) communication systems, and the like. As the demand for communication efficiency increases, some wireless communication systems, such as 4G and 5G systems, may wish to provide improvements to sidelink communications to support, for example, higher reliability and low latency sidelink operations. [0059] A wireless communication system may include multiple communication devices, such as UEs and base stations, which may provide wireless communication services to the UEs. For example, such a base station may be a next-generation NodeB or a Gigabit NodeB (either of which may be referred to as a gNB), which may support multiple radio access technologies, including 4G systems, such as LTE systems, and 5G systems, which may be referred to as NR systems. Some wireless communication systems may also support sidelink communications between multiple UEs. Examples of sidelink communications may include, but are not limited to, D2D communications, vehicle-based communications, which may also be referred to as vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication systems, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication systems, cellular V2X (C-V2X) communication systems, and the like. As demands for communication efficiency, reliability, and latency increase, wireless communication systems may wish to provide improvements to sidelink communications to support, among other things, higher reliability and low latency sidelink operations.
[0060] A UE may establish a sidelink connection with one or more other UEs in a wireless communication system, such as a V2X communication system. In some examples, the UE may support unicast communication, broadcast communication, or multicast communication, or a combination thereof. In order to provide improvements to sidelink communication (e.g., energy efficiency, power saving, etc.), the UE may be configured to support both DTX operation or DRX operation. For example, the UE may be configured with (e.g., receive or determine) a DTX configuration, or may be configured with (e.g., receive or determine) a DRX configuration or both. In some examples of unicast communication, a UE (e.g., a receiving UE) may receive a DTX configuration from another UE (e.g., a sending UE) via a connection (e.g., a sidelink connection), and the DTX configuration may identify a pattern of a DTX cycle associated with the UE (e.g., a receiving UE) (e.g., specific to the UE). The DTX cycle may include an active DTX duration, an inactive DTX duration, etc. As described herein. In some examples of broadcast communication and multicast communication, a UE (e.g., a sending UE) may broadcast or send a DTX configuration to all UEs or UE groups via multiple connections (e.g., multiple sidelink connections). Therefore, the DTX configuration may be common to all UEs or UE groups. That is, the DTX configuration may be the same for all UEs or UE groups, while in some examples, each UE may have different unicast services on the corresponding sidelink connection.
[0061] As part of DRX operation, the UE may determine a DRX configuration based on one or more received DTX configurations. The DRX configuration may indicate one or more DRX cycles, which may include an active DRX duration, an inactive DRX duration, etc., as described herein. Similarly, in some examples of unicast communications, the UE may send a DRX configuration to another UE via a connection (e.g., a sidelink connection), and the DRX configuration may identify a pattern of a DRX cycle associated with the UE (e.g., specific to the UE). In some examples of broadcast communications and multicast communications, the UE may send or broadcast a DRX configuration to all UEs or UE groups via multiple connections (e.g., multiple sidelink connections). Thus, the DRX configuration may be common to all UEs or UE groups. Therefore, for sidelink communications, as a result of providing a DTX configuration or a DRX configuration or both, the UE may save power.
[0062] Certain aspects of the subject matter described in the present disclosure may be implemented to achieve one or more of the following potential improvements. The techniques employed by the UE may provide benefits and enhancements to the operation of the UE. For example, operations performed by the UE may provide improvements to sidelink operations. In some examples, configuring the UE to support a DTX configuration or a DRX configuration or both for sidelink communications may support improvements to latency (e.g., reduced latency), power consumption, spectral efficiency, and in some examples, may facilitate improved efficiency of sidelink operations, among other benefits.
[0063] Aspects of the present disclosure are initially described in the context of a wireless communication system. Aspects of the present disclosure are then illustrated and described with reference to transmission timelines associated with DTX and DRX configurations for sidelink communications. Aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow charts relating to DTX and DRX configurations for sidelink communications.
[0064] Various aspects of the present disclosure are initially described in the context of a wireless communication system. Various aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described with reference to a transmission timeline. Various aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow charts relating to a discontinuous reception mechanism for sidelink communications.
[0065] Figure 1 An example of a wireless communication system 100 supporting a discontinuous reception mechanism for sidelink communication according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more base stations 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, an advanced LTE (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, or a new radio (NR) network. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support enhanced broadband communications, ultra-reliable (e.g., mission-critical) communications, low-latency communications, communications with low-cost and low-complexity devices, or any combination thereof.
[0066] The base stations 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communication system 100, and may be devices in different forms or with different capabilities. The base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may communicate wirelessly via one or more communication links 125. Each base station 105 may provide a coverage area 110 over which the UEs 115 and the base stations 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which the base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may support communication of signals according to one or more radio access technologies.
[0067] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary, mobile, or both at different times. The UEs 115 may be devices in different forms or with different capabilities. Figure 1 Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. The UEs 115 described herein can communicate with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, base stations 105, or network devices (e.g., core network nodes, relay devices, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes, or other network devices), such as Figure 1 shown.
[0068] The base stations 105 may communicate with the core network 130 or with each other or both. For example, the base stations 105 may interface with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul links 120 (e.g., via s1, N2, N3, or other interfaces). The base stations 105 may communicate with each other via the backhaul links 120 (e.g., via X2, Xn, or other interfaces) directly (e.g., directly between the base stations 105) or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130), or both. In some examples, the backhaul links 120 may be or include one or more wireless links.
[0069] The one or more base stations 105 described herein may include or may be referred to by a person of ordinary skill in the art as a base transceiver station, a radio base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB), a next generation NodeB or a giga NodeB (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a Home NodeB, a Home eNodeB, or other suitable terminology.
[0070] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology, where a "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, etc. UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as appliances or vehicles, meters, etc.
[0071] The UE 115 described herein is capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115 that may sometimes act as relays, as well as base stations 105 and network devices including macro eNBs or GNBs, small cell eNBs or GNBs, or relay base stations, such as Figure 1 shown.
[0072] The UE 115 and the base station 105 may communicate with each other wirelessly via one or more communication links 125 through one or more carriers. The term "carrier" may refer to a set of radio frequency spectrum resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting the communication link 125. For example, a carrier for the communication link 125 may include a portion (e.g., bandwidth portion (BWP)) of a radio spectrum band operating according to one or more physical layer channels of a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating carrier operations, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 may use carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation to support communication with the UE 115. Depending on the carrier aggregation configuration, the UE 115 may be configured with multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers. Carrier aggregation may be used with frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers.
[0073] The signal waveform transmitted on the carrier may be composed of multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system employing MCM techniques, a resource element may be composed of a symbol period (e.g., the duration of a modulation symbol) and a subcarrier, where the symbol period and the subcarrier spacing are inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both). Therefore, the more resource elements received by UE 115 and the higher the order of the modulation scheme, the higher the data rate of UE 115. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of radio frequency spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial layers may further improve the data rate or data integrity of communications with UE 115.
[0074] The time interval of the base station 105 or the UE 115 may be expressed as a multiple of a basic time unit, which may be, for example, T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds sampling period, where Δf max It can represent the maximum supported subcarrier spacing, and N fThe maximum supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size may be indicated. The time intervals of the communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each radio frame having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).
[0075] Each frame may include multiple consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, the frame may be divided (e.g., in the time domain) into subframes, and each subframe may be further divided into multiple time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include multiple symbol periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix pre-added to each symbol period). In some wireless communication systems 100, the time slot may be further divided into multiple micro-time slots containing one or more symbols. In addition to the cyclic prefix, each symbol period may contain one or more (e.g., N f The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating frequency band.
[0076] A subframe, a time slot, a mini-time slot, or a symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in a burst of a shortened TTI (sTTI)).
[0077] Physical channels may be multiplexed on a carrier according to various techniques. For example, physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed on a downlink carrier using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) of a physical control channel may be defined by a plurality of symbol periods and may be extended across a system bandwidth or a subset of a system bandwidth of a carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of UEs 115. For example, one or more UEs 115 may monitor or search for control information in a control region according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. The aggregation level of a control channel candidate may refer to the number of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information of a control information format having a given payload size. A search space set may include a common search space set configured for delivering control information to a plurality of UEs 115, and a UE-specific search space set for sending control information to a specific UE 115.
[0078] In some examples, the base stations 105 may be mobile and, therefore, provide communication coverage for mobile geographic coverage areas 110. In some examples, different geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same base station 105. In other examples, overlapping geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different base stations 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of base stations 105 provide coverage for various geographic coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.
[0079] The wireless communication system 100 can be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low-latency communication, or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 can be configured to support ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) or mission-critical communication. UE115 can be designed to support ultra-reliable, low-latency or critical functions (e.g., mission-critical functions). Ultra-reliable communication can include private communication or group communication, and can be supported by one or more mission-critical services, such as mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT), mission-critical video (MCVideo), or mission-critical data (MCData). Support for mission-critical functions can include service priorities, and mission-critical services can be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low-latency, mission-critical, and ultra-reliable low-latency can be used interchangeably herein.
[0080] In some examples, UE 115 is also able to communicate directly with other UE 115 via a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., using a peer-to-peer (P2P) or D2D protocol). One or more UEs 115 utilizing D2D communication may be within a geographic coverage area 110 of a base station 105. Other UEs 115 in such a group may be outside the geographic coverage area 110 of the base station 105 or may not be able to receive transmissions from the base station 105. In some examples, a group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may utilize a one-to-many (1:M) system, in which each UE 115 transmits to each other UE 115 in the group. In some examples, the base station 105 facilitates resource scheduling for D2D communication. In other cases, D2D communication is performed between UEs 115 without involving the base station 105.
[0081] In some systems, the D2D communication link 135 can be an example of a communication channel between vehicles (e.g., UE 115), such as a sidelink communication channel. In some examples, vehicles can communicate using vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, or some combination of these communications. Vehicles can signal information related to traffic conditions, signal scheduling, weather, safety, emergency situations, or any other information related to the V2X system. In some examples, vehicles in a V2X system can communicate with roadside infrastructure such as roadside units or with a network, or both, using vehicle-to-network (V2N) communications via one or more network nodes (e.g., base station 105).
[0082] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access approval, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connection, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), which may include at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets or interconnections to an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions of UE 115 served by a base station 105 associated with the core network 130, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management. User IP packets may be transmitted through a user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to a network operator IP service 150. The operator IP service 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), or a packet-switched streaming service.
[0083] Some network devices, such as base stations 105, may include subcomponents, such as access network entities 140, which may be examples of access node controllers (ANCs). Each access network entity 140 may communicate with UE 115 through one or more other access network transport entities 145, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmit / receive points (Trp). Each access network transport entity 145 may include one or more antenna panels. In some configurations, the various functions of each access network entity 140 or base station 105 may be distributed across various network devices (e.g., radio heads and ANCs), or merged into a single network device (e.g., base station 105).
[0084] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands, typically in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). Typically, the region from 300 MHz to 300 GHz is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelengths range from approximately 1 decimeter to 1 meter long. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features, but these waves can penetrate structures sufficient for a macro cell to provide service to a UE 115 located indoors. Transmission of UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and a shorter range (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than transmission of smaller frequencies and longer waves using the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.
[0085] The wireless communication system 100 can utilize licensed and unlicensed radio frequency spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 can adopt license assisted access (LAA), LTE-unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology in an unlicensed band such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. When operating in an unlicensed radio spectrum band, devices such as base stations 105 and UEs 115 can use carrier sensing for conflict detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations in unlicensed bands can be based on carrier aggregation configurations and component carriers operating in licensed bands (e.g., LAA). Operations in unlicensed spectrum can include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, etc.
[0086] The base station 105 or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas that may be used to employ techniques such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the base station 105 or UE 115 may be located within one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels that may support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly, such as an antenna tower. In some examples, the antennas or antenna arrays associated with the base station 105 may be located at different geographic locations. The base station 105 may have an antenna array having multiple rows and columns of antenna ports that the base station 105 may use to support beamforming for communicating with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may have one or more antenna arrays that may support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support radio frequency beamforming of signals sent via the antenna ports.
[0087] Beamforming, which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception, is a signal processing technique that can be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a base station 105, a UE 115) to shape or steer an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming can be achieved by combining signals communicated via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating in a particular direction relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals communicated via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each antenna element may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular direction (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device, or relative to some other direction).
[0088] The base station 105 or the UE 115 may use beam scanning techniques as part of a beamforming operation. For example, the base station 105 may use multiple antennas or antenna arrays (e.g., antenna panels) to perform beamforming operations for directional communication with the UE 115. Some signals (e.g., synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) may be sent multiple times by the base station 105 in different directions. For example, the base station 105 may send signals based on different sets of beamforming weights associated with different transmission directions. Transmissions in different beam directions may be used to identify (e.g., by a transmitting device such as the base station 105, or by a receiving device such as the UE 115) a beam direction for later transmission or reception by the base station 105.
[0089] Some signals, such as data signals associated with a particular receiving device, may be transmitted by base station 105 in a single beam direction (e.g., a direction associated with a receiving device, such as UE 115). In some examples, a beam direction associated with transmissions along a single beam direction may be determined based on signals transmitted in one or more beam directions. For example, UE 115 may receive one or more signals transmitted by base station 105 in different directions and may report to base station 105 an indication of the signal received by UE 115 with the highest signal quality or other acceptable signal quality.
[0090] In some examples, transmissions by a device (e.g., a base station 105 or a UE 115) may be performed using multiple beam directions, and the device may generate a combined beam for transmission (e.g., from the base station 105 to the UE 115) using a combination of digital precoding or radio frequency beamforming. The UE 115 may report feedback indicating precoding weights for one or more beam directions, and the feedback may correspond to a configured number of beams across the system bandwidth or one or more subbands. The base station 105 may send a reference signal (e.g., a cell-specific reference signal (CRS), a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS)), which may be precoded or uncoded. The UE 115 may provide feedback for beam selection, which may be a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) or codebook-based feedback (e.g., a multi-panel codebook, a linear combination codebook, a port selection codebook). Although these techniques are described with reference to signals sent by base station 105 in one or more directions, UE 115 may employ similar techniques to send signals multiple times in different directions (e.g., to identify a beam direction for subsequent transmission or reception by UE 115) or to send signals in a single direction (e.g., to send data to a receiving device).
[0091] When receiving various signals such as synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals from the base station 105, a receiving device (e.g., UE 115) can try multiple reception configurations (e.g., directional listening). For example, the receiving device can try multiple reception directions by receiving via different antenna subarrays, by processing the received signals according to different antenna subarrays, by receiving according to different reception beamforming weight sets (e.g., different directional listening weight sets) applied to the signals received at multiple antenna elements of the antenna array, or by processing the received signals according to different reception beamforming weight sets applied to the signals received at multiple antenna elements of the antenna array, any of which can be referred to as "listening" according to different reception configurations or reception directions. In some examples, the receiving device can use a single reception configuration to receive along a single beam direction (e.g., when receiving a data signal). According to different reception configuration directions (e.g., the beam direction determined to have the highest signal strength, the highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), or other acceptable signal quality based on listening according to multiple beam directions), the single reception configuration can be aligned in the beam direction determined based on listening.
[0092] In the illustrated example, the first UE 115 may receive a DTX configuration 210 for a side link connection between the first UE and the second UE from the second UE 115. In some examples, the first UE 115 may determine a set of receive beams used by the first UE 115 for discontinuous reception of the side link connection 205 based at least in part on the received DTX configuration 210. In some examples, the first UE 115 may send a DRX configuration 215 to the second UE 115, the DRX configuration 215 indicating the determined set of receive beams for discontinuous reception of the side link connection 205. In some examples, the first UE 115 may send an indication of at least one beam in the set of receive beams in the DRX configuration. In some examples, the first UE 115 may send an indication of time resources or frequency resources or both corresponding to one or more receive beams in the set of receive beams in the DRX configuration. In some examples, for a recurring set of discontinuous reception, the first UE 115 may send an indication of a time resource during which the first UE 115 will receive using each corresponding receive beam in the set of receive beams. In some examples, the first UE 115 may attempt to receive a transmission from the second UE 115 on the determined set of receive beams and on a corresponding set of opportunities during the recurring period of discontinuous reception. In some examples, the first UE 115 may receive a transmission from the second UE 115 on a receive beam in the set of receive beams during one of the sets of opportunities corresponding to the receive beam.
[0093] Figure 2 An example of a wireless communication system 200 that supports a discontinuous reception mechanism for sidelink communication according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the wireless communication system 200 can support multiple radio access technologies, including a 4G system such as an LTE system, an LTE-A system, or an LTE-APro system, and a 5G system that can be referred to as an NR system. The wireless communication system 200 can also support sidelink communication between multiple UEs 115, such as sidelink communication between UE 115-a and UE 115-b, which can be referenced. Figure 1 Examples of corresponding devices described. Examples of sidelink communications may include D2D communications, V2X communication systems, V2V communication systems, etc. The wireless communication system 200 may also support improvements in power consumption, and in some examples, may facilitate high reliability and low latency sidelink communications, among other benefits.
[0094] UE 115-a and UE 115-b may be configured with multiple antennas that may be used to employ techniques such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output communications, or beamforming, or any combination thereof. The antennas of UE 115-a and UE 115-b may be located within one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels that may support multiple-input multiple-output operations or transmit or receive beamforming. UE 115-a may have an antenna array having multiple rows and columns of antenna ports that UE 115-a may use to support beamforming for communications (e.g., sidelink communications) with UE 115-b or multiple other UEs. Similarly, UE 115-b may have one or more antenna arrays that may support various multiple-input multiple-output or beamforming operations for communications (e.g., sidelink communications) with UE 115-a or multiple other UEs. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support radio frequency beamforming of signals sent via one or more antenna ports. Thus, UE 115-a and UE 115-b may be configured to support directional sidelink communications using multiple antennas.
[0095] UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both in the wireless communication system 200 may support operations to reduce delays, such as reducing delays associated with indicating a new data session for UE 115-b from UE 115-a during a DRX ON period. In some examples, UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both in the wireless communication system 200 may support operations to preserve resources (e.g., time resources and frequency resources of the wireless communication system 200), battery life of UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both, etc. In some examples, UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both may be configured to support operations to manage or improve sidelink communications of a sidelink connection 205 between UE 115-a and UE 115-b. For example, UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both may be configured to support DTX operations or DRX operations, or both, for sidelink communications of the sidelink connection 205.
[0096] The sidelink connection 205 can be an example of a communication channel, such as a sidelink communication channel between vehicles (e.g., UE 115). The sidelink communication channel can correspond to a PC5 interface between UE 115-a and UE 115-b. The PC5 interface can facilitate direct communication between at least two UEs without involving network infrastructure (e.g., a base station, etc. (e.g., an eNB, a next-generation NodeB, or a gigabit NodeB (any of which can be referred to as a gNB))). The PC5 interface can also be a one-to-many communication interface (i.e., can be designated for group communication).
[0097] In some examples, UE 115-a and UE 115-b may perform a connection procedure (e.g., a sidelink connection procedure) to establish sidelink connection 205. For example, UE 115-a and UE 115-b may perform a sidelink connection establishment procedure to establish sidelink connection 205. As part of the sidelink connection procedure, UE 115-a may determine a DTX configuration 210 for sidelink connection 205, and DTX configuration 210 may be used for (e.g., dedicated to, specific to) sidelink connection 205. In some other examples, UE 115-a may determine DTX configuration 210 prior to the sidelink connection procedure. DTX configuration 210 may indicate a pattern of one or more DTX cycles, which may include a timing offset (e.g., a slot offset, a frame offset), a periodicity of one or more DTX cycles, an active DTX duration, an inactive DTX duration, or any combination thereof.
[0098] In some examples, UE 115-a may determine one or more of a timing offset (e.g., a slot offset, a frame offset), a periodicity of one or more DTX cycles, an active DTX duration, an inactive DTX duration, or any combination thereof based in part on expected data traffic (e.g., traffic load) on the sidelink connection 205. For example, UE 115-a may determine one or more of a timing offset (e.g., a slot offset, a frame offset), a periodicity of one or more DTX cycles, an active DTX duration, an inactive DTX duration, or any combination thereof based in part on a DRB configuration including a mapping and a quasi-co-location indicator (PQI). As part of the sidelink connection process, UE 115-a may provide DTX configuration 210 to UE 115-b. In some examples, the sidelink connection establishment process may be an RRC sidelink connection establishment process, and UE 115-a may provide DTX configuration 210 in an RRC configuration message.
[0099] As part of the sidelink connection process, UE 115-b may receive a DTX configuration 210 from UE 115-a. In some examples, UE 115-b may determine a DRX configuration 215 for sidelink connection 205 based in part on the DTX configuration 210. DRX configuration 215 may be specific to sidelink connection 205. In some examples, DRX configuration 215 may indicate a pattern of one or more DRX cycles, which may include a timing offset (e.g., a slot offset, a frame offset), a periodicity of one or more DRX cycles, an active DRX duration, an inactive DRX duration, or any combination thereof. In this way, UE 115-b (e.g., a receiving UE) may derive one or more DRX cycles based on the DTX configuration 210 from UE 115-a (e.g., a transmitting UE). As part of the sidelink connection process, UE 115-b may provide DRX configuration 215 to UE 115-a. In some examples, the sidelink connection establishment procedure can be an RRC sidelink connection establishment procedure, and UE 115-b can provide the DRX configuration 215 in an RRC configuration message.
[0100] In the illustrated example, DTX configuration 210 and DRX configuration 215 may be separate. Additionally or alternatively, DTX configuration 210 and DRX configuration 215 may be specific to a given sidelink connection, such as sidelink connection 205 (e.g., a sidelink connection between a particular set of UEs, such as UEs 115-a and 115-b). In some examples, a UE participating in multiple sidelink connections with multiple UEs (also referred to as peer UEs) may have separate DTX and DRX configurations (e.g., separate DTX configurations and separate DRX configurations) specific to each of the multiple sidelink connections of the UE with each of the multiple UEs.
[0101] In some examples, communication over the side link connection 205 may occur within a frequency range (e.g., frequency range 2, a millimeter wave band between 24.25 and 52.6 GHz, etc.). In the illustrated example, UE 115-b may receive a DTX configuration 210 for a side link connection between a first UE and a second UE from UE 115-a. In some examples, UE 115-a may determine a set of receive beams for discontinuous reception of the side link connection 205 by UE 115-a based at least in part on the received DTX configuration 210. In some examples, UE 115-a may send a DRX configuration 215 to UE 115-b, which indicates the determined set of receive beams for discontinuous reception of the side link connection 205. In some examples, UE 115-a may send an indication of at least one beam in the set of receive beams in the DRX configuration. In some examples, UE 115-a may send an indication of time resources or frequency resources or both corresponding to one or more receive beams in a receive beam set in a DRX configuration. In some examples, for a cycle set of discontinuous reception, UE 115-a may send an indication of time resources during which UE 115-a will use each corresponding receive beam in the receive beam set for reception. In some examples, UE 115-a may attempt to receive a transmission from UE 115-b on a determined receive beam set and on a corresponding set of opportunities during the cycle of discontinuous reception. In some examples, UE 115-a may receive a transmission from UE 115-b on one of the receive beams in the receive beam set and during one of the opportunities in the opportunity set corresponding to the receive beam.
[0102] By supporting one or more of DTX configuration 210 or DRX configuration 215, or both, for sidelink communications associated with sidelink connection 205, UE 115-a and UE 115-b may experience power savings and other benefits. Figure 2In the example of , the side link connection process can be a unicast RRC side link connection establishment process. In this way, the exchange of DTX configuration 210 and DRX configuration 215 can be performed via unicast communication.
[0103] Figure 3 An example of a transmission timeline 300 supporting a discontinuous reception mechanism for sidelink communications according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the transmission timeline 300 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the transmission timeline 300 can be based on a configuration of the UE 115 and implemented by the UE 115. The transmission timeline 300 can be applicable to implementations or instances when the UE 115 is configured with sidelink communications such as sidelink communications in V2X and V2V communication systems. In some examples, the transmission timeline 300 can be applicable to implementations or instances when the UE 115 is configured with a DRX configuration for sidelink communications such as sidelink communications in V2X and V2V communication systems.
[0104] exist Figure 3 In the illustrated example, transmission timeline 300 may include sidelink communications between UE 115-a and UE 115-b, which may be reference UEs 115-a and 115-b. Figures 1 to 4 An example of a corresponding device described. The sidelink communication between UE 115-a and UE 115-b can be an example of a unicast communication including a single sidelink connection for both UEs 115 (e.g., UE 115-a and UE 115-b). UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both can carry sidelink communication (e.g., in FDD mode) or can be configured to carry sidelink communication (e.g., in TDD mode). The transmission timeline 300 may include a DTX timeline 305 associated with UE 115-a. The DTX timeline 305 may include one or more DTX active durations 310 (also referred to as DTX ON durations). The DTX active duration 310 may correspond to a time resource (e.g., a symbol, a mini-slot, a time slot, a subframe, a frame) and a frequency resource (e.g., a subcarrier, a carrier). The transmission timeline 300 may include a DTX timeline 315 associated with UE 115-b. The DTX timeline 315 may include one or more DTX active durations 320 and one or more DTX inactive durations 325 (where the UE 115-b is operating in a low power mode). The DTX active durations 320 and the DTX inactive durations 325 may correspond to time resources (e.g., symbols, mini-slots, time slots, subframes, frames) and frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers).
[0105] The transmission timeline 300 may include a DRX timeline 330 associated with the UE 115-a. The DRX timeline 330 may include one or more DRX active durations 335 (also referred to as DRX ON durations). The DRX active durations 335 may correspond to time resources (e.g., symbols, mini-slots, time slots, subframes, frames) and frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers). The transmission timeline 300 may include a DRX timeline 340 associated with the UE 115-b. The DRX timeline 340 may include one or more DRX active durations 345 and one or more DRX inactive durations 350 (where the UE 115-b is operating in a low power mode). The DRX active durations 345 and the DRX inactive durations 350 may correspond to time resources (e.g., symbols, mini-slots, time slots, subframes, frames) and frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers).
[0106] In some examples, UE 115-a and UE 115-b may send or receive various communication content (e.g., control information, data) in an asymmetric manner. In other words, in the context of DTX timelines 305, 315 or DRX timelines 330, 340, or both, the traffic associated with UE 115-a and UE 115-b may be asymmetric. For example, UE 115-a may generate and send information (e.g., packets) every 320ms, while UE 115-b may generate and send information (e.g., packets) every 64ms. In some examples, UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both may be configured to adopt an operating mode that reduces power consumption, such as half-duplex communication (e.g., a mode that supports unidirectional communication via transmission or reception, but not simultaneous transmission and reception). For example, UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both may be configured (e.g., scheduled) with a time division duplex (TDD) configuration. In some examples, UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both may be configured (e.g., scheduled) with a TDD configuration to manage half-duplex communications between UE 115-a and UE 115-b. Thus, sidelink communications between UE 115-a and UE 115-b may be divided in the time domain. In other words, at one moment in time, UE 115-a or UE 115-b may send or receive information (e.g., packets) via a connection (e.g., a sidelink connection) between UE 115-a and UE 115-b.
[0107] UE 115-a or UE 115-b or both may determine a DRX configuration associated with DRX timelines 330, 340 based in part on the DTX configuration. For example, a DTX configuration associated with UE 115-a and used for a connection between UE 115-a and UE 115-b may drive a DRX configuration at a peer UE (e.g., UE 115-b). Similarly, a DTX configuration associated with UE 115-b and used for a connection between UE 115-a and UE 115-b may drive a DRX configuration at a peer UE (e.g., UE 115-a). For example, and as described in reference to Figures 2 to 4 As described, UE 115-a and UE 115-b may perform a connection procedure (e.g., an RRC connection establishment procedure) to establish or improve a connection (e.g., a sidelink connection) between UE 115-a and UE 115-b. During the connection procedure, UE 115-a may provide a DTX configuration that may indicate a DTX pattern (e.g., a DTX cycle) of 320ms. Additionally or alternatively, the DTX configuration may indicate one or more of a DTX timing offset, a DTX active duration, a DTX inactive duration, or any combination thereof. Similarly, during the connection procedure, UE 115-b may provide a DTX configuration that may indicate a DTX pattern (e.g., a DTX cycle) of 64ms. Additionally or alternatively, the DTX configuration may indicate one or more of a DTX timing offset, a DTX active duration, a DTX inactive duration, or any combination thereof.
[0108] Based on the exchange of DTX configurations, UE 115-a and UE 115-b may negotiate (e.g., determine) a DTX timing offset. Figure 3 In the example of , the DRX configuration determination can be based on the DTX configuration of the peer UE (e.g., UE 115-a or UE 115-b). That is, the DRX configuration of UE 115-a can be based on the DTX configuration of UE 115-b (e.g., the DRX configuration of UE 115-a is equal to (or corresponds to) the DTX configuration of UE 115-b). Similarly, the DRX configuration of UE 115-b can be based on the DTX configuration of UE 115-a (e.g., the DRX configuration of UE 115-b is equal to (or corresponds to) the DTX configuration of UE 115-a). Therefore, the DTX configuration for the connection (e.g., the sidelink connection) drives the DRX configuration at the peer UE.
[0109] Figure 4An example of a wireless communication system 400 that supports a discontinuous reception mechanism for sidelink communication according to aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the wireless communication system 400 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the wireless communication system 400 can support multiple radio access technologies, including a 4G system such as an LTE system, an LTE-A system, or an LTE-APro system, and a 5G system that can be referred to as an NR system. The wireless communication system 400 can also support sidelink communication between multiple UEs 115, such as sidelink communication between UE 115-c, UE 115-d, and UE 115-e, which can be referenced. Figure 1-Figure 3 Examples of corresponding devices described. Examples of sidelink communications may include D2D communications, V2X communication systems, V2V communication systems, etc. The wireless communication system 400 may also support improvements in power consumption, and in some examples, may facilitate high reliability and low latency sidelink communications, among other benefits.
[0110] exist Figure 4 In the illustrated example, UE 115-c may be a receiving UE, and UE 115-d and UE 115-e may be transmitting UEs. In the illustrated example, UE 115-c may be synchronized with UE 115-d and UE 115-e. In some examples, one or more of UE 115-c, UE 115-d, and UE 115-e may perform beamforming access on frequency range 2.
[0111] Before or during a first time period (e.g., T0 before T1), UE 115-c may be synchronized with UE 115-d. Similarly, before or during the first time period, UE 115-c may be synchronized with UE 115-e. Before or during the first time period, UE 115-d may conduct DTX-DRX negotiation with UE 115-c. Similarly, before or during the first time period, UE 115-d may conduct DTX-DRX negotiation with UE 115-c. In some examples, the DTX-DRX negotiation may include UE 115-d or UE 115-e or both delivering a DTX configuration to UE 115-c. In some examples, DTX-DRX negotiation may include UE 115-c delivering a DRX configuration to UE 115-d or UE 115-e, or both (e.g., broadcasting to both UE 115-d and UE 115-e simultaneously, or sending to UE 115-d and UE 115-e via separate transmissions).
[0112] In the illustrated example, during the second time period (e.g., T1), UE 115-d can complete a data session with UE 115-c (e.g., the data session is completed during the second time period or before the second time period occurs). As shown, UE 115-c can detect and receive transmissions from UE 115-d via receive beam 405, and can detect and receive transmissions from UE 115-e via receive beam 415. As shown, UE 115-d can send data to UE 115-c via transmit beam 410. In some examples, UE 115-e can send data to UE 115-c via a transmit beam directed toward receive beam 415 (e.g., based on a DTX mode or configuration of UE 115-e).
[0113] During a third time period (e.g., T1+t'), UE 115-c may determine that UE 115-e has no more data to send to UE 115-c (e.g., based on a timeout, etc.). In some examples, based on UE 115-c determining that UE 115-e has no more data to send, UE 115-c may stop listening to UE 115-e (e.g., deactivate receive beam 415). In some examples, UE 115-c may stop listening to UE 115-e to save power.
[0114] During a fourth time period (e.g., T2), UE 115-e may have new data to send to UE 115-c (e.g., a new data session with UE 115-c). However, because UE 115-c deactivated receive beam 415 during the third time period, UE 115-e may not be configured to communicate new data to UE 115-c using a previous or abandoned DTX mode. Even if UE 115-e is configured with a DTX mode between UE 115-c and UE 115-d, UE 115-e may not be able to send new data to UE 115-c using the DTX mode between UE 115-c and UE 115-d because the receive beam 405 monitored by UE 115-c may not be directed toward UE 115-e. In some examples, beam discovery may be relatively infrequent. Therefore, UE 115-e may experience a high delay penalty for new data. The described techniques may enable a UE 115 - e to indicate a new data session for beamforming access.
[0115] In some examples, UE 115-c may determine a set of receive beams for discontinuous reception of a sidelink connection of UE 115-c with one or more peers (e.g., UE 115-d, UE 115-e, etc.) based at least in part on a received discontinuous transmission configuration. In some examples, UE 115-c may send a DRX configuration 215 to UE 115-d or UE 115-e or both, indicating the determined set of receive beams for discontinuous reception of sidelink connection 205. In some examples, UE 115-c may send an indication of at least one beam in the set of receive beams in the DRX configuration. In some examples, UE 115-c may send an indication of time resources or frequency resources or both corresponding to one or more receive beams in the set of receive beams in the DRX configuration. In some examples, for a recurring set of discontinuous reception, UE 115-c may send an indication of time resources during which UE 115-c will receive using each corresponding receive beam in the set of receive beams. In some examples, UE 115-c may attempt to receive a transmission from UE 115-d or UE 115-e, or both, on the determined set of receive beams at a corresponding set of opportunities during the recurring period of discontinuous reception. In some examples, UE 115-c may receive a transmission from UE 115-d or UE 115-e on a receive beam in the set of receive beams during one of the opportunities in the set of opportunities corresponding to the receive beam.
[0116] Figure 5 An example of a wireless communication system 500 supporting a discontinuous reception mechanism for sidelink communication according to aspects of the present disclosure is shown. In some examples, the wireless communication system 500 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the wireless communication system 500 can support multiple radio access technologies, including a 4G system such as an LTE system, an LTE-A system, or an LTE-APro system, and a 5G system that can be referred to as an NR system. The wireless communication system 500 can also support sidelink communications between multiple UEs 115, such as sidelink communications between UEs 115-f, UEs 115-g, UEs 115-h, and UEs 115-i, which can be referenced. Figures 1 to 4 Examples of corresponding devices described. Examples of sidelink communications may include D2D communications, V2X communication systems, V2V communication systems, etc. The wireless communication system 500 may also support improvements in power consumption, and in some examples, may facilitate high reliability and low latency sidelink communications, among other benefits.
[0117] exist Figure 5In the illustrated example, UE 115-f may be a receiving UE, and UE 115-g, UE 115-h, and UE 115-i may be transmitting UEs. In the illustrated example, UE 115-f may be synchronized with at least one of UE 115-g, UE 115-h, or UE 115-i, or any combination thereof. In some examples, one or more of UE 115-f, UE 115-g, UE 115-h, and UE 115-i may perform beamforming access on frequency range 2.
[0118] In the illustrated example, during a first time period (e.g., T1), UE 115-f can determine a DRX configuration update based on DTX information from one or more UE peers (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, or UE 115-i). As shown, UE 115-f can use receive beams 505, 515, and 520 to monitor transmissions from peer UEs. During the first time period, UE 115-f can actively monitor transmissions on receive beam 505, while receive beams 515 and 520 are inactive. In some examples, UE 115-f can notify the one or more UE peers during a DTX opportunity with one or more UE peers or during a DRXON period of the peer. As shown, UE 115-f can notify UE115-g of a DRX configuration update during the first time period. In some cases, UE 115-g can communicate 510 with UE115-f during a DTX opportunity or a DRX ON period. In the illustrated example, during the first time period, UE 115-i may determine that it has new data to send to UE 115-f. In some examples, UE 115-i may be configured with information about receive beams 505, 515, and 520. Based on this knowledge, UE 115-i may attempt to deliver at least a portion of a control message or a data message to UE 115-f and wait to receive feedback. However, the message from UE 115-i may not reach UE 115-f because, as shown, receive beam 515 may be inactive during the first time period.
[0119] In the illustrated example, during a second time period (e.g., T2), UE 115-f may notify UE 115-h of a DRX configuration update. During the second time period, UE 115-f may actively listen to transmissions on receive beam 520, while receive beams 505 and 515 are inactive. In some cases, UE 115-h may communicate 530 with UE 115-f during a DTX opportunity or a DRX ON period. In the illustrated example, during the second time period, UE 115-i may determine that it has new data to send to UE 115-f. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-i may continue to attempt to indicate new data to UE 115-f during the second time period. In some examples, during the second time period, UE 115-i may attempt to deliver or re-deliver at least a portion of a control message or a data message to UE 115-f and wait to receive feedback. However, the message (or messages) from UE 115-i may not reach UE 115-f because, as shown, receive beam 515 may be inactive during the second time period.
[0120] In the illustrated example, during a third time period (e.g., T3), UE 115-f may notify UE 115-i of a DRX configuration update. During the third time period, UE 115-f may actively listen for transmissions on receive beam 515, while receive beams 505 and 520 are inactive. In some cases, UE 115-h may communicate 530 with UE 115-f during a DTX opportunity or a DRX ON period. In some examples, UE 115-i may send (e.g., communicate 530) an indication of new data. In some examples, UE 115-i may send an indication of data, an indication of control information, the data itself, or the control information itself to UE 115-f. Based on communication 530, UE 115-f is notified of new data from UE 115-i.
[0121] In some examples, UE 115-f may indicate one or more beam directions in a DRX configuration update. In some examples, UE 115-f may indicate at least one of a time resource or a frequency resource or a static time period or any combination thereof. In a third time period, UE 115-i may successfully send at least an indication of data, an indication of control, or the data itself or the control itself or any combination thereof to UE 115-f.
[0122] In some examples, UE 115-f may determine a DRX cycle (e.g., during an initial DTX-DRX configuration or update), and UE 115-f may notify all other peers (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, and UE 115-i) of the determined DRX cycle (e.g., via a DRX notification or DRX configuration notification message). In some examples, the DRX notification may indicate one or more beam directions that UE 115-f monitors during each DRX period.
[0123] In some examples, for each DRX cycle, UE 115-f may indicate specific time (or frequency, or time-frequency) resources on which UE 115-f performs beamforming in some directions. In some examples, the indicated time resources may include static time periods during which UE 115-f performs beamforming (e.g., the aforementioned data transmission) in one or more directions. In some examples, UE 115-f may perform beamforming in a dynamic manner on a set of beams.
[0124] In some examples, UE 115-f may determine one or more receive beam configurations (e.g., beam set-1, etc.) to communicate with peer UEs (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, and UE 115-i) on sidelink communications. In some examples, UE 115-f may assign a receive beam configuration index (RCI) corresponding to the receive beam configuration. In some examples, UE 115-f may indicate the RCI to the peer UEs (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, and UE 115-i). In some examples, UE 115-f may form receive beams (e.g., b0, b1, b2, b3) and determine that it is able to receive transmissions from its peers (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, or UE 115-i) using beams b0 and b1 but not b2 and b3. In some examples, UE 115-f may determine that beam b0 is better than b1. In this example, UE 115-f may allocate RCI-0 corresponding to receive beam b0 and indicate to a peer UE (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, or UE 115-i) that UE 115-f is using RCI-0 for default communication with the peer UE.
[0125] In some examples, UE 115-f may indicate one or more DRX configurations to a peer UE (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, or UE 115-i). In some examples, each of the multiple DRX configurations may include a receive beam configuration that UE 115-f uses to receive during the DRX ON duration. In some examples, each of the multiple DRX configurations may include a DRX period, or a frame offset, or a time slot offset, or an ON duration, or an RCI that UE 115-f intends to use during the DRX ON duration, or any combination thereof. In some examples, one RCI is indicated for the entire ON duration. In some examples, one or more RCIs are indicated during a subset of time slots within the ON duration (e.g., b0 during 1100000000, b1 during 0011110000, b2 during 0000001111, and so on)
[0126] In some examples, UE 115-f may indicate to a peer UE (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, or UE 115-i) at least a second receive beam configuration (e.g., beam set-2 in addition to beam set-1). In some examples, UE 115-f may still receive from the peer UE during the DRX ON duration on beams in beam set-2 for purposes of reestablishing the connection. In some examples, a peer UE (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, or UE 115-i) may indicate to UE 115-f that it may be able to listen on RCI-1 (e.g., associated with the second receive beam configuration) in addition to RCI-0. In some examples, RCI-1 may be an index corresponding to a suboptimal receive beam (e.g., a wider beam), but a beam with which UE 115-f may still be able to communicate. In some examples, the beam of the second beam configuration may not be the preferred beam for communicating with the peer UE, but if the peer UE determines to deliver data or re-establish a connection during the DRX ON duration, the peer UE can be enabled to deliver data based on the first receive beam configuration and the second receive beam configuration, regardless of whether the receive beam is RCI-0 or RCI-1.
[0127] In some examples, UE 115-f can indicate in the DRX configuration an expected degradation in quality of service when using additional beams of a second beam configuration (e.g., beam set-2, RCI-1) as compared to a preferred beam of a first beam configuration (e.g., beam set-1) for sidelink communications with a peer. In some examples, the DRX configuration can indicate that the peer UE should expect a certain level (e.g., x decibels) of signal-to-noise ratio loss. In some examples, when sending a signal to UE 115-f using the second beam configuration, the peer UE can increase the transmit power or downgrade the modulation and coding scheme, or both.
[0128] In some examples, UE 115-i may attempt to deliver a control message or a data message, or both, using a beam aligned with one of the beams indicated in the DRX configuration from UE 115-f. In some examples, UE 115-i may receive feedback using a beam aligned with one of the beams indicated in the DRX configuration from UE 115-f. In some examples, UE 115-i that was previously configured with a receive beam configuration from UE 115-f may attempt to signal an indication of new data to be sent in resources (e.g., time or frequency resources, or both) indicated in the DRX configuration, regardless of whether the beam alignment satisfies a certain beam alignment threshold.
[0129] In some examples, UE 115-i may send multiple copies of a control message or a data message, or both, until UE 115-i determines that the transmission was successfully received by UE 115-f (e.g., via feedback from UE 115-f, where the feedback may be in the form of a HARQ ACK or some RRC response or update message). In some examples, UE 115-i sending multiple copies of a control message or a data message, or both, may trigger a DTX-DRX configuration update. In some examples, an update to DRX of UE 115-f may be sent to a peer UE (e.g., UE 115-g, UE 115-h, or UE 115-i) during a DTX opportunity with the peer UE. In some examples, UE 115-f may send the DRX configuration during an upcoming DRX ON period with the peer.
[0130] In some examples, UE 115-i may deliver a radio resource control connection reconfiguration message (e.g., only deliver the radio resource control connection reconfiguration message) to trigger a DTX-DRX configuration update. In some examples, the radio resource control connection reconfiguration message may include a new DTX configuration for a new data session for which UE 115-i has prepared data to send to UE 115-f. In some examples, UE 115-f, after receiving the radio resource control connection reconfiguration message from UE 115-i, may deliver a second radio resource control connection reconfiguration message (e.g., a DRX configuration notification message) to UE 115-i to indicate a new DRX cycle. In some examples, UE 115-f may request UE 115-i to apply an offset to its new DTX configuration. In some examples, UE 115-f may deliver an updated DRX configuration to UE 115-i using a second radio resource control connection reconfiguration message.
[0131] In some examples, UE 115-i may deliver a data packet (e.g., only a data packet) to trigger a DTX-DRX configuration update. In some examples, UE 115-f may blindly decode the data packet and deliver an ACK / NACK response to UE 115-i. In some examples, UE 115-i may deliver both a radio resource control connection reconfiguration message and a data packet or at least a portion of a data packet to trigger a DTX-DRX configuration update. When UE 115-i does not receive a response from UE 115-f, UE 115-i may perform one or more retransmissions of the data packet or the radio resource control connection reconfiguration message or both.
