AI Technical Summary
In the hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) feedback, existing wireless communication systems are difficult to distinguish the decoding results of the control channel and the data channel, resulting in the retransmission strategy being insufficiently refined and the resource utilization efficiency is low.
Three-state HARQ feedback mechanism is adopted to provide three possible feedback states by indicating that the decoding of the control channel is successful or failed, and combined with the decoding results of the data channel, three possible feedback states are provided: the control channel decoding failed, the control channel and the data channel are both decoding successfully, or the control channel is successfully decoding but the data channel is decoding failed.
The base station's response to retransmission requests is improved, the possibility of invalid retransmission is reduced, and the utilization efficiency of radio resources is improved.

Technical Field
[0003]
[0006] Generally speaking, aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications, and to techniques and apparatus for three-state hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback. Background Art
[0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various telecommunication services such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcasting. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies that can support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc.). Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and long term evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard released by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
[0005] A wireless network may include multiple base stations (BSs) that can support communications for multiple user equipments (UEs). A UE may communicate with a BS via a downlink and an uplink. A "downlink" (or "forward link") refers to a communication link from a BS to a UE, and an "uplink" (or "reverse link") refers to a communication link from a UE to a BS. As will be described in more detail herein, a BS may be referred to as a Node B, gNB, access point (AP), radio head, transmit receive point (TRP), new radio (NR) BS, 5G Node B, etc.
[0006] The above multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different user devices to communicate at the city, country, region, and even global level. NR (which may also be referred to as 5G) is an enhancement set to the LTE mobile standard released by 3GPP. NR is designed to better integrate with other open standards by improving spectrum efficiency, reducing costs, improving services, utilizing new spectrum, and using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) (CP-OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) on the downlink (DL), using CP-OFDM and / or SC-FDM (e.g., also known as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink (UL), and supporting beamforming, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology and carrier aggregation, so as to better support mobile broadband Internet access. As the demand for mobile broadband access continues to grow, it is still useful to make further improvements to LTE, NR and other radio access technologies. Summary of the invention

For example, using any number of aspects set forth herein, a device can be implemented or a method can be implemented. In addition, the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover such a device or method implemented using other structures, functions, or structures and functions other than the various aspects of the present disclosure set forth herein or different from the various aspects of the present disclosure set forth herein. It should be understood that any aspect of the present disclosure disclosed herein can be embodied by one or more elements of the claims.
[0033] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various devices and techniques. These devices and techniques will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, modules, components, circuits, steps, processes, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as "elements"). These elements may be implemented using hardware, software, or a combination thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and the design constraints imposed on the overall system.
[0034] It should be noted that although various aspects may be described herein using terminology generally associated with 5G or new radio (NR) radio access technology (RAT), various aspects of the present disclosure may be applied to other RATs, such as 3G RAT, 4G RAT and / or RATs beyond 5G (e.g., 6G).
[0035] Figure 11 is a schematic diagram showing an example of a wireless network 100 according to the present disclosure. The wireless network 100 may be or may include elements of a 5G (NR) network and / or an LTE network, as well as other examples. The wireless network 100 may include a plurality of base stations 110 (shown as BS 110a, BS 110b, BS 110c, and BS 110d) and other network entities. A base station (BS) is an entity that communicates with a user equipment (UE) and may also be referred to as an NR BS, Node B, gNB, 5G Node B (NB), access point, transmit receive point (TRP), etc. Each BS may provide communication coverage for a specific geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to a coverage area of a BS and / or a BS subsystem serving the coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used.
[0036] A BS may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a pico cell, a femto cell, and / or another type of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., several kilometers in radius) and may allow unrestricted access by UEs with service subscription. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access by UEs with service subscription. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a residence) and may allow restricted access by UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). A BS for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. A BS for a pico cell may be referred to as a pico BS. A BS for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto BS or a home BS. In Figure 1 In the example shown in , BS 110a may be a macro BS for macro cell 102a, BS 110b may be a pico BS for pico cell 102b, and BS 110c may be a femto BS for femto cell 102c. A BS may support one or more (e.g., three) cells. The terms "eNB", "base station", "NR BS", "gNB", "TRP", "AP", "Node B", "5G NB", and "cell" may be used interchangeably herein.
[0037] In some aspects, the cells may not necessarily be stationary, and the geographic area of the cells may move depending on the location of the mobile BS. In some aspects, the BSs may be interconnected to each other and / or to one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in the wireless network 100 through various types of backhaul interfaces (such as direct physical connections or virtual networks) using any suitable transport network.
[0038] The wireless network 100 may also include a relay station. A relay station is an entity that can receive data transmissions from an upstream station (e.g., a BS or a UE) and send data transmissions to a downstream station (e.g., a UE or a BS). A relay station may also be a UE that is capable of relaying transmissions for other UEs. Figure 1 In the example shown in , a relay BS 110d may communicate with a macro BS 110a and a UE 120d to facilitate communication between the BS 110a and the UE 120d. A relay BS may also be referred to as a relay station, a relay base station, a relay, or the like.
[0039] The wireless network 100 may be a heterogeneous network including different types of BSs, such as a macro BS, a pico BS, a femto BS, a relay BS, etc. These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and different effects on interference in the wireless network 100. For example, a macro BS may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5 to 40 watts), while a pico BS, a femto BS, and a relay BS may have a lower transmit power level (e.g., 0.1 to 2 watts).
[0040] A network controller 130 may be coupled to a set of BSs and may provide coordination and control for these BSs. The network controller 130 may communicate with the BSs via a backhaul. The BSs may also communicate with each other directly or indirectly via a wireless or wired backhaul.
[0041] UE 120 (e.g., 120a, 120b, 120c) can be dispersed throughout the wireless network 100, and each UE can be stationary or mobile. UE can also be referred to as an access terminal, terminal, mobile station, subscriber unit, station, etc. UE can be a cellular phone (e.g., a smart phone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet device, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device or apparatus, a biometric sensor / device, a wearable device (smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., smart ring, smart bracelet)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music or video device, or a satellite radio unit), a vehicle component or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, an industrial manufacturing device, a global positioning system device, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via a wireless or wired medium.
[0042] Some UEs may be considered as machine type communication (MTC) or evolved or enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) UEs. MTC and eMTC UEs include, for example, robots, drones, remote devices, sensors, meters, monitors and / or location tags, which may communicate with a base station, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. A wireless node may provide a connection to a network (e.g., a wide area network such as the Internet or a cellular network) or a connection to a network, for example, via a wired or wireless communication link. Some UEs may be considered as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and / or may be implemented as NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) devices. Some UEs may be considered as customer premises equipment (CPE). UE 120 may be included inside a housing that houses components of UE 120 (such as a processor component and / or a memory component). In some aspects, a processor component and a memory component may be coupled together. For example, a processor component (e.g., one or more processors) and a memory component (e.g., a memory) may be operationally coupled, communicatively coupled, electronically coupled, and / or electrically coupled.
[0043] Generally, any number of wireless networks can be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network can support a specific RAT and can operate on one or more frequencies. RAT can also be referred to as radio technology, air interface, etc. Frequency can also be referred to as carrier, channel, etc. Each frequency can support a single RAT in a given geographic area to avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks can be deployed.
[0044] In some aspects, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly using one or more sidelink channels (e.g., without using base station 110 as an intermediary to communicate with each other). For example, UE 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocol (e.g., which may include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocol, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocol), and / or mesh network. In this case, UE 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and / or other operations described elsewhere herein as being performed by base station 110.
[0045] Devices of the wireless network 100 may communicate using an electromagnetic spectrum, which may be subdivided into various categories, bands, channels, etc. based on frequency or wavelength. For example, devices of the wireless network 100 may communicate using an operating band having a first frequency range (FR1) (which may span from 410 MHz to 7.125 GHz), and / or may communicate using an operating band having a second frequency range (FR2) (which may span from 24.25 GHz to 52.6 GHz). Frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are sometimes referred to as mid-band frequencies. Although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to as a "sub-6 GHz" band. Similarly, FR2 is often referred to as a "millimeter wave" band, although it is different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz–300 GHz) identified as a "millimeter wave" band by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Therefore, unless otherwise expressly stated, it should be understood that the term "sub-6 GHz" and the like (if used herein) can broadly refer to frequencies less than 6 GHz, frequencies within FR1, and / or mid-band frequencies (e.g., greater than 7.125 GHz). Similarly, unless otherwise expressly stated, it should be understood that the term "millimeter wave" and the like (if used herein) can broadly refer to frequencies within the EHF band, frequencies within FR2, and / or mid-band frequencies (e.g., less than 24.25 GHz). It is contemplated that the frequencies included in FR1 and FR2 may be modified, and the techniques described herein are applicable to those modified frequency ranges.
[0046] As noted above, Figure 1 is provided as an example. Other examples may differ from those described above. Figure 1 Examples described.
[0047] Figure 2 2 is a diagram illustrating an example 200 of a base station 110 communicating with a UE 120 in a wireless network 100 according to the present disclosure. The base station 110 may be equipped with T antennas 234a through 234t, and the UE 120 may be equipped with R antennas 252a through 252r, where, in general, T≥1 and R≥1.
[0048] At the base station 110, the transmit processor 220 may receive data for one or more UEs from the data source 212, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for each UE based at least in part on a channel quality indicator (CQI) received from the UE, process (e.g., encode and modulate) the data for the UE based at least in part on the MCS selected for each UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. The transmit processor 220 may also process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI)) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, and / or upper layer signaling), and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. The transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., cell-specific reference signals (CRS) or demodulation reference signals (DMRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., primary synchronization signals (PSS) or secondary synchronization signals (SSS)). A transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, and / or reference symbols, if applicable, and may provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MOD) 232a to 232t. Each modulator 232 may process a corresponding output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 232 may further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and up-convert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. T downlink signals from modulators 232a to 232t may be transmitted via T antennas 234a to 234t, respectively.
[0049] At UE 120, antennas 252a to 252r may receive downlink signals from base station 110 and / or other base stations, and may provide received signals to demodulators (DEMOD) 254a to 254r, respectively. Each demodulator 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) the received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator 254 may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain received symbols. A MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from all R demodulators 254a to 254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols (if applicable), and provide detected symbols. A receive processor 258 may process (e.g., demodulate and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for UE 120 to a data sink 260, and provide decoded control information and system information to a controller / processor 280. The term "controller / processor" may refer to one or more controllers, one or more processors, or a combination thereof. The channel processor may determine a reference signal received power (RSRP) parameter, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) parameter, a reference signal received quality (RSRQ) parameter, and / or a channel quality indicator (CQI) parameter, among other examples. In some aspects, one or more components of UE 120 may be included in housing 284.
[0050] The network controller 130 may include a communication unit 294, a controller / processor 290, and a memory 292. The network controller 130 may include, for example, one or more devices in a core network. The network controller 130 may communicate with the base station 110 via the communication unit 294.
[0051] Antennas (e.g., antennas 234a to 234t and / or antennas 252a to 252r) may include or may be included in one or more antenna panels, antenna groups, antenna element sets, and / or antenna arrays, among other examples. Antenna panels, antenna groups, antenna element sets, and / or antenna arrays may include one or more antenna elements. Antenna panels, antenna groups, antenna element sets, and / or antenna arrays may include antenna elements within a single housing and / or antenna elements within multiple housings. Antenna panels, antenna groups, antenna element sets, and / or antenna arrays may include antennas coupled to one or more transmitting and / or receiving components (such as Figure 2 One or more antenna elements of one or more components).
[0052] On the uplink, at the UE 120, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 and control information from a controller / processor 280 (e.g., for reports including RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, and / or CQI). The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266 (if applicable), further processed by modulators 254a through 254r (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM or CP-OFDM), and transmitted to the base station 110. In some aspects, the modulator and demodulator (e.g., MOD / DEMOD 254) of the UE 120 may be included in a modem of the UE 120. In some aspects, the UE 120 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antennas 252, modulators and / or demodulators 254, MIMO detectors 256, receive processors 258, transmit processors 264, and / or TX MIMO processors 266. [0053] At the base station 110, uplink signals from the UE 120 and other UEs may be received by the antenna 234, processed by the demodulator 232, detected by the MIMO detector 236 (if applicable), and further processed by the receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information sent by the UE 120. The receive processor 238 may provide the decoded data to the data sink 239 and provide the decoded control information to the controller / processor 240. The base station 110 may include a communication unit 244 and communicate with the network controller 130 via the communication unit 244. The base station 110 may include a scheduler 246 to schedule the UE 120 for downlink and / or uplink communications. In some aspects, the modulator and demodulator (e.g., MOD / DEMOD 232) of the base station 110 may be included in a modem of the base station 110. In some aspects, the base station 110 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antennas 234, modulators and / or demodulators 232, MIMO detectors 236, receive processors 238, transmit processors 220, and / or TX MIMO processors 230. The transceiver may be used by a processor (e.g., controller / processor 240) and memory 242 to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein, for example, as described with reference to Figure 3-6 Descriptive.
[0054] The controller / processor 240 of the base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, and / or Figure 2 Any other components in the controller / processor 240 of the base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, and / or Figure 2 Any other component in may perform or direct e.g. Figure 5 The process of 500 Figure 6 600 and / or operations of other processes as described herein. Memories 242 and 282 may store data and program codes for base station 110 and UE 120, respectively. In some aspects, memory 242 and / or memory 282 may include a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing one or more instructions (e.g., code and / or program code) for wireless communication. For example, one or more instructions, when executed by one or more processors of base station 110 and / or UE 120 (e.g., directly, or after compilation, conversion, and / or interpretation), may cause one or more processors, UE 120, and / or base station 110 to perform or instruct, for example Figure 5 The process of 500 Figure 6 The operations of process 600 and / or other processes as described herein. In some aspects, executing instructions may include running instructions, converting instructions, compiling instructions, and / or interpreting instructions, among other examples.
[0055] In some aspects, UE 120 may include: a unit for receiving one or more communications from a base station (e.g., using antenna 252, DEMOD 254, MIMO detector 256, receive processor 258, controller / processor 280, etc.), wherein the one or more communications include at least one of the following: a control channel that schedules a data channel, or a control channel and a data channel; and a unit for sending (e.g., using controller / processor 280, transmit processor 264, TX MIMO processor 266, MOD 254, antenna 252, etc.) three-state feedback indicating the results of decoding the one or more communications, wherein the three-state feedback indicates whether the decoding of the control channel was unsuccessful, the decoding of the control channel was successful and the decoding of the data channel was unsuccessful, or the decoding of the control channel and the data channel was successful; etc. In some aspects, such a unit may include a combination of Figure 2 One or more components of UE 120 are depicted, such as controller / processor 280, transmit processor 264, TX MIMO processor 266, MOD 254, antenna 252, DEMOD 254, MIMO detector 256, receive processor 258, etc.
[0056] In some aspects, the base station 110 may include: a unit for sending one or more communications to the UE (e.g., using the controller / processor 240, the transmit processor 220, the TX MIMO processor 230, the MOD 232, the antenna 234, etc.), wherein the one or more communications include at least one of the following: a control channel that schedules a data channel, or a control channel and a data channel; and a unit for receiving (e.g., using the antenna 234, the DEMOD 232, the MIMO detector 236, the receive processor 238, the controller / processor 240, etc.) three-state feedback indicating the results of decoding the one or more communications, wherein the three-state feedback indicates whether the decoding of the control channel was unsuccessful, the decoding of the control channel was successful and the decoding of the data channel was unsuccessful, or the decoding of the control channel and the data channel was successful; etc. In some aspects, such a unit may include a combination of Figure 2 One or more components of base station 110 are depicted, such as antenna 234, DEMOD 232, MIMO detector 236, receive processor 238, controller / processor 240, transmit processor 220, TX MIMO processor 230, MOD 232, antenna 234, and the like.
[0057] Although Figure 2 The blocks in the 200 and 210 are shown as distinct components, but the functionality described above with respect to these blocks may be implemented in a single hardware, software, or combined component or in various combinations of components. For example, the functionality described with respect to the transmit processor 264, the receive processor 258, and / or the TX MIMO processor 266 may be performed by or under the control of the controller / processor 280.
[0058] As noted above, Figure 2 is provided as an example. Other examples may differ from those described above. Figure 2 Examples described.
[0059] The base station may send a control channel (e.g., a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), etc.) carrying control information (such as downlink control information (DCI) or uplink control information (UCI)) to the UE. In some cases, the DCI may schedule subsequent data communications, which may be sent by the base station on a data channel (such as a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH)). The data communication may include a single transport block (TB) or may include multiple code blocks (CBs), referred to as a code block group (CBG).
[0060] There are various possible results of receiving a control channel carrying DCI and scheduled data communications. For example, the UE may fail to decode the DCI, which means that the UE is not aware of the scheduled data communications, and therefore reception of the scheduled data communications may fail. As another example, the UE may successfully decode the DCI, and then may fail to decode the scheduled data communications. As yet another example, the UE may successfully decode the DCI and the scheduled data communications.
[0061] The UE may provide feedback to the base station indicating the result of decoding the control channel and the scheduled data communication. For example, the feedback may include hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback, such as HARQ confirmation (HARQ-ACK) or HARQ negative ACK (HARQ-NACK). HARQ feedback provides a mechanism for triggering retransmission of undecoded transmissions. In order to provide HARQ feedback, the UE may generate a HARQ codebook including a value indicating the result of receiving a TB or CBG. For example, the HARQ codebook may include one bit for each TB or CBG to be received by the UE. The value may indicate whether the data communication corresponding to the TB or CBG is decoded. For example, a positive value (e.g., a first binary value) may indicate that the data communication is decoded, and a negative value (e.g., a second binary value) may indicate that the data communication is not decoded. If the HARQ codebook indicates that the data communication is not decoded, the base station may retransmit the data communication. In some aspects, the base station may modify the transmission configuration for the data communication, such as by making the data communication more robust, increasing the transmit power, and so on, thereby increasing the possibility of receiving the retransmitted data.
[0062] However, the use of binary or two-state HARQ feedback may not provide sufficient information to distinguish whether the failure to receive data communication is due to a failure to decode the data communication itself (when the corresponding DCI is successfully decoded) or a failure to decode the DCI that schedules the data communication. These two failure situations may be associated with different mitigation actions. For example, if the failure to decode the DCI causes the failure, the base station may take actions to improve the robustness of the control channel (such as increasing the power level of the control channel, changing the beam used to send the control channel, or using a larger aggregation level for the control channel), and if the failure to decode the data communication causes the failure, the base station may take actions to improve the robustness of the data channel (such as increasing the power level of the data channel, changing the beam used to send the data channel, or using a smaller modulation and coding scheme for retransmission of the data channel). Taking actions to improve the robustness of both the data channel and the control channel may involve significant overhead and waste BS and UE resources, because only one of these reasons may be the cause of the failure.
[0063] The techniques and apparatus described herein provide tri-state HARQ feedback for data communications. For example, the tri-state HARQ feedback may indicate three results: a first result indicating a failure to decode a DCI, a second result indicating a successful DCI decoding and a failure to decode the corresponding data communication, and a third result indicating a successful decoding of the data communication. By providing tri-state HARQ feedback, the UE may enable the base station to perform a more customized response to a NACK because the base station may determine whether the cause of the NACK is associated with a failed DCI reception or a failed PDSCH reception. In this way, utilization of the radio resources of the UE and the base station is improved by reducing the likelihood of repeated reception failures.
[0064] Figure 3 is a schematic diagram of an example 300 showing HARQ feedback for a first PDCCH and a second PDCCH according to the present disclosure. Example 300 shows communications received and sent by a UE (e.g., UE 120). Example 300 involves five time slots, which are represented by squares: the first three downlink time slots, represented by "D" under each time slot; special time slots, represented by "S"; and uplink time slots, represented by "U". It is expected that the UE will only receive communications in downlink time slots, only send communications in uplink time slots, and may receive or send communications in special time slots.
[0065] As shown, the UE may receive a first PDCCH (e.g., PDCCH1). PDCCH1 may carry DCI for scheduling a first data channel (e.g., PDSCH 1) in a subsequent time slot. As further shown, the UE may receive a second PDCCH (e.g., PDCCH2). PDCCH2 may carry DCI for scheduling a second data channel (e.g., PDSCH2) in a subsequent time slot. If the UE fails to decode PDCCH1, the UE may necessarily fail to receive and decode PDSCH1, because if the UE fails to decode PDSCH 1, the UE will not know the existence of PDSCH1. This scenario may be referred to as control failure or c-failure. In some cases, the UE successfully decodes PDCCH1 and then fails to decode PDSCH1. In other cases, the UE successfully decodes PDCCH1 and PDSCH1. In each of these cases, the UE provides HARQ feedback in the uplink time slot, as shown by reference numeral 310. For example, the UE may generate a HARQ codebook based at least in part on selecting an orthogonal sequence from a set of orthogonal sequences, wherein the orthogonal sequence indicates a result of decoding PDSCH1 and PDSCH2.
[0066] In some aspects, the UE may provide dual-state HARQ feedback. The dual-state HARQ feedback may include an ACK (indicating that the corresponding PDSCH was successfully decoded) or a NACK (indicating that the corresponding PDSCH was not successfully decoded). However, the NACK may not indicate whether the UE failed to decode the corresponding PDSCH due to a control failure (e.g., a failure to decode the PDCCH for scheduling the corresponding PDSCH) or due to a failure to decode the corresponding PDSCH itself after successfully decoding the PDCCH. The failure to decode the corresponding PDSCH itself after successfully decoding the PDCCH may be referred to herein as a true NACK.
[0067] The techniques and apparatus described herein provide for a UE to send tri-state HARQ feedback. Tri-state HARQ feedback is feedback that distinguishes between a failure to decode a PDSCH due to a failure to decode a PDCCH for scheduling a PDSCH and a failure to decode a PDSCH after successfully decoding a PDCCH for scheduling a PDSCH. For example, tri-state HARQ feedback may be associated with three potential states: a first state indicating a control failure, a second state indicating a true NACK, and a third state indicating an ACK. In example 300, tri-state HARQ feedback may indicate that PDSCH1 is successfully decoded, PDCCH1 is successfully decoded and PDSCH1 is not successfully decoded, or PDCCH1 is not successfully decoded (and similarly for PDSCH 2 and PDCCH2). Based at least in part on tri-state HARQ feedback, a base station may perform more appropriate tasks to improve retransmissions compared to bi-state HARQ feedback. For example, the base station may determine whether a failure to decode a PDSCH is caused by a control failure or a true NACK, and may therefore selectively modify the PDCCH or PDSCH to improve the likelihood of successful reception without unduly increasing overhead and reducing throughput.
[0068] As a first example, assume that UE 120 fails to decode PDCCH 1 and successfully decodes PDCCH 2. Based on the total downlink assignment index (DAI) field in PDCCH 2, UE 120 can determine that BS 110 has scheduled a total of 2 PDSCHs. Therefore, UE 120 can feedback two bits in the HARQ-ACK after the total DAI. It is further assumed that UE 120 also successfully decodes the second PDSCH (corresponding to PDCCH 2). Using three-state HARQ feedback, UE 120 can feedback a codebook indicating {control failure, ACK}, where the first entry is feedback for the first DL transmission (e.g., PDCCH 1), and the second entry is feedback for the second DL transmission (e.g., PDCCH 2 and the second PDSCH). In contrast, in this scenario, using two-state HARQ feedback, UE 120 can feedback a codebook indicating {NACK, ACK}.
[0069] As a second example, assume that UE 120 fails to decode PDCCH 1 and successfully decodes PDCCH 2. In this case, based at least in part on the total DAI field in PDCCH 2, UE 120 can determine that BS 110 has scheduled 2 PDSCHs in total (e.g., sent 2 PDCCHs), and UE 120 can therefore feedback two bits in the HARQ-ACK feedback based on the total DAI. If UE 120 fails to decode the second PDSCH, using three-state HARQ feedback, UE 120 can feedback a codebook indicating {control failure, NACK}, where the first entry is feedback for the first DL transmission and the second entry is feedback for the second DL transmission. However, with two-state feedback, UE 120 can feedback a codebook indicating {NACK, NACK}.
[0070] In some aspects, tri-state HARQ feedback may be useful in beam-based communication systems, such as communication systems operating in FR2 or frequency range 4 (FR4), where FR4 covers approximately 52.6 GHz to 71 GHz. For example, assume that BS 110 does not know which beam should be used to send PDCCH to UE 120. Then, BS 110 may schedule PDSCH 1 using PDCCH 1. BS 110 may send PDCCH 1 using beam 1 (e.g., BS 110 may send PDCCH 1 using PDCCH transmission configuration indicator (TCI) / quasi co-location (QCL) state 1). BS 110 may schedule PDSCH 2 using PDCCH 2, and may send PDCCH 2 using beam 2 (e.g., as PDCCH TCI / QCL state 2). Assume that at UE 120, decoding of PDCCH 1 and PDCCH 2 is successfully decoded, but decoding of PDSCH 2 fails. With tri-state HARQ feedback, UE 120 may feedback {control failure, NACK}. Based at least in part on the feedback, BS 110 may determine that PDCCH 1 failed and PDCCH 2 succeeded. BS 110 may then determine that beam 2 is superior to beam 1 for transmission of the PDCCH. Therefore, BS 110 may use beam 2 to schedule future PDSCH transmissions and retransmissions for future PDCCH transmissions. In summary, control failure may be used as a beam indicator / feedback to inform BS 110 which beam is good for PDCCH and / or which beam is poor for PDCCH. In addition, BS 110 may identify or calibrate other qualities of PDCCH transmissions, such as aggregation level, PDCCH transmit power, etc., based at least in part on the feedback.
[0071] As noted above, Figure 3is provided as an example. Other examples may differ from those described above. Figure 3 Examples described.
[0072] Figure 4 1 is a diagram illustrating an example 400 of signaling associated with tri-state HARQ feedback according to the present disclosure. As shown, the example 400 includes a UE 120 and a BS 110.
[0073] As in Figure 4 4 and indicated by reference numeral 410, UE 120 may send UE capability information to BS 110. For example, the UE capability information may indicate whether UE 120 is capable of determining and providing tri-state HARQ feedback. In some aspects, the UE capability information may indicate one or more parameters associated with tri-state HARQ feedback, such as a minimum processing timeline for determining and / or providing tri-state HARQ feedback, etc.
[0074] As shown by reference numeral 420, BS 110 may send configuration information to UE 120. The configuration information may indicate that tri-state HARQ feedback is enabled at UE 120. For example, BS 110 may configure UE 120 (e.g., via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, etc.) to determine and send tri-state HARQ feedback. In some aspects, the configuration for providing tri-state HARQ feedback may be per UE granularity. For example, BS 110 may configure a first UE to send tri-state HARQ feedback, and may configure a second UE to send bi-state HARQ feedback. In some aspects, the configuration for providing tri-state HARQ feedback may be per component carrier (CC) granularity. For example, BS 110 may configure UE 120 to send tri-state HARQ feedback on a first CC, and to send bi-state HARQ feedback on a second CC. In such a case, UE 120 may send tri-state HARQ feedback and bi-state HARQ feedback in the same HARQ codebook.
[0075] In some aspects, the configuration information may indicate a condition for determining tri-state HARQ feedback. For example, the condition may indicate that if UE 120 is configured with a HARQ codebook for ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC), UE 120 will determine tri-state HARQ feedback, otherwise (e.g., if UE 120 is configured with a HARQ codebook for enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) communication) determine bi-state HARQ feedback. As another example, the condition may indicate that if a high-reliability block error rate (BLER) table (such as a table with 10 -4If the UE 120 determines the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) or channel quality indicator (CQI) for the PDSCH based on the BLER table of the BLER threshold (e.g., the UE 120 determines the tri-state HARQ feedback) for the PDSCH, the UE 120 will determine the tri-state HARQ feedback. As a third example, the condition may indicate that the UE 120 determines the tri-state HARQ feedback only when the code block group (CBG) based PDSCH is not configured (e.g., if the transport block (TB) based PDSCH is configured, the UE 120 will determine the tri-state HARQ feedback).
[0076] As shown by reference numeral 430, BS 110 may send a control channel (e.g., a PDCCH) to UE 120. As indicated by the curved arrow, the control channel may schedule a data channel shown by reference numeral 440. UE 120 may attempt to decode the control channel. If UE 120 successfully decodes the control channel and determines that the data channel is scheduled, UE 120 may attempt to decode the data channel. In some aspects, the control channel and the data channel may be associated with a millimeter wave frequency range (such as FR2 or frequency range 4). As shown by reference numeral 450, UE 120 may determine a tri-state HARQ feedback based at least in part on attempting to decode the control channel and the data channel. For example, UE 120 may generate a tri-state HARQ feedback indicating a control failure (e.g., if UE 120 fails to decode the control channel shown by reference numeral 430), a true NACK (e.g., if UE 120 successfully decodes the control channel and fails to decode the data channel shown by reference numeral 440), or an ACK (e.g., if UE 120 successfully decodes the data channel). In some aspects, the UE 120 may selectively generate dual-state HARQ feedback or tri-state HARQ feedback, for example based at least in part on one or more of the conditions described in conjunction with reference numeral 420. As shown by reference numeral 460, the UE 120 may send tri-state HARQ feedback (such as on a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) and / or via uplink control information). In some aspects, the UE 120 may send dual-state HARQ feedback (if determined), multi-state HARQ feedback (such as associated with HARQ feedback for CBG-based PDSCH), or a combination of dual-state, tri-state, and / or multi-state HARQ feedback.
[0077] In some aspects, the UE 120 may selectively generate dual-state HARQ feedback or tri-state HARQ feedback based at least in part on how many TBs or PDSCHs are scheduled by the control channel. For example, in some cases, the UE 120 may receive multiple control channels for scheduling multiple TBs or PDSCHs. In this case, the UE 120 may send tri-state HARQ feedback only when there are multiple TBs or PDSCHs to be confirmed in the HARQ-ACK codebook. If a single TB or PDSCH is to be confirmed in the HARQ-ACK codebook, the UE 120 may use dual-state HARQ feedback. This may resolve the ambiguity about whether the UE 120 missed the PDCCH in the case of a single TB or PDSCH, because in the case of a single TB or PDSCH, the UE 120 cannot determine whether the second PDCCH was missed.
[0078] In some aspects, UE 120 can calculate the value of the UE 120 based at least in part on a base 3 exponential expression (e.g., 3 K , where K is the size of the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) payload used to carry the three-state HARQ feedback) to generate three-state HARQ feedback. For example, the three-state HARQ feedback can be based at least in part on a ternary (e.g., ternary) system, and the two-state HARQ feedback can be based at least in part on a binary system. In some aspects, the three-state HARQ feedback can be generated at least in part based on: a sequence-based PUCCH. The sequence-based PUCCH can be based at least in part on multiple orthogonal sequences. For example, the UE 120 and / or the BS 110 can generate N*M orthogonal sequences (e.g., code points) based at least in part on the Kronecker product of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of n and S (at cyclic shift (CS) index m) (e.g., DFT(n)*S(CS index m)), for n=0, 1, ..., N-1 and m=0, 1, ..., M-1. N may represent the number of OFDM symbols, M may represent the number of tones, and S is a cell-specific low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) sequence of length M. Assuming PUCCH payload size = K, then 3 orthogonal code points / sequences may be selected from the above N*M orthogonal code points / sequences. K code points to generate a size of 3 K To send a payload of K ternary numbers (ternary numbers), for example, t0t1t2…t K-1 , UE 120 can convert the payload ternary stream t0t1t2…t K-1 Converted to a decimal number k, the kth code point in the constructed codebook can then be sent.
[0079] The selection of the sequence may be based at least in part on an independent selection (where the DFT index and the CS index corresponding to the sequence are selected independently of each other) or a joint selection (where the DFT index and the CS index are selected jointly with each other). For independent selection, consider a PUCCH payload size of K, resulting in a codebook size of 3 K In this case, BS 110 may signal two values K1 and K2 to UE 120, where K1+K2=K. K1 and K2 may indicate the payload partition between the DFT domain and the CS domain. UE 120 may select N1=3 from [0, 1, ..., N-1] DFT matrices (where N1=3^K1≤N). K1 DFT row / column indexes with the largest possible annular gap in the selected index to combat channel Doppler shift. UE 120 may also select M2=3 from the [0, 1, ..., M-1] CS indices applied to S K2 CS index (where M2=3 K2 ≤M), with the largest possible annular gap in the selected index to combat channel delay spread. For joint selection, consider DFT row / column indices of n=0, 1, 2, ..., N-1 and CS indices of m=0, 1, 2, ..., M-1. In this case, a set of joint indices j can be constructed based on the above two indices. For example, j=n*M+m or j=m*N+n, where j=0, 1, 2, ..., M*N-1. UE 120 can select 3 from {j=0, 1, 2, ..., M*N-1} K The subset of indices, where K is the payload size. The selection of the subset may be from a starting index j_start, and with an offset j_offset to pick an index from the full set {j=0, 1, 2, ..., M*N-1}, where j_start is signaled by the BS 110, and j_offset may be selected by the UE 120 based on j_offset=floor(M*N / (3 K )) is derived or signaled by BS 110.
[0080] In some aspects, UE 120 may determine and send HARQ feedback for a CBG-based PDSCH. A CBG-based PDSCH may include multiple CBGs scheduled by a PDCCH. UE 120 may provide HARQ feedback for each CBG. Thus, if UE 120 is to provide feedback indicating whether a control failure has occurred for X CBGs, UE 120 may generate 2 X +1 HARQ feedback state, which corresponds to a pair of ACK / NACK states for each CBG (2 XIf UE 120 generates HARQ feedback using sequence-based PUCCH, UE 120 may use a one-to-one mapping between states and sequences to convert the 2 X +1 state mapped to 2 X +1 sequence index. For example, UE 120 may map the control failure state to sequence 0. UE 120 may then map other states (such as b0b1b2…b X-1 ): b0b1b2…b X-1 is converted into an integer L, and then L is mapped to the (L+1)th sequence (i.e., sequence L plus 1) in the sequence codebook (because the initial sequence has been used for the control failure state). Therefore, UE 120 can reduce the latency associated with CBG-based feedback and can enable control failure indication in HARQ feedback for CBG-based PDSCH.
[0081] As shown by reference numeral 470, in some aspects, BS 110 may modify the configuration for subsequent communications based at least in part on the tri-state HARQ feedback. For example, BS 110 may modify the code rate, transmission configuration indicator state, transmit power, etc. for subsequent communications. The subsequent communication may include a retransmission of a control channel or a data channel, or may be a transmission different from the control channel or the data channel. As a specific example, consider communications in FR2. In the case where BS 110 transmits PDCCH1 using beam 1 and transmits PDCCH2 using beam 2, if UE 120 provides tri-state HARQ feedback indicating a control failure for PDCCH1 and a true NACK for PDCCH2, BS 110 may determine that beam 1 is worse than beam 2, and may use beam 2 to transmit PDCCH to schedule retransmission of PDSCH1 corresponding to PDCCH1. Therefore, the tri-state HARQ feedback indicator may be considered an implicit beam feedback indicator.
[0082] Figure 5 is a diagram illustrating an example process 500, performed, for example, by a first wireless node, in accordance with the present disclosure. The example process 500 is an example in which a first wireless node (eg, UE 120, BS 110, etc.) performs operations associated with tri-state HARQ feedback.
[0083] like Figure 5As shown in , in some aspects, process 500 may include: receiving one or more communications from a second wireless node, wherein the one or more communications include at least one of the following: a control channel that schedules a data channel, or a control channel and a data channel (block 510). 25. The method according to claim 24, further comprising: Sending capability information indicating that the first wireless node supports the three-state feedback; as well as Configuration information indicating provision of the three-state feedback is received.
26. The method according to claim 24, wherein: The three-state feedback is generated at least in part based on a codebook, which is generated at least in part based on a plurality of orthogonal sequences, wherein the codebook is generated at least in part based on a base-3 exponential expression.
27. The method according to claim 24, wherein: The one or more communications are received over a code block group (CBG) based data channel comprising one or more CBGs, and wherein the three-state feedback comprises: a binary feedback value for each of the one or more CBGs indicating whether decoding of each CBG was successful or unsuccessful, and A feedback value indicating whether decoding of the control channel is successful or unsuccessful, wherein the control channel is associated with the one or more CBGs.
28. A method of wireless communication performed by a first wireless node, comprising: sending one or more communications to a second wireless node, wherein the one or more communications include at least one of: a control channel that schedules a data channel, or the control channel and the data channel; and Receive tri-state feedback indicating a result of decoding the one or more communications, wherein the tri-state feedback indicates whether decoding of the control channel was unsuccessful, decoding of the control channel was successful and decoding of the data channel was unsuccessful, or decoding of the control channel and the data channel was successful.
29. The method according to claim 28, wherein: The one or more communications is a first communication, and the tri-state feedback indicates that decoding of the control channel is unsuccessful, and wherein the method further comprises: Based at least in part on the tri-state feedback indicating that decoding of the control channel was unsuccessful, a second communication is sent using a modified control channel configuration relative to the first communication.
30. The method of claim 29, wherein: The modified control channel configuration is based at least in part on feedback indicating successful decoding of another control channel sent using the modified control channel configuration.
