Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present application relates to the technical field of oral care, in particular to a mousse type oral care product containing an abrasive and a propellant and a method for stable and uniform distribution of the abrasive in the mousse type oral care product. BACKGROUND

[0002] Mousse type oral care products in liquid foam form have been popular among consumers in recent years due to the full and dense mouthfeel provided by the abundant foam. Such products can generally deliver foam by increasing the mixing of liquid and air through a net structure in the pump to foam, or by instant gasification of a liquefied propellant mixed with the product formula to produce foam after being pumped out of a pressure tank. The former relies solely on net foaming, which is insufficient, and requires the addition of more surfactant (>3%) than ordinary toothpaste or mouthwash to obtain relatively abundant foam. The latter only needs to add the same amount of surfactant as ordinary toothpaste to obtain abundant and dense foam. However, in order to pack the oral care composition into a pressure tank, the viscosity of the composition needs to be reduced.

[0003] For example, Chinese patent application CN200580038164.2 discloses a hysteresis foaming oral care mousse, which comprises an oral care composition and a propellant with a boiling point less than -10℃, wherein the oral care composition comprises a surfactant and a humectant, and the composition has a viscosity of less than 30000 centipoise.

[0004] However, if the composition formula contains an abrasive, the extremely low viscosity causes the abrasive to be unable to be uniformly distributed in the composition and to settle, especially when the composition is packed into a pressure tank, under the influence of the propellant, the abrasive is more likely to settle, resulting in different abrasive content in the foam pumped out each time. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the composition formula to make the abrasive uniformly distributed in the composition while maintaining the viscosity of the composition meeting the requirements (not higher than 30000 centipoise). SUMMARY

[0005] The first technical problem to be solved by the present application is to provide a mousse type oral care product. In the mousse type oral care product (referred to as oral care mousse), the abrasive can be stably and uniformly distributed, so that the concentration of the abrasive contained in the foam pumped out each time is stable.

However, other embodiments may also be preferred under the same or other conditions. Furthermore, the detailed description of one or more preferred embodiments does not imply that other embodiments are useless, nor is it intended to exclude other embodiments from the scope of the invention.

[0046] In this invention, the terms "mousse-type oral care products" and "oral care mousse" have the same meaning.

[0047] Unless otherwise specified in the embodiments of the present invention, the conditions shall be performed in accordance with conventional conditions or conditions recommended by the manufacturer; if the manufacturers of the reagents or instruments used are not specified, they are all conventional products that can be purchased commercially.

[0048] As one aspect of the present invention, an oral care mousse comprises:

[0049] 1) An oral care composition containing surfactants, thickener systems, abrasives, and an orally acceptable carrier; wherein,

[0050] The thickener system comprises a first thickener and a second thickener;

[0051] The first thickener is cellulose gum, and the second thickener is carbomer and / or xanthan gum;

[0052] The viscosity of the oral care composition is ≤30000 centipoise;

[0053] 2) Propellant.

[0054] The present invention unexpectedly discovered that even when the viscosity of the oral care composition is ≤30,000 centipoise and the oral care mousse contains a propellant, the abrasive in the oral care mousse of this application can still be stably and uniformly distributed, so that the concentration of abrasive contained in each pumped foam is stable.

[0055] Friction agent

[0056] According to certain embodiments of the present invention, the abrasive may be a commonly used abrasive in the field of oral care, including but not limited to silica, calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, calcium hydrogen phosphate, and calcium pyrophosphate.

[0057] In some preferred embodiments of the present invention, the abrasive is silica. Specifically, products such as Evonic's Zeodent® 105, 120, 115, 114, 113, and Spherilex™ can be used; Grace's Sylodent® 750, 753, 756, 783, SM850C, and Syloblanc® 81 can be used; PQ's Sorbosil AC 73, 77, 43, 35, 39, and 44 can be used; and Jinshanjiang's MIA and MIG can be used. The present invention has unexpectedly discovered that when the abrasive in the oral care composition is silica, the abrasive can be more stably and uniformly distributed in the oral care mousse.

[0058] In some embodiments of the present invention, the abrasive constitutes 0.1-30% of the oral care composition by mass, including but not limited to 0.1-30%, 0.1-27%, 0.1-24%, 0.1-21%, 0.1-18%, 0.1-15%, 0.1-12%, 0.1-9%, 0.1-6%, 0.1-3%, 0.5-30%, 0.5-27%, 0.5-24%, 0.5-20%, 0.5-18%, 0.5-15%, 0.5-12%, 0.5-9%, 0.5-6%, 0.5-3%, 3-30%, 3-27%, 3-24%, 3-21%, 3-18%, 3 -15%, 3-12%, 3-9%, 3-6%, 6-30%, 6-27%, 6-24%, 6-21%, 6-18%, 6-15%, 6-12%, 6-9%, 9-30%, 9-27%, 9-24%, 9-21%, 9-18%, 9-15%, 9-12%, 12-30%, 12-27%, 12-24%, 12-21%, 12-18%, 12-15%, 15-30%, 15-27%, 15-24%, 15-21%, 15-18%, 20-30%, 20-27%, 20-24%, 20-21%, 25-30%, or 25-27%. When the content of the abrasive is less than 0.1 wt%, the toothpaste has little cleaning power against dental plaque because it is difficult to show abrasive effect; when the content of the abrasive exceeds 30 wt%, it may excessively wear down the piston and make it difficult to perform the function of the pump.

[0065] In this invention, xanthan gum, also known as xanthan gum or xanthan gum, is an extracellular acidic heteropolysaccharide produced by Xanthomonas aeruginosa fermentation. It is a polysaccharide macromolecule composed of a "pentasaccharide repeating unit" structure consisting of D-glucose, D-mannose, D-glucuronic acid, acetic acid, and pyruvate, with a relative molecular mass of over 1 million. The secondary structure of xanthan gum is that the side chains are anti-winding around the main chain backbone and are maintained by hydrogen bonds to form a rod-shaped double helix structure.

[0066] The carbomer is a homopolymer without a core, crosslinked with acrylic acid and polyolefin ether, such as, but not limited to, commercially available products under the trademark Carbopol from Lubrizol Life Sciences.

[0067] In some embodiments of the present invention, the thickener system accounts for 0.1-1.0% by mass of the oral care composition.

[0068] In some embodiments of the present invention, the cellulose gum accounts for 0.05-0.5% by weight in the oral care composition.

[0069] In some embodiments of the present invention, the xanthan gum accounts for 0.05-0.5% by mass in the oral care composition.

[0070] In some embodiments of the present invention, the carbomer accounts for 0.05-0.5% by mass in the oral care composition.

[0071] The present invention has unexpectedly discovered that when the thickener system in the oral care composition contains multiple thickeners, wherein the first thickener is cellulose gum and the second thickener is carbomer and / or xanthan gum, the abrasive can be stably and uniformly distributed in the oral care mousse.

[0072] Surfactant

[0097] The viscosity of the oral care composition is ≤30000 centipoise. Specific embodiment

[0099] Evaluation method of the present application for the stable and uniform distribution of the friction agent

[0100] Choose 10 tubes of oral care mousse product in 50g packaging;

[0101] Take a pump head and press it once to pump out 1g of liquid;

[0102] Collect the liquid pumped out from the 6th to the 10th pumping, repeat the above action 10 times, mix the collected liquids, detect the concentration of friction agent in the pumped mixture, and calculate its recovery rate;

[0103] Collect the liquid pumped out from the 31st to the 35th pumping press, repeat the above action 10 times, mix the collected liquids, detect the concentration of friction agent in the pumped mixture, and calculate its recovery rate.

[0104] Comparing the recovery rates of the friction agent in the two pumped liquids, the closer the recovery rates are, the more stable and uniform the distribution of the friction agent in the product.

[0105] Evaluation method of the present application for the cleanliness of the foam outlet

[0106] Select 10 50g oral care mousse products. Press the pump head; approximately 1g of liquid is dispensed with each press. Press twice daily for 15 consecutive days. Afterward, evaluate the cleanliness of the pump head according to the following scoring criteria.

[0107] 5 points: Keep the pump head clean

[0108] 4 points: The pump head is almost completely contaminated.

[0109] 3 points: The pump head is slightly contaminated.

[0110] 2 points: Pump head contamination

[0111] 1 point: Pump head severely contaminated

[0112] Comparative examples 1-9

[0113] Prepare oral care solutions according to the formulations of Comparative Examples 1-9 in Table 1 below. All raw material data in the table are weight percentages, and viscosity data are in centipoise.

[0114] Table 1:

[0115]

[0116] As can be seen from Table 1:

[0117] The thickener in Comparative Example 1 contained: 0.1% cellulose gum and 0.3% carbomer;

[0118] The thickener in Comparative Example 2 contained: 0.1% cellulose gum and 0.3% xanthan gum;

[0119] The thickener in Comparative Example 3 contained: 0.1% cellulose gum and 0.3% gellan gum;

[0120] The thickener in Comparative Example 4 contained: 0.1% cellulose gum and 0.3% carrageenan;

[0121] The thickener in Comparative Example 5 contains: 0.1% carbomer and 0.3% xanthan gum;

[0122] The thickener in Comparative Example 6 contains: 0.3% carbomer and 0.1% xanthan gum;

[0123] The thickener in Comparative Example 7 contains: 0.3% carbomer and 0.1% carrageenan;

[0124] The thickener in Comparative Example 8 contained: 0.2% xanthan gum and 0.2% gellan gum;

[0125] The thickener in Comparative Example 9 contained: 0.2% gellan gum and 0.2% xanthan gum;

[0126] In Table 1, the compositions of Comparative Examples 1, 2, and 4-7 have similar viscosities; while Comparative Examples 3 and 8-9 have lower viscosities.

[0127] However, the results show:

[0128] 1) No precipitation occurred in the abrasives in the compositions of Comparative Examples 1, 2, 3, 8, and 9. That is, although the viscosities of the compositions are similar or lower, the abrasives exhibit different sedimentation behaviors in different thickener systems; for example, in thickener systems containing cellulose gum and carrageenan, carbomer and xanthan gum, and carbomer and carrageenan, the abrasives in the oral care liquid compositions precipitated.

[0129] 2) Only in thickener systems containing cellulose gum and carbomer, cellulose gum and xanthan gum, cellulose gum and gellan gum, xanthan gum and gellan gum, and gellan gum and carrageenan, did the abrasive in the oral care liquid composition not settle.

[0130] Examples 1-2, comparative examples 10-12

[0131] Comparative Examples 1-3 and 8-9 were mixed with the propellant tetrafluoropropylene in the pressure tank according to the weight percentages in Table 2 to obtain oral care mousses of Examples 1-2 and Comparative Examples 10-12.

[0132] Table 2:

[0133] Example 1 Example 2 Comparative example 10 Comparative example 11 Comparative example 12 Comparative example 1 composition 90 / / / / Comparative example 2 composition / 90 / / / Comparative example 3 composition / / 90 / / Comparative example 8 composition / / / 90 / Comparative example 9 composition / / / / 90 Tetrafluoropropene 10 10 10 10 10

[0134] The recovery rates of the friction agents in Examples 1-2 and Comparative Examples 10-12 were evaluated using the evaluation method for stable and uniform distribution of friction agents. The results are shown in Table 3 below.

[0135] Table 3:

[0136] Example 1 Example 2 Comparative example 10 Comparative example 11 Comparative example 12 Friction agent recovery rate (6-10 times) 105% 103% 151% 143% 147% Friction agent recovery rate (31-35 times) 99% 98% 65% 70% 68%

[0137] As can be seen from Table 3:

[0138] 1) The recovery rates of the abrasive in the front and middle stages of the care solution pumped out in Examples 1 and 2 are similar, that is, the abrasive is relatively evenly distributed in the care solution;

[0139] 2) The recovery rate of abrasive in the first and second stage oral care solutions of Comparative Examples 10-12 was significantly different. Specifically, the abrasive in the oral care solution of Comparative Examples 10-12 showed obvious sedimentation, resulting in a higher abrasive content in the bottom care solution delivered first by the delivery pipe extending to the bottom of the pressure tank, while the abrasive content in the second stage care solution was lower.

[0140] 3) As can be seen from the above, although the abrasive in the oral care liquid compositions of Comparative Examples 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 did not precipitate, the propellant caused some of the oral care liquid compositions to precipitate after being mixed with the oral care liquid composition; only the abrasive in the oral care mousses of Examples 1 and 2 formed by Comparative Examples 1 and 2, respectively, remained relatively evenly distributed.

[0141] 4) In other words, the abrasive distribution in oral care mousse is relatively uniform only when the thickener system in the oral care liquid composition contains cellulose gum and carbomer or cellulose gum and xanthan gum.

[0142] Comparative examples 13-15

[0143] Comparative Examples 13-15 in Table 4 were prepared into oral care solutions according to the formula. All data in the table are weight percentages. For easy comparison, Comparative Example 1 is listed in Table 4 below.

[0144] Table 4:

[0145]

[0146] Examples 3-6

[0147] Comparative Examples 13-15 were canned into pressurized cans and mixed with tetrafluoropropylene according to the weight percentages in Table 5 to obtain Oral Care Mousse of Examples 3-6.

[0148] Table 5:

[0149] Example 3 Example 4 Example 5 Example 6 Comparative example 1 composition 92 / / / Comparative example 13 composition / 92 / / Comparative example 14 composition / / 92 / Comparative example 15 composition / / / 92 Tetrafluoropropene 8 8 8 8

[0150] The recovery rate of the friction agents in Examples 3-6 was evaluated using the evaluation method for stable and uniform distribution of friction agents. The results are shown in Table 6 below.

[0151] Example 3 Example 4 Example 5 Example 6 Friction agent recovery rate (6-10 times) 102% 115% 112% 118% Friction agent recovery rate (31-35 times) 99% 100% 97% 91%

[0152] As can be seen from Table 6, when using cellulose gum and carbomer as thickeners, the recovery rate of the friction agent remains basically stable even when different friction agents are selected. However, the stability is better when the friction agent is silica.

[0153] Comparative examples 16-18

[0154] Comparative Examples 16-18 in Table 7 below were prepared into oral care solutions according to the formula. All data in the table are weight percentages. For ease of comparison, Comparative Example 2 is included in Table 7 below.

[0155] Table 7:

[0156]

[0157]

[0158] Examples 7-10

[0159] The compositions of Comparative Examples 2 and 16-18 were canned into a pressurized can and mixed with the propellant tetrafluoropropylene according to the weight percentages in Table 8 to obtain the oral care mousse of Examples 7-10.

[0160] Table 8:

[0161] Example 7 Example 8 Example 9 Example 10 Comparative example 2 composition 92 / / / Comparative example 16 composition / 92 / / Comparative example 17 composition / / 92 / Comparative example 18 composition / / / 92 Tetrafluoropropene 8 8 8 8

[0162] The recovery rate of the friction agents in Examples 7-10 was evaluated using the evaluation method for stable and uniform distribution of friction agents. The results are shown in Table 9 below.

[0163] Table 9:

[0164] Example 7 Example 8 Example 9 Example 10 Friction agent recovery rate (6-10 times) 104% 114% 116% 110% Friction agent recovery rate (31-35 times) 98% 99% 97% 95%

[0165] As can be seen from Table 9, when cellulose gum and xanthan gum are used as thickeners, the recovery rates of different friction agents remain basically stable, and the stability is even better when the friction agent is silica.

[0166] Example 11, comparative examples 19-22

[0167] The composition of Comparative Example 1 was canned into a pressure vessel containing different propellants according to the weight percentages in Table 10 and mixed with the propellants to obtain the oral care mousses of Examples 11 and Comparative Examples 19-22.

[0168] Table 10:

[0169]

[0170]

[0171] The cleanliness of the foam outlet of the pressure tanks in Example 11 and Comparative Examples 19-22 was evaluated according to the evaluation method for the cleanliness of the foam outlet. The results are shown in Table 11 below.

[0172] Table 11:

[0173] Example 11 Comparative example 19 Comparative example 20 Comparative example 21 Comparative example 22 Cleanliness 5 3 4.5 3.5 3.5

[0174] As can be seen from Table 11, when tetrafluoropropylene or isopentane is used as the propellant, the foam outlet has better cleanliness, especially when tetrafluoropropylene is used, the cleanliness is the best.

[0178]

[0179] Examples 12-16

[0180] Comparative Example 23 was canned into a pressure vessel containing different propellants according to the weight percentages in Table 13 and mixed with the propellants to obtain the oral care mousse of Examples 12-16.

[0181] Table 13:

[0182] Example 12 Example 13 Example 14 Example 15 Example 16 Comparative example 23 composition 95.000 95.000 95.000 95.000 95.000 Tetrafluoropropene 5.000 / / / / Pentane / 5.000 / / / Isopentane / / 5.000 / / Butane / / / 5.000 / Propane / / / / 5.000

[0183] The whitening efficacy of the products in Examples 12-16 of this invention on teeth is tested using the following methods:

[0184] The teeth-whitening effect of a toothpaste can usually be characterized by changes in the L* value. The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) L*a*b* standard colorimetric system is the most commonly used colorimetric system in dentistry. In this system, L* represents perceived lightness, and a* and b* represent hue and chroma, respectively. The value of L* ranges from 0 to 100; the higher the perceived lightness, the closer it is to white, and the lower the value, the closer it is to black. By recording the changes in the L* value of teeth before and after brushing, the teeth-whitening effect of the toothpaste can be reflected.

[0185] Experimental Method: Enamelled blocks from bovine teeth were selected, cut into uniformly sized enamel samples, sanded and polished, and then embedded in acrylic resin, exposing only the enamel surface. The enamel surface was then etched with 0.1 mol / L HCl for 10 seconds. The enamel samples were then fixed in a staining apparatus, and a staining solution prepared with coffee, black tea, FeCl3, and mucin was added. Staining was performed in a 37°C incubator. 225 uniformly stained enamel blocks were randomly divided into 15 parallel groups of 15 samples each. The enamel color was measured using an X-Riet colorimeter (SP64), and the L* value was recorded.

[0186] After measuring the L* value, the enamel samples were fixed on a simulated toothbrush and a flat, soft-bristled toothbrush was used. 1g of the product from the above examples and comparative examples was weighed and added to the toothbrush holder. After simulating brushing for 400 strokes, the enamel blocks were removed, and the L* value of each block was measured and recorded. The changes in the average L* value before and after brushing were compared to reflect the changes in the whitening degree of the enamel surface. The results are shown in Table 15 below.

[0187] Table 15:

[0188]

[0189]

[0190] 1) As can be seen from Table 15, the formulation of Comparative Example 23 has a better whitening effect when delivered by a mousse formulation with added propellant, especially when the propellant is tetrafluoropropylene, the whitening effect is the best.
