[0002] This patent application claims priority to Indian Provisional Patent Application No. 202041048804, filed on November 9, 2020, entitled “TECHNIQUES FORCONFIGURING UE-SUPPORTED CARRIER AGGREGATION BAND COMBINATIONS”, which has been assigned to the assignee of this application. The disclosure of the prior application is considered part of this patent application, and its entire contents are incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field
[0003] In summary, various aspects of this disclosure relate to wireless communications and techniques and apparatus for configuring carrier aggregation band combinations supported by user equipment (UE). Background Technology
[0004] Wireless communication systems have been widely deployed to provide a variety of telecommunications services such as telephone, video, data, messaging, and broadcasting. Typical wireless communication systems employ multiple access technologies that support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc.). Examples of such multiple access technologies include Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) systems, Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) systems, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems, Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) systems, Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and Long Term Evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard issued by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
[0005] A wireless network may include multiple base stations (BSs), which can support communication from multiple user equipment (UEs). UEs can communicate with the BSs via downlinks and uplinks. A downlink (or forward link) refers to the communication link from the BS to the UE, while an uplink (or reverse link) refers to the communication link from the UE to the BS. As will be described in more detail herein, a BS may be referred to as a Node B, gNB, Access Point (AP), Radio Headend, Transmitter Receiver Point (TRP), New Radio (NR) BS, 5G Node B, etc.
[0006] The above multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunications standards to provide a universal protocol enabling different user equipment to communicate across city limits, countries, regions, and even globally. NR (which can also be called 5G) is an evolution set of the LTE mobile standard released by 3GPP. NR is designed to better support mobile broadband internet access by improving spectral efficiency, reducing costs, enhancing service, fully utilizing new spectrum, using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with a cyclic prefix (CP) on the downlink, using CP-OFDM and / or SC-FDM (e.g., also known as Discrete Fourier Transform Spread Spectrum OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink (UL), and supporting beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technologies, and carrier aggregation. As the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, further improvements to LTE, NR, and other radio access technologies remain useful. Summary of the Invention

[0078] The following describes some aspects of a telecommunications system with reference to various devices and techniques. These devices and techniques will be described in the following detailed embodiments and depicted in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, modules, components, circuits, steps, processes, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as "elements"). These elements can be implemented using hardware, software, or any combination thereof. Whether these elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and the design constraints imposed on the overall system.
[0079] It should be noted that although this document uses terms commonly associated with 5G or NR radio access technology (RAT) to describe aspects of this document, aspects of this disclosure may also be applied to other RATs (e.g., 3G RAT, 4G RAT and / or RATs after 5G (e.g., 6G)).
[0080] Figure 1This diagram illustrates an example of a wireless network 100 according to this disclosure. The wireless network 100 may be a 5G (NR) network and / or an LTE network, etc., or may include elements of a 5G (NR) network and / or an LTE network, etc. The wireless network 100 may include multiple base stations 110 (shown as BS 110a, BS 110b, BS 110c, and BS 110d) and other network entities. A base station (BS) is an entity that communicates with a user equipment (UE), and may also be referred to as an NR BS, node B, gNB, 5G node B (NB), access point, transport receiver point (TRP), etc. Each BS may provide communication coverage for a specific geographic area. In 3GPP, depending on the context in which the term "cell" is used, the term "cell" may refer to the coverage area of a BS and / or the BS subsystem serving that coverage area.
[0081] A BS can provide communication coverage for macrocells, picocells, femtocells, and / or another type of cell. A macrocell can cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers), allowing unrestricted access for UEs with service subscriptions. A picocell can cover a relatively small geographic area, allowing unrestricted access for UEs with service subscriptions. A femtocell can cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a home), allowing restricted access for UEs associated with that femtocell (e.g., UEs in a closed user group (CSG)). A BS used for macrocells can be called a macro BS. A BS used for picocells can be called a pico BS. A BS used for femtocells can be called a femto BS or a home BS. Figure 1 In the example shown, BS 110a can be a macro BS for macro cell 102a, BS 110b can be a pico BS for pico cell 102b, and BS 110c can be a femto BS for femto cell 102c. A BS can support one or more (e.g., three) cells. The terms “eNB,” “base station,” “NR BS,” “gNB,” “TRP,” “AP,” “Node B,” “5G NB,” and “cell” are used interchangeably throughout this document.
[0082] In some respects, the cell does not need to be stationary; the geographical area of the cell can move depending on the location of the mobile BS. In some respects, BSs can use any suitable transport network to interconnect with each other and / or interconnect to one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in the wireless network 100 via various types of backhaul interfaces (e.g., direct physical connections or virtual networks).
[0083] The wireless network 100 may also include a relay station. A relay station is an entity that can receive data transmissions from an upstream station (e.g., a BS or a UE) and transmit those data transmissions to a downstream station (e.g., a UE or a BS). A relay station can also be a UE capable of relaying transmissions from other UEs. Figure 1 In the example shown, relay BS 110d can communicate with macro BS 110a and UE 120d to facilitate communication between BS 110a and UE 120d. A relay BS can also be called a relay station, relay base station, repeater, etc.
[0084] Wireless network 100 can be a heterogeneous network comprising different types of Base Stations (BSs) (e.g., macro BSs, pico BSs, femto BSs, relay BSs, etc.). These different types of BSs can have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and different effects on interference in wireless network 100. For example, macro BSs can have higher transmit power levels (e.g., 5 to 40 watts), while pico BSs, femto BSs, and relay BSs can have lower transmit power levels (e.g., 0.1 to 2 watts).
[0085] Network controller 130 can be coupled to a group of base stations (BSs) and provide coordination and control for these BSs. Network controller 130 can communicate with these BSs via backhaul. These BSs can also communicate directly with each other, for example, or indirectly via wireless or wired backhaul communication links.
[0086] UEs 120 (e.g., 120a, 120b, 120c) may be distributed throughout the wireless network 100, and each UE may be stationary or mobile. A UE may also be referred to as an access terminal, terminal, mobile station, user unit, station, etc. A UE may be a cellular phone (e.g., a smartphone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet device, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device or equipment, a biosensor / device, a wearable device (smartwatch, smart clothing, smart glasses, smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., smart ring, smart bracelet)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music or video device or a satellite radio device), an in-vehicle component or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, industrial manufacturing equipment, a GPS device, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via wireless or wired media.
[0087] Some UEs can be considered as Machine-Type Communication (MTC) or Evolved or Enhanced Machine-Type Communication (eMTC) UEs. For example, MTC UEs and eMTC UEs may include robots, drones, remote devices, sensors, meters, monitors, and / or location tags capable of communicating with a base station, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. For example, a wireless node may provide connectivity to or to a network (e.g., a wide area network such as the Internet or a cellular network) via a wired or wireless communication link. Some UEs can be considered as Internet of Things (IoT) devices and / or may be implemented as NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) devices. Some UEs can be considered as Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). UE 120 may be included in a housing that houses the components of UE 120 (e.g., processor components and / or memory components). In some aspects, the processor components and memory components may be coupled together. For example, the processor components (e.g., one or more processors) and memory components (e.g., memory) may be operatively coupled, communicatively coupled, electrically coupled, and / or electronically coupled.
[0088] Typically, any number of wireless networks can be deployed within a given geographical area. Each wireless network can support a specific Radio Access Platform (RAT) and can operate on one or more frequencies. A RAT can also be referred to as a radio technology, air interface, etc. A frequency can also be referred to as a carrier, frequency channel, etc. Each frequency can support a single RAT within a given geographical area to avoid interference between wireless networks using different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks can be deployed.
[0089] In some respects, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly using one or more lateral link channels (e.g., without using base station 110 as an intermediary device). For example, UEs 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicular (V2X) protocols (e.g., which may include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocols or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocols), and / or mesh networks. In this case, UEs 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and / or other operations described elsewhere herein that are performed by base station 110.
[0090] Devices in the wireless network 100 can communicate using the electromagnetic spectrum, which can be subdivided into various categories, bands, channels, etc., based on frequency or wavelength. For example, devices in the wireless network 100 can communicate using an operating band with a first frequency range (FR1) and / or an operating band with a second frequency range (FR2), where FR1 can range from 410 MHz to 7.125 GHz and FR2 can range from 24.25 GHz to 52.6 GHz. The frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are generally referred to as intermediate frequency (IF) bands. Although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to as the "sub-6 GHz" band. Similarly, FR2 is often referred to as the "millimeter wave" band, although it differs from the Extremely High Frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz–300 GHz) recognized as a "millimeter wave" band by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Therefore, unless otherwise explicitly stated, it should be understood that the terms "sub-6GHz," etc. (if used herein), can broadly refer to frequencies less than 6GHz, frequencies within FR1, and / or may include intermediate frequency band frequencies (e.g., greater than 7.125GHz). Similarly, unless otherwise explicitly stated, it should be understood that the terms "millimeter wave," etc. (if used herein), can broadly refer to frequencies within the EHF band, frequencies within FR2, and / or may include intermediate frequency band frequencies (e.g., less than 24.25GHz). These frequencies included in FR1 and FR2 can be modified, and the techniques described herein can be applied to these modified frequency ranges.
[0091] As indicated above, Figure 1 Examples are provided. Other examples can be found in the reference. Figure 1 The examples described are different.
[0092] Figure 2 This is a diagram illustrating an example 200 of communication between a base station 110 and a UE 120 in a wireless network 100, according to the present disclosure. The base station 110 may be equipped with T-type antennas 234a to 234t, and the UE 120 may be equipped with R-type antennas 252a to 252r (wherein, typically T≥1, R≥1).
[0093] At base station 110, transmit processor 220 can receive data from data source 212 intended for one or more UEs, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for the UE based at least in part on channel quality indicators (CQI) received from the UE, process the data for the UE (e.g., coding and modulation) based at least in part on the MCS selected for the UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. Transmit processor 220 can also process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI)) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, and / or upper-layer signaling), and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. Transmit processor 220 can also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., cell-specific reference signals (CRS) or demodulation reference signals (DMRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., primary synchronization signal (PSS) or secondary synchronization signal (SSS)). The transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 can perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on these data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, and / or reference symbols (if any), and provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MODs) 232a to 232t. Each modulator 232 can process its own output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 232 can also process (e.g., convert to analog signal, amplify, filter, and up-convert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The T downlink signals from modulators 232a to 232t can be transmitted via T antennas 234a to 234t respectively.
[0094] At UE 120, antennas 252a to 252r can receive downlink signals from base station 110 and / or other base stations and can provide the received signals to demodulators (DEMODs) 254a to 254r. Each demodulator 254 can adjust (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) its respective received signal to obtain an input sample. Each demodulator 254 can also process these input samples (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain received symbols. MIMO detector 256 can obtain the received symbols from all R demodulators 254a to 254r, perform MIMO detection (if any) on the received symbols, and provide the detected symbols. Receive processor 258 can process (e.g., demodulate and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for UE 120 to data sink 260, and provide decoded control information and system information to controller / processor 280. The term "controller / processor" can refer to one or more controllers, one or more processors, or a combination thereof. The channel processor can determine parameters such as the Received Reference Signal Power (RSRP), Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), Received Reference Signal Quality (RSRQ), and / or CQI. In some respects, one or more components of the UE 120 may be included in the housing 284.
[0095] Network controller 130 may include communication unit 294, controller / processor 290, and memory 292. Network controller 130 may include one or more devices, such as those in a core network. Network controller 130 may communicate with base station 110 via communication unit 294.
[0096] Antennas (e.g., antennas 234a to 234t and / or antennas 252a to 252r) may include, or be included in, one or more antenna panels, antenna groups, antenna element sets, and / or antenna arrays, etc. Antenna panels, antenna groups, antenna element sets, and / or antenna arrays may include one or more antenna elements. Antenna panels, antenna groups, sets of antenna elements, and / or antenna arrays may include a set of coplanar antenna elements and / or a set of non-coplanar antenna elements. Antenna panels, antenna groups, sets of antenna elements, and / or antenna arrays may include antenna elements within a single housing, and / or antenna elements included in multiple housings. Antenna panels, antenna groups, sets of antenna elements, and / or antenna arrays may include one or more antenna elements coupled to one or more transmitting and / or receiving components, such as... Figure 2 One or more components.
[0097] On the uplink, at UE 120, transmit processor 264 can receive data from data source 262 and control information (e.g., for reporting RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, and / or CQI) from controller / processor 280, and process the data and control information. Transmit processor 264 can also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. Symbols from transmit processor 264 can be pre-coded (if any) by TX MIMO processor 266, further processed by modulators 254a to 254r (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM or CP-OFDM), and transmitted back to base station 110. In some aspects, modulators and demodulators (e.g., MOD / DEMOD 254) of UE 120 can be included in the modem of UE 120. In some aspects, UE 120 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antenna 252, modulator and / or demodulator 254, MIMO detector 256, receiver processor 258, transmitter processor 264 and / or TX MIMO processor 266. A processor (e.g., controller / processor 280) and memory 282 may be used with the transceiver to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein.
[0098] At base station 110, uplink signals from UE 120 and other UEs can be received by antenna 234, processed by demodulator 232, detected by MIMO detector 236 (if any), and further processed by receiver processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information transmitted by UE 120. Receiver processor 238 can provide decoded data to data sink 239 and decoded control information to controller / processor 240. Base station 110 may include communication unit 244 and can communicate with network controller 130 via communication unit 244. Base station 110 may include scheduler 246 to schedule UE 120 for downlink and / or uplink communication. In some aspects, the modulator and demodulator (e.g., MOD / DEMOD 232) of base station 110 may be included in the modem of base station 110. In some aspects, base station 110 includes transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antenna 234, modulator and / or demodulator 232, MIMO detector 236, receiver processor 238, transmitter processor 220 and / or TX MIMO processor 230. A processor (e.g., controller / processor 240) and memory 242 may be used with the transceiver to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein.
[0099] The controller / processor 240 of base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of UE 120 and / or Figure 2Any other components may perform one or more techniques associated with configuring the frequency band combinations supported by the UE, as described in further detail elsewhere herein. For example, the controller / processor 240 of base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of UE 120, and / or Figure 2 Any other component can perform or direct, for example Figure 10 The processing 1000 and / or other processing operations as described herein. Memory 242 and 282 may store data and program code for base station 110 and UE 120, respectively. In some aspects, memory 242 and / or memory 282 may include a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing one or more instructions (e.g., code and / or program code) for wireless communication. For example, when said one or more instructions are executed by one or more processors of base station 110 and / or UE 120 (e.g., directly, or after compilation, translation, and / or interpretation), it may cause one or more processors, UE 120, and / or base station 110 to perform or direct, for example... Figure 10 The processing of 1000 and / or other processing operations described herein. In some aspects, the execution instructions may include run instructions, translation instructions, compilation instructions, and / or interpretation instructions.
[0100] In some aspects, the UE includes: a unit for transmitting capability information indicating a set of frequency band configurations; a unit for receiving information indicating a frequency band configuration, wherein the UE supports this frequency band configuration and the capability information does not indicate this frequency band configuration; or a unit for communicating using the frequency band configuration, at least in part, based on the frequency band configurations supported by the UE. The unit for the UE to perform the operations described herein may include one or more of, for example, an antenna 252, a demodulator 254, a MIMO detector 256, a receive processor 258, a transmit processor 264, a TX MIMO processor 266, a modulator 254, a controller / processor 280, or a memory 282.
[0101] In some aspects, the UE includes: a unit for determining whether the UE supports frequency band configuration; or a unit for determining whether to indicate an invalid configuration based at least in part on whether the UE supports frequency band configuration.
[0102] In some aspects, the UE includes: a unit for determining that the capability information does not indicate a frequency band configuration, wherein the determination of whether the UE supports the frequency band configuration is based at least in part on the determination that the capability information does not indicate the frequency band configuration.
[0103] As indicated above, Figure 2 Provided as an example. Other examples can be found in the reference. Figure 2 The examples described are different.
[0104] Figure 3 This is a diagram illustrating example 300 of UE capability signaling, based on various aspects of this disclosure. As shown, example 300 includes a UE (e.g., UE 120), an eNB (e.g., BS 110), and a Mobility Management Entity (MME) (e.g., core network equipment, evolved packet core (EPC), etc.). While eNBs and MMEs are typically associated with LTE networks, the operations described in example 300 can also be applied to networks using other radio access technologies (e.g., 1G, 2G, 3G, 5G / NR). For example, in the case of 5G / NR, the eNB could be a gNB, and the MME could be a device or function associated with a 5G core network (5GC).
[0105] As shown by reference numeral 310, the MME can provide an initial context establishment request to the BS. For example, the MME can provide the initial context establishment request via an interface such as the S1-AP interface. As further shown, the initial context establishment request can indicate UE security capabilities, UE radio capabilities, etc., for example in the information element UERadioAccessCapabilityInformation. As shown by reference numeral 320, the eNB can provide an initial context establishment response to confirm the initial context establishment request.
[0106] As shown by reference numeral 330 in the attached figure, the eNB can determine whether the UE requires additional capabilities (e.g., capabilities beyond those indicated in the initial context establishment request). For example, the eNB can perform this determination based at least in part on which other RATs the UE supports, whether there are neighboring cells associated with these other RATs, etc.
[0107] As shown by reference numeral 340 in the attached figure, the eNB can provide a UE capability query to the UE 120. This UE capability query can request the UE's capabilities for a specific RAT type (e.g., 3G, LTE, 5G / NR, etc.). As shown by reference numeral 350 in the attached figure, the UE can provide UE capability information (sometimes referred to herein as "capability information"). Capability information is information indicating the UE's capabilities. This capability information is not necessarily exhaustive. For example, in some scenarios described elsewhere in this document, the UE may also be associated with capabilities other than those reported in the UE capability information. In some aspects, the UE capability information may include capability information for a specific RAT type within a UE capability RAT container. Typically, UE capability information can be sent within a capability container.
[0108] As shown by reference numeral 360, the eNB may store information indicating UE capability information during the UE's Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection state. The eNB may generate a message indicating the UE's capabilities based at least in part on the UE capability information. In some aspects, this message may include a UERadioAccessCapabilityInformation message, etc. In some aspects, the message may not include capability information associated with a specific RAT (e.g., for LTE capability information, the message may not include UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) capability information). As shown by reference numeral 370, the eNB may provide the MME with a UE capability information indication. For example, the UE capability information indication may include a UERadioAccessCapabilityInformation message. As shown by reference numeral 380, the MME may store the UE capability information until an event such as UE disconnection or reattachment occurs.
[0109] When a UE's latest capabilities for all RATs match the latest capabilities reported to the network, the UE's capabilities are considered synchronized with the network (e.g., MME or eNB). If the UE has changed its E-UTRAN radio access capabilities, the UE can send a TAU (Tracking Area Update) indicating an update to its radio capabilities, which results in the UE's radio access capabilities being updated using a new RRC connection. Asynchrony of capability information between the UE and the network can lead to invalid configurations or, due to reconfiguration verification failures, signaling associated with invalid configurations (e.g., Radio Link Failure (RLF) signaling, etc.).
[0110] In mobility scenarios where the source and destination telecom nodes (e.g., Node B, eNB, next-generation eNB (ng-eNB), or gNB) cannot synchronize UE capability information (e.g., radio capability information), the source and destination nodes may have different UE capability information (e.g., radio capability information). This could result in invalid configuration due to the UE and network having different up-to-date capability contexts, leading to reconfiguration verification failure. In other cases, such as when the network does not initiate a UE capability query based at least in part on the UE's TAU with a radio capability update indication (or does not request all required RATs in the query), capability information between the UE and network may become out of sync due to capability mismatch. The following section combines... Figure 4-6 Examples of asynchronous capability information that lead to invalid configurations are described in more detail. The techniques and apparatus described herein mitigate the asynchronous access stratum (AS) capabilities between the UE and the network, thereby reducing the likelihood of invalid configurations by the network during frequency band configuration.
[0111] In some cases, asynchronous capabilities may occur for intra-LTE or inter-RAT mobility, where the network configures LTE carrier aggregation, Multiple RAT Dual Connectivity (MRDC), NR CA, or NR DC band combinations for the UE that were not advertised in the UE's latest capability information but were advertised in previous capability information (leading to a mismatch in capability information between the source and target networks). This LTE CA or MRDC / NR CA / NR DC configuration results in invalid UE configuration or RLF, impacting call quality, call drop rate, and user experience. The techniques and apparatus described herein can avoid invalid configuration when receiving LTE CA or MRDC / NR CA / NR DC configurations from the network, for example, in situations where the network inadvertently configures LTE CA or MRDC / NR CA / NR DC combinations that the UE did not advertise during the most recent capability exchange. It should be noted that the techniques and apparatus described herein can also be applied to various other forms of band configuration, as described in more detail elsewhere herein.
[0112] Some of the technologies and apparatus described herein relate to carrier aggregation (CA). CA provides a UE with a way to communicate using more than one carrier frequency. The UE and the network can use CA to increase bandwidth, thereby increasing the network's bit rate. To implement CA, the network adds, modifies, or deletes one or more secondary component carriers (SCCs), while the primary component carrier (PCC) typically only changes during handover. Signaling associated with CA can occur via the PCC. The PCC can be considered the primary carrier in any group. The PCC may include a primary downlink carrier and an associated uplink primary component carrier. Parameters such as SCellToAddModList or SCellToAddModListExt can indicate which SCCs to add, modify, or delete. The UE can report capability information indicating what type of CA (e.g., a specific combination of frequency bands supported by the UE) can be configured for that UE. A frequency band combination is two or more frequency band groups on which component carriers can be configured. For example, E-UTRAN can initiate a request in the RRC_CONNECTED state regarding... Figure 3 This describes the UE capability transfer process. Some wireless communication specifications may impose limits on the number of frequency band combinations a UE can report. Examples of frequency band combination limits include 128, 256, or 384 frequency band combinations. In some cases, frequency band combinations may be referred to as frequency band configurations in this document. The number of frequency band combinations a UE should report can be indicated through a capability query. The number of frequency band combinations supported by a UE may exceed the number reported in the UE capability information. For example, from a radio frequency (RF) and RRC perspective, some UEs may support more than 5500 LTE independent CA frequency band combinations.
[0113] As indicated above, Figure 3 Examples are provided. Other examples can be found in the reference. Figure 3 The examples provided are different.
[0114] Figure 4-6 These are examples 400, 500, and 600 illustrating configurations associated with frequency band configurations outside of the UE's signaling capabilities.
[0115] Figure 4-6 This demonstrates how invalid configurations occur because the UE uses recent signaling capability information to determine whether the frequency band configuration for network signaling is within the UE's capabilities.
[0116] Figure 4 Example 400 related to mobility within a RAT is shown. Specifically, Figure 4 It involves mobility within LTE, but regarding Figure 4 The described operations can be applied to mobility within any RAT. As shown in the figure... Figure 4 This includes LTE cell A and LTE cell B. LTE cell A and LTE cell B can be provided by the same base station (e.g., the same eNB) or different base stations (e.g., different eNBs). Figure 4 In this scenario, the UE initially camps on LTE cell A. As shown by reference numeral 410, the UE can send an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access (EUTRA) capability container indicating 384 frequency band combinations, based at least in part on a capability query received from the camped LTE cell A. In some aspects, this capability container can indicate 384 frequency band combinations based at least in part on capability information requesting 384 frequency band combinations. As shown by reference numeral 420, the UE can reselect to LTE cell B, and LTE cell B can also perform a capability query different from the capability query in LTE cell A. For example, in some cases, such as when LTE cell B cannot accept the size of the capabilities offered by LTE cell A, the capability information present in LTE cell A cannot be transmitted to LTE cell B.
[0117] As shown by reference numeral 430, the UE can send an AS capability container indicating 128 frequency band combinations. As shown by reference numeral 440, the UE can camp on LTE cell A again. As shown by reference numeral 450, LTE cell A can be configured with a frequency band configuration (e.g., frequency band combinations such as CA combinations) indicated by first capability information (with 384 frequency band combinations) instead of second capability information (with 128 frequency band combinations). However, the UE can use the most recently sent capability information to determine whether the configured frequency band configuration is within the UE's capabilities. Since the second capability information does not indicate the configured frequency band combinations, the UE can determine that it is out of sync, and therefore the UE can declare an invalid configuration (e.g., RLF) (as shown by reference numeral 460), which degrades network performance, reduces throughput, and impacts user experience.
[0118] As a more specific example, a UE can camp on LTE cell A, and the network (NW) can perform EUTRA capability queries using requestedFrequencyBands-r11. The UE can implement DL CAT 20 by advertising up to 5 DLCA band combinations. The NW can perform a handover to LTE cell B. The NW can perform a new capability query on LTE cell B without requestedFrequencyBands-r11. According to wireless communication standards such as 3GPP specification 36.331, the UE can clear previously advertised EUTRA capability containers and can provide another set of 128 CA combinations in the EUTRA container, at least in part, based on capability queries from LTE cell B. The UE can implement DL CAT 19 by advertising up to 4 DLCA band combinations. The NW can configure CA band combinations advertised in the first capability information instead of the second capability information. Therefore, the UE may trigger an RLF because the CA combinations configured for LTE cell A are not advertised in the second capability information.
[0119] Figure 5 Example 500 related to inter-RAT mobility is shown. Specifically, Figure 5 This involves mobility from LTE cell A to NR cell B, but regarding... Figure 5 The described operations can also be applied to mobility within any RAT. As shown in the figure... Figure 5 This includes LTE cell A and NR cell B. LTE cell A and NR cell B can be provided by the same base station or by different base stations. Figure 5In this scenario, the UE initially camps on LTE cell A. As shown by reference numeral 510, the UE can send an EUTRA capability container indicating 384 frequency band combinations, based at least in part on capability queries received from the camped LTE cell A. In some aspects, this capability container can indicate 384 frequency band combinations, based at least in part on capability information requesting 384 frequency band combinations. As shown by reference numeral 520, the UE can move to NR cell B, and NR cell B can also perform capability queries different from those in LTE cell A. For example, in some cases, capability information present in LTE cell A cannot be transmitted to NR cell B.
[0120] As shown by reference numeral 530, the UE can send an EUTRA capability container indicating 128 frequency band combinations. As shown by reference numeral 540, the UE can camp on LTE cell A again. As shown by reference numeral 550, LTE cell A can be configured with a frequency band configuration (e.g., a frequency band combination such as a CA combination) indicated by first capability information (with 384 frequency band combinations) instead of second capability information (with 128 frequency band combinations). However, the UE can use the most recently sent capability information to determine whether the configured frequency band configuration is within the UE's capabilities. Since the second capability information does not indicate the configured frequency band combinations, the UE can determine that it is out of sync, and therefore the UE can declare an invalid configuration (e.g., RLF) (as shown by reference numeral 560), which degrades network performance, reduces throughput, and impacts user experience.
[0121] Figure 6 Example 600 related to a single cell is shown. As shown in the figure... Figure 6This includes LTE cells, although the operation of Example 600 applies to any RAT. As shown by reference numeral 610, the UE can send an EUTRA capability container indicating 384 frequency band combinations based at least in part on a first capability query received from the LTE cell. In some aspects, the capability container can indicate 384 frequency band combinations based at least in part on the first capability query requesting 384 frequency band combinations. As shown by reference numeral 620, the UE can receive a second capability query from the LTE cell that differs from the first capability query. As shown by reference numeral 630, the UE can send an EUTRA capability container indicating 128 frequency band combinations. As shown by reference numeral 640, the LTE cell can configure a frequency band configuration (e.g., a frequency band combination such as a CA combination) indicated by the first capability information (with 384 frequency band combinations) instead of the second capability information (with 128 frequency band combinations). However, the UE can use recently sent capability information to determine whether the configured frequency band configuration is within the UE's capabilities. Since the second capability information does not indicate the configured frequency band combination, the UE can determine that the UE is out of sync, and the UE can therefore declare an invalid configuration (e.g., RLF) (as shown in the attached figure 650), which reduces network performance, reduces throughput, and affects user experience.
[0122] As indicated above, Figure 3-6 Examples are provided. Other examples can be found in the reference. Figure 3-6 The examples described are different.
[0123] As described above, a UE may trigger an invalid configuration when the LTE CA, MRDC, NR DC, or NR CA configured by the network is not part of the latest capability container exchanged between the UE and the network. For example, the NW may or may not know the latest capabilities of all the UE's RATs. Invalid configurations, and the RLF associated with them, negatively impact call quality, drop rates, and user experience, and may lead to repeated invalid configurations and cell bans. These issues may also occur in non-CA-based band configurations, as described elsewhere in this document. Another situation that could lead to an asynchrony between the UE's capability report and the capability information stored by the network could include the UE updating the AS capabilities of its RAT (container) and sending a TAU request with radio capability updates to the NW, then waiting for the NW to request capability synchronization for the UE. An asynchrony may occur between the UE and the NW if the NW does not perform a UE capability query. Furthermore, during mobility, a lack of capability information at the target eNB (if capability information exists at the MME) or a lack of capability information at the MME (if the eNB fails to transmit received capability information to the MME) could also lead to an asynchrony. Different eNB releases, failure to upgrade the eNB to support updated information elements of the capability container, and network configuration errors (e.g., the UE capability is synchronized with the NW, but due to an NW error, the NW configuration is not part of the advertised capability's LTE CA or MRDC / NR CA / NR DC band combination) can also cause other problems.
[0124] Another issue may arise due to the asynchrony of UE capabilities caused by the introduction of E-UTRA-NR Dual Connectivity (ENDC) or NR DC. For example, a UE may camp on LTE cell A, and the NW may perform an EUTRA capability query using requestedFrequencyBands-r11. The NW may then initiate a handover to an LTE cell B with NR capabilities in connected mode. After already camping on an LTE cell B with NR capabilities, the NW may perform another capability query using requestedFreqBandsNR-MRDC-r15 instead of requestedFrequencyBands-r11 to request the UE's MRDC capabilities. Therefore, the UE may clear the first EUTRA capability container, and the UE may provide another set of CA combinations in the EUTRA container based on the capability query. The NW may configure an SCC (e.g., a secondary cell) that is not part of the second capability information. Consequently, the UE may trigger an invalid configuration (e.g., RLF) because the configured CA combination was not advertised in the most recent capability container.
[0125] Some of the techniques and apparatus described herein can determine whether a frequency band combination is compatible with a UE's capabilities, regardless of whether the latest capability information transmitted by the UE indicates that frequency band combination. For example, a UE can accept any frequency band configuration it supports (e.g., for communication based at least in part) even if the capability information transmitted by the UE does not indicate that frequency band combination. For example, a UE can accept all LTE CA, MRDC, or NR CA configurations it supports, even if they are not part of the latest capability information transmitted by the UE. These techniques and apparatus described herein can be applied to any CA combination (e.g., including LTE Standalone (SA), MRDC frequency band combinations, NR frequency band combinations, etc.). For example, a UE may not be limited to the CA combinations advertised by NW regarding acceptance of MRDC, NR CA, or NRDC configurations.
[0126] In some respects, acceptance and / or communication based at least in part on any frequency band configuration supported by the UE can be based at least in part on the UE being in a relaxed mode, wherein the relaxed mode is a mode in which the UE determines whether the frequency band configuration is compatible with the UE's capabilities, regardless of whether the latest capability information sent by the UE indicates such a frequency band configuration. The relaxed mode can contrast with another mode in which the UE determines whether a frequency band configuration is compatible with the UE's capabilities based at least in part on whether the latest capability information sent by the UE indicates such a frequency band configuration. In some respects, the UE can always be in a relaxed mode. For example, if the UE supports the obtained configured CA frequency band combination, the UE may never trigger an invalid configuration of the NW for the LTE CA, MRDC, NR DC, or NR CA configuration to the NW. This also applies to scenarios where the UE capabilities of all RATs are already synchronized with the NW.
[0127] Some of the techniques and apparatus described herein can modify the reporting of UE capabilities (e.g., associated with the frequency band configuration) at least in part based on the UE's currently configured frequency band configuration. For example, the network can query the UE's capabilities (e.g., through a capability query). The UE can report its currently configured frequency band configuration in the first position or the first N positions (where N is an integer) of the UE capability information message. Therefore, even if the UE's capability information message has insufficient positions for all frequency band configurations of the UE, the UE ensures that it signals the currently configured frequency band configuration to the base station.
[0128] Figure 7 This is a diagram illustrating an example implementation 700 of frequency band configuration within and outside the signaling capabilities of the UE, based on various aspects of this disclosure. For example, Figure 7 The signaling associated with the implementation of frequency band combination is shown. As shown in the figure, Figure 7This includes UEs (e.g., UE 120) and BSs (e.g., BS 110). BS 110 can provide one or more cells associated with one or more RATs.
[0129] As shown by reference numeral 710 in the attached figure, the UE can send capability information to the BS. In some aspects, the UE can send capability information based at least in part on capability queries from the BS, as described in more detail elsewhere herein. In other aspects, the UE can send capability information via RRC signaling, etc.
[0130] As shown in the figure, this capability information can indicate the set of frequency band configurations supported by the UE. Frequency band configuration includes any information about the capabilities associated with the frequency bands that can be transmitted via the capability information. In some aspects, the frequency band configuration can indicate the set of frequency band combinations supported by the UE (e.g., CA configuration) (e.g., associated with LTE CA, MRDC, NR DC, NR CA, etc.). In some aspects, the frequency band configuration can indicate the baseband configuration of a carrier or frequency band. For example, the frequency band configuration can indicate a MIMO configuration for one or more frequency bands (e.g., 4-layer (4L) MIMO configuration, full-duplex MIMO (FD-MIMO) configuration, rank associated with the MIMO configuration, etc.). As another example, the frequency band configuration can indicate a modulation scheme such as UL256QAM, DL256QAM, or DL1024QAM. In some aspects, the frequency band configuration can indicate non-CA configurations, such as single-band capabilities. For example, the frequency band configuration can indicate the number of layers supported by the frequency band. In some aspects, the frequency band configuration can indicate another form of configuration (whether or not associated with a frequency band). Some of the techniques and apparatus described herein can be applied to any feature supported by a UE, whether or not the feature is associated with a band combination or band configuration.
[0131] As shown by reference numeral 720 in the attached figure, the BS can transmit information indicating a frequency band configuration. For example, the BS can configure a frequency band configuration for the UE. In some aspects, this frequency band configuration may include frequency band configurations not indicated by capability information. For example, a frequency band configuration may be selected from a set of frequency band configurations indicated by previous capability information. As another example, the frequency band configuration may be determined, for example, using capability information as input, based at least in part on the UE's signaling capability. The frequency band configuration signaled by the BS can include any form of frequency band configuration, such as a band combination, a baseband frequency band configuration, a non-CA frequency band configuration, etc.
[0132] As indicated by reference numeral 730, the UE can determine that the capability information shown by reference numeral 710 does not indicate the frequency band configuration. For example, the UE can determine that the frequency band configuration signaled by the BS is not identified by the most recent (e.g., most recent) capability information sent by the UE. This could be due to various reasons, which are described in more detail elsewhere herein. In some respects, the UE may not perform such a determination. For example, the UE can continue with the operation shown by reference numeral 740 even when it is uncertain whether the capability information indicates the frequency band configuration, thus saving processing resources.
[0133] As indicated by reference numeral 740 in the accompanying drawings, the UE can determine whether it supports the frequency band configuration for signal notification by the BS. For example, the UE can determine whether it supports the frequency band configuration regardless of whether the capability information (e.g., recently transmitted capability information) shown by reference numeral 710 indicates the frequency band configuration. In some aspects, the UE can perform this determination at least in part based on a mode referred to herein as the lenient mode, as described elsewhere herein.
[0134] As shown by reference numeral 750 in the attached figure, the UE can communicate according to a frequency band configuration. In some aspects, the UE can accept a frequency band configuration. In some aspects, the UE can transmit or receive communications at least partially based on the frequency band configuration. In some aspects, the UE can implement and / or use a CA configuration or baseband frequency band configuration indicated by the frequency band configuration. In some aspects, the UE can communicate via one or more carriers indicated by the frequency band configuration. In some aspects, if a carrier in a CA combination is advertised as having two-layer (2L) MIMO capability, and the NW (due to asynchrony or incorrect configuration) configures the UE to have 4L MIMO capability, then the UE can accept the configuration if it supports it. In some aspects, if a single-band capability is advertised as having 2L capability, and the NW configures the UE to have 4L capability, then the UE can accept the configuration if the configured frequency band can support 4L.
[0135] Therefore, the UE can determine whether the band configuration is valid for the UE, at least in part, based on the UE's capabilities (e.g., regardless of the latest capability information signaled by the UE, or after determining that the latest capability information does not identify the band configuration). This increases the UE's versatility, reduces the possibility of invalid configurations, increases throughput, reduces call drops, improves call quality, increases handover success rate, and improves reliability.
[0136] As indicated above, Figure 7 Examples are provided. Other examples can be found in the reference. Figure 7 The examples described are different.
[0137] Figure 8This is a diagram illustrating an example implementation 800 of frequency band configuration within and outside the signaling capabilities of the UE, based on various aspects of this disclosure.
[0138] As shown by reference numeral 810 in the attached diagram, the UE can receive band configuration from the NW (e.g., BS 110). As shown in box 820, the UE can determine whether the last advertised capability (e.g., the most recently sent capability information) indicates the band configuration. If the last advertised capability information indicates the band configuration (box 820: Yes), the UE can accept the band configuration and can send a configuration completion message to the NW (e.g., if configuration was successful) (box 840). If the last advertised capability does not indicate the band configuration (box 820: No), the UE can determine whether it supports this band configuration (box 830). If the band configuration is successful (box 830: Yes), the UE can proceed to box 840. If the band configuration is unsuccessful, the UE can declare an invalid configuration (box 850).
[0139] As indicated above, Figure 8 Examples are provided. Other examples can be found in the reference. Figure 8 The examples described are different.
[0140] Figure 9 This is a diagram illustrating an example implementation 900 of frequency band configuration within and outside the signaling capabilities of the UE, based on various aspects of this disclosure. Figure 9 This involves the configuration of CA combinations beyond the latest capability information indicated by the UE.
[0141] As shown by reference numeral 910 in the attached figure, the UE can receive a first UE capability query from the NW (e.g., BS 110, core network equipment, etc.). As shown by reference numeral 920 in the attached figure, the UE can provide UE capability information based at least in part on the first UE capability query. For example, the UE capability information can indicate 384 frequency band combinations based on the first UE capability query.
[0142] As shown by reference numeral 930 in the attached figure, the UE can receive a second UE capability query. As shown by reference numeral 940 in the attached figure, the UE can provide UE capability information based at least in part on the second UE capability query. For example, the UE capability information can indicate 128 frequency band combinations based on the second UE capability query.
[0143] As shown by reference numeral 950 in the attached figure, the NW can configure CA combinations for the UE. The first UE capability information may indicate this CA combination, while the second UE capability information may not. This can occur for various reasons, which are described in more detail elsewhere in this document.
[0144] As shown by reference numeral 960 in the attached figure, the UE can accept CA combinations and can apply the configured CA combinations without declaring an invalid configuration. For example, the UE can perform actions regarding... Figure 7 and Figure 8 The described operation determines whether the configured CA combination is within the UE's capabilities (e.g., supported by the UE), regardless of whether the UE capability information shown in reference numeral 940 indicates the configured CA combination. Therefore, the UE can communicate, at least in part, based on the configured CA combination.
[0145] As indicated above, Figure 9 Examples are provided. Other examples can be found in the reference. Figure 9 The examples described are different.
