[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This disclosure claims priority to the Chinese application filed with the China Patent Office on July 26, 2022, with application number 202210884106.7; and the Chinese application filed with the China Patent Office on August 24, 2022, with application number 202222238768.5, the entire contents of which are incorporated by reference into this disclosure. Technical Field
[0003] The present disclosure relates to the field of display technology, and more specifically, to a full-color display device. Background Art
[0004] Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) offer advantages such as high brightness, fast response, and high stability, and are widely used in visible light communications, automotive headlights, and backlight display devices. MicroLEDs (Micro Light Emitting Diodes) are a new generation of display technology. With micron-scale dimensions, typically less than 100 microns, MicroLEDs possess many characteristics distinct from larger LEDs, such as high current density, high output optical power density, and wide optoelectronic modulation bandwidth.
[0005] MicroLED is used in the field of display technology and needs to be able to achieve full-color display. The traditional color display method is to achieve full-color display by combining red, green and blue LED units on the display panel. However, the epitaxial manufacturing of this method is more difficult, and the driving circuit is more complicated. The red, green and blue LEDs have different operating voltages and attenuation rates, making it difficult to ensure the consistency of light color, and the three-color transfer yield is low. In order to circumvent the above problems, a monochrome MicroLED can be used to excite sub-pixels to generate red, green and blue light to achieve full-color display of the display device. However, the light emitted by the monochrome MicroLED is non-collimated light, which easily excites adjacent sub-pixels to emit light, causing color crosstalk, which in turn leads to problems of impure display color and reduced display color gamut in full-color display devices.

[0047] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, after the full-color display device is started, it can directly enter the display interface of the last selected signal source, or the signal source selection interface, where the signal source can be a preset video on demand program, or at least one of an HDMI interface, a live TV interface, etc. After the user selects a different signal source, the display can display content obtained from different signal sources.
[0048] Some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a full-color display device, as shown in Figures 5 to 14, comprising a light processing structure, a pixel substrate 2 and a backlight module 3. The pixel substrate 2 includes a plurality of sub-pixels 21. The backlight module 3 includes a plurality of light-emitting structures 31; the light-emitting structures 31 are arranged in a one-to-one correspondence with the sub-pixels 21. In the following, if at least part of the light-emitting structures in the plurality of light-emitting structures 31 is referred to as a first light-emitting structure; for any first light-emitting structure, the sub-pixel corresponding to the first light-emitting structure is referred to as a first sub-pixel, and at least part of the light-emitting structures in the plurality of light-emitting structures except the first light-emitting structure is referred to as the second light-emitting structure. Then for any first light-emitting structure, the light processing structure is used to prevent the light generated by the second light-emitting structure from being emitted from the light-emitting direction of the first sub-pixel.
[0049] The present disclosure sets a light processing structure to prevent the light generated by the second light-emitting structure from emitting from the light emitting direction of the first sub-pixel, thereby reducing or avoiding the problem of pixel color crosstalk in full-color display devices and improving color purity.
[0050] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in Figures 5 to 9, the light-emitting structure 31 includes a backlight bead 311. The light processing structure includes multiple polarization modules 11. For any polarization module, the polarization module 11 includes a selection function structure 111 and a polarization processing structure 112. The polarization module 11 is located between the pixel substrate 2 and the backlight bead 311, and the selection function structure 111 is located on the side of the polarization processing structure 112 adjacent to the pixel substrate 2. The backlight bead 311, the polarization module 11, and the sub-pixels 21 in the pixel substrate 2 are arranged in a one-to-one correspondence.
[0051] 5 to 9 only show three backlight beads 311, three polarization modules 11, and three sub-pixels 21. The specific number of backlight beads 311, polarization modules 11, and sub-pixels 21 can be set according to the actual display requirements of the full-color display device and is not limited here.
[0052] As shown in Figures 5 to 9, the polarization processing structure 112 is used to process the light emitted by the corresponding backlight lamp bead 311 into a first polarized light. The selective function structure 111 is used to pass the first polarized light corresponding to the polarization processing structure 112 and block the second polarized light. The second polarized light has a polarization direction different from the first polarized light. The polarization directions of the first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 are different. Figure 8 illustrates an implementation of an embodiment of the present disclosure, in which the solid curved arrow represents the first polarized light and shows that the first polarized light can be left-handed polarized light or right-handed polarized light.
[0053] The natural light emitted by the backlight lamp bead 311 is processed by the polarization processing structure 112 to form a first polarized light. The first polarized light is irradiated onto the selection function structure 111. The selection function structure 111 corresponding to the polarization processing structure 112 can transmit the first polarized light and block the second polarized light with a direction different from the first polarized light. The first polarized light is irradiated onto the corresponding sub-pixel 21 after passing through the selection function structure 111 and the glass substrate 22 in the pixel substrate 2 (in some embodiments shown in Figures 7 to 9). The first polarized light excites the sub-pixel 21 to emit light, thereby realizing color display.
[0054] In order to avoid the problem of optical crosstalk between adjacent sub-pixels 21, the directions of the first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 are set to be different. In a certain embodiment of the present disclosure, the first polarized light corresponding to the first sub-pixel 21 from the left in FIG8 can be right-handed polarized light, the first polarized light corresponding to the second sub-pixel 21 from the left can be left-handed polarized light, and the first polarized light corresponding to the third sub-pixel 21 from the left can be right-handed polarized light. As a result, left-handed polarized light can pass through the selection function structure 111 corresponding to the second sub-pixel 21 from the left in FIG8 . When the right-handed polarized light corresponding to the sub-pixels on both sides propagates at a large angle to the selection function structure 111 corresponding to the second sub-pixel 21, the selection function structure 111 corresponding to the second sub-pixel 21 reflects the right-handed polarized light, preventing it from exciting the second sub-pixel 21 in the pixel substrate 2. Similarly, right-handed polarized light can pass through the selection function structures 111 corresponding to the first and third sub-pixels 21 from the left in FIG8 . When the left-handed polarized light corresponding to the second sub-pixel propagates at a large angle to the selection function structures 111 corresponding to the sub-pixels 21 on both sides, the selection function structures 111 corresponding to the sub-pixels 21 on both sides reflect the left-handed polarized light, preventing it from exciting the sub-pixels 21 in the pixel substrate 2. This can prevent the second polarized light from exciting the sub-pixels 21 and causing optical crosstalk between adjacent sub-pixels 21. It should be noted that the specific direction of the first polarized light and the specific correspondence between the directions of the sub-pixels 21 and the first polarized light can be set according to the actual use of the full-color display device and are not limited here. It is sufficient to ensure that the directions of the first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 are different.
[0055] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in Figures 6-9, a black matrix 23 is provided between adjacent sub-pixels 21. The sub-pixels 21 can be arranged in a matrix. The black matrix 23 can be in a grid shape and is provided in the region between adjacent sub-pixels 21 to define the sub-pixels and also to prevent the problem of color mixing and crosstalk between the light emitted by adjacent sub-pixels 21 after the sub-pixels 21 are excited by the first linearly polarized light, thereby helping to improve display contrast and color purity. It should be noted that the specific working principle of the black matrix 23 is well known to those skilled in the art and will not be elaborated here.
[0056] Some embodiments of the present disclosure utilize the polarization processing structure 112 in the polarization module to process the light emitted by the backlight lamp bead 311 into the first polarized light. The selection function structure 111 corresponding to the polarization processing structure 112 passes the first polarized light and blocks the second polarized light having a polarization direction different from the first polarized light. The polarization directions of the first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 are different. Therefore, the first polarized light in some embodiments of the present disclosure will not pass through the selection function structure 111 to excite the adjacent sub-pixels 21 to emit light, thereby causing the problem of color crosstalk, thereby improving the chromaticity purity and display color gamut of the full-color display device.
[0057] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in Figures 5 to 9, the selection function structure 111 is located on the surface of the pixel substrate 2 facing the backlight lamp beads 311, and the polarization processing structure 112 is located on the surface of the backlight lamp beads 311 facing the pixel substrate 2.
[0058] As shown in Figures 5 to 9, the surface of the backlight bead 311 facing the pixel substrate 2 is provided with a polarization processing structure 112. Natural light emitted by the backlight bead 311 is converted into first polarized light after passing through the polarization processing structure 112. The surface of the pixel substrate 2 facing the backlight bead 311 is provided with a selection function structure 111. The corresponding first polarized light is transmitted to the selection function structure 111, which passes the first polarized light through it, causing the first polarized light to excite the sub-pixels 21 in the pixel substrate 2, achieving color display. When second polarized light with a different direction from the corresponding first polarized light is transmitted to the selection function structure 111 at a large angle, the selection function structure 111 reflects the second polarized light, preventing the second polarized light from exciting the sub-pixels 21 and causing optical crosstalk.
[0059] Figure 8 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a full-color display device according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in Figure 8 , the polarization processing structure 112 includes a first linear polarization structure 1121 and a circular polarization structure 1122. The first linear polarization structure 1121 is located on the side of the circular polarization structure 1122 adjacent to the backlight bead 311. The first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 is left-handed polarized light and right-handed polarized light, respectively.
[0060] As shown in FIG8 , in order to convert the natural light emitted by the backlight lamp bead 311 into the first polarized light, a polarization processing structure 112 can be provided that includes a first linear polarization structure 1121 and a circular polarization structure 1122. The first linear polarization structure 1121 is located on the side of the circular polarization structure 1122 adjacent to the backlight lamp bead 311. The natural light emitted by the backlight lamp bead 311 is first converted into the first linear polarization light by the first linear polarization structure 1121. After the first linear polarization light is perpendicularly incident on the circular polarization structure 1122, the circular polarization structure 1122 converts the first linear polarization light into circular polarization light and emits it as the first polarized light. With the clockwise direction as the positive angle, when the direction of the first linear polarization light is 45 degrees to the optical axis of the circular polarization structure 1122, the resulting first polarization light is right-handed polarized light. When the direction of the first linear polarization light is -45 degrees to the optical axis of the circular polarization structure 1122, the resulting first polarization light is left-handed polarized light.
[0061] Therefore, by setting the first linear polarization structure 1121 and the circular polarization structure 1122 in the polarization processing structure 112, the directions of the first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 can be different. For example, the first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels is left-handed polarized light and right-handed polarized light, respectively. Referring to the principle description above, light crosstalk between adjacent sub-pixels 21 is avoided.
[0062] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG8 , the first linear polarization structure 1121 is a linear polarizer or a metal grating structure, the circular polarization structure 1122 is a quarter wave plate, and the selective functional structure 111 is a holographic optical functional film.
[0063] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG8 , the first linear polarization structure 1121 is, for example, a linear polarizer, which can be a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film layer. The main components of the PVA film layer are light atoms such as carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and have characteristics such as high transparency and ductility, good iodine adsorption, and easy film formation. Taking an iodine-based PVA film as an example, the PVA molecular chains before treatment are randomly distributed, and the iodine molecules adsorbed on the PVA film are also disorderly. After the PVA film is stretched and oriented, the iodine molecules on it are also distributed in an orderly manner. The directional arrangement of the iodine molecules reduces the light absorption in the thickness direction of the PVA film perpendicular to the stretching direction, thereby generating linearly polarized light. In other embodiments of the present disclosure, the first linear polarization structure 1121 can also be a metal grating. Metal grating structures have advantages such as small size, thin thickness, easy integration, and excellent performance. The metal plasma effect of the metal grating can be used to generate linearly polarized light.
[0064] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the circular polarization structure 1122 may be a quarter-wave plate. The quarter-wave plate is a birefringent single-crystal wave plate of a certain thickness. When linearly polarized light is perpendicularly incident on the quarter-wave plate and the polarization of the light forms an angle θ with the optical axis of the quarter-wave plate, the emitted linearly polarized light becomes elliptically polarized light. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, when the angle θ between the linearly polarized light and the optical axis of the quarter-wave plate is set to 45 degrees, the emitted first polarized light is right-handed polarized light; when the angle θ between the linearly polarized light and the optical axis of the quarter-wave plate is set to -45 degrees, the emitted first polarized light is left-handed polarized light.
[0065] The selective functional structure 111 may be, for example, a holographic optical functional film. The holographic optical functional film can be used to alter the transmission characteristics of light, thereby selectively transmitting first polarized light in a predetermined direction. The holographic optical functional films corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 may transmit first polarized light in different directions. For example, the holographic optical functional films corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 may transmit left-handed polarized light as the first polarized light, while the other holographic optical functional film may transmit right-handed polarized light as the first polarized light, thereby preventing optical crosstalk between adjacent sub-pixels 21.
[0066] Figure 9 is a schematic cross-sectional view of another full-color display device according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, unlike the structure shown in Figure 8, as shown in Figure 9, the polarization processing structure 112 includes a second linear polarization structure 1123. The first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 is vertically polarized light and horizontally polarized light, respectively. The solid double arrows in Figure 9 represent the polarization direction of the first polarized light, and the broad arrows from bottom to top represent the light emission direction of the backlight bead 311. The terms "vertical" and "horizontal" in vertically polarized light and horizontally polarized light refer to being perpendicular or horizontal relative to the light emission direction of the backlight bead 311. Horizontally polarized light refers to polarized light with a polarization direction parallel to the plane in which the light emission direction of the backlight bead 311 lies, i.e., polarized light oriented 360° in the plane shown in Figure 6. Vertically polarized light refers to polarized light with a polarization direction perpendicular to the plane in which the light emission direction of the backlight bead 311 lies, i.e., polarized light oriented perpendicular to the plane shown in Figure 2. These can be represented by dots or crosses.
[0067] As shown in FIG9 , the second linear polarization structure 1123 processes the natural light emitted by the backlight lamp bead 311 into linearly polarized light and then uses it as the first polarized light. The directions of the first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 are different, and the first polarized light corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 can be vertically polarized light and horizontally polarized light, respectively. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the first polarized light corresponding to the first sub-pixel 21 from the left in FIG9 can be horizontally polarized light, the first polarized light corresponding to the second sub-pixel 21 from the left can be vertically polarized light, and the first polarized light corresponding to the third sub-pixel 21 from the left can be horizontally polarized light. As a result, the vertically polarized light can pass through the selection function structure 111 corresponding to the second sub-pixel 21 from the left in FIG9 . When the horizontally polarized light corresponding to the sub-pixels on both sides propagates at a large angle to the selection function structure 111 corresponding to the second sub-pixel 21, the selection function structure 111 corresponding to the second sub-pixel 21 reflects the horizontally polarized light, preventing it from exciting the second sub-pixel 21 in the pixel substrate 2. Similarly, horizontally polarized light can pass through the selection function structures 111 corresponding to the first and third sub-pixels 21 from the left in Figure 9 . When the vertically polarized light corresponding to the second sub-pixel propagates at a large angle to the selection function structures 111 corresponding to the sub-pixels 21 on either side, the selection function structures 11 corresponding to the sub-pixels 21 on either side reflect the vertically polarized light, preventing it from exciting the second sub-pixel 21 in the pixel substrate 2. This prevents the second polarized light from exciting the sub-pixel 21 and causing optical crosstalk between adjacent sub-pixels 21.
[0068] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG9 , horizontal linear polarized light can be set to be perpendicular to the light emitting direction of the backlight lamp bead 311. The vertical and horizontal in vertical linear polarized light and horizontal linear polarized light refer to vertical or horizontal relative to the light emitting direction of the backlight lamp bead 311. Horizontal linear polarized light is polarized light whose polarization direction is parallel to the plane where the light emitting direction of the backlight lamp bead 311 is located, that is, polarized light in a 360° direction in the plane shown in FIG9 . As shown in FIG9 , taking the first sub-pixel 21 from the left as an example, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, horizontal linear polarized light is set to be perpendicular to the light emitting direction of the backlight lamp bead 311. Compared with horizontal linear polarized light in other directions, the horizontal linear polarized light perpendicular to the light emitting direction of the backlight lamp bead 311 has the highest light output rate emitted by the pixel substrate 2, thereby improving the display effect of the full-color display device.
[0069] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG9 , the second linear polarization structure 1123 is a first linear polarizer, the selective functional structure 111 is a second linear polarizer, and the first and second linear polarizers in the polarization module 11 have the same polarization direction.
[0070] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG9 , the first and second linear polarizers within the same polarization module 11 have the same polarization direction, allowing linearly polarized light with the same polarization direction to pass through the first and second linear polarizers within the same polarization module 11. The first and second linear polarizers in different polarization modules 11 have different polarization directions, thereby avoiding optical crosstalk between adjacent polarization modules 11. In some embodiments of the present disclosure, when the linearly polarized light emitted by the first linear polarizer within the polarization module 11 is horizontally polarized, the second linear polarizer within the polarization module 11 is configured to pass horizontally polarized light. When the linearly polarized light emitted by the first linear polarizer within the polarization module 11 is vertically polarized, the second linear polarizer within the polarization module 11 is configured to pass vertically polarized light. The first and second linear polarizers may be polyvinyl alcohol films. The specific principle by which the polyvinyl alcohol films convert natural light emitted by the backlight beads 311 into linearly polarized light can be understood by referring to the corresponding content above and is not further described here.
[0071] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG9 , the functional structure 111 is selected to be a metal grating structure. As shown in FIG9 , in order to improve the light extraction efficiency of the backlight lamp bead 311, a metal grating structure can be set as the second linear polarization structure 1123. 70% of the natural light emitted by the backlight lamp bead 311 can be converted into linearly polarized light by the metal grating structure, thereby improving the light extraction efficiency of the backlight lamp bead 311. At the same time, the functional structure 111 is set to be a metal grating structure. When the sub-pixel 21 is excited by the first linearly polarized light, part of the light is emitted from the pixel substrate 2, while part of the light is also propagated in the direction away from the light emission direction of the pixel template, becoming the backlight emitted by the sub-pixel 21. The metal grating structure can reflect the backlight, change the propagation path of the backlight, and make the backlight be emitted from the pixel template, thereby improving the light utilization efficiency of the full-color display device.
[0072] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in Figures 10 to 14, the full-color display device further includes: a transparent substrate 4. The backlight module 3 further includes a backlight substrate 32, and the backlight substrate 32 is located on the backlight side of the light-emitting structure 31. The transparent substrate 4 is located on the side of the pixel substrate 2 away from the light-emitting structure 31. The sub-pixels 21 include at least red sub-pixels, green sub-pixels, and blue sub-pixels. The light processing structure includes a first filter layer 12, and the first filter layer 12 is located between the transparent substrate 4 and the red sub-pixels and the green sub-pixels. The first filter layer 12 forms a hollow area corresponding to the position of the blue sub-pixel. The blue sub-pixel contacts the transparent substrate 4 through the hollow area. The first filter layer 12 is used to transmit red light and green light and reflect blue light.
[0073] FIG10 to FIG14 only show three light-emitting structures 31 and three sub-pixels 21. The specific number of the light-emitting structures 31 and the sub-pixels 21 can be configured according to the actual display requirements of the full-color display device, and the present disclosure does not limit this.
[0074] As shown in Figures 10 to 14, a plurality of sub-pixels 21 are provided between the backlight module 3 and the transparent substrate 4. The sub-pixels 21 may be, for example, red sub-pixels, green sub-pixels, and blue sub-pixels. A first filter layer 12 is provided between the transparent substrate 4 and the red and green sub-pixels. The first filter layer 12 may be configured to transmit red and green light and reflect blue light. In one embodiment of the present disclosure, when the light emitted by the light-emitting structure 31 is, for example, blue light, when the blue light irradiates the red sub-pixel, it may stimulate red light, and when the blue light irradiates the green sub-pixel, it may stimulate green light. The red and green light pass through the first filter layer 12 and the transparent substrate 4 and are emitted outward. The blue light emitted by the light-emitting structure 31 that irradiates the first filter layer 12 is reflected by the first filter layer 12, thereby avoiding crosstalk between light of different colors and improving color purity.
[0075] In the prior art, as shown in FIG15 , a color filter (CF) 8 is usually provided between the red sub-pixel and the transparent substrate 4 to allow red light to pass through, and a color filter 8 is provided between the green sub-pixel and the transparent substrate 4 to allow green light to pass through. However, the filtering effect of the color filter 8 is poor, and the manufacturing process of the full-color display device is more complicated.
[0076] In order to solve this problem, some embodiments of the present disclosure set the first filter layer 12 as an integral molding, and form a hollow area at the position of the blue sub-pixel in the first filter layer 12 corresponding to the blue sub-pixel. The blue sub-pixel contacts the transparent substrate 4 through the hollow area. When the light emitted by the light-emitting structure 31 irradiates the blue sub-pixel, blue light is stimulated, and the blue light is emitted outward through the transparent substrate 4. This simplifies the manufacturing process while ensuring that the blue sub-pixel emits blue light normally.
[0077] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the transparent substrate 4 is a substrate that is transparent to red, green, and blue light, and can be partially transparent or fully transparent. The dimension of the transparent substrate 4 in the direction parallel to the backlight substrate 32 is comparable to the dimension of the full-color display device in the direction parallel to the backlight substrate 32, and is determined by the array size, with a thickness of approximately 10 microns to approximately 600 microns. The transparent substrate 4 can play a role in protecting and supporting the device, and has one or more characteristics such as but not limited to scratch resistance, scratch resistance, shatter resistance, heat resistance, flexibility, conductivity and / or electrical resistance, providing polarized light filtering and / or coloring. The transparent substrate 4 can be made of materials such as sapphire, quartz glass, glass, etc., which are not limited here. The backlight substrate 32 is used to provide a driving signal to the light-emitting structure 31, and can be a circuit board, a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) substrate, or a thin film field effect transistor (TFT) substrate. The backlight substrate 32 can have a certain degree of reflectivity to improve the light extraction efficiency of the full-color display device.
[0078] Some embodiments of the present disclosure utilize a first filter layer 12 disposed between a transparent substrate 4 and red and green sub-pixels, transmitting red light emitted from the red sub-pixel position and green light emitted from the green sub-pixel position, and reflecting blue light emitted from the red and green sub-pixel positions, thereby avoiding crosstalk between light of different colors and improving color purity. The blue sub-pixel is disposed in contact with the transparent substrate 4 in a hollow area formed in the first filter layer 12 corresponding to the position of the blue sub-pixel, thereby simplifying the manufacturing process while ensuring the normal emission of blue light.
[0079] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in Figures 12 to 14, the light processing structure also includes: a blocking wall layer 13, the blocking wall layer 13 is filled between the first filter layer 12 and the backlight substrate 32 and forms a plurality of accommodating cavities 131, the accommodating cavities 131 are used to accommodate sub-pixels 21 and the light-emitting structure 31, and a reflective layer 132 is provided on the inner wall of the accommodating cavity 131.
[0080] As shown in FIG15 , existing full-color display devices are provided with light-blocking walls 9 and black matrices 23 between adjacent sub-pixels 21 to define the sub-pixels 21 and prevent crosstalk between adjacent sub-pixels 21 after the sub-pixels 21 are excited by light emitted by the light-emitting structure 31. However, the light-blocking walls 9 and black matrix 23 are typically made of resin materials, which have a significant absorption effect on light, resulting in a certain amount of light loss and increased heat accumulation, which accelerates the degradation rate of quantum dots.
[0081] To address this issue, as shown in Figures 12 to 14, some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a barrier layer 13 filled between the first filter layer 12 and the backlight substrate 32. The accommodating cavity 131 formed by the barrier layer 13 can be used to accommodate the sub-pixel 21 and the light-emitting structure 31. The barrier layer 13 can be made of, for example, photoresist or imprinted adhesive. A reflective layer 132 is provided on the inner wall of the accommodating cavity 131. The reflective layer 132 can be used to reflect the light emitted by the light-emitting structure 31. When part of the light emitted by the light-emitting structure 31 hits the reflective layer 132, the reflective layer 132 reflects the light, and the reflected light hits the sub-pixel 21, stimulating the sub-pixel 21 to emit light of the corresponding color.
[0082] The reflective layer 132 can be fabricated by evaporating a metal film or embossing a polymer material with a high reflectivity. The thickness of the reflective layer 132 ranges from approximately 1 nanometer to 4 microns, for example. Compared to traditional black matrix structures that absorb light, the reflective layer 132 provided in some embodiments of the present disclosure can reflect light, preventing crosstalk while reducing heat accumulation caused by light absorption, thereby reducing quantum dot degradation and improving light utilization.
[0083] In the prior art, as shown in FIG15 , the substrate does not need to be replaced when manufacturing the display device. Therefore, the opening size of the position where the cavity 131 is closer to the substrate is smaller than or equal to the size of the position where the cavity 131 is farther from the substrate, which facilitates the manufacturing and processing of the sub-pixel 21. However, this will affect the emission of light emitted by the light-emitting structure 31 and the light extraction efficiency.
[0084] To address this issue, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG. 12 to FIG. 14 , the opening size of the accommodating cavity 131 close to the first filter layer 12 is larger than the opening size of the accommodating cavity 131 close to the backlight substrate 32 .
[0085] As shown in Figure 11, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, when manufacturing a full-color display device, a first substrate is first provided, a barrier layer 13 is fabricated on the first substrate, and a reflective layer 132 is fabricated on the inner wall of the accommodating cavity 131 formed by the barrier layer 13. After the first substrate and a second substrate having the first filter layer 12 are aligned and bonded together, the first substrate is removed and the sub-pixels 21 are then filled. Due to the replacement of the substrate, the opening size of the accommodating cavity 131 near the first filter layer 12 can be set larger than the opening size of the accommodating cavity 131 near the backlight substrate 32 during the manufacturing process, thereby improving the light extraction efficiency.
[0086] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG. 12 to FIG. 14 , the difference between the opening size of the accommodating cavity 131 close to the backlight substrate 32 and the size of the light emitting structure 31 is smaller than a preset value.
[0087] As shown in Figures 12 to 14, in order to facilitate the rapid alignment of the light-emitting structure 31 with the sub-pixel layer 21 and facilitate integration, the opening size of the accommodating cavity 131 close to the backlight substrate 32 can be set to be slightly larger than the size of the light-emitting structure 31, so that the light-emitting structure 31 can be accurately placed in the accommodating cavity 131. And it corresponds one-to-one with the sub-pixel 21 to avoid the problem of position deviation between the light-emitting structure 31 and the sub-pixel 21, which affects the light output efficiency. In a certain embodiment of the present disclosure, the size of the light-emitting structure 31 is, for example, 90 microns, and the opening size of the backlight substrate 32 can be, for example, 100 microns. The difference between the opening size of the accommodating cavity 131 close to the backlight substrate 32 and the size of the light-emitting structure 31 is less than a preset value, for example, 15 microns. It should be noted that the specific size of the preset value can be set according to the actual production requirements of the full-color display device and is not limited here.
[0088] If the light-emitting structure 31 is arranged adjacent to the sub-pixel 21, the light-emitting structure 31 will emit a certain amount of heat during the light-emitting process. When the heat is transferred to the sub-pixel 21, the quantum dots in the sub-pixel 21 will be degraded, affecting the display effect and life of the full-color display device.
[0089] To address this issue, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in Figures 5 to 9 and 12 to 14 , a predetermined distance is provided between the sub-pixel 21 and the light-emitting structure 31 in a direction perpendicular to the backlight substrate 32. This separation is achieved by separating the sub-pixel 21 from the light-emitting structure 31 (or, in the case of Figures 5 to 9 , the backlight lamp beads 311 ) with other film structures and / or gaps. These other film structures and / or gaps provide thermal insulation, thereby preventing the heat emitted by the light-emitting structure 31 from causing degradation of the quantum dots in the sub-pixel 21, thereby extending the lifespan of the quantum dots and the full-color display device, and improving the display quality of the full-color display device.
[0090] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the portion of the sub-pixel 21 and the light-emitting structure 31 spaced a preset distance apart may further include the previously described polarization module 11 (not shown in the figure). Since the film structure also conducts some heat, in order to improve the heat insulation effect of the sub-pixel on the backlight beads, a gap of a preset thickness may be further included. The gap may be located at any reasonable position between the light-emitting structure 31 and the sub-pixel 21, such as in the polarization module 11, between the polarization module 11 and the light-emitting structure 31, or between the polarization module 11 and the sub-pixel 21, etc., and no further restrictions are imposed here.
[0091] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in Figures 13 and 14, a passivation deposition layer 5 is formed on the surface of the sub-pixel 21 near the light-emitting structure 31. The passivation deposition layer 5 is used to isolate water and oxygen to prevent the quantum dots in the sub-pixel 21 from being affected by environmental factors such as water and oxygen. The passivation deposition layer 5 can be made of oxides such as silicon dioxide, aluminum nitride, aluminum oxide, aluminum oxynitride, etc. prepared by vacuum evaporation, magnetron sputtering, atomic layer deposition, or plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), or can be made of one or more of encapsulating protective glue such as epoxy resin. The dimension of the passivation deposition layer 5 parallel to the transparent substrate 4 is the same as the dimension of the sub-pixel 21 parallel to the transparent substrate 4, and can be slightly larger than the dimension of the light-emitting structure 31 parallel to the transparent substrate 4. The thickness of the passivation deposition layer 5 is, for example, between about 1 nanometer and 2 microns.
[0092] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG14 , a second filter layer 6 is formed on one side of the passivation deposition layer 5 behind the ion pixel 21 . The second filter layer 6 is configured to transmit blue light and reflect red and green light.
[0093] When the light-emitting structure 31 emits blue light, the blue light enters the sub-pixel 21 through the second filter layer 6, stimulating the sub-pixel 21 to emit light of the corresponding color; when the stimulated red light or green light does not pass through the first filter layer 12 and the transparent substrate 4 to be emitted outward, but is reflected to the second filter layer 6, the second filter layer 6 can reflect the red light or green light, so that the green light or red light passes through the first filter layer 12 and the transparent substrate 4 to be emitted, thereby improving the light output efficiency of the full-color display device.
[0094] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, as shown in FIG. 10 to FIG. 14 , the first filter layer 12 is a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) filter layer.
[0095] As shown in Figures 10 to 14, the distributed Bragg reflective filter layer is generally a periodic thin film composed of alternating high-refractive index materials and low-refractive index materials. For example, it can be formed by repeatedly stacking two materials with different refractive indices, silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide. By adjusting the refractive index and thickness of the distributed Bragg reflective filter material, the reflectivity of the distributed Bragg reflective filter layer can be increased to over 95%, or even 100%. During the initial design phase, the distributed Bragg reflective filter layer can have a higher reflectivity in the blue light band (420 nm to 480 nm) and a lower reflectivity in the green light band (500 nm to 580 nm) and the red light band (600 nm to 700 nm). In other words, the distributed Bragg reflective filter layer can reflect blue light while passing red and green light. The dimension of the distributed Bragg reflective filter layer parallel to the transparent substrate 4 is the same as that of the full-color display device parallel to the transparent substrate 4. It can be determined by the array size and has a thickness between approximately 200 nm and 3 microns. The distributed Bragg reflective filter layer can have a single-stack structure, a multi-stack structure, or a gradient structure. It should be noted that the material constituting the distributed Bragg reflective filter layer may be one or a combination of, but not limited to, silicon oxide, titanium oxide, hafnium oxide, magnesium fluoride, yttrium oxide, zinc sulfide, zirconium oxide and silicon nitride, and is not limited here.
[0096] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the sub-pixel 21 includes at least a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, and a blue sub-pixel.
[0097] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, adjacent sub-pixels 21 correspond to different luminous colors.
[0098] In other embodiments of the present disclosure, the luminous colors corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 may be the same.
[0099] As shown in Figure 15 , the color of a conventional liquid crystal display device is achieved through a color filter (CF) 8. This conventional color filter comprises red, green, and blue photoresists arranged in a specific order. When light emitted from a backlight passes through the red, green, and blue photoresists, only light corresponding to the red, green, and blue wavelengths is allowed to pass through, thereby converting the backlight light into red, green, and blue light. However, conventional color filter 8 suffers from poor light utilization and low transmittance. Furthermore, conventional color filter materials have a broad transmission peak, resulting in limited color density and difficulty achieving a wide color gamut. Consequently, these filters no longer meet the display quality requirements of users for full-color display devices.
[0100] In order to improve the display effect of the full-color display device, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, the red sub-pixel includes a red quantum dot (Quantum Dot Color Conversion, QDCC) sub-pixel, the green sub-pixel includes a green quantum dot sub-pixel, and the blue sub-pixel includes a blue quantum dot sub-pixel or a blue dispersant sub-pixel.
[0101] In order to improve the display effect of full-color display, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, sub-pixels 21 can be arranged in a certain order as red quantum dot sub-pixels, green quantum dot sub-pixels, and blue quantum dot sub-pixels, and the luminescent colors corresponding to adjacent sub-pixels 21 are different. The quantum dot material used in the sub-pixels 21 in some embodiments of the present disclosure has the advantages that its luminescence peak has a small half-maximum width, and the luminescent color can be easily adjusted by the size, structure or composition of the quantum dot material. Therefore, its application in full-color display devices can effectively improve the color saturation and color gamut of the full-color display device. When the first linear polarized light is incident on the red quantum dot sub-pixel, it can excite red light. When the first linear polarized light is incident on the green quantum dot sub-pixel, it can excite green light. When the first linear polarized light is incident on the blue quantum dot sub-pixel, it can excite blue light. Compared with traditional color filters, the use of sub-pixels with quantum dots of different colors can greatly widen the color gamut, improve light utilization, and enhance display brightness and transmittance.
[0102] Quantum dot sub-pixels can be filled using methods such as inkjet printing, atomization spraying, spin coating, and photolithography. Quantum dot materials can include perovskite quantum dots, cadmium selenide colloidal quantum dots, zinc sulfide, zinc selenide, cadmium selenide, indium phosphide, selenium sulfide, lead sulfide, indium arsenide, calcium phosphide, and calcium arsenide. Red quantum dots emit light in the range of 600 to 700 nanometers, green quantum dots in the range of 490 to 580 nanometers, and blue quantum dots in the range of 400 to 480 nanometers. The thickness of the quantum dots ranges from approximately 1 to 50 micrometers.
[0103] In addition, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, when the light emitted by the light-emitting structure 31 is blue light, the blue sub-pixel can be set as a blue dispersant sub-pixel, and the blue dispersant can modulate the light, for example, uniformly distribute and scatter the light, so that the properties of the light emitted through the blue dispersant sub-pixel are the same as the properties of the light emitted through the red quantum dot sub-pixel and the green quantum dot sub-pixel.
[0104] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, in conjunction with Figures 5 to 14, the light-emitting structure 31 (for Figures 5 to 9, that is, the backlight lamp bead 311) includes a blue light MicroLED. The blue light emitted by the blue light MicroLED can excite the red quantum dot sub-pixel to emit red light, can excite the green quantum dot sub-pixel to emit green light, and can excite the blue quantum dot sub-pixel to emit blue light, or the blue light can be emitted outward through the blue dispersant sub-pixel. By using sub-pixels in combination with blue light MicroLEDs, the functions of red, green, and blue sub-pixels emitting red, green, and blue light respectively are achieved. In addition, compared with green light MicroLED and red light MicroLED, blue light MicroLED has lower cost and more mature epitaxial growth process. In addition, compared with using green light to excite blue-red quantum dot sub-pixels or red light to excite blue-green quantum dot sub-pixels, the excitation efficiency of using blue light to excite red and green quantum dot luminescent materials is higher. Compared with traditional color filters composed of colored photoresist, it avoids the problem of low three-color transfer yield and inconsistent efficiency of red, green and blue colors, widens the color gamut, improves light utilization, and enhances display brightness and transmittance.
[0105] It should be noted that some embodiments of the present disclosure do not limit whether the full-color display device is a flexible display device. For example, some embodiments of the present disclosure can be applied to curved screens.
[0106] For ease of explanation, the above description has been presented in conjunction with specific embodiments. However, the above discussion is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the embodiments to the specific forms disclosed above. Based on the above teachings, various modifications and variations are possible. The above embodiments have been selected and described to better explain the principles and practical applications, thereby enabling those skilled in the art to better utilize the embodiments and various variations of the embodiments suitable for specific use considerations.
