AI Technical Summary
In traditional rechargeable batteries, the heat from the current collector cannot be effectively dissipated, leading to localized heating and uneven temperature distribution, which affects battery life. Furthermore, the low thermal conductivity of the insulation structure prevents heat from escaping naturally.
The structure employs a combination of an insulating frame and a heat-conducting component. The insulating frame is made of materials such as polyamide, polyethylene, and polypropylene, while the heat-conducting component is composed of silicon-based or acrylic-based heat-conducting materials and fills the cavity of the insulating frame. It is used to connect the current collector plate and the cover plate to achieve heat transfer and dissipation.
It effectively transfers heat from the current collector plate to the outside, reducing localized heating and uneven temperature, and improving the lifespan and safety of the secondary battery.

Abstract
Description
[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This application claims priority to and the benefit of Korean Patent Application No. 2023-0112498 filed in the Korean Intellectual Property Office on August 28, 2023, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Technical Field
[0003] Aspects of some embodiments of the present disclosure relate to secondary batteries. Background Art
[0004] Unlike primary batteries that cannot be charged, secondary batteries are batteries that can be charged and discharged. Low-capacity secondary batteries in which one battery cell is packaged in the form of a group are used for small portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and video cameras. In addition, large-capacity secondary battery modules in battery pack units in which dozens of battery packs are connected are widely used as motor drive power sources in hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, etc.
[0005] The secondary battery can be configured by inserting a separator between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate to embed the stacked or wound electrode assembly and the electrolyte into the housing and mounting the cover assembly to the housing. The secondary battery has a structure in which the terminal and the electrode assembly mounted on the cover assembly are electrically connected by a current collector. High temperature is generated in the current collector having a current collecting function, which causes local heating, which causes the temperature of the components to increase significantly and causes uneven temperature in the stack, which affects the life of the secondary battery. In addition, the electrolyte may evaporate due to the high temperature. Therefore, a measure that can solve the temperature rise of the current collector is needed.
[0006] For example, in a conventional secondary battery, an insulating structure is provided for insulating between a current collector and a cap assembly, and the insulating structure is generally formed of a non-conductive plastic material. Because the insulating structure of the plastic material has no electrical conductivity and also has low thermal conductivity, heat cannot naturally escape to the outside.
[0007] The information described above disclosed in the background of the present disclosure is only for enhancement of understanding and therefore may include information that does not constitute related art. Summary of the invention
[0008] The present disclosure is directed to providing a secondary battery capable of effectively dissipating heat of a current collector plate to the outside.
[0009] However, the technical objectives to be solved by the present disclosure are not limited to the aspects described above, and other aspects not mentioned can be clearly understood by those skilled in the art from the description of the present disclosure disclosed below.
[0010] A secondary battery according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure includes: an electrode assembly; a collector plate electrically connected to the electrode assembly; a shell configured to accommodate the electrode assembly and the collector plate; a cover plate coupled to the shell; and an insulating member between the cover plate and the collector plate, wherein the insulating member includes an insulating frame and a thermally conductive member fixed by the insulating frame.
[0011] The insulation frame may define a cavity passing through upper and lower surfaces of the insulation frame.
[0012] The insulating frame may have a ring shape in a plan view.
[0013] The thermally conductive member may fill the cavity.
[0014] A thickness of the insulation frame and a thickness of the thermal conduction member may be substantially the same.
[0015] The insulation frame may further include a cover plate configured to cover one surface of the insulation frame, and may define a cavity from the one surface to another surface of the insulation frame opposite to the one surface.
[0016] The thermally conductive member may fill the cavity to cover the cover plate.
[0017] The cover plate may have a thickness of about 0.5 mm to about 3 mm.
[0018] The insulating frame may define a plurality of cavities separated from each other.
[0019] The thermally conductive member may include a plurality of thermally conductive material members respectively inserted into the plurality of cavities.
[0020] The thermally conductive member may include one or more of a silicone-based thermally conductive material, an acrylic-based thermally conductive material, and a mixture thereof.
[0021] The insulating frame may include one or more of polyamide (PA), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and mixtures thereof.
[0022] The secondary battery may further include a terminal contacting and welded to the current collector plate and exposed through the cap plate.
[0023] The current collector plate may include: an electrode connecting portion welded to an uncoated portion of the electrode of the electrode assembly and extending along a side surface of the electrode assembly; and a terminal connecting portion, one end of which is connected to an upper end of the electrode connecting portion and the other end of which is connected to the terminal.
[0024] The insulating member may be between the terminal connection portion of the current collector plate and the cap plate.
[0025] The insulating member may define a through hole passing through an upper surface and a lower surface of the insulating member, wherein the terminal is coupled to the terminal connection portion of the current collector plate through the cap plate and the through hole of the insulating member.
[0026] The terminal may include: a terminal plate on the cap plate; and a terminal column coupled to the terminal connection portion through the cap plate and the insulating member and coupled to the terminal plate on an upper side of the cap plate.
[0027] An upper surface of the insulating member may contact a lower surface of the cap plate, and a lower surface of the insulating member may contact an upper surface of the current collector plate. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

A lower portion of the first terminal column 141 may be fitted into a terminal hole of the first collector plate 120 to be riveted and / or welded.
[0063] The second terminal 150 is formed of a conductive material such as nickel, etc., and is electrically connected to the second current collector plate 130. The second terminal 150 may include a second terminal column 151 and a second terminal plate 152. Since the shape of the second terminal 150 is substantially the same as that of the first terminal 140, overlapping descriptions will be omitted.
[0064] The case 160 is formed of a conductive metal such as aluminum, an aluminum alloy, or nickel-plated steel, and may be formed in a substantially hexahedral shape having an opening through which the electrode assembly 110, the first collector plate 120, and the second collector plate 130 may be inserted and seated. The cap plate 170 may be coupled to the opening of the case 160 to seal the case 160. [0065] A sealing gasket 171 may be provided to seal between the first terminal plate 142 and the cap plate 170 and between the first terminal column 141 and the cap plate 170, and similarly, a sealing gasket 172 may be provided to seal between the second terminal plate 152 and the cap plate 170 and between the second terminal column 151 and the cap plate 170. The sealing gaskets 171, 172 are formed of an insulating material and may be formed to have electrical insulation and sealing functions. The sealing gaskets 171, 172 reduce or prevent external moisture from penetrating into the interior of the secondary battery 100 or the electrolyte contained in the secondary battery 100 from leaking to the outside.
[0066] The first insulating member 180 may be provided for electrical insulation and heat transfer between the first terminal connection portion 122 of the first collector plate 120 and the cap plate 170. The second insulating member 190 may be disposed between an upper surface of the second terminal connection portion 132 of the second current collector plate 130 and a lower surface of the cap plate 170 corresponding to the upper surface of the second terminal connection portion 132.
[0067] The first insulating member 180 may include an insulating frame 181 and a thermally conductive member (e.g., a thermally conductive material member) 182. The insulating frame 181 may include or be formed of a plastic material having high electrical insulation properties (such as polyamide (PA), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and mixtures thereof, etc.). The thermally conductive member 182 may be formed of a thermally conductive material (thermal interface material (TIM)) having a relatively high thermal conductivity, for example, may include or be formed of a thermally conductive material (such as a silicone-based thermally conductive material, an acrylic-based thermally conductive material, and mixtures thereof, etc.). In one or more embodiments, the thermally conductive member 182 may be fixed by the insulating frame 181.
[0068] Since the first insulating member 180 includes the thermally conductive member 182 having appropriate heat transfer performance, the heat of the first collector plate 120 concentrating heat may be naturally transferred to the cap plate 170 through the thermally conductive member 182 , and, for example, heat may be naturally dissipated.
[0069] refer to Figure 4 , the insulating frame 181 may include or define a cavity 186 that accommodates the thermally conductive member 182. The thermally conductive member 182 may fill the cavity 186 of the insulating frame 181. In one or more embodiments, the insulating frame 181 may have an annular shape surrounding the thermally conductive member 182 in a plan view. In one or more embodiments, the thermally conductive member 182 may include a through hole 185 that passes through the upper and lower surfaces of the thermally conductive member 182, and the first terminal column 141 described above of the first terminal 140 passes through the through hole 185. For example, the thermally conductive member 182 may be formed by applying a liquid type thermally conductive material in the insulating frame 181 and then by curing the liquid type thermally conductive material. The thickness of the insulating frame 181 may be substantially the same as that of the thermally conductive member 182 .
[0070] The second insulating member 190 may have a structure similar to the first insulating member 180 , and may include an insulating frame 191 and a thermal conductive member 192 .
[0071] Figure 5 is a perspective view of an insulating member of a secondary battery according to one or more other embodiments of the present disclosure, and Figure 6 is an example Figure 5 The insulating frame and the heat conducting member of the insulating member are separated from each other. The insulating member 280 can replace Figures 1 to 3 1 and 2. The first insulating member 180 and the second insulating member 190 of the secondary battery shown in FIG.
[0072] refer to Figure 5 and Figure 6, the insulating member 280 includes an insulating frame 281 and a thermally conductive member 282. In some embodiments, the thermally conductive member 282 may include a plurality of thermally conductive material members 282. The insulating frame 281 may define or be formed with a plurality of separated cavities 285, and a plurality of thermally conductive material members 282 are provided and respectively inserted into the plurality of cavities 285. Figure 7 and Figure 8 , the insulating member 380 may include an insulating frame 381 and a thermally conductive member 382. The insulating frame 381 may include a cavity 386 into which the thermally conductive member 382 is inserted, and the insulating frame 381 may be provided with a cover plate 385 covering one surface of the insulating frame 381. In some embodiments, the cavity 386 may have a groove shape provided in a direction from another surface of the insulating frame 381 (which is an opposite surface to the one surface) to the one surface.
[0074] In some embodiments, a through hole 387 through which the first terminal column 141 of the first terminal 140 passes may be formed in the cover plate 385. In addition, the thermally conductive member 382 may have a through hole 388 through which the first terminal column 141 of the first terminal 140 passes. [0075] The cover plate 385 may have a thickness in the range of about 0.5 mm to about 3 mm. Since heat dissipation may not be appropriate if the thickness of the cover plate 385 is too thick, the cover plate 385 is designed to have a thickness that can naturally dissipate heat and ensure structural strength.
[0076] The secondary battery according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure may effectively dissipate heat of the current collector plate by disposing an insulating member including a thermally conductive member having high thermal conductivity between the current collector plate and the cap plate.
[0077] However, aspects that can be obtained through the present disclosure are not limited to those described above, and other aspects that are not mentioned can be clearly understood by those skilled in the art from the description of the present disclosure described above.
[0078] The above description is only for executing one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the present disclosure is not limited to the above, and as required by the claims, the technical spirit of the present disclosure will be deemed to enable any technician in the field to make various modifications without departing from the main points of the present disclosure.
