Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE), the method generally including receiving, from a network entity, signaling indicating at least a first channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS) mode, the first channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS) mode indicating a CSI-RS resource, wherein the first CSI-RS pattern indicates a lower density of CSI-RS resources in a channel frequency range than the second CSI-RS pattern; updating a machine learning (ML) model based on the first CSI-RS pattern; generating, using the updated ML model, CSI for the channel frequency range based on measurements by the UE according to the first CSI-RS pattern; and sending a report indicating the CSI of the channel frequency range to the network entity.
