[0008] The present disclosure relates generally to visitor interactive displays. More specifically, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a system and method for providing feedback to a visitor interacting with a display.

[0009] One or more specific embodiments of the present disclosure will be described below. In order to provide a concise description of these embodiments, all features of the actual implementation may not be described in the specification. It should be recognized that in the development of any such actual implementation, as in any engineering or design project, many implementation-specific decisions must be made to achieve the developer's specific goals, such as compliance with system-related and business-related constraints, which may vary from one implementation to another. In addition, it should be recognized that such development work may be complex and time-consuming, but it is still a routine task of design, construction, and manufacturing for ordinary technicians who benefit from this disclosure.

[0010] When introducing elements of various embodiments of the present disclosure, the articles "a," "an," and "the" are intended to mean that there are one or more of the elements. The terms "comprising," "including," and "having" are intended to be inclusive, and mean that there may be additional elements other than the listed elements. Additionally, it should be understood that references to "one embodiment" or "an embodiment" of the present disclosure are not intended to be interpreted as excluding the existence of additional embodiments that also incorporate the recited features.

[0011] Current embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to systems and methods for providing feedback to visitors interacting with an interactive display. For example, the disclosed systems and methods include a transparent display panel or screen configured to mimic window glass. The window glass may be part of a window frame on a display case. The transparent display panel may be an organic light emitting diode (OLED) screen or a projection screen associated with a projection system (e.g., a rear projection screen). The disclosed systems and methods include a motion tracking device located behind the transparent display panel. The motion tracking device is configured to track or trace the movement of a device (e.g., a sword, a key, a cane, a stick, or any other device that can be pointed toward the transparent display panel) pointed in front of the transparent display panel by a user (e.g., a visitor) manipulating the device. In some embodiments, the device may emit light (e.g., infrared (IR) light) tracked by a motion tracking device (e.g., an IR tracking device). In some embodiments, IR retroreflection may be utilized, wherein the motion tracking device emits IR, the device reflects IR, and the motion tracking device tracks the reflected IR. In some embodiments, near field communication (NFC) may be used between the tracking device and the device manipulated by the user. In some embodiments, radio frequency identification (RFID) may be used between the tracking device and a device used between the tracking device and the device manipulated by the user. The transparent display panel is configured to display feedback indicating the tracking or tracking movement of the device. In some embodiments, the feedback may be displayed on the transparent display panel in real time (i.e., as the user manipulates the device). The feedback provided about the movement of the device helps provide guidance to the user (e.g., a visitor) to manipulate the device to generate special effects for the interactive display. Therefore, the disclosed system and method can avoid any frustration of visitors due to the interactive display. In addition, the disclosed system and method make the interactive display more attractive to visitors.

[0012] Figure 11 is a schematic diagram of a system 10 for providing feedback to a visitor interacting with an interactive display and a device 12 (e.g., a pointing device) for use with the interactive display. System 10 may be incorporated into an interactive display. The interactive display may be part of a display case. The interactive display may be located at an amusement park or entertainment venue. The interactive display may be associated with a particular theme. In some embodiments, the interactive display may be a kiosk, or may be located in a retail store that is not at an amusement park or entertainment venue. Examples of locations may be a shopping mall or an airport.

[0013] A user (e.g., a visitor) interacts with the interactive display, and thus with the system 10, by utilizing a device 12 (e.g., a toy sword, key, cane, stick, or other type of pointing device). In particular, the user manipulates the device 12 (while pointing it at the interactive display) according to a particular pattern or movement to generate a special effect in the interactive display in response to correctly performing the movement. In some embodiments, the device 12 includes an emitter 14 for emitting light (e.g., IR) (e.g., located at the end of the device that can be pointed at the interactive display). In some embodiments, the device 12 may reflect light (e.g., IR) emitted by a motion tracking device 18 via a retroreflector. In some embodiments, the device 12 may include a plurality of tactile actuators 16 (e.g., vibration actuators) to provide tactile feedback (e.g., in response to control signals from the system 10) about how the user should manipulate the device 12 to correctly perform the movement to generate the special effect in the interactive display.

[0014] The system 10 includes a motion tracking device 18 and a transparent display panel 20. The motion tracking device 18 is configured to track the movement of the device 12 directed in front of the transparent display panel 20 by a user manipulating the device 12. In some embodiments, the motion tracking light may track light (e.g., IR) emitted by the device 12. In some embodiments, the motion tracking device 18 may emit light (e.g., IR) that is reflected by the device 12 and then track the reflected light. In some embodiments, the device 12 and the motion tracking device 18 may utilize NFC. In some embodiments, the device 12 and the motion tracking device 18 may utilize RFID. In some embodiments, the device and the motion tracking device 18 may use other technologies to track the movement of the device 12. The transparent display panel 20 is configured to display feedback indicating the tracked movement of the device 12. In some embodiments, the feedback indicating the tracked movement of the device 12 is provided in real time (i.e., while the device 12 is being manipulated). In some embodiments, the transparent display panel 20 may provide a visual indicator of where to point the device 12 at the transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, the motion tracking device 18 may include a camera 22 for tracking light (e.g., IR) emitted or reflected by the device 12. In some embodiments, the camera 22 may be used to detect the angle at which the light (e.g., IR) is emitted or reflected from the device 12. In some embodiments, one or more additional cameras 24 may be used to detect the angle at which the light (e.g., IR) is emitted or reflected from the device 12. The angle at which the light (e.g., IR) is emitted or reflected (e.g., as detected by the camera 22 and / or multiple cameras 24) may be used to determine the position (e.g., height) along the transparent display panel 20 for providing feedback.

[0015] In some embodiments, the motion tracking device 18 includes one or more processors 26 and memory 28. In some embodiments, the one or more processors 26 and memory 28 may be part of a processing or computing device separate from the motion tracking device 18. The one or more processors 26 execute instructions contained in the memory 28. The memory 28 may store one or more patterns (e.g., correct patterns) associated with triggering one or more special effects of the interactive display via the detected movement of the device 12. The memory 28 may store instructions for tracking the movement of the device 12 and for providing feedback to the user on the transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, the memory 28 may store instructions for providing tactile feedback to the device 12. In some embodiments, the memory 28 may store instructions for detecting the angle at which light (e.g., IR) is emitted or reflected from the device 12 and determining the position (e.g., height) on the transparent display panel 20 where feedback should be provided to the visitor. The memory 28 may store instructions for providing one or more images related to the theme of the interactive display (e.g., simulation of frost or precipitation, moving animation, etc.) on the transparent display panel 20. Instructions may be loaded from a read-only memory (ROM), a mass storage device, or some other persistent storage into a random access memory (RAM) for execution by the processor 26. In other embodiments, hard-wired circuits may be used instead of or in combination with software instructions to implement the described functionality. For example, the processor 26 may be embodied as part of one or more application specific integrated circuits (ASICs). One or more processors 26 may generate control signals to components of the system 10 and / or device 12. For example, a control signal from the processor 26 (e.g., for tactile feedback) may be provided wirelessly to the device 12. The control signal from the processor 26 may be provided to the transparent display panel 20 via a wired or wireless connection.

[0016] The transparent display panel 20 is configured to mimic a window glass (e.g., of a window frame). In some embodiments, a plurality of transparent display panels 20 may form the window glass of a window frame. In some embodiments, the transparent display panel 20 may be an OLED screen. In this case, the motion tracking device 18 may be connected to the transparent display panel 20 via a wired or wireless connection. In some embodiments, the transparent display panel 20 may be a projection screen (e.g., a rear projection screen). When the transparent display panel 20 is a projection screen, the system 10 includes one or more projectors 30 for projecting (e.g., feedback related to tracking movement and any other items or images) on the projection screen. The motion tracking device 18 may be connected to the projector 30 via a wired or wireless connection.

[0017] In some embodiments of an interactive display having multiple transparent display panels 20, more than one transparent display panel 20 may be configured to display feedback indicating the tracked movement of the device 12. In some embodiments, the system 10 may include multiple motion tracking devices 18, wherein each motion tracking device 18 is configured to track the movement of a corresponding device 12 directed toward a corresponding transparent display panel 20 and cause feedback indicating the tracked movement to be displayed on the corresponding transparent display panel 20. Thus, in some embodiments, a visitor may use different devices 12 on different transparent display panels 20 of the interactive display (e.g., simultaneously), and the system 10 may track these devices separately and provide feedback to the corresponding visitor. In some embodiments, one or more display panels 20 or a portion of one or more display panels 20 may be layered to create a three-dimensional (3D) effect.

[0018] In some embodiments, the feedback displayed on the transparent display panel 20 is the actual pattern or path of the tracked movement of the device 12. In some embodiments, the actual (i.e., detected) pattern is displayed as it is generated by the device 12 (i.e., in real time) or after the pattern is completed (e.g., consistent with the position of the manipulator 12). In some embodiments, the actual pattern may be displayed as a continuous path (i.e., showing each point along the path of the tracked movement). In some embodiments, displaying the actual pattern includes displaying only some of the points (e.g., discrete points) along the path of the tracked movement. In some embodiments, the actual pattern is displayed according to color coding. For example, if the actual pattern is incorrect (will not induce special effects from the interactive display), it may be displayed in a first color (e.g., red), and if the actual pattern is correct (will induce special effects from the interactive display), it may be displayed in a different second color (e.g., green). In some embodiments, if the tracked movement is correct, a general pattern representing the correct movement of the device 12 may be shown on the transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, if the tracked movement is incorrect, a general pattern representing the correct movement of the device 12 may be shown to provide assistance. In some embodiments, the universal pattern may be shown after each incorrect attempt or after a set number of incorrect attempts (e.g., 2 or 3 incorrect attempts). In some embodiments, the universal pattern may be shown after a set period of time (e.g., 30 seconds or another set period of time) after the first attempt to correctly operate the device 12. In some embodiments, both the actual pattern and the universal pattern of correct movement may be displayed separately and / or simultaneously on the transparent display panel 20 to assist the visitor as the visitor attempts the pattern. In some embodiments, the universal pattern of correct movement may be etched in the transparent display panel 20 to provide guidance to the visitor operating the device 12.

[0019] As mentioned above, feedback and / or visual indicators of where the device 12 is pointed can be provided via the diodes of the OLED screen or via projection on the projection screen by the projector 30. In some embodiments, a light emitting device (LED) can be embedded in the transparent display panel 20 that can provide feedback indicating the tracking movement. The embedded LED can communicate with the motion tracking device 18. In some embodiments, the embedded LED is arranged according to a universal pattern representing the correct movement of the device. In some embodiments, the entire pattern will only light up when the movement of the device 12 is completed correctly. In some embodiments, each point along the universal pattern will light up when it is completed correctly. In some embodiments, the entire section of the universal pattern can be shown as completed correctly. In some embodiments, one or more discrete embedded LEDs can indicate one or more corresponding positions for pointing the device 12 to the transparent display panel 20.

[0020] Figure 2 Is has Figure 1 Schematic diagram of an interactive display 32 of system 10 in FIG. As depicted, interactive display 32 includes a display frame 34 (e.g., a window frame). In some embodiments, interactive display 32 may be part of a display case 35. Display frame 34 includes a plurality of transparent glass sheets 36 (e.g., window glasses). At least one transparent glass sheet 36 is as described above. Figure 1 In some embodiments, more than one transparent glass pane is a corresponding transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, each transparent glass pane 36 is a corresponding transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, the entire glass pane 36 (such as Figure 2 36 is a transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, the transparent display panel 20 forms only a portion of the glass sheet 36. In some embodiments, the transparent display panel 20 is an OLED screen. In some embodiments, the transparent display panel 20 is connected to one or more projectors 30 (such as Figure 1 A projection screen (eg, a rear projection screen) associated with the device.

[0021] Object 38 is located behind display frame 34. The number of objects 38 in display 32 can vary. In some embodiments, objects 38 can be used for decoration according to the theme used for interactive display 32. In some embodiments, object 38 can be the source of special effects in response to the correct movement of device 12. As depicted, object 38 is a can. Object 38 can be any type of object. Special effects can be movements caused in object 38 (e.g., rotation, shaking, etc.). In some embodiments, special effects can be something coming out of object 38. In some embodiments, special effects can be objects 38 changing appearance (e.g., stretching, cracking, etc.). In some embodiments, special effects in interactive display 32 can be separated from or unrelated to objects. For example, special effects can be changes in lighting or conditions in the interactive display, the appearance of something (e.g., smoke or objects) in the interactive display 32. The special effect can be something that appears on transparent display panel 20. For example, features related to the theme of interactive display 32 can appear on transparent display panel 20. These features may be animations or objects (e.g., vines, cracks, precipitation, frost, etc.) on the transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, the various objects or animations may appear on the transparent display panel 20 separately or independently from the special effects caused by the movement of the device 12 (e.g., related to the theme).

[0022] like Figure 1 As described in the figure, the interactive display 32 includes a motion tracking device 18 having a camera 22. The motion tracking device 18 is disposed behind the display frame 34. The motion tracking device 18 is configured to track the movement of the device 12 pointed in front of the transparent display panel 20 by the user 39 (e.g., a visitor) manipulating the device 12. As depicted in the figure, the device 12 is a toy sword. The appearance of the device 12 can be configured to be related to the theme of the interactive display 32 or the amusement park or entertainment venue where the interactive display 32 is located. The device 12 is used as a pointing device to point the device at the transparent display panel 20. As described above, in some embodiments, the interactive display 32 may include more than one motion tracking device 18. The interactive display 32 with more than one motion tracking device 18 enables tracking of multiple devices 12 relative to multiple transparent display panels 20 of the interactive display 32, so that multiple visitors can interact with the interactive display 32 at the same time. In some embodiments, each motion tracking device 18 may be dedicated to a specific transparent display panel 20 and / or a specific area of the transparent display panel 20 for tracking the movement of the device 12.

[0023] As depicted, the transparent display panel 20 includes a visible indicator 40 of the location at which the user points when the user 39 moves the device 12 according to the pattern 42 to produce a special effect in the interactive display 32. In some embodiments, the visible indicator 40 can be provided by emitting light from an LED embedded in the transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, the visible indicator 40 can be shown via the diode of an OLED screen or projected on a projection screen via a projector 30 (depending on the type of the transparent display panel 20). In some embodiments, the visible indicator 40 can be color-coded. In particular, when the device 12 is not pointing in the correct area (i.e., where the visible indicator 40 is located), the visible indicator 40 can display a first color (e.g., red), and when the device 12 is pointing in the correct area, the visible indicator 40 can display a second different color (e.g., green). In some embodiments, the visible indicator 40 can be a physical mark set on the transparent display panel 20 or embedded in the transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, the visible indicator 40 can be a mark on the transparent display panel 20.

[0024] As described above, the transparent display panel 20 is configured to display feedback indicating the tracking movement of the device 12. In particular, as indicated by reference numeral 44, a tracking pattern (e.g., a graph) of the movement (i.e., actual movement) of the device 12 is displayed on the transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. Figure 2 As depicted in FIG. 1 , feedback indicating the tracking movement of device 12 is provided in real time (i.e., while device 12 is being manipulated). In some embodiments, the pattern is displayed only after the movement of device 12 is complete. In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. Figure 2, the actual pattern may be displayed as a continuous path (i.e., showing each point along the path of the tracked movement). In some embodiments, displaying the actual pattern includes displaying only some of the points (e.g., discrete points) along the path of the tracked movement. In some embodiments, the actual pattern is displayed according to color coding. For example, if the actual pattern is incorrect (will not elicit special effects from the interactive display 32), it may be shown in a first color (e.g., red), and if the actual pattern is correct (will elicit special effects from the interactive display 32), it may be displayed in a different second color (e.g., green). In some embodiments, if the tracked movement is correct, a generic pattern representing the correct movement of the device 12 may be shown on the transparent display panel 20. In some embodiments, if the tracked movement is incorrect, a generic pattern representing the correct movement of the device 12 may be shown to provide assistance. In some embodiments, the generic pattern may be shown after each incorrect attempt or after a set number of incorrect attempts (e.g., 2 or 3 incorrect attempts). In some embodiments, the universal pattern may be shown after a set period of time (e.g., 30 seconds or another set period of time) after the attempt to correctly operate the device 12 is initiated.

[0025] In some embodiments, camera 22 (and / or additional cameras separate from device 12) may be used to detect the angle at which light (e.g., IR) is emitted or reflected from device 12. In some embodiments, one or more additional cameras 24 ( Figure 1 ) can be used to detect the angle of light (e.g., IR) emitted or reflected from the device 12. The angle of light (e.g., IR) emission or reflection (e.g., detected by the camera 22 and / or multiple cameras) can be used to determine the position (e.g., height) along the transparent display panel 20 to provide feedback. In some embodiments, detecting the angle of light (e.g., IR) emitted or reflected from the device 12 can also be used to determine the position of the visible indicator 40. In some embodiments, the visible indicator 40 may initially be displayed at a standard position (e.g., height). After detecting the angle of light (e.g., IR) emitted or reflected from the device 12, the position or height of the visible indicator 40 can be changed (i.e., at the correct or determined height for the visitor) to accommodate the position of the device pointing at the transparent display panel 20.

The first height or position 74 may be a standard height or position at which the visible indicator is initially displayed. In some embodiments, upon detecting the angle at which light (e.g., IR) is emitted or reflected from the device, the position of the visible indicator 72 may be changed to a second height or position 76 that is different from the first height or position 74. In some embodiments, the visible indicator 72 may be provided by emitting light from an LED embedded in the transparent display panel 20. Different LEDs may be embedded in different positions 74, 76. In some embodiments, the visible indicator 72 may be shown via the diodes of an OLED screen or projected on a projection screen via a projector (depending on the type of transparent display panel 20). Adjusting the height of the position of the visible indicator 72 may enable visitors (especially children) to better interact with the transparent display panel 20.

[0030] Figure 8is a flow chart of a method 78 for interacting with an interactive display. The steps of the method 78 may be Figure 1 , performed by the system 10 described in (e.g., as part of an interactive display). Method 78 includes detecting light (e.g., light) emitted or reflected from a device pointed in front of a transparent display panel (e.g., via a motion tracking device) (box 80). In some embodiments, in response to the detected light, method 78 includes adjusting a visible indicator that indicates a location or point on the transparent display panel to which the device should be pointed when a particular movement is made to cause a special effect in the interactive display (box 82). In some embodiments, in response to the detected light, method 78 includes determining where to display feedback of the tracked movement of the indicating device on the transparent display panel (box 84). Method 78 also includes displaying feedback of the tracked movement of the indicating device on the transparent display panel (box 86). The feedback may be as described above.
