AI Technical Summary
During the process of machining ophthalmic devices, machining tools are prone to overshoot when cutting discontinuous parts, resulting in surface instability.
By determining the kinematics of the machining tool, including the first tool path portion and the second tool path portion, the cutting edge cuts the portion of the discontinuous on a predetermined surface on the component and skips and away from the discontinuous during the second motion, ensuring execution at a single feed rate.
The overshoot phenomenon when the machining tool starts cutting discontinuous parts is effectively avoided, limiting the acceleration on the surface, thereby reducing the instability of the machining and hiding the instability, so that it occurs in the air rather than on the surface to be machined.

[0003] The present disclosure also relates to a command and control unit comprising system elements configured to run a computer program to implement at least the machining of the method, and to a manufacturing system comprising such a command and control unit and configured to perform the method.
[0004] The present disclosure also relates to a computer program comprising instructions configured to implement machining of the method when the computer program is run by a computer, and to a client-server communication interface for transmitting at least manufacturing data determined by the computer program implementing at least a part of the method to a remote computer, the remote computer implementing other parts of the method when the computer program is run in a command and control unit. Background Art
[0005] It is known to manufacture ophthalmic devices by machining methods performed by a machining system having a machining tool.
[0006] In particular, for machining a predetermined surface of an ophthalmic device with several protrusions, it is known from US 2019 / 0086897 to calculate a 3D tool path by generating an integrated reference variable for interpolating a single axis of movement of a precision machine. The calculation of the reference variable is performed analytically so that following a previously defined working profile (such as, in particular, a cutting profile of a tool), the 3D tool path matches the calculation exactly or does not exceed a defined residual error. The calculation is performed via an interface output, including position target values for the individual axes, speeds, accelerations or jerk values at equal time intervals. Summary of the invention
[0007] The present disclosure relates to a method for manufacturing an ophthalmic device, the method comprising machining to provide a predetermined surface of the ophthalmic device having at least one discontinuity, the method being easy to implement.
[0008] According to a first aspect, the present disclosure accordingly provides a method for manufacturing an ophthalmic device, the method comprising a machining step to provide a predetermined surface on a component and corresponding to an initial ophthalmic surface having at least one discontinuity, the machining step being performed according to determined kinematics of a machining tool, the determined kinematics being related to the initial ophthalmic surface having at least one discontinuity, wherein the determined kinematics of the machining tool comprises at least a first tool path portion and a second tool path portion, in which the cutting edge of the machining tool cuts at least a portion of the discontinuity during a first movement on the predetermined surface on the component, in which the cutting edge of the machining tool jumps over and moves away from the discontinuity during a second movement on the predetermined surface on the component, and the determined kinematics of the machining tool are performed at a single feed rate during at least the first movement and the second movement.
[0009] According to the present disclosure, the machining tool does not so cut material of the component prior to machining the discontinuity.
[0010] The method according to the present disclosure thus allows avoiding overshoot phenomena on the surface to be machined when the machining tool starts cutting a discontinuity.

[0049] The present disclosure relates to a method for manufacturing an ophthalmic device, the method comprising a machining step.
[0050] Figure 1A manufacturing system is shown which is configured to perform a machining step on at least a predetermined surface on a component 3, which is an ophthalmic device or a mold in which such an ophthalmic device is intended to be molded. Such a mold can be used to manufacture a semi-finished lens or a finished lens.
[0051] The system comprises a manufacturing machine 21 and a system component generally formed by at least one command and control unit 22, which is configured to communicate with a data processing system (or control unit) of the machine 21 and is configured to run a computer program having instructions that are configured to implement at least the machining steps of the method when the computer program is run by a computer.
[0052] The machine 21 is here a numerically controlled “free form” turning machine 1 , the numerical control being a set of devices and software whose function is to give movement instructions to all the elements of the machine 1 .
[0053] The machine 1 comprises a machining tool 27 , for example a movable machining arm on which a cutting tool provided with a cutting edge is mounted, and a data processing system or control unit (not shown) configured for controlling the tool 27 .
[0054] The command and control unit 22 comprises a microprocessor 23 having a memory 24 , in particular a non-volatile memory, allowing it to load and store computer programs (also called software) which, when executed in the microprocessor 23 , allow the method according to the present disclosure to be implemented.
[0055] This non-volatile memory 24 is, for example, of the ROM (“Read Only Memory”) type.
[0056] The command and control unit 22 further comprises a memory 25 , in particular a volatile memory, allowing data to be stored during the execution of the software and the implementation of the method.
[0057] This volatile memory 25 is, for example, of RAM or EEPROM type (“Random Access Memory” and “Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory”, respectively).
[0058] The command and control unit may only be at least partially integrated into the machine. In other words, the control unit may be partially or completely arranged outside the machine.
[0059] The command and control unit may at least partially form part of the machine and may comprise one or more command and control modules located internally and / or externally to the machine.
[0060] In the case where the machined component is directly an ophthalmic device, the machine 21 may also be configured for polishing the faces and / or for edging the peripheral edges to form an ophthalmic lens.
[0061] For example, the machine 21 may be configured to perform rough machining of a face and then perform finish machining to form an ophthalmic lens.
[0062] The machining tool 27 is a diamond turning tool in this case.
[0063] The machine 21 may also be configured for polishing the faces and / or for edging the peripheral edges to form an ophthalmic lens.
[0064] The tool may also be adapted for polishing and / or edging.
[0065] In a variant, the machining tool may be a turning tool, a milling tool or a fly cutting tool.
[0066] The command and control unit 22 is configured to command and control at least some of the steps of the manufacturing method described below.
[0067] Figure 2 A client-server communication interface 26 is shown, comprising, for example, a so-called provider side 29 a and another so-called client side 29 b , and these two sides communicate via an Internet interface 28 .
[0068] The supplier side includes a server 29a which is linked to the data processing system or Figure 1 The server 29a is configured to communicate with an Internet interface 28, using the same type of command and control unit 22a.
[0069] The client side 29b is configured to communicate with the Internet interface 28 and is linked to a data processing system or command and control unit 22b of the same type as the provider side.
[0070] In addition, the command and control unit 22b on the client side is linked to Figure 1 A manufacturing machine 21b of the same type is used for manufacturing at least the first side 3b of the ophthalmic substrate.
[0071] For example, the command and control unit 22 b on the client side is configured to receive from a user some parameters regarding the ophthalmic device to be machined and regarding some parameters intended to implement a manufacturing method for machining the ophthalmic device.
[0072] For example, the parameters regarding the ophthalmic device may include geometrical features and / or optical functions of the ophthalmic surface to be manufactured, and / or at least one information representative of intrinsic parameters of the material of the component to be machined, and / or parameters of the cutting edge of the machining tool 27 .
[0073] The parameters of the cutting edge of the machining tool 27 are associated with the machining kinematics and can be defined by at least one of the following: the distance traveled by the cutting edge for machining a predetermined surface; the friction time between the cutting edge and the machined component; the cutting depth, feed rate and rotation speed for machining the predetermined surface.
[0074] The command and control unit 22b on the client side uses the Internet 28 and the server 29a interface to send the received data to the command and control unit 22a on the supplier side for determining the manufacturing files and operating parameters.
[0075] The supplier-side command and control unit 22a executes the computer program it contains in order to implement steps such as determining the machining kinematics of the machining tool 27 in relation to the initial ophthalmic surface and optionally in relation to the parameters of the cutting edge.
[0076] Using the server 29a and the Internet interface 28, the command and control unit 22a on the supplier side sends the manufacturing files and the operating parameters, in particular the kinematics of the machining tool 27, to the command and control unit 22b on the client side.
[0077] The command and control unit 22b on the client side is here configured to execute software for implementing the further steps of the method for manufacturing a component by using manufacturing files and operating parameters (in particular the machining kinematics of the machining tool 27) so as to machine a predetermined surface on a component 3 by means of the manufacturing system 21b, the component being an ophthalmic device or a mold in which such an ophthalmic device is intended to be molded.
[0078] In a variant, the manufacturing system may be located on the supplier side, such that the command and control unit 22a on the supplier side is configured to both determine the kinematics of the machining tool 27 and to machine predetermined surfaces on a component 3, which is an ophthalmic device or a mold in which such an ophthalmic device is intended to be molded.
[0079] Figure 3 The main steps of the manufacturing method performed by the manufacturing system and / or the client-server communication interface 26 as described above are shown, and include:
[0080] - a step 100 of providing or obtaining an ophthalmic device or a mould in which such an ophthalmic device is intended to be moulded;
[0081] - a step 110 of machining a predetermined surface on the component provided in step 100, the predetermined surface corresponding to the initial ophthalmic surface having at least one discontinuity; and
[0082] - When the component is a mold intended for molding an ophthalmic device therein, a step 120 of molding the ophthalmic device in the machined mold such that an initial ophthalmic surface corresponding to a predetermined optical function on the ophthalmic device is obtained, for example.
[0083] Figure 4 The machining step 110 is shown in more detail and includes:
[0084] - a step 130 of selecting a machining tool 27 having a cutting edge;
[0085] - a step 140 of selecting an initial ophthalmic surface of the ophthalmic device intended to be manufactured, the initial ophthalmic surface having at least one discontinuity and corresponding, for example, to a predetermined optical function;
[0086] - a step 150 of determining and / or providing a determined kinematics of the machining tool 27, the determined kinematics being related to the initial ophthalmic surface and to the at least one discontinuity; and
[0087] - A step 160 of thus machining the predetermined surface according to the determined kinematics of the machining tool.
[0088] Figures 5 to 7 A number of machining kinematics of the machining tool are shown in more detail.
[0089] All machining kinematics shown are related to an initial ophthalmic surface having at least one discontinuity and include at least a first tool path portion, in which the cutting edge of the machining tool cuts at least a portion of the discontinuity during a first movement on the predetermined surface on the machined component, and a second tool path portion, in which the cutting edge of the machining tool jumps over and moves away from the discontinuity during a second movement on the predetermined surface on the machined component.
[0090] Furthermore, all determination of kinematics is performed at a single feed rate at least during the first movement and the second movement.
[0091] In other words, the first movement and the second movement are offset from each other relative to the center of the machined component or relative to the outer contour of the machined component.
[0092] The first movement and the second movement may be defined by revolutions on a surface, in particular having a circular and / or elliptical shape, or a strip shape.
[0093] exist Figure 5 In the embodiment shown, the predetermined surface 50 on the component is substantially flat and comprises only one discontinuity 55 , which is formed here by a cavity on the predetermined surface 50 .
[0094] The determined machining kinematics are graphically represented by a spiral extending along the predetermined surface 50 , which comprises a plurality of grooves which are here equidistant from one another at a distance corresponding to the feed rate of the machining tool.
[0095] The right side of the component shows the details of the discontinuity 55 on the predetermined surface 50, the shape of the discontinuity 55 (in Figure 5 ), the tool path (visible by the cutting edge) of the machining tool relative to the predetermined surface 50 and according to several revolutions marked 1 to 5.
[0096] In this embodiment, the determined machining kinematics for the discontinuity 55 include the following tool path portions:
[0097] - a first tool path portion during revolutions "1", "3" and "5" in which the cutting edge of the machining tool cuts at least a portion of the discontinuity 55; and
[0098] A second tool path portion during the “2” and “4” revolutions, in which the cutting edge of the machining tool jumps over and moves away from the discontinuity 55 .
[0099] It should be noted that during the "1", "3" and "5" revolutions, the first tool path portion that determines the kinematics may include continuous acceleration as the machining tool begins to cut or approach the discontinuity 55, which corresponds to the peaks shown before and after the cavity; while during the "2" and "4" revolutions, the machining tool does not touch the discontinuity 55.
[0100] exist Figure 6 In the embodiment, the predetermined surface 50 on the component includes a plurality of discontinuities 55 which are adjacently located along a plurality of turns on the predetermined surface 50 .
[0101] Here, the discontinuity 50 is formed by a cavity on the predetermined surface 50 .
[0102] like Figure 5 Likewise, the determined machining kinematics are graphically represented by a spiral extending along the predetermined surface 50, which comprises a plurality of grooves which are here equidistant from one another at a distance corresponding to the feed rate of the machining tool.
[0103] On the right side of the component are shown details of some discontinuities 55a-c on the predetermined surface 50, respectively, and the tool path of the machining tool relative to the predetermined surface 50 and according to several revolutions marked 1 to 5 (visible through the cutting edge).
[0104] In this other embodiment, the determined machining kinematics for the discontinuities 55a-c include the following tool path portions:
[0105] - during revolutions "1", "3" and "5", a first tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool cuts at least a portion of the discontinuity 55b, and a second tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool jumps over and away from the discontinuities 55a and 55c; and
[0106] - During the "2" and "4" revolutions, a first tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool cuts at least a portion of the discontinuities 55a and 55c, and a second tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool jumps over and away from the discontinuity 55b.
[0107] It should be noted that during each revolution, the first tool path portion determining the kinematics may include a continuous acceleration when the machining tool begins cutting or approaches the respective discontinuity, corresponding to the peaks shown before and after the pocket.
[0108] Therefore, the above machining kinematics sequentially include a first tool path portion and a second tool path portion, so that the cutting edge of the machining tool sequentially cuts at least a portion of the first discontinuity and at least skips the second discontinuity adjacent to the first discontinuity during a single rotation; and further sequentially includes the second tool path portion and the first tool path portion, so that the cutting edge of the machining tool sequentially skips at least the first discontinuity and cuts at least a portion of the second discontinuity adjacent to the first discontinuity during another single movement.
[0109] exist Figure 7 In the embodiment, the predetermined surface 50 on the component includes a plurality of discontinuities 55, which are also substantially located adjacent to each other along a plurality of turns on the predetermined surface 50.
[0110] Here, the discontinuity 50 is formed by a hexagonal cavity on the predetermined surface 50 .
[0111] On the right side of the component are shown details of some discontinuities 55a-c on the predetermined surface 50, respectively, and the tool path (visible through the cutting edge) of the machining tool relative to the predetermined surface 50 and according to several movements marked 1 to 3.
[0112] In this other embodiment, the determined machining kinematics for the discontinuities 55a-c include the following tool path portions:
[0113] - during the "1" and "3" movements, a first tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool cuts at least a portion of the discontinuities 55a and 55c, and a second tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool jumps over and away from the discontinuity 55b; and
[0114] - During the "2" movement, a first tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool cuts at least a portion of the discontinuity 55b, and a second tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool jumps over and away from the discontinuities 55a and 55c.
[0115] It should be noted that during each movement, the first tool path portion determining the kinematics may include a continuous acceleration when the machining tool begins cutting or approaches the respective discontinuity, which corresponds to the illustrated peaks before and after the pocket.
[0116] Therefore, the above machining kinematics also sequentially include a first tool path portion and a second tool path portion, so that the cutting edge of the machining tool sequentially cuts at least a portion of the first discontinuity and at least skips the second discontinuity adjacent to the first discontinuity during a single movement; and further sequentially includes the second tool path portion and the first tool path portion, so that the cutting edge of the machining tool sequentially skips at least the first discontinuity and cuts at least a portion of the second discontinuity adjacent to the first discontinuity during another single movement.
[0117] In a variant not shown, the determined kinematics of the machining tool comprises at least a third tool path portion in which the cutting edge of the machining tool does not touch any discontinuity during the third movement and is performed at a feed rate greater than the unitary feed rate.
[0118] The single feed rate can be equal to half or one third of the feed rate.
[0119] In another variant, not illustrated, at least one discontinuity is formed by a groove and the predetermined surface on the component corresponds to the contour of the ophthalmic device.
[0120] Thus, the above disclosure relates to a new kinematics of a turning machine and a new tool trajectory to perform a nominal surface, which allows smoothing of the tool kinematics to reduce closed loop instabilities and overshoot of the tool on the surface. This new kinematics does not increase the distance the tool travels on the surface.
[0121] The new kinematics avoid instabilities by limiting the acceleration on the surface. When the tool is outside the surface, the instability can be eliminated or disappears, and the overshoot is made in the air instead of on the surface. This position of the machining tool during the determination of the kinematics can be called "air cutting".
[0122] In other words, the machining tool does not cut material of the component so far before machining the discontinuity, thereby avoiding overshoot phenomena on the surface to be machined when the machining tool starts cutting the discontinuity.
[0123] When the machining tool is outside the surface to be machined, the instability is effectively hidden.
[0124] In a first example, where the lens is a ring with five protrusions (labeled A, B, C, D, and E), the tool will not cut all of the protrusions in each movement (defined here by a revolution). The tool will cut one protrusion and will skip the next protrusion. In the first revolution, the tool cuts A, C, and E; in the second revolution, the tool cuts B and D, etc.
[0125] In a second example, where the lens is a ring with seven protrusions (labeled A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H), the tool will not cut all of the protrusions in each revolution. The machining tool will cut one protrusion and will skip the next two protrusions. In the first revolution, the tool cuts A, D, and G; in the second revolution, the tool cuts B, E, and H; in the third revolution, the tool cuts C and F.
[0126] It is important to note that between these three revolutions, the tool maintains the same feed rate, which may be a reduced feed rate compared to the normal feed rate.
[0127] The first movement, the second movement and / or the third movement are different, but in a variant they may be similar.
[0128] The above disclosure can be used with either slow tools or fast tools.
[0129] Especially when using fast tools, the kinematics can be determined in advance rather than in real time.
[0130] The above disclosure may be combined with laser or ultrasonic assistance, particularly in the case of turning methods and preferably when using slow tools.
[0131] The material of the machined part can be made of plastic, steel, or mineral, or any kind of material.
[0132] The above disclosure can be used for time-consuming manufacturing, such as steel mold manufacturing directly through diamond turning tools.
[0133] More generally, it should be noted that the present disclosure is not limited to the examples described and presented.
