[0007] A user can use a computing device for various purposes, such as for business and / or entertainment use. As used herein, the term "computing device" refers to an electronic system having a processor (e.g., a processor resource, a hardware processor, etc.) and memory resources. Examples of computing devices can include, for example, laptop computers, notebook computers, desktop computers, all-in-one (AIO) computers, networking devices (e.g., routers, switches, etc.) and / or mobile devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets, personal digital assistants, smart glasses, wrist-worn devices such as smartwatches, etc.), as well as other types of computing devices. As used herein, a mobile device refers to a device that is or can be carried and / or worn by a user.

[0008] A computing device can be utilized to execute a conferencing application that can allow multiple computing devices to share audio data and / or image data (e.g., images, videos, text, etc.). As used herein, the conferencing application can include instructions for the following operations: providing a conference among multiple computing devices such that the multiple computing devices participating in the conference can share information (e.g., content, image data, audio data, etc.). In this way, multiple users can utilize the conferencing application to communicate with remote users via multiple computing devices. In some examples, the conferencing application can include a user interface displayed on a display device of the computing device. For example, the computing device can execute the conferencing application to connect with multiple remote computing devices. In this example, the computing device can include a display device to display the user interface associated with the conferencing application. As used herein, the user interface includes instructions for receiving input and / or providing output to allow a user to interact with the computing device.

[0009] The user interface can include instructions that allow a user of the computing device to interact with the conferencing application. For example, a user can make selections within the user interface of the conferencing application to instruct the conferencing application to perform specific functions. For example, the user interface can include selections that allow a user to join a specific conference, remove a user from a specific conference, mute a specific user, share video from a camera, share an image, share an image displayed on the display device, and other selections that can instruct the conferencing application to perform functions. In a specific example, the conferencing application can be instructed to perform a screen sharing function via the user interface. As used herein, the screen sharing function includes instructions for sharing the image data currently displayed on the display device with the conferencing application. In these examples, the conferencing application receives the image data being displayed on the display device and transmits (e.g., instructs a network interface device to transmit) the image data to other computing devices participating in a specific conference. In this way, a specific user of the conference can share images and / or videos with multiple other users participating in the conference associated with the conferencing application.

[0010] In some examples, the image displayed on the first display device of the first user sharing the image data may appear differently on the second display device of the second user receiving the image data. For example, a delay may occur between the content currently displayed on the first display and the content displayed on the second display. When discussing image data, the delay may result in miscommunication between the first user and the second user. In other examples, the image data quality may appear differently on the first display and the second display. In these examples, the network connection metrics and / or computing device metrics may not be able to transmit the image data without degrading the image quality. In this way, the image displayed on the second display device may appear unlike the image displayed on the second display device.

[0011] The present disclosure describes systems and devices for a content sharing user interface. The content sharing user interface can be used with a conferencing application and / or a user interface associated with the conferencing application. The content sharing user interface can designate a first portion of the user interface as a sharing portion and a second portion of the user interface as a receiving portion. Image data within the first portion of the user interface can be shared with the conferencing application for providing to other users within a particular conference. The image data within the second portion is the image data received by the conferencing application of the image data within the first portion. In this manner, the user interface can display the content to be shared and the content when the content is received by a remote computing device.

[0012] The user interface can be used to simultaneously display the image data being shared and how the shared image data is being received. This can allow a user to ensure that an end user is viewing the same image data as that currently being displayed within the first portion. Additionally, the user interface can allow the user to ensure that the image quality being received by the end user is similar to or the same as the image quality of the image data being shared within the first portion. Additionally, the user interface can display network connection metrics and / or computing device metrics to ensure that the user sharing the image data maintains a threshold level for sharing the particular image data. Additionally, the user interface can generate a notification when the image data received by the end user or displayed within the second portion is below a threshold, when the network connection metric is below a particular threshold, and / or when the computing device metric is below a particular threshold.

[0013] Figure 1 An example of a method 100 for a content sharing user interface is shown. In some examples, the method 100 can be performed by a computing device and / or a computing system including a plurality of computing devices. In some examples, the method 100 can be used to display device metrics (e.g., network metrics, processor metrics, memory metrics, etc. associated with the device) and image data received from a conferencing application to allow a user to monitor how remote participants are receiving the image data. In this manner, the user sharing the image data does not have to ask the participants of the conference what the participants are viewing or if there are image quality issues associated with the participants' computing devices.

[0014] In some examples, at 102, the method 100 can include designating a sharing portion of the user interface. In these examples, the sharing portion of the user interface is the designated portion of the user interface to be shared with or transmitted to the conferencing application. In this manner, the sharing portion is a part of the user interface that is shared or provided to other users who are participants in a particular conference. In this manner, multiple users can be associated with a conference through the conferencing application. The conferencing application can receive inputs from multiple participants and distribute those inputs to other participants of the conference.

[0015] The shared portion can be a designated area of the user interface, which can include image data being displayed by a display device. In this way, a user of the display device can locate, within the shared portion of the user interface, the image data to be shared or provided to meeting participants. In this way, the image data located within the shared portion can be transmitted to the conferencing application and provided to multiple participant computing devices connected to the conferencing application. In some examples, image data outside the shared portion is not provided to and / or is restricted from being provided to the conferencing application.

[0016] In some examples, at 104, method 100 can include sending content from the shared portion to the conferencing application. In some examples, the conferencing application can include instructions for receiving content (e.g., image data, sound data, etc.) within the shared portion of the user interface and transmitting the content over a network to multiple remote computing devices. As described herein, the conferencing application can be used to organize data transfer between multiple computing devices participating in a particular meeting. In this way, users associated with the multiple computing devices can share information with other users participating in the meeting.

[0017] In some examples, at 106, method 100 can include receiving, as a virtual user of the conferencing application, content from the conferencing application. As further described herein, a user who uses a content sharing user interface to share content through the shared portion can use the virtual user to display the content provided by the user to the conferencing application. As used herein, the virtual user can be a computer robot or other instruction set that acts as a remote participating user and receives content from the conferencing application as if it were a real participating user. In these examples, the content received by the virtual user of the conferencing application can be displayed on a virtual user portion of the user interface. In some examples, the virtual user portion can be displayed by the display device simultaneously with the content within the shared portion. In this way, the display device can show what the user is intending to share within the shared portion and what remote participants of the conferencing application are viewing within the virtual user portion.

[0018] In some examples, at 108, method 100 can include updating a meeting state based on the content received as the virtual user. In some examples, the meeting state can include meeting metrics provided by the conferencing application. In these examples, the meeting metrics can include, but are not limited to: network metrics, processing metrics, memory metrics, refresh rate, image quality, and other computing metrics that may affect the quality or experience of meeting participants.

[0019] In some examples, at 110, method 100 may include generating a notification based on a session state. In some examples, the notification may indicate that a remote computing device is displaying shared content within a shared portion of a user interface. For example, the notification may be an indicator that a remote computing device connected to a conferencing application is able to view the shared content. In some examples, the notification may include a recommendation to change the computing device or network connection to increase a computing metric.

[0020] In some examples, a notification may be generated based on a threshold metric value. For example, a notification may be generated when a network connection speed drops below a network connection speed threshold. In this way, the notification may indicate that the network connection speed is not sufficient to provide content to multiple remote computing devices participating in a meeting. In this example, the notification may include a recommendation to increase the network connection speed above the network connection speed threshold. In this way, the notification may inform the user that participants in the meeting may not be viewing the content in the same way as the sharing user is viewing the content within the sharing window. Additionally, the notification may provide a recommendation to provide higher quality content to the participants.

[0021] In some examples, the threshold metric value may change based on the shared content. For example, when a still image is being shared within the shared portion, a first set of threshold metric values may be utilized, and when a video image is being shared within the shared portion, a second set of threshold metric values may be utilized. In this way, content that may utilize more computing and / or networking resources may utilize higher threshold metric values compared to content that may utilize fewer computing and / or networking resources.

[0022] Figure 2 An example of a system 220 for a content sharing user interface is shown. In some examples, system 220 may represent a network of computing devices and / or computing systems that utilize a conferencing application 224 to conduct a meeting. In some examples, conferencing application 224 may be stored on computing device 240 and / or on one or more participant devices 225, 226. Although Figure 2 two participant devices 225, 226 are shown, more or fewer participant devices may be utilized. As used herein, a participant device may be a device that participates in a meeting of conferencing application 224.

[0023] In some examples, computing device 240 can be used to generate user interface 227 that can be displayed on a display device. User interface 227 can include shared portion 221, virtual user portion 223, and metric portion 222. As described herein, shared portion 221 can be a designated area within user interface 227 that is provided to conferencing application 224 for providing to participant devices 225, 226. As described herein, a user of computing device 240 can select content or image data to be positioned within shared portion 221 and / or select content or image data to be positioned outside of shared portion 221. In this manner, content is provided to conferencing application 224 and / or participant devices 225, 226.

[0024] In some examples, content provided to conferencing application 224 can be provided to computing device 240 and / or user interface 227 for providing to the virtual user and displaying in virtual user portion 223. In this manner, content within shared portion 221 can be provided to the virtual user as if the virtual user were one of participant devices 225, 226. The content displayed within virtual user portion 223 can be an indication of what participant devices 225, 226 are displaying. In some examples, latency or lag may occur when sharing content via shared portion 221. In these examples, virtual user portion 223 can be used to monitor the latency or lag such that a user utilizing user interface 227 can wait for the latency or lag to pass before continuing discussion of the content within the shared portion.

[0025] In some examples, virtual user portion 223 can be used to monitor the image quality of content provided to conferencing application 224 within shared portion 221. For example, the image quality of virtual user portion 223 can be compared to the image quality within shared portion 221 to determine when the image quality difference is greater than a threshold. In these examples, a notification can be generated and displayed within user interface 227 to indicate that the image quality difference is greater than the threshold. As described herein, the notification can include a recommendation for improving the image quality of the content within virtual user portion 223.

[0026] In some examples, the user interface 227 includes a metrics portion 222. The metrics portion 222 can include current metrics of the computing device 240, the conferencing application, and / or the network connection of the computing device 240. As described herein, the metrics portion 222 can display current computed metrics associated with a conference between the computing device 240 and the participant devices 225, 226. In some examples, multiple metrics displayed within the metrics portion 222 can each include a corresponding metrics threshold. As described herein, the metrics threshold can be a threshold resource level for providing the content within the sharing portion 221 to the conferencing application 224 such that the participants 225, 226 receive the content. As described herein, the metrics threshold can be based on the type of content located within the sharing portion 221. For example, a higher threshold level can be utilized when sharing video image content, and a lower threshold level can be utilized when sharing still image content.

[0027] Figure 3 An example of a device 340 for a content sharing user interface is shown. The device 340 can be a computing device that includes a processor 342, which can execute instructions 346, 348 to perform the methods described herein. In some examples, the device 340 can be a computing device communicatively coupled to a remote computing device via a network. In other examples, the device 340 can include a controller or other hardware to execute the instructions 346, 348 and / or perform the methods described herein.

[0028] In some examples, the device 340 can include a processor 342 (e.g., a processor resource, a processing resource, etc.) communicatively coupled to a memory resource 344. As further described herein, the memory resource 344 can include instructions 346, 348 that can be executed by the processor 342 to perform a specific function. In some examples, the device 340 is coupled to a display device to display a user interface of the conferencing application.

[0029] The device 340 can include components such as a processor 342. As used herein, the processor 342 can include, but is not limited to: a central processing unit (CPU), an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), a field programmable gate array (FPGA), a metal programmable cell array (MPCA), a semiconductor-based microprocessor, or other combinations of circuits and / or logic that coordinate the execution of the instructions 346, 348. In other examples, the device 340 can include instructions 346, 348 stored on a machine-readable medium (e.g., the memory resource 344, a non-transitory computer-readable medium, etc.) and executable by the processor 342. In a particular example, the device 340 utilizes a non-transitory computer-readable medium that stores the instructions 346, 348, which, when executed, cause the processor 342 to perform a corresponding function.

[0030] In some examples, device 340 may include instructions 346 that may be executed by processor 342 to specify a first portion of a user interface to share content with a remote device via a conferencing application. As described herein, the first portion of the user interface may be a sharing portion, which may be a designated area of the user interface for sharing content with the conferencing application. In this way, the content within the first portion of the user interface may be provided to the conferencing application, while the content not within the first portion is not provided to the conferencing application.

[0031] In some examples, device 340 may include instructions 348 that may be executed by processor 342 to specify a second portion of the user interface to display content from the conferencing application to represent the content when the content is received by the remote device. As described herein, the second portion of the user interface may be a designated area for presenting the content provided within the first portion. In this way, the second portion may represent the content when the content is provided or when the content is received by a remote computing device using the conferencing application.

[0032] In some examples, the second portion of the user interface is restricted from being provided to the conferencing application. As described herein, the second portion of the user interface is not provided to the conferencing application. In some examples, the second portion of the user interface may overlap or be positioned within the first portion of the user interface. In these examples, overlapping the second portion over the first portion may include displaying the second portion over a part of the first portion. In this way, the user interface may not display the part overlapped by the second portion. However, the second portion may be designated to prevent the second portion from being provided to the conferencing application, or from being displayed by multiple computing devices not connected to the conferencing application. In this way, the second portion is not displayed by multiple computing devices, and the part overlapped by the second portion is displayed by multiple computing devices as if the second portion is not displayed by the user interface.

[0033] In these examples, the second portion may be designated to be excluded from a capture area. As used herein, excluding from a capture area may prevent the corresponding section or area from being printed, captured in a screenshot, and / or prevented from being provided to an application. In this way, the second portion of the user interface may be positioned within the first portion and / or over an image displayed within the first portion without transmitting the image data received from the conferencing application back to the conferencing application.

[0034] In some examples, device 340 may include instructions to display a network connection value between a conferencing application and the device. In these examples, device 340 may include instructions to generate a notification when the network connection value is below a threshold network connection value. As described herein, the network connection value may be the signal strength of the network of device 340 that displays the user interface. In these examples, a network connection value below the threshold network connection may not provide image data or content within a first portion to the conferencing application. For example, the content within the first portion may not be provided to the conferencing application with the same or similar image quality. In this example, when the network connection value is below the threshold network connection value, the image quality received by the remote computing device may be below an image quality threshold.

[0035] In some examples, device 340 may include instructions for the following operation: when a remote device has displayed content within a first portion of a user interface, designate a third portion of the user interface to display a notification. As described herein, the designated portion of the user interface can be used to provide a notification to a user in response to determining that the content within the first portion is provided to or displayed by a remote computing device utilizing a conferencing application. In this manner, when the user of the remote computing device can see the content shared within the first portion, the user of device 340 can be notified by the notification. Additionally, when the user of the remote computing device cannot see the content shared within the first portion, the user of device 340 can be notified by the notification.

[0036] Figure 4 An example of a memory resource 444 storing instructions 454, 456, 458, 460 for a content sharing user interface is shown. In some examples, memory resource 444 may be part of a computing device, computing system, or controller that may be communicatively coupled to a system including the computing device. For example, memory resource 444 may be Figure 3 part of device 340 as referenced

[0037] In some examples, memory resource 444 may be communicatively coupled to a processor 442, which may execute instructions 454, 456, 458, 460 stored on memory resource 444. For example, memory resource 444 may be communicatively coupled to processor 442 via a communication path 450. In some examples, communication path 450 may include a wired or wireless connection that may permit communication between devices and / or components within a single device.

[0038] The memory resource 444 can be an electronic, magnetic, optical, or other physical storage device that stores executable instructions. Thus, a non-transitory machine-readable medium (MRM) (e.g., the memory resource 444) can be, for example, a non-transitory MRM that includes random access memory (RAM), read-only memory (ROM), electrically erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM), a storage drive, an optical disc, etc. The non-transitory machine-readable medium (e.g., the memory resource 444) can be disposed within the controller and / or the computing device. In this example, the executable instructions 454, 456, 458, 460 can be “installed” on the device. Additionally and / or alternatively, the non-transitory machine-readable medium (e.g., the memory resource 444) can be, for example, a portable, external, or remote storage medium that allows a computing system or a printing system to download the instructions 454, 456, 458, 460 from the portable / external / remote storage medium. In such a case, the executable instructions can be part of an “installation package”. As described herein, the non-transitory machine-readable medium (e.g., the memory resource 444) can be encoded with executable instructions for a content sharing user interface.

[0039] When executed by the processor 442, the instruction 452 can include instructions to display content on a display device. As described herein, the content can be image data (e.g., text, video, image, etc.) that is displayed on a display device (e.g., a display, a monitor, a television, etc.) via a user interface. In some examples, the content on the display device can be shared with multiple remote computing devices using a conferencing application. That is, the content can be shared via the screen sharing function of the conferencing application such that the remote display device can display the same content as that displayed on the display device.

[0040] When executed by the processor 442, the instruction 454 can include instructions to provide content to a conferencing application when the content is within a specified first portion of the display device. As described herein, the content can be positioned within a specified region of the user interface and shared with the conferencing application for providing to multiple remote computing devices that utilize the conferencing application. In some examples, the first portion of the display device can be the entire region of the display device. In this way, the entire user interface can be shared with the conferencing application. In these examples, a second portion can be specified to be excluded from the captured portion such that the second portion is not provided to the conferencing application. In these examples, the image data of the user interface is provided as if the second portion were not displayed on the user interface.

[0041] When executed by the processor 442, the instructions 456 can include instructions to receive content from a conferencing application. As described herein, the user interface can utilize a virtual user with the conferencing application such that the conferencing application provides the content back to the device that sent the content. In this way, the user interface can display the content of the virtual user to allow the user to view the shared content and the content when the content is received by multiple remote devices utilizing the conferencing application.

[0042] When executed by the processor 442, the instructions 458 can include instructions to display, within a specified second portion of the display device, the content received from the conferencing application. As described herein, the user interface can include the specified second portion to display the received content to display the content received by the virtual user and / or multiple remote devices utilizing the conferencing application. As described herein, the second portion can be positioned over the image data displayed within the first portion of the user interface. In these examples, the second portion can be specified as not being provided to the conferencing application.

[0043] When executed by the processor 442, the instructions 460 can include instructions to prevent the content within the specified second portion of the display device from being provided to the conferencing application. As described herein, the second portion of the user interface displayed on the display device can be specified as not being displayed, or other specified such that it is not displayed by the multiple devices utilizing the conferencing application. In this way, the second portion can be visible to the user of the user interface and appear invisible to the users of the multiple remote devices utilizing the conferencing application.

[0044] In some examples, the memory resource 444 can include instructions for the following operation: generating a notification to be displayed on the display device when the content within the specified second portion of the display is different from the content within the specified first portion for a threshold period of time. In some examples, the content within the first portion can be compared with the content within the second portion to determine when there is a difference that exceeds the threshold difference. In this way, a lag or delay between the content within the first portion and the content received by the multiple remote devices utilizing the conferencing application is obtained. In other examples, the difference can be utilized to determine that the content within the first portion is not being provided to the multiple devices utilizing the conferencing application.

[0045] In other examples, the difference between the content within the first portion and the second portion can be utilized to determine when there is an image quality issue with the content displayed by the multiple remote devices utilizing the conferencing application. For example, a video can be playing within the first portion and may not be playing above a quality threshold within the second portion. These differences can be used to determine when the quality of the content within the second portion is below the threshold quality.

[0046] In other examples, the memory resource 444 may include instructions for generating a notification when an image quality metric for content within a second portion is below a threshold quality metric. In some examples, the image quality within the second portion may be analyzed separately to determine when the content quality within the second portion is below a threshold image quality. For example, an image quality metric (e.g., Image Quality Assessment (IQA), etc.) for the content within the second portion may be determined to determine when the image quality is below a threshold.

[0047] In some examples, the memory resource 444 may include instructions for determining a content type within a specified first portion and determining a network connection value threshold based on the content type within the specified first portion. As described herein, the first portion may be used to share multiple different types of content (e.g., images, videos, text, etc.). These types of content may be transmitted to multiple remote devices utilizing a conferencing application with different amounts of computing resources (e.g., network bandwidth, processing resources, memory resources, etc.). In this way, the network connection value threshold may be varied based on the content type to ensure that content utilizing a larger amount of computing resources is assigned a relatively higher threshold, while content utilizing a relatively smaller amount of computing resources is assigned a relatively lower threshold.

[0048] In some examples, the memory resource 444 may include instructions for activating a virtual user for a conferencing application. In these examples, the virtual user provides content to be displayed within a specified second portion. As described herein, the content displayed within the second portion may be provided by a virtual user of the conferencing application to mimic or mirror the content provided to multiple remote devices utilizing the conferencing application.

[0049] Figure 5 An example of a system 570 for a content sharing user interface is shown. The system 570 may include a computing device 540 communicatively coupled to a display device 580 via a first communication path 550-1. In some examples, the computing device 540 may be communicatively coupled to a network interface device 582 via a second communication path 550-2. In some examples, the display device 580 may be used to display a user interface of the computing device 540.

[0050] In some examples, the network interface device 582 may be used to transmit and receive data from multiple remote computing devices via a network connection. In this way, a conferencing application associated with the computing device 540 may provide a conference session between the computing device 540 and multiple remote computing devices.

[0051] In some examples, computing device 540 may include instructions 572 that may be executed by processor 542 to specify a first portion of a user interface of display device 580 to share content with a remote device via a conferencing application. As described herein, a conferencing application may be instructions that transmit and receive data to provide a conferencing session among multiple computing devices. In some examples, the first portion of the user interface may be designated as a sharing portion that provides content within the boundaries of the first portion.

[0052] In some examples, computing device 540 may include instructions 574 that may be executed by processor 542 to send content within the first portion of the user interface to the conferencing application via network interface device 582. Data within the first portion may be provided to the conferencing application for provision to multiple remote computing devices that utilize the conferencing application.

[0053] In some examples, computing device 540 may include instructions 576 that may be executed by processor 546 to receive content sent to the conferencing application via network interface device 584. As described herein, computing device 540 may receive the same content provided to the conferencing application as a virtual remote user.
