[0061] With the continuous development of display technology, the requirements of users for display devices are gradually increasing. Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT) is a parameter that needs to be concerned. The shorter the Moving Picture Response Time is, the clearer the picture is, and the less the ghosting is.
[0062] Moving Picture Response Time refers to the time during which a pixel in a display remains visible. It can be used to reduce the ghosting and afterimage phenomenon of a picture, making the picture clearer and smoother, thereby improving user experience and comfort. Generally, MPRT is the time during which each frame of picture is displayed on the screen by temporarily turning off the backlight to shorten the display time of each frame of picture on the screen. When the color conversion is completed, the backlight is turned on again to continue displaying the next frame of picture. Such processing effectively reduces the persistence effect of the picture, i.e., the phenomenon that the previous frame of picture is still visible when the next frame of picture is displayed, thereby reducing the visual blur. MPRT combines GTG (Gray to Gray) and the holding time of each frame of picture, so that the calculated MPRT can better reflect the ghosting perceived by the human eye. The calculation principle of MPRT is described below by formula:
[0063]
[0064] In some embodiments, τ represents the response time (or gray scale response time) of liquid crystal, T f represents the ratio of decay time (Decay time) and frame duration.
[0065] According to the above formula, to reduce the MPRT and improve the display effect, the display time in the frame time can be reduced or the gray scale response time can be reduced. Taking reducing the display time in the frame time as an example, the display time in the frame time is reduced by the black frame insertion method, that is, the display is black for a period of time.
[0066] Variable refresh rate (VRR) is a display technology that allows the refresh rate of a display to be dynamically adjusted to match the frame rate output by a graphics card. Traditional displays usually have a fixed refresh rate (for example, 60Hz, 75Hz, etc.), which means that the display refreshes a fixed number of times per second. However, in actual use, the frame rate output by the graphics card varies, especially when playing games or running high-performance applications. This mismatch can cause screen tearing and stuttering and other problems. The VRR technology dynamically adjusts the refresh rate to synchronize the refresh rate of the display with the frame rate output by the graphics card, eliminating screen tearing and stuttering and improving the visual experience.
[0067] From the foregoing introduction, it can be seen that when the variable refresh rate function of the display is turned on, the refresh rate of the display is in a dynamic change process, for example, the refresh rate of the previous second can be 240Hz, and the refresh rate of the next second can change to 60Hz. On this basis, if an effective backlight driving signal (for example, effective black frame insertion) can be provided for the display in the dynamic refresh rate change process, the MPRT can be effectively reduced and the display effect can be improved.
[0068] In related technologies, in order to shorten the dynamic picture response time, the black frame insertion method is usually used to reduce the display time of each frame of picture. However, the black frame insertion is usually based on the refresh rate of the previous frame signal to operate the next frame signal, for example, the backlight is provided for the next frame according to the refresh rate information of the current frame of the liquid crystal panel, which causes the mismatch between the provided backlight and the refresh rate of the next frame of the liquid crystal panel, and the difference between them is always one frame of time. For example, the refresh rate of the current frame of the liquid crystal panel is 60Hz, and the refresh rate of the next frame is 120Hz. The related technology uses the refresh rate of 60Hz to obtain the backlight signal provided by the backlight module for the next frame, for example, the refresh rate of the backlight signal is obtained according to the refresh rate of 60Hz of the liquid crystal panel, thereby causing the mismatch between the refresh rate of the backlight provided by the backlight module for the next frame and the refresh rate of 120Hz of the liquid crystal panel, and resulting in poor display effect.
[0069] Therefore, the first aspect of the embodiments of the present disclosure provides a backlight driving method which can match the backlight driving signal with the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed to a certain extent and improve the display effect.
[0070] The backlight driving method of the embodiments of the present disclosure is described below in combination with specific drawings.
[0071] Referring to FIG. 1, a flowchart of a backlight driving method according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is shown.
[0072] A first aspect of embodiments of the present disclosure provides a backlight driving method applied to a display device, the display device comprising a liquid crystal panel and a backlight module stacked.
[0073] It can be understood that the display device as a display component of an electronic device has been widely applied to various electronic products. For example, the display device can be a display screen, a mobile phone, a notebook computer, a tablet computer, a wearable display device (such as a smart watch, smart glasses, etc.), a television, a digital photo frame, or any electronic product or component with display function.
[0074] The backlight driving method of embodiments of the present disclosure can be executed on a controller of the backlight module, for example, a backlight MCU (Microcontroller Unit). The method includes but is not limited to:
[0075] Step S10. Obtain the refresh rate of a to-be-displayed frame of the liquid crystal panel, and a parameter of the liquid crystal panel.
[0076] It should be noted that the to-be-displayed frame can be a frame picture to be displayed next time by the liquid crystal panel. For example, the liquid crystal panel is provided with a processor (such as a Scaler IC, a Tcon IC, etc.), which sends the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame of the liquid crystal panel to the backlight MCU. Thus, the backlight MCU can perform subsequent analysis and processing according to the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame, which will be described below.
[0077] It can be understood that generally, after receiving the image information, the processor determines the brightness data of the to-be-displayed frame according to the image information, and sends the brightness data to the backlight MCU, so that the backlight MCU controls the backlight module to provide backlight with corresponding brightness according to the brightness data. That is, in the embodiments of the present disclosure, the processor can send the brightness data and the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame to the backlight MCU.
[0078] It should be noted that the parameter of the liquid crystal panel can be a parameter related to the dynamic response time, i.e., a parameter affecting the dynamic response time, or a parameter affecting the black frame insertion (such as black frame insertion ratio, black frame insertion time, etc.), for example, liquid crystal reaction time (gray scale response time), vertical blanking time, etc.
[0079] In some embodiments, the parameter of the liquid crystal panel includes the number of backlight black frame insertion partitions, the vertical blanking time, and the liquid crystal reaction time.
[0080] It should be noted that the backlight module includes a plurality of light source blocks arranged in an array, each light source block includes at least one LED lamp, and thus each light source block constitutes a lamp area. In order to improve the display effect, the display area of the liquid crystal panel is finely or delicately controlled, and each lamp area of the backlight module can be controlled or driven individually. For example, the backlight module includes 1152 lamp areas, 2304 lamp areas, etc.
[0081] When the backlight module provides backlight or black insertion for the liquid crystal panel, in order to improve the display effect, the liquid crystal panel and the backlight module can be divided into zones, for example, the liquid crystal panel is divided into a plurality of display zones according to the width direction of the liquid crystal panel (or the pixel row direction in the liquid crystal panel), and the backlight module is divided into a plurality of backlight zones, one display zone can correspond to one backlight zone, and each backlight zone is used to provide backlight or black insertion for the corresponding display zone. For example, the display zones and the backlight zones are 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, etc., which can be set according to actual needs, for example, the number of display zones and the number of backlight zones can be determined by the number of lamp areas (light source blocks), for example, the number of lamp areas is an integer multiple of the number of display zones and the number of backlight zones, so as to facilitate calculation, that is, one backlight zone can include a plurality of lamp areas.
[0082] Therefore, the driving current of the LED in each backlight zone can be adjusted according to the pixel information (such as the gray value) of the frame to be displayed on the liquid crystal panel, so as to realize independent adjustment of the brightness of each backlight zone in the backlight module. The backlight module is driven by the backlight area adjustment technology, which not only can reduce the power consumption of the liquid crystal panel, but also can realize dynamic dimming of the backlight module. For high-brightness picture area, the brightness of the corresponding backlight zone can be increased, for dark picture area, the brightness of the corresponding backlight zone can be reduced, or even the backlight is turned off (black insertion), so as to improve the contrast of the displayed image and improve the display effect of the liquid crystal panel.
[0083] Based on the above introduction, it can be known that the number of backlight black insertion zones in the embodiment of the present disclosure can be the number of backlight zones or the number of display zones. That is, in the embodiment of the present disclosure, the number of backlight black insertions, the number of backlight zones and the number of display zones are consistent.
[0084] It can be understood that each frame of picture of the liquid crystal panel can include a plurality of basic pixels, each pixel can have independent color information, and the pixels are displayed by being scanned line by line by an electron gun. On this basis, the vertical blanking time of the embodiment of the present disclosure can be the time when the electron gun returns to the corner (for example, the upper left corner) of the display screen after drawing all the scanning lines to prepare for the next screen (frame) drawing.
[0085] The liquid crystal reaction time of the embodiments of the present disclosure can refer to a gray scale response time, that is, the time for a pixel in a liquid crystal panel to switch from one gray scale value (that is, a certain brightness) to another gray scale value.
[0086] Step S20. Determine a black frame insertion ratio of the frame to be displayed according to the refresh rate and parameters of the liquid crystal panel.
[0087] It should be noted that the black frame insertion ratio can be a ratio between the black frame insertion time and the frame time in the frame time (the holding time of each frame of picture, which is the sum of the display time and the black frame insertion time). For example, 1 frame time is 10 ms, and the black frame insertion time is 5 ms, so the black frame insertion ratio is 0.5; for another example, 1 frame time is 16 ms, and the black frame insertion time is 12 ms, so the black frame insertion ratio is 0.75.
[0088] In some embodiments, the black frame insertion ratio is in the range of 75%-90%, for example, 75%, 78%, 80%, 85%, 88%, 90%, etc.
[0089] Referring to FIG. 2, a detailed flowchart of step S20 of FIG. 1 is shown.
[0090] In some embodiments, the black frame insertion ratio is determined according to the refresh rate and the parameters of the liquid crystal panel, including:
[0091] Step S21. Determine a frame time of the frame to be displayed according to the refresh rate.
[0092] It can be understood that the frame time can be the inverse of the refresh rate. For example, the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is 60 Hz, and the frame time of the frame to be displayed is 16.67 ms. For another example, the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is 100 Hz, and the frame time of the frame to be displayed is 10 ms.
[0093] Step S22. Determine a minimum black frame insertion time of the frame to be displayed according to the number of backlight black frame insertion partitions, the vertical blanking time, the liquid crystal reaction time, and the frame time.
[0094] It can be understood that when the liquid crystal panel is in a variable refresh rate (VRR), although the refresh rate is in a dynamic change process, the refresh rate is always within a preset refresh rate range, that is, between a maximum refresh rate (for example, 240 Hz, 300 Hz, etc.) and a minimum refresh rate (for example, 60 Hz, 48 Hz, etc.). In this refresh rate range, in order to ensure that the liquid crystal panel still has good display effect, it is necessary to determine the minimum black frame insertion time, that is, the black frame insertion time of the backlight module for the frame of picture at least meets the minimum black frame insertion time.
[0095] In some embodiments, the determining the minimum black insertion time length of the frame to be displayed according to the number of backlight black insertion partitions, the vertical blanking time, the liquid crystal reaction time and the frame time length comprises:
[0096] The minimum black insertion time length is determined according to formula (1):
[0097]
[0098] In some embodiments, T s represents the minimum black insertion time length, T f represents the frame time length, T v represents the vertical blanking time, T r represents the liquid crystal reaction time, and n represents the number of backlight black insertion partitions.
[0099] As can be seen from formula (1), in the same display device, the number of backlight black insertion partitions, the vertical blanking time and the liquid crystal reaction time are fixed values, and thus the minimum black insertion time length of the frame to be displayed can be determined by the frame time length of the frame to be displayed.
[0100] Step S23. Determining a black insertion ratio of the frame to be displayed according to the minimum black insertion time length and the frame time length.
[0101] In some embodiments, the determining the black insertion ratio of the frame to be displayed according to the minimum black insertion time length and the frame time length comprises:
[0102] The black insertion ratio is determined according to formula (2):
[0103]
[0104] In some embodiments, T s represents the minimum black insertion time length, T f represents the frame time length, X represents the black insertion ratio, T b represents a constant, T b is greater than 0 and less than T f -T s .
[0105] It should be noted that T s +T b represents the total black insertion time length of the frame to be displayed. It can be understood that the greater the total black insertion time length, the greater the black insertion ratio, the shorter the display time length in the frame time length, the shorter the dynamic picture response time, the clearer the picture, the less the ghosting and the better the display effect. However, if the black insertion time length is too large, it will also affect the display effect to a certain extent, and thus the constant T b needs to be limited within a range.
[0106] In some embodiments, after the determining the black insertion ratio according to the minimum black insertion duration and the frame duration, the method further comprises:
[0107] Step S24. Acquire a dynamic picture maximum response time.
[0108] For example, the dynamic picture maximum response time is 1ms, that is, the dynamic picture response time less than 1ms has excellent display effect. In some other embodiments, the dynamic picture maximum response time can be other values, for example, 3ms, 5ms, etc., which can be designed according to the specific use requirements of the display device, and is not limited here.
[0109] Step S25. Set the constant T b to a preset value.
[0110] Step S26. Determine the dynamic picture response time of the frame to be displayed according to formula (3):
[0111]
[0112] MPRT represents the dynamic picture response time.
[0113] It can be understood that the constant T b is a known preset value at this time.
[0114] Step S27. Determine whether the dynamic picture response time is greater than the dynamic picture maximum response time. If the dynamic picture response time is greater than the dynamic picture maximum response time, adjust the constant T b to correct the black insertion ratio. If the dynamic picture response time is less than the dynamic picture maximum response time, the constant T b remains the preset value.
[0115] It can be understood that if the dynamic picture response time is greater than the dynamic picture maximum response time, it means that the currently calculated dynamic picture response time cannot have good display effect. On the basis of the minimum black insertion duration and the frame duration being determined, the size of the black insertion ratio is related to the constant T b . In order to simplify the calculation, the black insertion ratio can be corrected by adjusting the constant T b until the dynamic picture response time of the frame to be displayed is less than the dynamic picture maximum response time. If the dynamic picture response time of the frame to be displayed is less than the dynamic picture maximum response time, the constant T b can remain the preset value.
[0116] In some embodiments, the black insertion ratio of each frame of the display device is the same, that is, the black insertion ratio can be a fixed value, and only needs to ensure that the dynamic picture response time is less than the maximum dynamic picture response time at the fixed value, so as to ensure the display effect of the display device. When the black insertion ratio of the display device is a fixed value, the black insertion ratio can still be determined by formula (1) to formula (3), and only needs to ensure that the dynamic picture response time corresponding to the maximum refresh rate and the minimum refresh rate of the display device is less than the maximum dynamic picture response time.
[0117] Step S30. Providing a backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio.
[0118] It can be understood that, on the basis of determining the black insertion ratio, the backlight MCU can determine the time length of black insertion for the frame to be displayed in one frame of the liquid crystal panel according to the black insertion ratio, so as to determine the on time and off time of the LED in each backlight partition. That is, the backlight driving signal can be an on time signal and an off time signal of the LED in the backlight partition.
[0119] Referring to FIG. 3, a structure schematic diagram of display partitions and backlight partitions of an embodiment of the present disclosure is shown.
[0120] In some embodiments, the liquid crystal panel includes a plurality of display partitions 1, and the backlight module includes a plurality of backlight partitions 2, which correspond to the display partitions 1 one by one.
[0121] It should be noted that the black area in FIG. 3 represents that the backlight partition 2 performs black insertion on the display partition 1, and the white area represents that the backlight partition 2 provides backlight for the display partition 1.
[0122] For example, the backlight driving signal is provided for the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio, including:
[0123] Step S31. Providing the backlight driving signal for the backlight partition according to the black insertion ratio, so that the backlight partition performs black insertion on the corresponding display partition according to the black insertion ratio.
[0124] It can be understood that, in order to improve the display effect, each backlight partition of the embodiment of the present disclosure can perform black insertion on the corresponding display partition according to the black insertion ratio. Then, in the display time length of one frame of picture, different backlight partitions can be controlled to perform black insertion and provide backlight according to the different light and dark requirements of different regions of the picture.
[0125] In some embodiments, the backlight driving signal is provided for the backlight partition according to the black insertion ratio, so that the backlight partition performs black insertion on the corresponding display partition according to the black insertion ratio, including:
[0126] The backlight driving signals are provided to the backlight sub-regions at different times according to the black insertion ratio in a frame duration, so that at least two of the backlight sub-regions perform black insertion for the corresponding display sub-regions at different times according to the black insertion ratio in the frame duration, for example, each backlight sub-region performs black insertion for the corresponding display sub-region at different times according to the black insertion ratio.
[0127] It should be noted that the backlight driving signals are provided to the backlight sub-regions at different times according to the black insertion ratio can be that black insertion driving signals are provided to the backlight sub-regions at different times according to the black insertion ratio. That is, although black insertion is performed at different times by at least two backlight sub-regions, the black insertion duration of each backlight sub-region still satisfies the black insertion ratio in a frame duration. For example, the black insertion ratio is 0.8, backlight sub-region A performs black insertion in the first 1 ms to the eighth ms, backlight sub-region B performs black insertion in the second ms to the ninth ms, and backlight sub-region C performs black insertion in the third ms to the tenth ms in a frame duration of 10 ms.
[0128] It can be understood that the backlight MCU provides black insertion driving signals to the backlight sub-regions at different times, which can be achieved by the backlight MCU providing different signal forms to the backlight sub-regions. For example, the backlight sub-regions include backlight sub-region A, backlight sub-region B, and backlight sub-region C, and the frame duration is 10 ms. In the first 1 / 4 frame duration, the signal form provided to backlight sub-region A is "1", and the signal forms provided to backlight sub-region B and C are "0". In some embodiments, 1 represents providing backlight, and 0 represents performing black insertion. Thus, the black insertion time periods of the backlight sub-regions are staggered, and at least part of the screen of the liquid crystal panel is always in a bright screen state, so that the display screen does not appear to be completely black, thereby avoiding affecting the user experience.
[0129] In some embodiments, the liquid crystal flipping time periods of each of the display sub-regions are different and do not overlap in a frame duration.
[0130] It should be noted that the liquid crystal in the liquid crystal panel flips row by row from the top left corner to the bottom right corner of the screen, and it takes 1 frame time to flip from the first row to the last row. As known from the foregoing, the liquid crystal panel is divided into multiple display sub-regions in the row direction in the embodiments of the present disclosure. Since the liquid crystal flips row by row, the liquid crystal flipping time periods of each of the display sub-regions are different and do not overlap in a frame duration. For example, the frame duration is 16 ms, and there are 4 display sub-regions. The first display sub-region flips in the first ms to the fourth ms, the second display sub-region flips in the fifth ms to the eighth ms, the third display sub-region flips in the ninth ms to the twelfth ms, and the fourth display sub-region flips in the thirteenth ms to the sixteenth ms.
[0131] In some embodiments, the plurality of display partitions includes a first display partition and a second display partition, the second display partition being at least one other than the first display partition, and the plurality of backlight partitions includes a first backlight partition and a second backlight partition, the first backlight partition corresponding to the first display partition, and the second backlight partition being at least one other than the first backlight partition.
[0132] For example, in FIG. 3, there are 4 display partitions and 4 backlight partitions in the direction from top to bottom, the first display partition is taken as the first display partition, and at least one of the second to fourth display partitions is taken as the second display partition; the first backlight partition is taken as the first backlight partition, and at least one of the second to fourth backlight partitions is taken as the second backlight partition.
[0133] For example, the providing the backlight driving signal for the backlight partition according to the black insertion ratio includes:
[0134] In the liquid crystal flipping process of the first display partition, a first backlight driving signal is provided to the first backlight partition and a second backlight driving signal is provided to the second backlight partition according to the black insertion ratio; in some embodiments, the first backlight driving signal is used to control the first backlight partition to perform black insertion for the first display partition in the liquid crystal flipping process of the first display partition; the second backlight driving signal is used to control the second backlight partition to provide backlight for the corresponding second display partition in the liquid crystal flipping process of the first display partition; and the black insertion time length of the first backlight partition and the second backlight partition in the frame time length satisfies the black insertion ratio.
[0135] It can be understood that MPRT is used to improve trailing, and the reason for the existence of trailing is that: assuming that a video is divided into a static image, 60Hz is to display 60 static images in one second, and the object in the image changes 60 times in one second when moving at high speed, and the liquid crystal of the liquid crystal panel also flips 60 times correspondingly; if the backlight module provides backlight in the liquid crystal flipping process, that is, the backlight exists in brightness, the backlight will be mapped to the eyeball of the user through the liquid crystal panel, thereby causing the problem of dynamic blur.
[0136] Therefore, in order to eliminate dynamic blur and achieve better display effect, in the liquid crystal flipping process of the first display partition, the backlight of the corresponding first backlight partition is controlled to remain off, that is, black insertion is performed, and the second backlight partition is controlled to provide backlight, the second backlight partition being at least one other than the first backlight partition, that is, at least one of the other backlight partitions provides backlight for the display partition when the first backlight partition performs black insertion, so that at least part of the display partitions in the display screen maintain brightness, avoiding black screen and affecting user experience.
[0137] It can be understood that when the first backlight sub-area is inserted black, the more the number of the second backlight sub-area providing backlight, the greater the backlight brightness that can be provided for the whole liquid crystal panel, and the number of the second backlight sub-area providing backlight is different, the brightness loss brought by the number is also different, therefore, the current of the LED in the backlight sub-area can be different when the number of the second backlight sub-area is different, for example, the more the number of the second backlight sub-area, the smaller the current in each second backlight sub-area can be, which can be adjusted according to the need, which is not limited here.
[0138] It can be understood that, as shown in FIG. 3, when the display sub-area is 4, the liquid crystal flip time of the first display sub-area is 1 / 4 of the frame time, and the black insertion time of the first backlight sub-area during this period corresponds to the liquid crystal flip time, which is also 1 / 4 of the frame time. Assuming that the black insertion ratio is 3 / 4 of the frame time, then in one frame time, in addition to the black insertion during the liquid crystal flip time of the first display sub-area, the first backlight sub-area needs to insert black for another 2 / 4 frame time to meet the black insertion ratio.
[0139] In some embodiments, the second backlight sub-area is one of the plurality of backlight sub-areas other than the first backlight sub-area.
[0140] It can be understood that when the second backlight sub-area provides backlight, the backlight in the second backlight sub-area will diffuse outward, and the more the number of the second backlight sub-area, the greater the range of outward diffusion, which may spread to the first backlight sub-area, so that during the liquid crystal flip process of the first display sub-area, the backlight transmits from the first display sub-area and is mapped to the eyeball of a person, thereby causing a certain degree of dynamic blur. Therefore, in order to improve the display effect, the second backlight sub-area is set to one in the embodiments of the present disclosure, thereby reducing the influence on the first display sub-area, and in order to prevent the backlight provided by the second backlight sub-area from diffusing to the first backlight sub-area, the second backlight sub-area and the first backlight sub-area are spaced from each other, that is, at least one backlight sub-area is spaced between the second backlight sub-area and the first backlight sub-area.
[0141] For example, one frame of picture of the liquid crystal panel is divided into n display sub-areas (n is an integer >= 4), and the backlight scanning scheme corresponds to n-1, as follows:
[0142] Backlight scanning scheme 1: when the liquid crystal flips the i-th display sub-area (i<=n), the i+1-th backlight sub-area is turned on; when i+1>n, the i+1-n-th backlight sub-area is turned on.
[0143] Backlight scanning scheme 2: when the liquid crystal flips the i-th display sub-area (i<=n), the i+2-th backlight sub-area is turned on; when i+2>n, the i+2-n-th backlight sub-area is turned on.
[0144] Backlight scanning scheme 3: when the liquid crystal flips to the ith display partition (i<=n), the (i+3)th backlight partition is lit up; when i+3>n, the (i+3-n)th backlight partition is lit up.
[0145] For example: when n=4, when the liquid crystal flips to the 1st display partition, the 3rd backlight partition is lit up; when the liquid crystal flips to the 2nd display partition, the 4th backlight partition is lit up; when the liquid crystal flips to the 3rd display partition, the 1st backlight partition is lit up; when the liquid crystal flips to the 4th display partition, the 2nd backlight partition is lit up.
[0146] In order to understand the corresponding different second backlight partition lighting schemes in the liquid crystal flipping of the first display partition in the embodiments of the present disclosure, the following exemplary illustrates each scheme in the form of a table. In Table 1, B11-B16 refers to each first display partition, and B21-B16 refers to each second display partition.
[0147] Table 1: second backlight partition lighting scheme table
[0148]
[0149] Therefore, through the foregoing introduction, the embodiments of the present disclosure determine the black insertion ratio of the to-be-displayed frame through the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame and the parameters of the liquid crystal panel, that is, according to the refresh rate of the next frame of picture to be displayed by the liquid crystal panel, a backlight driving signal, such as a black insertion duration and a backlight providing duration signal, is provided for the backlight module, so that the backlight driving signal matches the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame, for example, the black insertion ratio matches the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame, or the refresh rate of the backlight driving signal matches the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame, thereby improving the display effect. In some embodiments, the refresh rate of the backlight driving signal matches the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame, which can be that the refresh rate of the backlight driving signal is consistent with the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame, or the refresh rate of the backlight driving signal is an integral multiple of the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame. In addition, the embodiments of the present disclosure stagger the black insertion period of each backlight partition, so that at least part of the screen of the liquid crystal panel is always in a bright screen state, thereby keeping the display screen from being completely black, and avoiding affecting the user experience. In some embodiments, in order to eliminate dynamic blur and achieve better display effect. In the liquid crystal flipping process of the first display partition, the backlight of the corresponding first backlight partition is controlled to remain off, that is, black insertion, and the second backlight partition is controlled to provide backlight, and the second backlight partition is at least one other than the first backlight partition, that is, at least one of the other backlight partitions provides backlight for the display partition when the first backlight partition is black inserted, so that at least part of the display partition of the display screen maintains brightness, avoiding black screen and affecting the user experience.
[0150] Based on the foregoing introduction, it can be known that the display time of each frame picture is reduced, i.e., the MPRT time is reduced, and the problem of dynamic blur is overcome by the method of inserting black frames. However, in the process of dynamic change of the refresh rate of the liquid crystal panel, the refresh rate will inevitably be at a lower refresh rate, for example, below 90 Hz. If the MPRT function of the liquid crystal panel is turned on, i.e., the screen is controlled to be bright for a period of time and dark for a period of time by PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) dimming, backlight flicker will occur at low frequency, for example, backlight flicker will occur when the frequency is below 90 Hz. In view of this, the following of the present disclosure describes how to solve the problem of backlight flicker on the basis of variable refresh rate and MPRT.
[0151] In some embodiments, after the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame of the liquid crystal panel is acquired, the method further includes:
[0152] When the refresh rate is less than or equal to a preset refresh rate, a target driving signal is provided to the backlight module, and the step of determining the black insertion ratio of the to-be-displayed frame according to the refresh rate and the parameters of the liquid crystal panel is not performed. In some embodiments, the preset refresh rate is greater than or equal to the refresh rate of the liquid crystal panel corresponding to the flicker of the backlight module. The target driving signal is used to control the backlight module to perform pulse (PWM) dimming and / or direct current (DC) dimming on the liquid crystal panel.
[0153] For example, the refresh rate of the liquid crystal panel corresponding to the flicker of the backlight module is 80 Hz, 90 Hz, etc. The preset refresh rate can be set to be slightly greater than the refresh rate corresponding to the flicker of the backlight module, for example, 100 Hz, so as to ensure that when the refresh rate is greater than the preset refresh rate, the problem of backlight flicker does not occur.
[0154] Therefore, after the backlight MCU of the present disclosure receives the refresh rate of the to-be-displayed frame sent by the liquid crystal panel, if the refresh rate is less than or equal to the preset refresh rate, the backlight MCU no longer controls the backlight module to insert black for the to-be-displayed frame, and pulse (PWM) dimming and / or direct current (DC) dimming is used at low frequency, so as to overcome the problem of backlight flicker.
[0155] Referring to FIG. 4, a flowchart of a backlight driving method according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is shown.
[0156] In some embodiments, before the backlight driving signal is provided to the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio, the method further includes:
[0157] Step S30A. Determine the backlight frequency multiplication factor of the to-be-displayed frame according to the refresh rate;
[0158] It should be noted that the backlight frequency multiplication factor refers to the number of times the backlight in the backlight partition is turned on within one frame duration. For example, when the backlight frequency multiplication factor is 2, the backlight partition is turned on twice within one frame duration, and the corresponding display partition presents the effect that the display partition can be bright once, dark once, bright once, and dark once within one frame duration.
[0159] In some embodiments, the determining the backlight frequency multiplication factor of the frame to be displayed according to the refresh rate comprises:
[0160] When the refresh rate is less than or equal to a preset refresh rate, the backlight frequency multiplication factor of the frame to be displayed is determined as m, and in some embodiments, m is a positive integer greater than or equal to 2, and the preset refresh rate is greater than or equal to the refresh rate of the liquid crystal panel corresponding to the backlight module flicker.
[0161] It can be understood that when the refresh rate is less than or equal to the preset refresh rate, the frequency of the light emitting device of the backlight module can be improved by performing frequency multiplication processing on the frame to be displayed, thereby avoiding the problem of low-frequency flicker.
[0162] It can be understood that when the refresh rate is less than or equal to the preset refresh rate, the backlight frequency multiplication factor of the frame to be displayed can be set according to actual needs, for example, it can be adjusted step by step until the backlight flicker no longer occurs.
[0163] Referring to FIG. 5, a detailed flowchart of step S30A of the embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. Referring to FIG. 6, a flowchart of the backlight driving method according to some other embodiments of the present disclosure is shown.
[0164] In some embodiments, the determining the backlight frequency multiplication factor of the frame to be displayed according to the refresh rate comprises:
[0165] Step S30A1. Obtain a plurality of preset refresh rate ranges, each of which corresponds to a frequency multiplication factor, and different preset refresh rate ranges correspond to different frequency multiplication factors.
[0166] Step S30A2. Match the refresh rate with a plurality of preset refresh rate ranges, and take the frequency multiplication factor corresponding to the matched preset refresh rate range as the backlight frequency multiplication factor of the frame to be displayed.
[0167] In some embodiments, the larger the minimum value of the preset refresh rate range, the smaller the corresponding frequency multiplication factor.
[0168] That is, the smaller the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is, the greater the backlight frequency multiplication factor is. For example, referring to FIG. 6, there are three preset refresh rate ranges, which are a first preset refresh rate range, a second preset refresh rate range and a third preset refresh rate range. First, it is determined whether the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is within the first preset refresh rate range. If the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is within the first preset refresh rate range, the backlight frequency multiplication factor is a first factor. If the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is not within the first preset refresh rate range, it is determined whether the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is within the second preset refresh rate range. If the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is within the second preset refresh rate range, the backlight frequency multiplication factor is a second factor. If the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is not within the second preset refresh rate range, it is determined whether the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is within the third preset refresh rate range. The backlight frequency multiplication factor is a third factor. In some embodiments, other ways can be used to determine in which preset refresh rate range the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is, which is not specifically limited here. In some embodiments, the preset refresh rate range can also be of other quantities, which is only taken three as an example here, and the specific quantity is not specifically limited.
[0169] It should be noted that, on the basis of frequency multiplication of the frame to be displayed, the backlight partition will be turned on at least twice within a frame duration, that is, the total black insertion duration is divided into at least two backlight subframe black insertion times. The backlight subframe black insertion time refers to the time for the backlight partition to insert black into the frame to be displayed once within a frame duration. For example, the frame duration is 20 ms, the black insertion ratio is 3 / 4, and the total black insertion duration is 15 ms. Assuming that the backlight frequency multiplication factor is 3, the backlight subframe black insertion time is 15 / 3 = 5 ms.
[0170] In some embodiments, before the backlight driving signal is provided for the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio and the backlight frequency multiplication factor, the method further includes:
[0171] Step S30A3. determining the frame duration of the frame to be displayed according to the refresh rate;
[0172] It can be understood that the frame duration can be the reciprocal of the refresh rate.
[0173] Step S30A4. determining the backlight subframe black insertion time of the frame to be displayed according to the frame duration, the black insertion ratio and the backlight frequency multiplication factor;
[0174] In some embodiments, the determination of the backlight subframe black insertion time of the frame to be displayed according to the frame duration, the black insertion ratio and the backlight frequency multiplication factor includes:
[0175] The backlight subframe black insertion time is determined according to the following formula (4):
[0176]
[0177] In some embodiments, Y represents the backlight subframe black insertion time, m represents the backlight frequency multiplication factor, T f represents the frame duration, X represents the black insertion ratio.
[0178] In step S30, the backlight driving signal is provided to the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio, including:
[0179] Step S40. The backlight driving signal is provided to the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio and the backlight frequency multiplication factor, for example, the backlight driving signal is provided to the backlight module according to the backlight subframe black insertion time and the backlight frequency multiplication factor.
[0180] Therefore, on the basis of inserting black into the frame to be displayed to overcome the problem of dynamic blur, the backlight of the frame to be displayed is multiplied, thereby avoiding the backlight flicker problem that occurs at low frequency under variable refresh rate.
[0181] Based on the foregoing introduction, it can be known that the method of inserting black frame is used to reduce the display time of each frame picture, i.e., to reduce the MPRT time, and to overcome the problem of dynamic blur. In addition, the backlight of the frame to be displayed is multiplied, thereby avoiding the backlight flicker problem that occurs at low frequency under variable refresh rate. However, the method of inserting black frame into the frame to be displayed shortens the backlight lighting time, resulting in reduced picture brightness. Therefore, the following description of the present disclosure explains how to solve the brightness reduction problem under the condition of inserting black frame.
[0182] Referring to FIG. 7, a flowchart of a backlight driving method according to some other embodiments of the present disclosure is shown.
[0183] In some embodiments, before the backlight driving signal is provided to the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio, the method further includes:
[0184] Step S30B. The current compensation factor of the frame to be displayed is determined according to the black insertion ratio.
[0185] It can be understood that, during the insertion of black, because the light-emitting time of the light-emitting device (LED) in the backlight module is shortened, the brightness will be suddenly reduced under the condition that the current is unchanged, at this time, the brightness can be ensured not to be reduced by increasing the current of the light-emitting device, therefore, the display brightness can be improved by multiplying the current of the light-emitting device. The current compensation multiple of the frame to be displayed refers to the multiple of the multiplication of the current of the frame to be displayed. During the process of the partition scanning, the average current during the insertion of black is not reduced and the brightness is not reduced by increasing the current of the backlight partition. At the same time, due to the partition scanning, the total instantaneous power consumption of the backlight is not increased. It should be noted that, during the partition scanning, the current of the backlight partition is increased when the backlight partition is lighted.
[0186] It should be noted that, when the display device does not perform the insertion of black, each backlight partition has a basic current, for example, 4 mA, 5 mA, 10 mA, etc. When the display device performs the insertion of black, the lighting time of each backlight partition is reduced, so the current of the backlight partition is increased when the backlight partition is lighted, and the current compensation multiple can refer to the multiple of the multiplication of the basic current, for example, 4 times, 5 times, 6 times, etc.
[0187] In some embodiments, the current compensation multiple of the frame to be displayed is determined according to the insertion of black ratio, comprising:
[0188] The current compensation multiple is determined according to the following formula (5):
[0189]
[0190] In some embodiments, A represents the current compensation multiple, and A is less than or equal to the maximum current compensation multiple, and X represents the insertion of black ratio.
[0191] It can be understood that, because the light-emitting device will be damaged under a large current, the light conversion efficiency is less than 1, therefore, the current compensation multiple is set to A times, which may not actually reach A times, therefore, in actual application, the current compensation multiple can be increased on the basis of A times to keep the brightness unchanged.
[0192] That is, when the insertion of black ratio is determined, the influence of the insertion of black ratio on the maximum current compensation multiple and the maximum response time of the dynamic picture should be considered. Because the larger the insertion of black ratio is, the longer the total insertion of black time is, the smaller the dynamic picture response time is, and the better the visual effect is, but the longer the total insertion of black time is, the greater the brightness decrease is, in order to ensure that the brightness does not decrease, the current needs to be increased, the current compensation multiple is proportional to the insertion of black ratio, and the current compensation multiple needs to be less than or equal to the maximum current compensation multiple due to the limitation of the chip and the circuit design, therefore, a suitable insertion of black ratio needs to be found to ensure that the dynamic picture response time is less than the maximum response time of the dynamic picture and the current does not exceed the standard.
[0193] In some embodiments, the providing the backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio comprises:
[0194] Step S50. Providing the backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio and the current compensation multiple.
[0195] In some embodiments, the providing the backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio comprises:
[0196] Providing the backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio, the backlight frequency multiplication multiple and the current compensation multiple.
[0197] From the above introduction, it can be known that one or more problems such as dynamic blur, backlight flicker and brightness reduction may occur in the process of black insertion of the backlight module.
[0198] FIG. 8 shows another flowchart of a backlight driving method according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0199] In some embodiments, the providing the backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the black insertion ratio comprises:
[0200] Step S61. Determining the frequency multiplication information of the to-be-displayed frame according to the refresh rate and the black insertion ratio.
[0201] The frequency multiplication information of the to-be-displayed frame comprises a backlight frequency multiplication multiple of the to-be-displayed frame and a current compensation multiple of the to-be-displayed frame. Step S61 comprises the following step S611 and step S612.
[0202] Step S611. Determining the backlight frequency multiplication multiple of the to-be-displayed frame according to the refresh rate.

[0205] Step S62. Determining the backlight sub-frame black insertion time of the to-be-displayed frame according to the refresh rate, the black insertion ratio and the frequency multiplication information.
[0206] In some embodiments, the determining the backlight sub-frame black insertion time of the to-be-displayed frame according to the refresh rate, the black insertion ratio and the frequency multiplication information comprises:
[0207] The backlight sub-frame black insertion time of the frame to be displayed is determined according to the backlight frequency multiplication factor of the frame to be displayed, the frame duration of the frame to be displayed, and the black insertion ratio of the frame to be displayed, wherein the frame duration is determined according to the refresh rate.
[0208] The principle that the backlight sub-frame black insertion time of the frame to be displayed is determined according to the backlight frequency multiplication factor of the frame to be displayed, the frame duration of the frame to be displayed, and the black insertion ratio of the frame to be displayed can refer to the foregoing, and details are not described herein.
[0209] Step S63. Providing a backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the frequency multiplication information and the backlight sub-frame black insertion time.
[0210] In some embodiments, the step of providing a backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the frequency multiplication information and the backlight sub-frame black insertion time comprises:
[0211] Providing a backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the backlight frequency multiplication factor, the current compensation factor, and the backlight black insertion time.
[0212] Therefore, the backlight driving method of the embodiments of the present disclosure can effectively improve the dynamic blur of the backlight of the display device, and can stabilize the brightness of the backlight and solve the problem of backlight flicker at low gray scale by frequency multiplication of the backlight and increase of the current.

The processing module 302 is further configured to provide a backlight driving signal for a backlight module according to the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed, the frequency multiplication information of the frame to be displayed and the backlight sub-frame black insertion time of the frame to be displayed.
[0217] FIG. 10 shows a structural block diagram of a display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0218] According to a third aspect of the present disclosure, a display apparatus 400 is provided, comprising a backlight module and the backlight driving apparatus 400 described above, wherein the backlight driving apparatus provides a backlight driving signal for the backlight module.
[0219] The display apparatus 400 can be a mobile phone, a television, a display, a tablet computer, a navigator or the like product or component having a display function.
[0220] Referring to FIG. 11, a structural block diagram of a backlight driving system according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is shown.
[0221] According to a second aspect of the present disclosure, a backlight driving system 200 is provided, which is applied to a display apparatus comprising a liquid crystal panel and a backlight module stacked together, and the system 200 comprises a first processor 201 and a second processor 202 which are communicatively connected to each other, wherein the first processor 201 is configured to be arranged in the liquid crystal panel, and the second processor 202 is configured to be arranged in the second processor.
[0222] The first processor 201 is configured to send a refresh rate of a frame to be displayed of the liquid crystal panel to the second processor 202.
[0223] The second processor 202 is configured to acquire the refresh rate and parameters of the liquid crystal panel, determine a black frame insertion ratio of the frame to be displayed according to the refresh rate and the parameters of the liquid crystal panel, and provide a backlight driving signal for the backlight module according to the black frame insertion ratio.
[0224] For example, the first processor 201 is a chip Scaler IC, and the second processor 202 is a backlight MCU. The communication and interaction process between the first processor and the second processor is described.
[0225] Please refer to FIG. 12, which shows a signal transmission schematic diagram in the embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0226] As shown in FIG. 12, after receiving the image information, the chip Scaler IC sends the data update identification signal Vsync and the MOSI signal to the backlight MCU through the SPI protocol. In some embodiments, the MOSI signal includes the brightness data of the frame to be displayed and the refresh rate data of the frame to be displayed. The backlight MCU analyzes the MOSI signal to obtain the control signal TX_DI, and sends the control signal TX_DI to the LED driver. The LED driver analyzes the control signal TX_DI and transmits the backlight driving signal RX_CH to the LED lamp bead, so that the LED lamp bead is turned on and off according to the signal provided by the backlight driving signal RX_CH. In some embodiments, when RX_CH = H, the LED lamp bead is turned off; when RX_CH = L, the LED lamp bead is turned on.
[0227] For example, in the test link, the refresh rate of OC (liquid crystal panel) is quickly switched from low refresh rate to high refresh rate (such as 60Hz to 180Hz). An oscilloscope is used to measure the waveform diagram when the refresh rate is switched, and whether the waveform is synchronized to change from 60Hz to 180Hz is observed. If yes, it proves that the Scalar IC / TCON sends the frame refresh rate information to the backlight MCU synchronously.
[0228] It can be understood that after the chip Scaler IC receives the image information, the backlight brightness signal and the frame frequency signal (the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed) can be formed by encoding, and the MOSI signal and the Vsync signal are sent to the backlight MCU through the specified SPI format and timing requirements. In some embodiments, the MOSI signal includes the backlight brightness signal and the frame frequency signal, and the Vsync is a data update identification signal. The Vsync signal is used as a flag for frame picture update to notify the backlight MCU. The backlight MCU forms the control signal TX_DI by decoding and sends the control signal TX_DI to the LED driver.
[0229] It should be noted that the chip Scaler IC can first send the frame frequency signal Vsync to the backlight MCU, and then send the MOSI signal to the backlight MCU through the SPI protocol. In some embodiments, when the data update identification signal Vsync changes from low level to high level, it means that the next frame signal is coming.
[0230] FIGS. 13-15 show the black insertion schematic diagram of RX_CH when the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is in different ranges. In FIGS. 13-15, when the high and low levels in RX_CH are alternated, it is a normal display period, and when the high level signal is continuous in a frame, it is a black insertion period.
[0231] In FIG. 13, the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is in a first preset refresh rate range, for example, greater than or equal to 48 Hz and less than or equal to 60 Hz, the backlight frequency multiplication number is 3, RX_CH has three times of black insertion, three times of display, and the length of each black insertion is 1 / 4 of the frame length of the frame to be displayed, and the length of each display is 1 / 12 of the frame length of the frame to be displayed. The backlight is multiplied to increase the frequency of the backlight to avoid the human eye from seeing the backlight flicker.
[0232] For example, in the test link, the refresh rate of the liquid crystal panel can be adjusted to below 100 Hz, an oscilloscope is used for testing, the output pin of the LED driver of the lamp area backlight is controlled, and the waveform is observed. If the waveform in a frame is a waveform of a fixed frequency or a fixed value, it can be determined that the DC / PWM dimming mode is turned on. If the signal in a frame fluctuates n times, it can be determined that n times of frequency multiplication is turned on. For example, in FIG. 10, it can be seen that the waveform of the output pin (RX-IC) of the LED driver oscillates three times in 1 frame (Frame) time, indicating that it is 3 times of frequency multiplication.
[0233] In FIG. 14, the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is in a second preset refresh rate range, for example, greater than or equal to 61 Hz and less than or equal to 99 Hz, the backlight frequency multiplication number is 2, RX_CH has two times of black insertion, two times of display, and the length of each black insertion is 3 / 8 of the frame length of the frame to be displayed, and the length of each display is 1 / 8 of the frame length of the frame to be displayed. The backlight is multiplied to increase the frequency of the backlight to avoid the human eye from seeing the backlight flicker.
[0234] In FIG. 15, the refresh rate of the frame to be displayed is in a third preset refresh rate range, for example, greater than or equal to 100 Hz and less than or equal to 240 Hz, the backlight frequency multiplication number is 1, RX_CH has one time of black insertion, one time of display, and the length of each black insertion is 3 / 4 of the frame length of the frame to be displayed, and the length of each display is 1 / 4 of the frame length of the frame to be displayed. That is, in the third preset refresh rate range, the backlight is no longer multiplied.
[0235] It should be noted that the first preset refresh rate range, the second preset refresh rate range, and the third preset refresh rate range defined above are only illustrative examples, and in some embodiments, the number of preset refresh rate ranges, the range of the preset refresh rate, and the corresponding backlight frequency multiplication number are not specifically limited here, and can be designed according to the use requirements in some embodiments.
