Abstract
A sealing ring is used for refurbished containers with closed flanges to replace the original sealing gasket that has been lost or damaged during the refurbishment process. The ring includes an end wall having: (a) a radially inner portion that matches the surface profile of the flange crimp of the closed flange; and (b) a radially outer portion that radiates from the flange crimp surface profile and extends radially outward beyond its outer diameter. The annular outer wall and the radially outer portion of the end wall together define an enlarged volume occupied by the sealing gasket. As the sealing ring is rolled over the flange crimp, the sealing gasket is compressed to provide a seal between the flange recess neck and the flange crimp outer diameter.
