Abstract
Description
BackgroundField of the invention
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a transparent display device. Discussion of the state of the art
[0002] With the advancement of the information age, the demand for display devices for displaying images in various forms has increased. Therefore, various types of display devices, such as liquid crystal display (LCD), plasma display panel (PDP), organic light-emitting display (OLED), and quantum dot light-emitting display (QLED), have been used recently.
[0003] Recently, studies on a transparent display device are actively underway, where a user can view objects or images positioned on an opposite side because the display device is translucent.
[0004] The transparent display device includes a display area on which an image is displayed and a non-display area including a bezel area. The display area may include a transmissive area that can transmit external light and a non-transmissive area. The transparent display device may have high light transmittance through the transmissive area of the display area, and a light-emitting area may be arranged in the non-transmissive area.
[0005] The transparent display device can be manufactured by bonding a lower substrate having a light-emitting region and a transmitting region to an upper substrate arranged to face the lower substrate using an opaque adhesive. Since the opaque adhesive is positioned in the non-display region, when multiple transparent display devices are arranged adjacent to each other, it disrupts the uniformity of the transparent display devices.
[0006] Therefore, a transparent adhesive is used instead of the opaque adhesive positioned in the non-display area, and circuits positioned in the non-display area are made transparent to improve uniformity. However, there is a problem of a visibility difference between the non-display area and the display area due to a different structure (e.g., there is no transmissive area in the non-display area, unlike the display area).
[0007] US 2021 / 0202683 A1 describes a transparent display device comprising a substrate having a display region in which a plurality of subpixels are arranged, and a non-display region adjacent to the display region, a gate driver provided in the non-display region above the substrate and comprising a plurality of stages, a metal line between the gate driver and the display region, and a trench between the metal line and the display region. In one example, a transmissive region is arranged in the display region between the pixel current line and the common current line of a pixel. Third transmissive regions are arranged in a second non-display region. An encapsulation layer is provided over the light-emitting diodes of the display region. A first substrate provided with the encapsulation layer and a second substrate provided with a color filter layer are connected to each other by an adhesive layer. The encapsulation layer and the adhesive layer are also present in the second non-display region where the third transmissive regions are arranged.
[0008] US 2021 / 0143220 A1 describes a display panel comprising a glass substrate with an opening region and a display region at least partially surrounding the opening region; a thin-film transistor on the display region having a semiconductor layer and a gate electrode; a display element electrically connected to the thin-film transistor; and a multilayer comprising an insulating layer and a lower insulating layer. The insulating layer is located between the glass substrate and the display element, and the lower insulating layer is located between the glass substrate and the insulating layer. A thin-film encapsulation layer covers the display element and comprises an inorganic encapsulation layer and an organic encapsulation layer. The multilayer comprises a first groove between the opening region and the display region. A component, such as a camera or a sensor, can be arranged in or below the opening region. Summary
[0009] The present disclosure has been made in view of the above problems, and it is an object of the present disclosure to provide a transparent display device that can reduce a visibility difference between a non-display area and a display area.
[0010] In addition to the above-mentioned objects of the present disclosure, additional objects and features of the present disclosure will become apparent to those skilled in the art from the following description of the present disclosure. [0034] Reference will now be made in detail to the embodiments of the present disclosure, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Wherever possible, the same reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or similar parts.
[0035] Advantages and features of the present disclosure and methods of implementation thereof will become more apparent from the following embodiments, which are described with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, the present disclosure may be embodied in various forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art.
[0036] Shapes, sizes, ratios, angles, and numbers disclosed in the drawings to describe embodiments of the present disclosure are merely examples, and thus, the present disclosure is not limited to the details illustrated. Like reference numerals refer to like elements throughout. In the following description, if it is determined that the detailed description of the relevant known function or configuration unnecessarily obscures the important point of the present disclosure, the detailed description will be omitted.
[0037] If "comprise," "comprise," and "include" are used as described in this specification, another part may be added unless "only" is used. The singular terms may include plural forms unless otherwise noted.
[0038] When designing an element, the element is designed to contain a fault zone, even if there is no explicit description of it.
[0039] For example, when describing a positional relationship, if a positional relationship between two parts is described as 'on~', 'over~', 'under~' and 'next to~', one or more other parts may be located between the two parts unless 'immediately' or 'directly' is used.
[0040] When describing a temporal relationship, if the temporal order is described as "after", "subsequent", "next", and "before", a case may be included that is not continuous unless "immediate" or "direct" is used.
[0041] It should be understood that while the terms "first," "second," etc., may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements are not intended to be limited by these terms. These terms are used only to distinguish one element from another. For example, a first element could be referred to as a second element, and similarly, a second element could be referred to as a first element, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.
[0042] "X-axis direction," "Y-axis direction," and "Z-axis direction" are not intended to be construed as a geometric relationship solely in terms of a mutually vertical relationship and may have a broader directional dependency within the range in which elements of the present disclosure may function functionally.
[0043] The term "at least one" should be understood to include any and all combinations of one or more of the listed elements associated therewith. For example, the meaning of "at least one of a first element, a second element, and a third element" refers to the combination of any two or more of the first element, the second element, and the third element, as well as the first element, the second element, or the third element.
[0044] Features of various embodiments of the present disclosure may be partially or entirely coupled or combined with one another and may interact and be technically controlled in various ways, as would be readily understood by those skilled in the art. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be practiced independently of one another or may be practiced together in a dependent relationship.
[0045] Hereinafter, the preferred embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0046] Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a transparent display device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure; Fig. 2 is a plan view showing a first substrate, a source driving IC, a flexible film, a circuit board and a timing controller of Fig. 1 represents, Fig. 3 is a schematic plan view illustrating the first substrate; Fig. 4 is a schematic cross-sectional view along the Fig. 3 shown line I-I', Fig. Fig. 5 is a schematic enlarged view showing a section A of Fig. 3 shows, Fig. 6 is a schematic cross-sectional view along the Fig. 5 shown line II-II' and Fig. Fig. 7 is a schematic enlarged view showing a section B of Fig. 6 represents.
[0047] Hereinafter, the following description is based on the assumption that a transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is an organic light-emitting display device, but is not limited thereto. That is, the transparent display device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure can be implemented as any of a liquid crystal display device, a field emission display device, a quantum dot light-emitting diode device, and an electrophoretic display device, as well as the organic light-emitting display device.
[0048] With reference to Fig. 1 to 7, the display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include a display panel DP having a gate driver GD, a source drive integrated circuit (hereinafter referred to as "source drive IC", which may also be referred to as a data driver) 130, a flexible film 140, a circuit board 150, and a timing controller 160.
[0049] The display panel DP may include a substrate 110 (ie, a first substrate 100) and an opposite substrate 120 (ie, a second substrate 120) bonded together.
[0050] Substrate 110 may include a thin-film transistor and may be a transistor array substrate, a bottom substrate, a base substrate, or a first substrate. Substrate 110 may be a transparent glass substrate or a transparent plastic substrate. For example, substrate 110 may be a transparent glass substrate. Hereinafter, substrate 110 is defined as the first substrate.
[0051] The opposite substrate 120 can be connected to the first substrate 110 via a transparent connecting element TD (shown in Fig. 6). For example, the opposing substrate 120 may be smaller in size than the first substrate 110 and may be bonded to the remaining portion except for the pad region PA of the first substrate 110. The transparent bonding member TD may be an adhesive member (or transparent adhesive). The opposing substrate 120 may be an upper substrate, a second substrate, or an encapsulating substrate. The opposing substrate 120 may be bonded to a first surface of the first substrate 110 by a substrate bonding process using an adhesive member. Hereinafter, the opposing substrate 120 is defined as a second substrate.
[0052] The first substrate 110 according to an example may include a display region DA and a non-display region NDA.
[0053] The display area DA is an area where an image is displayed and may be a pixel array area, an active area, a pixel array unit, a display unit, or a screen. For example, the display area DA may be located in a central portion of the display panel DP.
[0054] The display area DA may include, according to one example, gate lines, data lines, pixel drive power lines, and a plurality of pixels P. Each of the plurality of pixels P may include a plurality of sub-pixels SP, which may be defined by the gate lines and the data lines, and a first transmissive portion TR1 arranged to be adjacent to some or all of the plurality of sub-pixels SP. The first transmissive portion TR1 is a region provided to allow light to pass through a front and rear surface of the display panel DP. Therefore, a user located toward the front surface of the display panel DP can view an image or a background positioned toward the rear surface of the display panel DP through the first transmissive portion TR1. The plurality of pixels P may be arranged in the display area DA.Each of the plurality of pixels P has a first transmissive portion TR1.
[0055] Each of the multiple subpixels SP can be defined as the minimum unit area in which light is actually emitted.
[0056] According to one example, at least four sub-pixels arranged to be adjacent to each other among the plurality of sub-pixels SP, or four sub-pixels arranged to be adjacent to each other along a longitudinal direction of the gate line (or data line), and a first transmissive portion TR1 constitute a unit pixel. A unit pixel may include, but is not limited to, a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel, a white sub-pixel, and a first transmissive portion TR1. For example, a unit pixel may include at least two or more red sub-pixels, at least two or more green sub-pixels, at least two or more blue sub-pixels, at least two or more white sub-pixels, and at least two or more first transmissive portions TR1.
[0057] According to another example, three sub-pixels arranged to be adjacent to each other among the plurality of sub-pixels SP, or three sub-pixels arranged to be adjacent to each other along the longitudinal direction of the gate line (or data line), and a first transmissive portion TR1 constitute a unit pixel. A unit pixel may include, but is not limited to, at least one or more red sub-pixels, at least one or more green sub-pixels, at least one or more blue sub-pixels, and at least one or more first transmissive portions TR1.
[0058] Each of the plurality of sub-pixels SP includes a thin-film transistor and a light-emitting portion connected to the thin-film transistor. The light-emitting portion may include a layer of light-emitting elements (or organic light-emitting layer) disposed between a first electrode and a second electrode.
[0059] The layers of light-emitting elements respectively arranged in the plurality of sub-pixels SP can individually emit light of their respective colors, which are different from each other, or collectively emit white light. According to one example, when the layers of light-emitting elements of the plurality of sub-pixels SP collectively emit white light, each of the red sub-pixel, the green sub-pixel, and the blue sub-pixel can include a color filter (or a wavelength conversion element) for converting white light into light of the other color. In this case, the white sub-pixel according to one example can not include a color filter. According to another example, at least a part of the white sub-pixel can include the same color filter as any of the red sub-pixel, the green sub-pixel, and the blue sub-pixel.
[0060] Each of the sub-pixels SP supplies a predetermined current to the organic light-emitting element according to a data voltage of the data line when a gate signal is input from the gate line using the thin-film transistor. For this reason, the light-emitting portion of each of the sub-pixels can emit light with a predetermined brightness according to the predetermined current. A structure of each of the sub-pixels SP will be described later with reference to Fig. 4 described.
[0061] The non-display area (NDA) may be an area where no image is displayed, and may be a peripheral circuit area, a signal supply area, a non-active area, or a bezel area. The non-display area (NDA) may be configured to surround the display area (DA). That is, the non-display area (NDA) may be arranged to surround the display area (DA).
[0062] The transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include a second transmissive portion TR2 provided in the non-display area NDA.
[0063] The second transmissive portion TR2, like the first transmissive portion TR1, is an area provided to allow light to pass through the front and rear surfaces of the display panel DP. Therefore, a user located toward the front surface of the display panel DP can view an image or background positioned toward the rear surface of the display panel DP even through the second transmissive portion TR2 provided in the non-display area NDA.
[0064] As a result, since the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure transmits an image or a background arranged in the direction of the front surface or the back surface of the display panel DP through the first transmissive portion TR1 provided in the display area DA and the second transmissive portion TR2 provided in the non-display area NDA, the light transmittance can be improved more than in the case where the transmissive portion is provided only in the display area.Furthermore, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided in the non-display area NDA in the same manner as the first transmissive portion TR1 is provided in the display area DA, the display area DA and the non-display area NDA are provided in a similar structure, whereby a visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA can be reduced and thus visibility properties of the entire screen can be prevented from deteriorating.
[0065] With further reference to Fig. 3, the non-display region NDA may be arranged at an edge portion of the display panel DP. The non-display region NDA may, according to one example, include first to fourth non-display regions arranged at an edge portion of the first substrate 110. For example, the non-display region NDA may include a first non-display region arranged on or in contact with a first side of the display region DA, a second non-display region arranged on or in contact with a second side of the display region DA, a third non-display region arranged on or in contact with a third side of the display region DA that is parallel to the second side of the display region DA, and a fourth non-display region arranged on or in contact with a fourth side of the display region DA that is parallel to the first side of the display region DA.For example, the first and fourth non-display regions may each be parallel to a first direction X, and the second and third non-display regions may each be parallel to a second direction Y that intersects (or is perpendicular to) the first direction X.
[0066] Each of the non-display regions NDA may include a contact pad region PA. The contact pad region PA may be disposed on at least one of the first to fourth non-display regions exposed to the outside without being covered by the second substrate 120 of the non-display region NDA. For example, the contact pad region may be disposed in the first non-display region. In this case, the gate driver GD, as shown in Fig. 3, may be arranged in the second and third non-display regions. A power distribution line for supplying a power source to the display region DA may be arranged in the fourth non-display region. The fourth non-display region may be a non-pad portion NP in which the pad region PA is not arranged.
[0067] A plurality of contact pads (not shown) may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other along the first direction X in the contact pad area PA. Each of the plurality of contact pads may include a plurality of data pads, at least one pixel drive power pad, and a plurality of common power pads.
[0068] The gate driver GD supplies gate signals to the gate lines according to the gate control signal input from the timing controller 160. The gate driver GD can be formed on one side of the display area DA of the display panel DP or on the non-display area NDA outside both sides of the display area DA in a gate driver-in-panel (GIP) method, as shown in Fig. 3. Alternatively, the gate driver GD may be fabricated as a drive chip, packaged in a flexible film, and attached to the non-display area NDA outside one side or both sides of the display area DA of the display panel DP by a tape-automated bonding (TAB) method. The gate driver GD may include multiple gate drive circuits. Hereinafter, the non-display area NDA in which the gate driver GD is included is referred to as a GIP area GDA (shown in Fig. 6). The GIP area GDA can have multiple GIP sections 200 and multiple GIP lines 210.
[0069] The plurality of gate drive circuits may be arranged, i.e., divided and arranged separately, on a left side of the display area DA, i.e., the second non-display area, and on a right side of the display area DA, i.e., the GIP area GDA of each of the third non-display areas. According to one example, the gate drive circuit arranged in the second non-display area may be electrically connected to each of the gate lines arranged in the display area DA, and the gate drive circuit arranged in the third non-display area may be electrically connected to each of the gate lines arranged in the display area DA. For example, the gate drive circuit of the second non-display area may be connected to one side of each of the gate lines, and the gate drive circuit of the third non-display area may be connected to the other side of each of the gate lines.
[0070] According to another example, the gate drive circuit of the second non-display region may be electrically connected to each of the odd-numbered (or even-numbered) gate lines of the gate lines arranged in the display region DA, and the gate drive circuit of the third non-display region may be electrically connected to each of the even-numbered (or odd-numbered) gate lines of the gate lines arranged in the display region DA. For example, the gate drive circuit of the second non-display region may be connected to one side of each of the odd-numbered gate lines, and the gate drive circuit of the third non-display region may be connected to the other side of each of the even-numbered gate lines.
[0071] The plurality of gate drive circuits may output gate control signals supplied from the plurality of contact pads and gate signals sequentially shifted based on gate circuit drive power sources. For this purpose, each of the plurality of gate drive circuits may include a plurality of GIP sections 200 (shown in Fig. 6). The GIP section 200 may, according to one example, be a thin-film transistor of the gate driver GD.
[0072] According to one example, the plurality of GIP sections 200 may be arranged to surround the second transmissive section TR2. As shown, for example, in Fig. 6 and Fig. As shown in Figure 7, two or more of the plurality of GIP portions 200 may be arranged to surround the second transmissive portion TR2 while being adjacent to the second transmissive portion TR2. The transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is arranged so that the second transmissive portion TR2 does not overlap the plurality of GIP portions 200, whereby the light transmittance of the second transmissive portion TR2 can be further improved.
[0073] The plurality of GIP sections 200 may have a similar structure to the thin-film transistor 112 of the pixel P. Therefore, the description of the plurality of GIP sections 200 will be described in conjunction with the description of the thin-film transistor 112 of the pixel P.
[0074] With further reference to Fig. 2, the source drive IC 130 receives digital video data and a source control signal from the timing controller 160. The source drive IC 130 converts the digital video data into analog data voltages according to the source control signal and supplies the analog data voltages to the data lines. When the source drive IC 130 is fabricated as a drive chip, the source drive IC 130 can be packaged in the flexible film 140 using a chip-on-film (COF) or a chip-on-plastic (COP) process.
[0075] Contact pads, such as data pads, may be formed in the non-display area NDA of the display panel DP. Lines connecting the contact pads to the source drive IC 130 and lines connecting the contact pads to lines of the circuit board 150 may be formed in the flexible film 140, allowing the contact pads to be connected to the lines of the flexible film 140.
[0076] The circuit board 150 may be attached to the flexible films 140. A plurality of circuits implemented as drive chips may be packaged in the circuit board 150. For example, the timing controller 160 may be packaged in the circuit board 150. The circuit board 150 may be a printed circuit board or a flexible printed circuit board.
[0077] Timing controller 160 receives the digital video data and a timing signal from an external system board through a cable of circuit board 150. Timing controller 160 generates a gate control signal for controlling an operating timing of gate driver GD and a source control signal for controlling source drive ICs 130 based on the clock signal. Timing controller 160 supplies the gate control signal to gate driver GD and supplies the source control signal to source drive ICs 130.
[0078] With reference to Fig. 3, the first transmissive portion TR1 may be arranged to be adjacent to at least a portion of the plurality of sub-pixels SP, and may be included in one pixel P. Since the plurality of pixels P are provided in the display area DA, a plurality of the first transmissive portions TR1 may be provided in the display area DA. Although the first transmissive portion TR1 in Fig. 3 is shown as being provided in a rectangular shape, the first permeable portion TR1 is not limited thereto. The first permeable portion TR1 may be provided in various shapes. For example, the first permeable portion TR1 may be provided in a shape similar to the second permeable portion TR2 shown in Fig. 5, has a concave portion CP and a convex portion PP.
[0079] Likewise, according to an example, the second permeable portion TR2 may be provided in the same shape as the first permeable portion TR1. In this case, the same shape means the same configuration and is not intended to mean the same size (or area). However, the present disclosure is not necessarily limited to this example, and the second permeable portion TR2 may be provided not only in the same shape but also in the same size (or area) as the first permeable portion TR1.
[0080] The transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is provided such that the second transmissive portion TR2 is disposed in the non-display area NDA, so that the overall light transmittance can be improved and a visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA can be reduced. Specifically, since the first transmissive portion TR1 of each of the plurality of pixels P is disposed in the display area DA and the second transmissive portion TR2 is disposed in the non-display area NDA, the transmissivity of the transparent display device 100 can be improved and the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA can be reduced. Therefore, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a user located toward the front surface of the transparent display device 100 can see a background or an image positioned toward the rear surface of the transparent display device 100 without a gap between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA.
[0081] Furthermore, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided to have the same shape as the first transmissive portion TR1, the display area DA and the non-display area NDA can be formed in a similar structure to further reduce the visibility difference therebetween, whereby a user can more holistically view a background or an image through the display area DA and the non-display area NDA.
[0082] In the following, a sub-pixel SP of the display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 described.
[0083] With reference to Fig. 4, the display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include a buffer layer BL disposed on the first substrate 110 and preventing water from penetrating into the thin film transistor 112.
[0084] Furthermore, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, each of the sub-pixels SP may include a circuit element layer 111 provided on an upper surface of the buffer layer BL and including a gate insulating layer 111a, an interlayer insulating layer 111b, a protective layer 111c, and a thin-film transistor 112; a planarization layer 113 provided on the circuit element layer 111; a first electrode 114 provided on the planarization layer 113; a bank 115; an organic light-emitting layer 116; a second electrode 117; a cap layer 118; and an encapsulation layer 119. The first electrode 114, the organic light-emitting layer 116, and the second electrode 117 may be included in the light-emitting element.
[0085] The buffer layer BL may be formed between the first substrate 110 and the gate insulating layer 111a to protect the thin-film transistor 112. The buffer layer BL may be disposed entirely on a surface (or front surface) of the first substrate 110. The buffer layer BL may serve to prevent a material contained in the first substrate 110 from diffusing into a transistor layer during a high-temperature process of the thin-film transistor manufacturing process. Optionally, the buffer layer BL may be omitted if necessary.
[0086] The circuit element layer 111 may include a gate insulating layer 111a, an interlayer insulating layer 111b, a protective layer 111c, and a thin film transistor 112.
[0087] The thin film transistor 112 according to an example may include an active layer 112a, a gate electrode 112b, a source electrode 112c, and a drain electrode 112d.
[0088] The active layer 112a may include a channel region, a drain region, and a source region formed in a thin-film transistor region of a circuit region of the pixel P. The drain region and the source region may be spaced apart from each other with the channel region disposed therebetween.
[0089] The active layer 112a may be formed of a semiconductor material based on any of amorphous silicon, polycrystalline silicon, oxide, and organic material.
[0090] The gate insulating layer 111a may be formed on the channel region of the active layer 112a. For example, the gate insulating layer 111a may be formed in an island shape only on the channel region of the active layer 112a, or may be formed on an entire front surface of the first substrate 110 or the buffer layer BL including the active layer 112a.
[0091] The gate electrode 112b may be formed on the gate insulating layer 111a so as to overlap the channel region of the active layer 112a.
[0092] The interlayer insulating layer 111b may be formed on the gate electrode 112b and the drain and source regions of the active layer 112a. The interlayer insulating layer 111b may be formed in the circuit region and an entire light-emitting region where light is emitted to the pixel P. For example, the interlayer insulating layer 111b may be made of an inorganic material, but is not necessarily limited thereto.
[0093] The source electrode 112c may be electrically connected to the source region of the active layer 112a through a source contact hole provided in the interlayer insulating layer 111b, which overlaps with the source region of the active layer 112a.
[0094] The drain electrode 112d may be electrically connected to the drain region of the active layer 112a through a drain contact hole provided in the interlayer insulating layer 111b, which overlaps with the drain region of the active layer 112a.
[0095] The drain electrode 112d and the source electrode 112c may be made of the same metal material. For example, both the drain electrode 112d and the source electrode 112c may be made of a single metal layer, a single alloy layer, or a multilayer of two or more layers, the same as or different from the gate electrode.
[0096] In addition, the circuit region may further include first and second switching thin-film transistors arranged together with the thin-film transistor 112, and a capacitor. Since the first and second switching thin-film transistors are each provided on the circuit region of the pixel P so as to have the same structure as the thin-film transistor 112, their description will be omitted. The capacitor may be provided in an overlap region between the gate electrode 112b and the source electrode 112c of the thin-film transistor 112, which overlap each other with the interlayer insulating layer 111b therebetween.
[0097] To prevent a threshold voltage of the thin-film transistor provided in a pixel region from being shifted by light, the display panel or the first substrate 110 may further include a light-shielding layer (not shown) provided under the active layer 112a of the thin-film transistor 112, the first switching thin-film transistor, and / or the second switching thin-film transistor. The light-shielding layer may be disposed between the first substrate 110 and the active layer 112a to shield light incident on the active layer 112a through the first substrate 110, thereby minimizing a change in the threshold voltage of the transistor due to external light.
[0098] The protective layer 111c may be provided on the first substrate 110 to cover the pixel region. The protective layer 111c covers the drain electrode 112d and the source electrode 112c of the thin-film transistor 112, and the interlayer insulating layer 111b. The protective layer 111c may be formed entirely in the circuit region and the light-emitting region. For example, the protective layer 111c may be implemented as a passivation layer. The protective layer 111c may be omitted.
[0099] The gate insulating layer 111a, the interlayer insulating layer 111b, and the protective layer 111c may be included in an inorganic layer made of an inorganic material.
[0100] The planarization layer 113 may be formed on the first substrate 110 to cover the protective layer 111c. If the protective layer 111c is omitted, the planarization layer 113 may be provided on the first substrate 110 to cover the circuit region. The planarization layer 113 may be formed entirely in the circuit region and the light-emitting region. Furthermore, the planarization layer 113 may be formed on the remaining region, except for the pad region PA, in the non-display region NDA and the entire display region DA. For example, the planarization layer 113 may have an extension portion (or enlarged portion) extending or widening from the display region DA to the remaining non-display region NDA, except for the pad region PA. Therefore, the planarization layer 113 may have a relatively wider size than the display region DA.With reference to . Fig. As shown in Figure 6, the planarization layer 113 may even be disposed in the non-display region NDA. Since the planarization layer 113 disposed in the non-display region NDA is made of the same material as the planarization layer 113 provided in the display region DA, the visibility difference between the non-display region NDA and the display region DA can be reduced.
[0101] The planarization layer 113 according to an example may be formed to be relatively thick, thus providing a flat surface on the display area DA and the non-display area NDA. For example, the planarization layer 113 may be made of an organic material such as photoacrylic, benzocyclobutene, polyimide, and fluororesin.
[0102] Meanwhile, the GIP portion 200 arranged to surround the second transmissive portion TR2, that is, the GIP portion 200 positioned in the GIP region GDA of the non-display region NDA, may be provided in a structure similar to that of each of the active layer 112a of the thin film transistor 112 of the above-described pixel P, the gate electrode 112b arranged on the gate insulating layer 111a covering the active layer 112a, and the drain electrode 112d and the source electrode 112c arranged on the interlayer insulating layer 111b covering the gate electrode 112b.
[0103] Therefore, the GIP portion 200 positioned in the GIP region GDA may include an active layer 200a, a gate electrode 200b disposed on the gate insulating layer 111a covering the active layer 200a, and a drain electrode 200d and a source electrode 200c disposed on the interlayer insulating layer 111b covering the gate electrode 200b.
[0104] As it is in Fig. 7, a protective layer 111c may be disposed on the source electrode 200c and the drain electrode 200d of the GIP portion 200, and a planarization layer 113 may be disposed on the protective layer 111c.
[0105] In the subpixel SP of Fig. 4, the first electrode 114 is connected to the drain electrode 112d of the thin film transistor 112 through a contact hole formed in the planarization layer 113 and the protective layer 111c, but in the non-display region NDA of Fig. 7, the drain electrode 200d of the GIP portion 200 is not connected to the first electrode (or pattern electrode) provided on the planarization layer 113 of the non-display region NDA. This is because the organic light-emitting layer 116 in the non-display region NDA does not emit light.
[0106] With further reference to Fig. 4, the first electrode 114 may be formed on the planarization layer 113. The first electrode 114 is connected to the drain electrode or the source electrode of the thin-film transistor 112 through a contact hole extending through the planarization layer 113 and the protective layer 111c.
[0107] The first electrode 114 may be made of at least one of a transparent metal material, a semi-transparent metal material, or a high reflectivity metal material.
[0108] When the transparent display device 100 is provided in a top-emission mode, the first electrode 114 may be formed of a high-reflectivity metal material or a stacked structure of a high-reflectivity metal material and a transparent metal material. For example, the first electrode 114 may be formed of a high-reflectivity metal material such as a stacked structure (Ti / Al / Ti) of aluminum and titanium, a stacked structure (ITO / Al / ITO) of aluminum and ITO, an Ag alloy, and a stacked structure (ITO / Ag alloy / ITO) of an Ag alloy and ITO. The Ag alloy may be an alloy such as silver (Ag), palladium (Pd), and copper (Cu).
[0109] When the transparent display device 100 is provided in a downward emission mode, the first electrode 114 may be formed of a transparent conductive material (TCO) such as ITO and IZO that can transmit light, or a semi-transparent conductive material such as magnesium (Mg), silver (Ag), or an alloy of magnesium (Mg) and silver (Ag).
[0110] Meanwhile, the material forming the first electrode 114 may comprise MoTi. The first electrode 114 may be an anode electrode.
[0111] The bank 115 is a non-light-emitting region in which no light is emitted, and may be provided to surround each of the light-emitting regions (or light-emitting sections) of the plurality of sub-pixels SP. That is, the bank 115 may divide (or define) the respective light-emitting regions (or light-emitting sections).
[0112] The bank 115 may be formed on the planarization layer 113 to cover an edge of the first electrode 114, thereby dividing (or defining) the light-emitting regions (or light-emitting sections) of the plurality of sub-pixels SP.
[0113] Bank 115 may be formed to cover the edge of the first electrode 114 of each of the sub-pixels SP and expose a portion of each of the first electrodes 114. Therefore, a current is concentrated at one end of each of the first electrodes 114 to avoid a problem in which the light emission efficiency is degraded. An exposed portion of the first electrode 114 not covered by bank 115 may be a light emission region (or light emission portion).
[0114] The bank 115 may be formed of an organic layer such as, but not limited to, an acrylic resin, an epoxy resin, a phenolic resin, a polyamide resin, and a polyimide resin.
[0115] The organic light-emitting layer 116 is formed on the first electrode 114 and the bank 115. When a voltage is applied to the first electrode 114 and the second electrode 117, holes and electrons, respectively, move to the organic light-emitting layer 116 and combine with each other in the organic light-emitting layer 116 to emit light.
[0116] The organic light-emitting layer 116 may be formed from a plurality of sub-pixels SP and a common layer provided on the bank 115. In this case, the organic light-emitting layer 116 may be provided in a tandem structure in which a plurality of light-emitting layers, for example, a yellow-green light-emitting layer and a blue light-emitting layer, are stacked and can emit white light when an electric field is formed between the first electrode 114 and the second electrode 117.
[0117] A color filter (not shown) suitable for a color of a corresponding sub-pixel SP may be formed on the second substrate 120. For example, a red color filter may be provided in a red sub-pixel, a green color filter in a green sub-pixel, and a blue color filter in a blue sub-pixel. A white sub-pixel may not have a color filter because the organic light-emitting layer 116 emits white light.
[0118] However, the present disclosure is not limited to the above example, and the organic light-emitting layer 116 may include a red light-emitting layer for emitting red light from the first sub-pixel, a green light-emitting layer for emitting green light from the second sub-pixel, a blue light-emitting layer for emitting blue light from the third sub-pixel, and a white light-emitting layer for emitting white light from the fourth sub-pixel without being provided as a common layer. In this case, since the organic light-emitting layer 116 is provided to emit light of different colors for each of the sub-pixels SP, a color filter does not need to be formed on the second substrate 120.
[0119] The second electrode 117 is formed on the organic light-emitting layer 116. The second electrode 117 may be a common layer formed jointly in the sub-pixels SP. The second electrode 117 may be made of a transparent metal material, a semi-transparent metal material, or a high-reflectivity metal material.
[0120] When the transparent display device 100 is provided in an upward emission mode, the second electrode 117 may be formed of a transparent conductive material (TCO) such as ITO and IZO that can transmit light, or a semi-transparent conductive material such as magnesium (Mg), silver (Ag), or an alloy of magnesium (Mg) and silver (Ag).
[0121] When the transparent display device 100 is provided in a downward emission mode, the second electrode 117 may be formed of a metal material with high reflectivity, such as a stacked structure (Ti / Al / Ti) of aluminum and titanium, a stacked structure (ITO / Al / ITO) of aluminum and ITO, an Ag alloy, and a stacked structure (ITO / Ag alloy / ITO) of Ag alloy and ITO. The Ag alloy may be an alloy of silver (Ag), palladium (Pd), copper (Cu), etc. The second electrode 117 may be a cathode electrode.
[0122] The cap layer 118 may be formed on the second electrode 117, but may be omitted. When the cap layer 118 is formed, the cap layer 118 may be formed entirely in the display region DA. In this case, the cap layer 118 may be partially disposed in the non-display region NDA to reduce the visibility difference between the non-display region and the display region DA.
[0123] The encapsulation layer 119 is formed on the cover layer 118. The encapsulation layer 119 serves to prevent oxygen or water from penetrating the organic light-emitting layer 116 and the second electrode 117. For this purpose, the encapsulation layer 119 may comprise at least one inorganic layer.
[0124] In the display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the encapsulation layer 119 may be arranged in the non-display region NDA as well as the display region DA, as shown in Fig. 6. The encapsulation layer 119 may, according to an example, be arranged in the display region DA between a transparent filling element TF and the cap layer 118, and may be arranged in the non-display region NDA between the cap layer 118 arranged on the buffer layer BL and a transparent connecting element TD, between the first substrate 110 and the transparent connecting element TD, and between the discontinuous cap layer 118 and the transparent connecting element TD. The discontinuous cap layer 118 may be arranged on the organic light-emitting layer 116 separated from the second transmissive portion TR2. Therefore, as shown in Fig. 6, the discontinuous organic light-emitting layer 116 and the discontinuous cap layer 118 may be disposed in the second transmissive portion TR2. Therefore, the encapsulation layer 119 may overlap the first transmissive portion TR1 in the display region DA and may overlap the second transmissive portion TR2 in the non-display region NDA.
[0125] Since the encapsulation layer 119 is disposed in the display area DA and extends to the non-display area NDA, the encapsulation layer 119 can contact at least a part of one side of a dam DAM (or lower dam DAM2) in an outer portion of the display panel DP. Therefore, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure can effectively prevent water from penetrating from the outside of the display panel DP toward the display area DA.
[0126] However, the encapsulation layer 119 is not limited to the above example. The encapsulation layer 119 may extend to a portion of the non-display area NDA and may be provided only in the display area DA without being provided in the non-display area NDA. As an example, a case where the encapsulation layer 119 is disposed in the display area DA and extends to the entire non-display area NDA will be described below.
[0127] As it is in Fig. As shown in Figure 6, the encapsulation layer 119 may be in contact with the transparent filling element TF in the display region DA and may be in contact with the transparent connecting element TD in the non-display region NDA. Therefore, according to one example, the encapsulation layer 119 may be made of a material having a high adhesive force to at least one of the transparent filling element TF or the transparent connecting element TD to increase the overall coupling force between the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120.
[0128] As a result, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may have a structural characteristic including a second transmissive portion TR2 overlapping with the transparent connecting member TD in the GIP region GDA of the non-display region NDA and a first transmissive portion TR1 overlapping with the transparent filling member TF in the display region DA.
[0129] With further reference to Fig. 5, the second transmissive portion TR2 may have at least one concave portion CP and at least one convex portion PP.
[0130] The concave portion CP and the convex portion PP are intended to reduce or prevent the haze of a background or image that has passed through the second transmissive portion TR2 when the background or image positioned on the front or rear surface of the display panel DP is transmitted through the second transmissive portion TR2 and is visible to a user located toward an opposite side of the display panel DP.
[0131] For example, if the transmissive portion is provided in a rectangular shape, severe haze may occur because the transmissive portion is surrounded by an encapsulation layer, a planarization layer, or a first electrode provided in four adjacent linear shapes, whereby a background or image may be blurred. However, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided to have at least one concave portion CP and at least one convex portion PP, so that haze can be reduced to allow a background or image to be clearly seen.
[0132] The concave portion CP may be provided by using a mask used for a process of forming the second transmissive portion TR2, for example, a mask used for patterning the planarization layer 113 in Fig. 7 has a concave shape, whereby the planarization layer 113 can be structured in a concave shape.
[0133] The convex portion PP may be provided by the mask used for a process of forming the second transmissive portion TR2, for example, a mask used for patterning the planarization layer 113 in Fig. 7, has a convex shape, whereby the planarization layer 113 can be structured in a convex shape. The convex portion PP can be arranged adjacent to the concave portion CP.
[0134] As it is in Fig. 5, since the plurality of concave portions CP and the plurality of convex portions PP may be formed along the second direction Y, the second permeable portion TR2 may have different widths in the first direction X, but is not limited thereto. The concave portion CP and the convex portion PP may be provided to surround the entire second permeable portion TR2. In this case, the second permeable portion TR2 may be provided to have different widths in the first direction X and the second direction Y. Furthermore, the plurality of concave portions CP and the plurality of convex portions PP of the second permeable portion TR2 may be formed along the first direction X. In this case, the second permeable portion TR2 may have different widths from each other in the second direction Y.
[0135] The concave portion CP may be formed in a semicircular shape having a curved surface as shown in Fig. 5, but is not limited thereto. The concave portion CP may be formed in various shapes such as "⊂" (e.g., an open rectangular shape), "<" (e.g., an open triangular shape), "⊂" (e.g., an open oval or "C" shape), or rotated shapes "⊂", "<", and "⊂" if haze can be reduced. The convex portion PP may be formed in a shape opposite to that of the concave portion CP, but is not limited thereto. The convex portion PP may be formed in various shapes.
[0136] As it is in Fig. As shown in FIG. 5, the second transmissive portion TR2 may be formed in a rectangular shape with a plurality of concave portions CP and a plurality of convex portions PP, but is not limited thereto. The second transmissive portion TR2 may be formed in other shapes such as a hexagonal shape, a circular shape, or the like if haze can be reduced or avoided. Since the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided in a shape close to a circular shape, the directions in which light is scattered are reduced, whereby haze can be more significantly reduced or avoided. The transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure has been described by providing, as an example, the second transmissive portion TR2 in a rectangular shape having a plurality of concave portions CP and a plurality of convex portions PP, and the effect will be described later with reference to FIG. Fig. 9a and Fig. 9b described in more detail.
[0137] With reference to Fig. 6, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may further include a transparent connecting member TD and a transparent filling member TF.
[0138] The transparent connecting member TD may be disposed between the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120. Therefore, the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120 may be connected to each other by means of the transparent connecting member TD. For example, the transparent connecting member TD may include a thermosetting transparent adhesive or a light-curable transparent adhesive. The transparent connecting member TD may include an absorbent material (not shown) for absorbing external water or external moisture that penetrates the display area DA.
[0139] The transparent connecting element TD may surround the display area DA and may be in direct contact with the encapsulation layer 119 arranged in the non-display area NDA. Also, the transparent connecting element TD, as shown in Fig. 6, may be arranged in the non-display area NDA so as to overlap the second transmissive portion TR2.
[0140] The second transmissive portion TR2 can be formed by removing the inorganic layer provided between the first substrate 110 and the encapsulation layer 119, according to one example. Since the second transmissive portion TR2 and the transparent connecting element TD can be arranged to overlap each other, the light transmittance in the non-display area NDA can be improved.
[0141] Meanwhile, the display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may further include a dam DAM for preventing the transparent connecting member TD provided in the non-display area NDA from leaking toward the outside of the display panel DP.
[0142] The dam DAM serves to cover the transparent connecting element TD so that the transparent connecting element TD does not flow to the outside of the display panel DP (or the second substrate 120) in the non-display area NDA. Since the dam DAM is formed to protrude in a direction in which the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120 are bonded to each other, the dam DAM can prevent the transparent connecting element TD from leaking to the outside of the display panel DP by partially or completely blocking the edge of the transparent connecting element TD. The dam DAM may be made of an inorganic material to prevent water intrusion, but is not limited thereto.
[0143] According to one example, the dam may include an upper dam DAM1 and a lower dam DAM2, which are at least partially arranged between one end of the display panel DP and the GIP region GDA. The upper dam DAM1 may be formed to protrude from a surface of the second substrate 120 facing the first substrate 110 toward the first substrate 110. The lower dam DAM2 may be formed to protrude from a surface of the first substrate 110 facing the second substrate 120 toward the second substrate 120. Therefore, the upper dam DAM1 and the lower dam DAM2 may prevent the transparent connecting element TD from flowing from the non-display region NDA (or GIP region GDA) toward the end of the display panel DP.
[0144] As it is in Fig. 6, the lower dam DAM2 may include a planarization layer 113 and a dam bank DB. According to one example, the planarization layer 113 of the lower dam DAM2 may be thicker than the planarization layer 113 disposed in the GIP region GDA, since the GIP portion 200 of the GIP region GDA is not provided below the planarization layer 113, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. The lower dam DAM2 may have an outer pattern (not shown) made of a material similar to that of the metal material of the GIP portion 200 below the planarization layer 113. In this case, the lower dam DAM2 may be provided in a triple-stacked structure including the outer pattern, the planarization layer 113 disposed on an upper surface of the outer pattern, and the dam bank DB disposed on an upper surface of the planarization layer 113.The reason why the outer pattern is formed on the lower dam DAM2 is to reduce the visibility difference between the non-display region NDA and the display region DA, since the overall structure of the lower dam DAM2 is provided to be similar to the structure of the sub-pixel SP provided in the display region DA. The lower dam DAM2 according to another example may further include a first electrode (or pattern electrode) between the dam bank DB and the planarization layer 113. The pattern electrode may be provided between the dam bank DB of the non-display region NDA and the planarization layer 113 to reduce the visibility difference with the display region DA.In this case, the lower dam DAM2 may have a four-layer stacked structure including the outer pattern, the planarization layer 113 disposed on the upper surface of the outer pattern, the pattern electrode disposed on the upper surface of the planarization layer 113, and the dam bank DB disposed on an upper surface of the pattern electrode.
[0145] As described above, when the lower dam DAM2 is provided in a triple-stacked structure, a thickness of the planarization layer 113 of the lower dam DAM2 may be the same as or similar to that of the planarization layer 113 disposed in the GIP region GDA, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. When the lower dam DAM2 is provided in a four-layer stacked structure, the thickness of the planarization layer 113 of the lower dam DAM2 may be thinner than that of the planarization layer 113 disposed in the GIP region GDA. Fig. 6, the lower dam DAM2 is described as an example, which is provided in a double stacked structure with a planarization layer 113 and a dam bank DB.
[0146] The dam bank DB of the lower dam DAM2 can be arranged on the upper surface of the planarization layer 113 of the lower dam DAM2, so that the total thickness (or height) of the lower dam DAM2 can be thicker (or higher). Since the lower dam DAM2 is provided higher than a height of the encapsulation layer 119 arranged in the GIP region GDA, the transparent connecting element TD can be prevented from leaking from the GIP region GDA to the outside of the display screen DP. As shown in Fig. 6, the lower dam DAM2 may be in contact with a portion of the edge of the transparent interconnect element TD disposed on the encapsulation layer 119 at the end of the GIP region GDA.
[0147] Although the upper dam DAM1 is shown provided as a single layer, the upper dam DAM1, like the lower dam DAM2, may be provided as multiple layers with a planarization layer and a dam bank to more effectively prevent the transparent connecting element TD from leaking. When the upper dam DAM1 is provided as multiple layers, the dam bank may be arranged to face the dam bank DB of the lower dam DAM2. As another example, the planarization layer of the upper dam DAM1 may be positioned between the dam bank of the upper dam DAM1 and the dam bank DB of the lower dam DAM2.
[0148] However, if the upper dam DAM1 is provided as a single layer, as in Fig. As shown in Figure 6, the upper dam DAM1 may be made of the same organic material as the planarization layer 113, but is not limited thereto. The upper dam DAM1 may be made of an inorganic material. When the upper dam DAM1 is made of an organic material, since an adhesive force with the transparent connecting element TD can be improved, the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120 can be further prevented from being separated from each other by an external force.
[0149] The display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may further include a transparent filling element TF.
[0150] The transparent filling member TF may be disposed adjacent to the transparent connecting member TD in the display region DA. The transparent filling member TF may be disposed to fill a gap GAP between the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120 disposed in the display region DA, thereby supporting the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120. Therefore, the transparent filling member TF can prevent the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120 disposed in the display region DA from being easily deformed by an external force. In addition, the transparent filling member TF may be provided to be interposed between the organic light-emitting layer 116 formed in the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120, thereby preventing external water or external moisture from entering the display region DA.that penetrates through the second substrate 120 reaches the organic light-emitting layer 116. That is, the transparent filling element TF may have a barrier function to block the penetration of water. The transparent filling element TF may further contain an absorbent material for absorbing water or moisture to enhance the effect of preventing the penetration of moisture. For example, the absorbent material may be a trapping material.
[0151] Meanwhile, the transparent filler TF may contain a thermosetting transparent adhesive or a light-curable transparent adhesive. In this case, the transparent filler TF may be used together with the transparent connecting element TD to bond the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120 together. Therefore, a bonding force between the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 120 can be further improved.
[0152] The transparent filling element TF may be surrounded by the transparent connecting element TD and may be in direct contact with the encapsulation layer 119 disposed in the display area DA. The transparent filling element TF may be disposed in the display area DA so as to overlap the first transmissive portion TR1.
[0153] When the inorganic layer is removed from the second transmissive portion TR2, the inorganic layer provided between the first substrate 110 of the display area DA and the encapsulation layer 119 can be removed, thereby forming the first transmissive portion TR1 according to an example. Since the first transmissive portion TR1, from which such an inorganic layer is removed, and the transparent filler TF are arranged to overlap each other, the light transmittance in the display area DA can be improved.
[0154] Furthermore, as described above, when the transparent filler TF contains an absorbing material, a haze phenomenon may occur due to the absorbing material. However, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the inorganic layer disposed under the first transmissive portion TR1 of the display area DA is removed, the light transmittance can be improved, thereby preventing or reducing the haze phenomenon.
[0155] Since the non-display region NDA is provided in the same structure as the display region DA, the visibility difference between the non-display region NDA and the display region DA can be gradually reduced. Therefore, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the organic light-emitting layer 116 provided in the display region DA can be provided even in the non-display region NDA, so that the visibility difference between the display region DA and the non-display region NDA can be further reduced.
[0156] More specifically, the organic light-emitting layer 116, as shown in Fig. 6, may be arranged so as to extend to the non-display region NDA in which the second transmissive portion TR2 is arranged. However, if the organic light-emitting layer 116 is provided in a single connected form without interruption between the display region DA and the non-display region NDA, external water or external moisture may penetrate into the display region DA through the organic light-emitting layer 116 arranged adjacent to the outside (or arranged in the non-display region NDA), whereby the organic light-emitting layer 116 arranged in the display region DA may be damaged.
[0157] Therefore, as stated in Fig. 6 and Fig. 7, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the organic light-emitting layer 116 is provided so as to be separated from the second transmissive portion TR2, external water or external moisture is prevented from penetrating into the display area DA through the organic light-emitting layer 116, whereby the reliability of moisture permeability can be improved.
[0158] Since the planarization layer 113 in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may be interrupted by the plurality of second transmissive portions TR2, as shown in Fig. 6 and Fig. 7, moisture permeability through the planarization layer 113 can be avoided and thus an effect of preventing the permeation of moisture can be maximized.
[0159] Fig. 7 shows that the organic light-emitting layer 116 is separated from the non-display area NDA and Fig. Figure 7 is a schematic enlarged view of a section B of Fig. 6.
[0160] As it is in Fig. As shown in Figure 7, the organic light-emitting layer 116 disposed in the non-display area NDA may be separated from the edge of the second transmissive portion TR2. To separate the organic light-emitting layer 116 from the edge of the second transmissive portion TR2, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may further include an undercut portion UC.
[0161] The undercut portion UC may be disposed between the first substrate 110 and the planarization layer 113 disposed on the plurality of gate drive circuits. The undercut portion UC according to an example may be formed by removing at least a portion of the plurality of inorganic layers disposed in the second transmissive portion TR2 (or between the first substrate 110 and the planarization layer 113). For example, the undercut portion UC may be formed by removing the buffer layer BL, the gate insulating layer 111a, the interlayer insulating layer 111b, and the protective layer 111c disposed between the first substrate 110 and the planarization layer 113 from the second transmissive portion TR2 (or GIP region GDA).After the first electrode 114 and the bank 115 are formed on the planarization layer 113, the bank 115 and the planarization layer 113 located in the second transmitting portion TR2 are primarily removed by an exposure process and a dry etching process using photoresist and a mask. Then, the inorganic layers located in the second transmitting portion TR2, i.e., the buffer layer BL, the gate insulating layer 111a, the interlayer insulating layer 111b, and the protective layer 111c, may be secondarily removed by a high-concentration etchant. For example, the high-concentration etchant may be a material that can etch an inorganic layer such as SiO2, and may be, for example, a solution in which neutral ammonium fluoride (NH4F) and a buffered oxide etching solution (BOE) are mixed in a ratio of 6:1.The highly concentrated etchant may be in contact with the inorganic layers disposed in the second transmissive portion TR2 for approximately 20 seconds to 50 seconds, preferably 40 seconds, thereby removing at least some of the inorganic layers disposed in the second transmissive portion TR2. Through the above-described process, the undercut portion UC having a predetermined width W and a height H may be formed under the planarization layer 113 of the non-display region NDA (or GIP region GDA). In a subsequent process, the organic light-emitting layer 116 formed entirely on the display region DA and the non-display region NDA may be separated from the undercut portion UC having a predetermined width W and a height H. The undercut portion UC may be disposed along the edge of the second transmissive portion TR2.The organic light-emitting layer 116 may have segments (e.g., three in . Fig. 7 shown segments) separated from each other by the undercut section UC. The inorganic layers may comprise segments (e.g. two in Fig. 7) separated from each other by the undercut section UC.
[0162] The width W of the undercut section UC can be 0.1 µm to 5 µm. In this case, as shown in Fig. 7, the width W of the undercut portion UC denotes the shortest distance between the end of the planarization layer 113 and the end of the protection layer 111c exposed by the high concentration etchant, and which are closest to each other with the second transmitting portion TR2 therebetween.
[0163] If the width W of the undercut portion UC is less than 0.1 μm, the organic light-emitting layer 116 may not be interrupted, and if the width W of the undercut portion UC exceeds 5 μm, the encapsulation layer 119 may be interrupted without covering the undercut portion UC. If the encapsulation layer 119 is interrupted, the organic light-emitting layer 116 and / or the planarization layer 113 may be exposed through the interrupted gap, and water may permeate through the exposed organic light-emitting layer 116 and the planarization layer 113, which may impair reliability.
[0164] The height H of the undercut portion UC may be 0.3 µm to 1.3 µm. In this case, the height H of the undercut portion UC may denote the shortest distance between the end of the planarization layer 113 and the upper surface of the first substrate 110, which are exposed by the high-concentration etchant and are closest to each other with the second transmissive portion TR2 therebetween. Fig. 7, since the buffer layer BL is removed by the high-concentration etchant, the upper surface of the first substrate 110 can be a reference point of the height H of the undercut portion UC. However, if the gate insulating layer 111a, the interlayer insulating layer 111b, and the protective layer 111c are removed only by the high-concentration etchant, the reference point of the height H of the undercut portion UC can be an upper surface of the buffer layer BL.
[0165] When the height H of the undercut portion UC is less than 0.3 μm, the organic light-emitting layer 116 may not be interrupted. When the height H of the undercut portion UC exceeds 1.3 μm, the inorganic layer covering the GIP portion 200 or the lower line, for example, the GIP line near the second transmissive portion TR2, may be removed by the high-concentration etchant within a larger area. Therefore, the GIP portion 200 or the lower line may be exposed without being covered by the inorganic layer and thus be damaged by the high-concentration etchant.
[0166] Therefore, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the width W of the undercut portion UC is 0.1 μm to 5 μm and the height H of the undercut portion UC is 0.3 μm to 1.3 μm, the organic light-emitting layer 116 is interrupted but the encapsulation layer 119 is not interrupted, and the GIP portion 200 or the lower lead near the second transmitting portion TR2 can be prevented from being exposed to the high-concentration etchant. Therefore, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, moisture penetration through the organic light-emitting layer 116 disposed in the non-display area NDA can be avoided, and thus reliability can be improved. The GIP portion 200 or the lower line, that is, the GIP line of the GIP region GDA near the second permeable portion TR2, can be prevented from being damaged by the high-concentration etchant, and thus the durability can be improved.
[0167] The height H of the undercut portion UC is limited to, but not necessarily limited to, 0.3 µm or more. The height H of the undercut portion UC may be less than 0.3 µm and thicker (or higher) than the thickness of the organic light-emitting layer 116 if the organic light-emitting layer 116 may be discontinuous.
[0168] As it is in Fig. As shown in Figure 7, the undercut portion UC may be disposed at the edge of the second transmissive portion TR2 under the planarization layer 113. When the organic light-emitting layer 116 is formed in a subsequent process, the organic light-emitting layer 116 may be separated from the undercut portion UC, and a portion of the organic light-emitting layer 116 may be disposed in the second transmissive portion TR2 positioned between the undercut portions UC. A portion of the organic light-emitting layer 116 may be disposed on the upper surface of the first substrate 110, but is not limited thereto, and may vary depending on a layer in which the second transmissive portion TR2 is formed.Furthermore, the cap layer 118 formed after the organic light-emitting layer 116 may be separated from the undercut portion UC like the organic light-emitting layer 116, and a portion of the cap layer 118 may be disposed in the second transmissive portion TR2 positioned between the undercut portions UC. As a result, since the undercut portion UC is disposed along the edge of the second transmissive portion TR2, the organic light-emitting layer 116 and the cap layer 118 may be interrupted along the edge of the second transmissive portion TR2. That is, as shown in FIG. Fig. 7, the discontinuous organic light-emitting layer 116 and the discontinuous cap layer 118 may overlap the second transmissive portion TR2 in the GIP region GDA.
[0169] Although not shown, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the second electrode 117 formed between the organic light-emitting layer 116 and the cap layer 118 may also be formed in the non-display region NDA. In this case, since the non-display region NDA is similar to the structure of the display region DA, the visibility difference between the non-display region NDA and the display region DA can be further reduced. The second electrode 117 arranged in the non-display region NDA may be formed like the organic light-emitting layer 116 of Fig. 7 may be separated from the undercut portion UC, but may not be separated from the undercut portion UC unlike the organic light-emitting layer 116.
[0170] When the second electrode 117 arranged in the non-display region NDA is not separated from the undercut portion UC, since the second electrode 117 arranged in the non-display region NDA is arranged to surround the planarization layer 113 together with the encapsulation layer 119, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure can further maximize an effect of preventing moisture from permeating through the planarization layer 113.
[0171] With reference to Fig. 6 and Fig. 7, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, in order to reduce the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA, the first electrode may be provided in the non-display area NDA. However, since the first electrode provided in the non-display area NDA is provided to reduce the visibility difference, the first electrode may be formed to be patterned in the shape of an island without electrical function, as shown in Fig. 5 and Fig. 6. Therefore, the first electrode provided in the non-display area NDA may be a pattern electrode that has no electrical function.
[0172] The first electrode (or pattern electrode) provided in the non-display area NDA (or the GIP area GDA) may vary in shape depending on the shape of the second transmissive portion TR2. For example, as shown in Fig. 5, the first electrode (or pattern electrode) disposed between the second transmissive portions TR2 in the first direction X may be formed in a cup shape with a convex protrusion, and the first electrode (or pattern electrode) disposed between the second transmissive portions TR2 in the second direction Y may be formed in a rectangular shape. This is because the second transmissive portion TR2 has a concave portion CP that is concavely recessed and a convex portion PP that protrudes convexly in the first direction X, and has no concave portion CP and no convex portion PP in the second direction Y.Therefore, when the second transmissive portion TR2 has a concave portion CP and a convex portion PP in the second direction Y, the first electrode (or pattern electrode) disposed between the second transmissive portions TR2 in the second direction Y may also be provided in a pot shape. Hereinafter, a reference numeral of the first electrode (or pattern electrode) provided in the non-display area NDA (or the GIP area GDA) is defined as 114' to distinguish it from the reference numeral 114 of the first electrode provided in the display area DA.
[0173] The first electrode 114' may be disposed on the planarization layer 113 covering the GIP portion 200 of the GIP region GDA, according to one example. As described above, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the first electrode 114' may be formed before the organic light-emitting layer 116 in the process order, since the organic light-emitting layer 116 is provided even in the non-display region NDA.More specifically, since the planarization layer 113, the first electrode 114', and the organic light-emitting layer 116 disposed in the non-display region NDA are formed together with the planarization layer 113, the first electrode 114, and the organic light-emitting layer 116 disposed in the display region DA, when the planarization layer 113, the first electrode 114, and the organic light-emitting layer 116 are formed in the display region DA, the first electrode 114' of the non-display region NDA, like the first electrode 114 of the display region DA, can be positioned between the planarization layer 113 and the organic light-emitting layer 116.
[0174] Therefore, as stated in Fig. 6, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since a cross-sectional structure of the sub-pixel SP in the display area DA and a cross-sectional structure disposed between the second transmissive portions TR2 in the non-display area NDA are similar to each other, the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA is reduced, whereby a user can holistically view a background or an image toward the rear surface of the display panel DP.
[0175] In summary, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided in the non-display area NDA to be similar to the first transmissive portion TR1 provided in the display area DA, the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA can be reduced, and the overall transmittance can be improved. In the non-display area NDA, an area (or blind area) except for the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided in a structure similar to that of the sub-pixel SP of the display area DA, whereby the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA can be further reduced.
[0176] Fig. Figure 8 is an enlarged view of another example of a section B of Fig. 6.
[0177] Although in Fig. 7, the second transmissive portion TR2 of the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is described as being surrounded by two or more of the plurality of GIP portions 200, in another example, the second transmissive portion TR2 may be surrounded by two or more of the plurality of GIP lines 210 of the GIP area GDA.
[0178] More specifically, the GIP area GDA may further comprise a plurality of GIP lines 210 in the vicinity of the plurality of GIP sections 200, for example lines for supplying signals or power sources, as well as the plurality of GIP sections 200, and the second transmissive section TR2 may be surrounded by two or more GIP lines 210, as shown in Fig. 8. For example, the gate driver GD arranged in the non-display area NDA may further include a first gate driver in-panel (GIP) line 210 on one side of the second transmissive portion TR2 and a second GIP line 210 on the opposite side of the second transmissive portion TR2.
[0179] Since the Fig. 8 shown second permeable section TR2 is the same as that shown in Fig. 7, except that the second permeable portion TR2 is surrounded by a plurality of GIP lines 210, its detailed description is omitted and the following description is based on a difference from Fig. 7.
[0180] The respective GIP lines 210, which are in Fig. 8 may be arranged between the first substrate 110 and the buffer layer BL. This is because the plurality of GIP lines 210 are formed together when an LS line (not shown) provided between the first substrate 110 and the buffer layer BL of the display region DA is formed. Therefore, as shown in Fig. 8, the plurality of GIP lines 210 may be arranged between the buffer layer BL and the gate insulating layer 111a.
[0181] Each of the plurality of GIP lines 210 may be arranged at a position spaced from the undercut portion UC by a predetermined distance. The reason why the GIP line 210 is spaced from the undercut portion UC by a predetermined distance is that if the GIP line 210 is exposed from the undercut portion UC, the GIP line 210 may be damaged or destroyed due to water, etc., and thus the service life of the product may be shortened. Therefore, each of the plurality of GIP lines 210 may be covered by an inorganic layer and, at the same time, be spaced from the undercut portion UC by a predetermined distance.
[0182] The plurality of GIP lines 210 may be disposed between the first substrate 110 and the buffer layer BL, but are not limited thereto. Since the plurality of GIP lines 210, which are positioned differently from each other in their respective layers, may be positioned near the GIP portion 200, the second transmissive portion TR2 may be provided so as to be surrounded by the GIP line (not shown) positioned in a different layer, rather than the GIP line 210 disposed between the first substrate 110 and the buffer layer BL.For example, the plurality of GIP lines 210 positioned in another layer may be any of lines arranged between the buffer layer BL and the gate insulating layer 111a, lines arranged between the gate insulating layer 111a and the interlayer insulating layer 111b, and lines arranged between the interlayer insulating layer 111b and the protective layer 111c.When the plurality of GIP lines 210 are disposed between the gate insulating film 111a and the interlayer insulating film 111b, the plurality of GIP lines 210 can be formed together when the gate electrode 112b of the display region DA is formed, and when the plurality of GIP lines 210 are disposed between the interlayer insulating film 111b and the protective film 111c, the plurality of GIP lines 210 can be formed together when the source electrode 112c and the drain electrode 112d of the display region DA are formed.
[0183] As a result, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided so as to be surrounded by two or more GIP portions 200 or two or more GIP lines 210, the second transmissive portion TR2 may not overlap the GIP portion 200 or the GIP line 210 containing a metal material. Therefore, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure can improve the light transmittance in the non-display area NDA while reducing the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA. Although not shown, the second transmissive portion TR2 may be provided so as to be surrounded by the GIP portion 200 and the GIP line 210.
[0184] Fig. 9a and Fig. 9b are views showing a haze reduction effect of a transparent display device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0185] As described above, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided to have at least one concave portion CP and at least one convex portion PP, a haze phenomenon in which a background or image is seen as blurred or blurred can be reduced.
[0186] Fig. Fig. 9a is a view showing a background or an image transmitted through the transmissive portion of the display panel when the transmissive portion is provided in a rectangular shape. As shown in Fig. As shown in Fig. 9a, when light is scattered into the surroundings without being concentrated due to the haze phenomenon, the background or image that has passed through the transmissive part of the rectangular shape appears blurred or cross-shaped.
[0187] As in Fig. 9b, when the second transmissive portion TR2 has at least one concave portion CP and at least one convex portion PP, that is, in the case of the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the background or image that has passed through the second transmissive portion TR2 may appear clear or circular due to the reduction of the haze phenomenon when light is concentrated without being scattered.
[0188] As a result, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the second transmissive portion TR2 is disposed in the non-display area NDA, the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA can be reduced. Since the second transmissive portion TR2 is provided to have at least one concave portion CP and at least one convex portion PP, the haze phenomenon in the non-display area NDA can be reduced. Therefore, since a user can see a clear background or a clear image with a reduced visibility difference from the display area DA even through the non-display area NDA, the user can see a holistic background or an holistic image between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA.
[0189] However, in the present disclosure, the second permeable portion TR2 has been described as having at least one concave portion CP and at least one convex portion PP, but is not limited thereto. The second permeable portion TR2 may have at least one concave portion CP or at least one convex portion PP if the haze phenomenon can be reduced.
[0190] Fig. 10 is a schematic cross-sectional view taken along the line III-III' shown in Fig. 3 is shown, and Fig. 11 is a schematic enlarged view showing a section C of Fig. 10 represents.
[0191] With reference to Fig. 3, Fig. 10 and Fig. 11, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may further include a non-contact pad portion NP.
[0192] The non-contact portion NP may be provided in the non-display region NDA. The non-contact portion NP according to an example may be provided in the remaining non-display region NDA except for the contact region PA and the gate driver GD in the non-display region NDA. For example, the non-contact portion NP may be arranged in a fourth non-display region in which a plurality of power division lines PSL and a dummy pattern DPN are arranged. Hereinafter, the non-display region NDA having the non-contact portion NP is referred to as a non-contact region NPA (shown in Fig. 10). The non-contact area NPA may have several power distribution lines PSL and a dummy pattern DPN.
[0193] The plurality of power dividing lines PSL are used to supply a power source to the display area DA. The plurality of power dividing lines PSL according to an example may be arranged to be long in the first direction X in the non-pad area NPA to supply the power source to any area of the display area DA between the buffer layer BL and the planarization layer 113 (or circuit element layer 111) arranged in the non-display area NDA, but are not limited thereto. The plurality of power dividing lines PSL may be arranged between the first substrate 110 and the buffer layer BL or within the circuit element layer 111 in the non-display area NDA.
[0194] In the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the second transmissive portion TR2 may be arranged in the non-contact pad region NPA of the non-display region NDA and the GIP region GDA of the non-display region NDA, whereby the visibility difference between the display region DA and the non-display region NDA can be reduced.
[0195] The second transmissive portion TR2 arranged in the non-contact portion NP (or non-contact area NPA) may be provided in the same shape as the second transmissive portion TR2 arranged in the GIP area GDA.
[0196] The second transmissive portion TR2 arranged in the non-contact portion NP (or non-contact area NPA) may be surrounded by two or more power division lines PSL among the plurality of power division lines PSL. For example, as shown in Fig. 10 and Fig. As shown in FIG. 11, two or more of the plurality of power division lines PSL may be arranged to surround the second transmissive portion TR2 while being adjacent to the second transmissive portion TR2. In the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the second transmissive portion TR2 may be arranged so as not to overlap the plurality of power division lines PSL made of a metal material, whereby the light transmittance of the second transmissive portion TR2 arranged in the non-pad portion NP can be improved.
[0197] With reference to Fig.10, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may further include a dummy pattern DPN. The dummy pattern DPN may be formed in the non-display region NDA to reduce the visibility difference from a portion where the power division line PSL is disposed in the non-display region NDA. The dummy pattern DPN according to an example may be formed under the planarization layer 113 so as to be adjacent to the dam DAM. Since the dummy pattern DPN is formed below the planarization layer 113 in the non-display region NDA, a step difference between the planarization layer 113 disposed on the power division line PSL and the planarization layer 113 disposed on the dummy pattern DPN can be mitigated. The dummy pattern DPN may be formed together in the non-pad region NPA when forming the GIP portion 200 or the GIP line 210 provided in the GIP region GDA. The dummy pattern DPN may be formed to be patterned in an island shape to reduce a visibility difference or mitigate the step difference of the planarization layer 113, but is not limited thereto. Furthermore, the dummy pattern DPN may be made of a metal material that is the same as that of the GIP portion 200 or the GIP line 210, but is not limited thereto.
[0198] The dummy pattern DPN may be provided in the non-pad portion NP to reduce a visibility difference from a region where the thin film transistor 112 of the sub-pixel SP is arranged.
[0199] The dummy pattern DPN may be spaced apart from the plurality of power division lines PSL. Since the dummy pattern DPN is arranged to be spaced apart from the plurality of power division lines PSL, a predetermined space may be formed between the dummy pattern DPN and the plurality of power division lines PSL, and the second transmissive portion TR2 of the transparent display device 100 may be arranged in the space according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0200] In the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, since the second transmissive portion TR2 is disposed in at least one of the gate driver GD and the non-pad portion NP, the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA can be reduced. For example, the second transmissive portion TR2 is disposed in the remaining area other than that in which the pad area PA is disposed, in the non-display area NDA surrounding the display area DA, thereby reducing the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area DA.
[0201] Although not shown, the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include a plurality of dummy patterns DPN. In this case, the second transmissive portion TR2 may be disposed between the dummy patterns DPN. As a result, in the transparent display device 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the second transmissive portion TR2 may be provided between the plurality of power division lines PSL, between the power division line PSL and the dummy pattern DPN, and / or between the dummy patterns DPN in the non-pad portion NP (or non-pad area NPA).
[0202] To reduce the visibility difference between the display area DA and the non-display area NDA, at least one of the first electrode 114', the organic light-emitting layer 116, and the second electrode 117, such as the gate driver GD, may be disposed in the non-contact portion NP. When the organic light-emitting layer 116 is disposed in the non-contact portion NP, an undercut portion UC may be formed along the edge of the second transmissive portion TR2 to prevent moisture from penetrating the organic light-emitting layer 116, which may cause the organic light-emitting layer 116 to be interrupted.
[0203] Although in the present disclosure, three second transmissive portions TR2 are described as being formed in a direction from the non-display region NDA to the display region DA in each of the gate driver GD and the non-pad portion NP, at least the one second transmissive portion TR2 may be provided in the direction from the non-display region NDA to the display region DA.
[0204] Although in the present disclosure, the three second transmissive portions TR2 are arranged in a line in the direction from the non-display area NDA to the display area DA, three or more second transmissive portions TR2, that is, a plurality of second transmissive portions TR2, may not be arranged in a line in the direction from the non-display area NDA to the display area DA. For example, the plurality of second transmissive portions TR2 may be arranged alternately in the direction from the non-display area NDA to the display area DA.
[0205] According to the present disclosure, the following advantageous effects can be achieved.
[0206] In the present disclosure, since the transmissive region (or the second transmissive portion) is arranged in the non-display region, the visibility difference between the non-display region and the display region can be reduced.
[0207] Since the organic light-emitting layer is provided so as to be arranged in the non-display region, the visibility difference between the non-display region and the display region can be further reduced.
[0208] Furthermore, in the present disclosure, since the organic light-emitting layer disposed in the non-display region is provided to be discontinuous, penetration of external water through the organic light-emitting layer can be avoided.
