Abstract
Description
Technical field
[0001] The invention relates to an air filter comprising a housing with an upper housing part and a lower housing part, as well as a flat filter element with a filter medium body and with a circumferential seal that surrounds the filter medium body on the outside. The filter medium body has first and second sides that face away from one another and extend transversely to a main flow direction. A sealing body is arranged on the filter medium body within the area enclosed by the seal. The invention further relates to such a flat filter element for an air filter. State of the art
[0002] Such an air filter is known from EP 3 103 543 A1.
[0003] Air filters with flat filter elements are used in motor vehicles, for example, as intake air filters for combustion engines or as cabin air filters. Typically, the flat filter elements are sealed to a housing via a circumferential seal, which also supports the flat filter element on the housing. Particularly with large flat filter elements, undesirable deformation or vibration of the flat filter element and / or the housing can occur during operation.
[0004] EP 3 103 543 A1, already mentioned at the beginning, describes a filter element having a circumferential sealing element designed to separate a clean side from a dirty side. The filter element forms a replaceable filter insert part and has at least one recess extending between the clean side and the dirty side, wherein a plug-shaped damping element is received in the at least one recess. On the inside of each of two housing parts, a housing dome is formed integrally with the respective housing part. A first housing dome is located on the inside of the dirty air side housing part and projects into the recess formed in the filter element. One end face of the dirty air side housing dome rests against the damping element within the recess. The second housing dome is located on the inside of the clean air side housing section. In the installed position, the two conical housing domes are aligned coaxially with each other, with their respective end faces facing each other. The damping element is clamped between the end faces of the housing domes.
[0005] WO 2018 / 158387 A1 discloses a filter element for filtering intake air in a vehicle, wherein the filter element has a frame and wherein the filter element has at least two filter media arranged side by side in the frame. The filter material of the first filter medium differs from the filter material of the second filter medium. The frame borders the first and second filter media and separates these two filter media from each other by a central web. The central web of the frame can have a U-shaped recess for receiving a housing projection of a housing pot. A housing cover can have a hold-down element with which it presses against a sealing element of the filter element in the region of the central web.
[0006] A filter known from EP 1 144 083 B1 has a filter insert arranged in a housing through which intake air can flow. For stiffening, a cover of the housing has a support at its center point, consisting of a hollow socket secured in the housing body and a threaded socket secured in the cover. These sockets are connected to each other by a connecting screw after the cover has been placed on the housing body. The support passes through a recess provided in the filter insert, which is sealed against the support by an additional seal.
[0007] EP 3 297 745 B1 describes a filter element with a filter medium body. A support element is connected to the filter medium body to support the filter element in a receiving filter housing. The support element is located on the clean side of the filter medium body, and the support element is separated from the dirty side by the material of the filter medium body. The support element on the filter medium body has a convexly outwardly curved outer side for receiving in a concavely inwardly curved end face of a counter-support element on the filter housing.
[0008] A filter element known from DE 10 2017 011 435 A1 has a deformable support membrane that separates a clean side from a dirty side and supports a sensor component. In conjunction with a second sensor component on the housing side, this results in a pressure sensor that detects deformation of the elastic support membrane.
[0009] It is an object of the invention to force a correct installation of a centrally supported flat filter element. Disclosure of the invention
[0010] This object is achieved by an air filter according to claim 1 and a flat filter element according to claim 18. Preferred embodiments are specified in the respective subclaims and the description.
[0011] According to the invention, an air filter is provided. The air filter can, in particular, be an intake air filter for an internal combustion engine or a cabin air filter for a motor vehicle.
[0012] The air filter has a housing with an upper housing section and a lower housing section. The terms "lower housing section" and "upper housing section" are used here regardless of the installation position and primarily serve to distinguish between the two housing parts. Typically, the upper housing section is positioned above the lower housing section. However, it is also conceivable to position the lower housing section above or next to the upper housing section. Inclined housing arrangements are also conceivable.
[0013] The air filter also features a flat filter element with a filter media body and a circumferential seal. The seal surrounds the filter media body on the outside. When installed, the seal can seal the filter media body against the housing. The seal can also seal the upper housing section against the lower housing section.
[0014] The filter medium body has a first side and a second side which face away from one another and which extend transversely to a main flow direction. The filter medium body can be flowed through from one side to the other. Typically, the filter medium body can be flowed through from the first to the second side; the first side can then also be referred to as an inflow side and the second side as an outflow side. However, it is also conceivable for the filter medium body to be flowed through from the second to the first side; the second side can then also be referred to as an inflow side and the first side as an outflow side. The sides can be flat, stepped or corrugated. Flat sides can run parallel to one another or be inclined towards one another.
[0015] The filter medium body may comprise pleated filter medium. In particular, the filter medium body may be formed with a single or multiple bellows.
[0016] A sealing body is arranged on the filter medium body within the area enclosed by the seal. Typically, the sealing body is spaced apart from the surrounding seal. The sealing body is inherently airtight. Typically, the sealing body is tightly connected to the filter medium body.
[0017] The sealing body can comprise, and in particular consist of, soft or hard plastic. Preferably, the sealing body is made of the same material as the surrounding seal. In particular, the sealing body and / or the seal can be made of polyurethane, in particular polyurethane foam.
[0018] According to the invention, the sealing body forms a dome with a circumferentially enclosed cavity that is open towards the first side and extends beyond the second side. In other words, a dome-shaped section of the sealing body encloses the cavity in the circumferential direction and towards the second side, wherein the cavity has an opening towards the first side. Along the main flow direction, the dome and the cavity protrude beyond the second side. In particular, the sections of the dome that protrude beyond the second side are closed. For the description of the sealing body, directional terms such as radial, axial or in the circumferential direction refer to an axis through the sealing body that is parallel to the main flow direction.
[0019] Further according to the invention, the lower housing part has a support finger which, when assembled, engages the dome of the sealing body from the first side and extends beyond the second side, resting against the sealing body. The upper housing part has a support element which, when assembled, rests against the sealing body. The flat filter element is thus supported on the housing from both sides. Furthermore, the two housing parts stabilize each other by resting against the sealing body.
[0020] Because the cavity defined by the dome protrudes beyond the second side and the support finger also protrudes beyond the second side, this forces the first side of the filter medium body to always face the lower housing section and the second side to always face the upper housing section. This ensures correct installation. The support finger protruding beyond the second side also forces the use of flat filter elements that have a suitable sealing body. This can prevent the installation of unsuitable flat filter elements. The far protruding support finger can also pre-center the flat filter element on the lower housing section during assembly. This can simplify the alignment of the circumferential seal with a sealing seat on the lower housing section.
[0021] Preferably, the support finger and the support element are hollow and open to the outside of the housing. Tampering with the support finger or support element, such as subsequent shortening to allow the installation of conventional flat filter elements of uniform thickness, would therefore open the housing to the outside and render it unusable.
[0022] Preferably, the sealing body is permanently, in other words, firmly, connected to the filter medium body. This prevents the sealing body from accidentally coming loose when replacing the flat filter element. The sealing body can, for example, be molded onto the filter medium body, in particular cast or foamed, or glued to it.
[0023] Alternatively, the sealing body can be detachably mounted on the filter medium body. This can simplify manufacturing. The sealing body can, for example, be inserted into an opening in the filter medium body.
[0024] Preferably, the filter medium body has a circumferentially closed aperture extending from the first side to the second side, with the sealing body closing the aperture. The aperture is arranged within the area enclosed by the seal. In particular, the aperture is circumferentially surrounded by the filter medium of a single bellows. Such an aperture enables the sealing body to be positioned centrally on the flat filter element, thus providing particularly effective stabilization of the same and the housing.
[0025] The filter medium body can have a bellows in which the opening is formed. In particular, the opening can be surrounded in the circumferential direction by the filter medium of a single bellows. The opening can be sealed by at least one glue bead. The at least one glue bead can, for example, tightly seal the pleat end edges of the bellows in an area surrounding the opening. In particular, the opening can be sealed by two glue beads that run transversely to the fold edges. Such a seal can be produced efficiently. The glue beads sealing the opening can extend continuously over the entire length of the bellows. This further simplifies production, since the application of the glue to the unfolded filter medium does not have to be interrupted.Alternatively, the glue beads sealing the opening can extend from the opening in opposite directions and only partially extend toward opposite edges of the bellows. This has the advantage that less material is required for the glue beads.
[0026] Glue beads can also be applied to the outside of the filter media body to seal its pleats. Glue beads for external sealing are also generally continuous.
[0027] The at least one glue bead may comprise an adhesive or glue. In particular, the at least one glue bead may comprise a hot-melt adhesive. The term "glue bead" is therefore understood herein to include both adhesive and hot-melt adhesive beads, as well as actual glue beads.
[0028] The seal can be arranged on the second side of the filter medium body. This enables the sealing body and the seal to be produced in one operation and connected to the filter medium body. In particular, a common casting mold can be used for the seal and the sealing body.
[0029] The dome of the sealing body can have at least one bulge extending radially outwards. The bulge expands the cavity radially outwards. In the region of the bulge, an outer surface of the dome can protrude outwards.
[0030] The support finger may have a rib protruding radially outwards which engages in the bulge in the mounted state. In particular, exactly one bulge and exactly one rib may be provided. By the engagement of the rib in the bulge, a defined direction of rotation of the flat filter element can be ensured, even if the sealing body is arranged centrally on the flat filter element.
[0031] The dome of the sealing body may have several, in particular exactly three, bulges radially outwards. This can simplify the production and installation of the sealing body.
[0032] The support finger can have several, in particular exactly three, radially outwardly projecting ribs, each of which engages one of the bulges when mounted. The multiple bulges and ribs can be arranged rotationally symmetrically or asymmetrically. An odd number of bulges and ribs results in a defined rotational orientation of a rectangular flat filter element, even in a rotationally symmetrical arrangement.
[0033] The sealing body can have at least one axial depression. The depression forms a recess in the sealing body. Open sides of the depression and the dome or cavity generally face away from each other. In other words, the recess formed by the depression is open to the second side.
[0034] The support element can have at least one extension that engages the recess when mounted. The engagement of the extension in the recess ensures a defined rotational alignment of the flat filter element, even when the sealing body is arranged centrally on the flat filter element.
[0035] The sealing body can have several, in particular exactly three, axial recesses. This can simplify the production and assembly of the sealing body.
[0036] The support element can have several, in particular exactly three, extensions, each of which engages in one of the recesses when mounted. The multiple recesses and extensions can be arranged rotationally symmetrically or asymmetrically. An odd number of recesses and extensions ensures a defined alignment of a rectangular flat filter element, even with a rotationally symmetrical arrangement.
[0037] The projections and ribs, as well as the protrusions and depressions, can alternate in the circumferential direction. This allows for a compact sealing body to be achieved. The protrusions and depressions, as well as the projections and ribs, can stabilize each other.
[0038] The sealing body may have a flange at the open end of the dome. The flange may extend parallel to the first side.
[0039] The support finger may have a shoulder that rests against the flange when mounted. This allows the filter medium body to be supported perpendicular to the plane of its main extension.
[0040] Preferably, the flange delimits the at least one depression toward the first side. In the assembled state, the flange can be clamped between the at least one extension of the support element and the shoulder of the support finger. The filter medium body is thus positively supported in both directions transverse to the plane of its main extension. Furthermore, the support finger and the support element are supported against each other via the flange, so that the housing walls from which they extend are stabilized relative to each other.
[0041] The at least one extension of the support element and the support finger can overlap each other in the assembled state along the main flow direction. This provides mutual support for the two housing parts parallel to the plane of the main extension of the flat filter element. Furthermore, vibrations of the filter medium body in the plane of its main extension can be particularly effectively suppressed.
[0042] The dome can have a vertex against which the support finger of the lower housing section and the support element of the upper housing section rest, in particular with an end face. The sealing body is thus clamped between the support finger and the support element in the region of the vertex. The filter medium body is thus positively supported in both directions transverse to the plane of its main extension. Furthermore, the support finger and the support element rest against each other in the region of the vertex, so that the housing walls from which they originate are stabilized against each other. The vertex is the area of the dome that protrudes the furthest beyond the second side.
[0043] Preferably, the sealing body is arranged eccentrically on the filter medium body. This allows a defined rotational position of the flat filter element relative to an axis parallel to the main flow direction to be enforced, regardless of the outer contour of the flat filter element.
[0044] A plurality of sealing bodies can be arranged on the filter medium body within the area enclosed by the seal, wherein the sealing bodies each form a dome with a circumferentially enclosed cavity which is open towards the first side and extends beyond the second side.
[0045] The lower housing part can have several support fingers, which, when assembled, engage from the first side into the dome of one of the sealing bodies and extend beyond the second side, supporting the respective sealing body. The upper housing part can have several support elements, each of which, when assembled, supports one of the sealing bodies. This allows a particularly strong stabilizing effect to be achieved.
[0046] The plurality of sealing bodies, support fingers and / or support elements can each have the further features described above. Preferably, the plurality of sealing bodies, support fingers and / or support elements are each formed in the same manner.
[0047] The present invention also includes a flat filter element, in particular for an air filter according to the invention described above. The flat filter element has a filter medium body and a circumferential seal that surrounds the filter medium body on the outside. The filter medium body has a first side and a second side that face away from one another and extend transversely to a main flow direction. A sealing body is arranged on the filter medium body within the area enclosed by the seal. The sealing body forms a dome with a circumferentially enclosed cavity that is open towards the first side and extends beyond the second side. The flat filter element can have further features described above. Short description of the drawings
[0048] Further features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of exemplary embodiments of the invention, from the patent claims, and from the figures of the drawing, which illustrate details of the invention. The features mentioned above and those further described can be implemented individually or in combination in any suitable variants of the invention. The features shown in the drawing are presented in such a way that the special features of the invention can be clearly seen.

Embodiments of the invention
[0050] The Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 shows an air filter 10. The air filter 10 has a housing 12 with a lower housing part 14 and an upper housing part 16. The lower housing part 14 and the upper housing part 16 can be releasably attached to one another. A raw air inlet 15 for air to be filtered is formed on the lower housing part 14. A clean air outlet 17 for filtered air is formed on the upper housing part 16.
[0051] The air filter 10 further comprises a flat filter element 20, which is arranged replaceably in the housing 12. A filter medium body 22 of the flat filter element 20 is designed as a bellows made of zigzag-folded filter medium, for example, filter paper. The filter medium body 22 can be flowed through from a first side 24 to a second side 26 along a main flow direction 28. In other words, the first side 24 forms a raw-side inflow side; the second side 26 forms a clean-side outflow side. In the illustrated embodiment, the first and second sides 24, 26 each run in one plane and parallel to one another.
[0052] A circumferential seal 30 is attached to the outside of the filter medium body 22. The seal 30 can be made of polyurethane and, for example, be foamed onto the filter medium body 22. In the present case, the seal 30 is arranged adjacent to the second side 26. In the assembled state, see Fig. 1, the circumferential seal 30 seals the flat filter element 20 against the housing 12, so that a dirty side, here associated with the lower housing part 14, is separated from a clean side, here associated with the upper housing part 16. Furthermore, the seal 30 seals the lower housing part 14 and the upper housing part 16 from each other. For this purpose, the seal 30 is compressed between the two housing parts 14, 16.
[0053] Formed inside the filter medium body 22 is an opening 32 extending from the first side 24 to the second side 26. The opening 32 is circularly cylindrical in shape. The opening 32 is circumferentially surrounded by the filter medium body 22. Folds of the filter medium body 22 are sealed toward the opening 32 by glue beads 33 extending transversely to its folded edges 31, see Fig. 2 and Fig. 3. The glue beads 33 run here over the entire length of the filter medium body 22.
[0054] A sealing body 34 closes the opening 32, compare also Fig. 4. The sealing body 34 can be made of polyurethane and, for example, be foamed onto the filter medium body 22. This allows a permanent connection between the sealing body 34 and the filter medium body 22 to be achieved. The sealing body 34 is here entirely in one piece.
[0055] The sealing body 34 sits with a collar 36 on the second side 26 of the filter medium body 22, compare Fig. 2 and Fig. 4. A shaft section 38 of the sealing body 34 extends into the opening 32, compare in particular Fig. 4.
[0056] The sealing body 34 has a dome 40 which projects beyond the second side 26 of the filter medium body 22, see in particular Fig. 4. The dome 40 encloses a cavity 42, which is open toward the first side 24. The dome 40 rises so far above the second side 26 that the cavity 42—when viewed along the main flow direction 28—is also partially arranged above the second side 26. An apex 44 of the dome 40 delimits the cavity 42 in the axial direction (parallel to the main flow direction 28).
[0057] The flat filter element 20 is supported on the housing 12 within the area enclosed by the seal 30 via the sealing body 34. The support is provided both with respect to the lower housing part 14 and with respect to the upper housing part 16. Thus, the two housing parts 14, 16 also support each other via the sealing body 34.
[0058] The housing base 14 has a support finger 46, which engages from the first side 24 into the cavity 42 of the sealing body 34. The support finger 46 extends through the opening parallel to the main flow direction 28, so that its axial end 48 is located beyond the second side 26 of the filter medium body 22. On the one hand, the axial end 48 of the support finger 46 bears against the inside of the apex 44 of the dome 40. On the other hand, a shoulder 50 of the support finger 46 bears against a flange 52 of the sealing body 34. The flange 52 is located within the opening 32.
[0059] In this embodiment, the dome 40 of the sealing body 34 is provided with three bulges 54, which expand the cavity 42 radially outwards in some areas, see also Fig. 5. In the area of the bulges 54, the dome 40 is curved on the outside, compare Fig. 4 and Fig. 6. In the present case, the bulges 54 are evenly distributed over the circumference of the dome. The support finger 46 has three radially outward-pointing ribs 56 between the shoulder 50 and its axial end 48 (see in particular Fig. 2), each of which engages in one of the recesses 54 (see in particular Fig. 1 and Fig. 4).
[0060] The upper housing part 16 is supported on the sealing body 34 via a support element 58. On the one hand, an end face 60 of the support element 58 rests on the outside against the apex 44 of the dome 40 (compare in particular Fig. 4). The sealing body 34 is thus clamped in the area of the apex 44 between the support finger 46 and the support element 58. On the other hand, the flange 52 of the sealing body 34 is clamped between three extensions 62 (see also Fig. 3) of the support element 58 and the shoulder 50 of the support finger 46 (again, see in particular Fig. 4).
[0061] To enable engagement of the extensions 62 up to the flange 52, the sealing body 34 has three depressions 64. In the area of the depressions 64, the sealing body 34 is recessed from its collar 36 below the second side 26. Towards the first side 24, the depressions 64 are limited by the flange 52. The depressions 64 are arranged in the circumferential direction between the bulges 54, see Fig. 6.
[0062] In the assembled state, the extensions 62 of the support element 58 and the ribs 56 of the support finger 46 overlap each other along the main flow direction 28, compare Fig. 4. In the circumferential direction, the ribs 56 are located in the area of the gaps between the extensions 62.
[0063] Fig. 7 shows another flat filter element 70 for an air filter. The flat filter element 10 of Fig. 7 corresponds in its basic structure to that described above and in the Fig. 1 to 6. In this respect, reference is made to the above description; the differences are primarily explained below.
[0064] In the flat filter element 70, two sealing bodies 34 are each arranged at an opening 32. Both sealing bodies 34 are arranged off-center both in the longitudinal direction (transverse to the folded edges of a bellows forming the filter medium body 22) and in the transverse direction (parallel to the folded edges). A housing 12 of an air filter 72 with the flat filter element 70 accordingly has two support fingers 46 on the housing lower part 14 and two support elements 58 on the housing upper part 16; compare the abstracted representation in Fig. 10.
[0065] In the flat filter element 70, the domes 40 of the sealing bodies 34 each have a single radial bulge 54. A single axial depression 64 extends over more than half, here more than two-thirds, of the circumference of the respective dome 40. In particular, the depression 64 runs on the side of the dome 40 of the respective sealing body 34 opposite the bulge 54, see also Fig. 8. The two support elements 58 of the upper housing part 16 each have a single extension 62 which encloses the dome 40 over more than 180° in the circumferential direction, compare Fig. 9. A rib of a support finger 46 is aligned in the assembled state with a recess 74 of the extension 62 (not shown in detail).
[0066] In summary, the invention relates to a flat filter element and an air filter. A filter medium body of the flat filter element is circumferentially enclosed by a seal. Within the area enclosed by the seal, the filter medium of the filter medium body has an interruption. In the area of the interruption, the filter medium body is closed by a sealing body. The sealing body prevents unfiltered air from passing from the raw side to the clean side. The sealing body has a dome-shaped arch. When assembled, a support finger of a first housing part engages into the sealing body from a first side and projects completely through the filter medium body parallel to the main flow direction, so that the support finger projects out of the filter medium body on a second side. The dome-shaped region of the sealing body spans the protruding support finger. The sealing body is accommodated between the support finger of the first housing part and a support element of a second housing part. The support finger and the support element provide support for the filter medium body on both sides by means of the sealing body.
