Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a display unit for a vehicle and, in particular, to a display unit for a vehicle having a flexible display with a stiffening device which has at least one stiffening plate.
[0002] DE 10 2018 200 408 B4 discloses a display device with a main element and a secondary element connected to each other by a flexible element. DE 10 2012 010 679 A1 discloses a display panel consisting of elastically deformable display elements.
[0003] Display units for vehicles that have a flexible display are already known from the prior art, for example from DE 10 2017 200 949 A1. It is also known from the aforementioned prior art to transfer the flexible display into various extended positions by means of an actuator while deforming the flexible display, for example, to transfer the display into a curved and retracted rest position or, alternatively, into an extended position in which the flexible display extends essentially along a flat plane. DE 10 2017 200 949 A1 does disclose a stiffening device in the form of several stiffening plates that are pivoted relative to one another when the flexible display is deformed. The disclosed display is designed to be flexible at least in partial areas, such as, for example, in pivot axis areas.
[0004] A disadvantage of the display units with flexible displays known from the state of the art is that the flexible displays are very flexible.
[0005] Consequently, flexible displays, for example in designs for user input, such as touchscreens, do not offer sufficient flexural rigidity to provide the user with appropriate feedback when touching the display. When equipping a flexible display without touchscreen functionality in the automotive sector, it is generally desirable to design the flexible display with sufficient flexural rigidity in the extended or resting position, for example, to prevent deformation under the loads encountered during driving.
[0006] Based on the aforementioned prior art, the present invention aims to improve a display unit for a vehicle with a bendable display such that the bendable display can be transferred into different extension positions and furthermore offers sufficient flexural rigidity in at least one extension position in order to prevent deflection of the display, in particular under user inputs.
[0007] According to a first aspect of the invention, the object is achieved by a display unit for a vehicle with a bendable display which extends between two opposite ends along a longitudinal axis and has a display side and a rear side facing away from the latter. The display unit further comprises an actuator for reversibly transferring the display from a stretched position, in which the bendable display extends like a non-curved / flat surface, into a bent position, in which the display extends in an arc around an imaginary display bending axis that is orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the display and parallel to the display side of the display. The display unit also comprises a stiffening device which comprises at least one stiffening plate which extends in a plate plane and runs in a longitudinal extent between the opposite ends of the display and is designed to be bendable in the plate plane.
[0008] The at least one stiffening plate is pivotable on the rear side of the display about a pivot axis parallel to its longitudinal axis between a pivoting position, in which the at least one plate plane is arranged parallel to the rear side of the display and is bendable together with the display, and a pivoting position, in which the at least one stiffening plate protrudes substantially orthogonally from the rear side of the display for stiffening the display in its extended position and extends in the manner of an uncurved flat surface.
[0009] The display unit according to the invention further comprises an actuating device for reversibly transferring the at least one stiffening plate from the pivoted-in position to the pivoted-out position when the display is in the extended position.
[0010] The display unit according to the invention makes it possible to stiffen the flexible display in the extended position or to increase the resulting flexural rigidity of the display unit in this position by means of the stiffening device, which has at least one stiffening plate. According to the invention, the stiffening of the flexible display or the increase in the flexural rigidity of the actual flexible display in the extended position takes place by pivoting or folding out the at least one stiffening plate by means of a provided actuation device, which transfers the at least one stiffening plate from a pivoted-in position to the pivoted-out position when the display is in the extended position. In the pivoted-in position, the at least one stiffening plate lies essentially flat against the back of the display or runs parallel to the back of the flexible display at a short distance. The at least one stiffening plate has a plate plane in which the stiffening plate is bendable and has only a low flexural rigidity. This results in the technical effect that, when the at least one stiffening plate is arranged in the pivoted-in position, the flexible display can be easily deformed by means of the actuator and thus brought into different bending positions. The resulting flexural rigidity of the flexible display is only slightly increased by arranging the at least one stiffening plate in the plate plane of the stiffening plate due to its low flexural rigidity.
[0011] Once the display has been moved into the extended position by means of the actuator, in which the display extends like a non-curved surface, the at least one stiffening plate is moved from the pivoted-in position into the pivoted-out position by means of the actuating device, wherein in the pivoted-out position the plate plane of the at least one stiffening plate protrudes essentially orthogonally from the rear of the display and itself extends like a non-curved, flat surface. Due to the now essentially orthogonal extension of the at least one stiffening plate relative to the extension plane of the display, the resulting flexural rigidity of the bendable display in the display plane is significantly increased. The at least one stiffening plate thus forms at least one rear stiffening rib for the bendable display in the pivoted-out position. According to the invention, the pivoting orTransferring the at least one stiffening plate via a rigid-body rotation of the at least one reinforcement plate relative to the flexible display. This has the advantage that the pivoting process can be performed without fatigue of the material of the at least one stiffening plate. Load transfer from the flexible display to the at least one stiffening plate occurs via the pivot bearings, which pivotally connect the rear of the display to the at least one stiffening plate.
[0012] Preferably, the stiffening device can comprise at least two stiffening plates, which are arranged at a distance from one another orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the flexible display. The provision of at least two stiffening plates spaced apart from one another orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the display has the advantage that the flexible display can be stiffened across the entire screen width and thus also orthogonally to the longitudinal axis, in order to completely prevent local bending or bending along an axis orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the flexible display or to reduce it to a desired level. In addition, occurring bending forces can be distributed across the at least two stiffening plates, whereby the actual stiffening plates can again be provided with smaller dimensions.
[0013] In a preferred embodiment, it can be provided that the at least one stiffening plate comprises a rectilinear first lateral edge on which the stiffening plate is pivotably mounted, and preferably comprises an outwardly curved, convex second lateral edge, which is opposite the first lateral edge. The design of the stiffening plate with a rectilinear first lateral edge, on which the stiffening plate is pivotably mounted, has the advantage that the first rectilinear lateral edge can be configured as close as possible to the rear of the pivotable display, thus achieving only a slight increase in the thickness of the display unit configured with the stiffening device.
[0014] The preferred embodiment, in which the second lateral edge is convex and protrudes outwards, has the advantage that the flexural rigidity along the longitudinal axis of the flexible display increases continuously from the two opposite ends along the longitudinal axis of the display to the center between the two opposite ends of the display and thus the highest flexural rigidity of the flexible display can be achieved in the center of the longitudinal axis.
[0015] According to the invention, it can be provided that at least two pivot bearings are provided per stiffening plate, on which the stiffening plate is pivotally mounted, wherein each pivot bearing comprises a bearing block fastened to the rear of the display and a pivot axis pin on which the stiffening plate is pivotally and axially displaceably mounted, wherein the pivot axis pins are arranged collinearly and together form the pivot axis of the stiffening plate.
[0016] The design of the stiffening plate and the arrangement or fastening of the respective stiffening plate via at least two pivot bearings each have the advantage that the stiffening plates can be pivoted with minimal structural effort and, at the same time, are connected to the back of the flexible display in a load-bearing manner, at least in the pivoted-out position. Load transfer can occur via the at least two pivot bearings and thus be distributed among the intended number of pivot bearings. Thus, according to the invention, a single load connection point is avoided, which also prevents excessive load in certain areas of the display.
[0017] The design of the respective pivot bearings with a bearing block attached to the back of the display and an opposing pivot axis pin has the additional advantage that the displacements of the pivot bearings between the back of the display and the respective stiffening plate that occur due to the deformation of the flexible display can be compensated for via the axial displacement. This prevents the occurrence of constraining forces in the area of the pivot bearings when the display bends, and further reduces the increase in the flexural rigidity of the flexible display due to the arrangement of at least one stiffening plate.
[0018] Preferably, it can be provided that the degree of axial displaceability of the at least one stiffening plate along the pivot bearing pins is gradually increased starting from one of the pivot bearings with minimal axial displaceability to adjacent successive pivot bearings.
[0019] Particularly preferably, it can be provided that the pivot bearing with the minimum degree of axial displaceability is located in the middle of the longitudinal extent of the display and the pivot bearings adjacent on both sides have gradually increased degrees of axial displaceability, or that the pivot bearing with the minimum degree of displaceability is located at one end of the display and the pivot bearings arranged successively towards the other end of the display each have gradually increased degrees of axial displaceability.
[0020] In a further preferred embodiment, it can be provided that the stiffening device additionally comprises a plurality of stiffening ribs, wherein the stiffening ribs are each attached to the rear side of the display orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the display and are arranged at a distance from one another as viewed in the direction of extension of the longitudinal axis of the display. The stiffening ribs are connected to the rear side of the flexible display in a load-bearing manner. The stiffening ribs provided have the effect that the flexible display is always stiffened in the direction orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the display, regardless of the bending position. However, along the longitudinal axis of the display, due to the extension of the stiffening ribs orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the display, there is no significant increase in flexural rigidity, such that the bending of the display along the longitudinal axis can take place unhindered by means of the provided actuator.
[0021] It can be provided that the stiffening ribs for the at least one or each stiffening plate comprise the bearing blocks and the pivot pins on which the respective stiffening plates are pivotably mounted. Integrating the bearing blocks and pivot pins with the stiffening ribs enables a compact design of the display unit.
[0022] Particularly preferably, it can be provided that the at least one or each stiffening plate locks automatically to the back of the display in its pivoted-out position.
[0023] It can further be provided according to the invention that the stiffening plate comprises or is formed from a spring-elastic material and automatically assumes the shape of an uncurved planar surface without the application of load.
[0024] According to the invention, it can further be provided that the display unit further comprises a support element to which the display is attached at one end in the manner of a cantilevered beam. The support element makes it possible to arrange the display unit according to the invention in a load-bearing manner at one end at the desired position on a vehicle body or a load-bearing part of a vehicle interior structure.
[0025] Preferably, the display unit can further comprise at least one support element, against which the display rests with its rear side in at least one of the bending positions or rests on the support element. Independently of the stiffening device, the support element allows the display unit to be rigidly designed in the bending position by resting against the support element.
[0026] It can be provided that the at least one support element has a curved contact edge against which the rear side of the display rests when transferred from the stretched position into at least one bending position.
[0027] It can be provided that the actuator acts on the second end of the display for transferring the display from the extended position to a bent position and exerts a tensile force on it and preferably cancels the tensile force or exerts a compressive force on the second end for transferring the display from a bent position to the extended position.
[0028] The second end of the display is located opposite the first end of the display and, in particular, is located opposite a fixed end of the display if the display is designed in the form of a unilaterally tensioned beam.
[0029] It can be provided that the actuator comprises an actuator and a drive unit for extending and retracting the actuator, which is coupled to the second end of the display or for pulling on a flexible strand element, such as a rope, a chain or the like, and for yielding tensile force to the strand-shaped element.
[0030] Furthermore, it can be provided that the actuation device is designed as a transmission element which is connected at a first end in an articulated manner to the at least one stiffening plate and at an opposite second end in an articulated manner, for example, to the support element or a fixed structure.
[0031] Preferably, it can be provided to design the transmission element as a bistable transmission element, which preferably changes between a folded-in state and an unfolded state, wherein the bistable transmission element rests in the stretched position of the display in the unfolded state and in a bending position of the display in the folded state.

[0034] Particularly preferably, it can be provided that when several stiffening plates are formed, these are mechanically coupled to one another via at least one connecting link and when the actuating device acts on one of the stiffening plates, all stiffening plates are pivoted together.
[0035] Furthermore, it can preferably be provided that the first actuator and / or the actuation device is designed as an electrically driven linear actuator.
[0036] It can be provided that the flexible display is designed as a type of display film, in particular as an OLED panel or LCD panel, and has a carrier substrate film which is connected to the display film in the manner of a composite material component.
[0037] It can be provided that the carrier substrate film comprises a spring-elastic material, wherein the carrier substrate film automatically assumes a shape in the manner of an uncurved planar surface.

[0040] According to the invention, the at least one stiffening plate and / or, if present, the stiffening ribs and / or, if present, the carrier element and / or, if present, the at least one support element can comprise a plastic material or be at least partially formed from a plastic material. [0041] They show: Fig. 1A is a perspective rear view of a first exemplary embodiment of a display unit according to the invention with a display in an extended position; Fig. 1B is a perspective rear view of a second exemplary embodiment of a display unit according to the invention with the display, also in the extended position; Fig. 1C is a perspective side view of a third exemplary embodiment of a display unit according to the invention in the extended position; Fig. 1D the exemplary embodiment of the display unit according to the invention according to Fig. 1C with display in bending position; Fig. 2A-2C a fourth embodiment of a display unit according to the invention in the extended position.
[0042] The Fig. 1A shows a perspective rear view of a first exemplary embodiment of a display unit for a vehicle according to the invention. The display unit for a vehicle is shown in Fig. 1A in the so-called extended position. The display unit for a vehicle has a flexible display 1, which extends between two opposite ends 11, 12 along a longitudinal axis 13 and has a display side 14 and a rear side 15 facing away from the display side 14. The display unit further has an actuator 2 for reversibly transferring the display 1 from the Fig. 1A, in which the display extends like an uncurved surface, into a bending position (see Fig. 1D), in which the display 1 extends in an arcuate manner around an imaginary display bending axis that is orthogonal to the longitudinal axis 13 of the display 1 and parallel to the display side 14 of the display 1. In addition, the display unit according to the invention has a stiffening device 3, which has at least one stiffening plate 30. In the illustrated embodiment according to Fig. For better clarity, two stiffening plates 30 are shown in Figure 1A. The two stiffening plates 30 extend in a plate plane in their longitudinal extent between the opposite ends 11, 12 of the display 1 and are designed to be bendable in the plate plane. The at least one stiffening plate 30 is pivotable on the rear side 15 of the display 1 about a pivot axis 33 parallel to its longitudinal axis 13 (see Fig. 1C) between a swivel position (as in Fig. 1A), in which the at least one plate plane is arranged parallel to the back 15 of the display 1 and is bendable together with the display, and a pivoting position (as shown in the Fig. 1B and Fig. 1C), in which the at least one stiffening plate 30 for stiffening the display in its extended position protrudes substantially orthogonally from the rear side 15 of the display 1 and extends in the manner of a non-curved, flat surface. In addition, the display unit has an actuation device 4 for transferring the at least one stiffening plate 30 from the pivoted-in position to the pivoted-out position when the display is in the extended position, and back again.
[0043] As can also be seen from the illustrated embodiments of the display unit according to the invention, these can have at least two stiffening plates 30, which in turn are arranged orthogonally to the longitudinal axis 13 of the display 1 at a distance from one another.
[0044] In the illustrated embodiments, the illustrated stiffening plates 30 are configured with a rectilinear first lateral edge 34, on which the stiffening plate 30 is pivotally mounted. As also illustrated, the stiffening plates 30 may preferably have an outwardly curved, convex second lateral edge 35, which is configured opposite the first lateral edge 34.
[0045] In the illustrated embodiments of the display unit according to the invention, a number of five pivot bearings 36 are provided per stiffening plate 30, although according to the invention, at least two of the aforementioned pivot bearings 36 can generally be provided. The stiffening plate 30 can be pivotally mounted on the provided pivot bearings 36, wherein each pivot bearing 36 has a bearing block fastened to the rear of the display and a pivot axis pin 37 on which the stiffening plate 30 is pivotally and axially displaceably mounted, wherein the pivot axis pins 37 are arranged collinearly and together form the pivot axis 33 (see Fig. 1C) of the respective stiffening plate 30. The stiffening device 3 of the display unit according to the invention shown in the figures further comprises five stiffening ribs 38, which are attached to the rear side 15 of the display 1 orthogonally to the longitudinal axis 13 thereof and are arranged at a distance from one another as viewed along the longitudinal axis 13 of the display.
[0046] As shown in the figures, it can be provided that the stiffening ribs 38 for the stiffening plates 30 have the bearing blocks 36 and the pivot axis pins 37 on which the respective stiffening plate is pivotally mounted relative to the display.
[0047] According to the invention, the display unit can further comprise a support element 19, to which the display 1 is attached at one end 12 in the manner of a cantilevered beam. The support element 19 can serve, for example, to attach the display unit according to the invention in the interior of a vehicle, such as in the area of the center console or the roof lining.
[0048] As in the Fig. 1A, the actuator 2 can be used to transfer the display 1 from the extended position, which is Fig. 1, act on the second end 11 of the display 1 and exert a tensile force thereon. The actuator 2 can also be designed such that it is used to transfer the display 1 from a bending position, such as that shown in the Fig. 1D, in the extended position on the second end 11 cancels the tensile force or in particular exerts a compressive force.
[0049] The actuator 2 can comprise an actuator and a drive unit for extending and retracting the actuator, which in turn is coupled to the second end 11 of the display. Alternatively, the actuator can be configured in the region of the second end 11 of the display 1, for example, with a flexible strand element, such as a rope, a chain, or the like, and for applying tensile force to the strand-shaped element.
[0050] Just like in the Fig. 1A and Fig. 1B, it can be provided that the stiffening plates 30 are mechanically coupled to one another via at least one connecting link 6 such that they are pivoted together upon pivoting of one of the plurality of stiffening plates 30. For example, by providing at least one connecting link 6, it is possible to arrange only one actuation device 4 on one of the plurality of stiffening plates 30 and to actively pivot only one stiffening plate 30, wherein the provision of the at least one connecting link 6 allows the further stiffening plates 30 to be pivoted together with the first driven stiffening plate 30.
[0051] The Fig. Fig. 1B shows a second exemplary embodiment of a display unit according to the invention, wherein the illustrated second embodiment differs from the first embodiment in that the actuation device 4 in the Fig. 1A, an actuator and a drive unit for actively extending and retracting the actuator and thus for actively pivoting the at least one stiffening plate. In the provided actuation device 4 in Fig. 1 is therefore an active actuation device 4 in the sense that it is actively driven.
[0052] However, the Fig. 1B an actuation device 4, which is designed as a transmission element, wherein the transmission element is connected at a first end in an articulated manner to the at least one stiffening plate 30 and at a second opposite end in an articulated manner to the support element 19.
[0053] In the intended embodiment of the actuation device according to Fig. 1B is therefore a passive actuation device. This means that the provided stiffening plates 30 are pivoted in and out by the actuator 2 upon deformation of the display 1 only through the articulated connection to a fixed point, such as the support element 19. Fig. 1A and Fig. 1B, the actuating device 4 for pivoting the at least one stiffening plate 30 can engage at its end facing away from the rear side 15 of the display 1 in the pivoted-out position.
[0054] The Fig. 1C and 1D show a third exemplary embodiment of a display unit according to the invention in a perspective side view. For a better illustration of the features, reference has been made to the illustration of the actuation device 4 and the actuator 2 in the Fig. 1C and Fig. 1D is omitted. In the Fig. 1C, the display 1 is shown in the extended position, wherein the stiffening plate 30 shown is shown in the pivoted-out position, in which the stiffening plate protrudes substantially orthogonally from the rear side 15 of the display 1 for stiffening the display 1 in its extended position and extends in the manner of a non-curved flat surface. In contrast, the Fig. 1D shows the display unit according to the invention with the display 1 in the bending position, in which the display 1 extends in an arc around an imaginary display bending axis orthogonal to the longitudinal axis 13 of the display 1 and parallel to the display side 14 of the display. The stiffening plate 30 shown is shown in the pivoted-in position, in which the plate plane 31 of the stiffening plate 30 extends parallel to the rear side 15 of the display 1 and is bent together with the display.
[0055] In particular, the Fig. 1C, but also the Fig. 10, it can be seen that the degree of axial displacement of the stiffening plate 30 along the pivot bearing pins 37, starting from a pivot bearing 36 with minimal axial displacement, increases gradually towards adjacent successive pivot bearings. Fig. 1C and Fig. 1D, the lowest pivot bearing in the image plane is designed with only minimal displaceability and the degree of displaceability increases along the longitudinal axis 13 of the display 1 towards the upper end, such that the degree of displaceability of the uppermost pivot bearing 36 is the greatest.
[0056] Unlike in the Fig. 1C and Fig. 1D, it can also be provided according to the invention that the pivot bearing 36 with a minimum degree of axial displaceability is located in the middle of the longitudinal extension 13 of the display 1 and the pivot bearings 36 adjacent on both sides have gradually increased degrees of axial displaceability.
[0057] As in the Fig. 2A-2C, the display unit according to the invention can further comprise at least one support element 5, against which the display 1 rests with its rear side 15 in at least one of the bending positions.
[0058] As in the Fig. 2A-2C, the at least one support element 5 can have a curved contact edge 51, against which the rear side 15 of the display 1 rests when transferred from the stretched position to a bent position. As shown in the Fig.2A-2C, two support elements 5 can be provided, which are each designed in edge regions of the display 1, such that the display 1 rests against the curved contact edges 51 of the two support elements 5 in the region of the edge of the rear side 15.
