Description

[0001] The invention relates to a scroll compressor for compressing a gaseous fluid, in particular for compressing a refrigerant in a refrigerant circuit, especially in an air conditioning system of a motor vehicle.

[0002] A scroll compressor for compressing a gaseous fluid generally comprises a compressor housing and two nested scrolls within the compressor housing. A first, stationary scroll is mounted so that it cannot rotate relative to the compressor housing, and a second, movable scroll engages the stationary scroll and is eccentrically movable on a circular path without rotation about its own spiral axis. This scroll is also called an orbiting scroll due to the nature of its movement. The nested scrolls together form several different compression chambers, the volumes of which can be cyclically varied by the eccentric movement of the orbiting scroll.

[0003] The invention serves to reduce the weight of the orbiting scroll, particularly in electric scroll compressors for the refrigerant R744 (CO2). Scroll compressors for compressing the refrigerant R744 (CO2) according to the prior art have orbiting scrolls with continuous wall thicknesses. The entire axially oriented wall surface is required for the compression process. However, a large section of the radially outwardly oriented wall surface of the orbiting scroll is not required for the compression process. This section represents unnecessary mass, which increases the load and scroll imbalance. This problem is exacerbated by the increase in compression volume as the wall volumes increase.

[0004] To reduce weight and balance the orbiting scroll, the reverse side, i.e., the side facing away from the stationary scroll, is machined according to the state of the art. This is typically achieved using differently shaped, milled, or drilled semi-open cavities. The spiral-shaped walls of the movable, orbiting scroll and the stationary, stationary scroll, which determine the compression mechanism, usually have a constant material thickness along the scroll path.

[0005] Nevertheless, solutions are also known in the prior art in which changes in the geometry of the compression mechanism are provided that extend beyond the rear side of the orbiting spiral, which can be associated with the aim of reducing the weight of the compression mechanism.

[0006] EP 4033101 A1 describes a scroll compressor with an orbiting scroll comprising a base plate and a scroll body arranged upright thereon. Grooves are formed in the base plate on its outer circumference to achieve balancing and weight savings. The disadvantage of this approach is, on the one hand, that it is often difficult to perform a milling operation on the outer circumference of the base plate from a manufacturing perspective, since the part to be machined is usually kept at the same diameter. On the other hand, the weight-saving effect is considered to be minimal due to thin walls.

[0007] CN 116221117 A describes a scroll compressor in which grooves are formed in the wall of the orbiting scroll in an axial direction relative to the orbiting axis for the purpose of balancing and weight reduction. However, the outer axial surface of the spiral wall of the movable scroll is altered by the grooves, which may negatively affect the load distribution and tribological properties of the compression mechanism.

[0008] US 5833443 A discloses a scroll compressor with a fixed scroll and an orbiting scroll as parts of a compression mechanism. A non-planar geometry is used for the outer axial surface of the spiral wall of the fixed scroll to reduce the force required to separate the two parts of the compression mechanism. In this case, too, the disadvantage is that the outer axial surface of the spiral wall of the fixed scroll is altered, which can negatively affect the load distribution and tribological properties of the compression mechanism.

[0009] The object of the invention is to achieve a weight reduction and balancing of the orbiting scroll that goes beyond what is customary in the prior art. It must be ensured that the outer axial surface of the spiral wall of the movable scroll remains unchanged in order to ensure even load distribution between the moving and stationary scrolls and to maintain the tribological properties of the compression mechanism. Furthermore, the weight reduction of the orbiting scroll should be accompanied by a more flexible shape of the orbiting scroll, allowing it to better conform to the stationary scroll to further improve load distribution. Furthermore, it must be ensured that the radially engaged surfaces remain fully functional.

[0010] The problem is solved by a scroll compressor having the features according to claim 1. Further developments are specified in the dependent claims.

[0011] The scroll compressor for compressing a gaseous fluid comprises a compressor housing and two nested scrolls within the compressor housing. A first, stationary scroll is mounted such that it is not rotatable relative to the compressor housing, and a second, movable scroll engages the stationary scroll and is eccentrically movable on a circular path without rotation about its own scroll axis. The stationary scroll has a stationary base plate and a stationary scroll body arranged upright in the axial direction—relative to the scroll axis—on a plate surface. The movable scroll comprises a movable base plate and a movable scroll body arranged axially upright on a plate surface of the movable base plate, wherein the fixed base plate faces an outer axial surface of the movable scroll body, and the movable base plate faces an outer axial surface of the fixed scroll. The nested scrolls together form a plurality of different compression chambers, the volumes of which can be cyclically varied by eccentric movement of the movable scroll. The movable scroll body has a radially outward-facing wall surface with a wall portion that is not intended for radial contact with an opposite wall surface of the fixed scroll during movement of the movable scroll.According to the invention, at least one material recess is formed in this wall section of the radially outwardly facing wall surface, such that the at least one material recess does not impair the wall thickness of the movable spiral body either on the axial surface or on the end of the movable spiral body directly adjacent to the plate surface of the movable base plate.

[0012] According to the concept of the invention, this object is achieved by forming one or more defined material recesses on a wall section of the radially outward-facing wall surface of the movable or orbiting scroll. Said material recesses are placed exclusively in an area where there is no radial contact between the moving and stationary scrolls during the orbiting process. Furthermore, said material recesses are implemented in such a way that the outer axial surface of the movable scroll body, facing the base plate of the stationary scroll, remains unaffected by the measure. In this way, the function of the compression mechanism remains unaffected by the aforementioned material recess(es) with regard to the engagement of the two spirals and with regard to the tribological properties, i.e., the interaction of the surfaces of the two spirals in relative movements. The advantageous design of the aforementioned material recesses leads to a significant weight reduction of the movable spiral.

[0013] Furthermore, an advantageous embodiment of the invention allows the center of gravity of the movable spiral to be specifically adjusted, thus reducing the overall imbalance compared to the overall imbalance of a movable spiral designed according to the prior art. In addition to reducing the overall weight and the vibration-generating mass, the weight reduction of the movable spiral also has a beneficial effect on the bearing load and thus extends the bearing service life. Furthermore, the weight adjustment of different movable spirals enables the use of identical parts, which increases flexibility in component selection.

[0014] The advantages of the scroll compressor according to the invention can be summarized as follows: ➢ The weight of the movable scroll orbiting during operation of the scroll compressor is reduced compared to the state of the art, while the compression capability and compression performance are fully maintained. ➢ The total unbalance of the orbiting scroll designed according to the invention is reduced compared to an orbiting scroll designed according to the prior art. ➢ The loads on the compressor bearing are reduced, which can increase the bearing service life. ➢ The specific weight reduction enables compatibility with existing compressor parts, which contributes to greater design freedom in the assembly of the component group. ➢ Due to the material recess, the spiral wall of the movable spiral is more flexible, which allows it to adapt better to the stiffer, fixed spiral, which leads to a homogenization of the load distribution, so that the load can be distributed over a larger area.

[0015] The presence of at least one material recess means that a single material recess or multiple material recesses can be formed in said wall section of the radially outwardly facing wall surface. According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the at least one material recess in the wall section of the outwardly facing wall surface is a groove that follows the spiral path of the movable spiral. The material recess generally has two end regions along the spiral path, each of which borders a region of the radially outwardly facing wall surface without a material recess.

[0016] The shape of the at least one material recess can be designed according to a desired geometry. Various cross-sections are possible for a groove following the spiral path. According to one embodiment, the at least one material recess has a concave cross-section, preferably a semicircular or semi-elliptical or partially elliptical curve. A material recess with a semicircular or partially elliptical cross-section is particularly advantageous for making the spiral wall of the spiral more flexible, on the one hand, and for designing the spiral wall of the movable spiral such that it is still able to bear the radial and axial load imposed by the stationary spiral, on the other. A movable spiral body with a material recess with a semicircular or partially elliptical cross-section can adapt particularly well to the stiffer, stationary spiral due to its flexibility. As already mentioned, this allows for a more homogeneous load distribution, meaning the load can be distributed over a larger area. The described effect can also be achieved in principle with other material cutouts with a semi-oval or partially oval cross-section, as well as with rectangular cross-sections with concavely rounded inner corners.

[0017] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the at least one material recess extends in cross-section to the end of the movable spiral body directly adjacent to the plate surface of the movable base plate. According to an alternative embodiment, the at least one material recess extends in cross-section in the direction of the end of the movable spiral body directly adjacent to the plate surface of the movable base plate to a wall region of the outwardly facing wall surface located between the material recess and the plate surface of the movable base plate, the wall thickness of which is not impaired by the material recess. In the opposite direction, i.e. in cross-section in the direction of the end of the movable spiral body adjacent to the axial surface, the at least one material recess generally extends to a wall region of the outwardly facing wall surface which is located between the material recess and the axial surface and whose wall thickness is also not impaired by the material recess.

[0018] According to a further embodiment, the at least one material recess on the outwardly facing wall surface is positioned vertically, i.e. in the axial direction, such that on the outwardly facing wall surface the distance between the axial surface adjacent to the outwardly facing wall surface and the at least one material recess and the distance between the at least one material recess and the plate surface of the movable base plate directly adjacent to the outwardly facing wall surface are the same.

[0019] According to one embodiment, the at least one material recess is concavely curved in cross section and has at least one doubly concavely curved end region, in which the at least one material recess is concavely curved both in cross section and along the direction of the spiral path up to an adjacent region of the radially outwardly facing wall surface without a material recess.

[0020] At least one material recess can be created by milling. In the case of a material recess with a semicircular cross-section, the shape can be achieved, for example, using a ball-end milling cutter or a form milling cutter.

[0021] Further details, features, and advantages of embodiments of the invention will become apparent from the following description of exemplary embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings. They show: Fig. 1: a perspective view of a movable spiral according to an embodiment of the invention, Fig. 2: a side view of the movable spiral, Fig. 3: a sectional view of the movable spiral, Fig. 4: a schematic representation of the interaction of a movable and a fixed scroll in a scroll compressor in the prior art, shown in the upper figure A, and a corresponding representation in an embodiment according to the invention, shown in the lower figure B, for comparison, Fig. 5A: a schematic sectional view of the nested spirals of a scroll compressor, according to which a material recess with a semicircular cross-section and placed vertically centrally is formed in the movable spiral body, Fig. 5B: a schematic sectional view of nested spirals of a scroll compressor, according to which a material recess with a semicircular cross-section is formed in the movable spiral body, which material recess directly abuts a plate surface of a movable base plate of the movable spiral, Fig. 6: a schematic sectional view of nested spirals, according to which a material recess with a semi-elliptical cross-section is formed in the movable spiral body, Fig. 7: a schematic sectional view of nested spirals, according to which a trough-shaped material recess is formed in the movable spiral body, and Fig. 8: a schematic sectional view of nested spirals, with a material recess in the movable spiral body that is rectangular in cross-section and has concave rounded inner corners.

[0022] The Fig. 1 perspectively shown movable scroll 1 comprises a movable base plate 3 and a movable spiral body 4 which is erected from a plate surface 5 of the base plate 3 of the movable scroll 1 in the axial direction relative to the spiral axis 2. The movable spiral body 4 has an outer axial surface 6 which is intended to be in contact with a stationary base plate of a scroll compressor in Fig. 1. Furthermore, the movable spiral body 4 has a wall section of a radially outwardly facing wall surface 7, in which a material recess 8 is formed in the form of a groove which follows the spiral path of the movable spiral body 4 in the relevant wall section, but does not impair the outer axial surface 6 of the movable spiral body 4. This material recess 8 has two end regions 9 and 10 along the spiral path, each of which borders on a region of the radially outwardly facing wall surface 7 without a material recess.

[0023] The Fig. Fig. 2 shows the movable scroll 1 in a side view. This view shows the spiral body 4 arranged upright on the plate surface 5 of the base plate 3 in an area of the outwardly facing wall surface 7, in which a wall section with the material recess 8 in the direction of the spiral path of the spiral body 4 borders on an area of the outwardly facing wall surface 7 without a material recess, wherein this area is located at an outer end 11 of the spiral path. The material recess 8 is placed exclusively in a wall section in which, during an orbiting process in the scroll compressor, there is no radial contact between the movable scroll 1 and a Fig. 2 is present. The material recess 8 has a double concave curved end region 10 near an outer end 11 of the spiral path. This means that the material recess in this end region 10 is concavely curved both in cross section and along the direction of the spiral path up to the adjacent region of the radially outwardly facing wall surface 7 in which no material recess 8 is formed. A corresponding double concave curvature can also be provided for the material recess at the Fig. 1, opposite end region 9 of the material recess 8 in the direction of the spiral path.

[0024] From a sectional view of the movable spiral 1 in Fig. 3 it is clear that the material recess 8 in the outward-facing wall surface 7 is a groove which follows the spiral path of the movable spiral body 4 and which, in cross-section, has a concave curvature in the shape of a semicircle. The material recess 8, which has a concave curvature in cross-section, is positioned in the outward-facing wall surface 7 in such a way that, on the one hand, it is spaced axially from the outer axial surface 6 of the movable spiral body 4 and therefore does not affect the wall thickness on the outer axial surface 6, and, on the other hand, the concave curvature of the material recess 8 extends to just above the plate surface 5 of the movable base plate 3. Thus, the wall thickness of the movable spiral body 4 is also not affected at the end 12 of the movable spiral body 4 which directly adjoins the plate surface 5 of the movable base plate 3.

[0025] In Fig. 4, the interaction of a movable scroll 1 and a fixed scroll 13 in a scroll compressor is shown schematically for comparison, once according to the prior art (see the upper figure A) and once according to an embodiment of the invention (see figure B). The fixed scroll 13 has a base plate 14 and a fixed spiral body 16 arranged upright in the axial direction - relative to the spiral axis - on a plate surface 15 of the base plate 14 of the fixed scroll 13. The movable scroll 1 comprises, as already described above in connection with the figures Fig. 1 to Fig. 3, a movable base plate 3 and a movable scroll body 4 arranged upright in the axial direction on a plate surface 5 of the movable base plate 3 of the movable scroll 1. The base plate 14 of the fixed scroll 13 faces the outer axial surface 6 of the movable scroll body 4, while the movable base plate 3 faces an outer axial surface 17 of the fixed scroll body 16. The fixed scroll 13 and the movable scroll 1, whose scroll bodies 4 and 16 have substantially the same shape, are arranged in a compressor housing in a state in which the plate surfaces 5, 15 of the base plates 3, 14 face each other and the movable scroll body 4 is engaged with the fixed scroll body 16.In this way, several compression chambers are formed in the scroll compressor between the fixed scroll and the movable scroll, the volumes of which can be cyclically varied by eccentric movement of the movable scroll 1. As shown in . Fig. 4, the movable spiral body 4 has a wall section of a radially outwardly facing wall surface 7 which is not intended for radial contact with an opposite wall surface of the fixed spiral 13 during a movement of the movable spiral 1, wherein in this wall section of the radially outwardly facing wall surface 7 a material recess 8 is formed which is semicircular in cross section and which does not impair the wall thickness of the movable spiral body 4 either at its axial surface 6 or at the end 12 of the movable spiral body 4 which is directly adjacent to the plate surface 5 of the movable base plate 3.The semicircular material recess 8 runs in cross section in the direction of the end 12 of the movable spiral body 4 which lies directly against the plate surface 5 of the movable base plate 3 as far as a wall region of the outward-facing wall surface 7 which is located between the material recess 8 and the plate surface 5 of the movable base plate 3 and whose wall thickness is not impaired by the material recess 8. In the opposite direction, that is to say in cross section in the direction of the end 12 of the movable spiral body 4 which lies directly against the axial surface 6, the at least one material recess 8 runs as far as a wall region of the outward-facing wall surface 7 which is located between the material recess 8 and the axial surface 6 and whose wall thickness is likewise not impaired by the material recess 8. The material recess 8 is according to the . Fig. 4 is positioned vertically on the outwardly facing wall surface 7 such that on the outwardly facing wall surface 7 the distance between the axial surface 6 lying against the outwardly facing wall surface 7 and the at least one material recess 8 and the distance between the at least one material recess 8 and the plate surface 5 of the movable base plate 3 directly lying against the outwardly facing wall surface 7 are the same.

[0026] As shown in Figure A of the Fig. As outlined in Figure 4, in scroll compressors according to the state of the art, loads occur at various points between the movable scroll and the stationary scroll. These loads are shown as points in the sectional view, but occur as line loads in the component. The semicircular material recess 8 in cross-section according to Figure B is advantageous with regard to greater flexibility of the movable scroll body 4, which, due to the concave semicircular material recess, adapts better to the stiffer stationary scroll 13. This allows the load distribution to be homogenized, i.e., the load is distributed over a larger area, as shown in the lower Figure B of the Fig. 4 is indicated by dashed lines.

[0027] The Fig. 5A shows in a further schematic sectional view the nested spirals 1, 13 of a scroll compressor, that is to say a fixed spiral 13 with a fixed base plate 14 and a fixed spiral body 16 and a movable spiral 1 with a movable base plate 3 and a movable spiral body 4. Also according to the Fig. In the embodiment shown in Figure 5A, a material recess 8 with a semicircular cross-section and positioned vertically centrally is formed in the movable spiral body. This means that the material recess 8 is positioned vertically on the outwardly facing wall surface 7 such that, on the outwardly facing wall surface 7, the distance between the axial surface 6 adjacent to the outwardly facing wall surface 7 and the at least one material recess 8 and the distance between the at least one material recess 8 and the plate surface 5 of the movable base plate 3 directly adjacent to the outwardly facing wall surface 7 are equal.

[0028] Also the Fig. 5B shows a schematic sectional view of nested spirals 1, 13, with a material recess 8 in the movable spiral body 4 that is semicircular in cross-section, wherein the material recess 8 bears directly against the movable base plate 3 of the movable spiral 1 with one side. On the other side, i.e. in cross-section in the direction of the end of the movable spiral body 4 that bears against the axial surface 6, the material recess 8 extends to a wall region of the outwardly facing wall surface 7, which is located between the material recess 8 and the axial surface 6 and whose wall thickness is not impaired by the material recess 8. Thus, there is a significant distance between the axial surface 6 that bears against the outwardly facing wall surface 7 and the at least one material recess 8.

[0029] Further possible forms of material recesses are shown in the figures Fig. 6, Fig. 7 and Fig. 8. The Fig. Figure 6 shows a schematic sectional view of nested spirals 1, 13, wherein a material recess 8 with a semi-elliptical cross-section is formed in the movable spiral body 4. The material recess 8 lies directly against the movable base plate 3 of the movable spiral 1 with one side. Fig. Figure 7 is a schematic sectional view of nested spirals 1, 13, wherein a tub-shaped material recess 8 is formed in the movable spiral body 4. The tub shape can be regarded as a special type of a rectangular cross-sectional material recess 8 with concavely rounded inner corners in the movable spiral body 4. A material recess 8 with concavely rounded inner corners, also rectangular in cross-section, is shown in the Fig. 8, whereby this material recess extends in the horizontal direction considerably deeper into the movable spiral body 4 of the movable spiral 1 nested with the fixed spiral 13 than in the case of the Fig. Tub shape shown in 7.
