AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing shaft devices in motor vehicle drivetrains are prone to damage from torsional vibrations, particularly during transient operations, leading to reduced durability and driving comfort.

Method used

A shaft device with an inner shaft coupled to a sheathing arrangement featuring regions with different damping properties, where the sheathing material is rotationally fixed at the ends and movable in the middle to absorb torsional vibrations, using plastic for the sheathing and metal for the inner shaft, connected via frictional and positive locking.

Benefits of technology

The solution effectively reduces torsional vibrations, enhancing durability and safety by providing improved damping and monitoring capabilities, thus improving driving comfort and extending the lifespan of drivetrain components.

Abstract

The invention relates to a shaft device (10) for a drive train (100) of a motor vehicle (K), comprising an inner shaft (20) which is formed from an inner shaft material and has respective coupling areas (12, 14) at opposing inner shaft ends (22, 24) of the inner shaft (20), via which the shaft device (10) can be coupled to respective drive components of the drive train (100) in a torque-transmitting manner, and a sheathing arrangement (50) which has at least a first sheathing (60) which is rotationally fixed to the inner shaft (20) between the inner shaft ends (22, 24) and is formed from a sheathing material different from the inner shaft material and having higher damping properties compared to the inner shaft material. The first sheathing (60) has two first sheathing regions (62, 64), which, in contrast to at least one first intermediate sheathing region (66) of the first sheathing (60) arranged between the two first sheathing regions (62, 64), are each rotationally fixed to the inner shaft (20). Further aspects of the invention relate to a drive train (100) and to a motor vehicle (K).
