Abstract

A method for cutting a workpiece (12) using a laser beam (14). The laser beam (14) has a first beam region (28) and a second beam region (30). The second beam region (30) surrounds the first beam region (28). The method comprises: providing the laser beam (14), wherein the intensity of the second beam region (30) has a value in the range of 1% to 7%, in particular 3% to 5%, of the intensity of the first beam region (28); and cutting the workpiece (12) using the laser beam (14) by guiding the laser beam (14) over the workpiece (12).
