Description

Background:

[0001] With both fireplaces and charcoal grills, removing ash and embers is difficult and creates a mess. With charcoal grills, the remaining charcoal usually remains in the grill pan after cooking, where it can become damp in rain and is difficult to remove. In addition, the damp ash must also be removed from the drawer built into some charcoal grills. Fireplaces are usually located in living spaces, and removing the embers and sweeping out the ash creates dust and dirt. Overview of the invention

[0002] In view of these problems of conventional charcoal grills and fireplaces, the present invention solves the problem of providing an accessory for an existing charcoal grill or fireplace by means of which ash and embers can be easily disposed of.

[0003] To solve this problem, an ash and ember removal container is provided, comprising a base pan with sloped or straight side walls; a grate attached to the base pan with several grate struts; and a removable handle with a handle base and a handle handle. The handle base is removably attached to one or more grate struts of the grate. The ash is thus collected in the base pan of the ash removal container, which can be easily removed and emptied from the grill or fireplace using the removable handle, without the need for laborious cleaning of the combustion chamber or other parts of the grill.

[0004] According to some embodiments, the handle base body can have at least two milled recesses into which the one or more grid struts engage in order to fasten the handle to the grid in order to be able to attach and remove the handle particularly easily and safely.

[0005] The cutouts in the handle base body can have a first section that is placed on the grating struts when the handle is attached to the grating, and a second section that the grating struts engage when the handle is moved relative to the grating, thus securing the handle to the grating. For example, the cutouts can be designed in a "keyhole shape" to allow the handle to be easily placed on the grating struts and locked into place.

[0006] For particularly simple production, the handle base body can be formed from a sheet metal part comprising a base plate and integrally connected side walls, with the milled recesses formed in at least two of the side walls. Thus, the milled recesses can first be created on the edges of a straight sheet metal part, and then the sheet metal part can be formed into a handle base body by cutting out the respective corners and bending the side walls, to which the handle handpiece can be attached.

[0007] According to some embodiments, the grid struts may be attached to the inside of the side walls of the floor pan, for example by welding.

[0008] According to some embodiments, the base pan, the grate, and the handle base body can be made of metal, for example, sheet steel, and the handle can be made at least partially of a heat-insulating material, such as wood. Since only the base pan and the grate are located in the combustion chamber of the grill or stove when in use, and the detached handle is stored outside, the handle, which does not come into direct contact with fire, embers, or hot ash, does not need to be made of heat-resistant or fireproof materials.

[0009] In order to ensure a good supply of oxygen during operation of the charcoal grill or fireplace, ventilation openings can be provided in one or more side walls of the base tray.

[0010] According to a further aspect, a grill system is provided, comprising a charcoal grill and an ash removal container as described above, wherein the ash removal container is inserted into a combustion chamber of the charcoal grill and is dimensioned to substantially precisely fill a base area of the combustion chamber. This allows for easy removal of embers and ash from the charcoal grill, as they are collected in the ash removal container, which can be easily removed from the combustion chamber of the charcoal grill using the handle.

[0011] According to a third aspect, a stove system is provided, comprising a stove with a combustion chamber and flue, as well as an ash removal container as described above. The ash removal container is inserted into the combustion chamber and is dimensioned to essentially precisely fill a base area of the combustion chamber. This also allows for simple and quick cleaning after use of a stove, since the ash is collected in the ash removal container, which can be easily removed from the stove and emptied using the handle.

[0012] The distance between the struts of the grate can be dimensioned so that the fuel of the stove, such as logs or briquettes, can be placed on the grate. Brief description of the drawings

[0013] The attached figures show some exemplary embodiments of the present invention. The figures serve only to explain and illustrate individual aspects of the invention. Naturally, the features shown in the figures can be modified and freely combined with one another. Fig. 1 shows an ash and ember removal container according to an embodiment of the present invention, which is lifted by its handle. Fig. 2 shows the ash and embers removal container according to Fig. 1, which is inserted into a charcoal grill. Fig. 3 shows the insertion of the ash and embers removal container according to Fig. 1 into the combustion chamber of the charcoal grill Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows a top view of the ash and ember removal container according to Fig. 1 with attached handle. Fig. 5 shows a first side view of the handle of the Fig. 1-4 shown ash and ember removal container. Fig. 6 shows a second side view of the handle of the Fig. 1-4 shown ash and ember removal container. Fig. 7 shows a bottom side of the handle of the Fig. 1-4 shown ash and ember removal container. Fig. 8 shows a top view of the base pan of the Fig. 1-4 shown ash and ember removal container. Fig. 9 shows another view of the base pan of the Fig. 1-4 shown ash and ember removal container.

[0014] As in Fig. 1, an ash and ember removal container 1 according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises a base pan 2 with sloping side walls, to which a grate 3 with grate struts 3a, 3b is attached. A removable handle 4 is attached to two of the grate struts 3b running parallel to the shorter side of the base pan 2. The handle 4 comprises a handle base body 5 and a handle handle 6. In alternative embodiments, the base pan 2 can also be designed with straight side walls, for example, to be used in a fireplace whose combustion chamber has straight side walls.

[0015] Fig. 2 shows the ash and ember removal container 1 inserted into a grill 100, such as a charcoal grill, wherein the ash and ember removal container 1 is dimensioned to precisely fill the bottom area of the combustion chamber 110 of the grill 100. Thus, any grill 100 can be retrofitted with an ash and ember removal container 1 manufactured for that model. When the grill 100 is in operation, the ash is collected in the ash and ember removal container 1, so that it neither needs to be cleaned loose from the combustion chamber 110 nor falls into an ash drawer 120 in the lower area of the grill 100, which may also be difficult to clean or cumbersome to empty. The handle 4 is removed for operation of the grill 100 so that, for example, a grill grate (not shown) can be placed on the combustion chamber 110.Since the ash and ember removal container 1 is precisely positioned in the combustion chamber 110, other accessories of the grill 100, such as side storage areas 130, can also be used without hindrance.

[0016] Fig. 3 illustrates the removal or insertion of the ash and embers removal container 1 in the Fig. 2. It can be seen that the ash and ember removal container 1 can be easily placed or removed with one hand and then closes an ash opening 140 of the combustion chamber 110, so that the generated ash does not fall through the ash opening 140 into the lower area of the grill 100 and then has to be removed through the ash drawer 120, but that all of the ash and embers can be removed at once with the ash and ember removal container 1. The ash and ember removal container 1 can then be emptied directly into a garbage can, for example, so that the grill 100 can be cleared of ash and embers in one easy movement after use, without a user having to sweep up the ash separately or remove it from hard-to-reach areas of the grill 100.

[0017] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 4, the ash and ember removal container 1 sits securely and precisely within the combustion chamber 110 of the grill 100, so that no large gaps or openings are formed through which ash or embers could fall past the ash and ember removal container 1, which would then have to be removed separately. The shape and dimensions of the base tray 2 can be adapted to the grill 100, so that a suitable ash and ember removal container 1 can also be manufactured for round or other-shaped grills.

[0018] Fig. 5 to 7 show details of the handle 4: the handle base body 5 is formed in one piece from a steel sheet, with cutouts 8 formed on the side walls of the handle base body 5, by means of which the handle 4 can be plugged onto the grid struts 3b of the grating 3 and secured thereto. In the embodiment shown, a total of four cutouts 8 are provided, allowing the handle 4 to be plugged onto two adjacent grid struts 3b.However, it is also conceivable, for example with a closer spacing of the grid struts 3b of the grid 3, to provide more than four millings 8 and to fasten the handle base body 5 to more than two grid struts 3b, or to provide fewer than four millings and then, for example, to attach the handle base body 5 to only one grid strut 3b and to support it by means of suitable projections or the like at other points on the base pan 2 or the grid 3 in order to achieve a stable fastening of the handle 4.

[0019] As particularly in Fig. As shown in Figure 7, the cutouts 8 in the illustrated embodiment have a keyhole shape, so that the handle base body 5 can be easily placed onto the grid struts 3b with one hand and secured thereto by sliding. Of course, other shapes of the cutouts 8 are also conceivable, and it is also possible to improve the attachment of the handle 4 to the grid struts 3b, for example, by means of elastic elements or a locking mechanism on the handle base body 5.

[0020] In the illustrated embodiment, the handle 5 is made of wood and is attached to the handle base 5 by means of metal struts 7. Since only the base pan 2, the grate 3, and the handle base 5 come into contact with embers or hot ash during use, it is not necessary to manufacture the handle 5 from fireproof or heat-resistant materials.

[0021] Fig. 8 and Fig.9 show the base tray 2 and the grate 3 when the handle 4 has been removed. When used in a fireplace, for example, firewood can be placed on the grate 3, while firelighters or kindling can be placed under the grate 3 in the base tray 2 to facilitate lighting the fireplace, accelerate flame ignition, and ensure sufficient airflow to the firewood.

[0022] The inclination and height of the sloping (or straight) side walls of the base pan 2 ensure, on the one hand, that the ash can be completely collected in the base pan 2 without ash trickling out when carried, and, on the other hand, the shape of the base pan 2 can be precisely adapted to the shape of the combustion chamber of a charcoal grill or fireplace stove, so that the combustion properties of the grill or fireplace stove are not significantly changed by the insertion of the ash and ember removal container 1.

[0023] To enable even better air circulation, some embodiments may also include air vents in the side walls of the base pan 2. When used in a fireplace, the base pan 2 can also be adapted to the shape and size of the respective combustion chamber, ensuring that the ash and embers are completely collected in the ash and ember removal container 1 and can thus be easily and quickly removed from the fireplace.
