Diffuse illumination systems and methods

The systems and methods disclosed herein relate to sources of diffuse illumination for providing substantially uniform illumination to a surface. The diffuse illumination arises from varying the diffusion angle of light generated by an LED system. To vary the diffusion angle, a translucent member is placed between the LED system and the surface. Light emitted from the LED system across the translucent member can subsequently can uniformly cover the surface.

Cooking system with ventilator and blower

An indoor or outdoor cooking system with integrated downdraft or elevating ventilator uses cross-flow or centrifugal blower technology. The system is controlled by an electronic or mechanical controller through a touch device, a slide, or knob. These provide precise control and an efficient way of removal of gases / fumes. A cook top incorporates the heating elements and a downdraft. The ventilator's blower assembly has a fan and a filter. The system may use sensors to detect temperature, fire, effluent, filter change requirements, fan speed, power, and voltage. The system has programmable operations and numerous set points.

Interactive control system for an HVAC system

An interactive system for controlling the operation of an HVAC system is provide that comprises a thermostat for initiating the operation of the HVAC system in either a full capacity mode of operation or at least one reduced capacity mode of operation, and a controller for an outside condenser unit having a condenser fan motor and a compressor motor, the controller being capable of operating the compressor in a full capacity mode and at least one reduced capacity mode. The system also comprises a controller for an indoor blower unit having a blower fan motor, the controller being capable of operating the blower fan motor in a full capacity mode an at least one reduced capacity mode. The system further includes a communication means for transmitting information between the outside condenser unit controller and at least the indoor blower controller, where the information relates to the operation of the indoor blower and the outdoor condenser unit. The indoor blower controller responsively controls the operation of the blower fan motor in a full capacity mode or a reduced capacity mode based on the information received from the outdoor unit controller, and the outdoor unit controller responsively controls the operation of the compressor in a full capacity mode or a reduced capacity mode based on the information received from the indoor blower controller.

Beverage container

A beverage container is disclosed for keeping liquid evenly heated. The beverage container includes a cup, a heating element, and a removable battery power source. The cup has an inner sidewall surface, an outer sidewall surface, an inner bottom surface, and an outer bottom surface. The inner sidewall surface and inner bottom surface are shaped to hold liquid. The heating element is completely enclosed between the inner sidewall surface and the outer sidewall surface. The heating element heats the inner sidewall surface which then heats the liquid. An insulating layer is included between the heating element and the outer sidewall surface to keep the outer sidewall surface cool while the inner sidewall surface is heated. The battery power source is capable of being temporarily secured to the outer bottom surface of the cup and is utilized to keep the heating element energized to a predetermined level while the battery power source is secured to the cup. When the battery power source is removed, the cup is capable of being submerged in water without damaging the cup. When the battery power source is attached, the beverage container is portable.

Apparatus and control method for a hybrid tankless water heater

ActiveUS20100195991A1Slow temperature responseMinimizing delay of responseDomestic stoves or rangesSpace heating and ventilationTemperature responseBuffer tank
An on demand tankless water heater system that is capable of quickly delivering water within a desired temperature range. The tankless water heater provides a hybrid heating method that contains a primary heating system and a secondary heating system disposed in a buffer tank that cooperate to facilitate control of output water temperature during water usage. A pressure differential switch detects low flow demand and allows the secondary heating system to provide immediate heating to the water. This secondary heating system provides a faster temperature response and fine tuning of output water temperature.

Apparatus and method for simulation of combustion effects in a fireplace

The present invention produces a combustion simulation of flames, burning logs and embers in a fuel-burning fireplace or like device. One or more light source(s), such as LEDs, are used to transmit light to and through: a flame cut-out panel or flame cut-out mask to simulate the flame effect; cut-outs in logs to simulate a burning edge of a log; elements or refractories that refract the light to simulate real burning embers. Fiber optic cables, or any other material that facilitates the transmission of light, may be used to assist in transmitting the visible light. A motor driven rotating disk that includes apertures may be used to fragment the transmission of the visible light. In addition, the light source may be controlled by a sequencing device to closely approximate the pulsing intensities of light seen in actual flames, the edges of burning logs, and ember beds.
