AI Technical Summary
Existing separation devices for paint mist particles in air streams have a limited service life due to the high forces exerted by the raw gas stream, which can cause structural instability and require complex assembly.
A pre-separation unit with foldable parts and lateral tabs that engage in recesses, providing stability and ease of assembly, which is lightweight and easy to manufacture, and can be integrated with existing separation devices to enhance their durability.
The pre-separation unit increases the service life of separation devices by stabilizing them against the forces of the raw gas stream and simplifies installation, allowing for easy replacement and maintenance.
Description
[0001] The innovation proposed here relates to the technical field of separating particles carried by an air stream (raw gas stream), in particular the separation of paint or varnish particles carried by a so-called paint mist as a raw gas stream (paint mist separation). Devices, namely separation devices, for this purpose are already known, for example in the form of the separation device described in EP 2 532 409 B and referred to there as a filter module, or in the form of the separation device described in DE 10 2014 003 608 A1 and also referred to there as a filter module, or in the form of the device described in CN 209985061 U.
[0002] From CN 209 985 061 U1, a separation device and a pre-separation unit usable together with the separation device are known. The pre-separation unit is formed as a result of a "folding and fitting" process. This results in a cubic body which is placed in front of the separation device for the purpose of separating particles without any structural connection to it.
[0003] One objective of the proposed innovation is to specify an efficient addition that can be used together with a separating device according to EP 2 532 409 B or DE 10 2014 003 608 A1 or together with a separating device according to the priority-establishing DE 20 2021 104 962.6 (filing date: 14.09.2021; title: separating device), in particular an addition that increases the so-called service life (the duration of usability) of the separating device.
[0004] A separation device, from which the proposed innovation is based, comprises an outer frame which houses one or more separation elements within it. During operation, such a separation device is subjected to a flow of raw gas laden with particles. The outer frame of the separation device accordingly has a large opening for the inlet of the raw gas flow (inlet opening) and another for the outlet of the raw gas flow (outlet opening).
[0005] The aforementioned problem is solved according to the invention by means of a device, namely a pre-separation unit designed for separating particles carried along with a raw gas stream, having the features of claim 1, wherein the pre-separation unit has at least a first and a second part - or in a special embodiment at least a first and a second surface section corresponding to the first and the second part - wherein one of the two parts has lateral tabs formed by folding over two opposite sides, wherein the other of the two parts has marginal recesses and wherein the lateral tabs engage in the marginal recesses when folded over.
[0006] The lateral tabs form an L-profile with the adjacent surface of the respective part, giving it considerable stability. By engaging in the recesses in the other part, the lateral tabs are held in the folded position. This results in a pre-separation unit that withstands the forces acting on it during the separation of particles carried by a raw gas stream, yet is lightweight and easy to manufacture. The forces acting on the pre-separation unit during particle separation include the pressure exerted on it by the oncoming raw gas stream (comparable to wind pressure) and the weight of the separated particles.
[0007] The problem mentioned at the outset is also solved according to the invention by means of a method for obtaining a pre-separation unit that can be used together with a separation device.
[0008] The pre-separation unit, like the separation device, is designed for separating particles carried along with a raw gas stream. It comprises a first and a second part, and lateral tabs are formed on one of the two parts by folding over two opposite sides. The other part has recesses at its edges, and the lateral tabs are inserted into these recesses when folded over. A further aspect of the proposed innovation is a method for obtaining a combination of a pre-separation unit, as described here and below, and a separation device. The separation device and the pre-separation unit are designed for separating particles carried along with a raw gas stream. The separation device comprises a frame for receiving at least one separation element and has two openings in the frame—an inlet opening and an outlet opening. To maintain the combination of the pre-separation unit and the separation device, the pre-separation unit is arranged in or on the frame in the area of the inlet opening by means of insertion tabs of the pre-separation unit inserted into the inlet opening.
[0009] Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of the further claims. References within the claims indicate the further development of the subject matter of the referenced claim by the features of the respective dependent claim. They are not to be understood as a waiver of the right to obtain independent, substantive protection for the features or combinations of features of a dependent claim. Furthermore, with regard to the interpretation of the claims and the description, when specifying a feature in a dependent claim in more detail, it should be assumed that no such limitation exists in the preceding claims or in a more general embodiment of the device in question. Therefore, any reference in the description to aspects of dependent claims is to be read, even without specific indication, as a description of optional features.
[0010] In a preferred embodiment of the pre-separation unit, its two parts are integrally joined, resulting in two integrally joined surface sections instead of the previously separate parts. These surface sections correspond to the parts of the two-part embodiment and are accordingly often referred to as parts (first part, second part). The use of a single-piece pre-separation unit is particularly simple because the need to combine two independent parts is eliminated.
[0011] The claims filed with the application are proposed formulations without prejudice to obtaining further protection. Since the features of the dependent claims, in particular, may constitute independent inventions with regard to the prior art on the priority date, the applicant reserves the right to make these or further combinations of features, previously disclosed only in the description and / or drawings, the subject matter of independent claims or divisional declarations. These may also include independent inventions that exhibit a design independent of the subject matter of the respective referenced claims.
[0012] To avoid unnecessary repetition, the following description stipulates that features and details described in connection with the separator or pre-separator unit also apply to and in connection with a method for obtaining a pre-separator unit usable with a separator, as well as a method for obtaining a combination of a separator and a pre-separator unit, and vice versa. Accordingly, the respective method may also be further developed by means of one or more process features relating to the function or design of one or more features of the separator or pre-separator unit, and the separator or pre-separator unit may accordingly be further developed by features resulting from the method.Consequently, features and details described in connection with the process or one of the processes naturally also apply in connection with and for the separation device or the pre-separation unit, and vice versa, so that with regard to the disclosure of the individual aspects of the proposed innovation, mutual reference is always made or can be made.
[0013] As already stated in the priority-establishing application (DE 20 2021 104 962.6), the use of a pre-separation unit as described here and below is possible as a supplement to a separation device and for use with a separation device.
[0014] When mounted externally on or at least externally upstream of a separator, the pre-separation unit is the first component to come into contact with the raw gas flow approaching the separator. The pre-separation unit thus functions as an inlet-side or upstream separation stage with respect to the separator located downstream of the raw gas flow. A portion of the particles carried in the raw gas flow is therefore separated at the pre-separation unit, increasing the service life of the separator. The two parts of the pre-separation unit, or—in a one-piece design—the single component comprising both parts as surface sections, are preferably supplied flat. This results in a very small footprint and consequently low transport costs. The manual measures for maintaining the pre-separation unit, namely bending, and for attaching the pre-separation unit to a separator are extremely simple, can be carried out even by unskilled personnel, and require very little time. Several of the pre-separation units proposed here can be used successively with the same separator by removing a pre-separation unit that has reached its capacity limit and attaching a new one to the separator.
[0015] Exemplary embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing. Corresponding objects or elements are provided with the same reference numerals in all figures.
[0016] The exemplary embodiments are not to be understood as limiting the invention. Rather, within the scope of the present disclosure, additions and modifications are entirely possible, in particular those which, for example, can be deduced by a person skilled in the art from the solution of the problem by combining or modifying individual features in conjunction with those described in the general or specific descriptive part and contained in the claims and / or the drawing, and which, through combinable features, lead to a new subject matter or to new process steps or sequences of process steps.
[0017] They show Fig. 1 a known separation device with an inlet opening and an outlet opening, Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 two parts in a flat state that can be combined to form a pre-separation unit, Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 the two parts made of Fig. 2 and Fig. 3in a combinable state, Figs. 6 to 9, one of the two parts according to Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 or Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 formed pre-separation unit, Fig. 10 a pre-separation unit according to Figs. 6 to 9 in a state attached to a separation device, Fig. 11 two parts, integrally connected to each other, which can be combined to form a pre-separation unit in a flat state, Figs. 12 to 16 one with the two parts according to Fig. 11 formed pre-separation unit, Fig. 17 a pre-separation unit according to Figs. 12 to 16 in a state attached to a separation device and Fig. 18 a pre-separation unit according to Figs. 12 to 16 in a situation that is different from the one in Fig. 17 in a different orientation attached to a separation device.
[0018] The representation in Figure 1 This is shown as an example and using the image elements of the representation in Figure 1The aforementioned EP 2 532 409 B describes a separating device 10, specifically in the form of a snapshot during its manufacture. A separating device, including the separating device 10 shown, comprises an outer frame 12 and, within the frame 12, at least one separating element 14. The frame 12 is, for example, a conventional cardboard box, such as is otherwise used for packaging and / or shipping purposes. The at least one separating element 14 is / is placed within the frame 12. The dashed lines show how and where the separating element 14 is placed within the frame 12 in the separating device 10 shown. In the illustration in Figure 1 The cardboard box (the frame 12) is still open to accommodate the separating element 14. After the separating element 14 has been inserted, the cardboard box (the frame 12) is closed, for example by gluing it shut.
[0019] In EP 2 532 409 B, the separating element 14 is a paper mesh filter web folded over several times. The specific type and number of separating elements 14 are expressly irrelevant for the innovation proposed here, and accordingly, the separating device 10 is defined as a separating device 10 designed for separating particles, in particular paint particles, carried by an airflow, with an outer, cuboid frame 12 and at least one separating element 14 placed therein.
[0020] The frame 12 of the separating device 10 serves as a housing for the at least one separating element 14 inside the frame 12 (inside the housing). The frame 12 can always be a cardboard box, as mentioned above or as in EP 2 532 409 B. Whenever the term "frame" is used, a cardboard box serving as the frame 12 is always implied, and the term "frame" includes at least the term "cardboard box" but also other possibilities for accommodating at least one separating element 14, for example, a box made of wood, metal, plastic, or the like.
[0021] The frame 12 has two large openings 20, 22, particularly in opposing side walls. During operation, the separator 10 is permeated by an airflow (raw gas flow) laden with particles, for example, paint particles. This airflow enters the frame 12 – and thus the separator 10 as a whole – through one of the openings 20, 22. This opening 20 is accordingly the inlet opening or inflow opening 20. The raw gas flow exits the frame 12 – and thus the separator 10 – through the other opening 22. This opening 22 is accordingly the outlet opening or discharge opening 22. (See illustration in...) Figure 1The reference lines each run to a boundary line of these openings 20, 22. When flowing through the separating device 10, the raw gas stream passes through the at least one separating element 14 inside the frame 12, so that particles carried along with the raw gas stream are separated there in a manner that is generally known per se.
[0022] The representations in Figure 2 and Figure 3 as well as Figure 4 and Figure 5 Figures 24 and 26 each show two pre-separation unit parts. These have a rectangular shape. In Figure 2 In Figure 3, these parts 24 and 26 are shown in a flat state. Figure 4 and Figure 5 The same parts 24, 26 are shown in a state that can be combined with each other and attached to a separation device 10.
[0023] The two parts (pre-separation unit parts) 24, 26 are preferably structured, for example, by having a plurality of holes 28 (only some are labelled) in their surface. The number, shape, and / or distribution of the holes 28 are irrelevant, and the representation in the figures is expressly only an example. If the parts 24, 26 are structured by means of a plurality of holes 28, the parts 24, 26 are perforated. In other words, if the parts 24, 26 are structured by means of a plurality of holes 28, the parts 24, 26 have a grid-like shape due to the holes 28, whereby the holes 28—as shown by way of example—can be groups of holes 28 of different sizes.
[0024] The two parts 24, 26 are connected to a pre-separation unit 30 ( Fig. 6) combinable and individually or in combination can be arranged on the frame 12 of a separator 10 and are combined to form a pre-separation unit 30 and are arranged individually or in combination on the frame 12 of a separator 10. The arrangement on the frame 12 takes place in and / or at the inlet opening 20.
[0025] To distinguish between them, the two parts (pre-separation unit parts) 24, 26 are sometimes referred to as the first part (first pre-separation unit part) 24 and the second part (second pre-separation unit part) 26.
[0026] To combine the two parts (pre-separation unit parts) 24, 26, two opposite sides of one of the two parts 24, 26 (in the exemplary embodiment, the opposite sides of the first part 24) are folded over. The folding is performed at an angle of 90° or at least substantially 90° relative to the remaining surface of the first part 24. As a result of the folding, folded lateral tabs 32, 34 (first tab 32, second tab 34) are formed on the opposite sides. In the illustration in Figure 4 The second tab 34 is partially concealed by the first part 24. These two side tabs 32, 34 are joined by marginal, slot-like recesses 36, 38 when the two parts 24, 26 are combined. Fig. 3 , Fig. 5The recesses 36 and 38 are inserted into the other part 26 (in the exemplary embodiment, the second part 26) and are inserted into it when the two parts 24 and 26 are combined. The recesses 36 and 38 are marginal recesses because they originate from one of the edges (the boundary line) of the second part 26. The recesses 36 and 38 are optionally oriented transversely to the adjacent boundary line or at least substantially transversely to this boundary line of the second part 26. The recesses 36 and 38 can also be referred to as slots. The edge with the recesses 36 and 38 is referred to as the first edge 40 for reference. The opposite edge is the second edge 42.
[0027] By inserting the side tabs 32 and 34 into the recesses 36 and 38, they are fixed in the folded-over configuration. The folded-over side tabs 32 and 34 stabilize the first part 24. Each folded-over side tab 32 and 34 forms an L-profile with the adjacent surface of the first part 24, and this provides the first part 24 with considerable stability.
[0028] To improve the durability of the combination of the two parts 24, 26, preferably an elongated slot 44 is provided in one of the two parts 24 and a marginal, leaf-like protrusion 46 is provided on the other part 26. In the exemplary embodiment, the part 24 with the lateral tabs 32, 34 (the first part 24) has the elongated slot 44, parallel to and close to the edge nearest to the slot 44. Correspondingly, the part 26 with the marginal recesses 36, 38 (the second part 26) has the leaf-like protrusion 46. The elongated slot 44 is located between the particle-deposition structuring of the part 24 and the nearest edge, i.e., between the area with the holes 28 and the edge nearest to the slot 44.
[0029] When the two parts 24, 26 are combined (when the tabs 32, 34 are inserted into the recesses 36, 38), the leaf-shaped support 46 is inserted into the elongated slot 44, and in the combined state of the two parts 24, 26, the leaf-shaped support 46 is inserted into the elongated slot 44. The leaf-shaped support 46 engages in the elongated slot 44.
[0030] In the illustrated embodiment, the leaf- or spring-like support 46 (leaf-like in the sense of a paddle blade; spring-like in the sense of a tongue-and-groove joint) is formed on the second part 26, specifically in the region of its first edge 40, by shortening the second part 26 in the region of the recesses 36, 38 (i.e., in the region of its corners) and in the direction of the recesses 36, 38. Between the shortenings in the region of the corners, a longer section remains along the first edge 40 (longer when measured along the part 26 and perpendicular to its first edge 40), and this section is referred to as the leaf-like support 46.
[0031] The representations in Figure 6, Figure 7 , Figure 8 and Figure 9 Figure 24 and Figure 26 show two combined parts. In the combined state, these enclose an angle and form a pre-separation unit 30, namely a pre-separation unit 30 that can be attached to a separation device 10.
[0032] The connection between the two parts 24 and 26 is located at the apex of the angle. There, the stop 46 engages in the slot 44. The illustrations in Figure 6 and Figure 7 The diagrams show isometric views of the pre-separation unit 30. Figure 8 and Figure 9 show the pre-separation unit 30 according to Figure 6 and Figure 7 in a front view or in a side view.
[0033] To connect the two parts 24, 26 – individually or already combined – to the frame 12 of a separation device 10, tabs designated as insertion tabs 50, 52 are provided for differentiation, namely one insertion tab 50, 52 on each of the two parts 24, 26. The insertion tabs 50, 52 are folded over against the remaining surface of the respective part 24, 26, as is done, for example, in Figure 4 and Figure 5 is recognizable.
[0034] The representation in Figure 10shows a separating device 10 and a pre-separation unit 30 attached to the separating device 10, namely a pre-separation unit 30 according to Figures 6 to 9 The pre-separation unit 30 is attached to the separation device 10 at its inlet opening 20. In the illustration in Figure 10 The side of the separator device 10 facing the airflow, with the inlet opening 20, is designated as "Front" for orientation and differentiation purposes only. This also applies to corresponding subsequent illustrations.
[0035] The following description deals with an advantageous embodiment of a pre-separation unit 30 as previously described. The special feature is that this is not based on a combination of two independent parts 24, 26. Rather, it is a single-piece element. Instead of the previously described ( Figures 2 to 9) individual parts 24, 26 now give rise to surface sections 24, 26 (first surface section 24, second surface section 26), namely surface sections 24, 26 connected to each other in one piece and by hinges. The two surface sections 24, 26 each, taken individually, essentially exhibit the characteristics of the previously described corresponding part 24, 26.
[0036] Therefore, and for the sake of readability in the following description, the integrally and articulatedly connected surface sections 24, 26 will also be referred to as parts 24, 26, since they each form a part of the pre-separation unit 30, but in this particular embodiment are integrally and articulatedly connected to one another. In other words: The first surface section 24 is the first part 24 and vice versa, and the second surface section 26 is the second part 26 and also vice versa.
[0037] The preceding description of the two-part embodiment applies accordingly to the surface sections / parts 24, 26 of the one-piece embodiment, so reference is made to it to avoid repetition. However, in the two-piece embodiment, the slot 44 and the stop 46 are provided to connect the two individual parts 24, 26. In the one-piece embodiment, a connection of the parts 24, 26 is not necessary, as it already exists due to the one-piece construction. Accordingly, in the one-piece embodiment, the surface sections / parts 24, 26 do not have such a slot 44 or such a stop 46.
[0038] The articulated connection between the two parts 24, 26 of the one-piece embodiment - the two surface sections 24, 26 - consists in the area of a fold 54 ( Fig. 12 , Fig. 16) or fold mark. There, one of the parts is folded over relative to the other part. To obtain a pre-separation unit 30, the side tabs 32, 34 are folded over as described above, and the folded tabs 32, 34 are inserted into the recesses 36, 38 provided for this purpose.
[0039] The representations in Figure 11 , Figure 12 , Figure 13, Figure 14 and Figure 15 show - according to the representations in Figure 6, Figure 7 , Figure 8 and Figure 9 - each pre-separation unit 30 with two parts 24, 26 integrally connected to each other. The pre-separation unit 30 is designed for and can be attached to a separation device 10. The illustration in Figure 11 shows - analogous to the representations in Figure 2 and Figure 3 - the two parts 24, 26 (the two surface sections 24, 26) of the pre-separation unit 30. The representation in Figure 12 shows - analogous to the representations in Figure 4 and Figure 5- parts 24, 26 with folded-over side flaps 32, 34 and also folded-over insertion flaps 50, 52. The illustrations in Figure 13 and Figure 14 show - analogous to the representations in Figure 6 and Figure 7 - Isometric views of the pre-separation unit 30. The illustrations in Figure 15 and Figure 16 The pre-separation unit 30 of the Figure 12 , 13 and 14 in a front view or in a side view.
[0040] The representation in Figure 17 shows - analogous to the representation in Figure 10 - a separating device 10 and a pre-separation unit 30 attached to the separating device 10, namely a pre-separation unit 30 according to Figure 12 up to Figure 16. The pre-separation unit 30 is attached to the separation device 10 at its inlet opening 20.
[0041] The representation in Figure 18 shows the same separation device 10 and the same pre-separation unit 30 as the illustration in Figure 17In contrast to the illustration in Figure 17, the pre-separation unit 30 is now rotated by 90° and attached to the inlet opening 20. In other words: In the illustration in Figure 17 The pre-separation unit 30 is attached to the inlet opening 20 of the separation device 10 in such a way that a horizontal orientation of the fold 54 results and is shown in the illustration in Figure 18 The pre-separation unit 30 is attached to the inlet opening 20 of the separation device 10 in such a way that the fold 54 is oriented vertically. These two attachment options also apply accordingly to the two-part embodiment of the pre-separation unit 30.
[0042] The connection of the pre-separation unit 30 - both in two-part form ( Figures 2 to 10 ) as well as in one-piece form ( Figures 11 to 18) - with the frame 12 of a respective separating device 10 is done by means of the insertion tabs 50, 52. The insertion tabs 50, 52 are / are inserted into the inlet opening 20 of the separating device 10.
[0043] The representations in Figure 10 and Figure 17 Figures 50 and 52 each show a situation in which the insertion tabs 50 and 52 are inserted into the inlet opening 20 in the region of a lower edge of the inlet opening 20 and in the region of an upper edge of the inlet opening 20, respectively. The illustration in Figure 18 shows a situation in which the insertion tabs 50, 52 are inserted into the inlet opening 20 in the area of the lateral edges of the inlet opening 20.
[0044] Preferably, the at least one separating element 14 inside the frame 12 causes the insertion tabs 50, 52 to be held on / in the frame 12. Particularly preferably, the at least one separating element 14 inside the frame 12 causes one of the insertion tabs 50, 52, in particular the insertion tab 50 on the first part 24 of the pre-separation unit 30, to be held on / in the frame 12 and there on the upper edge of the inlet opening 20, i.e. against the force of gravity.
[0045] The frame 12 preferably receives the at least one separating element 14 in a fitted recess. When such a fit is provided, the at least one separating element 14, with at least a slight initial interference and a resulting compression of the separating element 14, abuts at least the side wall of the frame 12 with the inlet opening 20 and the opposite side wall. Then, each insertion tab 50, 52, inserted into the inlet opening 20 and placed there between the inner surface of the side of the frame 12 with the inlet opening 20 and the at least one separating element 14 fitted into the frame 12, is clamped there. This clamping occurs between the inner surface of the side of the frame 12 with the inlet opening 20 on the one hand and the at least one separating element 14 fitted into the frame 12 on the other.Clamping is achieved by pressing the respective insertion tab 50, 52 against the inner side of the frame 12's side surface with the inlet opening 20, provided that at least one separating element 14, which is held in a fitted position within the frame 12, is pressed against the inner surface of the frame 12's side surface with the inlet opening 20. In this configuration, the clamped insertion tab 50, 52 is secured particularly well, at least to a degree sufficient for the use of the pre-separation unit 30 in separating particles carried along with a raw gas stream. This also applies specifically to an insertion tab 50 inserted at the upper edge of the inlet opening 20, which, in its clamped state, is also held against the force of gravity.
[0046] In addition to or as an alternative to such a clamping method, a clamping method or a method of gluing, stapling, or the like may be considered.
[0047] The insertion of the insertion tabs 50, 52 into the inlet opening 20 is carried out, for example, until their free edge abuts a designated limit (a designated stop) inside the frame 12. The insertion into the inlet opening 20 is limited to the area of the insertion tabs 50, 52. The remaining part of the pre-separation unit 30 remains outside the frame 12.
[0048] In the illustrated embodiment of the one-piece variant, the angle enclosed by the two parts 24, 26 is ≤ 90°. In the illustrated embodiment of the two-piece variant, the angle enclosed by the two parts 24, 26 can also be > 90°. In both illustrated embodiments, the angle enclosed by the two parts 24, 26 of the pre-separation unit 30 is preferably < 90°, and particularly preferably the enclosed angle lies in the range of 60° to 70°.
[0049] Attaching the pre-separation unit 30 to the frame 12 of a respective separation device 10 (and, if necessary, the prior removal of a previously used pre-separation unit 30) is done without tools or at least essentially without tools, can be easily accomplished even by unskilled personnel and can be done in a very short time.
[0050] Key aspects of the description submitted here can be summarized as follows: A pre-separation unit 30 and a separation device 10 with such a pre-separation unit 30 are described. The pre-separation unit 30 and the separation device 10 are designed for separating particles carried along with a raw gas stream. The pre-separation unit 30 increases the service life of the separation device 10. The pre-separation unit 30 comprises two separate parts 24, 26 or – in a preferred embodiment – two parts 24, 26 that are integrally and articulatedly connected to one another. The two parts 24, 26 are / are combined or combinable to form a pre-separation unit 30, and the pre-separation unit 30 is / is arranged on a frame 12 of the separation device 10 in the region of the inlet opening 20.
