[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to building security systems, and more specifically to an improved home security system including an automatic authorization functionality.

[0002] Home security systems, as well as security systems in other types of residential buildings, activate upon access through an entry point. In a typical system, once a resident has entered at the entry point, and the system is activated, the user will have a limited period to deactivate the security system by indicating to the security system that the user is authorized to access the system. Users can indicate this authorization by entering an access code, biometric key, or any manual authorization system at an access panel disposed near the entry point.

Claims

1. A method (200) for automatically authorizing an entrant in a residential security system (100) comprising: unlocking at least one entryway (20) in a residential building (10) in response to a door lock (22; 122) receiving an authorized mobile credential corresponding to a specific individual; transmitting a first notice from the door lock (22; 122) to a central security system (30; 130), wherein the notice includes at least one of an identity corresponding to the mobile credential and data indicative of an authorized entrance, wherein the central security system then automatically verifies that the user is authorized to pass through the entryway; transmitting a second notice from the central security system (30; 130) only to at least one offline security system component of a plurality of offline security system components in response to the first notice, wherein the second notice includes an indication that an authorized entrant (70; 170) has passed through the at least one entryway (20); and using the at least one offline security system component, disarming the security system (100) or transferring the security system (100) from an away mode to a home mode in response to the second notice; wherein the offline security system components are directly connected to the central security system and are not part of a broader network; and wherein the at least one offline security system component corresponds to an area of the residential building (10) in which the entrant is authorized to be.

The method of claim 1, wherein unlocking at least one entryway (20) in response to the door lock (22; 122) receiving the authorized mobile credential comprises unlocking a subset of entryways (20) in the residential building (10) and allowing a remainder of entryways (20) in the residential building (10) to remain locked.

The method of claim 1 or 2, further comprising prompting a mobile device (72; 172) owned by a user (70; 170) corresponding to the authorized mobile credential to verify that the user (70; 170) has accessed the door lock (22; 122), optionally wherein the verification is at least one of a button push, a code entry, and a biometric key.

4. The method of claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein transmitting the first notice comprises transmitting the first notice over a direct connection.

5. The method of any preceding claim, wherein transmitting the first notice comprises transmitting the first notice over a network connection.

6. The method of any preceding claim, wherein unlocking the at least one entryway (20) in the residential building (10) in response to the door lock (22; 122) receiving the authorized mobile credential occurs in response to a communication from a mobile credentialing server (180).

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the mobile credentialing server (180) is a component of a central security system (130); and / or wherein the mobile credentialing system (180) is connected to the central security system via a network.

8. The method of claim 6 or 7, further comprising transmitting a received mobile credential to the mobile credentialing server (180) in response to receiving the mobile credential at the door lock (22; 122) and prior to unlocking the at least one entryway (20).

9. The method of any preceding claim, wherein the central security system (30; 130) automatically prompts a mobile device (72; 172) to display an arm system option in response to receiving the authorized mobile credential.

10. A residential security system comprising: a central security system (30; 130); a plurality of offline security system components, each of the offline security system components being directly connected to the central security system (30; 130) and not part of a broader network; and at least one door lock (22; 122) including a mobile credentialing system; wherein the door lock is configured to unlock in response to receiving an authorized credential corresponding to a specific individual; wherein the central security system (30; 130) includes software configured to automatically authorize an entry in response to receiving a first notice from the door lock (22; 122) including at least one of an identity corresponding to the mobile credential and data indicative of an authorized entrance; wherein the software is further configured to transmit a second notice from the central security system (30; 130) only to at least one offline security system component of the plurality of offline security system components in response to the first notice; wherein the second notice includes an indication that an authorized entrant has passed through the at least one entryway; wherein each of the at least one offline security system component is configured to disarm the security system (100) or transfer the security system (100) from an away mode to a home mode in response to the second notice; and wherein the at least one offline security system component corresponds to an area of a residential building in which the entrant is authorized to be.

11. The residential security system of claim 10, wherein the plurality of offline security system components include at least one of a window sensor (52; 152) and a garage sensor (62; 162).

12. The residential security system of claim 10 or 11, wherein at least one of said security system components in said plurality of security system components is wirelessly connected to the central security system (30; 130).

13. The residential security system of claim 10, 11 or 12, wherein a mobile credentialing server (180) is included within the central security system (30; 130).

14. The residential security system of any of claims 10 to 12, wherein a mobile credentialing server (180) is connected to the central security system (30; 130) and the at least one door lock (22; 122) via a network.

The residential security system of any of claims 10 to 14, wherein the door lock (22; 122) is an offline component; optionally wherein the door lock (22; 122) includes a local wireless communication protocol and is configured to communicate with at least one mobile device (72; 172) using the local wireless communication protocol; and / or wherein the door lock (22; 122) is directly connected to at least one of the central security system (30; 130) and a mobile credentialing server (180).
