AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing heat not burn (HNB) smoking substitute devices, such as IQOS and Glo, suffer from uneven and incomplete heating of tobacco, which can lead to potential burning of tobacco regions, resulting in inconsistent vapor production and potential health risks.

Method used

The development of a heat not burn consumable with a tubular vapor generating member that is specifically designed to be heated by a heater, ensuring consistent vapor production. The consumable includes a vapour generating member with a defined channel and an active portion that is configured to be heated, promoting efficient vaporization and reducing the risk of tobacco burning.

Benefits of technology

This solution achieves consistent and efficient heating of the tobacco, reducing the risk of burning and improving the quality and consistency of the vapor produced, thereby enhancing user experience and potentially reducing health risks associated with traditional smoking.

Abstract

A heat not burn consumable (1) is provided. The consumable includes a tubular vapour generating member (7) defining a channel therethrough. At least an active portion of the vapour generating member is configured to be heated by a heater to produce vapour. The tubular vapour generating member has an inlet to the channel at a first end of the consumable, the first end of the consumable being for cooperation with a heating device. The active portion of the vapour generating member has a sidewall which has a thickness greater than 0.1 mm. This allows for rapid and consistent heating of the vapour generating member.
